The waitresses at this establishment blow me away each time I visit - and not in a positive way. Their behavior varies from visit to visit - I've been there maybe 7 times over the last couple years. One of those visits was blissfully uneventful - I managed to enter, order, be served, eat, pay and leave without incident. That's not the norm in my experience though. The general tone from the wait staff seems to be exasperation. Each visit save the one uneventful one left me feeling like a child under the supervision of a teenage babysitter who would much rather be elsewhere and was doing the bare minimum possible to get paid. I've been served grossly out of order - with people entering 10 minutes after me placing their orders first and being gone before I've started to eat. During those waits I've sat without so much as a cup of coffee - which would have gone a long way to quelling my rage. In nearly every visit I've had the food kinda flung/slid onto the table with the waitress already turned in the opposite direction - as though she'd really preferred to have thrown it but settled for a passive-aggressive fling instead. English muffins seem to come either dry or drenched in 'butter' - toasted if you're lucky. This is, not surprisingly, a waitress duty. Given the wait staff's general demeanor and taking, as it does, roughly one minute and four whole steps to produce a butter-moistened and toasted english muffin, I suppose this should come as no surprise. Should you like to take issue with any of these things you're just out of luck, you won't see that waitress again until she comes back by to give a sh**-eating grin while delivering the check. Oh, and if you're seriously lucky, refill that mug you waited forever to get, drained and subsequently have been waving at her in an increasingly less subtle manner. This doesn't scratch the surface. The last two times I've been there I've actually started letters to the owner, whom I seriously hope is ignorant rather than tolerant or encouraging of this type of behavior. The letters have both been scrapped on my way out the door, my oath to never return rendering them pointless. I can't emphasize enough - the service is TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. That mug-waving comment? Yeah - it's true. And the waitress at the time? Standing at the counter with her hands on her HIPS, spaced-out, staring *past* me out into the street. INFURIATING. So does the food make up for the service? Well, not many breakfasts could, provided you've got any dignity. Judging by the prices and decor, they're shooting for something a step up from Tommy's (recommended greasy spoon) and Sharon's (formerly-recommended greasy spoon). In comparison to these places I'd say The Broken Yolk does serve a tastier plate in most cases, mostly due to better ingredients. Judging by taste, they don't appear to buy the cheapest cheese, etc (a route your typical greasy spoon would take). They also include green ingredients like avacado, which would send Sharon's redneck clientele scurrying for the door. The much-vaunted jam in the ketchup bottle is nothing to write home about, but a step up diner-staple 'apple butter' packets. The cooks seem to do a competent job. That their honest effort is ultimately soiled by the behavior of the indifferent servers earns them my sympathy. A typical visit finds me sitting, clutching my empty coffee mug, watching the assault on human dignity that is the Yolk's wait staff, wondering whether the cooks know what happens out front and then wondering whether it might be best for them to just remain ignorant. So why do you see lines for this place on Saturday & Sunday mornings? I'd like to say it puzzles me, but I'm pretty sure it's just this town's ample supply of self-satisfied, affluenzic hipsters, attracted to the IKEA-like basic colors, happy to accept indignity and confident that indifference is a sure sign of quality. Well, in this case, it's not. What it IS is an episode of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares waiting to happen (witness my last visit, weekday midmorning, when cook threw a minor tantrum and unceremoniously closed up shop).

Broken Yolk was THE place to be on a Saturday morning in Corvallis at 10 AM. Line out the door, super casual, with a sign-up yourself waiting list. My stomach was rumbling and grumbling like none other, which I'm sure the hostess must have heard because shortly after we got a table - YES! The coffee came quick and the server was super sweet, she reminded me of a kindergarten teacher, so polite and checked in multiple times throughout the meal, always smiling. Sometimes service, especially during a rush, is so sub-par, that this waitress really stood out and went and beyond to just be cordial and friendly. Always a good start to your morning. I ordered the hobo hash which was GINORMOUS! Seriously huge...almost too huge. I was full before even hitting the half-way mark on my plate. Which the food tasted good, it was a bit heavy...I was so full, I don't think I ate anything until like 7 PM later that night. My fiance ordered a scramble. The meal was filling, not anything extraordinary. Ultimately it satiated our hungry rumbling tummies enough to get on with our day. This place is not your gourmet establishment, but if come hungry and they'll fill you up with comfort food. Overall, I'd give a 5 for service, a 3 for food...but I think food wins!

This is the only breakfast restaurant in Corvallis to have decent Eggs Benedict, and their Denver omelette is also quite good. The strawberry jam is amazing... I order a side of toast just so I have an excuse to eat the jam. But service is inconsistent at best, very often unfriendly. Last time we were there, our waitress was pretty obviously high on something. No exaggeration, she was all twitchy and distracted, yelled a couple of times, and once walked away in mid-sentence.

I came here this morning for the first time and ordered the early bird special (only available before 8 AM). The waitress was especially friendly, greeted me right away, and service was quick. The meal was the cheapest on the menu, but I was quite satisfied it. * I ordered an orange juice, and it came in a pint glass with no ice - which was awesome. My water was also consistently kept full. * There was a squeeze bottle on the table with strawberry jam that was absolutely awesome. It went great with the sourdough toast that came out buttered and tasty already. Others on here have mentioned the strawberry jam, and it definitely lived up to expectations. My only suggestion is to serve an extra packet or two of butter with the meal. * I ordered the home fries and am very glad that I did. They were fantastic. * The breakfast came with two slices of ham. The ham tasted great, but could have been a bit thicker. * I ordered my eggs sunny side up, and they turned out well. The table I was at had all the condiments I needed for the breakfast. * The wifi was free and worked great, but there was only one outlet available (though the waitress did immediately offer that, which was nice). I'd be willing to go back and try other menu items. The prices seem a tad bit high, but the place seemed hip, popular, and classy.

There was a short wait to get in - this is a popular place. The atmosphere was fun and energetic. The waitress was helpful and attentive until we received our food then I guess she got busy elsewhere - had to find her to pay. The food was reasonably priced and very good. Excellent selection of egg dishes and generous portions. My only complaint was the noise level. Ambient noise from conversations in the room was loud. At times I had difficulty hearing what people were saying at our table. If they put in a little sound baffling I would have given them a 4.5

The best eggs Benedict anywhere. They also have AMAZING service!! A must visit if you are in corvallis. Also if you're in the mood for coffee AND a hot chocolate they have a special drink for you. It's delicious.

I come here for breakfast occasional and the food is usually pretty good. However, plan on being here awhile because the service is pretty slow, friendly, but slow.

There is something wrong with this place. There is some sort of unspoken system regarding how tips, work-level, or something are divided that results in the most customer unfriendly environment imaginable. On some days, this place is packed and there is a line out the door; you get seated where you get seated. I'm not talking about those days. I'm talking about all the other days when it's just the locals and there are a few empty tables to choose from. I don't care what the system is. I don't care how much sense it makes from a management perspective. It is decidedly customer unfriendly, routinely results in seating customers in less-liked tables when "better" tables are available, and is simply confusing to the customer. "Why are you seating me way back here at this tiny table when there are a bunch of available four-tops near the windows and noboy waiting for them?" "Why are you suggesting I take that table on the right over the table on the left, instead of asking me to pick?" If this place was struggling for business and they were saving big tables for big parties, that'd be one thing. But that isn't the case. This place does plenty of business and (when business is slow...) me wanting to sit on one side of the restaurant or the other, or sit at a four-top instead of a two-top doesn't negatively affect your bottom line one iota. Lastly, lose the attitude. Your system isn't customer friendly, you shouldn't be surprised or give us lip when we suggest a table that actually makes sense from our perspective. While the food is good, it would be much more enjoyable if they didn't start things off on such a bad foot each and every time I go there...

love the breakfast food!! one of the best eggs Benedict I've ever had! give a good amount for the price. only bad thing are their open hours, they close early I'd eat their eggs Benedict even if it wasn't breakfast

Great hangover breakfast spot, decently priced.

"Sam's Station?" naahh.... "Shari's??" Oh hell no... "Broken Yolk??" hell to the yes! Breakfast food without the fast food/chain taste. Decent/semi overpriced dishes that meet the standards of having a hearty breakfast. I miss this place. I miss the atmosphere. I miss bumping into friends here. And I miss coming here with my sister. Every time my sister came down to visit from Portland she and I would make it a ritual to come here and eat. After a couple impatient times at Sam's Station this has become our spot to stuff our stomachs in the mid-morning. I also brought my man here too and his review is below. A different environment for sure than what you can find in SF unless someone can direct me to one place that is the place to go for breakfast =P I had no problem with waiting for a table because I was usually with one other person so don't let big crowds outside fool you. Most likely, they are the big families/groups that want in. My one huge pet peeve is the un-supervised kids that are in the play area. Okay yea you can drop your kid off there but pleeeeeaseeeee keep an eye on them. And if you can't get them to shut up, get them out of there for the sanity of the rest of patrons... Last thing, come early enough to beat the church crowds on Sundays!!

I love this place. I was looking for a breakfast place downtown with my dad and I am so happy we stumbled upon it. They have great homemade tasting breakfast, and that's what you really want for breakfast. I had the northwest veggie scramble, I believe is what it was called and it was great. And definitely be sure to try grandma's jam. I can't wait to have breakfast there again.

Because of the awesome service I got on civil war Saturday, in apparently the only breakfast place in Corvallis, this place would get 5 stars. However, the food was not too great. I walked in with high hopes. I expected a meal that tasted home made with love, but what I got was like left overs from ihop! Obviously low quality frozen potatoes and the toughest, almost burnt pancakes ever. I couldn't even cut them with my fork when they were soaked in syrup. Next time I need breakfast in Corvallis I'll head to Starbucks. Go Auburn!

There is nothing better for breakfast than a large amount of tasty, moderately greasy food. Especially when you have a mild headache from 'excessive celebration' from the night before. Broken Yolk nailed it the first time. Notebook-sized plates of pancakes, hashbrowns, toast, eggs, biscuits/gravy -- all adjacent to one-another for appropriate co-mingling of tasty goodness? Check. Check. and Check! Good quality grub at a reasonable price. I would not hesitate to return. But beware -- when this place gets busy the wait for a table can be long (30+ minutes) and the wait staff gets overwhelmed with correspondingly slow service. On the plus side our server was friendly and accomodating at all times, and our coffee and water were always filled. One star docked for generic bread with the wheat toast -- with associated 'painted on' butter. And one star docked for the setup: waiting area isn't separate from the tables, and on a cold day folks will hold the door open exposing those who are trying to dine to a brutal draft.

This place has great food, and my experience with the service has been fine. You may have to wait for a table as they get really, really busy sometimes, but other than that, not many problems. On a recent visit though I asked for a to go box and was told that there is a 50 cent charge for one, but that I could have a paper plate and a piece of foil for free. Silly. They give you a HUGE amount of food, then want to charge you for taking home the left overs. Obviously they must be reacting to an increase in the cost of the boxes. The boxes are a much simpler, cleaner, more effective solution to the situation than paper plates and tin foil. And is there no cost to the process of explaining all this to people, and having to cut tin foil and bring it out? And what about the annoyance factor. Someone needs to rethink this.

A place open at 6a.m. for breakfast! I have been eating there for a couple time since it opened no long ago... It was always packed during lunch time on the weekends whenever I go. Lunch menu doesn't serve during weekends though. I have had their "The Motherload" with Biscuits&gravy with 2 sausage links, 2 bacon strips, 2 eggs, hash browns and toast. I liked it! Especially, their jam in ketchup bottle, I can add as many as I want!! =) This is one of the restaurants I have been that is "kid friendly".. I am seriously.. they have a little play place at the corner... and they have coloring pencil and paper right next to their front door! 3 stars on the food, 1 more star for the kids!
(4)Miranda P.
Good food, random service. We waited 10 minutes for water, but then we got a pretty good server this time. I would say, don't go to the Broken Yolk on the weekend unless you have plenty of time and patience -- or go on a weekday morning.

I've eaten at broken yolk probably a half dozen times or so since they opened. The decor is great- someone knew what they were doing when they built out the restaurant- has a good vibe. As far as the food goes, it's good. Pretty consistent and nice big omelets :) Having been there a half dozen times or so, the food is really what keeps me coming back periodically when I'm interested in going out to breakfast and I'm downtown. If I were in north town, I'd opt for Sam's Station. The big turnoff is the service. I've not had any rude experience(although some might think them rude), simply awkward ones. For example, a group walked through the door, and the waitress was gesturing and talking at them across two tables, with other patrons staring in disbelief, instead of approaching them and politely addressing them in close quarters. Another customer walked in and approached the bar area to get a mocha to go, and stood for a good ten minutes while wait staff walked around him, never asking if they could help him. When someone finally approached him, he politely said no thank you and that he changed his mind. Awkward. I should also point out that it was not THAT busy. Maybe 65% capacity. Then, a few minutes later, a hoard of sorority girls came in for breakfast. There weren't any long tables left, so the waitress went over to another couple that was sitting at a four top and asked them to move so they could push together a couple nearby four-tops for the girl group. Just plain weird. Do they realize this is poor form for restaurant service? If I were buying a 2.99 grand slam breakfast, I'd maybe look past the weirdo service, but my omelet and coffee with a tip ran over 12 bucks. That deserves a little bit more. So, 4 stars for the tasty omelets, the good coffee and the nifty squeeze bottles of strawberry jam. 2 stars for the service.

Best classic breakfast in town. They offer decent variety, and some local incredients. The strawberry freezer jam is awesome! I would go back just for that :) They offer avocado on several menu items which is always a bonus for me. I went on a friday morning and it was pretty busy. The service was a bit slow but i overheard they were understaffed and i could tell they were trying hard. I have been assured by multiple people that the service is not usually slow. I will go back, for sure.

My opinion is that you avoid this place. It has given me some of the least pleasant breakfast experiences in town, mainly due to the (pardon me) boneheaded wait staff and overworked kitchen. If you go there on a weekend morning, forget it. The ambiance will be loud, your service inattentive, and the wait staff looking as if they have just been chased for 20 miles by a pack of rabid weasels. Not only is the service terrible, but the food is mediocre as well, not much better than Dennys, and on several occasions I have encountered overcooked eggs (a game-changer in my estimation). Breakfast should be a no-brainer. Just slap some gunk on a plate, no real cooking skill required. Additionally, they are not big on special requests. I asked for bacon that was not particularly crispy, and they were unable to accomodate me. Also, their hash browns come out in rectangles, which bugs the living bejesus out of me. Rectangular hash browns are for the school (or prison) cafeteria, guys. Get with the program!

The Broken Yolk has the best breakfast-food in town. The skillets, omelets, pancakes, strawberry jam and coffee are especially tasty. If you've never been here before then you should go. However, it's a perfect candidate for one of those "Hell's Kitchen"-type shows: The service has gotten slightly better since they opened, but it's still not very good (or maybe I've learned to expect the odd service). The staff who have been here the longest would benefit the most from a restaurant-etiquette book -- the service is usually decent when my waiter is a new hire. I've eaten at the Broken Yolk a couple dozen times since they opened a few years ago. This place would be packed every day if the service were good; but, it's not. I like the food a lot, though, so here is some advice: 1. Stop saying "there's no rush" or "take your time" when you bring the check. You say it every time, so clearly this is a conscious choice and part of the training. It comes across as insincere. Just say "thank you." Or nothing. 2. Ask before refilling my coffee. Yes, it's delicious, but I've just perfected my sugar-to-coffee ratio, and I only want to drink a cup anyway. 3. The "entry experience" is one of the worst in town. When I enter by myself, I've stopped waiting to be noticed and I usually seat myself. This has gotten slightly better over the years, but it's still below average. 4. It's not uncommon to be seated at a dirty table. 5. So many of the little things are wrong, I don't know how helpful it would be to continue. Perhaps this is the "style" of the restaurant, but everything comes across as disorganized. The ebb and flow of greetings, service, observing patrons, and busing tables is just not there. I don't know if this is a layout issue or people issue. Yes, you get busy at times, but patrons understand that, and some of the worst service I've gotten was when business was slow. 6. Figure out a better way to "close" the back area besides putting chairs on top of the tables in the middle of the day. (One idea: Don't close it.) 7. The word that best describes the service is "unaware." Maybe visit some other places in town, read a few books, or take a class, and think about it? I'll keep coming back for the food. But, when Corvallis gets an excellent breakfast place downtown, the Broken Yolk will fade if they don't make considerable changes.

This is a great place to come for hangover food. Poring over the menu, it was difficult to decide what to eat as everything looked so good! I ended up getting the Greek omelet with my necessary substitutions made, and the waitress was sweet enough to accommodate all of my requests. Service was prompt, and within moments my friend and I were able to nurse our hangovers with some tasty breakkie. My omelet was incredibly fluffy and I loved the addition of toasted pine nuts on top. Although I don't eat ham, my friends eggs benny looked tempting. They definitely don't skimp on the portions here. Just thinking about their breakkie makes my mouth water. I think this is going to be my hangover joint, as they serve of great breakkie in an unpretentious atmosphere.

My Mom drives up from Eugene every so often to see me, and she ALWAYS asks to get lunch at the Broken Yolk! I've been here a handful of times with her and I've never had a bad meal or bad service! Good job guys!
(4)Amanda A.
This is one of the better breakfasts I've had. Their skillet options are amazing both in appearance and quality. We came here for brunch - definitely the right time. Since the portions are so large it took care of breakfast and lunch for that day! Everyone was super nice and we had great service from all of the staff. The atmosphere was perfect for a chatting and enjoying a relaxed meal. They even have a small play area for kids. Though I don't have kids of my own I really liked this as it kept the younger patrons busy while waiting for their food and eliminated the screaming that seems to accompanying impatient children. Our weekday visit was perfect as the restaurant was overly busy and it was super easy to find close by parking. Definitely my first choice for breakfast in Corvallis!

This is my favorite breakfast place in Corvallis. I recommend this place to everyone. A little tip: Go with only 2 or 3 of you so you can squeeze in without waiting more than 20 minutes. It's very busy so I think that speaks for itself. If you bring your kids it does have a "kids club" play area to keep them occupied. They have a great menu. It's fitting for everyone! I would recommend eating off of their specialty menu. It's a great way to try something new with a mix of regular morning favorites. Make sure to order something with toast so you can try their "Grandma's homemade strawberry jam". I'm not a fan of toast or jam, but this was excellent. I'm really big on service, which is why I gave them a 4 star. They didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink they just brought us water and asked if we were ready to order. Since we didn't order right away she kind of forgot about us and it took about 15 minutes and 5 looks later to get her to come over and take our order. It is understandable though since they are so busy. They have good prices and great portions. My boyfriend and I both ended up taking half of our meal home. I ordered the cajun skillet, and it was great! The potatoes are a new favorite of mine. It's very clean and has fun artwork. It's a great breakfast atmosphere. We will definitely be going back!
(4)Pete B.
I'd say the service is mediocre, having a high server here in Corvallis seems to be about typical. I got a Cheddar, Ham Bacon omelette and it was fantastic. The local strawberry jam they keep in a ketchup type dispenser really goes well with the wheat bread! Sensational. Atmosphere is pretty good. Say 8/10. Much better than my hometown omelette express!
(4)Natasha M.
I totally love the food here, but the service is sooooo awful sometimes you wait 35 minutes to get a menu. Another time I walked in and was told to sit anywhere, when I went to sit down some angry old lady that ended up being my waitress shouted across the room that there IS a wait to be seated sign. The rest of breakfast she was trying to be incredibly sweet to get her tip. Another time I couldn't get my coffee refilled because the waiter was too busy talking to a cook for 40 minutes. I haven't been back since that time.
(2)jason b.
Clean, friendly, efficient service with over cooked, and skimpy on the meat food. We will only return if the Sunnyside Up cafe across the street is closed.
(2)Claire S.
I came in this morning and got the special. It was supposed to have 4 types of meat, but I could only find ham and bacon, and even that was a stretch. The cheese in my scramble was not melted, and the home-fries were just deep fried cut up french-fries. Overall this place was just not good, and the ambiance was beyond cheesy. I guess I should expect this from a college town breakfast joint, but overall over-priced and not that good.
(2)Emily S.
Worst biscuits and gravy I've ever had. It tasted like the gravy was 50% onion chunks and then was dusted with paprika, even though I asked them (twice) for no paprika. We waited for more than 45 minutes for our food, a neighboring table spilled water on my lap (since the tables are very close together), and we were seated right across from the kitchen entrance. Maybe I would have a different experience if I went again, sat somewhere else, and ordered something else, but currently I have no plans to return.

The reviews here on yelp must have had an effect on the people down at Broken Yolk, because the service we received was both attentive and genuine. After the series of failures at Sunnyside Up yesterday, we'd asked around for another breakfast place and so, going into this, I'd been nearly crossing my fingers that we'd not have a repeat experience. To that end, I figured that the quickest way to see what Broken Yolk had to offer would be for me to order poached eggs (trouble to amateurish cooks) alongside a dish that is either a point of pride or a dump dish (ie. the kitchen dumps it out w/o a thought): Chicken-fried Steak. My wife ordered an enticing special, The Athens, to round out our breakfast. Moments after we'd been sat, the waitress (only one on shift, no less) arrived with our freshly brewed coffee, and we were immediately pleased with the flavor, the aroma and overall quality of this drip-brew. Its not very often that a bottomless cup is worth refilling and this was certainly the exception: strong but not bitter, and full of complexity. She also seemed to handle each of the seven tables aside from ours with equal energy and understanding of their needs. Our meals were humbly but well-plated, and of healthy portions for the price (no bloated, middle-America feel here). Surprisingly enough, my Chicken-fried Steak, a dish traditionally found at truck-stops and 24hr greasy spoons, was hand-breaded and herbed to perfection. It went so very well with the skilled production of the two poached eggs, so pretty they were photogenic, and tasty too! Holly's special was also quite pleasant, being well-balanced and aromatic. We had fun trying to keep the other's fork from sneaking into our own dish.... In summary, we're very pleased to have had the good fortune to come across a decent breakfast place that shies away from hollow-but-fashionable trends or politically-driven menu decisions. The folks at Broken Yolk see no fault in sticking to the basics and excelling at them, and we are happy to agree. We will certainly be back!
(4)Jennifer D.
Best breakfast in Corvallis. It is usually really packed, so either go early or late. The jam is amazing, and the food is SO good! The service is slow if you go on a busy day, but it is worth it. I have taken both my parents there on Mom and Dad's weekend. They both love it and request to go there even after 3 years of dealing with the 20 minute wait. The people that work there are really nice, even though they have a huge line of people waiting to get in the door!
(5)Suzy M.
My husband and I went today for lunch for the first time. Excellent from start to finish! Cute mugs for the pop, friendly and attentive service, fun atmosphere and great food!! The best Hungarian mushroom soup that I have EVER had. I actually had to take a to- go batch home for a lunch treat tomorrow! Chicken wrap was one of the best I've ever had. Will always go back when in Corvallis!!
(5)Gabriel A.
Food is OK. mostly over-priced. The coffee especially. What creeps me out about the place, is that they only seem to hire attractive young women for service. I like attractive young women as much as any straight guy or whatnot, but I don't dig sexism, elitism, ageism, etc. Usually the wait is long, but I don't really blame them for that. It's just that alot of people go there. Grandma's jam just seems like watered down smuckers with extra sugar added as far as i can tell.
(2)Melissa W.
I am of the opinion that if a restaurant is full and there is a long waiting list it must be THE place to eat. So, I was willing to wait to feed my famished family. As I did, I could see that the food did indeed look delicious and that the diners were definitely enjoying it. I could also see that the staff in this place moved at a snail's pace. Most frustrating was the server who was obviously very interested in his tips as he stopped at least 5 times to count them during our 40 minute wait. In fact, the table that sat there empty for 30 of our 40 minutes except for the dirty dishes that you started to bus but then became entranced in what must be the most amazing hand in the world would have been perfect for our group. Yes, I know you are a college student and tips are very important for your livelihood as well as what is more likely your party money, but it's basic math to know that if your service is good you will make more of these much needed tips so stop counting and get back to work. This place is redeemed only by it's good food and our waiter who, although not the most friendly, must have seen my open frustration and was going to serve us quickly and avoid getting blasted for something that he didn't deserve. My hope is he didn't have to share his tip with you.
(2)Brett M.
Why this place is so crowded all the time I will never figure out....but then I don't understand why anyone would wait 30 minutes at Applebees either. The service is rude and uncaring, the food is overpriced and quite unremarkable, and the space (being all cement floors) echoes with screaming children from the "play area". All in all, what I would term a dining nightmare. If I drank, I would have to take a few nips of the bottle before being able to take this place again. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE surley wait staff and even love being insulted when it is in jest....that is not the case here.
(1)Meg D.
There's not much to say. I came for lunch the other day and was not impressed. My lunch buddy and I each ordered a wrap and both were mediocre-actually less than mediocre. My steak wrap was stuffed to the max with lettuce, totally skimped on the steak (which was lame anyway...we're talking salad bar material), and just bland overall. The Hawaiian pork wrap my friend ordered was, in my opinion, completely gross. I abhor wasting food and I have a consistently healthy appetite, but even I could not stomach the pork wrap. The soup that came with the wrap was very good, though. I should mention that. I'd happily have that again. It was Hungarian mushroom, I believe. Supposedly the breakfast's good? I'm not willing to risk wasting money at this place again. There are (at least a few) other better options in town. I also found the decor irritating. They were trying just a tad too hard to be cool and edgy. The paint-by-number paintings of Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson? Really??? Is this necessary?

Really good breakfast entrees. Big portions for average prices. Avoid this place during the normal breakfast times though as its SLOW... but the food is almost worth the wait.
(4)David W.
Meh. Highly mediocre. By a breakfast joint's potatoes shall it be judged and these are commercial mass produced spuds.

My husband and I took our family ( party of 5) out to brunch yesterday to the Broken Yolk. Granted, I am not a big fan of the place, but here in Corvallis, pickins are slim. We arrived to a packed house, but were seated fairly quickly. After 20 minutes or so, our waitress decided to stop by and take our order. Now, it may be just me, but don't you usually get a cup of coffee shortly after being seated?? I guess not at the Broken Yolk. So, she took our orders, brought our coffee (after 5 minutes or so) and came back almost a half hour later with our breakfast. Not once did she or anyone else stop by our table to refill our coffee! The good news is, three out of five enjoyed their breakfast. Our daughter ordered the waffels and added strawberries and whipped cream for an extra $2.50. She got a few cut up strawberries and five small dollops of whipped cream on a hard waffel...she was bummed. My three garden sausages were okay, but were not worth the $3.50. By the way, I am a huge fan of grapefruit juice, so I ordered a large glass ~ too bad it was not even close to fresh squeezed. When all was said and done, breakfast took over an hour and cost us just under $60.00. I will never go back to the Broken Yolk; that is Way too much $$$ for Such poor service!
(1)Ryan W.
Been there a couple of times now, once just because I stumbled across it and it looked interesting and once with the family after I saw the kids area. I haven't been impressed with the lunch menu food, pretty heavy for the most part. But the play area is great when eating with little ones (although they're seriously lacking in the high chair department, odd for a place with a play area). Service was fine. I'd like to try breakfast next time.
(3)Misti H.
Great food! Great service! This is one of Corvallis' little treasures! I enjoyed many a breakfast with friends and family and even all alone. Its a place that always makes you feel welcome and feeds you enough to take home leftovers!
(5)Sam S.
I recommend their skillets and a side of bacon (if you're a bacon hound like me...). There coffee is solid and reminds me of a cup of joe with grandma on the farm. Service is awesome here! The staff are fast and friendly. If you're visiting Corvallis, definitely start your day here!!
(5)Roxy F.
The food was amazing and the service was spectacular! The wrap was absolutely delicious.
(5)Debbee C.
Grandmas Jam is still amazing homemade jam! The taste of times gone by. We cannot come to Corvallis without coming here!! Today we ordered "The double dipper" , "the crispy buffalo chicken wrap", "The big wet burrito". They let the burrito substitute chicken for chorizo, and as usual the atmosphere was upbeat, amazingly happy, and we had a waitress that couldn't stop smiling to us...
(5)Alex A.
We decided to stop for breakfast, on our way to the coast. It was early and it was very busy. (to me, that says alot about a business, busy is a good thing). We only had to wait for about 5 minutes, and were seated by some very kind servers. All the wait staff were outstanding, kind, knowledgeable and helpful. (Thank you). The place was busy, and once our order was placed, did not take too long for it to reach our table. We were very happy with the quality of the food. It was hot, and very tasty. I had the sausage and egg breakfast, and it was done very good. We will certainly be back and would invite all our family and friends to stop by and check it out.
(4)Mel G.
Service was a 'lil slow, but breakfast/pancakes & coffee were delicious. Comfy atmosphere. If I am ever back in Corvallis, I would like to return. :-)
(4)Mackenzie M.
Easily the best breakfast in town. Gets crowded; little over priced, but still delicious. I get the eggs Benedict every time. I really want to try something else but the eggs Benny is just too good. I never regret ordering them. Sadly, this place has ruined Shari's for me. Every time I go to Shari's I end up wishing I'd have come here.
(5)Marie C.
I put off visiting this place because of the mixed reviews (and because I already have a go-to breakfast place in Albany) but I was pleasantly surprised. They seated me immediately on what looked to be a fairly busy Friday morning. I settled in with my laptop and a generously sized cup of coffee, prepared to wait for my food, but the waitress brought my order almost immediately (within five minutes). I ordered the huevos rancheros with black beans and they were delicious -- I cleaned my plate. Gooey cheese, perfectly prepared eggs, and a generous amount of guacamole and sour cream. This item is listed as spicy on the menu, but I did not find it so (every table is stocked with Cholula and chipotle pepper sauce though, so I was able to add additional heat). In all -- low-key diner atmosphere with quick, friendly service. Nothing fancy, but a good place for breakfast if you happen to be in Corvallis.
(4)Sevann H.
Awesome little breakfast place. Southwestern skillet was amazing, guacamole and sour cream over home fries that were delicious. We were seated immediately and our food came out less than 10 minutes after we ordered. Service was fantastic. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes. Food was affordable. Family friendly, they have a kids play area and books and crayons to keep then busy.
(4)Lisa T.
Breakfast is delicious here, but I probably won't be back. The wait is always long, service is always slow, and prices are a tad high... Go if it's the morning and you're not hungry.
(3)Joshua M.
The best breakfast joint in Corvallis. Especially wonderful after a long night of drinking. Everything on the menu is fantastic but my personal favorites are the Motherload and the Country Road with their DELICIOUS home fries. The strawberry jam is the best I have ever tasted and the orange juice is a guaranteed cure to any hangover.
(5)Kim E.
My husband and I used to love this place and come here often. Unfortunately, the service has gotten worse and worse while somehow the wait has gotten longer and longer. We hadn't been here in a while and decided to try it again. We were able to score seats at the bar and skip the line. Little did we know that we would have been better off just waiting for a table. It didn't appear that any one person was in charge of the folks sitting at the bar as we sat waiting for over 20 minutes for a server to take our order. My husband finally decided to get up and ask the first employee he came across if we could get someone to come over and take our order. Apparently this was not in this girl's job description as she said that she would let someone know then rolled her eyes and sneered. Wow. We felt like such special customs! To her credit (I guess?) someone did eventually come to take our order. The food was good (hence the two stars), but I just can't imagine going back after such a poor experience. If they worked on their customer service this place could be awesome.
(2)Ej P.
Being my first time there I expected more from what I had heard about it. Walking in it had a list for us to sign in, and then wait to be seated....so we waited and when no one came we went and sat at the bar. There were only a few other people in the place on a tuesday morning and service overall was very subpar, seeming lazy and not really caring. Coffee was very good but after finishing my first cup it took quite a while for the waiter to offer a refill. Food came very quickly but is definitely overly praised. I ordered an garden omlette, it appeared just thrown together and very greasy. The toast was over buttered and soggy. I can only praise the organic coffee.
(2)Crystal J.
Okay, I don't know what the heck is up with these low reviews. This place is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! They have the best customer service you could ask for. I love seeing the same waitresses every time I come in, and they ALWAYS have a smile on their face. They have some of the most delicious and creative dishes you could ask for. There is nothing that can compare to the Hobo Hash, it is full of yummy ingredients and flavor. I do not know what seasoning they put on the home fries (frozen or not, they are just wonderful), but I crave them on a regular basis. The Cowboy Benny is also a great twist on a classic dish. And the strawberry jam, oh the strawberry jam!!!! My mother in laws used to ship it to us in Arizona because they knew how much I loved it. Now we live here in Corvallis and I look forward to many more Sunday breakfast dates here. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone I come across that is looking for a great breakfast experience. Keep up the GREAT work Broken Yolk!!!!! You guys rock my socks!!!!
(5)Vanessa M.
This place was great. The staff was super friendly and the food was pretty good and well priced. It wasn't the best waffle I've ever had, but the atmosphere makes up for it. We were about 6th in line for brunch and it really took very little time to get seated and served. I would absolutely go back.
(4)Lori S.
6 of us. Decent breakfast. They added a gratuity which is fine. We put a $100 bill down for our meal (2 of us) and were shorted $10, which she gave back to us out of her apron. It's all good, we'd come here again.
(4)McKenzie H.
Good french toast, but the hash browns were very bland. The service was friendly for the most part, but the manager was condescending to a customer at the booth next to us. Overall I was not impressed, but they did have excellent bathroom art.
(3)Brandon S.
I'll start with the bad and end with the good. Just like any good restaurant the word is going to move around a town really fast so the wait time is pretty long for a breakfast place, but the wait is totally worth it!!! Words can not describe how yummy the food is here! It's our go to place for breakfast.
(5)Corvallian O.
We went for lunch but they only served the breakfast menu because "they were understaffed" (???). The food was basic, very greasy and spendy too . Hash browns were overcooked as the one time before we ate there. This was the last visit to BY,
(2)Lauri G.
Long wait, so so service, good but not great food (huevos rancheros were good). Kids area is "ish." Won't go back anytime soon. We thought it would be a family place it's a college place.
(3)Mollie B.
Though the wait is often long, the food is worth it. The omelettes are excellent, and I highly suggest the loaded homefries. The service itself isn't the best, but honestly the place is usually so packed it's understandable. The jam is also excellent, overall a great experience, even though it's a bit of a wait!
(4)Jody H.
I sub rice for potato, had veg dish and fresh fruit cup. Ordered hot tea.service was good And fast. Food was warm.
(4)Lizz K.
Broken Yolk keeps getting better and better as the years go by. It's now the only place I can trust in town to get a seat, good service, and awesome food. They have many servers now and they are all attentive. Love this place.
(5)Anna J.
The food was good and the service was excellent. My husband and I love the eggs Benedict.
(4)Tyler H.
Great place! The portions are huge and they are very fast with service. Everything was really good, you should come here for breakfast and you will leave happy and full.
(5)Alan H.
The food is ok. The booths are worn out and should have been replaced a while ago. The omelette had raw vegetables in it, not even cooked a little bit.
(1)Sasha P.
My go-to breakfast place in corvallis is broken yolk. Love their skillets and pancakes. And their jam: to DIE FOR! Definitely a place to take family and friends from out of town to.
(5)RJ C.
While the food is always good, the service can be iffy. We only go there if we have a lot of time.
(3)Linda P.
We had breakfast this morning and it was absolutely delicious! There were 5 in our party. All orders were prompt and accurate! We had a variety of omelets, skillets, eggs, and burritos and all were delicious! Plenty of food! The helpings are large portions and we probably could have shared. Great coffee and very family friendly! We would definitely eat here again!
(5)Kristi T.
I know this place gets super busy on the weekends so knowing this I went on a slow week day and I'm glad I did. It's a cute place and is super yummy but I'm not sure I'd wait in line forever for it. All of my food was good and well cooked. The coffee isn't too great, sort tasted burnt :( The service is nice and the place is clean. Overall really nice.
(4)Kelly M.
Love this place! It's always a bit crowded but it's worth the wait! The slamwich is the best thing on the menu, it's a breakfast sandwich on french toast, I recommend getting the eggs fried instead of scrambled!
(5)B's R.
This place is the most overrated breakfast place in Corvallis. I honestly have no idea why anyone would wait in line. The food is over salted and we've experienced rude servers on the two occasions we tried it (spread over the course of a year). Protip: stay away from the soups. One star. I will never return to this spot.
(1)Pamela M.
This place Rocks!!! I'm a repeat customer. After my first visit, hooked! Great food and staff! Pineapple Mamosa is really amazing!!
(5)Ben B.
Long wait for expensive mediocre food and terrible service. Don't know why this place always has a line, peeps be cray.
(1)Kalong W.
I was really excited to brunch here during a short visit back to Corvallis! I wasn't too hungry and went with the basic egg combo (comes w a choice or hash, home fries, fruit cup and English muffin). The toasted English muffin was perfection!! They are famous for their 'grandma's jam' which is a blend of strawberry jam with lime and other, and you must have it with their home fries. The organic coffee was excellent, service was brilliant and they earn a full five stars.
(5)Justin K.
Overall, a lackluster experience. I got bacon, a scrambled egg, and hash browns for $8. The egg was dry/overcooked, hash browns were flavorless, but bacon was nice and thick. Sparse service, a crowded waiting area, and old/sticky furniture made this a 2 star experience for me.
(2)Quinn D.
I enjoy this place. Whenever I go out to breakfast it's my first choice but I always drive by to see how busy it is and if I want to wait that long. Week days are usually best.
(4)Jessica B.
Broken Yolk is one of the few breakfast spots in Corvallis. The Northwest Vegetarian Skillet is one of my favorite dishes. Serving portions are large but expensive. The wait tends to be long especially Saturday and Sunday morning. If you want to avoid the brunch crowd, plan to get there around 8am.
(3)Christy P.
YUM! We were there on the Sunday after the civil war game, semi-early so it wasn't too busy. The cinnamon roll is quite good, and large enough for four of us to share. There is some kind of "Athens skillet" (can't quite recall) that I shared with one dining partner - we were both not left hungry. Very generous portions, great service and quite tasty. Highly recommend!
(4)Alyssa A.
One of the best, yet most expensive breakfast in town. If you are visiting this place is a must!
(4)Bruce W.
Food was surprisingly good and I had to wait a whole 30 seconds to be seated at 10 am on a Sunday. Food took around 3 games of candy crush. I'd come back for sure.
(5)Scott S.
Love the breakfast! Food is almost always great. One of my favorites anywhere, and I travel all over the Nothwest for business. Service can sometimes be persnickety...frequently, actually. If service was always good they would get 5 stars. Frequently busy at the Broken Yolk and that doesn't help service. But I really do like the food.
(4)Kristin C.
What a great place!! Fresh food, great atmosphere! Service was prompt and my experience here was fantastic!!
(5)Ed E.
I had they Cajun scramble and it was amazing ! Great service, it was just a very enjoyable experience all the way around and would stop by any time I'm in Corvallis !
(5)Mandy N.
Can you say THE best Eggs Benedict????? Golden hash browns. Pepsi products. Mimosa's. Cute decor. Painted tables, neat lighting. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait due to popularity, but overall this breakfast joint is one of the best in town. They make the eggs exactly how you ask every time. The service has gotten much better. A year ago we had a rude waitress, but now they are all friendly and willing to help with anything you need. Warm environment. Cute play area for kids. Nice bar to sit at alone or with friends. Take over night guests to The Broken Yolk for fun and great food.
(4)Becky Y.
They serve huge portions. I couldn't even finish half of my food. Eggs benny are great, and they give you lots of toast and hash browns.
(4)Jessica S.
This place is always packed. I've been here so many times and every experience is different. The service is inconsistent and the food is ok. Nothing really to write home about.
(3)Rory K.
The broken yolk is a corvallis classic, and for good reason. Quite seriously, everything on the menu is delicious. My personal favorite item is the hobo hash. If you order a side of hash browns, get the loaded hash brown option. They are addictingly yummy. On the weekends there can be a bit of a wait for a table, but there are usually seats open at the bar. Plus the servers are always very friendly and come by often to check on your order and refill coffees. Broken Yolk is always an awesome choice for breakfast/brunch!
(5)Jason B.
I should have been tipped off by the fact that there was no breakfast place in Corvallis higher than 3.5 stars...but, it was a Saturday and we decided to stop at BY for breakfast before cruising through the farmer's market. I would give 2.5 stars if I could, but I was so less than impressed that I'm not going to upgrade to 3. First, the positives: ~Wait time of about 3 minutes at 10am on a Saturday. We did just beat a huge rush though and noticed people standing for 10+ minutes, still not bad though. ~They have a nice little kids play fort right in the dining room, so you can ship the kids off to play while you enjoy your coffee and still keep an eye on them. God help the people sitting next to that thing though when some noisy kids are around...yikes. We glanced over the menu with it's nice selection of vegetarian and meat-infused breakfast items. They have some great looking specials, scrambles, hashes, etc to choose from along with the breakfast staples. Now, here's a little side note: I will ALWAYS judge a breakfast place on one of two dishes. The biscuits and gravy and/or the chicken fried steak. Now, negative time: So when our waiter arrived to take our order I asked him "Is the CFS homemade?" to which he replied "No, it comes out of a bag." Strike one. "How about the biscuits? Made in house?" "No, we don't make those here." Strike two. I mean really?!? You're a BREAKFAST PLACE! Are you just cracking eggs??? Maybe those come out of a jug, who knows? So I went with the CFS with the home fries that I've seen raved about on Yelp. The plate shows up,and they're fucking FROZEN potatoes. THOSE AREN'T HOME FRIES!!! Strike three! This town is obviously dying for an actual home style breakfast cafe! The strawberry jam was the best part of the breakfast, and that's pretty sad. Good coffee as well, but had to ask our waiter for refills after he passed our empty cups about 4 times. So, bottom line: Sysco food with sub par service. I will return however and try some of the specials which looked tempting, but now that I know they'll be served over frozen bagged potatoes I'm less than enthusiastic about it.
(2)Rachel S.
Now that they have cheap mimosas, i see no reason to ever go across the street for mediocre breakfast. Things do run a little slow here, but i never feel neglected. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Ive never been disappointed here. Coffee is cafe mam, not my favorite (coffee culture!), but better than pacifica. Highly recommend it. It may be the best breakfast in corvallis.
(5)Beth C.
I took the trek south to visit a great friend. I had originally wanted to go to Tommy's for breaking of the fast but he insisted that I try the breakfast here. We were greeted by a very nice woman in really pretty glasses. She was funny and had a great attitude. Our waitress followed shortly was unable to make a choice between 2 items and she gave me her recommendation. I am happy that I got the Huevos Rancheros. DELICIOUS!! We had some great laughs and really enjoyed it there.
(4)Alicia B.
Breakfast here is always an experience. The atmosphere is great--definitely a place to eat when your parents are in town and want to go out to breakfast. Try and get there as early as possible, though because everyone else in this town has your same idea. Their servers are very friendly and attentive, especially their more full time crew. I'm not one for their hot chocolate (which to me looks more amazing than it actually tastes), but they definitely deliver on their eggs! On weekdays the wait will be fairly short if you wait at all. The weekends are an entirely different story. If you're in a large group I would have one person wait inside for the table and (in winter when it is raining, freezing, generally awful weather) the rest wait in the car. Their waiting area is miniscule and your party of five will take up more than half of it.
(3)Lynnette C.
Enjoyed the breakfast burrito, country road and ms Swiss! All were great and the jam is tasty!
(4)Mark W.
Pros: family friendly (a variety of high chairs, cool play area), friendly staff, interesting menu including vegetarian options, relaxed decor, ample portions. Con: food tends to be low quality (as one reviewer noted, many dishes bought already prepared)
(3)Neil H.
My family and I came to to the Broken Yoke after a weekend family function. We were staying at a local hotel, and there are only so many breakfast buffets you can eat before you feel like you need something a bit more substantial. First, here were the things that I liked about the experience: The place was really kid friendly, which was a good thing for my one-year-old nieces. I also liked the variety of food options on the brunch menu. It was hard to decide what to go for! I ended up having the Northern Veggie Skillet, and that was a really satisfying option. The way they do their potatoes is great. The trouble with the place, and the reason for the three-star review was that not everyone in my family loved their meals. And, most especially, the service was slow. Unfortunately, when you've got a situation like that, it's hard to make up for it with amazing knock-your-socks-off food.
(3)Brett K.
Love the food especially the toast with the strawberry jam but the service always sucks and it takes forever to be seated, order, and get my food. Theyre not very professional either. I work in the restaurant business so i know that the service here is terrible. If the service here was anywhere near decent I'd give this place 5 stars.
(2)Brendon O.
Me and my girlfriend were pleasantly surprised when went here. Judging by the reviews it didnt seem that it would be good. However, the food was great! I had the hobo hash, my girl had the Ms. Swiss, and had chai lattes on the side (coulda used a little more chai). The food was delicious. The only thing was that the waitress accidentally gave my girlfriend hashbrowns instead of home fries. But she made up for it by bringing a side of home fries with no extra charge. The food was definately filling, and we had some leftover home fries.
(4)Jonathan W.

Service is inconsistent, food is okay, depending on what you order. It's very family-frendly and warm, with lots of colorful decorations and a cute little play area for the kiddies. It can be pretty busy in the mornings, and service can run a little slow. One time, the waitress I've had there was polite, charming, and attentive, who brought our drinks promptly and carefully collected our plates when we were finished. Another time, when I was with my family, the server we had was just plain awful. She neglected us multiple times, and rarely refilled our waters. When she did talk to us, it was more like yelling. I was so embarrassed to bring my grandparents, who had flown in so far to see us, to a breakfast place who's service was so rude. I'm not sure if I will want to go back.
(2)Nicole G.
Nothing too special about this place. Its breakfast diner food. My toast was very greasy. My eggs were cold and my cinnamon roll tasted just like butter, ewww. I did love the strawberry jelly on the table in the bottle.
(3)Jasmine S.
I loved coming here but my visit a few days ago was horrible. By horrible I mean the worst service I have ever had I should have walked out. When we were trying to order our food the waiter walked away in the middle of my friend asking a question. We brushed it off like nothing but he never came back. Didn't bring us our food the hostess did. Seriously that is NOT her job! Then I stopped him when he was walking by told him my plate was wrong and he didn't even look at me he just picked it up while I was talking and took it back to the kitchen. I could here him telling the cook that I was b**ching about it and to remake it!! HOW RUDE! I should have again walked out right then!! again the hostess brought my food back and I didn't even finish eating because I lost my apatite with our waiter. No one brought us our check until I stopped another waitress and asked her for it. She said sure but just so you know I'm not your waiter...yeah I know we don't freaking have one! I get the check and it has the waiters name on it. I would not consider him as helping us. Finally while the hostess was paying for my card that guy went back and yelled at the kitchen where is his remake dish and someone else said they already took it...great about 40 min later you remember my food. I left without leaving a tip they deserve no more business until the trashy drugged out looking guy with all the tattoos leaves.
(1)M U.
This is Corvallis' best breakfast. Huge fresh portions with many menu items to choose from. Get there early as the line starts fairly quickly after opening.
(5)Forrest J.
First time there this morning. Excellent eggs Benedict but most impressive was the service.
(5)Suzanne N.
It's very kid friendly with a little play area in the front. The service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. The 2 stars is because of the food. I had the Eggs Benny and my eggs weren't runny. The hash browns were almost a stale crunchy and greasy. My fiancé had the Country Fried Steak. He said it was good. Nothing to write home about. It was better than a Denny's or Shari's. Grandmas Strawberry Jam on an English muffin is quite good though! I would like to try some other places out before coming back here to see if there's something a little better.
(2)Robert B.
The nachos here had better layering than most, and the distribution of toppings was excellent, with moist, tender beef on top. The ratio of stuff to chips was also very satisfying. The rest of the food was meh, but I would come back for those nachos.
(4)Tiffany V.
I haven't written a review for this place yet?!? I must've just imagined writing one for so long I thought I actually did. This is by far my favorite place to get breakfast. They have a great classic breakfast menu at pretty decent prices. The portions are huge but the service is lacking. This is is also soooo inconsistent. I order the cisco kid omelette every time I come here. The first time it was great, no complaints. The second time it was HUGE but was missing the avocado. The third time it was the smallest I'd ever seen it. WTF? Do they have a different chef every day? Its still really good though and filled with fresh ingredients. This place doesn't look that good for lunch though but maybe thats just because I'm more of a breakfast person. Try not to get seated in the back. Their chairs look like left overs from a convention that was held in the Holiday Inn or something. Half the time the chairs are on top of the tables which looks really tacky. Why can't they just leave them down? I really like how bright and sunny this place is otherwise. I've never ordered their coffee but I always see it served in a different mug each time which I think is really cute and homey. They usually have andes mint chocolates by their door but they didn't have any last time I was there. Booo =(
(3)Laila L.
This is one of best breakfast places in Corvallis. The food is consistently good and the quantities are generous. It gets really busy on the weekends. One word of caution, don't sit in the section served by the waiter with the tattoos and bandana. He's surly and inattentive. Otherwise every other wait person there has been wonderful.
(4)Lemon C.
Huge Mocha and Hot cocoa
(4)Emily N.
The food was good, but pretty basic breakfast food. I can't really evaluate them fully, since none of us got their house specials. However, we were happy with the food we did get, and the atmosphere was very welcoming!
(4)Lydia S.
Delicious. Their strawberry jam is to die for. Usually a long wait, but you have to give them a pass because they're the only great place for a hearty breakfast in town. Lots of places to get pastries, ect. but they beat their competition on true breakfast. The waffles and skillets are great. A definite place to try if you have never gone! Bring a jacket, I am ALWAYS freezing here!
(5)Heather P.
BEST PLACE FOR BREAKFAST. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The people are always friendly, and you feel like you're right at home. My biggest tip is to call in your order and take it home. There have been so many times I have cruised in at their busiest breakfast mornings when people are starving, shivering, and waiting around for a HIGHLY coveted table, picked up my order and stuffed my face at home!!! Leave a good tip. These people work hard and deserve it.
(5)Frankie B.
The family stopped in for breakfast while dropping our freshman off to begin her college career. First thing we noticed is that the pre-built menu combinations give you plenty of options. Finally...a breakfast place that doesn't make you order a second breakfast if you want French Toast with your Bacon & Eggs! Service was quick and our egg-yolk tattooed server was super friendly. Food was really good...OJ was fresh squeezed. Nothing fancy ...just a really good straightforward breakfast...which is what we were looking for. Our new breakfast spot for the next 4 years.
(4)Sherrie V.
I can't say much nice about this place. The food is good. But - not fond of the politics, the hours, the prices, or the service. Stopped going.
(2)Ariel R.
Great food, great presentation. Staff is nice and friendly. I love this place....if we ever get seats. It should be noted, they have the smallest waiting room on the planet. I like the idea of the kids area, but I never see kids using it. The huge play structure in the middle of a busy restaurant seems weird. Why not add some more seats, so you don't have 10 people standing OUTSIDE while they wait for a seat? Give something for the kids to do at their tables. Also - be cautious about their menu. Nearly 3 dollars for a generic brand tea and no free refills on coffee.
(4)Skip D.
Bad service. The waiters just aren't very friendly and walk so slow it's like they have no purpose and none of them want to be there. Then they made us pay an automatic 18% gratuity for service that didn't even deserve a penny. After we finished our meal we waited 40 minutes for our bill... Terrible.

I ordered Hobo hash. It was really good. Everything was cooked good. People are right about the jam. Its good because it's a little bit runny. The place is nice. Almost everything here is decorated. All of the countertops and tables have pictures lamenated. There are clusters of posters and pictures of art all over the walls.

In spite of some negative reviews, I took my family here so we could soak up some of Corvallis' downtown. Got to the restaurant at a very busy packed time. Our wait however was less than 10 minutes. Coffee was great tasting and we were not charged for refills. Pancakes, hashbrowns, home fries were all very good. The fried eggs were perfect and farm fresh. I really liked the cornbeef hash, yet I was disappointed that is was not what I know hash to look and taste like. A bit too chunky and too much thyme for what I was wanting, but good nonetheless. It was enjoyable.

A good local breakfast spot in Corvallis that I really want to come back again for. Keep in mind that you may have to wait on the weekend but, it will be worth it. I had the Slamwhich which is just French Toast bread breakfast sandwich which was really filling. However the stars of the place are the crunchy home fries and house jam which I highly recommend getting an extra side of toast for. The service is nice and speedy with good prices. The friends I went with were OSU Alumni and said it is the best breakfast spot in town and I believe it.

The food is so good here, I could come here any time of day, that they are open. The Chai Tea Latte is obviously a custom blend, and out dices their coffee any day. The Chicken Fried Steak comes with 2, and is so big, it comes on 2 plates, so a good choice if you want to split a breakfast. Awesome decor and wait staff.

After a recent Dr. Appointment, it was time to grab some breakfast and this cafe was on the radar. Never had been here before, so I didn't know what to expect. Lucked out and got parking right in front. The line was a bit long, but after about 15 minutes, we were seated. I ordered "everything but the kitchen sink", and maria ordered "the double dipper". Both of the dishes were excellent, tasty, plentiful and the coffee was great. The staff were great even though they were juggling the large influx of customers. As mentioned in another review, the jam was very, very good. Well, without question, I will be back to sample more of the breakfast menu as well as lunch! I was a happy man after eating here!!

I am a regular customer and typically love coming here, I am a huge fan of the Hobo Hash and I was excited today for it. Until it took a turn for the worst... My hobo hash comes out and I began eating until I noticed a nice little black hair that did not belong to me nesting gently upon one of my home fries, the little guy startled me so bad that I lost my appetite and left a good amount of my hobo to be consumed by the trash. I am unsure when the next time I will be back because it was a traumatic experience, so for the time being, Broken Yolk let this loyal customer get away.

I have no idea why this place has so few reviews because it has been there since 2007 and it was packed on a Tuesday morning! This is a little jewel. The coffee was amazing, the portions are huge, the service was great and the food was delicious!! We will definitely return for breakfast. Which is served all day. We had the hobo hash and the 3rd street something both were served with the home fries and toast. The home fries are certainly the way to go here as they are crispy. Yummy!!!

Breakfast place where my step daughter lives. She made the suggestion and took a chance. Big ole burly woman took our name all hot and sweaty and decided to yell and point and some young girl with tattoo's took us to are table. I thought we didn't have to wait very long, so don't gripe. Now to the breakfast food, I thought the portions were big and very tasty. I say go and don't cook at home and enjoy the college students and especially the girls, west coast dressed, no bras. I rate the food four stars.

The food is five stars. The portions are generous. It's the front of house that is bad. Slow service, poor sanitation. The menu is overpriced so inspect it carefully before buying. The waiters walk around giving people refills of coffee, little do the patrons realize that second cup comes with an even heftier price tag. I won't be back because of the deceitful practices and poor sanitation. The food is great though.

The cleanliness and upscale atmosphere was impressive for this breakfast joint, and the dinosaur table we sat at was equally awesome. The prices were a little high for breakfast, although there were a lot of options. I would've liked a little more traditional breakfast options, ie basic eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. But the Santa-fe? skillet I got was not bad, especially the chorizo and potatoes. Overall, this is probably one of the cleanest, nicest breakfast places around, let alone in Corvallis, and there was a kid play place that probably would've been fun 20 years ago.

If there's a line out the door, something must be right inside. In a true college town like Corvallis, I can definitely see where this would be the spot to go after a long night of partying. There was a large breakfast menu and it appeared to have many tasty choices. I went with the Cajun Skillet and it did not disappoint. It was busy the day we went so it took a little long to get our food. But the people were cool and I'd definitely go back.

Ill go on a limb and call this the best breakfast in town. Everything I've had here has been very tasty and came in big breakfast portions. The grandmas's jam is to die for.

This place is horribly inconsistent and I think that is why it gets average reviews. I have eaten here twice now and both times were like night and day. The first time was great. The food was excellent as was the service, and the second time the service was absolutely horrible as was the food. I am kind of scared to give it a third shot. I had the combo breakfast both times which included biscuits and gravy, eggs, home fries, toast, and bacon and link sausage. My fiancee had the waffle and eggs both times as well so we could compare. Everything was great the first time and this gave us hope for a decent breakfast place close to where we live. The second time the service was absolutely horrible with the server caring more about stuffing her face and checking her phone than actually taking care of her tables. Out of the three tables she had, two had to walk up to get their checks, and we just sat back and waited to see how long it would take. The waffle and biscuits were tough as hell the second time seeming like they were old. I also can't pay $1.95 for a 12oz can of soda. That is ridiculous. Not sure we will eat here again. After such a wonderful showing the first time, it's hard to take heartache of an absolutely horrible experience again.

Wished they would have served Bloody Marie's when we visited, but still enjoyed the food... The back room is a little tight, so be ready to hear a lot of hungover "party" stories from the local college kids.

We stopped in on a Saturday morning for some much-needed breakfast and we weren't disappointed. The wait wasn't too bad and the service was alright by me. I had the chicken-fried steak and my gf had the Eggs Benny. Both were delicious! I'm kind of obsessed with CFS and their version was tasty with a nice crispy, flavorful crust and the gravy had a lot of sausage chunks in it. I was happy and stuffed. Oh, and their coffee is surprisingly good. It was funny to see a lot of hung over college kids grubbin' in the joint.

I went there shortly after it opened and the service was terrible. My mom was with me and she has never gone back. I decided to try again a few weeks later and the service had not improved at all. I have not been back since. Kristi K.

Great food; extremely slow service.

I love this place! My fiance and I just moved to Corvallis, and we go here every Sunday for breakfast. The food is so hearty and perfect. My favorite is the Pigs in a Blanket..three sausages wrapped in three individual pancakes. Nom nom nom. The man always gets a different scramble, and he's always full and happy after it. They come in a bowl of goodies and always have home fries on top. Try their Broken Mocha...half coffee, half mocha, and plenty of whipped cream :) They are very busy on the weekend, so the earlier the better. We normally wait around 15 minutes for a table. But so worth it!

Two of Five Stars, but only for comic relief. I'm a forgiving person. To have enjoyed The Broken Yolk experience, one fraught with staff members yelling near the top of their lungs, a fair amount of Northwest grunge and nearly all of the fundamentals of restaurant stewardship tossed aside, one would have to be, very, very forgiving. So, yes, when it comes to restaurants, I am very forgiving. To be fair, the restaurant was short staffed, so short that they closed an entire section. One of the only two waitresses, who also appeared to be the boss/chief-yeller, made the short-staffed situation known to every table very loudly so that every table heard each desperate apology. I suppose I heard the apology 15 or 20 times in the hour and a half it took to get and, quickly, consume my two pancakes (underdone) and two eggs. Yep, an hour and a half. I timed it. Plus, I got the wrong pancakes. The hour-and-a-half time was unique to me. In what would have been to most other patrons, disquieting, I watched, amidst the running and banging and frantic panic, like sitting in the middle of an overcrowded and lively fish tank, six different tables served before me who were seated after me (for this delay I was given free coffee by my apparently extremely stoned or extremely hung-over or perhaps extremely bemused and equally fascinated waitress). Whichever her condition, she moved slowly, like a happy, oblivious stop-motion cartoon character pasted into a PBS time-lapse film--picture an Eric Cartman cameo in PBS's Journey to Planet Earth. My bemusement at the unfolding food service wreck was not shared by my one-year-old son. Luckily the Broken Yolk has a small children's play area and though Henry is not always smitten with adults' conceptions of playable environs, he loved the Broken Yolk's take and played happily the entire time. Otherwise, and I'd have to have left, which I considered doing a few times. The food... It looked pretty good at other tables and I would return to the restaurant again to give it a try but on this day my eggs were Cold On Arrival (C.O.A.) and my pancakes were both blueberry--not what i ordered and a buck extra--and pasty white, underdone, almost wet dough. Probably they deserve zero stars for this performance. But I'm forgiving. And like I mentioned, I would go back. We all have bad days. But if you step in the door and the boss/chiefyeller/waitress with a Hawaii tattoo on her calf is shouting apologies and the other waitress floats by in what looks like a chemically induced somnambulant coma, turn about quickly and run. bullhornjournal.com

We arrived at around 9:20. And we were skipped on the list twice. We didn't get our seats until 10. And when we were seated we didn't even get menus until the bus boy came by and we had to ask. The food here is good. It wasn't great. We were served food that I could've made at home. The pancakes tasted like instant mixed pancakes. Overall the place was satisfactory at the most

We waited in line not knowing you had to sign yourself in the hostess was very disorganized and didn't pay attention she asked one group if they wanted to sit at the bar and they said no but she didn't ask any other groups we waited fifteen more minutes and two ladies wAlked in and said to her we don't mind the bar so she sat them before asking anyone else when they had just walked in finally my husband asked her if we could sit at the two empty places at the bar she asked where are you on the list which was strange as she had not asked the two women who just walked in she then told us to go sit there when we got there two women were folding napkins there and the younger one asked us if we could wait we were invading their napkin folding space I was done by then and we left very disorganized

I'm not really a morning person. I really shouldn't order before I've had my coffee. So presented with a great menu and a large omelet selection, I ordered... A basic breakfast with eggs, bacon and hasbrowns. It was fine, but I was disappointed with myself for not trying sometihng else. My boyfriend's Hobo Hash with home fries was much better than my breakfast. Our friend got the Athens skillet with red pepper, artichoke, kalamata olives and capers was also good, but I agreed that the eggs should have been mixed in rather than on the side. The decor is cute and the service is pretty decent. This is the type of place I would have brought my parents to when they came to visit me in school. We didn't even have to wait for a table during our visit. Prices run in the $8-$10 range. I told our friend we went here and only thought it was okay. He said, "why the hell didn't you get the breakfast burrito?" Why indeed.

Oh that squeezy bottle of strawberry heaven, I miss it!! We had an awesome breakfast here, our waitress was super nice, I was also stealing bites from my Sister's plate and their orders were great as well. Solid breakfast spot!
(5)Dana D.
DELICIOUS food. They have a pretty large menu and everything I've ever ordered has been perfect. If you are looking to grab breakfast while in Corvallis, I highly would recommend The Broken Yolk.
(5)Shannon P.
Best fries ever!!! The California wrap was excellent too. Big portions...I couldn't finish even though I tried, hard. Initially it was a bit noisy because of the kids playing, but once they got their food it was more peaceful. Quirky place that's perfect for a college town.

I have dined at Broken Yolk several times (10+) in the last three months and generally enjoyed the experience. The restaurant boasts an extensive breakfast/brunch menu, my favourites being the slamwich (egg, cheese, bacon sandwiched between french toast, served with maple syrup) and the bad boy breakfast burrito - both very tasty. The ambiance is OK (though a bit noisy as this place is usually quite busy), bathrooms are tidy, and the decor simple yet representative of local Corvallis charm. Despite my (and many others') praise for this establishment, I often feel forgotten when sitting at the bar. My average rating for the Broken Yolk reflects my dissatisfaction with the customer service.

(Again, this place is not affiliated with San Diego's Broken Yolk Cafe, shown on Man v. Food) I popped in for a quick takeout order, seeking a good breakfast. One smiling, enthusiastic female server greeted me, almost like I was the coolest family member on the planet. I wanted to look around to make sure she was actually talking to me and not some much cooler person... The Greek omelet ($9.50) was on my agenda this time. Three or four eggs, packed with artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, capers, roasted red peppers, garlic, feta cheese, and spinach. I got home fries and wheat toast. The omelet was pretty good, although I question whether it really was 3-4 eggs. Such a cute little guy, I tell ya. Perfect for even a semi-full panda to just completely destroy. Coulda eaten a couple more of those rather easily if I had an empty stomach. The brininess of the artichoke hearts and olives came through. The feta added a bunch of salty flare. But the home fries looked like some prepackaged deal, so uniformly brown and cubed. Whatever happened to large real potato chunks, browned up on the flattop? All those blackened or really toasty spots on the exterior, with the pillowy soft insides? What I received seriously should be reserved, at best, to school cafeterias. It's pretty much a dang foodie violation to me. I just hope that's also not the case with the hash browns.... The wheat bread was toasted and buttered. Yet, in the styrofoam container (yup, styrofoam), I'm sure the heat emanating from the omelet caused the toast to lose that toasty crunch. I'll take the blame there. I should have asked for some of that Grandma's homemade jam. People seem to rave about it to no end. Bad panda...no biscuit! People with huge appetites should take a gander at "The Broken Yolk" omelet, which has eight eggs, three types of cheeses, and three types of meat. Yup, bacon is in there. It should stuff many individuals and bring you that much closer to a heart attack. Brilliant! Despite top-notch professionalism from a great server, the food failed to leave a very strong positive impression on me. I'll call this one an average experience.

Pretty good food! We stopped by here while waiting for a pet to be examined at the OSU vet hospital. We hadn't had breakfast or lunch by 2pm, so we stopped here for brunch. Reviews are mixed, which was our experience as well. Nachos: Outstanding. Good balance of cheese, beans and other topic, with surprisingly succulent, flavorful steak bites. Pineapple teriyaki bowl with crispy chicken: Good freshly fried chicken and pieces of fresh pineapple. The teriyaki sauce was underwhelming though, as was the rice which was slightly overcooked and tasted watery. HUGE bowl though, with about twice as much rice as I expected. Chicken strips and fries: Fries seemed a little more starchy than normal, but my husband thought they were good. This came with the same freshly fried chicken strip, which were tender and flavorful. Service was fine, polite, maybe a little bit awkward but quick. Not sure if I'd go back here since I go to Corvallis so rarely and would probably rather go somewhere else, but if I lived in Corvallis I'd go back and try more of their food!

Food and initial service were great, but it took a while to pay my tab which was frustrating. I had breakfast with a friend before work and when I tried to pay my $12.45 bill with a $20, I was told I'd have to wait 15 minutes until the bank opened because the waitress didn't have enough money to give me change. Other than that little glitch, I was very pleased and will go back again.
(3)Nick C.
Service was awful. Dude with the fried egg tattoo was a d-bag... Food was not very good. Seemed like if you weren't a college student that wore skinny jeans and a fedora no one would pay attention to you... F this place

I went there and the service sucks. I thought customers are the one that leave a tip so when your wait person is rude then they get zero tips. I rather go across the street to Sunnyside

If you're looking for a breakfast place in Corvallis, Broken Yoke is the place to go. They've got Grandma's strawberry freezer jam on the table. Need I say more? The atmosphere at Broken Yoke is fun and fresh. It's unique and driven with personality. Anyone can fit in here and you'll notice while you're here that anyone does fit in. The food is fabulous. I'm an omelette girl so I usually opt for that portion of the menu. The Cisco kid and the Western omelette are pretty good. You also may choose the side you want to go with your meal: hashbrowns, homestyle potatoes, cottage cheese, or fruit. They give you the choices so no matter what, you'll enjoy your dining experience. I love the Broken Yoke and I'm pretty sure most breakfast food people will love it as well.

Recommended by a local. Good choice. Service was a little slow but the food was excellent. If you're looking for a great local place to eat, I recommend this place. We were told there is a line to eat but we were able to get right in around 10ish. So if your willing to wait out the early breakfast hours you can get right in.

As others have stated, there aren't many breakfast places in Corvallis. This one was rated 3 stars, and that seems to be about right. The food is prepared well, but the food sources...well, the one thing that struck me odd was the "home fries", which are basically frozed bagged potato cubes. Granted, they cooked them well, but these were from a bag, and you could tell. I have had the eggs over easy and scrambled here, and both were done well. The ham seemed pretty decent, and the hobo hash was fine. However, nothing really stood out, and I would owe it more to the food source rather than the cooks ability. If the owner/chef got some fresh local sources for all of their foods, the execution could lead to some really great stuff. Out of the few times that I have been there, the service has been erratic. I think that is going to be a bit normal for any morning establishment in Corvallis. However, everyone there at every time I have been there has been super friendly, albeit sometimes a bit flakey. I can let that go, though. I would eat here again, and I really wish I could give 3.5 stars. That is really what this place would get from me.
(3)Kevin S.
Great breakfast place, long wait on sunday noon For groups. Not the best place to go alone though, last time i came alone they kind of get ignored, 1 star knocked for that. I like their hobo hash or the everything but the kitchen sink skillet. Country fried stick is just okay but far from bad ....
(4)Danette G.
We were seated right away, excellent, friendly service. Food was great, Spanish omelette & huevos rancheros. Will definitely be back!
