Just stopped & bought a Mami's burrito with marinated pork and it was yummy! However, I need to warn you... that burrito is HUGE! I couldn't finish mine in one sitting, which is probably a good thing. So to you gluttons out there, have at it . I also bought a dozen tamales & I plan to tear into a couple of those tonight! I'll follow up with a review after.

Mexican is one cuisine you can find aplenty most places. Eugene has a few decent spots to get tacos, burritos and fajitas, but there are a few gaps in the offerings. Mami's has an opportunity to fill them, but so far it's hit and miss. Tamales are their advertised specialty, which is one item I've never seen offered in Eugene. I wanted to try the roja, cheese and jalapeno, but they were out, so I went for a plate with one chicken and one pork, along with rice and beans. Everything tasted okay, and had just a little spicy kick, but the tamales were both pretty dry. Green and red salsa is available in squeeze bottles, and both are pretty tasty. DLW tried a nacho plate, which had fresh crunchy chips and a good amount of toppings. The space is nice, with about 40 seats and a clean dining room. Although they could offer full service, they elected to make it a counter ordering and bus yourself system, less costly but also less special. They offer breakfast items including chilaquiles, and on weekends have posole and menudo. I may go back just to try those. It's not an especially great value. Our lunch totaled $16, and wasn't especially large. DLW complained about the lack of free chips, and no alcohol available. A booze-free Mexican place is just fast food as far as she's concerned. She would rather go to El Kora for a similar meal plus table service, chips and margaritas. I think they need a little work on the concept, but they're on the right track.

So I got to try the best Tamales in town! And they are probably right! I do miss this time of year and receiving homemade tamales from friends! This is pretty close! Good flavor! Went with the family and ate full dinners. Carne asada was solid! Chunks of tender marinated steak! Not the stuff that is minced up and dried out. But the asada fries with ranch....I didn't get that. In fact I forgot it was ranch thinking it was sour cream and dipped a chip in it......yuk! Lol! Taquitos were ok. Chicken Taquitos I think. I prefer beef. Rice was rice. Not bad but not super memorable. The beans were no bueno. No one in the family liked them. They had an off putting flavor. Like it needed manteca or something. But I do love their salsas in the fridge in the corner of the room. Nice heat! Better than the salsa that comes with the chips. Just order chips and douse them in the squeeze bottle stuff! If you like it spicy. Great service! They are really out to please and very friendly. I will be back!!! All in all, decent food, great service! Avoid the beans!!! Hahahaha!

Best tacos in town. Remind me of my days growing up in LA. Fresh prepared daily.. Taquitos fresh made as well not frozen.. Best I've had since LA.

Lots of patrons at the most recent incarnation of this restaurant. They seem to still be working on the flow between he register, the drive-up window, and the kitchen. Nice service at my table, even though this is a you-bus-it place. I are the Green Burrito. Guacamole seems to be lost amongst the other ingredients. The two salsas in the squeeze bottles are really good. A good location for biking to a quick lunch. I agree with another review that things could be greatly improved on the tortilla front.

The best authentic mexican torta I've had in Oregon! It's all about the bread, and they nailed it; toasted and buttered to perfection. Also tried the Mami burrito, which is kinda pricey, but well worth it in size and scrumptiousness. Can't wait to come back and try the tamales!

Mami's is a great family-owned option for fresh Mexican food in Eugene. Their burritos are massive, and their menu offers more of a variety of dishes that you wouldn't see at other Mexican restaurants. They weren't kidding about the tamales being the best in Eugene! I've had the raja tamales and the Green Burrito - both extremely filling and great vegetarian options. My SO is a big fan of tortas, and said their Fusion Torta (BBQ chicken, bacon, and all the typical torta fixin's) was one of the best he's had. They also have tacos, tostadas, sopes, nachos, chalupas, and even fries slathered in delicious toppings. Would love to try their breakfast sometime, which is served until noon. Mami's is definitely at the top of my list for good Mexican food in Eugene!

Mami's burrito is "the bomb". It has unique spices, and can be divided for two meals or to share. I am so grateful they have chosen an otherwise "industrial area" to open thier business. The service is friendly and professional.

Ate here last night after a disappointing lunch elsewhere! What an amazing food experience.I have eaten here quite a few times now and everything I have had has been a taste extravaganza! The tamales are made fresh daily by mom and they are some of the best I have had. Taste like they were made at home with mother's love. But don't get there too late. Mom only makes so many every day, so they run out because everyone loves them too. Chef Jose makes a fusion torta that is also my favorite. Just a tremendous flavor explosion. If your wanting a plate of food I also love the mole enchiladas. Another one of the delicious foods they serve. I will say if you are really hungry get one of their giant burritos! They are huge and delicious! Service is always friendly and fast. I do have one complaint... I hate when I get there and there is a long line at prime lunch and dinner times...but well worth the wait. Bon appetit!... No wait...buen apetito!!!...enjo

I think this little locally owned and operated tamale house is wonderful. First of all, I'm all about supporting local as much as I can, and second of all....that red sauce. I ordered two pork tamales to go which I wasn't sure if they'd hold up until I got home, but they did! My first bite, the masa was creamy and smooth, it wasn't grainy or too thick. The ratio of masa to meat was perfect (you know sometimes there are tamales that are all masa and an itty bitty amount of meat? lame). But that red sauce, it wasn't a red red sauce like we're all probably used to seeing and eating at Burrito Boy (which is good too). But this sauce was creamier, had a hint of a smokey aroma that came as a pleasant surprise, after it's initial roll onto the tongue. This is very much a quick service type of a set up, but with ample seating inside. As of just a few days ago, they installed a pick up window. You can call in your order and drive up, pay and pick up your order. Now don't get that mixed up with a drive through. They do not do drive through orders. When things get busy inside, they won't have time to juggle drive through orders and walk in customers. But it's still nice to know you can call your order ahead and just go pick it up. Omg, I can get fabulous tamales through a window, and never have to get out of my car!! What?! The two young people behind the counter were sweet and accommodating, and answered all of my incessant, probing questions. Told my parents about this place, and it is now on their list to come try soon! And so should you!

Tried this place last night after seeing all the good reviews! Yelp definitely didn't steer me in the wrong direction, this place was great! All together we ordered chicken taquitos, chicken tacos, carne asada taco, fusion torta, and chips and guacamole. I think my favorite items were the chicken tacos and the fusion torta. The torta... OH MY, it was amazing!!!! I do wish their guac wasn't so chunky but the flavor was good. 5 stars if they had margaritas...if they did, I would be back every single day!

Made a quick stop here last week based on the other reviews here. They were accurate! We only ordered the tamales but we got a dozen 5050 chicken and pork. Definitely the best tamales in town. Soft, made daily and a great flavor! Ill be coming back when I get a tamale craving and trying more of their menu! Great customer service as well. :)

This is a great new place! Family owned and run, very friendly folks; Mom's cooking. We've eaten here at least ten times so far and don't plan to stop! And, we're on the opposite side of town, it's well worth the drive. Been there when it was packed and when it was slow, and the service is always great. We've even taken a few friends here to eat and they love it. I've tried probably most things on the menu by now. Everything is made FRESH, and so much FLAVOR! (i've found so many other places to have bland food) The meat marinade is awesome - i love the chicken and pork. They make their own salsas, red and green (green is what i like) and guacamole. I've had the Sopes (fantastic!), Quesadilla Supreme (w/chicken/guacamole, great flavor), Tamales (i LOVE the Raja!), Enchiladas, Tacos, and probably their BEST thing is their Torta - really, awesome. ..i got photos to post -- Yep, when we want Mexican Food, THIS is the place!

Had to wait in line for 5 min to order and have now been sitting at the table for 20 min and still no food. Ordered nachos for goodness sake...it's only 1/2 full at 12:15pm. I follow mamis on Instagram and have been wanting to try for awhile... Disappointment. That's how I feel after going here. I ordered the nachos with marinated beef, meat had no flavor. Their house made hot sauce was good though. I probably won't be back since the wait was painfully long for food that was just ok and only needs to be assembled.

Check this place out. Its a bit out of the way. Ughhh w11 traffic. Lol. But this new Mexican place has bomb.com tamales. Super friendly people too. Check it out.

Im going to be honest and it's going to hurt. The tamales were dry and bland. The retried beans were really soupy and the rice greasy. I couldn't finish my dinner and I was hungry. It was that bad. My wife had the green burrito which was okay. I couldn't believe how fast my order was ready, I don't think I even got my butt all the way in the chair.

This place is awesome! It was easily the best tamale I've ever tried and the Posole was wonderful! My husband had the Mami Burrito which he said was also really good. And the red sauce, yum! Also everyone working was really friendly and helpful. My husband said this is easily his new favorite spot, we will definitely be back. There is so much more we wanted to try!

I had seen a bunch of reviews on Eugene Foodies Facebook page for a new place in Eugene called Mami's Mexican Grill, and I had some time to kill because my sons were at a school dance. They claim to have the best tamales in Eugene. It was about 7:30pm on Friday, and they were out of chicken tamales so I tried the pork, which I found to be tasty and full of good, moist flavorful meat. Of course, I usually go to these places for the nachos, being the nacho aficionado I am. I ordered the carne asada nachos. I don't recall the exact price but it was around $8. The nachos came with crispy house made chips, which were a little thicker than most, but I like that. The toppings consisted of carne asada, beans, Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream, guacamole, Pico de Gallo, and rice. Yes, rice! The rice was good, but I've always thought the chips themselves were enough of a carb overload. The portion was huge and well worth the money as I didn't eat the whole plate. The carne asada was tender and not too seasoned, but I wish there was a bit more of it on there. The guacamole was fresh made and outstanding. The people working there were very friendly and answered all of my questions. They have table service, but you bus your own table when you're done. All in all, I was pleased with my experience at Mami's, and would rate their nachos 4 stars out of 5. I'll definitely come back for the tamales, the pork was excellent!

They have amazing food! I would say their food is better than most of the Mexican restaurants in eugene, except they are cheaper! Had the Mami burrito, quesadilla with steak, and the tamale. All were fantastic! The burrito is almost big enough for two people. Overall a great experience and very nice/helpful staff. This will be my New Mexican restaurant when the cravings come back!

We gave this place a second chance hoping that the new owners had settled in. I actually went down from 3 to 1 star. it was dirty & there were flies. Most of the tables still had remains of food products & drink rings. I got a napkin & using the water dispenser I clean my own table while the counter person just stood around. Lackluster food, lacking in flavor. My husband had a very dry carnitas burrito & I had the nachos. Will not be back. The confusing menu remains the same & the odd Mexican music was way too loud. I think we'll have to move back to California for decent Mexican food.

Well the tamales are pretty tasty as well as the asada tacos. This is my second time here which better because they were out of tamales the first time I came here. I'm gonna say this place will be hit and miss for a little while because they are still very unorganised. But keep on cooking Mami's. Bring cutlery to the table with the orders and ask if we want sauce please. I'll be back to try a burrito next. But keep making more tamales...

  • Danielle K.

We love Mami's! We have been several times now, and have tried a few different menu items. The tacos are awesome, as are the sopes, and the tamales. We love the Suaredo (marinated beef) on the tacos and the sopes. We like the raja (cheese and jalapeño) tamales the best. The carne asada fries are also good, but definitely not a calorie-counting dish! Their bottled salsas are great, and the guacamole is delicious as well. The customer service has always been good. The guy that has helped us at the counter each time has been so helpful with answering questions and making suggestions! We love to recommend Mami's!

So so yummy. My husband and I go here all the time. Their Mexican food is very authentic and full of flavor. The staff is always so nice and not hesitant to toss in some more of their delicious homemade salsa.

I'm originally from Tucson so I'm hard to impress when it comes to mexican food. Therefore I set my bar pretty low. However, this place makes a decent burrito, and best of all they are a good size. I'm super curious to come back in for the tamales and the posole on the weekends. Space is clean, employees are friendly and they do take out.

This place I would recommend I have had the Torta which is Mexican Sandwich. I also would come early because they run out of ingredients fast.

While visiting from out of town, we happened upon this little restaurant and were so delighted with the food that we came back again! Love, love, love the beef chalupa's. The menu is diverse and filling. This is one of those places where you want to try out the whole menu. Gosh, I wish I lived closer -- it would be a weekly haunt for me!

    (5)
  • Don B.

Sorry folks. This place is horrible. Dirty environment, paired up with bland ingredients. Expensive!!! 12 tamales for $27? Get out of here Mami, that's horseshit and you know it. I guess the one bright side is the cow stomach lining soup on the weekends. This is one hot MAMI!!

  • Rachel R.

Eugene sorely lacks for good Mexican restaurants, and this is my new go-to. I had the Green Burrito (enormous, delicious), and my husband had the tamales. We both left super satisfied, and I echo other reviewers that the sauces and salsas are really good. Does this place need some polish? Yes. It lacks some ambience if you want to eat in, and the tortillas could definitely be more flavorful. But definitely a welcome addition to the Eugene dining scene. Give it a try: you won't be disappointed.

First the good: Mami's tamales would be excellent if the meat weren't confined to a tiny portion in the center, and they serve them every day. The decor is nicer than in most hole-in-the-wall Mexican places, with unusually comfortable upholstered chairs and cheerful colors. The large windows contribute to a slightly too cold atmosphere, but do provide an expansive view, if only of soon to be People of Walmart driving by on West 11th. Also, their salsa verde and rojo are flavorful and kept in a self-service cooler where you can help yourself to spicy goodness. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre. The cheap, obviously store-bought flour tortillas are the crappy kind that gum up and stick to your teeth and overpower the skimpy ingredients in the burritos in a yucky carb-fest nobody needs. The corn tortillas aren't great either, but the tacos would be OK if the meat went all the way to the ends (it doesn't, for want of another 10 cents' worth of cheap meat) and wasn't buried under a mound of cold hard cabbage (it is, because cabbage is cheap even though it ruins the taste and texture of the tacos). Also, the prices are high for what you get. $10.50 for a bowl of posole or $4 for a child size bean burrito are ripoffs. Go here when you're hankering for corn, because you'll get lots of it in the tamales and of course in the posole, which is pretty darn tasty. Steer clear of the lousy burritos and tacos. These are far better and often a better bargain at most other Mexican places in town, including right down the street at Super Taco.

Tried this place for the first time tonight. I was looking forward to tamales, but they were out. (They said a group came in and ordered 4 dozen and wiped them out- what can you do, it happens). Instead I ordered a taco ( al pastor at the recommendation if the counter guy.) The fiancé and I also ordered carne asada fries and a regular asada burrito to try our a few different things. The burrito didn't have a ton of meat, but the tortilla was delicious, and the meat was really tasty and it was still filling with beans, lettuce, tomato and cheese in it. The carne asada fries were more expensive than some places, but the fiancé liked them. The taco was the clear winner though- lime, cilantro, onion, well seasoned tender meat, two tortillas- perfect! All the ingredients tasted fresh, and the meat was very good. No gristle or yucky pieces like most other places we've tried seem to have. The staff was very friendly as well. We will definitely be back!

This little place was great for me. It is a new business and they are still pretty rough around the edges, but the food was good and fresh. Our service was very quick and attentive, and I will be going back.

I had written a review a few weeks ago, and went back to Mami's several times since writing it... I'm increasing my rating for Mami's because of how quickly they implemented changes and because they honestly appreciate and listen to feedback... New comments: Now Mami's serves tacos with two tortillas instead of one, and I for one think that's perfect! After trying the Adobada tacos several more times, they have become my favorite. There is some tinge of sweet spice (maybe cinnamon??) that makes the marinade crazy delicious... Also, I was able to place a phone-in order for pickup! This is a big deal for me and I am very happy this option is available now. I still enjoy eating in the restaurant as well. Way to go Mami's!

Good clean Mexican food. Everything I tried was very good. The tamales and Sopes were really tasty. They have these carne asada fries that my grandson loves.

I ordered nachos which were very good, but I don't eat red meat or pork so I asked for chicken and they were out... Surprise me that it was not even 5:30 and they didn't have any chicken. Definitely will say though that they told me they cook their meats fresh everyday so I understand but come on at 5:30 no chicken! I will give them another try though.

  • Brittany S.

I was excited to try this place because a coworker recommended it and said the tamales were amazing. I found the tamales flavorless and overly spiced. Even I could make some better than that.. The beans and rice were tasteless as well. How hard is it to make food flavorful. I'm sick to my stomach and probably will be over the toilet for the rest of the night. My boyfriend already is. Never again.

  • Amy K.

Friendly place with good fresh food! I almost always get the taco salad, which is not as good as the one as Mucho Gusto, but it's better than any taco salad on the west side of town. They have tofu as a protein option, which is key for me. I also like their tamales. Their salsa verde is great. I'm not a fan of their regular house salsa - it has an olive-like taste that I don't enjoy. The comparison to Super Taco is inevitable, since they're so close. I think Super Taco has better flavor, but it's easier for me to eat healthfully at Mami's.

  • Susan D.

Excellent tamales! I had the plate with chicken and raja (jalapeño and cheese) tamales. Great flavor and creamy smooth masa. Definitely the best tamales I've had in eugene. Also enjoyed the beans and rice and their homemade salsa. Clean restaurant and friendly staff too. I'll be back! Also excited to try their chilaquiles for breakfast some time.

FINALLY a fantastic, authentic Mexican food place here in Eugene! My parents are Mexican and Guatemalan, so I have very high standards of Hispanic food. Ever since I moved to Eugene, I've searched high and low to find authentic and delicious Hispanic food that could rival my parents. Mami's is it! Other places have been extremely disappointing. But Mami's tamales are fantastic! Remind me of my mom's! All of their other dishes I had are quite tasty as well. Clean restaurant, very friendly staff, and reasonably priced! I recommend it to anyone!

This place is great. Starving after hours of driving. Thanks Yelpers, you guys rock. Walked in and ordered tamales, quesadillas, beans, oh yea!. It was a weeknight so bummer, couldn't order menudo. They don't have beer, but maybe eventually they will. We'll be back. Their salsa is fabulous too. Attencion mis amigos: Este comida esta muy rico y muy sabroso! Gracias, Mami's...para todo!! Nos vemos, y hasta la proxima!!!

  • J B.

This place has good authentic Mexican food. They have very affordable prices, and great quality food, unlike super taco. It is nice to have a new place in the neighborhood that is consistently good. The tamales are excellent, the only downside is, they do not make enough of them, so sometimes you go in for tamales and they are out. Everything on the menu is under $15. This place has only been open a few weeks and I have already been there several times.

When my food came out it had an ingredients on it that I couldn't have and they were genuinely nice and re-made it for me. They were apologizing even though it was totally my fault. Food was great. Salsa was awesome. People were so nice. We will definitely be back.

  • Connie A.

Had the tamale combo plate! Very tasty, and will be back for more! Better than other Mex places in Eugene. Wife had a chicken burrito ~ everything in it was very tasty, and not like other burrito places! She enjoyed them very much, and wants to try the taco salad the next time. All the food sounds great, and one doesn't have to have nachos unless one wants them. I am happy about that as once food is given to eat, one sort of feels obligated to eat, even when one shouldn't. Great decor, with comfy chairs, plenty of room. Busing my own table is no big deal, as most restaurants have that.... large glasses for water, which is great as we don't drink pop~ we will definitely be back~!!!

Great authentic food. Some of the best tamales you have ever tasted. They are made fresh daily so come early as they can run out. One non-traditional items are the carne asada fries!

Great food! They seem to still be working the kinks out of being a new business, but very friendly and super authentic! We will be coming back again... And again...

I have been wanting to try this place out for a little bit now and I am sooooo glad I did. The tamales were so awesome!!!!! They were really moist and the hot sauce was perfect. I can't wait to go back. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Look, if you were to scour the planet for good Mexican food and ran out of gas in Eugene, Oregon, you'd be just fine. We went back twice in the two days we were nearby and loved it. The burritos are delightful, the tamales actually ARE the best in town (as the sign says), and the service was so down to earth and friendly, I'll be back whenever I'm in town. Excellent.

  • Jesus D.

Ive been here twice and the service is really good and the food is even better. The suadero(I believe this is the only place that makes it) tacos are good with a lot of flavor the salsas are on point!!! The nachos are great. The asada and al pastor tacos or made really good only thing I didn't like was they don't put guacamole on their tacos(like every taco place in Eugene) but other than that 5 stars 2 thumbs up!!!!

  • Abby P.

I had to knock them down a star after going in one more time. I had a chicken burrito and it was rather small compared to other Taquerias like Super Taco. It was good, but not great. I still think they make a good salsa roja.

disappointed I was really excited for this new place long wait ,terrible decor. 10 min wait in line with 2 customers ahead of us, and then they said 25 min for nachos. WHAT???? the tacos were pretty good. the overall service was blah no one smiled. ordered 6 things, they gave two taco sauces. they did not have ether prepared, they had to walk around the corner to front fridge, and pull out and put in cups. I asked for a few more, two more were given without smile I asked if they took credit cards, they did not know. they were out of sour cream, soda machine broke, and they warm tortillas on a george foeman grill. i do wish them well, and do hope they improve. they need to smile and be friendly # 1 advice.

I must admit that the funkadelic exterior put me off from the idea of coming to this establishment for many months, as I put a great deal of stock into aesthetics and design, however I set aside my petty prejudices and entered a lively, festive, and a wondrous interior. The food is cheap...... too cheap. Like $1.50 soft tacos! For a mere $4.50 I can feast like a beast! The meal was beyond my expectations and I must confess that they have done a superb job in utilizing high quality ingredients full of crunch and splendor. Another person who posted a Yelp for Mami's said the corn tortillas stuck to their teeth, and all I can say is REALLY? I did not notice this to be a problem but then again I find myself concerned with massive deforestation in the Northwest, a rapid loss of sensitive species, urban sprawl, and a surging human population that is jeopardizing our quality of life. Perhaps all of these pressing and pertinent issues prevented me from experiencing such an injustice as tortilla's sticking to my teeth ;-)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
