We had not been to this restaurant in a few years and had heard the new incarnation was very expensive. Well, I am here to tell you, the food, service, atmosphere, and every detail were perfect and the price was appropriate to the quality of food. I had a half Dungeness crab with salad, rice and veggies. It was done to perfection. My drink was a strawberry daiquiri (peach was not available). My husband enjoyed the grill shrimp with mushrooms and veggies and he ate it all! We enjoyed our meal and our charming waiter's good service. This is probably the best restaurant in the Brookings area, so keep in mind you get what you pay for. Will definitely go back.

This is the place the locals told me I had to try if I wanted yummy seafood, and they were right! The food was excellent, the service fast and friendly, and the ambiance of the live music was lovely. The musician even let everyone in the room request songs! I take away 1 star only because when we ordered beers they came in bottles, and I feel like a nicer restaurant should have them on tap instead. The clam chowder + the bread they brought our table = so good I could make a meal out of that alone!

Service not so great! Appetizer plates weren't cleared from the table until the end. Waiter didn't seem to be on Point, just there, who knows we're human and we have bad days, but non the less we had to ask for beverages. Clam chowder was not good, came out Luke warm so I immediately sent it back and asked for a side salad and the waiter didn't bat an eye or ask why I was sending it back. Prices are to high for the service and portions that we received. The burger was a joke. You can get a better burger through drive through. Pasta, Yay the didn't mess pasta up. Shrimp basket, good. Clam strip appetizer! Hello! Clam strips pile them on cheap skates! The bed of lettuce they sat on top of was more plentiful! Good flavor though. Yay they can fry correctly! Oh 4.00 for a side salad; no thank you. Glad we didn't go for the 20-30.00plate dinner otherwise I would've showed my true colors about food preparation/presentation. Thank goodness for the view. Will not be back. Good Luck. Oh, The Host was nice, and I distinctly remember a fella Andrew, we saw more of him than our waiter, thank you Andrew. Said he was new. Thank goodness he was smiling and willing to help.

For such a pricey restaurant, the food was okay. The place is small and with a nice view, and the staff was courteous, if not semi casually dressed. Clam chowder was good, not great, having very few small chunks of clams, and reminding me of a good quality store bought can of soup. Fish and chips was good/okay, batter on the fish not heavy, the fries were standard, yet the coleslaw was blah sadly. I may come back here, but only after trying some of the many other seafood places around here.

Made reservations a week in advance, arrived five minutes early, receptionist told us table not available for half hour, very rude and sloppy in appearance. Clam chowder was thick and not tasty. Very surprised to see so few stars for Sebastian's! Perhaps it's to do with expectations? Here's what we wanted and were looking for: good fish and chips. And, that's what we found. It's what we've continued to find time after time (we've been coming here for 3 years now). The service has always been prompt and courteous, the surroundings clean and relaxed. We've only ever had fish and chips, beer, and hot tea - so can't speak for the rest of the menu. It's not a "5 star restaurant", but relatively speaking - it IS a 5 star fish and chips restaurant in Brookings, Ore. We will be back!

Excellent service, beautiful view. My husband and I have had breakfast, lunch AND dinner at Sebastians several times. Breakfast and dinner has always been good. It is a bit on the expensive side but they always do a good job. Lunch is average. The only "great" lunch is the crab sandwich. Steaks, seafood and pasta have been consistently good but again, overpriced. Sebastian's serves good food with great service.

My sister-in-law and I stopped through on our road trip because we wanted some good seafood. First of all, the ambiance was really lacking for a small coastal town. t looks as though it has never been updated since it was first built and there is a even a man playing a keyboard in the corner of the restaurant for the older folks. The service was really really SLOW and there were only 3 other tables to serve. It took us a long time to order and the waiter kept forgetting our bread so we actually didn't receive the bread until the end of the meal and were full at that point. My sister-in-law ordered the lobster and I ordered the salmon fettuccine. It was the biggest plate of noodles I have ever seen with a generous portion of salmon mixed in. The salmon was well-cooked but other than that the alfredo sauce was bland and the dish was very boring. It was way too much food which we couldn't take with us and way overpriced. I would have preferred to pay less for a normal-sized helping of food. I don't know if the bland food or the poor service was worse. :(

Mediocre and overpriced. Fried fish was greasy, squid was rubbery. Friend had salmon that he said was good. Clam chowder was pretty good. Service was okay, but had to get vinegar and ketchup from another table after waiting 10 minutes for waiter to bring. Will not go back.

Camping at a near-by RV Park so decided to try it for lunch. We both ordered the chowder as it was cold, foggy and dreary. I would have to say for a seafood restaurant one of the worst chowder's. Could not taste the clams; I'm thinking they used canned minced and not too many cans. Ordered 2 glasses of wine @ $5.50, but, when the bill came they charged $6, I know no big deal, just principal. The waiter adjusted. Service was good, no complaints there. I find the old sea-fare decor charming. I would dine here again if in Brookings.

Okay, it has been a while since my last visit so I decided to be a masochist and try again. Next time someone tell me no. The good news is that the sour old waitresses were not in the night I went and instead were replaced by young, friendly and almost attentive ones (better than rude any day). Bad news is that the food was horrible. The deep fried prawns was so over battered and greasy that I set it on a paper towel to drain. The flavor was not of prawn but more like very strong fishy oil, ate two of six, the others were tossed. Zucchini seamed to have been par boiled and plopped on the plate, no flavor at all, not good, not bad, none. Baked potato, ehhh, sad to say that I could have gotten an equal one at Wendy's for a buck that would have had more flavor. And then the seven dollar piece of Marion Berry Cheesecake... Frozen, pre-prepared, and about the size of a small macaroon cookie. This was my last try.

Do your self a favor and skip this place. Ok, 1st things 1st....this is going to sound mean and gross, but I gotta put it out there. I realize there are ALOT of old people there. Old people are fine, I have no problem with them, but the ENTIRE restraunt smelled that "old people" smell, soooo much that I couldn't breath through my nose! It made me nauseous! I use to work in a funeral home and all I could smell was "death". They really need to circulate the air in there, before I would EVER set foot in that place. Thank goodness that all the food was so salty that I was able to taste something, since I was breathing out of my mouth. (thats a joke) The food was horribly salty. nothing special at all.

A bit pricey but the food is great and it's probably the only nice restaurant open in town after 9pm. Our waiter Andy was attentive and the rest of the staff friendly even though we came in late and were one of the last tables in the place we didnt feel rushed. The meal started with delicious, hot sourdough rolls which is awesome since I love sourdough. I had the fish and chips and was allowed to substiute the chips for a salad with no hassel. The fish was a large, fresh serving and not greasy at all. The salad was just basic iceberg with a couple tomatoes. My companion had the prime rib and raved about it being cooked just right with a nice au jus sauce on the side. He also enjoyed the fresh veggies that came with it. We had planned to try the marionberry cheesecake but were stuffed from the large servings we passed on dessert. The only reason I didn't give a full 5 stars is that Sebastian's is a bit overpriced for the area and the dinner salads were boring and lacking for a fine dining establishment. But I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Brookings and I plan to go again next time I'm in the area.

I ate there just about 2 weeks ago... way behind on my reviews. Wasn't happy at all with the french dip. The roll was more like a hot dog bun and the meat was tough and had no flavor. French fries were good... they were hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I've eaten there several times before but just couldn't figure out what to say in my review. Everything is just blah... maybe my taste buds are shot. It is a nice location. Sebastians can boast that they are the only restaurant in Brookings with a full ocean view. Several nights a week they have a piano player with good music.. If you were in town or passing through I would give it a shot... All I'm saying is to perhaps ignore the french dip.

It was good, not spectacular. I had salmon, which was nicely cooked, but at $26 was a little on the pricey side, I thought. My friend had the lobster, which at $54 was waaaaaay on the pricey side, but it was huge and (she said) delicious. Reasonable but a tad overpriced.

I love that this place has gluten-free options available! You can get gluten-free buns and bread so you can eat A variety of sandwiches or hamburgers, which is awesome if you have a gluten allergy like me. We ate here on our way to Portland and really enjoyed it. there is a beautiful view of the ocean from the dining room, depending on the weather you may or may not be able to see anything. Food was great, not really pricey but slightly above average. The crab melt sandwich was beyond amazing, but the price was on the high side at $16 a sandwich, which included a side. Gluten-free bread as you know it is normally small anyway but we were a little disappointed to see how small the sandwiches were at that cost. I mean, the sandwich was ridiculously good and I would've done it again but just a heads up it's a little on the small side. There are tons of other sandwich options available though if you're in the mood for something bigger. Love the ambience, friendly waitstaff, fast service, and clean bathrooms - would definitely go here again and recommend it!

$29 for the worst piece of fish I've had since the elementary school cafeteria. It certainly wasn't fresh, and I'm not even sure it was halibut. Bland, boiled, and unseasoned. The red potatoes were clearly pulled out of the fridge and microwaved. They were chewy and greasy. The frozen vegetable medley seemed like a frozen vegetable medley. Avoid this place. It was unpleasant.

We just had the most amazing experience here. Fresh & awesome seafood. I had the shrimp scampi I loved it. My friend had the crab said it was amazing. Could see whales as we watched the sunset. Our waiter was great!!! We loved this place.

Stopped in Brookings on our way down the OR coast....spent the night at Ocean Suites Motel (see my review of that great place in Trip Advisor) and was told that since it was so late, Sebastian's was probably the only place open. It was also just "down the harbor rd" from our motel. It closes at 10pm and we showed up at 9:55pm and they were very nice to us. It is located by the Best Western and used to be called Smuggler's Cove, I hear. We started with some very tasty fresh oyster shooters and a couple glasses of OR wine. We shared the $25 fish/shellfish appetizer platter and it was definitely big enough for two. My husband also had a cup of their home made clam chowder and I thought all the food was fresh and excellent! Our waitress, Linda, was very nice and accommodating and friendly to boot! My only complaint was that the young man that was the bus boy (I think - I'm not sure) was making alot of noise setting up the tables for the next day while we were trying to dine in peace and quiet. I know it was almost closing, but they still had paying customers and he should have been told to wait until we left to start setting up for the next day!

The food has been better. Over cooked vegetables and wilted lettuce. The service was ok, just not up to their usual spark. I will give them another try the next time I am in town but they are a higher priced restaurant and I would expect better attention to the details.

I can't go to nuts on my rating as I only had the calamari appetizer and dinner salad. Although the calamari was okay, it wasn't the type I prefer which is the little tentacles and even small octopus not much bigger than a nickel. Theirs reminded me of thin chicken strips. Dipping sauce was uninspired cocktail sauce straight from a bottle. The service was outstanding; very prompt and attentive. Lastly, trying to make a living playing for tips is a tough gig. For crap sakes people, TIP THE PIANO PLAYER!!

After reading the reviews we selected Sebastian's primarily due to the proximity to our hotel. It was about 6:30 Saturday evening, so we did expect a wait. When we arrived the hostess was less than friendly. No smile or welcome; she did say it would be about a 30 minute. We said fine and went to check the bar but it was too crowded to sit down. While we were waiting we noticed a table for two that was empty. My husband ask about it and she responded "the servers weren't ready for anyone to be seated there." Indicates poor staffing. When it became obvious that we would have a much longer wait, we left. Overall, we did not get to try the food and doubt we would go back.

I heard a lot of good things about Sebastian's so we decided to try it. It's a pretty typical seafood restaurant. The food is good, the service is great, the prices are on the high side. The first time we went our server was wonderful, super friendly and fast. I ordered fish and chips with cod. It was really good. The cod was cooked perfectly, the batter was crispy and the fish was moist. Their fries are good, but not amazing, just normal fries. The second time I went was with extended family. We all liked our food, again the seafood was all cooked perfectly, fries and cole slaw were fine, nothing special, but nothing wrong. I ordered a seafood platter that had battered cod, fried shrimp and clam strips. I did not like the clam strips, but my husband loved them and ate mine too. I think it was just me. The shrimp and cod were both fantastic. My uncle ordered a cob salad, and it looked wonderful. My kids don't like seafood and there weren't a lot of good-looking options for them, they settled on hot dogs. Good option for a good seafood restaurant. They have a lot of older customers, I didn't see any kids there either time, except mine and it was busy.

Good basic restaurant with a varied menu of seafood dishes, pasta and beef. We were seated in the bar with a nice view of the coast. Our waitstaff was quick and efficient and offered recommendations for dinner. A singer in bar played softly and was a nice compliment. I would eat here again.

We went here 2 years ago and weren't very impressed but I was hungry and it was near by so I figured let's give it a try. The hostess told us it would be about 20 minutes on the wait. Ok that's cool. During my 50 minute wait we saw her roll her eyes 3 times at other patrons, seat people ahead of us that got there after us (no they didn't have a reservation, they were waiting next to us and told us they didnt), and the best for last: A couple came out from the dining area and asked to speak to a manager saying they had found a blond hair in their drink (they both had black hair). The hostess said, "I'll see if my manager isn't busy and will talk to you." Seriously??? Wouldn't that be a no Brainerd for the manager to make time for customers with this type of complaint- that voiced this complaint in front about 15 other people waiting to be seated? At this point I pulled out my phone, yelped steakhouses and found another one on the other side of town that was fast seating, delicious, and had nothing but wonderful emoloyees!

Strolled into Oregon looking for a late dinner, and luckily they were open! We started with a bowl of their clam chowder, which was creamy and delicious. I ordered the crab Louis salad, which had a good amount of fresh Dungeness crab, and avocados to boot! The hubs ordered their Alaskan Cod fish and chips -- crispy and flaky! I was bummed that their Dungeness crab sandwich was lunchtime only...but we were very pleased with dinner! Amber, our server was so sweet, and even gave us some tips for our trip up the coast!

On my vacation with wife, two teens, mother in law, and grand mother in law, looking forward to seafood, expecially crab, so I called ahead to make sure they had crab (first place we looked only had processed crab cakes, etc) I was told they had dungeons crab. Drove there in under 10 minutes. Had to wait another 30. Thank god there was a tourist trap store attached. We were seated in the back room, by ourselves, where the servers get the silverware and enter orders. After we ordered, the waiter returned telling us the kitchen just told him they have been out of crab, and this place is ON the harbor. We were hungry and decided to stay. Payed close to $30 for a 12oz steak. Maybe 8oz was edible. Patrick our server did his best given the cards he was delt. Won't be back, or recommend it.

Oh Sebastian's....how I wanted to love you. From its proximity to our new home (Walking distance!) to its location on the harbor, this was the restaurant we were most looking forward to trying.....and sadly, the only restaurant in town that we didn't like. Let's start with the bar. I've been there several times. The bar has several TVs presumably for sports...right? Nope. Two of the TVs are always turned to "Outlaw Country." on SiriusXM. When I've asked the bartender to put on a baseball game, I was sheepishly told that the manager insists on always keeping those TVs for her music. Which leads to scenes like the other night..... Four couples of advanced age (and me) having to endure a Motley Crüe country special (yep) complete with commentary from band members. You could see the annoyance just looking around the room. Let's just say they were not enjoying the country rock version of "Girls Girls Girls" and other Crüe interpretations..... Other nights, they have "Gil on the keys" who's pretty good, except when he throws an occasional political musing in between songs. The food? Well, our streak of great meals in Brookings- Harbor has sadly come to an end. My wife had the steak; I had the shrimp. The less said about both meals, the better. ...an extra star for most of the staff and the location. I'm really hoping this place makes some changes. It has awesome potential.

one very rainy afternoon, we stopped in for a late lunch. even though we really didn't know anything about the restaurant, except the online menu, we decided to give it a try. hubby had the shrimp and chips - which he gave two thumbs up. much better than the shrimp/chips at another local eaterie. the fries were fresh, not frozen, always a huge plus. i had the chef's salad. it was absolutely and deliciously fresh and tasty. our server was terrific, helpful with the menu items and beer selections, and very friendly.

Because we had such a good dinner at Sebastain's a couple of nights ago, we went for breakfast this morning. We both ordered the three egg Dungeness crab omelette. They were $16.00 each and we probably would not have paid that much if we wouldn't have had such a great dinner. The omelette was fantastic and we each had hash browns with it. I can't recommend this place enough.

We wanted some good seafood. I mean, it is the Pacific coast after all. Our first two choices were closed, so we drove down the docks to Sebastian's. From the outset, this looked like it could be a nice lunch spot. The restaurant was very clean and had a fun coastal decor. The menu was pretty extensive, and I saw a lot of things that I wanted to sample. We were seated in exceptionally comfy booths. There would have been a great view of the ocean, that is if it wasn't gray and rainy outside. I wanted to warm up from the dreary weather, so I ordered a cup of clam chowder to start. Sadly, the chowder never came, and neither did the Pepsi I ordered. I could have said something about it to the waitress, but I shouldn't have to. For my entree, I had picked out a crab melt sandwich: dungeness crab on grilled sourdough, topped with jack cheese. The menu didn't say as much, but the waitress asked if I wanted green onions on my sandwich. Yes please! The sandwich comes with a side of fries, unless you prefer coleslaw or potato salad, but I wanted the fries. My crab melt was very tasty and had lots of gooey, stringy cheese. The green onions added a much needed crunch, and the crab meat was fresh and flavorful. Grilled sourdough was the perfect vehicle for the sandwich, too. The food was delicious, but the service was extremely lacking. Chowder and Pepsi aside, the service was very slow, which was surprising that we were 1 of only 5 tables. It took our waitress nearly 15 minutes to come back and take the check. We had to just sit there, bored and staring at each other. She finally noticed the missing chowder when she brought the ticket back, but never noticed the missing Pepsi. She was nice about her mistake, but I would rather just had the chowder to begin with. I ended up tipping 13%, which I felt was very generous given the circumstances.

This review is for lunch. There is a separate dinner menu that starts at 3:00. The location is very nice being just off the water next to the harbor. The three star overall rating is pretty accurate. Not bad food but nothing special. Fish and chips OK but quite greasy. Shrimp basket also adequate. Service very spotty. Busboy, who was pouring water for another table next to us gave us serious attitude when we asked for water. He also didn't clear our table after we were finished. Waitress asked about refill when the bill came. My spouse was dry most of the meal. So food was OK ambience OK, Service not stellar. Prices higher than most.

Came here on a Wednesday evening about 5:45. Asked for a seat with a view of the ocean. While they were setting up a table for us, we ordered a couple drinks from the bar--happy hour before 6. Bartender was very friendly and gave us a few tastes of the wines. We liked the Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. We ordered that with our dinner. Once we sat down, service was a little slow, but we weren't in a huge hurry as we sipped our drinks and looked out at the sunny ocean. Eventually our server showed up and explained what was on the menu. We decided on the fresh king salmon and asked if we could split the plate. No problem. For an extra $8 (which was totally fine with us), they gave us two plates with separate sides and split the salmon. Awesome! Salmon was fresh but a little overcooked. The tartar sauce on the side was very tasty tho and helped the salmon out quite a bit. Clam chowder, salad, and baked potatoes all very tasty. We had a generous helping of caramel cream cheese frosting carrot cake for dessert. Excellent! The price out the door for everything (including tip) was $62. A good deal considering the great ocean view!

We're local so have tried this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is OK because they have an inexpensive senior breakfast, but nothing special and sometimes not good at all. Only went back the last itme because my cousin and uncle were visiting from out of town and staying at the hotel across the street. Thought I'd be safe with the ole fried prawn dinner, but the prawns were undercooked and raw in the middle. Had to send that back. I think they only stay in business because of unsuspecting tourists.

My husband ordered the combo seafood basket, a deep fried mix of cod, clam strips, shrimp and French fries, with a small cup of slaw. He enjoyed it. I had the appetizer of steamer clams, a large tub in a garlic, wine and butter sauce with small pieces of fresh tomatoes and green onions. Served with melted butter on the side, it was very flavorful, a little salty but not too bad. A couple of bread rolls made it a filling meal. Service was good. From arrival to leaving, our meal took about an hour and a quarter. Atmosphere is typical of a small coastal town seafood place...not white tablecloth but pleasant and nice for dinner. The wine list has good selection at reasonable ($20 and up) prices. Overall, nothing bad and nothing outstanding. We would return.

We had a good time at Sebastians. Tho we did not eat dinner there we had margaritas and Mai tai's and the Seafood sampler which was awesome! the Bartender was awesome and very good to chat with. The only thing we thought was not so good was when we asked if we could sit by the window we were told NO because it was saved for dinner customers. The whole place was almost empty.... NObody but us even in the Bar. OH well...rules are rules i guess. Nice place we were staying over at the Best western plus and it was someplace we could walk to.

We wanted some good fish & chips and clam chowder (after being in Arizona all winter -- believe me there is no good seafood on the desert!) Sebastian's does a really good job -- HUGE portions of cod (if we were having lunch instead of dinner, we probably would have shared one order!) They were hot, crispy and the batter was not thick and gloppy, like we have had at some places. Good fries and coleslaw and sourdough rolls, too. Their clam chowder is good -- but being from Puget Sound, we have had much better. Our only concern is the s - l - o - w service :( Otherwise, it was great and we'll be back again when we head south next winter.

We told the hostesses we would return I'm the morning for breakfast at 9 am when we arrived they had our table all set up with fresh coffee on the table just on our word, just don't find that kind of service any more. Sebastian's in Brookings, on the Oregon coast is in kind of a time warp. There you have the naugahyde overstuffed booths, dark decor and so so food. In a way is sort of comforting for someone at my age that these places still exist. Brings back memories of times past, when a trip to a steakhouse (in this case a seafood restaurant), was a special event. Actually, this place is convenient and in a town with a scarcity of any restaurant at all, is the reason it still is around. Enough said.

We THOUGHT we were very hungry so we ordered A LOT of food. On top of the fact that they bring a lot of food with each serving, we were swamped in delicious, mouth watering food! The staff could use a little lessons on professionalism. They were very nice and very attentive, but always chit chatting about partying with the other staff members. Best part of this restaurant is that is it convenient (across the street) from the Best Western hotel on the beach on Brookings Harbor. My wife ordered the surf and turf for $74. Lobster was large but was soooo garlicky that you couldn't taste the lobster at all. Unbelievable. The other food was average, and not worth the upscale price.

We had not been to this restaurant in a few years and had heard the new incarnation was very expensive. Well, I am here to tell you, the food, service, atmosphere, and every detail were perfect and the price was appropriate to the quality of food. I had a half Dungeness crab with salad, rice and veggies. It was done to perfection. My drink was a strawberry daiquiri (peach was not available). My husband enjoyed the grill shrimp with mushrooms and veggies and he ate it all! We enjoyed our meal and our charming waiter's good service. This is probably the best restaurant in the Brookings area, so keep in mind you get what you pay for. Will definitely go back.

I mean, the sandwich was ridiculously good and I would've done it again but just a heads up it's a little on the small side. There are tons of other sandwich options available though if you're in the mood for something bigger. $29 for the worst piece of fish I've had since the elementary school cafeteria. It certainly wasn't fresh, and I'm not even sure it was halibut. Bland, boiled, and unseasoned. The red potatoes were clearly pulled out of the fridge and microwaved. They were chewy and greasy. The frozen vegetable medley seemed like a frozen vegetable medley. Avoid this place. This review is for lunch. There is a separate dinner menu that starts at 3:00. The location is very nice being just off the water next to the harbor. The three star overall rating is pretty accurate. Not bad food but nothing special. Fish and chips OK but quite greasy. Shrimp basket also adequate. Service very spotty. Busboy, who was pouring water for another table next to us gave us serious attitude when we asked for water. He also didn't clear our table after we were finished. Waitress asked about refill when the bill came. My spouse was dry most of the meal. So food was OK ambience OK, Service not stellar. Prices higher than most.

Came here on a Wednesday evening about 5:45. Asked for a seat with a view of the ocean. While they were setting up a table for us, we ordered a couple drinks from the bar--happy hour before 6. Bartender was very friendly and gave us a few tastes of the wines. We liked the Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. We ordered that with our dinner. Once we sat down, service was a little slow, but we weren't in a huge hurry as we sipped our drinks and looked out at the sunny ocean. Eventually our server showed up and explained what was on the menu. We decided on the fresh king salmon and asked if we could split the plate. No problem. For an extra $8 (which was totally fine with us), they gave us two plates with separate sides and split the salmon. Awesome! Salmon was fresh but a little overcooked. The tartar sauce on the side was very tasty tho and helped the salmon out quite a bit. Clam chowder, salad, and baked potatoes all very tasty. We had a generous helping of caramel cream cheese frosting carrot cake for dessert. Excellent! The price out the door for everything (including tip) was $62. A good deal considering the great ocean view!

Very surprised to see so few stars for Sebastian's! Perhaps it's to do with expectations? Here's what we wanted and were looking for: good fish and chips. And, that's what we found. It's what we've continued to find time after time (we've been coming here for 3 years now). The service has always been prompt and courteous, the surroundings clean and relaxed. We've only ever had fish and chips, beer, and hot tea - so can't speak for the rest of the menu. It's not a "5 star restaurant", but relatively speaking - it IS a 5 star fish and chips restaurant in Brookings, Ore. We will be back!

Excellent service, beautiful view. My husband and I have had breakfast, lunch AND dinner at Sebastians several times. Breakfast and dinner has always been good. It is a bit on the expensive side but they always do a good job. Lunch is average. The only "great" lunch is the crab sandwich. Steaks, seafood and pasta have been consistently good but again, overpriced. Sebastian's serves good food with great service.

We went here 2 years ago and weren't very impressed but I was hungry and it was near by so I figured let's give it a try. The hostess told us it would be about 20 minutes on the wait. Ok that's cool. During my 50 minute wait we saw her roll her eyes 3 times at other patrons, seat people ahead of us that got there after us (no they didn't have a reservation, they were waiting next to us and told us they didnt), and the best for last: A couple came out from the dining area and asked to speak to a manager saying they had found a blond hair in their drink (they both had black hair). The hostess said, "I'll see if my manager isn't busy and will talk to you." Seriously??? Wouldn't that be a no Brainerd for the manager to make time for customers with this type of complaint- that voiced this complaint in front about 15 other people waiting to be seated? At this point I pulled out my phone, yelped steakhouses and found another one on the other side of town that was fast seating, delicious, and had nothing but wonderful emoloyees!

Strolled into Oregon looking for a late dinner, and luckily they were open! We started with a bowl of their clam chowder, which was creamy and delicious. I ordered the crab Louis salad, which had a good amount of fresh Dungeness crab, and avocados to boot! The hubs ordered their Alaskan Cod fish and chips -- crispy and flaky! I was bummed that their Dungeness crab sandwich was lunchtime only...but we were very pleased with dinner! Amber, our server was so sweet, and even gave us some tips for our trip up the coast!

On my vacation with wife, two teens, mother in law, and grand mother in law, looking forward to seafood, expecially crab, so I called ahead to make sure they had crab (first place we looked only had processed crab cakes, etc) I was told they had dungeons crab. Drove there in under 10 minutes. Had to wait another 30. Thank god there was a tourist trap store attached. We were seated in the back room, by ourselves, where the servers get the silverware and enter orders. After we ordered, the waiter returned telling us the kitchen just told him they have been out of crab, and this place is ON the harbor. We were hungry and decided to stay. Payed close to $30 for a 12oz steak. Maybe 8oz was edible. Patrick our server did his best given the cards he was delt. Won't be back, or recommend it.

After reading the reviews we selected Sebastian's primarily due to the proximity to our hotel. It was about 6:30 Saturday evening, so we did expect a wait. When we arrived the hostess was less than friendly. No smile or welcome; she did say it would be about a 30 minute. We said fine and went to check the bar but it was too crowded to sit down. While we were waiting we noticed a table for two that was empty. My husband ask about it and she responded "the servers weren't ready for anyone to be seated there." Indicates poor staffing. When it became obvious that we would have a much longer wait, we left. Overall, we did not get to try the food and doubt we would go back.

I heard a lot of good things about Sebastian's so we decided to try it. It's a pretty typical seafood restaurant. The food is good, the service is great, the prices are on the high side. The first time we went our server was wonderful, super friendly and fast. I ordered fish and chips with cod. It was really good. The cod was cooked perfectly, the batter was crispy and the fish was moist. Their fries are good, but not amazing, just normal fries. The second time I went was with extended family. We all liked our food, again the seafood was all cooked perfectly, fries and cole slaw were fine, nothing special, but nothing wrong. I ordered a seafood platter that had battered cod, fried shrimp and clam strips. I did not like the clam strips, but my husband loved them and ate mine too. I think it was just me. The shrimp and cod were both fantastic. My uncle ordered a cob salad, and it looked wonderful. My kids don't like seafood and there weren't a lot of good-looking options for them, they settled on hot dogs. Good option for a good seafood restaurant. They have a lot of older customers, I didn't see any kids there either time, except mine and it was busy.

Waiter didn't seem to be on Point, just there, who knows we're human and we have bad days, but non the less we had to ask for beverages. Prices are to high for the service and portions that we received. The burger was a joke. You can get a better burger through drive through. Pasta, Yay the didn't mess pasta up. Shrimp basket, good. Clam strip appetizer! Hello! Clam strips pile them on cheap skates! The bed of lettuce they sat on top of was more plentiful! Good flavor though. Yay they can fry correctly! Oh 4.00 for a side salad; no thank you. Glad we didn't go for the 20-30.00plate dinner otherwise I would've showed my true colors about food preparation/presentation. Thank goodness for the view. Oh Sebastian's....how I wanted to love you. From its proximity to our new home (Walking distance!) to its location on the harbor, this was the restaurant we were most looking forward to trying.....and sadly, the only restaurant in town that we didn't like. Let's start with the bar. I've been there several times. The bar has several TVs presumably for sports...right? Nope. Two of the TVs are always turned to "Outlaw Country." on SiriusXM. When I've asked the bartender to put on a baseball game, I was sheepishly told that the manager insists on always keeping those TVs for her music. Which leads to scenes like the other night..... Four couples of advanced age (and me) having to endure a Motley Crüe country special (yep) complete with commentary from band members. You could see the annoyance just looking around the room. Let's just say they were not enjoying the country rock version of "Girls Girls Girls" and other Crüe interpretations..... Other nights, they have "Gil on the keys" who's pretty good, except when he throws an occasional political musing in between songs. The food? Well, our streak of great meals in Brookings- Harbor has sadly come to an end. My wife had the steak; I had the shrimp. The less said about both meals, the better. ...an extra star for most of the staff and the location. I'm really hoping this place makes some changes. It has awesome potential.

one very rainy afternoon, we stopped in for a late lunch. even though we really didn't know anything about the restaurant, except the online menu, we decided to give it a try. hubby had the shrimp and chips - which he gave two thumbs up. much better than the shrimp/chips at another local eaterie. the fries were fresh, not frozen, always a huge plus. i had the chef's salad. it was absolutely and deliciously fresh and tasty. our server was terrific, helpful with the menu items and beer selections, and very friendly.

They were $16.00 each and we probably would not have paid that much if we wouldn't have had such a great dinner. The omelette was fantastic and we each had hash browns with it. We wanted some good seafood. I mean, it is the Pacific coast after all. Our first two choices were closed, so we drove down the docks to Sebastian's. From the outset, this looked like it could be a nice lunch spot. The restaurant was very clean and had a fun coastal decor. The menu was pretty extensive, and I saw a lot of things that I wanted to sample. We were seated in exceptionally comfy booths. There would have been a great view of the ocean, that is if it wasn't gray and rainy outside. I wanted to warm up from the dreary weather, so I ordered a cup of clam chowder to start. Sadly, the chowder never came, and neither did the Pepsi I ordered. I could have said something about it to the waitress, but I shouldn't have to. For my entree, I had picked out a crab melt sandwich: dungeness crab on grilled sourdough, topped with jack cheese. The menu didn't say as much, but the waitress asked if I wanted green onions on my sandwich. Yes please! The sandwich comes with a side of fries, unless you prefer coleslaw or potato salad, but I wanted the fries. My crab melt was very tasty and had lots of gooey, stringy cheese. The green onions added a much needed crunch, and the crab meat was fresh and flavorful. Grilled sourdough was the perfect vehicle for the sandwich, too. The food was delicious, but the service was extremely lacking. Chowder and Pepsi aside, the service was very slow, which was surprising that we were 1 of only 5 tables. It took our waitress nearly 15 minutes to come back and take the check. We had to just sit there, bored and staring at each other. She finally noticed the missing chowder when she brought the ticket back, but never noticed the missing Pepsi. She was nice about her mistake, but I would rather just had the chowder to begin with. I ended up tipping 13%, which I felt was very generous given the circumstances.

Very surprised to see so few stars for Sebastian's! Perhaps it's to do with expectations? Here's what we wanted and were looking for: good fish and chips. And, that's what we found. It's what we've continued to find time after time (we've been coming here for 3 years now). The service has always been prompt and courteous, the surroundings clean and relaxed. We've only ever had fish and chips, beer, and hot tea - so can't speak for the rest of the menu. It's not a "5 star restaurant", but relatively speaking - it IS a 5 star fish and chips restaurant in Brookings, Ore. We will be back!

Excellent service, beautiful view. My husband and I have had breakfast, lunch AND dinner at Sebastians several times. Breakfast and dinner has always been good. It is a bit on the expensive side but they always do a good job. Lunch is average. The only "great" lunch is the crab sandwich. Steaks, seafood and pasta have been consistently good but again, overpriced. Sebastian's serves good food with great service.

We had a good time at Sebastians. Tho we did not eat dinner there we had margaritas and Mai tai's and the Seafood sampler which was awesome! the Bartender was awesome and very good to chat with. The only thing we thought was not so good was when we asked if we could sit by the window we were told NO because it was saved for dinner customers. The whole place was almost empty.... NObody but us even in the Bar. OH well...rules are rules i guess. Nice place we were staying over at the Best western plus and it was someplace we could walk to.

We wanted some good fish & chips and clam chowder (after being in Arizona all winter -- believe me there is no good seafood on the desert!) Sebastian's does a really good job -- HUGE portions of cod (if we were having lunch instead of dinner, we probably would have shared one order!) They were hot, crispy and the batter was not thick and gloppy, like we have had at some places. Good fries and coleslaw and sourdough rolls, too. Their clam chowder is good -- but being from Puget Sound, we have had much better. Our only concern is the s - l - o - w service :( Otherwise, it was great and we'll be back again when we head south next winter.

We told the hostesses we would return I'm the morning for breakfast at 9 am when we arrived they had our table all set up with fresh coffee on the table just on our word, just don't find that kind of service any more. Sebastian's in Brookings, on the Oregon coast is in kind of a time warp. There you have the naugahyde overstuffed booths, dark decor and so so food. In a way is sort of comforting for someone at my age that these places still exist. Brings back memories of times past, when a trip to a steakhouse (in this case a seafood restaurant), was a special event. Actually, this place is convenient and in a town with a scarcity of any restaurant at all, is the reason it still is around. Enough said.

My sister-in-law and I stopped through on our road trip because we wanted some good seafood. First of all, the ambiance was really lacking for a small coastal town. t looks as though it has never been updated since it was first built and there is a even a man playing a keyboard in the corner of the restaurant for the older folks. The service was really really SLOW and there were only 3 other tables to serve. It took us a long time to order and the waiter kept forgetting our bread so we actually didn't receive the bread until the end of the meal and were full at that point. My sister-in-law ordered the lobster and I ordered the salmon fettuccine. It was the biggest plate of noodles I have ever seen with a generous portion of salmon mixed in. The salmon was well-cooked but other than that the alfredo sauce was bland and the dish was very boring. It was way too much food which we couldn't take with us and way overpriced. I would have preferred to pay less for a normal-sized helping of food. I don't know if the bland food or the poor service was worse. :(

Camping at a near-by RV Park so decided to try it for lunch. We both ordered the chowder as it was cold, foggy and dreary. I would have to say for a seafood restaurant one of the worst chowder's. Could not taste the clams; I'm thinking they used canned minced and not too many cans. Ordered 2 glasses of wine @ $5.50, but, when the bill came they charged $6, I know no big deal, just principal. The waiter adjusted. Service was good, no complaints there. I find the old sea-fare decor charming. I would dine here again if in Brookings.

Okay, it has been a while since my last visit so I decided to be a masochist and try again. Next time someone tell me no. The good news is that the sour old waitresses were not in the night I went and instead were replaced by young, friendly and almost attentive ones (better than rude any day). Bad news is that the food was horrible. The deep fried prawns was so over battered and greasy that I set it on a paper towel to drain. The flavor was not of prawn but more like very strong fishy oil, ate two of six, the others were tossed. Zucchini seamed to have been par boiled and plopped on the plate, no flavor at all, not good, not bad, none. Baked potato, ehhh, sad to say that I could have gotten an equal one at Wendy's for a buck that would have had more flavor. And then the seven dollar piece of Marion Berry Cheesecake... Frozen, pre-prepared, and about the size of a small macaroon cookie. This was my last try.

Do your self a favor and skip this place. Ok, 1st things 1st....this is going to sound mean and gross, but I gotta put it out there. I realize there are ALOT of old people there. Old people are fine, I have no problem with them, but the ENTIRE restraunt smelled that "old people" smell, soooo much that I couldn't breath through my nose! It made me nauseous! I use to work in a funeral home and all I could smell was "death". They really need to circulate the air in there, before I would EVER set foot in that place. A bit pricey but the food is great and it's probably the only nice restaurant open in town after 9pm. Our waiter Andy was attentive and the rest of the staff friendly even though we came in late and were one of the last tables in the place we didnt feel rushed. The meal started with delicious, hot sourdough rolls which is awesome since I love sourdough. I had the fish and chips and was allowed to substiute the chips for a salad with no hassel. The fish was a large, fresh serving and not greasy at all. The salad was just basic iceberg with a couple tomatoes. My companion had the prime rib and raved about it being cooked just right with a nice au jus sauce on the side. He also enjoyed the fresh veggies that came with it. We had planned to try the marionberry cheesecake but were stuffed from the large servings we passed on dessert. The only reason I didn't give a full 5 stars is that Sebastian's is a bit overpriced for the area and the dinner salads were boring and lacking for a fine dining establishment. But I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Brookings and I plan to go again next time I'm in the area.

I ate there just about 2 weeks ago... way behind on my reviews. Wasn't happy at all with the french dip. The roll was more like a hot dog bun and the meat was tough and had no flavor. French fries were good... they were hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I've eaten there several times before but just couldn't figure out what to say in my review. Everything is just blah... maybe my taste buds are shot. It is a nice location. Sebastians can boast that they are the only restaurant in Brookings with a full ocean view. Several nights a week they have a piano player with good music.. If you were in town or passing through I would give it a shot... All I'm saying is to perhaps ignore the french dip.

My husband and I stayed at the Beachfront Inn and ate dinner at Sebastian's. Excellent food, that's all I have to say. The cook is a smokin' good chef! We THOUGHT we were very hungry so we ordered A LOT of food. On top of the fact that they bring a lot of food with each serving, we were swamped in delicious, mouth watering food! The staff could use a little lessons on professionalism. They were very nice and very attentive, but always chit chatting about partying with the other staff members. One waitress sneezed about 3 feet from our table. She covered her mouth and everything, but......still. If this place refined their staff it would be a five-star in my opinion.

Best part of this restaurant is that is it convenient (across the street) from the Best Western hotel on the beach on Brookings Harbor. My wife ordered the surf and turf for $74. Lobster was large but was soooo garlicky that you couldn't taste the lobster at all. Unbelievable. The other food was average, and not worth the upscale price.

Stopped in Brookings on our way down the OR coast....spent the night at Ocean Suites Motel (see my review of that great place in Trip Advisor) and was told that since it was so late, Sebastian's was probably the only place open. It was also just "down the harbor rd" from our motel. It closes at 10pm and we showed up at 9:55pm and they were very nice to us. It is located by the Best Western and used to be called Smuggler's Cove, I hear. We started with some very tasty fresh oyster shooters and a couple glasses of OR wine. We shared the $25 fish/shellfish appetizer platter and it was definitely big enough for two. My husband also had a cup of their home made clam chowder and I thought all the food was fresh and excellent! Our waitress, Linda, was very nice and accommodating and friendly to boot! My only complaint was that the young man that was the bus boy (I think - I'm not sure) was making alot of noise setting up the tables for the next day while we were trying to dine in peace and quiet. I know it was almost closing, but they still had paying customers and he should have been told to wait until we left to start setting up for the next day!

ordered steak with baked potato. steak was good but very small. maybe 8 oz steak. potato was fine. ordered full steamed crab. it came as crab legs only, no shell, i wonder how much meat i did not get. the crab was cooked well. but had no flavor. i'd prefer it to be cooked in some type of flavored broth. salad that comes with the meal is very small and plain. the clam chowder was a small cup, it was ok but i definitely have had better. the desert was good but it was obvious that it was not made there. lastly, the service is REALLY SLOW. bread came 20-30 min after we sat down. the waiter asked three times what we ordered - forgot what dressing for salad, forgot what garnishings, etc. took a very long time to bring our drinks and reorders of drinks. price was very good. spent under 80$ 2 course meal, desert, and drinks. i'd go back just because there isnt much else to chose from here.

Strolled into Oregon looking for a late dinner, and luckily they were open! We started with a bowl of their clam chowder, which was creamy and delicious. I ordered the crab Louis salad, which had a good amount of fresh Dungeness crab, and avocados to boot! The hubs ordered their Alaskan Cod fish and chips -- crispy and flaky! I was bummed that their Dungeness crab sandwich was lunchtime only...but we were very pleased with dinner! Amber, our server was so sweet, and even gave us some tips for our trip up the coast!

Well, I am here to tell you, the food, service, atmosphere, and every detail were perfect and the price was appropriate to the quality of food. I had a half Dungeness crab with salad, rice and veggies. It was done to perfection. My drink was a strawberry daiquiri (peach was not available). My husband enjoyed the grill shrimp with mushrooms and veggies and he ate it all! We enjoyed our meal and our charming waiter's good service. This is probably the best restaurant in the Brookings area, so keep in mind you get what you pay for. Will definitely go back.

Service not so great! Appetizer plates weren't cleared from the table until the end. Waiter didn't seem to be on Point, just there, who knows we're human and we have bad days, but non the less we had to ask for beverages. Clam chowder was not good, came out Luke warm so I immediately sent it back and asked for a side salad and the waiter didn't bat an eye or ask why I was sending it back. Prices are to high for the service and portions that we received. The burger was a joke. You can get a better burger through drive through. Pasta, Yay the didn't mess pasta up. Shrimp basket, good. Clam strip appetizer! Hello! Clam strips pile them on cheap skates! The bed of lettuce they sat on top of was more plentiful! Good flavor though. Yay they can fry correctly! Oh 4.00 for a side salad; no thank you. Glad we didn't go for the 20-30.00plate dinner otherwise I would've showed my true colors about food preparation/presentation. Thank goodness for the view. Will not be back. Good Luck. Oh, The Host was nice, and I distinctly remember a fella Andrew, we saw more of him than our waiter, thank you Andrew. Said he was new. Although the calamari was okay, it wasn't the type I prefer which is the little tentacles and even small octopus not much bigger than a nickel. Theirs reminded me of thin chicken strips. After reading the reviews we selected Sebastian's primarily due to the proximity to our hotel. It was about 6:30 Saturday evening, so we did expect a wait. When we arrived the hostess was less than friendly. No smile or welcome; she did say it would be about a 30 minute. We said fine and went to check the bar but it was too crowded to sit down. While we were waiting we noticed a table for two that was empty. My husband ask about it and she responded "the servers weren't ready for anyone to be seated there." Indicates poor staffing. When it became obvious that we would have a much longer wait, we left. Overall, we did not get to try the food and doubt we would go back.

I heard a lot of good things about Sebastian's so we decided to try it. It's a pretty typical seafood restaurant. The food is good, the service is great, the prices are on the high side. The first time we went our server was wonderful, super friendly and fast. I ordered fish and chips with cod. It was really good. The cod was cooked perfectly, the batter was crispy and the fish was moist. Their fries are good, but not amazing, just normal fries. The second time I went was with extended family. We all liked our food, again the seafood was all cooked perfectly, fries and cole slaw were fine, nothing special, but nothing wrong. I ordered a seafood platter that had battered cod, fried shrimp and clam strips. I did not like the clam strips, but my husband loved them and ate mine too. I think it was just me. The shrimp and cod were both fantastic. My uncle ordered a cob salad, and it looked wonderful. My kids don't like seafood and there weren't a lot of good-looking options for them, they settled on hot dogs. Good option for a good seafood restaurant. They have a lot of older customers, I didn't see any kids there either time, except mine and it was busy.

We went here 2 years ago and weren't very impressed but I was hungry and it was near by so I figured let's give it a try. The hostess told us it would be about 20 minutes on the wait. Ok that's cool. During my 50 minute wait we saw her roll her eyes 3 times at other patrons, seat people ahead of us that got there after us (no they didn't have a reservation, they were waiting next to us and told us they didnt), and the best for last: A couple came out from the dining area and asked to speak to a manager saying they had found a blond hair in their drink (they both had black hair). The hostess said, "I'll see if my manager isn't busy and will talk to you." Seriously??? Wouldn't that be a no Brainerd for the manager to make time for customers with this type of complaint- that voiced this complaint in front about 15 other people waiting to be seated? At this point I pulled out my phone, yelped steakhouses and found another one on the other side of town that was fast seating, delicious, and had nothing but wonderful emoloyees!

On my vacation with wife, two teens, mother in law, and grand mother in law, looking forward to seafood, expecially crab, so I called ahead to make sure they had crab (first place we looked only had processed crab cakes, etc) I was told they had dungeons crab. Drove there in under 10 minutes. Had to wait another 30. Thank god there was a tourist trap store attached. We were seated in the back room, by ourselves, where the servers get the silverware and enter orders. After we ordered, the waiter returned telling us the kitchen just told him they have been out of crab, and this place is ON the harbor. We were hungry and decided to stay. Payed close to $30 for a 12oz steak. Maybe 8oz was edible. Patrick our server did his best given the cards he was delt. Won't be back, or recommend it.

Oh Sebastian's....how I wanted to love you. From its proximity to our new home (Walking distance!) to its location on the harbor, this was the restaurant we were most looking forward to trying.....and sadly, the only restaurant in town that we didn't like. Let's start with the bar. I've been there several times. The bar has several TVs presumably for sports...right? Nope. Two of the TVs are always turned to "Outlaw Country." on SiriusXM. When I've asked the bartender to put on a baseball game, I was sheepishly told that the manager insists on always keeping those TVs for her music. Which leads to scenes like the other night..... Four couples of advanced age (and me) having to endure a Motley Crüe country special (yep) complete with commentary from band members. You could see the annoyance just looking around the room. Let's just say they were not enjoying the country rock version of "Girls Girls Girls" and other Crüe interpretations..... Other nights, they have "Gil on the keys" who's pretty good, except when he throws an occasional political musing in between songs. The food? Well, our streak of great meals in Brookings- Harbor has sadly come to an end. My wife had the steak; I had the shrimp. The less said about both meals, the better. ...an extra star for most of the staff and the location. I'm really hoping this place makes some changes. It has awesome potential.

one very rainy afternoon, we stopped in for a late lunch. even though we really didn't know anything about the restaurant, except the online menu, we decided to give it a try. hubby had the shrimp and chips - which he gave two thumbs up. much better than the shrimp/chips at another local eaterie. the fries were fresh, not frozen, always a huge plus. i had the chef's salad. it was absolutely and deliciously fresh and tasty. our server was terrific, helpful with the menu items and beer selections, and very friendly.

The food was delicious, but the service was extremely lacking. Chowder and Pepsi aside, the service was very slow, which was surprising that we were 1 of only 5 tables. It took our waitress nearly 15 minutes to come back and take the check. We had to just sit there, bored and staring at each other. She finally noticed the missing chowder when she brought the ticket back, but never noticed the missing Pepsi. She was nice about her mistake, but I would rather just had the chowder to begin with. I ended up tipping 13%, which I felt was very generous given the circumstances.

This review is for lunch. There is a separate dinner menu that starts at 3:00. The location is very nice being just off the water next to the harbor. The three star overall rating is pretty accurate. Not bad food but nothing special. Fish and chips OK but quite greasy. Shrimp basket also adequate. Service very spotty. Busboy, who was pouring water for another table next to us gave us serious attitude when we asked for water. He also didn't clear our table after we were finished. Waitress asked about refill when the bill came. My spouse was dry most of the meal. So food was OK ambience OK, Service not stellar. Prices higher than most.

$29 for the worst piece of fish I've had since the elementary school cafeteria. It certainly wasn't fresh, and I'm not even sure it was halibut. Bland, boiled, and unseasoned. The red potatoes were clearly pulled out of the fridge and microwaved. They were chewy and greasy. The frozen vegetable medley seemed like a frozen vegetable medley. Avoid this place. It was unpleasant.

We just had the most amazing experience here. Fresh & awesome seafood. I had the shrimp scampi I loved it. My friend had the crab said it was amazing. Could see whales as we watched the sunset. Our waiter was great!!! We loved this place.

We had a party of 12 the wait staff could not have been more accommodating the food was great. We told the hostesses we would return I'm the morning for breakfast at 9 am when we arrived they had our table all set up with fresh coffee on the table just on our word, just don't find that kind of service any more. Breakfast was reasonable and very very good. DON'T MISS THIS PLACE.

We wanted some good fish & chips and clam chowder (after being in Arizona all winter -- believe me there is no good seafood on the desert!) Sebastian's does a really good job -- HUGE portions of cod (if we were having lunch instead of dinner, we probably would have shared one order!) They were hot, crispy and the batter was not thick and gloppy, like we have had at some places. Good fries and coleslaw and sourdough rolls, too. Their clam chowder is good -- but being from Puget Sound, we have had much better. Our only concern is the s - l - o - w service :( Otherwise, it was great and we'll be back again when we head south next winter.

Sebastian's in Brookings, on the Oregon coast is in kind of a time warp. There you have the naugahyde overstuffed booths, dark decor and so so food. In a way is sort of comforting for someone at my age that these places still exist. Brings back memories of times past, when a trip to a steakhouse (in this case a seafood restaurant), was a special event. Actually, this place is convenient and in a town with a scarcity of any restaurant at all, is the reason it still is around. Enough said.

My sister-in-law and I stopped through on our road trip because we wanted some good seafood. First of all, the ambiance was really lacking for a small coastal town. t looks as though it has never been updated since it was first built and there is a even a man playing a keyboard in the corner of the restaurant for the older folks. The service was really really SLOW and there were only 3 other tables to serve. It took us a long time to order and the waiter kept forgetting our bread so we actually didn't receive the bread until the end of the meal and were full at that point. My sister-in-law ordered the lobster and I ordered the salmon fettuccine. It was the biggest plate of noodles I have ever seen with a generous portion of salmon mixed in. The salmon was well-cooked but other than that the alfredo sauce was bland and the dish was very boring. It was way too much food which we couldn't take with us and way overpriced. I would have preferred to pay less for a normal-sized helping of food. I don't know if the bland food or the poor service was worse. :(

Came here on a Wednesday evening about 5:45. Asked for a seat with a view of the ocean. While they were setting up a table for us, we ordered a couple drinks from the bar--happy hour before 6. Bartender was very friendly and gave us a few tastes of the wines. We liked the Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. We ordered that with our dinner. Once we sat down, service was a little slow, but we weren't in a huge hurry as we sipped our drinks and looked out at the sunny ocean. Eventually our server showed up and explained what was on the menu. We decided on the fresh king salmon and asked if we could split the plate. No problem. For an extra $8 (which was totally fine with us), they gave us two plates with separate sides and split the salmon. Awesome! Salmon was fresh but a little overcooked. The tartar sauce on the side was very tasty tho and helped the salmon out quite a bit. Clam chowder, salad, and baked potatoes all very tasty. We had a generous helping of caramel cream cheese frosting carrot cake for dessert. Excellent! The price out the door for everything (including tip) was $62. A good deal considering the great ocean view!

We're local so have tried this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is OK because they have an inexpensive senior breakfast, but nothing special and sometimes not good at all. Lunch - mediocre fried fish or prawn basket, frozen fries, type thing.. Chowder is thick with cornstarch and awful. Tried dinner there three times - all bad. Only went back the last itme because my cousin and uncle were visiting from out of town and staying at the hotel across the street. Thought I'd be safe with the ole fried prawn dinner, but the prawns were undercooked and raw in the middle. Had to send that back. I think they only stay in business because of unsuspecting tourists.

We arrived for dinner at 7 pm on a Tuesday night in late July and were seated immediately. The menu is heavy toward the seafood and the fried, but has some pastas, salads and meats as well. My husband ordered the combo seafood basket, a deep fried mix of cod, clam strips, shrimp and French fries, with a small cup of slaw. He enjoyed it. I had the appetizer of steamer clams, a large tub in a garlic, wine and butter sauce with small pieces of fresh tomatoes and green onions. Served with melted butter on the side, it was very flavorful, a little salty but not too bad. A couple of bread rolls made it a filling meal. Service was good. From arrival to leaving, our meal took about an hour and a quarter. Atmosphere is typical of a small coastal town seafood place...not white tablecloth but pleasant and nice for dinner. The wine list has good selection at reasonable ($20 and up) prices. Overall, nothing bad and nothing outstanding. We would return.

Mediocre and overpriced. Fried fish was greasy, squid was rubbery. Friend had salmon that he said was good. Clam chowder was pretty good. Service was okay, but had to get vinegar and ketchup from another table after waiting 10 minutes for waiter to bring. Will not go back.

Camping at a near-by RV Park so decided to try it for lunch. We both ordered the chowder as it was cold, foggy and dreary. I would have to say for a seafood restaurant one of the worst chowder's. Could not taste the clams; I'm thinking they used canned minced and not too many cans. Ordered 2 glasses of wine @ $5.50, but, when the bill came they charged $6, I know no big deal, just principal. The waiter adjusted. Service was good, no complaints there. I find the old sea-fare decor charming. I would dine here again if in Brookings.

Okay, it has been a while since my last visit so I decided to be a masochist and try again. Next time someone tell me no. The good news is that the sour old waitresses were not in the night I went and instead were replaced by young, friendly and almost attentive ones (better than rude any day). Bad news is that the food was horrible. The deep fried prawns was so over battered and greasy that I set it on a paper towel to drain. The flavor was not of prawn but more like very strong fishy oil, ate two of six, the others were tossed. Zucchini seamed to have been par boiled and plopped on the plate, no flavor at all, not good, not bad, none. Baked potato, ehhh, sad to say that I could have gotten an equal one at Wendy's for a buck that would have had more flavor. And then the seven dollar piece of Marion Berry Cheesecake... Frozen, pre-prepared, and about the size of a small macaroon cookie. This was my last try.

Do your self a favor and skip this place. Ok, 1st things 1st....this is going to sound mean and gross, but I gotta put it out there. I realize there are ALOT of old people there. Old people are fine, I have no problem with them, but the ENTIRE restraunt smelled that "old people" smell, soooo much that I couldn't breath through my nose! It made me nauseous! I use to work in a funeral home and all I could smell was "death". They really need to circulate the air in there, before I would EVER set foot in that place. Thank goodness that all the food was so salty that I was able to taste something, since I was breathing out of my mouth. (thats a joke) The food was horribly salty. nothing special at all.

A bit pricey but the food is great and it's probably the only nice restaurant open in town after 9pm. Our waiter Andy was attentive and the rest of the staff friendly even though we came in late and were one of the last tables in the place we didnt feel rushed. The meal started with delicious, hot sourdough rolls which is awesome since I love sourdough. I had the fish and chips and was allowed to substiute the chips for a salad with no hassel. The fish was a large, fresh serving and not greasy at all. The salad was just basic iceberg with a couple tomatoes. My companion had the prime rib and raved about it being cooked just right with a nice au jus sauce on the side. He also enjoyed the fresh veggies that came with it. We had planned to try the marionberry cheesecake but were stuffed from the large servings we passed on dessert. The only reason I didn't give a full 5 stars is that Sebastian's is a bit overpriced for the area and the dinner salads were boring and lacking for a fine dining establishment. But I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Brookings and I plan to go again next time I'm in the area.

I ate there just about 2 weeks ago... way behind on my reviews. Wasn't happy at all with the french dip. The roll was more like a hot dog bun and the meat was tough and had no flavor. French fries were good... they were hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I've eaten there several times before but just couldn't figure out what to say in my review. Everything is just blah... maybe my taste buds are shot. It is a nice location. Sebastians can boast that they are the only restaurant in Brookings with a full ocean view. Several nights a week they have a piano player with good music.. If you were in town or passing through I would give it a shot... All I'm saying is to perhaps ignore the french dip.

It was good, not spectacular. I had salmon, which was nicely cooked, but at $26 was a little on the pricey side, I thought. My friend had the lobster, which at $54 was waaaaaay on the pricey side, but it was huge and (she said) delicious. Reasonable but a tad overpriced.

My husband and I stayed at the Beachfront Inn and ate dinner at Sebastian's. Excellent food, that's all I have to say. The cook is a smokin' good chef! We THOUGHT we were very hungry so we ordered A LOT of food. On top of the fact that they bring a lot of food with each serving, we were swamped in delicious, mouth watering food! The staff could use a little lessons on professionalism. They were very nice and very attentive, but always chit chatting about partying with the other staff members. One waitress sneezed about 3 feet from our table. She covered her mouth and everything, but......still. If this place refined their staff it would be a five-star in my opinion.

Best part of this restaurant is that is it convenient (across the street) from the Best Western hotel on the beach on Brookings Harbor. My wife ordered the surf and turf for $74. Lobster was large but was soooo garlicky that you couldn't taste the lobster at all. Unbelievable. The other food was average, and not worth the upscale price.

Again, chosen for being across the street from the Best Western where we spend a night, it turned out to be okay, yet rather expensive for the quality. We shared the house Cabernet that was not very good. The clams dipped in butter were good, but the broth was salty and not well flavored so would not recommend slurping. The crab cocktail was fine, and the Chinese chicken salad was okay. The Marionberry cheesecake seemed out of place, but was good, too.

Stopped in Brookings on our way down the OR coast....spent the night at Ocean Suites Motel (see my review of that great place in Trip Advisor) and was told that since it was so late, Sebastian's was probably the only place open. It was also just "down the harbor rd" from our motel. It closes at 10pm and we showed up at 9:55pm and they were very nice to us. It is located by the Best Western and used to be called Smuggler's Cove, I hear. We started with some very tasty fresh oyster shooters and a couple glasses of OR wine. We shared the $25 fish/shellfish appetizer platter and it was definitely big enough for two. My husband also had a cup of their home made clam chowder and I thought all the food was fresh and excellent! Our waitress, Linda, was very nice and accommodating and friendly to boot! My only complaint was that the young man that was the bus boy (I think - I'm not sure) was making alot of noise setting up the tables for the next day while we were trying to dine in peace and quiet. I know it was almost closing, but they still had paying customers and he should have been told to wait until we left to start setting up for the next day!

ordered steak with baked potato. steak was good but very small. maybe 8 oz steak. potato was fine. ordered full steamed crab. it came as crab legs only, no shell, i wonder how much meat i did not get. the crab was cooked well. but had no flavor. i'd prefer it to be cooked in some type of flavored broth. salad that comes with the meal is very small and plain. the clam chowder was a small cup, it was ok but i definitely have had better. the desert was good but it was obvious that it was not made there. lastly, the service is REALLY SLOW. bread came 20-30 min after we sat down. the waiter asked three times what we ordered - forgot what dressing for salad, forgot what garnishings, etc. took a very long time to bring our drinks and reorders of drinks. price was very good. spent under 80$ 2 course meal, desert, and drinks. i'd go back just because there isnt much else to chose from here.
