This was a bar but there is outside seating for kids. We ate here by recommendation of the locals. I thought the service was excellent and the food was good. I liked the soup, nice and creamy. Sandwiches were good and the onion rings were great. A little greasy but in a good was. Plenty to eat and the prices were fair. We were able to fit and visit for a long time as there wasn't too much business. Kind of a hidden treasure. I'd eat there again.

I thought the server/bartender? Was very abrupt and rude we left ask if they had breakfast very abrupt NO. Also explained how she couldn't turn up volume on TV which is fine cuz they had 49er game on but it was her attitude did not like

NOT family friendly or non local friendly. Do not go here unless you are a local resident or know people who work here. According to the mgr Jessica(?) ,brown shoulder length hair and showing her pregnancy belly, it is customary to wait 3 hours for your order. She suggests feeding your children before coming to dinner here, if you do not it is your bad parenting. Please keep this in mind when/if you bring your family here for dinner. You will wait over an hour for your meal and will have to flag them down if you want a refill on your drinks. If you bother them asking about the status of your order they will very rudely let you know that there is nothing they can do and that they are backed up. Even when there are empty tables in the restaurant and no one waiting to be seated. However, if you are a local and they like you, your food and drinks will be served promptly with friendly service. I do not recommend this restaurant as I am not used to eating before I go to a restaurant to eat. They are very rude here and unfriendly.

Good Food!

Clam chowder and prime rib dinner absolutely delicious. Lots of TV screens, plenty of tables and a pool table. Friendly staff and good service, cocktails are good with a nice menu of choices. Decor is comfortable and typical of a restaurant. Enjoyed our visit and will definitely come again.

We came in for drinks and appetizers only. Ordered the spinach dip-ok, zucchini-awesome, clam strips-so good, and onion rings-beer battered and fried perfect. Vodka-crans were good and we left full and happy!

ok so went to a restaurant this last weekend and our waitress didn't know what drink was rum n coke or captain so she took a sip of it from the glass (yes the edge of the glass) then my fish was cold and the waiter stuck his finger in it at my table too see if it was! what the F, really? Who does that? I think it may be against OLCC policy to do that as well as against many health codes! Food was okay not great I will never go to this place if they are that open with everything i wonder what happens behind closed doors...

The soup is always fantastic! The house salad is a meal in itself. The wait staff works hard and the food always comes out quickly. Good food, good price and good atmosphere in pacific city.

I like what the new owners have done with the place! They have great food and drinks. I will for sure go back. We sat at the bar for a bit and then grabbed a table on the upper level above the bar, both very comfortable. The outside deck area is really nice too and has a nice view of the river. Did I mention this place is fun? Pool tables and TV

Consider me an optimist. The first time I came here, I ordered the fish and chips and came away thinking that I'd probably just tried it on an off night. The fish was mediocre and the fries were soft and lukewarm. There was a football game on, thus the place was packed. Maybe that explained it? So, the second time I ordered the same thing. And got the same result. The third time... I know, I know, now it's really just my own problem for assuming that the result will be different, but yet again, the fries were lukewarm and soft and this time, the fish wasn't even hot. So, finally, the fourth time, I made myself order something different. This time I got a burger. With tots instead of fries. But honestly, the burger was pretty mediocre and the tots were, just like the fries, undercooked and soft. My wife, who normally loves tots, tried one and spit half out. "Not worth the calories" she said. But the thing is, I like this place. I want the food to be good here. I want this relationship to work. The service is great and this is a locally owned place where you can bring your family and watch sports on tv. This is the only place in Pacific City where I can watch a football game on tv and bring my kids. That said, the food's exceptionally mediocre. There's not really an excuse for having bad french fries, right? Please, please, please, Oar House. I write this not to whine, but to plead with you to step up and help save our relationship. Otherwise I might just have to ditch my children and eat at the Sportsman's Bar and Grill a block down the road. My kids aren't welcome there, but the food's great. My children are begging you, please fix the french fries. Turn the temperature of the oil up and cook the food until it's both hot and crispy.

Come for the CHOWDER!!!! Thank you Oar House for saving our day! Waited a long time at the Pelican Brewery (they get 1 star) and a local suggested we try your place. Not the same tourist location on the beach, but you knew that. Your location is very homey and local. Service was some of the best we had while on vacation! Clam chowder was the best my companion and I have ever had!!! Wish I could make it like that at home! I loved my fish and chips, fresh salad, son loved his roast beef sandwich with au jour. Big onion rings. Great beers! Superb prices! Excellent service!

This is one of my favorite aces in PC. Their chili is alway great. Other than the chili I feel all the other food is fried or hamburgers, but it is a bar so you know what to expect. A bar that allows kids and is family friendly. Staff is always friendly and they have a decent bar, video poker and keno. This ace so has windows which makes it bright, and lots of TV's to watch football or other sports.

I love a good dive bar! We always come here when we are visiting Pacific City. Great low key bar, karaoke, pool, and fried food.

This was a nice restaurant. The decor was very fitting and it was nice to sit by the windows overlooking the river. Service was friendly, prices were good and the food was good.

After reading the following reviews I am wondering if we even went to the same restaurant..sadly we did. In fact it feels strange calling this place a restaurant because it is really nothing more than a dive bar. Our service was slow and rude. The waitress never even made eye contact with us when we were talking to her. The chowder was worse than canned chowder and made me laugh because the menu boasts that you will have not problem finding clams and we found about 1.5 clams. It was thin and watery. My side salad was clearly from a bag and the croutons were stale and sticky. The fries on my boyfriends fish and fries were dark and old and stale like they had been sitting out for hours. Its too bad the wait at the Brewery was over and hour but now I know why. Its probably the only legitimate place to eat in this town.

Sat at the bar for a late lunch. The bartender acknowledged us immediately and said she would be back in a moment; however, 10 minutes later she was still working on other tables. Eventually, perhaps 20 minutes later, she approached us and asked if we would like a drink. Duh...we are sitting at a bar! Anyway, the service remained slow until after we were served our meals and then for some reason we were getting stellar service. Maybe even overkill. My pulled pork sandwich was excellent and my husbands burger was very good.

Our first trip to Pacific City, was disapointed with our dinner the night before at the Pelican Pub so we looked around for a different lunch spot the next day. We shared the Gobbler sandwich and an appetizer. The food was good and prices were appropriate. Good pub location without the "bar" atmosphere.

My husband and I try to steer clear of places that aren't locally owned (meaning owned by Californians that are trying to commercialize Pacific City.) Okay, honestly I'm not "allowed" to step foot in a place that is not locally owned or that we know is for sure owned by out-of-staters. ;) We enjoy the parts of Pacific City that give us that small town feel that we love so much when we stay at our Cabin. The Oar House is one of the "newer" restaurants in town and we've been there twice, now. Both times we ordered the same thing. I ordered the fish and chips and my husband ordered a burger. The food is just average. If you are on a diet, they don't have fat free dressing even though a grocery store is literally 100 yards away (my mother-in-law has been there three times and asked for it with no luck.) The staff is friendly, but not all that knowledgable about their menu items - at least not the staff we have encountered as of yet. It's a nice looking, comfortable place on the inside. I think I remember a pool table the first time we went, but we didn't sit in sight of it this time - and there is a music player to pay to hear songs. I'm sure we'll be back again, but it's just a mediocre place. No real complaints.

We arrived to a wonderful greeting and great atmosphere. Two chicken tacos and cold bear for $4....very nice! We be back tonight for karaoke and celebrate my birthday. ..65!!

Stopped in on a recent visit to PC. Prolly won't be stopping in again anytime soon, even when I'm in the area. Ordered the pan fried oysters for dinner. First off, considering the price they really skimped on the portions. Then, they weren't prepared well at all. The breading/coating was between mushy and slimy and falling off the oysters. It wasn't crunchy at all. At least they weren't totally fried to a crisp and rubber bands. But, I expect better seafood when I go to the coast. The service was close to terrible. My waitress was extremely slow in taking my order eventhough it was the middle of the week and the place wasn't that busy. And she hardly ever came back to refill my iced tea. Like I said, I prolly won't be back.

One of the best 3 places in Pacific City to escape the bar environment and have dinner with the fam. Awesome burgers, green salads and big TV's if the ball games are on!

This place has a catchy name and a very nice atmosphere. Their food is underwhelming though. It is pretty tasteless. We find ourselves going here when one of our first restaurant choices is closed and each time we are sorry we went. I've had the blackened chicken sandwich, which is far from spicey as you would expect. I've also had the Philly cheesesteak which was bland and had a processed cheese slice on it. Don't we live near Tillamook? Better than Fat Freddies though.

Um, they charged us $9.50 for a dirty martini. Sorry, I didn't realize this was a beachside resort in Maui. Luckily I'm vegan so didn't eat anything (nothing available). And I thought the Pelican was overpriced, sheesh!

There is no way I would ever go back to this bar unless under new ownership. Drinks are watery food is plain. No tillamook cheese. No kind service. Closes at midnight even when packed. Just plain bad. Snobby owner and employees who are "locals" because they have lived here 5 whole years!! Your best bet is to go to the store get a six pack and a pound of hamburger and go to the beach and save your self the money, let down, and the frequent bathroom visits. The sportsmen bar I personally don't like but this place makes it look 5 star!

The humor of the name didn't occur to us until raving to fellow travelers to try out the Oar House. They said, "You ate where?!" *smile* We found the service friendly and welcoming. The food quality was generally quite good. The burger my son got was a touch dry but very good size for the price. Our Good Cod sandwiches really scrumptious. The fish (of the fish and chips plate) was very fresh-tasting, juicy and flakey with a great portion for the price. They were flexible to make a kid-sized portion even though not on the menu. It's great you can get (delicious) onion rings instead of fries for no up charge. The recommended microbrew for my mood (a malty amber Dechutes Brewery brew though I can't remember the name) served on draught was only $3 for a pint. It satisfied what I was craving. The Oar House was family friendly; even if we were ferried off to one corner of the place it still worked fine. The locale isn't as scenic as some choices in Pacific City and the homemade kettle chips were cooked too dark and thus tasted a little burned. Other than that this is a four-star place strongly working itself to a five-star choice for this style of sports bar/restaurant. Yet I'm awarding five stars given the other places we tried in Pacific City were soundly average (Grateful Bread) or far below (Fat Freddy's).

We vacation in Pacific City every year and have seen many businesses come and go at this location. I hope this one stays around for a long time. The menu sounds like standard American fare: burgers, fish, ribs etc. Trust me, it's not standard, It has that something extra - freshness and flavor - that puts it over the top. I had a fish sandwich with freshly-made potato chips that was amazing...the best I ever ate. The BLT and burgers consumed by the rest of the family were equally memorable. Since the demise of the late lamented River Place deli, the Oar House is is now my favorite lunch place in PC, without question.

Okay! Maybe it's closer to a 3.63 rating, but when they boyz are down to the coast for a prolonged visit it doesn't hurt to go a bit wild. Since we are waayyyyyy past the age where ANYone would have to lock up their daughters, we look for our "freak" where we can. The name of this joint is vaguely BAD sounding so off we go. The place is bright, cheery, friendly too! The fish and chips (cod I think) were excellent, the fish tacos not so good. The burger reportedly good but consumed so fast that: 1) I wasn't offered a bite, 2) who can judge quality when food is eaten like you're a hungry dog! All in all a fine place, and as loud as us oldtimers got ... huh? What was that you said? Ohhhhh, we were just talking loud so we could hear one another? Uh huh. The place is filled with LOCALS. It is decidedly un-hip, but the food is better than Pelican Pub, and the service much better. Goin' back. Yesshir!
