We have been coming to El Charro for 11 years and have always felt welcome. The food is always consistent and tasty. Our kids have grown up knowing this place as the best in town. Mario takes pride in his business and takes good care of his staff and customers. The chicken enchiladas and mole sauce are sooo good! We will be back for sure:)

I have to agree with the previous reviews. The food is mediocre, nothing to write home about by any means. But not terrible either. The service is not very good. We ordered sodas with our meals and they didn't bring them out until we were already almost done eating (we politely declined them). Our waitress only checked on us once during our meal. After we were done eating, we asked for boxes, we only got one. We then had to wait and also ask for the check (that should be a given to give with the boxes). We won't be back here.

I'm not a huge Mexican food fan so I have to base most of my review on my wife's comments. She enjoyed her food. The drinks were Great!! The service was quick and helpful. All in all, we'll probably go again.

The food was pretty good. My Margarita was good. Service was decent. However, I ordered the special, and my husband ordered something on the regular menu. We each had one drink. When our check came he told us one price (which I thought sounded high) and when the receipt came to sign, he tacked on another 6 bucks! With the tip it ended up being 40 bucks...Overall I thought it was expensive for what we got... Maybe would go back due to it being so close to our house though.

Hard to imagine how these folks stay in business...only been 4-5 times and often have been there almost by myself/family which is never a good sign. Food is average at best with most dishes having multiple flaws which is odd for this genre of food. Couple inconsistent food with oddball service...how can service be slow when there are few if any other customers in there does not make for any other than a 1 star experience.

It was alright. The food was ok. I don't think it was typical mexican food, it was lacking flavor. The salsa they served us was a bit spicy though. The service was not that good I thought. The man serving us was a bit short and I felt like he was attacking us for our orders were not big. when i ordered my plain taco for my son he sounded disgusted and still brought a taco with cheese on it that we had to send back. I won't be going back.

The food here was decent. Typical Mexican, nothing to get too excited about. But the price was very high. And come to find out, they took an extra $5.00 tip on our credit card, above and beyond what we gave them. So our Saturday lunch ended up costing $35 for two adults and a child.

I live across the street from them, and I don't eat there.. 'nuff said? Adequate mexican dishes, I guess, but over-priced for what you get. Chips were stale, salsa intolerable. Will I return? Doubtful. 1.25-1.5 stars - MAYBE

Nothing amazing, but good enough that I'm back from time to time.

I took my husband to El Charro last night as a way to celebrate his birthday. We had a savvy saver ad for the restaurant at home that said they offer free entrees on your birthday with a valid I.D. So, we figured, why not? Well, apparently lots of reasons. First, when we walked in there were no lights on. None. We briefly wondered whether they were closed but saw some movement inside. They just had the restaurant running with no lights on. Bizarre. Also, the waiter was extremely rude and kept arguing with us about the ad we saw, demanding a coupon. There was no coupon, just an ad, but I guess I should have brought that in with us anyway. We finally got that situation figured out and got our drinks. My margarita cost me $5 but tasted like something you would get out of an ICEE machine. Yuck. About 6 or 7 minutes later our food arrived. Now, I'm all for speedy service but that tells me that a microwave is used as the primary cooking device. The food looked lackluster and was really barely edible. I wasn't expecting a Michelin experience but this really tasted as though a frozen burrito was microwaved and drowned in a can of store bought enchilada sauce. When I got the bill I was shocked to see my soggy, tasteless meal was going to cost me $13. $13!!!!! I asked why it was listed for less on the menu and told that since I asked for it with chicken that it cost $2 more than the menu listed. Wha!???? All told, the cost of one entree and two drinks was $25 which would be acceptable if the food was at all palatable, but the hubby and I agreed that we would have been much better off to just go to Burrito Amigos. Seriously, save your money.

Wow! Can't believe we almost didn't eat here because of a few negative reviews. Chose this place for a quick lunch before heading to the airport. The place is impeccably clean and nicely decorated. The salsa was fresh and spicy. The server was friendly and quick. The food was very good.

The staff is friendly and food is quick. Restaurant is always clean. Quality of food is good. Have had better but have had much, much worse.

Used to be good. Now they're crappy. Over cooked everything chincey on the meat. The ice tea is basically water with a little color. Prices have raised and quality lowered. Probably be out of business soon.

I would give them 4 stars, their food is delish. But if you go in close to their posted closing time your food service will be so bad that you feel that you are not wanted. If the open sign is on and the doors are not locked, your customers should not feel rushed. Turn off the sign if you are not wanting to serve your customers.

The only Mexican food anywhere near the Bethel area. Sadly, it is not very good. We ordered takeout, the person who answered was barely understandable, and coming from Southern California I do not have trouble with accents. I walked in to get a to-go menu a few weeks ago, it took 5 minutes and two employees before we could effectively communicate about what I came in for. I have had an easier time with this process at restaurants IN Mexico. Every single person in a customer service business should speak the local language, no exceptions. We ordered the Chicken Enchilada/Tamale combo and the Carne Azada (spelling is correct) Platter. The Carne Azada comes with tortillas, but ours were missing. Fortunatly I had tortillas at home, a sign I probably should have just cooked for myself this night. The Carne Azada itself was ok, nothing special. The enchilada was bland and the mole hade that floury tongue-feel, like there is uncooked flour in it, no bueno. The Tamale was almost inedible as a savory dinner item, it was sweet tasting, overloaded with cinnamon or similar spices. A hint of that would be ok but this was more dessert than any tamale I have had. Chips/Salsa are provided. You could taste the oil on the chips. The salsa was flavorful but the consistency of water. As others have mentioned the beans and guacamole were good, but so are the store bought brands and home made, and those wouldn't cost $28 like our two incomplete meals did. I can not recommend this place.

I took my tortilla away from my burrito and it was a total of four bites. Tried to cover up how small it was with lots of enchilada sauce. Terrible service and wouldn't give us a second order of chips and salsa. I just got done eating there and I'm still hungry. So aggravated.

Food was delicious. Service was horrible. I had the shrimp burrito which was very tasty. My companion had the beef and bean burrito which was also very good. The server was either new, in over his head, or just didn't give a hoot because he was terrible. Not only did he not returned to the table to see if we wanted drink refills or dessert, he didn't even have the check for us. He asked what we ate, we told him and he totally undercharged us. He only had two other tables. I would go back but hopefully he won't be working

Restaurant was very clean, Service was weird. Our server was not exactly welcoming but he got everything right. He didnt offer to refill our chips. We waited like 10mins to get the check and eventually had to flag someone else down. The food was mediocre. The salsa tasted like it came out of a jar , doubt it was housemade. My enchiladas were soggy and almost flat from lack of chicken. Rice was dry. My chimichanga was flimsy and again cheap on chicken. Lousy portions and presentation. Probably won't go back.

The food here is mediocre at best. The prices aren't the best either. The waiters are pleasant enough though.

Bad food and horrible service!!! I should have known better when i walked in and no one else was there but my family at dinner time and its never a good sign when the chips are cold and the salsa is from a jar....By far the worst, over priced Mexican food i have every had! I couldn't even eat it! I got the two taco combo ($9.95) thinking that it would be hard to mess up such and easy meal... but i was very wrong...The beans are bland and from a can (why go to a restaurant if I'm not going to get fresh food), the rice was mushy and tasted old, my meat was fatty, cold and seasoned horribly.... The service was horrendous, it took forever for someone to take our order, then my family never received refiles on our drinks since the servers seems to not remember or care that we were there, Then when our waiter finally came to our table and I complained about bother service and food i got treated like i was crazy! Don't waste your money go somewhere that's eatable!

If I could give 0 stars I would. Plastic rice out of a freezer, beans from a can, disgusting cheese. I swear its all microwaved! DON'T DO IT!

This place is conveniently located in West Eugene in a smaller strip mall and we've been there more than once. The salsa, chips and guacamole are VERY good, spicy and flavorful. My enchilada and beans were just okay, but the Spanish rice was tasty. We took had a snarky waiter who had attitude but the woman working there, (possibly the manager) who came by to ask how our food was tasting was very kind. She spoke lovely English and was welcoming. This place is definitely not the best in town, but for the price and location we'll probably return. The snarky man better have had an attitude adjustment the next visit- or I won't be back again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
