Great little place in Canby right of the highway. The service was quick and many people helped out table. We ordered the appetizer of garlic mushrooms and they were delicious. Our party ordered the BLTA, Chicken sandwich and the roast beef sandwich all were cooked great. We were seated in a timely manner as well. Restaurant was clean and has a sports theme atmosphere. I'll be back. -- comment to owner -- I've heard about this place over and over again from people and I finally just made my way over from OC. Sounds like you might be opening one up here! That true?

Keep it to breakfast here. Dinner is hit or miss. Recently got a prime rib "medium-rare", Not a touch of pink on it. Tough dry meat. This left me with the options of send it back to get a replacement that had been dropped on the floor, eat leather steak, or get a dimmer elsewhere.. The only reasonable option was to eat dinner elsewhere. On a different note, come here for breakfast. It is significantly more edible than the prime rib was.

We enjoyed the food - busy, clean, the menu has a lot of options and the food... very tasty. We appreciated the staff's attention to make sure we had what we needed. I had a burger and it was pretty good. Definately a place I'll go back to.

We LOVE that Canby has a great place for food and service! We wish the bar was the size of the restaurant because it is always full. You still get great service in the dining area, but the bar is more fun! The food is always fabulous AND consistent. The service by the entire staff is stellar no matter who you have or where you are sitting. We eat there at least once a week and get take out. The food is of large portions, and you feel like you are not rushed to eat. Other restaurants should take note. This is how it's done!

I give this place ,two stars. The customer service. is ok . The food is greasy. I Ordered brisket it was greasy, I don't understand why. So I sent it back, and ordered a jalapeno burger, my husband ordered enchiladas. He said wasn't good. I order a Bloody Mary .it was ok. It's sports bar if you just want to sit and have a few drinks don't expect good food . For a small-town ,it's ok. Just don't get your hopes up,for good food. especially if you're from a bigger city,Like Portland.

Came in to try out the new sports bar in Canby and was very pleased! They were very busy, but the staff was friendly, energetic and accommodating. My husband had the ribs and they were tender and the flavor was amazing. I would definately recommend the Backstop!

This restaurant just opened so I knew going in they would have some issues to sort out. A few other restaurants have died at this location so I was hoping something new and exciting would finally grace our small town. For some reason Canby just cannot get a quality sit down restaurant. What gives? Backstop is your standard sports bar restaurant. Multiple TV's everywhere, open floor plan and nothing that distinguishes this place from any other sports bar. Wait staff were curteous but a little frazzled as you would expect from a new startup. Drinks took forever to come out and my beer bottle was broken at the top. Again I will put this down to new restaurant syndrome. They actually have a very nice and concise menu. I heard they were going to add alot more items which made me wary as from my experience restaurants that offer a large menu offer mediocre fare at best. I ordered the blue cheese / buffalo sauce burger cooked medium. Our food took along time to come and my burger was only luke warm when it arrived. The bun was excellent and the fries were quite good. The portion of fries was small as I am used to having my plate overflow with them at other restuarants. The patty was very thin, unseasoned, and way way overcooked. Tasted like a frozen patty that had been squashed flat when cooked thus expelling any juices it had left. The grey patty just crumbled and made the entire burger very dry to eat. It was a shame as the blue cheese and buffalo sauce went well together. The wifey ordered a pasta dish and the sauce tasted like it was out of a can. Unfortunately Canby misses out again on a great restaurant opportunity. Why someone cannot open a place using fresh local ingredients is beyond me. For half the price I can go grab a far superior and fresh, juicy burger at 5 Guys. Keep the menu simple and fresh guys...how hard can it be?

Five of us, and everyone ordered something different. Didn't bother the wait staff. Orders came out quickly and hot. Not a noisy place, at least on a late Saturday afternoon. The locals I was with all stated they would be back. For a small community, this is a great place to eat and enjoy each others company.

Great place! I now know where I will be on Sundays to watch my favorite football team. Second visit here and I have had the ribs, chocolate cake, pork sliders and the burrito. All very good! Thanks for opening in Canby!

We've gone here 3 times now and will continue to come back. As others have said, Canby is pretty short on good food spots so we were really happy with this find. Love the atmosphere and the bar is perfect for watching games. We couldn't recommend it more highly!

We came back to see what the new owners had done to the location, and we love it! Way better menu selection, fast service and customer orientated waitresses and waiters. Finally a place in Canby that offers it all! Love the new decor, by the way. We will certainly be back as the food was superb.

This is a sports bar with lots of big televisions. Very typical but one of the nicer places in Canby. The food is pretty typical. Nothing unusual. The servers are friendly and efficient and the other customers are fun.

Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Great food with a nice presentation. Great service even though short staffed for the morning. I got the Catalina omelette which was great! Perfect portion size.

UPDATE: I stopped back by today to see if my first visit was a fluke. There was again nobody out front to greet any patrons but it looked as though there was only one person working and it sounded as though she may have been busy in the back. I was seated much quicker and ordered the Asian salad again, for consistency, and dined in instead of take out. The waitress was nice. My food came out exactly as I expected - MUCH better than my original order. The chicken was fresh and even had a bit of a char on the edges, which I loved. Everything came on the salad as noted on the menu. My drink did not go empty and the waitress even offered me a to go cup to take my iced tea. I took the remains of my salad back to my office and snacked on it for the afternoon. Much more impressed and will definitely be back to try new menu items!

Good place for lunch or drinks. Ken the owner really does care about your experience. Good selection of beer on tap and good drink menu. Happy hour is where its at. Show up before 5:00 if you want a table in the bar. Lots of sports on the TV and you got to love that.

I have only been in the bar to eat and have a beverage and have always been treated well and like the food. Now for the however, my wife were in there on a Saturday morning and ordered breakfast. The hash browns were under cooked and we had asked them to be crisp, the omelets were just ok and what's up with only one piece of toast coming with your order. We will still come back just not for breakfast here.

Love the variety of choices and everything I have had to date has been wonderful! Have had a mixed bag when it comes to service. It can be a little slow sometimes but an acceptable trade off for the good food. The smoked brisket is really yummy and don't miss the Jalepeno Burger! This place is heavy on the carnivorous side (which is great in my opinion ) and a nice step up in dinning for the Canby area without the high prices you might expect.

Big menu. Yummy burgers, bbq and salmon. Gluten free buns, bread and BBQ sauce. Gluten free beer and cider. Nice place for a date, group, family or watching a game.

I hadn't been here since the new ownership, but I was very pleased with the changes. I loved the food I got, as well as the drink I ordered. The waitress was incredibly friendly and made the experience that much better. I don't live in Canby anymore, but I definitely plan to eat here again while visiting family.

Backstop is our favorite Happy Hour stop in Canby. Good prices, selection and drinks. Yummy food! Regular menu is good. Prices a little high but very good food. Have never had a bad experience. Ken, the owner, is there quite often and I appreciate seeing how he interacts with the customers. Definitely recommend Backstop.

We tried the previous incarnation of this restaurant and were really happy to hear that a new restaurant would be replacing it. We wanted to give it a chance to work the kinks out, so we only visited for the first time tonight. I wish I could say that I enjoyed my meal here, but I thought the food was really quite bad. I tried the ribs and the brisket. The ribs had no seasoning at all. None. The meat was dry and tasted like nothing. The brisket was also under seasoned, but was coated in some weird sauce that defied identification. It was also served fajita style, which I thought was kind of strange. The fries were good, beans were fine. I also had a side salad, which was fine. One of the reasons I ordered the ribs was because of number of positive reviews here on Yelp, so I feel a bit let down. Service was fine and the atmosphere was much improved from the last restaurant, but that isn't really why I go out to dinner. If the food is nothing special, why bother?
(2)
P C.
The ribs were severely lacking in seasoning. The Brisket was flavored with a strange sauce that was a combination of Mexican Fajita seasoning and a Chinese sweet and Sour. Very odd. The Beer was good, the salad was good, and the sides were good. Overall we were not too pleased. Next time we will try Burgers and fish. Service was good Nice atmosphere despite the 12 TV's.

Still loving The Backstop! Their Spicy Chicken Taquitos.......I crave them all the time. Only two changes would convince me to upgrade my review to five stars: 1. Expand the bar further into the restaurant so more of us can order your delicious food and drinks. The bar is hopping, but the restaurant part is the exact opposite. Way too quiet and we can't participate in happy hour. 2. Invest in better shades for the windows. If I'm unable to face the back of the place, I have to wear sunglasses.

I wound up here on Friday night as part of a celebration of my husband's retirement. Again, the service was stellar, but this time I ordered the brisket salad for dinner. It was delicious (but I would read the menu more closely next time and ask for barbeque sauce on the side and no dressing; it was overdressed for my tastes, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it). This salad has a generous portion of tender, brisket; the greens were fresh and well proportioned with the warm brisket. My salad came with two onion rings that I passed off to friends at the table--they said the rings were well done and tasty. My husband ordered buffalo chicken wrap with fries--all great. Our drinks were good, too. I had a kamikaze and my husband enjoyed a few margaritas. Because we were in a group, someone insisted that we all have a round of Jägermeister. I signaled to the waitress to count me out--I'm not much of a drinker and shots don't sound appealing to me. She subtly came to my side of the table and whispered, "I'll bring you a shot of Coke, ok?" It was actually perfect. Sure, I could have had a smack down with my friend about insisting on shots, but this was the wrong context. I really appreciated her grace and cleverness. Plus, now I look like a bad ass. As the evening played out, I noticed the owner, Ken, see an abandoned purse hanging off a chair near the video gaming machines. He got an employee's attention, asked a few questions, and discerned that the purse belonged to a woman now sitting at the bar. He retrieved it for her. It was a small act of kindness, but Ken's attention to detail caught my eye. No wonder this place feels so good. No wonder it's so crowded and energized. Bravo!

I wanted to add that this place is great with customer service! My drink wasn't quite to my liking one night and it was immediately replaced! I really appreciated that and just wanted to say it never hurts to ask! Also don't miss trying their awesome clam chowder on Friday! Definitely try the Coho Salmon dinner too!!

Yesterday I was thinking to myself, now where was it that I got that Caesar salad I loved so much? It was the Backstop! I popped in after work about a month ago. I wasn't feeling very energetic and I was hungry. I sat at the bar by myself. It was busy but I was given prompt friendly service. I didn't feel like drinking so I just had some coffee which was good, and I got a refill when needed. The only reason I can't give a 5 star experience is because of the chicken wings. In a six piece only one was a shoulder piece. The skin was still wriggly too. I liked the flavor though. I will go back and try again but order wings crispy and to make sure that there are an equal number of shoulder pieces as tips. Caesar was just how a Caesar should be! It was tangy and the parmesan was shaved not that plastic bag tasting grated stuff you usually get out. Even better when I got the bill, it was on happy hour!

Should be 4 1/2 stars but don't know how to give a half. I gave this place 3 stars lat time because their breakfast was not very good. Now we came in for h/h and was very pleased. Holly did a fantastic job taking care of us and the food was good.

Went in lastnight for dinner after a car show and I had the slider burgers and Hubby had the 2 enchilada dinner. We had never been here before and sat in the Lounge not knowing that there was a Restaurant also. Everything was fine and Holly our server was very busy and very gracious. She checked back with us just enough to see to all of our needs but not so much that we felt we were "bugged" by her. Her smile was genuine and hubby said even her eyes smiled when she did. It is very refreshing to have a food server act like they are happy to see you. We will definitely be coming back and hoping the rest of the servers are this happy to be there. The only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars is that I would have preferred my fries a bit crunchier than they were. I'll know better to ask for it next time. All in all I'd say it was a very nice experience and will tell friends about it.

I have lived in Canby almost my entire life. I visited this location prior to and after new owner's took over. Since it has become the Backstop Bar and Grill, I have received nothing but fantastic service, food, and drinks. I have come here on many occasions and ordered many things from the menu. They are quick, friendly, and strive to make you happy. I have come with my husband, with friends, and with my two small children. We really, really love this place and can't say enough great things! Their burgers are fantastic and they make the best tater tots!

Took the family for dinner last night, three of us had the prime rib which was wonderful tender and juicy, others had brisket which was very tender and tasty as well.I would highly recommend the Backstop restaurant.Great friendly staff as well.

Valentines day!! Of course this place was busy. We didn't have to wait long at all. The server was excellent, and the menu was extensive with a great variety. My wife had the fish and chips, which she bragged about and I had just a bacon burger w fries. Food was great. Sports bar atmosphere so expect lots of TV's. Canby finally has a decent place to eat.
(4)

Our family loves this place! It's the only place in town where you can get a "real" salad. Unfortunately Canby has no decent food options and we usually have to head to another city to eat out...until Backstop opened. Great food, nice atmosphere, always consistent, good/avg prices, same friendly staff every time. Haven't been disappointed yet, and I'm a pretty fussy customer & foodie.

Overpriced 'over dry' food... We had prime rib dip and Reuben sandwich... Both too dry... Wings were decent...

Much better this time.. Enjoyed a nice breakfast with good food and service. One scramble and an omelet both prepared well. Jam served on the side was very good and presented well. They earned an additional star since my visit close to their opening. Ill be back next time I'm in Canby.

I was looking forward to eating here as so many great reviews but was highly disappointed with the meal. I ordered the Monte Cristo with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was soggy and lacking flavor. I will give credit for a lot of meat...too much actually; I felt like I was eating a hunk of meat on soggy bread. The fries were OK. My daughter had the tots; they were nice and crispy. She also had the chicken Cesar Salad; it was a nice presentation though flavorless ith dry chicken and tiny croutons..the kind you would get in mini packets with a store salad. I will not be returning.

My friend and I were the first customers through the door on opening day and our service and food was excellent. Hot and tasty and served very quickly. These are highly experienced and very successful restaurant owners with a vision to provide a quality dining experience for their customers. We just came back from a Happy Hour Dinner and it was very good. Wait staff is also very experienced and friendly, neat and clean in appearance. Yes, it is a sports bar and a very good one at that! Do yourself a favor and try it for yourself. Don't trust others you don't even know to make the decision for you. Maybe you won't like it but don't take Ann S.'s word for it.

As the former owner of lil Cooperstown (all 5 locations) ken and his family are doing a wonderful job in the first 2 weeks of business. The food was great and the service was better. They will get through the jitters stage. Hang in there with them. They are going to be a very big part of the Canby scene. They really support the community.

This is not your average bar and grill. This is a really nice family friendly sports bar/restaurant. The food is always served fresh and really hot. There are plenty of menu options to choose from that I don't think I will ever get bored of. The portion sizes are rather large so you definitely get your money's worth and at a reasonable price. I will most definitely be frequenting this place with my friends during the upcoming football season! I really want to compliment the staff on how friendly they are and how eager they are to keep you pleased throughout your meal. I'm definitely spreading the word to friends and family about this place! I also hear there is a banquet hall or ballroom upstairs available for renting out for events? I am definitely eager to learn more about this!

I really had a great burger here today, cooked exactly like I asked for. Good service. The only thing I can say about this place , that might not be so great is it had a generic feel.... They need to stamp it with their personal touch....

Had high hopes for Backstop as we really enjoyed Canby Grill as our "up scale, go to place." Very sad dinner. Service was friendly but slow/over taxed. 3 of our 4 orders were delivered incorrectly. Soup was water with tough chicken & over cooked vegetables & noodles and, though we ordered pork ribs, the beef ribs were HORRIBLE... tough, very greasy & little meat. Dinner salads were good. Clearly they've put quite an investment into the "sports bar" look, but need a lot of help with the food. Won't give it another chance.

Viggo B.
This was our first time here and we had high hopes just because of the lack of decent dining choices in the area. We were most pleasantly surprised and we'll definitely come here again. The food was flavorful and well presented, the menu had several items I'd like to try in the future and they have some great beers on tap. I was surprised the reviews weren't better for this place until I checked the "filtered" reviews and found a whole bunch of great reviews that simply don't show up in the search results of Yelp. I have no idea how Yelp's filtering system works, but I do know I've had reviews filtered out and I have no affiliation with any restaurants anywhere except as a diner. I suggest you check the filtered reviews before you make any judgement about any place.

Canby really needed a place like this! I've been there for lunch, dinner, happy hour and special events. You feel like a regular on your first visit. Backstop seriously has THE BEST wait staff I have ever seen. They are super attentive, knowledgeable on the menu and changing beer taps. They don't scoff at large groups or groups that want to split the check. Happy hour food prices are incredible, you can seriously eat like a queen/king! I swear their pretzels are AMAZING! I don't know what they do to them.. But oh my! Love them! I haven't tried their breakfast on the weekends, but I've heard it's pretty darn good!

(4)Christine K.

Way better with the new owner. We have been back 3 or 4 times now. I would recommend this place for a good dinner

I love this place! It's my neighborhood go to bar, great staff, good food. Great to support a local Canby business!!

The ribs were severely lacking in seasoning. The Brisket was flavored with a strange sauce that was a combination of Mexican Fajita seasoning and a Chinese sweet and Sour. Very odd. The Beer was good, the salad was good, and the sides were good. Overall we were not too pleased. Next time we will try Burgers and fish. Service was good Nice atmosphere despite the 12 TV's.

Always great food and wonderful service. You just can't go wrong when you visit Backstop, we never leave disappointed!
(5)Sean H.
Great place to grab a beer and some food. Super friendly staff, wide variety on the menu. The owner is frequently there and is super approachable.

Love this place!!! Great Food and Great owners!!

Really love the backstop, prices are good service is fast and the food is so good except the salads are small & nit worth the price...Great place to be!!!

(4)Mimi B.
I love this place. Quick service, good food, great happy hour (price wise and the food selection) Really sweet staff. Holly is on point, always knows what I want before I order it. I'm here at least once a week.
(5)Erin H.
One of the best places to eat in Canby. Good beer choices, lots of food choices, and the food is consistently good. We eat here often! Thanks for providing Canby with a nice place for dinner.
(4)Theresa G.
Love it! Get the pork sliders...yummy. Their menu is versatile and great service....
(5)Alan B.
Should be 4 1/2 stars but don't know how to give a half. I gave this place 3 stars lat time because their breakfast was not very good. Now we came in for h/h and was very pleased. Holly did a fantastic job taking care of us and the food was good.
(4)Alexandra J.
Great restaurant & bar!! Love the building and ambiance. Large drink & food menu to please all tastebuds.
(5)Faith H.

(5)Doyle H.
Took the family for dinner last night, three of us had the prime rib which was wonderful tender and juicy, others had brisket which was very tender and tasty as well.I would highly recommend the Backstop restaurant.Great friendly staff as well.
(5)Cliff T.
(4)H A.
(4)Derek C.
Overpriced 'over dry' food... We had prime rib dip and Reuben sandwich... Both too dry... Wings were decent...
(3)Mike G.
Much better this time.. Enjoyed a nice breakfast with good food and service. One scramble and an omelet both prepared well. Jam served on the side was very good and presented well. They earned an additional star since my visit close to their opening. Ill be back next time I'm in Canby.
(4)Dalani S.
This bar and grill has great staff, good food and service! Truly is a great diamond in the rough!
(5)Jennifer S.

(5)Scott M.
Great place having fun with the girls. Drinks and good food. ... friendly service and great sports on the screens. I recommend when in Canby.
(4)Kevin S.
(4)Shawn V.
We just love this place. Friendly service & great food. Fun place to hang out whether you are with your family or just you and the dude's watching a game. Just what Canby needed!!
(5)Alisha M.
(5)Jerry S.
Friendly and the food was delicious!!!! We recommend it to anyone who enjoys good food, friendly staff and family friendly!
(5)M.E. A.
I really had a great burger here today, cooked exactly like I asked for. Good service. The only thing I can say about this place , that might not be so great is it had a generic feel.... They need to stamp it with their personal touch....
(4)Trevor P.
Very good food. Friendly staff. We came for brunch on Sunday. My parents go out each week on Sunday. I am visiting from Colorado. They enjoyed their food as well. They will come again as will I!
(4)Paul P.
I go here for lunch a couple times a week as I work in Canby this place is GREAT the Mondo Burrito is KILLER
(4)Jerome B.
Food was good. The corn chowder was real good. Service was very good too. Lunch time so business was moderate. We were well taken care of.
(4)Jess W.
Very nice wait staff and super fast service! Diverse menu. Food was excellent. We hadn't been here since new owners changed it to Backstop. We would definitely come back.
(5)Tammy S.
(1)Viggo B.
(5)Natalie W.
The brisket sandwich.....yum! My friend loved their brisket salad too! Thank you Yelp for helping me find this tasty joint!
(5)Shannon S.
