Love this place! My grandmother has been taking me here since I was little. We have only experienced one day of bad/rude service verses the many days of great service.

I would give this place no stars if I could. I was just in and the lady was absolutely the rudest person I have ever spoke to. I was planning on buying four slices of cake two were going to be the same kind and two different. She wanted to try and put everything into one box, but I am allergic to what one of them includes on it so I asked her for another and she informed me I would need to pay for another box. If I'm paying 5.50 per slice and you can't give me a separate box there's a problem. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. I have been going here for over ten years and will never be back. This place needs to work on their customer service big time. I hope no one in Eugene ever goes here. Not worth it I will be taking my money elsewhere.

I love love love Metropol Bakery!!! I've been coming here since I was a kid and the level of service and the quality of food has only gotten better. Considering the amount of new restaurants and bakeries that have been springing up around the neighborhood for years, has not deterred this locally owned bakery in the slightest. Two days before Christmas my mom and I got to Metropol to pick up our order (thank god we called ahead) and there is a line out the door and down the side walk! We ordered a seeded baguette, stollen bread and cream puffs. The seeded bread is one of my all time favs. Their homemade french baguette covered in a variety of seeds is heaven! I've given this bread away as gifts for friends who live out of town and they can't get enough of it! Since I was about 6, their cream puffs have been my 'thing'. I always get their cream puffs. These sugary, chocolaty, creamy concoctions are pretty much bigger than your face and you have to share because otherwise you just look like a pig...which is me normally. My mom and I like to come here and have lunch and coffee every now and then and the ambiance is quiet and cozy. They have amazing soups and quiches, and of course the bread.

It kills me to find that (upon having to pay for my own cookies) Metropol's conventionally-sized cookies are $2.50 apiece. No. Just, no.

Metropol has got a good thing going. Everything I've tried here is delicious: the breads, pastries, cakes and other desserts, soups, salads, and sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, you name it. These folks clearly take pride in their work. The service is usually pretty friendly, considering the volume of customers they serve from a single cash register. Be prepared to stand in a long line at certain times of the day and especially on the weekends. Standing in line in a place like this isn't so bad, though. First of all, the arched ceiling and wheat-colored walls make you feel like you're inside a loaf of bread. It's very cozy. And, in addition to getting to look at the mouth-watering breads and confectionery, there is also a gallery of paintings and photographs by local artists. This is a wonderful bakery and cafe within walking distance from many other great South Eugene local businesses.
(5)Kate F.
Disappointing. I had a Bear Claw that was dry, heavy & too overly sweet. The coffee was tasteless & I think the cream had turned. I prefer Hideaway & Sweet Life.
(2)Debra D.
Amazingly good food, but definitely on the spendy side.

For all you French pastry fanatics, Metropol Bakery is a must! A charming bakery with glittering glass display cases showcasing their various goodies, a cute selection of cafe tables, and some of the nicest staff I've come across, you'll feel at home here immediately! Baked fresh daily, Metropol Bakery offers a variety of cakes, tarts, cookies, traditional French pastries, scones and muffins, a variety of breads, and more! I'm a fan of their French strawberry and blueberry tarts, lemon Mousse Cup, raspberry jam-filled and lemon poppyseed scones, and their Pain au Chocolat pastry! All complimented perfectly with one of their espresso drinks or a cup of J-Tea's green tea. I really can't complain after getting to start my mornings off like this! The sweet creams used in their mouses and tarts really bring out those fresh fruit flavors and the pastries are always gloriously flakey complete with adorable decorations. It's safe to assume that sugar rushes will ensue! It's been rather busy when I've visited this bakery so I typically take my goodies to go. However, I've never had to wait long in lines. The staff here really do work hard not only on their baked goods but also on their customer service. Certainly a great addition to Eugene, It's always a pleasure stopping by Metropol Bakery. Thank you for always curing my sugar cravings, you're much appreciated!

Best bakery outside of Vienna or Paris!

Sticky bun roll review only -- Bleck. How can you go wrong with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and walnuts? There wasn't any sticky bun glaze -- the sugar was still granulated, but somehow it was still greasy and overly buttery. Hard and stale most of the way through, even though it was supposed to have been from that day. It's a sad day when I don't feel like finishing a sticky bun :(

I have fond memories from my early days of the original fifth street location. The baguettes, the cookies, and occasionally the cream puffs were, and still are, top notch. When in the area, I've still been known to drop by this new location for their amazing cream puff. The chocolate is strong, but still plenty sweet, the cream filling is splendid and the pastry shell is just the right puffy/crisp consistency. Also the portion is sufficient to feed la Grande Armee. (However, if you bear in mind my yelp motto, you can finish it on your own.)

EDIT: Treating your longtime customers like shit because they dare to ask for a plastic bag is just not cool. I was floored that after browbeating me for being one of "those people," the counter person went off similarly on the next guy in line, who mentioned he also liked to freeze Metropol loaves in the plastic bags. On my next visit I politely inquired whether maybe they'd brought back the plastic bags, and a *different* person behind the counter gave me a bunch of shit about it! Now, the issue isn't really the bags, it's being rude to customers. That said, there is no prohibition against providing plastic bags for grocery items, and the ones they used to provide are by far the best way to freeze their bread for any length of time. I'm all for sustainability and carried my own reusable shopping bags years before they became fashionable, but there are a few applications for which plastic is practical and this is one. I still go once a year, to buy my dad a carrot cake for his birthday, because he loves their carrot cake and I'm willing to be treated like something they found on the bottom of their shoe to provide it to him. The rest of the time? Uh, no.

Metropol is owned by a rude woman who made transphobic comments and then lied under investigation to BOLI. Mindful, local shoppers, I write this because it is good to know who you're doing business with. Also, they microwave a lot of their food unnecessarily.

Decoration: GOOD Staff: FRIENDLY Bakery: YUMMY Price: ACCEPTABLE Recommend: CHOCOLATE CROISSANT CHOCOLATE CAKE OPERA COOKIES that's right, chocolate always classic and never go wrong! at night if you pass by the store you can enjoying the bread smell, sooooo good
(5)David L.
Do they really expect gimmicks like decorating chocolate-filled croissants with the Eiffel Tower to really work?!@! Because they do work! My wife stopped in here earlier this morning while we were waiting for breakfast next door because she saw the photos on Yelp for these croissants and the next thing I know she comes back with one of these and a blueberry tart as well. Blueberry tart could have been better, but it isn't blueberry season anymore. The croissant was good too, but we didn't eat it until much later in the day -- I am sure it would have tasted much better if we had eaten it when it was more fresh.

Borgia. That delectable mocha-esque beverage with a zing of orange zest is the reason I might return to Metropol. (At $3.50 for an 8 oz serving, it would be only an occasional splurge.) I ordered mine sans the standard whipped cream and it was served with a lovely cappuccino-esque design. Nice. There are other good things about Metropol too. Starting with their bread, which is very good. In particular the sourdough whole wheat, which makes great sandwiches. And if you order a sandwich at Metropol, they use good quality ingredients and the sandwich (under $8.00) is large enough to feed two. Four stars for the above. But for other elements of the bakery / café factored in, we end up with three stars and "A-OK". . Meaning we're glad we've tried it, but Metropol is not on my hubby's and my short list for destination recommendation to other visitors to Eugene nor is it a place we make it a priority to visit when we're in town. I seem to be in the minority here, given other Yelp reviews. But the bottom line is with only so many calories, dollars and time to spend during our periodic trips to Eugene, Sweet Life Patisserie remains our first choice for bakery / café and the one we recommend to others. Good people can agree to disagree. Different strokes for different folks. With only a lukewarm review rating for Metropol bakery / café (although we'll continue to seek out Metropol's great bread at other retailers), I'll mention those things that put us off here: The interior seems as if it needs a good polishing up. As example, our most recent visit was about noon, so still pretty early in the day, and everything from windows to floors to tables to pastry cases seemed to need a cleaning. Fair or not, we like bakery cafes to be well tended. Different strokes. Pastries and desserts here have been not as good as expected, although they do make a really good cherry almond Danish using a flaky, croissant style pastry. Otherwise, my experience has been tarts and cakes don't deliver in taste what they promise visually. Different strokes. The location, in the aging and not so well maintained Willamette Square strip mall and positioned between a Waffle House and SuperCuts, isn't great. We prefer bakery / café's that have a neighborhood feel for location. Different strokes. Also for location and accessibility, Metropol itself is level in and on one floor - good for them. However, the strip mall where Metropol is located seems pretty much in need of accessibility tune up. There may be accessible (aka ADA) parking in the strip mall lot but I sure didn't see it and I looked each time. So it may be there, but not easily identifiable for means to get from car to door, which I add as note for Yeeps and other Peeps who need to consider in advance wheelchair accessible parking and path of travel.

Metropol is an okay bakery. They suffer issues with inconsistency, but on the better end of their execution, they make a decent product. Prices can be a bit high compared to better bakeries in town. Oh, and their chocolate cookies are amazing (if and when they're actually cooked through).
(3)Dawn C.
Metropol is where grown-ups go for their bread. Whereas other bakeries in town offer sugary sweet treats served with a modicum of disdain, or perhaps stale pastries offered up by bored, forgetful college students, Metropol offers the real deal. Professional people prepare your quiche (washing their hands first, and then wearing gloves no less!) and the folks who handle the register, wash their hands before touching your edibles. Ah, food handling. If being clean isn't enough to get you there, how about the EXCELLENT breads? My long-time fave is the birdseed bread. That stuff will cure what ails you. I'll never forget packing a loaf of it for a week-long hike. The bread survived being stored at the bottom of my backpack in a brown paper bag for days. We brought small vials of wonderful olive oil and balsamic to drizzle on chunks of it at the end of a long day. Dreamy. But I digress. Metropol also offers a whole wheat sourdough boule that is second to none. It's so good, in fact it doesn't seem like whole wheat. All the better. In addition, their baguettes, ciabatta rolls, and the Fig Hazelnut aim to please. Breads are really the staple here, rather than sweets, but believe me-- once you have bread by someone who specializes, you'll taste the difference. Anyone who makes great bread is aware of the power of fantastic soup--right? Metropol is no exception to this rule. They've become my go-to spot for a quick lunch or an early dinner stop. Wonderful, amazing soups. and with a hunk of their bread a person is really set for the rest of the day or evening for less than $6. Top that off with a quiet space to read while you slurp, and I'm in.
(5)Julie H.
I have to agree with several of the people who have expressed that the attitude of the counter employees, I often feel as if I am imposing on them. I adore their cream puffs and they have the best cheese cake hands down. I visited the 5th Street location often for desserts and bread, but since the move, I only trek across once a year for my birthday treat to myself. I wish the employees were friendlier, then I would love to sit and enjoy this wonderful bakery more often.
(3)Teryl H.
Best seeded baguette ever! I live in Seattle and can't find anything like this. I make sure to pick one up every time I'm in Eugene.
(5)James B.
One of the poorest quality baguette I have had in a while! I use to love their bread, about twenty years ago.... Way too large(as in the size), over-yeasted, under-fermented, over-salted, seriously most grocery store bakeries have bread made this way! This was one of the most disappointing stops in my return to Eugene after not being here for over twenty years. Sad.
(1)Brennan J.
Stopped in to grab a few loafs of bread, some bakery goodies and a couple cups of coffee. Everything was quite yummy. The coffee was pretty good. The people that worked there were very nice. I would go there again and recommend it to anybody.
(4)Brad F.
French bread and desserts from the Metropol have been a Eugene staple for decades. I remember watching the baking staff work while waiting in line in the basement if the 5th Street Market years ago. I have been known to make an entire lunch out of a loaf of Metropol poppy seed French bread and some butter.

Metropol is the European style bakery/patisserie cafe where you can have coffee with friends, chat, grab an inexpensive sandwich, and pick up your daily bread. Their freshly baked breads draw from various European traditions, especially French and Italian style breads as well as croissants. If you stay for lunch you can get your sandwich made on any of these breads, your choice. You also get a piece of bread of your choice with a cup of soup. Metropol also functions as a patisserie serving pastries, scones, fruit and pudding tarts, mousses, pies, and cakes. Seeing their display case always brings a smile to my face, not only because their sweet treats are mouthwateringly delicious, but also because it reminds me of my childhood in The Netherlands. Growing up, I always looked forward to the morning 'coffee and cake' get-togethers that are the Dutch equivalent of going out to Starbucks together. Whoever was hosting would go to the bakery and get a box with a variety of pastries, slices of cake, etc so to bring home. Then when your friends came over, everyone would get to pick a piece (I inevitably fought for the 'tompouce', sort of like what you call a Napoleon in America, but with yellow custard inside, and PINK icing on top). On the days when my mother was at work but we were home from school, our housekeeper would occasionally take us to the bakery and let us pick a treat to take home. I've missed those days, but now I have Matropol bakery, and even though my mother lives far away, I now go to Metropol with my mother-in-law to split a sandwich and a treat, and chat with our fellow bakery lovers. What have I eaten here so far? I've tried two soups, which come in a huge mug even if you order just "a cup". The carrot soup wasn't great, too thick and starchy. The mushroom and sherry soup was fabulous though, I would definitely buy that again. I've also had their croissants and a chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad has a good ratio of apple to chicken, and comes on your choice of any of their delicious breads. Could use more salt/pepper though, it was kind of bland. I've also had their chocolate creme parisienne tart which comes in a little pieshell that is half dipped in chocolate (!). Heavenly! The chocolate mousse is great too (my mother in law says it's the best she's ever had). The number one reason we've been coming here though is the conversation. I know Metropol is just a bakery and can't single handedly revive the European ltierary cafes of the 19th and early 20th century, but Metropol certainly attracts a fascinating crowd. We've met several people here, like UofO professors, with whom we've had extensive discussions about politics, education, the media, law, and American history. Something about the table setup makes it so easy to meet people here and engage in conversations. I love it! We've ended up sitting here for three hours at a time talking with complete strangers. So whether you're just looking for a great bakery or a European style cafe, Metropol's "got your back". PS: Apologies to other customers for us being so loud in our debates haha.

The token vegan cookie was oh so good! My friend really enjoyed his non vegan treats too! We were both really impressed overall. The service was fast, friendly, and efficient too!
(5)Ava S.
I am a professional baker, so I don't like to eat other people's baked goods unless they can truly deliver. Of all the bakeries Eugene has to offer, Metropol is one of my favorites. Their display cases are nicely balanced between super fancy cakes, basic comfort foods like cups of mousse, pastries and artisan breads. Everything I have eaten at Metropol has been excellent, with each bite savored. I especially love the mousse and tarts, along with some of their more breakfast friendly pastries, like the Cinnamon Guy. If you don't want sweets, they also have excellent sandwiches. I wish their space was a little bigger and that they had an area where you could bus your own table. Their current set up has them bussing tables and during peak times it can get a little crazy finding a clean space to grab. That's not a big deal, though.
(5)E T.
They make cake frosting other than really thick butter cream. WHIPPED CREAM! REAL CREAM!!! I love love love love their cakes... I cannot have enough of their cakes.
(4)Carrie A.
I'd give Metropol four stars for their bread: the ciabatta, sourdough, baguettes, and croissants are all delicious. The desserts are not as good -- the chocolate cake is on the dry side, and the truffles are nothing special. I've been disappointed with their espresso drinks, too, and overall, it's overly expensive for the quality of the items offered.
(3)Michael M.
I am new to the Eugene area...I stumbled across Metropol Bakery...I am so glad I did..What a great place...I have visited the other bakeries in the 6 months I have been here. Metropol is by far the best in the entire area...Try them you will not be dissappointed...You will be missing out if you dont visit them. The employees are awesome!!!!...Thanks Michael
(5)Sharon M.
Great coffee and desserts here. I live in Portland but always find this little gem to be the best place in Portland for amazing dessert and treats. Excellent service and caring staff.
(5)Leslie W.
Twice we have been here on a Sunday evening when the cakes all taste like they've been refrigerated in the morgue. Sadly, everything has a natural life, even cake.
(1)Bill C.
Every time I have to drive to Portland, I fortify myself for the trip with a Cinnamon Guy and a cappucino. So good.
(4)Richard H.
Their chocolate is the BEST. Try anything chocolate. Apple crumb pie also a favorite must be butter and sugar topping
(5)Rose D.
The September 7th cake is off the charts! But charging for to-go boxes is ridiculous.
(4)Angi G.
Been a customer of the Metropol since maybe 1984. Love their cakes. Love their chicken salad sandwiches. Love their sept 7th cake...mostly because that is my daughter's birthday. Love the local vibe. Used to like them more when they were at 5th street market, but i assume they were ran out by the high rents like several other people I know. Wish they had a north eugene location!
(5)Bryan I.
This bakery/patisserie has been a staple in South Eugene for years, and they never disappoint when it comes to quality and service! Although everyone else has attested to their baked goods, I have to stand up for their fruit smoothies: real fruit, yogurt, and honey (no ice) makes this one of the freshest and tastiest smoothies offered in Eugene, and at only $4 for 20oz it's a full, fresh meal at a great price! I highly recommend the Mixed Berry Smoothie!!!!! :-D
(5)Tinky R.
I was given one job this Thanksgiving- find pies. i read the reviews and trusted my fellow "Yelpers"....glad I did. Simply put- best pie EVER!!!
(5)Kayla E.
I am writing this review in a somewhat flabbergasted state of mind. My fiancé and I just happened upon this bakery while waiting for some nearby "to-go" dinner order. We happened to walk in at exactly 6 pm on a Sunday, not knowing it was closing time. As I walked in I noted "wow, why do we always drive across town to Sweet life when we could come here?!" I unfortunately realized the answer to my question as we perused the cake display. Looking for a quick to go bite to eat, the woman behind the counter tells us "sorry guys, we are closed. My manger will be here shortly and we have to do some stuff..." At 6:00 pm... on the dot. I guess I know now why we don't frequent this establishment, if they weren't willing to stay open 2 entire minutes longer to sell us two pieces of cake to go. Absolutely ridiculous. Neither of us will be back if this is the welcome we receive for trying to support local business.
(1)Sophia K.
I had a delicious slice of marionberry pie here. It was perfect and delectable. I want to go back to try the other options. I also like the art scattered around the bakery. I was almost tempted to buy a piece! The only flaw of this place were the dirty tables. There are crumbs and little food leftovers on the table. The employees should really wipe down the tables. It's a health hazard and it just looks dirty. Perhaps, the management should implement a bus-it-yo-self practice because it seems to work at other restaurants. I was also off-put by the columns at the storefront. That's a little much, but I guess the baked goods speak for themselves. I'll definitely be back here because I want to try their infamous seeded baguette.
(4)Doug W.
At the advise from my daughter and fellow Yelper Michele W. This is a great bakery in a strip mall in town and conveniently located. I had a Marion berry Scone which was great along with a Mocha Malt that was also great, albeit, it scalding hot! Dummy me! Everything in the counter looked wonderful. I think we'll go back tomorrow for breakfast and skip the "free" breakfast at the hotel. Off to Cabela's!
(4)Ellie S.
I am becoming a big fan of The Metropol. The bakery items are beautiful to look at and even more fun to eat! Yesterday my daughter-in-law and I had a simply scrumptious chocolate mousse! We also split a chicken salad sandwich. Of course, the bread is fantastic! My favorite sandwich, though, is the turkey. I was not as fond of the mushroom soup. It was a little too grainy for me since they had pureed most of it. The other nice thing about the place is that the tables are close and people go in there to read, work on their computer, and meet other folks to talk to. We have met two scholarly people who come in regularly to discuss current affairs. Yesterday we were there for over 2 hours eating and talking to them! It was fun.
(4)Josh G.
I enjoy the selection they have for desserts, but I wasn't pleased with my food experience there. The food didn't stand out, and my bill was very high for what I got.
(2)Michelle S.
Occasionally, one finds a place that exceeds one's expectations. Metropol blew right past them and landed in sweet heaven. Seriously. this place is amazing. Modestly tucked into a shopping area, this bakery offers drinks, pastries, cakes, breads, mousses, and savory breakfast/lunch items. My father and I got their lemon mousse and their chocolate cheesecake, both of which were stunningly good. The mousse was light and bursting with lemon flavor, while the cheesecake was smooth and decadent. I wish I could have tried every single item there!! The ambiance was charming and had cool art on the wall. Only con was that the floor had some crumbs, but honestly you won't even notice because you will be too busy looking at your delicious treats and meal!
(5)Clare H.
First time I have been here and I will be coming back soon! The chicken soup of the day, even though I can't pronounce it or attempt to try to spell it, was delicious. A mix between minestrone and french onion. Parmesan melted into the soup, large chunks of juicy chicken, lots of vegetables, and perfect seasoning. The boyfriend ordered a ham and cheese croissant and we shared a veggie sandwich that came with everything! The croissant earned his stamp of approval which is a very hard thing to do. Thick layers of ham, melted cheddar cheese, deliciousness. I love the decor! The rounded textured ceiling made me feel like I was in a loaf of bread, not a bad place to be, and the style was elegant. A great place to study. The pastries looked like small adventures waiting to happen. I will need to try one the next time I am in the area. Until then, Metropol remains a definite fav.
(4)Winnie L.
I like this local bakery in Eugene. Very good bread, great deal on day-old bread. The Birdseed Multi-Grain is the best multi-grain I have ever had. Their Lemon Chiffon cake is my favorite dessert in town. Yes, it beats Sweet Life and Zenon! I will definitely miss this place when I relocate.
(5)Boo-Boo S.
Bird Seed Bread, Opera Cookies, Apple Crumble. Need I say more.
(5)Andrew S.
UPDATE: They're called Opera Cookies. Mmmmm Can someone help remind me what the chocolate cookie with powdered sugar on top is called? I shall rename it, in lieu of my forgetfulness: - God's Gift to Mankind Cookie - Better than Sex Cookie - It's Almost a Cake-Almost a Brownie Cookie - Thank You Jesus Cookie I swear, my fiance and I enjoyed our vacation to the Oregon Coast. My mom is from Eugene, and she reminded me just why I love this place so much. The breads are good, and make great crustinis (when you bake with butter)... but the chocolate cookie, on the top-left right as you check out....oh. good. god. Do yourself and me a favor. If you live within a 400 mile radius of Eugene, OR, drive over there and buy two of the dense, delicious chocolate cookies. Now. After you purchase it, eat one. Mmmm, right? Next, wrap the other in protective wrapping, buy yourself a plane ticket to Miami, and bring me one!
(5)Sandra W.
Since I've moved away from Eugene, this is one of the few places there that I truly miss. I love the seeded baguette, but I never remember to pack the floss to get all those poppy seeds out of my teeth afterwards. Metropol has the one and only dessert in the world that cannot be duplicated anywhere, and that is their famous September 7th cake. Chocolate sponge cake, cream filling, and an addictively-fluffy mocha icing. Oh My Peace. When I celebrate my 75th birthday, wherever I am, I plan to fly one of these luscious cakes to my retirement community, and then I'm going to hoard it like a miser. Sorry kids.
(5)Laurence T.
I ordered the breakfast croissant and fruit pastries from Metropol and it resembled ordinary baked items from any supermarket. When other yelpers use words like "amazing" or "great", than I have to wonder if I'm being too harsh. I don't think I am because I've had these forgetful baked items thousands of time in the past. The one bright spot was the attentive and friendly person taking the order.
(2)Jessica J.
MY personal favorite bakery in town since I was 7year old!!! I grew up with them~~!!! Always fresh and yummy. Love their sandwiches too!!!!
(5)David S.
I have friends and family that travel two hours out of their way simply to get a seeded baguette. Best thing ever. Gotta try it. Their deserts and other breads are incredible as well. I am at a loss for words I love this place so much. I always get a cream puff, which takes at least three people to eat (though I do my best to eat it on my own). Their smoothies are tasty and nourishing, and their sandwiches are out of this world, with all special local ingredients.
(5)Keezer K.
Always the best in town, better than sweet life even :))))
(5)Victor H.
I love it. The bread is great, and the prices are reasonable. My only complaint is that sometimes popular loaves (i.e. ciabatta) sell out by afternoon.
(5)Hillary M.
Delicious lunches and desserts worth the drive from Beaverton!
(5)Ian J.
This is a review of the baguette and nothing else. Ok, so it's better than the grocery variety, including Market of Choice, but this baguette is far too dense for my tastes. It feels like it weighs about a pound and half, and is more spongy inside than light and airy. Reminds me a little of Essential Baking in Seattle, which I also don't like. Marche Provisions makes the best baguette I've had in town, although it's not perfect.
(2)Julia R.
New to Eugene, I read about this spot on Yelp. I ordered the Parisian Chicken Salad sandwich on seeded baguette (thought I should try this bread since I'd read great things). I LOVED my sandwich! The chicken salad was all white meat (covered in some kind of yummy nuts), apples, and celery .. mixed together with mayo. It was an indulgence but well worth it. I also got my little one a plain crossiant that was lovely. I will definitely be going back with my family to try other items. The service was also very good. I went in around 11:00 a.m. on a Tuesday, so the odds were in my favor. The gals working there were patient, helpful, and nice - allowing me to sample some bread to see if it was what I wanted. Also, my sandwich was ready really quickly. While in there I noticed a couple of moms eating with several kids, so I am glad it's a child-friendly spot. On my second visit, I tried the tuna melt and did not enjoy it. It had too much cheese and the tuna was a bit too dark and fishy tasting for me. The tuna also lacked the crunchy stuff I like in tuna salad, so it was just mushy and fishy. However, the seeded baguette never disappoints. BUT I also had a chocolate croissant (for dessert!) and it was awesome! I got a blueberry muffin for my son and it was also insanely delicious. So, I plan to keep going back but I will steer clear of the tuna melt.
(5)Jevon P.
O.K. I'm not a pastry chef, but I am well versed in baking however even if I try to fool my girlfriend that i am not {she bakes me pie) I think though and probably due to to some cosmic union contract that states that everybody named Jevon must like croissants and dip them in their coffee like donuts and call that breakfast. While I've lived in Eugene for a number of years i had the misfortune of having to have inferior mornings due to my lack of French quality croissants, so flaky, so buttery a light and crispy golden lining. Then I found the Metropol and I gotta tell ya, I'd love to see them compete with some Parisian bakeries they got it perfect and they're consistent good job you guys!!!
(5)Cy K.
I love every thing they bake. Their breads are even great! Their sandwiches are excellent. Even their coffee tastes good. I prefer it to Sweet Life... yes, you read it right! Without turning this into a review of Sweet Life I will tell you why. Sweet Life has become too big, and too much. Most of their desserts feel like they lack the flavor and time that Metropol seems to have in abundance. Metropol does not have as big as selection but every single dessert in that cooler tastes wonderful! I also prefer the vibe of Metropol. The staff is pleasant. They don't act like their too hip, or too busy, to take my order. Oh and the pieces of cake and pie are much bigger. I only wish they stayed open longer... but then again maybe I don't or I would be there too often.

ugh. this place used to have the best baguette in town. then about 5 years ago they switched to some sort of automated system that measures the dough for each loaf and it all went to hell. the sweets are still killer but bread is what's hard to come by in eugene. sad story. i still miss the good ol' days of the chewy, crunchy, seeded baguette.
