Incredible yet again! My girl friends and I were in Brookings for the evening and went to Black Trumpet for dinner it was Wednesday and they were very busy. We had to wait 20 mins. The young lady offered for us to have a cocktail on the outdoors seating area while we waited. It was nice but next time however we will call to make reservations. Once we got sat we could see how extremely busy they were. The server was friendly and greeted us in a timely manner. We received our fig crostini appetizer and drinks and all were amazing. ( the summer sangria a must try) my friend had the goose milk I did not care for but she enjoyed. We ordered dinner a lamb burger, pork shank and a ribeye all were fantastic. Overall service was great even when busy food was perfect and we left very happy! Will go again. The only suggestion I do have is they need to have a busser on busy nights as our waters didn't get filled as frequently as we would have hope due the heat in the tiny bistro other than that a very very nice evening.

The formaggio was incredibly rich and delicious--highly recommend! Although important note: the lunch menu is limited to salads and sandwiches.

Driving through town and decided to try this place because of the great Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. Super cute little bistro and all of the staff were very friendly and attentive. Delicious bread with olive oil/balsamic dipping sauce. Large house "side" salad with their own homemade dressing was also very tasty. Both of us decided to try the special, which was an angel hair pasta mixed with skinny zucchini strings in a butter/wine/garlic sauce topped with chili spiced shrimp. Amazing! Had a little room left to share a scrumptious piece of tiramisu. I highly recommend this place and would definitely stop here again if we are ever in the area!

We loved it! The meatballs are awesome. My wife loved it and almost licked the plate! Try it

My wife and I had dinner here during our one night stay in Brookings. We shared the Caprese Salad which was excellent (fresh tomatoes). My wife had the ravioli special which she liked. I had the linguine with clams which had a very tasteless, watery sauce.

Stopped in for lunch on the way to the redwoods. Lamb burger with goat cheese was delicious and the pasta salad was tasty. Small restaurant with a good atmosphere. Lunch menu was all reasonably priced.

Based on Yelp reviews we stopped here for lunch. What a great find! The food (chicken caprese and melanzana) was delicious, especially the accompanying green salad, the service (Debbie) was great, and the price was reasonable. What more could you want?

Whenever I have the opportunity to visit my Dad in Crescent City, we like to have a dinner out. Unfortunately since Porcini closed, Crescent City has very little to offer in the way of quality dining so we had to branch out. Brookings, Oregon is about a 25 minute drive north on the 101 from CC, but if the meal is worth it, so is the drive. Happily, the Black Trumpet Bistro lived up to its Yelp reputation, in spades. My Dad anticipated the need for a reservation on a Saturday night, which might seem unnecessary for a little neighborhood bistro, but was clearly justified when we arrived to a full restaurant with only one reserved table for two by the window. We gratefully took possession of our table and were welcomed with a herb focaccia bread and rosemary/garlic infused olive oil with balsamic vinegar for dipping. It was delicious. From the wine menu, we selected a blended bottle of red wine called Conundrum, which was a perfect accompaniment to my father's Lasagna. I started with the house salad, a generous portion of spring mix with a very fresh and light house dressing, topped with fresh parmesan cheese, I followed it with the well reviewed Chicken Marsala on a bed of spaghetti with broccolini. I wasn't disappointed. The chicken medallions were tender and the Marsala sauce was very flavorful with mushrooms and garlic. My father enjoyed the baked lasagna, but seemed disconcerted to see it presented in a large ramekin. We concluded our meal with Tiramisu and coffee; a perfect ending to a delightful meal. Service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend.

OMG! Get the pork sliders!! Do not be tempted by anything else on the menu. I am so serious right now!! The waitress recommended them. My wife didn't listen, although her sausage philly was good, it could not compare to my sliders! Want to go back tomorrow for more!!

  • Matt R.

The food here is absolutely incredible! I'm just passing through, but I had the pork belly sliders, and I swear, they may have been the best thing I have ever eaten! I would rate this ten stars if I could.

Wow, this is a good meal no matter where you live or where it is being served. At first glance, this is a postage stamp of a place. However, if you are lucky like we were, there will be a table for you outside. There are at least 20 varieties of wine (sorry, no Franzia) for you to choose from. Both of my selections were great. The table ordered the warm spinach salad, with chicken, which was reported to be delicious. In addition, the lasagna was saucy and special, along with her side of red bean soup. My mac and cheese, which is anything but the one that comes from the box was EXCELLENT. Start it with a salad like I did, and you can't go wrong. This is a good meal. There is some real talent in that kitchen. Even so, there were just two minor complaints. First, the plate served with the break before the meal was too small, especially given the hunk of bread that is served. Last, there were perhaps too many visits from the wait staff, but this was always overcome by friendliness and attention to detail. Now stop reading and go!

Had the Lamburger with salad and it was awesome. Choice of music was also a plus. They had reggae playing.

What an unexpected gem! Spotted the restaurant while looking for a seafood restaurant and decided to try it on a whim. The best clam appetizer I have ever had (and I have had many) and the wide flat pasta with escargot and mushrooms was a delight. The special dish of vegetable ravioli with large shrimp was "fabulous" with enough left over for lunch today. The service was efficient and friendly. We will try it again before we leave Brookings.

Wonderful sandwiches and salad. Get the chicken caprese sandwich. Also the wine selection is very good, and they give generous pours. Overall probably the best place to eat between Bandon and Trinidad.

This review is at least a year late. I recently just moved away from Brookings and besides the ocean and trees, this restaurant is what I will miss the very most. The owners always made my spouse and I feel like it was another home for us and over the course of eating here at least once a week we had mostly everything on the menu. Rob and Kylie (sorry if I mispelled) were just about the nicest people I've ever met and their food is OUTSTANDING. I ate everywhere that Brookings had to offer, including the other high rated places on Yelp, and I consistently found myself coming back to Black Tempest at least once a week - nothing else in the area compares. My favorite meal: Caprese salad, Clams appetizer, and the ravioli entree. I live in Las Vegas now where amazing food is within a mile of wherever you could live and I still find myself missing this place. Thanks for such a treat! I'll be sure to come through every time I am traveling the 101 or make it back to Brookings -Brandon

Dinner is stupendous, One if not the best in town. We have had most of the appetizers there menu all very exceptional, I have personally tried the blu ribeye , the pork shank, and chicken marsala, all are out standing. The waitresses were great service was also, simply an all round great evening.

  • Jacqui H.

Phenomenal! This place exceeded all expectations in every way! The wine I chose was superb and paired well with the appetizer we chose, the flat bread, which was very tasty! The spacing of time between courses from our server, "Brr" was next to perfection! I chose the seasoned cod fish served over a zucchini pasta and rice and my date went with the lasagna. Both meals were exceptional, the best we've ever had! I didn't want to finish the meal it was so good. During our meal, the chef came out to the dining area to check in with all the guests, so we were able to personally tell him how amazing the meals were and be able to shake his hand. On to dessert, my date went with the cheesecake, and I chose the tiramisu. The serving size on the tiramisu was huge and the best I have ever tasted! Overall The ambiance, the wait staff, the food, the wine, the dessert, the service all together was the picture of perfection! Next time I'm in the area, I will definitely be coming back!

I am writing regarding the incredible meal and service for my mother in law's 80th birthday last night. My husband and I could not be there to celebrate her special day. I had been to the Black Trumpet previously, called and asked if they could do something special for my mother and sister in laws. Well, she pulled out all the stops! Clam appetizer, wedge salad, pork chops with zucchini spaghetti, flourless chocolate cake...all paired with wine. They said it was the BEST dinner and service they have ever had. They felt like celebrities. THANK YOU BLACK TRUMPET BISTRO!!! You guys rock!!!

  • Jimmy Y.

The first time I tried it for dinner it was great. The next time it wasn't as good. They are now open for lunch and I found that to be better. The food can be very rich which may be why I don't rate it higher.

  • Kellee J.

Good food. Excellent and attentive service. Will return if I pass through here again.

  • Kathy H.

The best chicken Marsala we have ever tasted!!! Truly delicious. My Hubby had the rib eye and he'd give it a 9/10. Trust us that's high. (He's had his share of steaks!) The warm bread with cold balsamic with olive oil was a great start to the meal. It was a wonderful lunch.

    (5)
  • Linda D.

We sat at the bar for lunch and enjoyed a couple of drinks before ordering a caprese salad and formaggio di capra sandwich, which we split. The sandwich as superb... the crusting on the bread was absolute perfection and we'd definitely recommend it and order it again. Nice by-the-glass wine selection for lunch. Our server, Debbie, was energetic and welcoming. We can't wait to try out the dinner menu!

  • Sal W.

This is one of the worst Italian restaurants I've ever had in my life. The noodles were overcooked by 15 minutes the bread was stale it was at least three days old it fell apart and was hard. The coffee tasted like nest café. The service was OK. How this could be rated so highly in Brookings Oregon is beyond me it was terrible I mean do not waste your time truly or money.

My family and I have eaten at Black Trumpet Bistro several times during the past year. We always receive great service and excellent food. It is quite obvious that the owners take a lot of pride in their work. The menu has just about something for everyone and some very delicious appetizers, I really love the flat bread pizza with sausage dish....My wife tears up the Blue Cheese Rib Eye ~! My family always has a great evening at BTB !!! Will be back

  • Shaina W.

I had spaghetti when I ate here a few months back, the place at first was nice. It was just my mother and I in the restaurant.. Their menu selections were good but they took a very long time to serve us our food. I believe they said their sauce and noodles were made from scratch. The whole time we ate our food dozens of fruit flies attacked us. It was distracting and annoying. I couldn't finish my food because I found numerous flies swimming in my spaghetti sauce, and that was too bad because my food was good. Yuck. Overall.... Eh.

  • Jane K.

Our second try at this place and the last, small portions and high prices will do this place in. Pasta was bland, didn't get our salad and there was no one else in the place, you can get the tourists business but local folks are aware. People aren't eating there a second time, we did and we're sorry we didn't go to O'Holleran's for a real meal.

    (5)
  • Jim D.

Not so good for the price. Nice, Olive Oil and Balsamic, but the bread was kinda like bland cake. No crust and fell apart when we tried to pick it up. Soup tasted good, but there was a very large amount of floating grease on top. Veggies were OK at best, the Brazed Kale tasted good, but the Broccoli Rab was tough. Steak had been soaking in red wine far too long, tasted like WINE not beef. Potatoes needed salt, but there was no salt to be had and the server was too busy to get over to our table. Pork Shank was delicious and tender. Polenta was watery and hard, not cooked nearly enough. I guess they were just having an off night, but wow, wasn't worth nearly what I paid.

    (2)
  • Pam Y.

Love it! Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Many gluten free options and they were willing to be creative and substitute polenta for the pasta if we want it. I had the Cobb salad with a wonderful vinaigrette dressing and my husband had the eggplant marinara with polenta. This has become a new favorite.

Great food, great people. It's heaven in your mouth! There's always some new to try with fresh, local ingredients as an added bonus.

Black Trumpet Bistro catered our sons wedding on Aug 1st for 90 ppl... Brookings is a small town so having an event catered can be extremely challenging... They did such an amazing job! Very professional and friendly... The food was absolutely delicious... All of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed their dinner... It was such a pleasure working with BTB... Thank you so much Kylie!

What a great little hole-in-the-wall gem we found. We had the special tiger prawn pasta, braised pork shank and polenta, and a escargot and brown butter pasta dish that was to die for. What a great suprise to have an upscale meal like this in the little town of Brookings.

  • Mike F.

Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Brookings. The homemade focaccia bread was awesome, homemade chowder was fantastic and the lasagna was made with love! This will become a Brookings go to for us!

  • Alice T.

We had a wonderful meal. I had the special: prawns dusted with Chilli and lemon - delicious! 2 of our party had the chicken with artichoke ( don't remember the name)- smoky and also delicious. One person had the lamb burger - "really liked it" . We also tried the tomato soup - very smooth! Great meal !

Great salads. Nice handmade marinara, fresh herbed bread, attentive service. Loved that the steamed clams had some kick.

On a road trip, randomly popped in here (yelp reviews helped) and was blown away. The pork belly slider is pure sex and the caprese salad was light and satisfying. Great staff, cool vibe, chill music! Just say YES and eat here!

Our family has had a place outside Brookings since before I was born and we are often there with our extended family. On those occasions, however, we tend to cook at the beach house and have hot dog roasts on the beach. This means not getting out to many local eating establishments. This trip, for a change, it was just myself and my wife and daughter and we like to go out. So when we were told Black Trumpet Bistro had been in business for two years we were blown away. We were glad we finally got to a place we were oblivious to before now. The owners were terrific and came out to check in with every table. The wife spent a good deal of time with us, advising us on what was especially fresh that day and what entrees would be good choices so we could get a variety of flavor profiles. We like to share, you see. Everything was terrific. We started with the Caprese Salad and the Warm Spinach Salad. Both fantastic. I especially liked how the spinach leaves were not overly wilted but just softened by the warm dressing. Yum! My daughter had the Spaghetti with meatballs, I had the Ratatouille Raviolli and my wife had the Chicken Marsala. All were delicious but we gave the top prize to the chicken. Incredible! It was made with a delicate mushroom with an amazing flavor. And the owners hunt the mushrooms themselves! It all started with another recommendation from the owner/wife...the Chantini Martini made with picketed chanterelle mushrooms. Sounds weird, right? It's a very unique, intriguing, and delicious cocktail. Like nothing I've tasted in martini glass before. Give it a shot! BTW, this would be a great place to bring a date OR the family. It's a romantic dining room and at the same time the folks running it are so friendly and engaged with the kid at our table and the ones next to ours. Maybe because they have a six year old son themselves. We understand he helps out during the lunch service. Cute!

My family has eaten at Black Trumpet on 2 occasions. Service is great they were attentive and thoughtful on both occasions. I'm not necessarily a "Bistro" guy but I do like to change things up a bit. The flat bread pizza and sausage sandwich are both great. I will be back. Thanks

Excellent Italian restaurant. Small (30 peeps max. Chicken marsala was delicious. My busband's dinner was great too. The other couple enjoyed their meals as well. Good service and food. Would definitely go again.

Black Trumpet Bistro epitomizes authentic Italian Cuisine. I had lunch and dinner there in the same day! The servers were warm and friendly, the ambiance is inviting and comfortable and the food is exceptional. Whenever any of my friends visit me I always bring them to Black Trumpet to enjoy the same experiences I do. The owners are on the floor, interacting and mingling with guests. If you have any questions or want to laws feedback they are totally open to comments and concerns. Give them a try see for yourself. Psssssss.....try the chicken Marsala and the Fig and Walnut Appetizer.

We dine here whenever we can as the food and the service are outstanding. Most of the restaurants in this town we compare to other restaurants in this town. That doesn't work with this restaurant. To find a comparable dining experience, you would need to look to San Francisco, Boston, New York or Paris. But wait, sure those places have good food if you want to spend a chunk of money and be bustled in and out with the other nameless lemmings that get shoveled through the mill - if you're lucky enough to get a reservation. What if you could have the same (or rather a better) culinary experience and be treated as the individual you are? What if the staff knew your name and your story by the end of your meal? What if their excitement about you choosing their restaurant was sincere and heartfelt? What if you were served by someone who actually waited for your answer after asking if "everything is OK"? Better yet, what if you could find a place where they made sure it was OK before delivering it to your table. We have some pretty good restaurants on this stretch of coast. We have one great one. This is it. You can spend a lot more and get a lot less elsewhere. 5-star quality, 5-star service and 5-star value!

12/7/14 Dined here last night with friends and my love and we were all in agreement....one of the best meals we have ever had. The bread at the beginning of our dining experience was amazing. Two had the blue rib eye....A+ one of us had the pulled pork....this came bone in and literally could be peeled off the bone with a spoon. A+ I had the chicken marsala....amazing! A+ The staff was great...very personable. All in all the best dining experience ever.

  • Barry E.

We went for lunch, having no expectations at all. We had heard about the great food served there, and had been told it was authentic Italian cuisine. To my surprise the food was bland and boring, and the atmosphere was so artificial it was sickening. The attempt at being a minimalist environment was sad. The butcher paper tablecloth was tacky, as were the rectangular plates. This place tries to justify it's menu prices, but fails. Anyone who has had an authentic Italian meal, or appreciates a fine meal will be disappointed. Overpriced and unimaginative are the words to best describe this joint.

This is our favorite place to go have dinner or to just hang out at the wine bar. The food is excellent! Rob continues to amaze us with his creations. A wonderful staff that engages the customers in a very positive way. If you are passing through Brookings Oregon you must stop at The Black Trumpet Bistro#

I am home from college and my mom kept talking about this new place, so we decided to go for dinner. It was so yummy and the staff is very welcoming. They serve focaccia bread with garlic infused Olive oil and balsamic to snack on while you wait for your meal. I had the gnocchi, which comes on a bed of green beans and a brown butter balsamic sauce. My mom had the braised ribs and polenta. We also got the breaded zucchini and chocolate torte. All of which were delicious! My mom has also tried the chicken Marsala before and she said that is her favorite so far. I will definitely be going back next one I am home.

We were just driving through and yelped the local area. We were just floored by this place I had chicken Marsala. The entire meal was hand crafted by an expert. The flavor reflects the honest hard work and effort put into meal.

While visiting Brookings we decided to give them a try, we enjoyed our dinner so much we ended up going back the second night of our stay for another amazing dinner. The food is fresh with wonderful flavors and presentation. The service was excellent. Hopefully the chef starts catching steelhead to add to his specials! Can't wait to get back to Brookings.

Disgusting meal. This is by no means an Italian restaurant... it is an American attempt and a poor one at that. The herbed bread was the best part of the meal, and was delicious. The rest was a mushy disaster of wet tasteless food which was badly presented. The staff do not like to be told food is substandard and in fact took the plate before I could explain why... very rude and unwelcoming and had the cheek to try to charge the full price despite complaint. (I amended this after they complained about my review and told me what I should write, as they discounted c.20% and think that's acceptable for an inedible meal). I initially declined to pay in full and offered $10 recompense to cover the wine ($6 per glass) and bread I had been able to eat. I was asked why I had ordered soup if didn't like wet food!!!.... I didn't order soup!!!!.... so was I given the wrong order, or are they making this up as they go along? The man was unaware I had offered some recompense and then tried to charge me the full amount again!!! This was met with threats to call the police, who I was told were on the way. In hindsight I should have let the authorities deal with it.... Do yourself a favour... save your money and go elsewhere.

Best meal I've had on the coast and a very good meal period. Wife had the soup of the day and lasagna and I had the house salad with my main being papadelle and escargot. How long has it been since you've seen escargot on a menu Staff was great and the owner came by three times to chat. With two glasses of wine and a beer bill was $52.00 a bargain. We will be going back tonight

My wife and I both enjoyed our meal. We both had the salad. Great dressing: not overpowering, but present in every bite. My wife enjoyed the lasagna. While I enjoyed the chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo sauce reminded me more of Stroganoff, yet still absolutely delicious! We both had the long beach iced tea [as per the recommendation of our server] (similar to the long island iced tea, but with cranberry instead of the sweet/sour). Very good! We will be returning again :)

I am a local and this was our second time trying this, and the first time was not a hit, so we will not go back. I ordered flatbread/pizza type appetizer and a dinner salad, my friend had the meatball sub sandwich. Flatbread dough did not have fresh yeasty taste, and more like Pillsbury dough out of a can. I make my own pizza dough so perhaps I'm too particular. My friends meatballs were more filler than meat, bland, even with sauce. Both our salads consisted of curly type lettuce with some decent dressing and parmeson, nothing else. Service: Food was slow coming out and waitress forgot my salad and I had to get up and find her to bring me my salad. There were only three people in the place including us (late afternoon).

Cute. Simple place. Got in late enough for happy hour menu so few choices but still delicious. Waitress was very nice, I think she was owner actually because she shared the story of the restaurant. Coming back.

We finally got to try it and we were both very happy with our dinner and the service was great. Went back the next day for lunch, had an idea of what I wanted (not on menu) the server didn't hesitate and I really enjoyed my light lunch!

This place is amazing from the customer service to the food I have zero complaints. I tried 1/4 of the menu I think and I cant wait to go back to try the rest of the menu! If your passing through definitely don't pass up your opportunity to eat here and if you live here then what are you waiting for! Thanks to the business and owners for a great experience!

Best place for lunch! Their sandwiches are amazing and my friend who got the local beer said "it was really good"

Finally tried this place and it was fantastic! They are now open for lunch (11:00 - 3:00). Yelp is not up to date and says they open at 3:00. The pork belly sliders are delicious and came with an orzo pasta salad which was also very good. Service was excellent and the chef even came to the table to check on us. After perusing the lunch and dinner menus, we can't wait to go back!

This small family run restaurant is a good bet for dinner in Brookings (where their are not many good choices!) The menu is small and attention is made to every detail. The staff was accommodating and the chef came out to chat with us during our meal. Everything was delicious, especially that Chicken Marsala!

  • David I.

I was driving through on my way to San Diego and stopped for dinner. I chose this place based on Yelp reviews and was sure glad I did. It is owned and run by a very personable couple, and is a low key sort of place, but nice. I sat at the bar to eat and chatted them up. The Chicken Marsala was excellent! Rarely do restaurants get this dish just right, and their version was juicy, savory and had the right amount of Marsala and mushrooms. The bread was also very noteworthy. I don't know how the chef owner has time to make it in addition to everything else, but I over ate my share there too. I had a nice glass of wine and some good cheesecake afterwards too. Prices were reasonable. Try it out!

  • Sean B.

The staff and environment are very welcoming. Aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The food is professionally prepared and loved as food should be. The pork belly melts in your mouth. The warm spinach salad will bring me back tomorrow and the Marsala is to die for. The signature dish explodes with flavor and is a must. I don't give 5 stars but it's time to break that rule and get down here people. This place knows what they are doing.

  • D T.

Very nice wine selection. I had the Gorgonzola Crustini and it went very well with the wine, which was $8 a glass. Ordered the Italian sandwich that was good but a little bit greasy. I will come again to explore the wine menu and maybe an app.

We both had the Chicken Carciofi and it was one of the best dinners we've ever had! We shared a chocolate torte for dessert. The service was exceptional. I would return in a heartbeat!

The black trumpet, one of the best places I've eating in a long while. Kylie and her husband do a great job of running the place...The restaurant is a little charmer...we had the lasagna, it was rich creamy goodness...they.also make their own bread...I could have make a.whole meal on just bread and wine...it's must dine if your in brookings.

  • Koolaid H.

I absolutely enjoyed the quiet and smooth ambiance of this quaint restaurant. Even though the menu was small and maybe a little pricey, the service was absolutely without a doubt outstanding!!! My soon to be wife is strictly Gluten-Free which around here is very hard to come by. The waitress and chef were so accommodating and friendly about her needs which definitely impressed me. Not only were they extremely friendly, but the dish they ended up making for her was absolutely delicious. Please give this place a try and know that you will receive excellent service.

Although this is my first time and I can't judge consistency. I give it 5 stars because I can't give it 10. This place blew my mind on each course. Mussels for appetizer, bread at the table, chicken marsala, raviolis. Tooooooo gooooddd. I'm not kidding. Go here now. The owner came out and chatted with us, he has quality ingredients and phenomenal recipes and touch. Amazing. 2,000 stars.

We had a great birthday dinner here. I had the warm spinach salad with chicken. It was the perfect size and delicious. My husband had the special of cod over wasabi mashed potatoes with a side of garlic(very garlic) squash. He cleaned his plate. The dessert menu was limited so we decided to pass. My only complaint is that the seating seemed a bit tight. I felt like I needed to stay squished up to the table in order to not hit the person behind me. We will definitely by back.

Valentine's Day 2015 we ate at Black Trumpet Bistro. Service was excellent, food was excellent my husband had the rib eye steak and I had the special of prime rib. They start off by bringing us some very excellent bread, the salad and salad dressing was very good and unique. The service was excellent and the husband and wife team that own and work the restaurant were awesome. We could not have been happier. Very nice wine list and excellent bar drinks! Would definitely go back and have dinner and would recommend it to all of our friends and family.

Everything was phenomenal from the bread and drinks at the beginning to the delicious tomato soup to the entree and finally the smoothest chocolate delicious dessert. Even the service was impeccable. The best meal and value I have had in a long time!

Awesome find! Quality home cooked meal. Had the fried zucchini appetizer. Perfectly crisp and light and served with a pesto and marinara dipping sauce. The marinara was my favorite. Also had the beef short ribs served with greens and polenta. The dish was perfect. The polenta and short ribs perfectly balanced each other. Also, the bread and oil/balsamic was outstanding. Great place.

Black Trumpet Bistro is great food made by a passionate and clever chef and service with a friendly smile and attentive wait staff. The ambiance is upscale bistro, but casual and fun. A nice place for a date or to hang out with your friends. We even brought our baby girl and had a nice dinner with side private room for when she got a little cranky. This is one of Brookings best places to eat. Make sure you put it on your list.

Great place to eat. The staff is great and so is the food. Spinach salad to start with. Wife had a dish with snails, I had the pork shank. All was outstanding. Highly recommend this place.

We enjoyed our wedding anniversary dinner here in April. The dining room is small, and there was a casual feel about the place. The diners ranged from single folks to families with children and all were made to feel welcome and valued. We really enjoyed ourselves. The food was very good, and a good value. The house-made bread with olive oil and balsamic was very light and tender. We each had a house salad, consisting of very fresh greens with a light Italian dressing and parmesan cheese. Not overdressed, and very tasty. My husband had jambalaya, which was well prepared. I had the chicken marsala and found it very good. The portions are generous, too. The desserts looked tempting, but we were too full to try them. The atmosphere is friendly, the staff is attentive, and the prices are more than reasonable. A real gem in a community with few really good restaurants. We highly recommend trying Black Trumpet Bistro - you won't be disappointed!

This place was awesome, had dinner on my wife's bday. I had talked to the owner earlier in the week n had flowers delivered for my wife. The staff put them on a table, waiting for our arrival. Those people were all awesome. The food was great, we had Calamari, capresse salad, she had chicken Marsala, I had the fish special. Top notch, we will be back. Wine selection was great. This place has the big 3 for us-excellent staff, great food, layed back ambiance. What else could you ask for?

BTB came out with a new menu about 10 days ago. We were so pleased with the options and new creations. If you haven't tried BTB, where have you been? You will not be disappointed. This is a one of a kind on the south coast, definitely a destination. Chicken marsala was again a favorite, but the new dish escargot pappardelle cooked with sage butter had a delightfully subtle flavor. Can't wait to try more on the new menu.

I loved it. The herb bread, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil for starts was savory. Cheese cake was the best ever.

I live in Brookings and this restaurant is a favorite with the locals. Their house salad and the dressing on it is the best I have ever had. Service is excellent you can tell that the staff is happy to be there. So glad they are open for lunch now also. And the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend them.

What an unexpected find! From the house bread (focaccia!) to the infused olive oil. From the handmade pasta to the perfectly and subtly dressed salad. From the kid's 2 cheese grilled cheese to dozen LOCAL taps... The success here is in the details. All too often while traveling you find lazy establishments in "pit stop" towns like Brookings but the Trumpet impressed in so many ways :-) the special I had was remarkable; perfect pasta, a well balanced red pesto with large prawns! My only tiff and what holds this back from 5 stars is the fact that my shrimp where overcooked, something surprising in a coastal town. Thank you for really taking your craft seriously, Black Trumpet, you were a highlight on our road trip!

Wow. Great menu selections. The food perfectly prepared and incredibly tasty. Very novel and creative appetizers and entrees. Lasagna was individually baked in a small casserole. Very rich and creamy. Home-made bread and pasta was the best we've had in years. Great wine list at reasonable prices. We live over 100 miles away over mountain roads and we will no doubt drive there just for lunch or dinner. Go there hungry and soon.

The food is excellent - I had the gnocchi (get it with the sausage), on a bed of well cooked green beans, and my family ordered the lasagne and the chicken marsala - everyone enjoyed their meal and chatting with Rob, the owner/chef/headwaiter/chief bottle washer. We also had the breaded zucchini appetizer, beers from the brewery downstairs, and for dessert the tiramisu and chocolate flour less cake. It was all well done and nicely presented, and the prices were fair. The only criticisms offered afterwards as we drove home was that the portions were a little small - but to my eye, they were just right, so perhaps adding some a la carte sides for larger appetites might be a good idea. And I thought the (corn?) bread was tasty but a little too dry and crumbly. Keep up the good work, Rob. I'll be back next time I'm in town!

It's sad to see a place that had such great potential go so downhill.... The first couple times we ate at BTB was great. Now, it is mediocre at best. The owner seems very interested in catering but is ignoring his restaurant. There is a high overturn of staff leaving the cooking to inexperienced people. The chicken marsala (which used to be excellent) tasted like it was cooked in chicken bouillon and was way over-salted. The pasta was overcooked. The salad did not taste fresh. The veggies were over-cooked and honestly soggy. The only item that I can say was good was the focaccia with infused olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I am not writing this review to be mean or critical. We used to love this place! I am really hoping the owners will read this and bring back the enthusiasm and excellent food they had a year ago. We wish you would put some energy back in to your restaurant...not just your high profit catering.

Bottom line, excellent service and even better food. We had the blue cheese steak and chicken marsala. Both were excellent. The atmosphere is nice and the staff very friendly and attentive. We will definitely go again when we are back in town.

Their Chicken Marsala is out of this world and very fairly priced. Good appetizers, I particularly like the sausage and polenta - so flavorful! Good servers and lovely owners (family run business). Well worth a visit if you're in Brookings. Gourmet food at just a little higher than cafe prices and good local wines.

I had dinner here last week with my daughter. She is moving to Brookings from the city so we were checking out the dining possibilities. We were thrilled to find the Black Trumpet. We had a wonderful dining experience and a delicious meal. I had the short ribs over a bed of creamy polenta and my daughter had the fish special of the night we shared a caprese salad with the warm fresh baked focaccia bread. It was all very yummy and we will definitely be dining there frequently when I come to visit.

We got here just as they were opening. I couldn't decide what to get as they didn't have my usual Italian favorites. I decided on the chicken marsala and my husband had the Italian sausage sandwich. Both were with out a doubt delicious! The fig crostini appetizer was yummy too. We were just driving through but I might have to move here!

Just spent a really nice evening here. Great food. Great menu. The owners really put their heart in this place. Had the special - shrimp with artichoke hearts and cherry tomatoes on penne. Yum. Focaccia bread. Super delish. We all had a great time and enjoyed it immensely

First off, people like Jane K are squashing and ruining small businesses that thrive off of social media reviews positive or negative. Stop being so closed minded and expect everything for nothing, and respect the owners and establishment that you are (barely) trying out. Go in open minded and take everything in, the decor, the environment, the staff, the music, the ambiance, etc.etc. Now down to business, I took a night off work to take my girlfriend out for our anniversary. We decided on black trumpet because we knew a few members of the staff. (Which isn't hard living in a small town) we entered the business open minded expecting only the best from the standard we have heard they had. The waitress greeted us and was extremely friendly and boasted a great smile. She told us that their daily special was a chicken breast on pasta in a wine sauce with green beans, I sprung instantly (rudely leaving my girlfriend hanging lol) I told the waitress that I was going to wait until my girlfriend was ready to place my order and ordered a glass of beer from a local brewery. My girlfriend decided on the lasagna and some wine. We were informed that the plates may take around 20 minutes. (Managing a restaurant I know that only means that the food is being made to order with only the freshest ingredients because there were only a few other patrons) we snacked on the bread with the oil and vinegar provided ---very delicious! We received our plates in about 15 minutes, they looked fabulous. Perfect portions for us at a very fair price. The food was cooked perfectly, the chicken tender and juicy, marinated to perfection. I tried the lasagna, great layers the cheese melted and creamy the tomato sauce was definitely made in house. About halfway through our meal we were greeted by both the owners (husband and wife) they made us feel welcome and at home there. I left my plate polished they probably could have reused it for service lol. My girlfriend couldn't finish her portion of lasagna (too big for her and probably me as well) so we took it home with us gladly. In recap: great food, great service, great atmosphere, will return again and again!

OMG! We have found a new go-to restaurant in Brookings on our frequent trips down Highway 101 to San Francisco. Tonight's discoveries: Chicken Marsala with Fresh, LOCAL chanterelle mushrooms. A light Marsala sauce that did not overwhelm or overpower the beautiful favors of those chanterelles. Second main: braised short ribs over braised greens in a bowl of beautifully cooked polenta. A Cline Zinfandel from Sonoma paired beautifully. The herbed bread with house infused olive oil and balsamic was a nice starter. Run by a husband and wife with care and attention. Wish they weren't three hours from home but we'll be back, every chance we get!

A beet salad to write home about. Par-boiled and perfect-pickled. On a bed of fresh spinach and served with house made bread. Simple. Beautiful. Delicious. Great tap selection of All Oregon brews. Great spot, great people.

Black Trumpet Bistro was our best meal in Brookings since we moved here 3 months ago! Quiet modern atmosphere, friendly husband and wife team owners, affordable prices! I am still thinking of the mushroom soup. This will be a favorite date night spot for us. Not only that but I see the kids menu has $5 plates and since they open at 3pm we could do an early dinner sometime without disturbing the couples on dates!

Amazing meal! This is a fine dining neighborhood bistro that you expect to find in Portland but can enjoy in Brookings. The night we were in the special was rack of lamb, which was cooked to perfection and served with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe - yum! My daughter ordered the gnocchi, which was hand made. As good as (maybe even better than) my Nonnie's! We also enjoyed the generous serving of fresh baked focaccia with olive oil and balsamic for dipping, I could have made a meal of that alone! Kylie's suggestion for wine was to die for! We topped it all off by splitting the chocolate tort. The food, the service and the ambiance were all top notch! A 'must go' if you are in Brookings!

What a treasure this place is. We stopped in for lunch and the food was very good. We had a very nice chat with co-owner Kylie who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Did not expect this great of a restaurant in a small, out of the way place like Brookings. Very nice beer on tap and wine list topped off our great dining experience. This is a "must stop" when you're traveling down the 101.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
