We read about them in a Sunset Magazine article on burritos. We ordered several things, and the flavors were fantastic. The chile relleno burrito was simply delicious. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is that the wait was outrageous. I know good food takes time, but the woman told us it would be a 25 minute wait when we paid and we got our food after about 40 minutes. You can call in your order which might be a better idea.

One of the best burritos I've ever had. I've had some of their other food as well and it all stacks up at the top of my list of best Mexican food. I would say that I agree the wait is long but if they fixed that problem they would have to pre-cook their food, which would bring down quality. Call ahead and if you want to eat there, the outdoor seating works just fine. Short of returning to some of my favorite spots all over Mexico this would be the spot to satisfy my urge for authentic Mexican food.

Best quick mexican food in town, hands down. Very vegitarian friendly. The chilequeles is amazing. Warm staff, awesome food, great prices. I can't recommend them high enough! Protip: Call ahead. They make the food to order and there can be a line. I have never had to wait for than 3 or 4 minutes after calling ahead.

Absolutely great all around. A Eugene, nay, a River Road staple.

The best tasting Mexican food in Eugene! Great price to portion ratio too! Large menu, everything is made from scratch. Try their hot sauces.

I really like the taste of Loches To go.. the price is right .. the owners are friendly and caring. However, one thing to note; sometimes my body would not feel so good after eating their food...I think it might just be a personal sensitivity to over-used oil or low quality oil..but in general I think that could just be my problem..as there are many other positive reviews.

FIRE! Everything i had here was good, reasonably priced, the lady and her husband who own it are super nice.

Moved here from Texas and this is the closest to the taco trucks we used to eat at. Tacos with just cilantro and onion, stacked on two little tortillas. Big soft tortas with real media crema on them. Great beans. And it's cheap. Have not tried the burritos, I know west coast folks are really into them but I am a taco guy. This is one of the few places in town for actual Mexican food and it makes me really happy. Yeah it takes a little while but you can call ahead.

Friendly crew, first-rate salsas (the red has a fair bit of heat, yum), good prices. The carnitas were perfect: crispy yet moist, pure flavor of pork butt with salt, pepper, and garlic. The tacos al pastor were spicy, savory, and rich, with no red grease. I will be back again and again.

We absolutely love Lonches! Their veggie burritos with avocado is the best burrito in town, hands down.

After moving here from California, i was uncertain that I would find authentic Mexican cuisine. Lonches to go has the best Mexican food in Eugene by far! My favorite dish is the chile relleno burrito. I have brought various friends to check out the food cart. Everyone loves their food.

My friend, husband and I stopped by to get some food tonight and was turned away because we went in to use the bathroom first. The owner came charging in to tell us it was for customers only. When we said we were getting food, she told us that they were closed. She was lying.........we called 20 min later to tell her how rude she was and they were open. I am sooooooooooooooooooo disappointed, as my family and I live a few blocks away and go there very often. NOT ANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE!

Yep. This was scary tasty Mexican food!

This little food cart is worth the time it takes to find! As you travel River Road, watch the east side for a bright green food cart in a small parking lot - you've found it. Family run, with very friendly staff offsets an unusual dining environment - sitting on small tables under the eaves of the strip mall. I tried the chile relleno - very fresh with lots of flavor - clearly a recently roasted pepper. The "chimichangas" are apparently a recent addition to the menu, and are also called "crispy tacos" by the family - but with carnitas filling were absolutely excellent! Fresh crema, and salsa to add some heat, and it would have been a perfect lunch in itself. Would be great to see some aquas on the menu (horchata, etc.) but this is still a great find.

I have been here four times. The first time I came, they ran out of black beans (at 11:30am) and said it would be a 45 minute wait. The next three times I went, they were closed, even though their facebook and yelp pages stated they were open during the regular business hours.

  • Christopher S.

Have only eaten here once so far. Had a bean and cheese burrito as a test. Watched them making the beans, so they were fresh. However, they were not hot, and the burrito was filled with barely warm beans and unmelted cheese. After throwing it in the oven for 15 minutes, the beans were blazing hot and the cheese was thoroughly melted, and it was a great tasting bean and cheese burrito. To be fair though, I shouldn't have to heat up my food to make it hot. I will probably try it again, but my first impression was so/so. I think they close fairly early, so your best bet is lunch or early dinner.

Oh Yelp, you got me again! I went to Lonches based on all the glowing reviews. Here's my story. So, the common denominator with all the reviews was the wait time. I was prepared so that was not a problem for me. However long it takes. I just wanted this amazing food quality that everyone's been raving about. Ordered the special--3 steak tacos for $4.50 and a steak burrito for $6.00. Took a seat in the area just in front of the truck & prepared to wait. I brought a book with me just so I wouldn't bitch too much about the time in case it came down to that. The tacos came pretty quickly, to my amazement. Meat was pretty plentiful, but dry and not very flavorful. Never had I needed to use salt on Mexican food before, but I had to on this one. Still, my friend & I ate it & was thankful it came so quickly. Then we settled in to read and wait for the burrito. 20 minutes. 30 minutes. Fine. Then at 55 minutes, I figured something was off. One burrito couldn't take this long, can it? Despite everyone saying that those amazing magical beans-from-scratch was worth the wait. I went back to the truck to ask the lady where the burrito was. She had a blank look at first then 2 seconds later went to where the cook was & all I heard was loud argument back & forth between her & the gentleman hidden from my view. This lasted a little while & she finally emerged back to tell me exasperatingly, "2 minutes, ok?" I smiled & said okay. What was one supposed to do? The burrito came, COLD (not even remotely warm) but very cold. I guess it had been sitting somewhere in that trailer for almost an hour. I was still hopeful--maybe the flavor can save it. Sadly, no. The famous "beans-from-scratch" I was so looking forward to was flavorless and pretty much everything wrapped in that cold burrito was not up to all the hype I read about. I'm so sad because I really wanted to like this place.

So I read on Yelp when people say they got sick eating at a place and I swore I would never be that person. Just so many factors with diagnosing actually how or where you may have gotten food poisoning. So on to my experience here, that I am going to tell you about. Three of my fellow coworkers and I decided that we are in the mood for tacos and looked on Yelp to find out that this place seemed to have good tacos. We all ordered the normal stuff you would get at a place like this carne asada etc. The food was decent nothing too special or anything great to write home about in general, but it all had decent flavor.. The service is what you would expect out of a small little trailer parked in a parking lot on River Road. So onto the scary stuff..... This was the only place that my coworkers and I all ate in common. I'm sure you can figure it out but we all got food poisoning and obviously that is where this review shall end . ..

Best roach coach in the area. It's probably the best Mexican food i've had in the Eugene area so far. Slightly better than Mi Tierra in terms of taste and flavor of the food. Oh, and also because I seriously think Mi Tierra is the most unsanitary establishment ever (Ex: flies buzzin' all over the restaurant...going into the salsa...OK i'll stop). Besides that, i'd probably get the carne asada tacos at Lonches. Pretty tasty and good portion size for the price; 2 bucks. Get three or four of those and it'll fill you up for lunch. Oh, and the lady that works at this food truck is super cool. Bonus points.

Meh... I read so many great reviews about this place. I am really, really disappointed. The carne asada was dry and tasteless. There was lettuce in the burrito, which is anathema. The fish tacos had little crema and also served with lettuce. The fish was basically Van DeKamps fried and served in a warmed tortilla. Arturo was grumbly when I asked for cilantro and onion for the tacos. I may try the enchiladas next time I am out there but Lonches is basically a watered down version of Mexican food. The female cashier was very kind though.

This little food cart off river road is a hidden gem.. I bet a lot of people don't know about it. I don't think I did until I had food here with my dad. Very fresh and good food made to order. Very good prices.. I LOVE the Arturos Special... yummmmmmm

This is the best Mexican food in town. I get the big burrito, spicy, with steak. The chicken and pork are shredded, and good, but not my preferred. The people running it are friendly and hard-working. Everything is made fresh, and good quality. I'd recommend calling ahead during peak hours, and trying both sauces.

I hate to post negative reviews such as this one, but I went there based on the high ratings on Yelp and was very pleased at first. The owners are extremely nice and the dish I had was quite tasty aside from the quirk described hereafter (I ordered the chili releno). The chili releno had an acidic taste, and I thought at first that they were using pickled chilies which seemed unusual. Well, that was perhaps the case, but I became sick from eating this food, and my stomach problems lasted for 3 days, with fever chills on the first night. The only other food that I had after eating there on that day was a coffee with cream and sugar, and I don't believe the cream was bad. So, this was probably an isolated incident but I believe that it is important for the owners to know. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to go back to let them know (I live in CA), and hopefully this review will only help them correct potential problems rather than ruin their business.

Being from California, I know good taco trucks when I find them. I had seen all the wonderful reviews so I tried it. Seeing this was my first visit, I got basic carne asada tacos with rice and beans. The 20 min wait didn't bother me as I thought it was cooked fresh. I was wrong. The rice was crunchy like it was leftover from 2 days before. The meat was bland and salsa had no flavor. I was looking forward to trying here and I was disappointed.

Best burrito ever! My son ordered a bean and cheese burrito and I ordered the enchiladas. Mine was very good but after I tasted his we ordered 2 more bean and cheese burritos to go. We were heading home to LA from a Portland trip and we are sorry we won't get to come back. Don't be put off by the layout. Just go there, wait as long as it takes, and enjoy.

They claim the best burrito in Eugene and it is true. Also worth trying are the Chilaquiles (best nachos EVER) and Arturo's Special with beef. Call ahead, its good food not fast food :)

I would go here every day if I could...it's not too expensive, I just think I would gain about 20 pounds a month if I did! But I would be happy! Seriously, they always have a special where you can get 2 tacos, enchiladas, or sopes with rice and beans for $5.50! Screaming deal. All of their food is fantastic. We have had the tacos (always with carnitas), enchiladas, sopes, taquitos, quesadillas (for our 3 year old son, they're loaded). The Mexican cokes in a glass bottle are delicious as well. Wish they had beer, too. Can't say enough good things about this place, really. It's kind of unfortunate that their location is a little sketchy, but I swear you can't get good Mexican food in a nice restaurant. The people who run it are great.

No frills, authentic Mexican food, not the kind of place you'd bring a date to impress though!

Great food and inexpensive. The lady that runs it is nice as hell and works her ass off. Definitely recommend as long as you are not expecting a fancy atmosphere. I would make recommendations, but honestly everything I've had is good. The torta is one of my favorites.

  • Scott E.

Best Mexican food in town. They make everything to order so it can take a bit of time. Food is very authentic and not Americanized like a lot of places in town. The tacos are made with soft corn tortillas. Everything I had so far tasted awesome. This place operates out of a food truck next to a store front where they have outdoor and indoor seating. I just get mine to go.

I am so pissed that I've waited this long to try this place. Most flavorful mexican food I've ever had in Eugene! The beans are really good, the chicken has very rich flavor, I mean even the enchilada sauce was delicious and I normally don't like enchilada sauce much at all! Go there now! Exclamation!

  • Brynne M.

Uhhh-mazing burritos! I know I should probably branch out and try something else, but the chicken Big burritos-- YUM! They also make a super tasty breakfast burrito, which, by the way, reheats beautifully... It might take longer than, say, drive thru... but soooo worth it.

Thanks to the other yelpers for helping me find this place. We just moved to Eugene from Arizona, and have been homesick only because the Mexican food here is horrible. We have been to so many places, and it's all crap (except for mi tierra which is decent). I had the taquitos with shredded beef, beans and rice plate. It was so good, the taquitos were delicious, and the beans, man the beans, this guy knows what he is doing, they were the best beans I have ever tasted, and I have eaten a lot of beans! My husband and daughter had a been burrito, better than Nana used to make! Highly recommend!

Great Tacos! Very friendly service and a no BS menu. Worth every penny!

  • Ethan A.

Lonches rocks! The prices are super cheap and the burritos are HUGE and delicious. I'm deducting a star due to somewhat sketchy location and tremendously long wait times. I have called in orders 15 minutes before I arrive and then still wait another 10 minutes. Still highly recommended though!

Best damn burrito in town. I would go there every day if they weren't so far away! I always forget to go there and they close a little early. Seriously though, great place.

as good as advertised. I had the chicken burrito. tasted like a combination of burrito boy and plaza latina. sunset magazine said Lonches has the best burritos in eugene. they may be right.

Don't let the decrepit looking trailer fool you--this place has some of the best food in town! Excellent chilequilles, burritos, tacos and TORTAS! Call ahead for to go orders.

Best Mexican food in Eugene. Not much for seating, but makes up for it with quality tacos, burritos, and more.

  • Nathaniel P.

How can there be no reviews of Lonches already?? I go there several times a week and they get plenty of business, so I know I'm not the only one that eats there. Their sign boasts "best burritos in town" and I will back up that claim. And it's not even a narrow victory. Lonches is not a restaurant; it's a permanently situated trailer, though they do have some covered outdoor seating. They have a wide selection including tacos of many different types, burritos, tortas, chilaquiles (very good), enchiladas (excellent), and Arturo's specialty, your choice of meat with grilled onions, melted cheese, pico de gallo, with tortillas. All the cooking is done by Arturo, who is a great cook and also a very nice guy. Orders are usually taken by Margarita, who is also very friendly. Arturo's son, Arturo Jr., is also known to make an appearance on occasion. A "big burrito" is $5 and it is so good. My wife is Mexican and she's used to her parents' homemade food, and after trying most of what the Eugene area has to offer, Lonches is the only place that she likes. That's because their food is fresh, flavorful, and tastes home-cooked, plain and simple. She wants to go there every day. They may be selling food out of a trailer, but their burritos and the enchilada plate beat any restaurant around. I've never ordered their carne asada, so I can't comment on it; I always get their pork, which is incredibly delicious. Take it from me. Lonches is the BEST, most authentic Mexican food in Eugene. Word of warning, though: Call ahead of time to make sure they're open. (541) 461-7920. They don't always stick to their regular hours.

So delicious and fresh! A favorite of the whole family. We have tried the soft tacos, burritos, wet burritos, and sopas, and have loved it all. There is a wait, because it isn't prepared ahead of time. Best if taken to go, because there isn't much of an eating area. Looking forward to going back.

The holy land for Mexican food in Eugene. Would have been a toss up with Mi Tierra, but as they have gotten more popular they have gotten a little more expensive (Thanks, Yelp.)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
