I hadn't been inside this restaurant in at least 7-8 years. A friend asked me to join her for breakfast and I suggested SSU, as I knew Broken Yolk would be crazy busy. The fact that we have to order at the front counter, off of a detailed menu, was weird. We asked if we could take our menus to a table to look them over. I had the omelette with mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and bacon. My friend had just the simple 2 eggs, toast, and potatoes. My omelette was pretty, but cold. The roasted peppers inside were the kind from a jar and were not warm (probably out of the fridge.) My friend's potatoes were cold, too. I guess the one thing that bothers me about this place is the fact that one is pressured, in a sense, to leave a tip. The way you pay is via electronic card reader. You are asked to choose an option for tipping and you're on the spot, as the counter gal is standing there watching. I opted for no tip, as she just stands behind the counter, doesn't take our order (we come to her) and seems to assume we owe her something. We bus our own tables, pick up after ourselves, and refill our own waters. Just an odd feel to the place, too, with people lurking about with their laptops, using the free wifi but not really doing much else. The initial opening of this place many years ago was exciting, as it was "the new joint" for breakfast. However, looking at the walls, it appears they haven't been cleaned since opening in the 90s. Dusty and covered with spider webs! Yuck! My friend couldn't take her eyes off of the mess. Because staff don't clear the tables, ours was sticky upon first sitting down. I wonder how many people ate on this table that very morning before we arrived?

Shitty quality overpriced hipster food. Fries had a restroom/toilet cleaner smell and were limpy. My BSTTA sandwich bread was most likely microwaved and the avocado in it was brown. Portion sizes for my friends' meals were tiny. My friends treated me to this meal; otherwise I would have demanded a refund.

Great restaurant and they have gluten free pancakes. The wait staff is friendly and the food is great.

I was a little concerned about trying this place... When we first walked in there were multiple signs that basically said "order at register" and "bus your own table"... Which would be okay, but the place wasn't set up for it. The girl at the register was impatient while we flipped through the menus at the register to order. Seemed weird for a place that's not "fast food", it was kinda high pressured for a sit down restaurant. I ordered coffee and she handed me an empty mug, but I didn't see where the coffee was, so I asked and she impatiently pointed around a corner. The coffee was cold, like the pot had been sitting out for hours. The good news is the food was good. Which at this point I was really surprised by, after such a cheap setup and lazy service.

An infuriating dining experience. Hour and a half wait for our food with approx. 10 other people in the restaurant. All I can say is, there's a reason why there's an hour wait outside of broken yolk across the street. 10/10 would not recommend.

1 hour wait for breakfast. Don't go here unless you have a couple hours to spare. Not even that crowded on a Sunday morning at 9 am and it took an hour for food

Had breakfast in Sept. 2014. Went for "vegan selections" mentioned on website. Paid $28 for 2 orders vegan pancakes (the only vegan selection) and 1 side of homefries (no drinks just water). Pancakes were painfully overworked and overcooked, almost leathery. Homefries were dry and flavorless. Lots of vegan milk was available but no nondairy chocolate!? so no hot chocolate for us. Can't understand a place that has a rarity like hemp milk (which is terrible btw) but no dark chocolate product without milk. Fricking hershey's syrup is nondairy for crying out loud! The food was like eating a grade school home economics project. Sorry we went in.

Stopped in to check this place out. Had the Po 'boy breakfast sandy and it was great. The prices are just a shade high but cool atmosphere and very nice staff. I'd come back again to keep checking out is very interesting menu and options.

Worst place ever!!! Waited over an hour for our food. My order was incorrect and didn't feel like telling them would make a difference as I did not want to wait another hour for them to correct it. One of my friends found what appeared to be a pubic hair in her breakfast burrito. And my other friend's huevos rancheros was over cooked and also incorrect. Will not be coming back here

  • Tara F.

Worst experience I've ever had. Took over an hour for our food, they brought the wrong food, we found hair in the food and the food itself was terrible. We won't be coming back.

Waitress was super nice. Coffee is pretty solid. Definitely some high quality product. Refills are a suggested $.50 which seems reasonable but free refills are the best. We ordered and after about 20 mins the waitress apologized for the long wait and brought us free coffee cake. That alone puts this above the rest. Bummer part though. We arrived a little before noon on a Saturday and they were OUT of eggs Benedict. That's my favorite thing so minus points for that. I ended up getting the bananas foster French toast which I would eat again. The two people I was with ordered the huevos rancheros and weren't impressed. I wound stay away from that.

We are stuck in a snow storm in Corvallis. Needing breakfast, we ate three days in a row in this joint. Today and yesterday, my food came out lukewarm to cold and we were a party of 3 with only 2 other customers already there. The wait was so long, we wondered if perhaps they were laying the eggs before cooking them. We think the product is good but they must improve their timeliness of delivery and get the food to the table while it is hot, Our son, who is a local here, says that they have always been slow at preparation. The hot food seems to be a current problem.

I ordered the tofu scramble with extra soysage ($9.50+$2 for soysage) and the soysage occupied 1/2 the plate. The rest was mostly potatoes with 2 miniature broccoli florets and 3-4 bits of tofu. A picture speaks a thousand words but I can't upload it here unfortunately. The staff was friendly and offered a refund for what had to be the least amount of --super dry-- food for the money of any restaurant I've ever been to. When I complained, even the staff agreed that the dish was embarrassing in its quantity and quality and they blamed the owner for setting the menu. Some dishes seemed much better than mine. One in our party had a good omelette. However, someone else had pancakes (stack of 3) but 2 of them were still gooey inside. The atmosphere is nice but the food is not worth it.

40 minutes for a $12 breakfast burrito and I had to pay extra for my 2nd cup of coffee. Either be faster, or cheaper, or give me the heads up so I can leave before ordering.

Rude owners and staff.... seriously nothing sunny about this place other than they have quite a few windows... don't waste your time and money. PRICY TOO

I've had better breakfast at other cafes, but I do like that they offer a lot of local foods on their menu. They have a nice communal table that looks comfy if you are looking for a place to study. Didn't try any of the coffees so I can't comment on that. I had the bailey's french toast and it was just a-ok. It came with a maple butter which was sweetness overkill, that was definitely not needed. I tried their breakfast sandwich once before as well and was un-impressed Edit: I just realized i've had the bailey's french toast twice. The first time it was delicious, the second time was nothing memorable.. Sooo maybe food is inconsistent as well..

We came in here hoping to grab a quick breakfast before a meeting an hour and a half later. We ordered and ended up waiting an hour for our food to come (the place was pretty empty and one person in our party only ordered oatmeal). At the 45 minute mark I asked the waitress to please put the things in a to go container as I thought we wouldn't have time to eat it and she said we don't do that here but that she would ask. They don't do that here? What? We could hear the waitress going back and forth from the kitchen to talk to the chef about how they might possibly manage to put things in to go containers, which they had. Eventually they figured it out. The food arrived cold and some of the fruit I had certainly came from a can. I would think they would offer seasonal fruits at this kind of place. Really bad overall I don't see how a place can expect to stay in business if people can't expect to get food in less than an hour.

Very nice atmosphere for brunch. The coffee was alright. My food was very delicious! We ordered the Eggs, Potatoes, and Fruit and Jon's Breakfast. They were very good! The proportions are smaller than at chain breakfast places, but I was filled none the less! Very fast and friendly service. No pictures this time! I was in too much of a hurry to eat all the food! Yum. :)

I came for breakfast and was encouraged by the menu, not only by the creative choices, but for the full page statement that they use organic and local ingredients when possible. It's the height of summer, tomatoes are at their peak in this abundant agricultural valley. I thought it safe to enjoy an egg dish ( local farm eggs, hopefully ), a florentine with spinach and tomatoes. The dish came quickly, but the tomatoes had that pale salmon color along with tastelessness characteristic of commercial GMO tomatoes. There were exactly two leaves of spinach. It had me thinking the eggs were likely factory-farmed from hens that never see the light of day or touch the earth. It's wrong for restaurants to claim local, organic practices when they truly don't. It puts the ones with integrity that do care in a compromised position. Also, for the price of the dish, I would think they could actually use the great produce of the Williamette Valley. The cappuccino and coffees are good and fair-trade however. Not easy to find a good breakfast or coffee place in Corvallis, generally.

We thought we would try a new place for brunch in Corvallis. First-off it's extremely loud in the open seating area, probably due to the concrete floors. It had a hipster vibe and many options on the menu. All items are overpriced, it has super slow service (approximately 30 minutes to get our food after ordering), water was not refilled by our server (if they can be titled that), coffee is self-serve (huh?), and coffee refills cost extra. The one redeeming quality was the food quality. The Huevos Rancheros were flavorful and filling. With other much better brunch options, we'll skip Sunnyside Up next time. If it wasn't for the good food, I'd rate it a 1 star.

I wish I liked this restaurant more. It looked like the kind of breakfast joint I would like -- local food, self-serve coffee, etc. Unfortunately, the main focus of the restaurant (i.e. the food) was underwhelming. I had the breakfast sandwich and it was just OK. I've certainly had better, but I suppose I could have had worse. The food didn't "wow" me. That being said, the coffee was quite good. I admit that I will have to give this place another shot and try something else for breakfast (maybe the french toast).

The food was YUMMY, food was S L O o o o w ! All three of us in our group found our breakfasts well prepared, fresh and delicious. Maybe it was because we were so hungry after waiting over an hour after placing our orders until it was served. Yes, we waited half an hour to get the table, and we felt well informed about that part of the wait. The backlog in the kitchen was a surprise. Arrived at 9:10, seated at 9:45, served at 11. Yes, it was Dads Weekend, but the game was a Friday night game, so the usual football game weekend crowd was diminished. The table next to us got up and left before their order was delivered to their table, as the diabetic in their group couldn't handle the wait. The servers are getting ripped off: Even if every customer tipped well despite the slow kitchen, the waitress should have had three parties rotate through that table in the time we were there. Three times more customers to delight = three times the tips. The kitchen's slowness is killing these otherwise eager servers.

This food is amazing and so affordable. Service is super friendly. I don't mind ordering at the counter or clearing my own table. I had the nutty Veg Sandwich, the humus was excellent and the Side salad with Balsamic dressing was sublime. My husband had a salad wrap, baked french fries, and a cup of zucchini carrot soup, and it was delish. Both the breakfast and the lunch menu had several things we can't wait try on future visits. This place really gets the vegetarian lifestyle and we were impressed by their commitment to sustainability and having fresh, local, and healthy cuisine. Decor was cute, modern, cheerful, and very appropriate. We enjoyed some of their house baked cookies and bread, and saw several people coming in for coffee drinks. The server was extremely pleasant to everyone, and well informed of the Corvallis vegan scene. We went back today for our second visit, and everything was as good as the first. I tried the Humus wrap and my hubby had the huevos rancheros... I can't wait to go back again! My hubby had a decaf soy latte and it was delish. These people really did it right! Our food came out fast, and the servers were very friendly. If this place was in Portland, I'd be here every week! See you on our next trip to the coast, and back!

I really want to give this place 5 stars but I've had too many inconsistent experiences. The food is ok. I ordered pancakes once and they were kinda burnt, I sent them back and man oh man it took forever to get my food back. They have decent decor. I love the colors and vibe of the place but if I ever come here again it's solely to get a coffee, nothing more.

Waitress was friendly and quick to meet us. She explained that she would provide coffee cups but we were to get our own then went on to say that since they were not busy she would get it for us. Nice. Wife had Baileys French Toast which was very good. They maple butter was much better than a fake maple syrup. I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict which was just average. I improved it greatly with the addition of the Dragons Breath sauce. Coffee was very good. Although I did not have any of fancy coffees, the cappuccino delivered next looked very good and professionally made. Food prices a little high for a college town which is the primary reason I didn't give it a four rating

The food was very good. We had breakfast and we were happy that they had gluten free toast. Unfortunately, it is far too expensive for breakfast.

Hippie breakfast place. The lady at the counter didn't know what a Denver Omelet was, and they certainly didn't have one on the menu. If you're looking for a traditional AMERICAN breakfast diner, this is NOT the place for you. If hippie is your style, the food here is decent. 3/5 is my attempt at objectivity, for my personal tastes, this place is 1.5/5.

A dreadful experience on many levels. This place seems engineered to emphasize atmosphere over service; it looks great, but you can wait a long time just to order food/coffee, and even longer to have it served. You can step up to the counter to order a drink, and be the only person there, and there will be two or more people fussing behind the counter and you can expect to be ignored for five minutes or more while you wait for someone to attend to you. It doesn't take much skill to at least acknowledge the presence of a customer, and yet somehow these folks don't get that! The staff generally appears to be poorly trained in serving the public. With friends in tow, I made several attempts at brunch here, and after being served a hummus sandwich with no hummus in it, and a pot of rancid (yes, it had actually gone rancid) "maple syrup" for the chewy, grotesque pancakes, I gave up and never went back. This is the worst dining experience I have ever had in Corvallis. The ineptitude of the staff is intolerable. If you want to take someone out for a meal and impress them, this is NOT the place to go.

This is probably a 2.5 star review. We came over here after the Broken Yolk told us they had a 45 minute wait. We needed brunch bad so we decided to try this place. First and foremost, the food was very good. The homemade biscuits and gravy and omelette were very much enjoyed. If you can get past some of the issues I mention, be prepared for a good meal. I don't think this place is for everyone. It had a Portland hipster vibe to it that I was just not comfortable with. I like to consider myself "green" and appreciate their commitment to recycling, but the fact that we had to get our own water and fill our own coffee left me irked. Nobody was in a hurry and there appeared to be only 2 waitresses doing any work in the entire restaurant. Unshockingly, our food took almost an hour and, with two young kids in tow, this felt like days (they did have a play area however, which was nice). Our waitress never once stopped by over the time we were waiting to check in us (which I guess she wouldn't have a reason to since we had to do everything ourselves). I found it hard to figure out what I would be tipping our waitress for... Like I said before, the food was the redeeming quality. Our waitress was pleasant to us when taking the order and delivering food for what its worth, although I don't feel like she smiled at all the whole time. I am pretty sure we wouldn't return oven our experience. However if you have plenty of time and are into this type of vibe, you will probably enjoy their food. *Note: we were witness to some terrible (lack of) parenting near us, which also caused us some headaches and made the long wait worse. However, I did not mark off any stars due to this. Seriously people, have a clue as to how to control you kids.*

Its been so long since I've written a review!! This place was okay. I don't think I would ever come back though. I got pancakes and they didn't have sugar free syrup. The cashier thought I was talking about the flavored syrups they put in their coffee. Pssssh. Its so rare I encounter a breakfast place without sugar free syrup. My friend got some breakfast burrito thing which didn't look that good. The portions are kind of small but the atmosphere is nice. Its decorated with a bunch of suns and the whole place looked bright and sunny. Haha. I would avoid this place though and go somewhere else for breakfast!

We came here for breakfast on a sunday. The ordering process was a bit awkward. We tried to order food at the counter, but were told that we could order the muffin and juice that we wanted, but that real food was table service that day. Thats fine we'll just grab a table. A half hour later we got our order taken and 45 minutes after that our food arrived. If you want to do table service hire more than one waitress and have more than one cook. It was a sunday so they were busy, but then again It Was A Sunday. They happen weekly and you can plan for them. After eating (the muffin was good and the side of bacon was crispy, but the burrito was par at best) we had to clear our own table (is that table service?) and pay at the counter because our bill didn't come and we were tired of waiting. Not a good experience and it took forever to get a simple breakfast

Stopped in for a quick coffee while travelling through. We specifically searched for a cafe with organic coffee and Sunnyside Up seemed like an interesting place to try. I can't think of any complaints! Our order was taken by very friendly staff, was delivered promptly and tasted delicious. The menu states that most ingredients are organic, locally sourced and minimally processed. We had a simple order of buttermilk pancakes and two lattes. There is a little nook for kids to play which kept our toddler entertained as we enjoyed our drinks. I look forward to stopping in again soon.

I was the only customer in the building, I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and avocado, it somehow took them 15 minutes to make it, and when I left the cafe and looked at my bagel, they managed to fuck it up! Humus and avacado... What a bunch of dumbasses. Cant even fuck up my bagel in a timely manner. This place was so bad it motivated to start a yelp account just so I can tell the world DONT WASTE YOUR TIME A MONEY HERE PLEASE!

Our favorite breakfast place in Corvallis. The food is healthy and the coffee is the BEST. Order at the counter on weekdays with table service on weekends. Good for lunch as well!

  • Andy V.

I no longer live in Corvallis, but when I did, this was a daily visit for me. I held business meetings at Sunnyside, brought my family on the weekends, and worked on my laptop almost every afternoon. Always great service at Sunnyside. It's clear when a café treats their customers and community with respect. The food is flavorful with my favorite leans towards huevos rancheros and pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. The ginger muffins were a great weekend snack. And, the soups rock for a hearty lunch.

I've only been here a few times for breakfast, but it's been disappointing. Their potatoes are not very good, the jam they have for toast is like a sugary syrup (I like some fruit in it!) but the eggs were ok. There are better places in town for breakfast.

    (2)
  • Lee F.

I was just in town for the weekend and I stopped in for breakfast since it was nearby. The color and decor are fun and welcoming and the staff was very friendly. I would agree with another reviewer who mentioned that the ordering process was awkward, but other than that I have no complaints. The portion size was generous and the food was prepared well. My huevos rancheros were zesty and everything was the right consistency and flavor. I really wanted to try the veg fritters/pancakes, but that will have to wait for next time. And the coffee was excellent!

Worst service. Waited 45 minutes for our food. No one paid attention to our table and they forgot our orders. Employees rolled their eyes at us. Myself and three others contemplated getting up and walking out.

Like so many things in Corvallis, this place just misses the mark. I appreciate their more ethical approach to food sourcing, but it seems like that's an excuse to price-gouge. Ethical sourcing is not a good reason for charging $10 for a basic breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast, particularly when you order at a counter and bus your own tables. The food is fine, not great, but fine. It's the high prices that really turned me off.

Great for breakfast or lunch and the perfect meeting place. Reliable wifi. Soup specials are always really good. Love the huevos rancheros.

Why some folks rated this place low is beyond me? I can't imagine that local folks don't see all the values I see to this place, especialy as a Californian! I wanted a place to get free wireless, good and decent food and a place to relax. All in a low-key, comfortable down-home setting and I got it! First, the food was really good. I had the vegie panini which was crusty and tasty with pesto. Ummm. And the side coleslaw salad with raisins was a nice surprise. All very tasty. In addition, the staff were nice, the food reasonably prompt, good music and the overall experience comfortable. For a simple local coffee/breakfast/lunch place it clearly was a 5. Hey "YELP raters" lighten up!

Food is NOT worth the wait. An hour and a half of sitting at the bar and we finally got our food. Only to find it bland and nearly inedible. If this place could get zero stars, it would. Be careful, they double charge for coffee.

A friend of mine once remarked that she refused to pay for food she can cook better herself. I don't always follow that rule (sometimes exhaustion or convenience wins) but it's the rule that springs to mind when I consider returning to Sunnyside Up. I can make cold toast and mediocre eggs at home, with less delay.

  • CeeCee P.

To be Fair to Sunnyside Up, I have to admit before I continue that I have very high standards for brunch... but here goes my review... I wouldn't call Sunnyside Up a gourmet location for breakfast or brunch. It's a low-key cafe that serves what I would consider to be home-like breakfasts. What I mean is, you can honestly make this yourself... maybe even a better version... My friend ordered the eggs, bread and potatoes and honestly. The potatoes were really bland and dry, the bread was off-tasting (sourdough perhaps? blah...), and the over-easy eggs were just that... plain over-easy eggs. Nothing special here. So I had higher hopes for my dish.. the Huevos Rancheros. It sounded flavorful... but it failed to please my taste buds. Again, the potatoes were too dry, the beans were hard, there was way, way too much cheese, the sunnyside up eggs were plain, the guacamole was bitter, the salsa was too onion-y, etc, etc, etc. Not surprisingly, I did not enjoy my brunch. It makes me wonder if there's even a place in Corvallis worth visiting for something as simple as breakfast...

Sweet find! We were on the way to the Oregon Coast and stopped for lunch in Corvallis. Never been to Corvallis before so didn't know where to eat, but discovered Sunnyside Up just walking down NW 3rd. Sunnyside Up has a college coffeehouse feel (no surprise here in the land of the OSU Beavers). What I liked is that the menu is not dogmatic. What I mean is that if you want to order meat dishes, you can. And if you want to go vegan or vegetarian, those options are available as well (which is pleasing to my spouse). Food and coffee are well-prepared. Great sandwiches! Oh, BTW you order your meal at the counter and then they bring it out to your table (except for your coffee orders, where like at Starbucks, you get it yourself, they don't bring it out).

Good service n friendly waiters, food is alright... My favorite is the bacon, egg, pancake n sasuage with coffee. Sitting outside is the best because you can enjoy the sunshine n somewhat breeze too.. dont take my word for it give it a shot yourself.

An otherwise good location absolutely ruins itself by charging a transaction fee for using credit cards. Not only is this a violation of terms by their merchant account, it's just plain dumb. If you don't want to accept credit cards, then don't. If you do, price your items accordingly. No business owner likes or wants to pay these fees, but it's a reality of doing business. It seems like maybe these credit and debit card things are starting to catch on. I have a semi-regular meeting with friends here, but routinely spend much less than I would other places because of this surcharge, I know it may sound dumb, because I'm sure that I waste much more money than this on more frivolous things, but it's the mindset that they create for me. Their large space, free WiFi, slightly above-average coffee and good coffee cake bring this review up from a one or no-star review. Edit: June 2010 -- It seems that the only thing holding my review back -- a credit card surcharge -- is now gone! This is so great to see. I'll use cash when I can, but am happy to see this go away!

Good food but small portions and overpriced for the small portions you are getting. Cool atmosphere, but I was still loving my hangover food of Martha's 22nd in Hermosa which rocked my socks off. When I'm hungover I want massive quantities of home cooked goodness to soothe my sad brain cells, and this place just couldn't deliver.

We usually go here on Sunday mornings after a Beavers game. Good food but not a lot of meat options. The huevos rancheros are good, as is the Bailey's french toast.

Simply put, the single most alarmingly foul experience we've had on a food outing: Even though I'd heard decent enough things from friends, acquaintances about Sunnyside Up, even though the majority of reviews speak highly of the comfortable atmosphere and healthy menu offerings, even though the presence of a newly renovated addition to the cafe alluded to their success as a local favorite... we were frankly put off by an increasing number of irritating elements that eventually forced us out to another cafe entirely! First off, the "homemade granola" was neither healthy nor appetizing, being made mostly of overly toasted cereal grains baked in a sheen of raw sugars, little pebbles of dried fruits and candied coconut shreds that clung between the teeth like guerrillas setting up an ambush, and swimming in a brand of rice milk that was so sweet it made my eyes water to sip it by itself. (the most expensive bowl of "granola" I've seen. 6oz for $7!) Hell, my wife's lunch of the Avocado Melt was uninspired, unspiced and untoasted to the point of having both the flavor and texture of room temperature baby food. (for $7.25 no less!) Believe it or not, if that weren't enough to set us off on the wrong foot for enjoying this venue touted as a local favorite, my wife found... wait for it... dried and crusted diarrhea covering the base and bowl of the only toilet in the entire cafe!! Its one thing if someone had a bad day and the staff had yet to take care of it before a guest had the misfortune come across it, but it entirely inexcusable for said fecal explosion to be left for however long it takes it to congeal and cake to the surfaces. Completely disgusting and one of the worst signs of negligence I've ever seen! (not to mention a blatant disregard for health codes, much less common decency) Ironically enough, it was an employee, of all people, who ended up being the last straw for us here, as she talked above the din of the room about her particular (self-important?) views & her disdain for anyone who "didn't know better". Other patrons had politely tried to make her aware of her noise level, clearing their throats, moving to a table further away from her, making eye contact to share a weighted look, but nothing could stop her from making an ass of herself and her place of employment. Frankly, our minds were all but made up by that point, and she only assisted in finalizing our decision to leave and never come back. I'm saddened to find that, during our week trip through the area, we've seen more laziness on the part of restaurateurs after a bit of success than we've experienced anywhere else. I'm sorry, Corvallis, but unless you get your act together soon, I'm afraid you'll miss the boat entirely on growing out of the college-town/backwater moniker as the rest of the region rises with the economic shift. Edit: In light of Mr. Jon G. of Sunnyside Up's response, I'll clarify my stance a bit better. 1.) I assure you that my above review is factual, astonishing as that may sound, and that I did not exaggerate in the retelling of our experience, so calling it hyperbole is inaccurate to say the least. 2.) The crusted, and therefor hours old, liquid feces painting the only toilet in the establishment is such a glaring flaw that I have no words to describe the disgust but then to avoid the subject entirely in an official response has me curious. 3.) The food (that we ordered) suffered on all counts from slapdash preparation, poor conception, and a seeming lack of interest on the part of the staff to produce anything worth such unusually high prices. Now, I say "unusually" because I feel that anyone can guess, for example, what 3oz of avocado, 2oz of cheese, 2oz of caramelized onions and two slices of sourdough cost... but if you're not even going to take the time to toast the bread of a "melt" or taste it yourself to see that the flavors mush together instantly to resemble baby food & salted paper pulp, and then charge over $7 for, essentially, a glorified grilled cheese, well, I believe the term is "shenanigans". In addendum, I apologize if I've insinuated that you, as a business owner, are solely responsible for Corvallis's seeming lack of culinary moxy. I'm sure there are other contributing factors that you are not personally in control of. ps: (10/29/09) As a matter of fact, to respond to your comment, Mr. John G of Sunnyside Up, we sat near the kids' play area. The restroom down the hall from there was the one she'd used, not the one shared by another business (with the sign about no re-entry on the door). Whether or not your staff recalls the negligence is immaterial. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you, but "good luck".

Service was very slow. French toast was soggy, and served w/ fake pancake syrup. Soy-sausage tasted like soy-sausage while being tough and chewy like a thick piece of carpet. I won't go back.

My favorite place to get breakfast in town, though I'm not as big of a fan of the lunch menu. The vegan pancakes are amazing and so is the potatoes/eggs/toast deal. Coffee is good, and you should try the chai. Big windows provide lots of light and there is always plenty of seating no matter when we go. Workers are always nice. Plus, they've got those cute little trivial pursuit card decks at the tables so you can entertain yourself while you wait for your food to be made up. High recommended.

I pretty much drink coffee for effect so I haven't had anything but the house blend here. What I really like about this location is the big space and plenty of seating. I've never seen it overcrowded. There are even some cushioned spaces with low tables where you can lay out on. Of the coffee shops in Corvallis, this spot has the best seating options. Along with the free WiFi it makes a great place to bring a notebook. #CorvSMB

When going to a new coffee/breakfast place, I like to ask the people who work there what their favorite drink is. The cashier suggested the bogia, which I had never even heard of before. It was DELICIOUS!!! My friend got the chai which she also really enjoyed, and we both got bagels. They were super fluffy and dense and yet crispy at the same time. Peanut butter was super fresh. Cute ambiance, would definitely recommend :)

This place seems confused about how they should do service. We went in yesterday and seated ourselves (I'm ok with that -- other places do it with success). But then we watched as two different servers take orders from three tables who sat down after us, so of course they got their food before us. You have to get your own water and coffee. Then as I was leaving I notice a "PLEASE BUS YOUR OWN TABLE" sign by the register. There was one set of bus tubs over by the kitchen in the hallway, and another on the far side of the restaurant. Really? Just figure out how to do better service. And also, the $4.50 for the 10 small pieces of home fries was way too much, but I didn't complain because they forgot to charge us for the coffee (an unintended benefit of self serve). They should just go full on table service and get it right.

I love their breakfast sandwich with egg, avocado and onion. Though, I agree with the other reviews that the service is a bit slow. My spouse doesn't like to go here anymore though, since Broken Yolk opened, so I sneak by on my way to work to get a breakfast sandwich from time to time.

My girlfriend and I were visiting a friend in Corvalis after attending the USC - Oregon game in Eugene the night before. Sunnyside Up was highly recommended so we thought we'd give it a try. Big mistake. The beavers had a game the night before so I'm assuming that would be the (weak) excuse for them. We waited about 15 minutes just to be sat, another 10 - 15 to be given coffee mugs, and finally after another 10 minutes we ordered. The food came after 45 minutes as we were walking out the door. Just so you don't have to go back up and count the time we waited (VERY conservatively) a little over an hour. Much to my dismay, I actually paid for our food, had it boxed up (without silver or plasticware), and took it to our car to eat. My girlfriend had a breakfast burrito, I had the eggs, potatoes, and toast. Definitely not worth over an hours wait and over $16. The toast wasn't very toasted, ALL the roasted potatoes were actually pan fried and way too dry. The two decent items out of both dishes were the salsa and sour cream. Our coffee was decent as well while we waited. We won't be going back and I wish I could get my money back for a Burger King or McDonald's breakfast. At least they have quick service and the food tastes good.

I've tried to like Sunnyside Up, really I have, but after a half-dozen visits over the past two years I have given up. On all visits there have been a mix of vegans, vegetarians & carnivore's in our party & the food has continued to prove itself to be too spicy, over-priced & dry every time. The service was always slow & the staff seemed as if they were put out by our patronage. On more than one visit I found pieces of meat in my vegetarian entree. The server told us they must have been cross-contaminated during cooking since the meat & vegetarian items are all cooked on the same surface. Once I will forgive, twice and I will not be back. The atmosphere is really nice, very laid-back & family friendly. But this isn't enough to draw me back in after so many negative experiences.

Generally good breakfast and always great coffee/chai. Have only eaten lunch there a few times, but I haven't always had the best meals there. What I do love about the place is the kids play area which helps us enjoy our chai/coffee without chasing after the toddler all around the restaurant. That and the good breakfast options give it a 4 star in my book! #corvsmb

Had a great get-together with a friend here Friday morning. I suggested Sunnyside Up because I knew she was a coffee drinker. She had never been there before and we both had a great time. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit smoothie that I had and she enjoyed her coffee. Although I didn't use it - I appreciate the free WiFi!

Excellent food, laid back amosphere. Good selection of vegetarian options. Great coffees. Perfect for families because of the play area with toys. They prefer that you pay with cash and add a surcharge for credit card payments

Pancakes are berry good. The help are very personable and helpful. Would recommend buying an empty bowl to benefit the hungry and homeless of lynn benton county.

Absolutely delicious food. I can't remember the name of the sandwich I ordered, but it wasn't like any breakfast sandwich I've ever had (it had egg, avocado, cheese, and some other veggies), sooo delicious. This place is busy and has got personality. Great young atmosphere, friendly staff.

Mediocre food. Kind of dirty. Too many hippies- if you are into shopping at Northern Star, then this is your place. If not, then head across the street to The Broken Yoke to get better food with the same mediocre service.

I've only been here once for breakfast, but there was nothing about that experience that's made me want to come back. The food was just okay, the staff wasn't friendly and I didn't like the feel of the place.

LOVED the americano I got here! It was perfect in every way. BF ordered the French toast, I opted for the huevos rancheros as per recomendation of the friendly barista. Portions are xtra large and fully tasty. Place is hippie friendly and lots of people hanging out chillin at 11AM on a Wednesday morn. Check out the books on display regarding the impact of clearcutting on the Western US and Canada. Really eye opening.

Stumbled on this place for breakfast on Sunday. The four of us (husband and two sons) were very hungry after a long drive and were looking forward to a great breakfast. All of us were very happy with our order: one son ordered french toast (he said it was amazing), one ordered the quesadillas (really different, he said, in a good way), my husband was very happy wolfing down the breakfast sandwich, and I had the eggs florentine with potatoes and a wonderful latte. Enjoyed the ambiance and music. All-in-all, it was a great way to end the weekend and I'm looking forward to going back. And I don't even mind cleaning up my own table!

On a positive note, they have a great tea selection. Aside from that, I can't recommend anything about this place, except perhaps the potential. But don't we all have untapped potential? Doesn't mean we should ever expect it to surface. I've been here before, so I am not sure why we brought friends here for breakfast. Because, on a Sunday, it was the only place without a line? That should be a clear message, but we've already established I can be a bit slow. Cashier was friendly. Service was slow. Order was not correct. Food was cold. Food did not taste good. Incorrect order was returned, and they didn't actually say anything constructive, like 'I'm sorry' or 'I'll fix that' or anything. They were apparently out of salsa for the huevos rancheros. About 20 minutes after our order was placed, someone came out and informed us of the shortage. They asked if we wanted to change our order (20 minutes after we placed it) or just have the meal without salsa. We took it without salsa. Not sure salsa would have improved it any. We sat there for another 40 minutes, and during that time heard the staff come out and give the same salsa spiel to at least 2 other tables. Makes me wonder why they didn't just tell the people when they placed their order at the counter. WHY wouldn't they do that? I heard the same conversation when we were walking out the door. WTF. It's not performance art, it's a restaurant AND a business... so step it up, Sunnyside. Ordered biscuits and gravy. Gravy was horrible. Looks like they make it with water instead of milk. Looks like a lot of things -- none of them good. Food was cold. Eggs were cooked incorrectly, even though the cashier repeated it back to make sure she got it right. Returned the eggs, and 20 minutes later still didn't have them back at the table. Told them not to bother, as my cold gravy was even colder. Sad. To top it off, some lovely child was banging on a toy xylophone most of the time. Fitting. We won't be back. Even for tea.

What a disappointment! The gravy in my vegetarian biscuits and gravy was basically a roux with some non-dairy milk, no seasoning, and some crumbled tofu. It was bland on bland for $13. Truly, the prices here are astounding given the poor quality of the recipes and the fact that there is no table service. My partner's tofu scramble appeared to have no seasoning either, but at least his dish was just under $10. The only reason I would ever come back here is if I wanted to entertain some kids while drinking mediocre coffee. They did have a nice toy set up in one room, plus the general decor of the place already has the feel of a children's museum (colorful rounded paint details don't scream sophistication.

Stay away!!!!! I was surprised how this place is still on business. I asked for hummus to substitute for their herb seasoning ( on non dairy diet for breastfeeding) , they will charge you extra, though I asked no cheese. If you want to change anything on a menu, they will charge you extra even for the bread selections! The food was okay, nothing good or bad! For over $9 for a breakfast wrap, it is not worth of it at all. They have a playground area for kids but do not think anyone ever cleans or sanitizes the toys. The bathroom was dirty and messy!!! It's quite a scary and disappointing experience!!! Thumbs down ( with two hands) !!!

The best review I have read on here about Sunnyside Up is that it should be called Sunnyside Down and I agree 100%! There really is absolutely nothing "sunny" about this place. A group of my friends and I came here and had the WORST service I have ever experienced. My friend and I decided to share the regular stack of blueberry pancakes which, at the time, costed $12.50. At first we thought, wow this must be a large set of pancakes if it costs nearly $13! So we decided to split the cost and share this order. There was about 10 people in our party so of course it was reasonable for us to expect them to take longer on our orders. However, there was NO ONE else in the restaurant but us and another smaller party. It was almost empty. As we waited for our food, an HOUR went by..so we took a peek into the kitchen through the open window and saw the chefs CLEANING...not making any food whatsoever. So I got up to one of the chefs, told them we had been waiting for an hour and that we would like to have our food brought to us once it is made. They confirmed our order number which they had previously known about and then tell me, "oh yeah we are gonna start that soon" after we had already been waiting for an hour! We then go to the front counter to complain about our orders and they reassure us that it will be "coming out shortly". Then, they tried to bribe us with some free pastries. Keep in mind, the cafe is nearly empty, not a single bit busy with other customers. After another half an hour, our orders finally started to arrive. And the $13 "stack" of pancakes my friend and I had split turned out to be the size of my palm! It was even served with a small stick of cold butter, not a single bit of effort was put into making these pancakes look somewhat fancy. To make matters worse, another person in my party was not satisfied with the way her waffle turned out in comparison to another waffle order in our party so she called our waitress over and asked for a new one. The waitress then stood there and tried to ARGUE with her about how her waffle was exactly the same as the other waffle and how it was perfectly fine! Absolutely ridiculous! What ever happened to "the customer is always right?!" She then, very snobbishly, took her waffle back to the kitchen without saying a single word. She did not even apologize for the poor quality of the waffle! As I was also not satisfied with the size and quality of our pancakes, considering we had paid nearly $13 for them, I went to the front counter and asked for a refund. They then told me that that could not be done because they "had already closed the cash register", so the chef said he would make us another batch with larger pancakes. When our rude waitress came back with the larger pancakes she literally slammed them onto the table right in front of us. We were completely speechless! The rest of my party turned around and looked at her in shock as she walked away and a couple of them told me they saw her ROLL her eyes!! "Sunnyside Up" is the most terrible breakfast/brunch place in Corvallis. If you are looking for a great breakfast place in this area go to Les Caves or Broken Yolk.

The service here was great but the food was gross. I had three items. A cappuccino, a gluten free chocolate chip cookie, and the Eggs Parisian or something line that. The cappuccino was excellent, the cookie was good but I found a white hair baked into it and the eggs were brown, missing the cheese and about a third of the size you would expect for $10. It was like one brown scrambled egg. The fruit that came with it was tiny and had a big, moldy grape in the middle.

It's not the '90s anymore, but sometimes I want it to be. Sometimes, I'm also in Corvallis, Oregon, eagerly awaiting my first chance to see Natalie Achonwa in person. What does one do? One goes to Sunnyside Up. Since I just dropped a bunch of Notre Dame boohoo--or should I say Domer swizzle?--I'll see your Sunnyside Up in December 2013 and raise you a Lula's Cafe circa November 2001. Is it rainy? Check! Is it delicious and homey and full of not-quite-primary colors that it was very popular to paint individual walls in 1996? Check! Is the service slower than it needs to be but also strangely endearing, like your friend's girlfriend with the extremely lopsided smile and the mother who is always trying to set her daughter's boyfriend's friends up with her way-too-old spinster nieces? Check! Check, check, check. All in a line. So what did Natalie do? She showed up in warm-ups, but I was scared because she had been hurt, and I didn't recognize her right away and thought maybe she hadn't made the trip. But I was just trippin' because she looks way shorter in a basketball arena because six-three really isn't that tall from far off. Relatively or otherwise. Sunnyside Up filled my belly before Notre Dame women's basketball lifted my soul. Was driving 1,840 miles round-trip for a single non-conference women's basketball game in late December worth it? Absolutely. I'd do it again, except this year they're playing at UCLA. The commitment won't be as great, but love is love is love. Thank you, Sunnyside Up, for giving me something delicious to chew on.

Quite possibly the slowest, most inefficiently restaurant (and I'm using that term very loosely) I've ever encountered. It truly baffled our party to sit, and sit, and sit, and sit for an hour and ten minutes for two breakfasts of eggs, potatoes and toast plus a bagel and cream cheese. No, just no.

Ditzy waitress lost our fucking order. We waited there for over an hour, as our waitress passed us, delivering people their food (many of them had arrived after us). Ended up leaving, and by then it was lunchtime. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

For two very easy dishes, oj, and a latte I paid $34 including tip. My plate was super easy and wished I made it myself at home. It also was way too small for the price and the potatoes were inedible. My girl liked her French toast tho so that's why they get the second star. Basically I'm broke and still hungry. Don't recommend.

I don't know why it's called sunny side up because when I would have gotten my food the sun would have gone down. I ordered poached eggs and toast. They must be waiting for the chickens to lay the eggs. We've been here for nearly an hour waiting and the place isn't even busy. We got a refund and left because we were waiting for too long. Too bad because they're really nice people and obviously trying really hard.
