Great lunch! The falafel plate was one the bat I have had on the west coast. Hummus was good, staff was easy going and ambience was simple and good. Prices was great for meal as well.

Summary: Fast food restaurant level service but middle end pricing with an average $13 dollars for entrees. I felt cheated. Review: I wrote this while I was at the restaurant so the feedback was fresh. A can of soda costs you $2.50. Given that we had to seat ourselves I got the fast food impression instantly. Glasses are made of plastic and napkins are paper. The ONLY signs for this to not be fast food is the price and lack of fountain soda. I feel ripped off and I haven't even ordered yet. I'm not sure but I'm getting the idea I should order from the register, another fast-food sign. Yes, even though they served me the can of soda, I had to order from the register. Confusing! Our meal total came to $40.35. This had better be good food we normally spend $15 in this type of service. They did not give me a receipt, I had to ask for it. What place, be it fast food or high class, does not give a receipt? My wife who is a foodie says they either use left over rice in the dolma causing them to have a worse texture but the flavor is good or the alternative is that the rice was cooked too long. The food was good. Maybe even excellent. I didn't have any issue with the dolma the way it was served. I'm amazed no other reviewers pay attention to this kind of detail. But here it is. At the end of it, I still felt like they were taking money too easily while not giving the level of service in return that I would expect for such a costly meal. Too many negative points gives a place, that should get 5/5, only 2/5. I didn't give any tip.

Good stuff! Tried the mazza plate. It had all the goodies expected of mezze with the exepction of some raw veggies and pickles. Agreed on the flalafel. Some of the best I've had. Babagenoush was smokey and creamy. Good portions, although not cheap at $13. Can't wait to try the schwarma.

Mmmm...mmmm, mmmm. I had heard good things about Mazza Bistro and had seen it going in over a year ago. Finally took the chance to visit this establishment last week and it rang my noodle from ear to ear! Happy to hear that the choices my companion and I made were recommended by the staff (the Kefta(?) wrap with taziki and me with the Beef wrap with garlic yogurt sauce). Mine was so good! Hers was great, too. Perfect portion size. My only complaint is the flat bread fell apart at the end of each half wrap which made getting every last tasty morsel into my face hole a little messy.

Charming family-run business that aims to please. The food is very good. It's not up to Portland standards, but this isn't Portland. The owner very sweetly made me Turkish coffee (not on the menu, sadly) so I almost gave this place five stars just for their charming attitude. This was converted from a Pita Pit, so the ambience is what you'd expect (the bathroom key is for the locked bathroom in the corridor). Come to Mazza for reasonably priced, good Middle Eastern food served pretty quickly. Enjoy.

Huge portions (perfect for another entire meal at home!), amazing falafel, great location facing Mirror Pond and a very warm and inviting owner. I had the Mazza Plate. It had every middle eastern delight you can possibly imagine. The owner explained that the food was inspired primarily by the narrow middle eastern regions. Definitely give Mazza a try. You will not be disappointed.

Mike makes his falafel from scratch (and his garlic yoghurt..you gotta try that). This is a pretty damn good little place tucked away on the walkway. But I'm not just a customer. I also pick up their waste vegetable oil. And out of all the restaurants I pick up from, they have the cleanest stuff in town. Never burned, no floating fat, you can barely tell it has been used. This is because he replaces it before it gets polymerized at all. What does this mean? It means his falafel and french fries are cooked in the highest quality possible! Come check Mazza's out.

While waiting in line, I watched the chef delicately poke each chicken kebob he was cooking with a food thermometer. Talk about attention to detail. My hopes were high. I'd planned on a vegetarian lunch (I try) and was able to stick to the plan, ordering a $7.95 falafel wrap. The lamb schwarma was tempting but $12.95, not close to a quick lunch price in my budget. But fair enough, maybe it is ethically raised meat. The falafel wrap arrived in around 10 minutes. Not bad, but this was a weekday at 2:15. I was fine though, knowing about the precision taking place behind the counter. Falafel wraps can be terrible but they also have a relatively low ceiling, there's only so good they can get (IMHE). Well, this wrap was definitely about as good as they come: fresh warm pita, fresh tomatoes/cucumber, tasty hummus, flavorful tzatziki and falafel that was expertly fried so that it remained crunchy to the last bite. One BIG problem: two bites of the wrap had the distinct and unmistakable flavor of lamb. If I were a real vegetarian, I'd of been pissed. I'd strongly suggest keeping cooking surfaces and deep fryers segregated for vegetarian/meat items - particularly in a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant! Note: I guiltily enjoyed the lamb flavor. Four stars if not for the lamb flavor. Update/Edit: The owner DMed me, at length, to assure me that their cooking surfaces/utensils/griddles/fryers/knives are all *highly* segregated with vegetarians *specifically* in mind. I'd be skeptical, but based on the way he handled the chicken, I'm very much inclined to believe him. As such, I'm updating from 3 to 4 stars. I'll be back for the falafel gyro... And probably a lamb one at some point.

This place is amazing!!! I had the beef kebab plate and everything was perfect. I don't normally write reviews but this place makes me happy, so here it is. I hope you enjoy this place as much as I did.

Really really really delicious food. I ordered the Mazza plate & took it home to eat. The portion was way larger than I could eat in one sitting. And the food was AMAZING. I was super pleased with the quality and variety. Felafel, baba ganoush, hummus & rice with lentils (forgot what this was called) were all exceptional. I'd eat here at least once a week if I could! Yum!

I love the house salad with lamb. It is so tasty and healthy. I order it all the time! The house vingarette dressing is wonderful. Place is clean and help is friendly. Not fancy and parking can be difficult. But the food is great.

Consistently great tasting, quality middle-eastern food. The service is always friendly - they treat you like your eating in their home. I've had the shawerma wraps, kabob plate and falafel and they were all delicious. Everything is made to order so don't be in a huge hurry or call ahead. Price is on the higher side for lunch but you get what you pay for.

A bistro is not my typical place to go. I've never had great luck at any bistro. But tonight I asked my friend where a great place to go eat that has great meat.. He says Mazza Bistro. So my son and I go to Mazza... WOW! Tender, moist, luscious, flavorful cuts of beef.. My mouth waters thinking about it again. :-) Mmmmmm Mazza bistro has a lot of Unique and flavorful dishes. When I asked the very kind and outgoing young lady more about the dishes; She was very knowledgable and was able to elaborate on the dishes. She even helped me out by recommending to mix it together when you eat it.. After I found that out I found the taste to my palate was even more superb than eating it separately. I also found out that in their culture if you don't mix your food up when you eat it... It can be a sign of disrespect.. So mix up your food and Enjoy some fantastic dishes! Thanks Mazza Bistro for the Great dinner! We'll be back!

Large portions, friendly staff, fantastic food! My falafel plate included 5 made-to-order, perfectly fried falafel (crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside), house made hummus, tzatziki salad, and pita bread. Everything was fresh and flavorful.

Run little piggy ordered a medium and I would recommend ordering the large because it is just that good.

Just when you think it can't get any better at this delightful, small, farmily owned Middle Eastern casual dining restaurant it does. Because as of a couple of weeks ago they added Turkish coffee to the line up! I was in to enjoy the coffee for the first time today. Perfectly brewed with nuance of cardamom, perfect "body", perfect temperature at service in lovely demitasse cups and with a tiny "Turkish delight" candy on the saucer. The Turkish coffee was delectable. At only $3 it is also a good value. By itself or along with one of their Middle Eastern sweet goodies it is a delightful treat. So added to the sparkling interior, the warm greeting at the counter to take your order and the remarkably good Middle Eastern food (including THE best ever felafel and hummus) to eat in or take out, is another reason to say "woohoo" and "high five stars". Real Turkish coffee. Hooray!

Best shwarma ever! (Both the chicken and lamb). I also like the Middle Eastern cucumber salad they put in with the meat in their wraps. My boyfriend and I have been to Bend 3 times in 16 months and we always stop here at least twice during our trips. They also serve beer which I find ironic for a Middle Eastern restaurant, but hey, it's in Bend.

Great place to grab some lunch. A fairly large portion was provided which who wouldn't enjoy. My friend got the kafta plate and I got the lamb kabob plate. Both were delicious especially the kafta. I highly recommend it. The plate comes with the meat, rice, hummus, pita and salad. I wasn't able to finish everything but I thought everything was good, tender, and well seasoned. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the mood to try something different or some Mediterranean food.

Came here on a whim with a big group of friends. Our friends who took us all here actually thought it was a Mediterranean food place. After learning it was Middle Eastern food while ordering we had a fantastic experience. The staff were super patient with us being clueless and very accommodating for such a large group. The food is nothing short of amazing! I can't wait to come here again and have been telling friends and family about it for a couple weeks now.

Mazza Bistro...where to start? I wish there was an option for more than 5 star rating! - Prices are very competitive for downtown, so if you don't want a formal sit down middle eastern meal, this is the place! - The atmosphere is set very well, much better than most counter service spots in town. - The menu items including all of the shwarma options are very authentic and loaded with lots of flavor - The service is always on par in regards to professionalism, casuality, friendliness and high attention to detail I highly recommend any of the shwarma plates! You get an entire meal ( meat choice, salad, rice, and tahini for under $15!)

I came here a little over a month ago for the first time with my boyfriend. He had been before and remembered it as being really solid. When we got there, we were welcomed by a gentleman (I'm assuming to be the owner). We were not sure what to order and he was so kind in helping us pick out a couple options that would allow us to try a bunch of their food.. That time we had the kefta wrap and mazza platter. Wow! Super amazing. We went again today and it was just as amazing. Same super friendly and great service. Today we had the kefta kebab plate and the chicken schwarma wrap. Again, we were so impressed by the great flavors. Thank you for another great lunch!

Whenever I'm in town I drop by and am NEVER disappointed...fast friendly service and hearty portions made up while you wait for either dining in or take out. I had lamb Shish Kabob twice and was delighted both times...very much recommended!

GREAT FOOD. I love small, locally owned family restaurants and thats what this place is. Got the chicken kabob and was 100% satisfied. If you are in the Bend area and like good ethnic food, make sure you put Mazza Bistro on your to do list!

Absolutely love this place. The staff, and owner/cook are fantastic people. Food is absolutely amazing. Highly recommend the beef kabobs. The seasoning is always fantastic. My favorite place in all Bend for beef.

Last evening for dinner we had the special: kifta kebabs on a bed of saffron rice accompanied tabbouleh and by the ubiquitous hummus with hubz ( Arabic bread). I did a take- out of this marvelous supper to enjoy at home. In every respect the dinner rivaled anything I had had in the Levant. Beautifully seasoned lamb and beef made up the kifta kebabs, and they were gently fried on a griddle (I watched!). The rice grains were properly cooked with another set of spices so that the grains were separate, not in clumps. All in all, the skill and creativity of the chef was evident, and professed one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in Bend, if not in Oregon!

My wife and I are Foodies so we expect great service and great food when eating out. When we "bumped" into Mazza bistro and tried there food we were pleasantly surprised. We love Lebanese food and their food was fantastic! The owner Michelle is from Lebanon and his wonderful wife Maxine is from London. They provide the character that you expect in the hospitality industry. And the Mazza restaurant is not their first, so they understand what it takes to create success. We love their prices and actually consider Mazza very reasonable considering the rest of Bend. The portions at Mazza are very generous. Mazza is not fine dining, so if you're looking for an amazing casual Lebanese food experience, then look no further...

My husband and I ate dinner here last night. I ordered the chicken kebab with a salad on the side. I thought it was delicious. The grilled veggies that came with it were great. I loved the hummus (my husband was not a fan though). My husband had the chicken schwarma and said it was a little salty. The meals were served with two giant pita bread pieces which were really good. The server was really friendly as well.

Just came back to work with my "to-go" lunch order. The Chicken Shawarma was ok- it was just a little pricey. What really made this only 2 stars was the wait and the hummus appetizer: With no one in the restaurant and no one in line, how does it take 10 minutes to make a shawarma and put hummus in a tupperware? When I returned to my office to open everything up, I was sadly disappointed to find only one flat bread to dip in my hummus (literally... a small round flat bread that had been quartered). If they speed up the service, drop the prices a little, and beef up the flat bread that comes with hummus orders- they might have a chance of surviving. Otherwise, sadly, I think we will see another downtown location "For Lease" in the next few months.

"We feed you like family" -- oh my yes, and they treat you like family too! Mazza Bistro is a casual, family run restaurant, reminiscent of a neighborhood diner. A diner that you look forward to visiting over and over because the food is good and the people are truly warm and friendly--not the usual tourist town nice. The owners have recently transplanted from the Bay Area where they successfully ran another restaurant. They have returned to the family heritage and Bend is the beneficiary! We wanted to sample as much as possible so we shared two plates -- the Mazza Plate (12.95) and Kefta (lamb) Kebab Plate (13.95). I'm embarrassed to say that we finished them both and staggered out the door. Way too much to eat but self control was simply not in the cards for today! The Mazza Plate was highlighted by some of the best Baba Ghanouj I've ever eaten--mildly smokey, tender, not runny....just perfect. The Hummus was also perfectly seasoned, smooth and obviously homemade from freshly cooked beans. I'm not generally a Tabboulle fan but I'm now officially a convert! This was lightly lemony, moist and absolutely addictive. It's a good thing that there was a serving on both plates. Oh, the Falafel. Tender yummy goodness on the inside, surrounded by a tender-crisp outside that so didn't need the raita....but it was there....and fresh...and wonderful..... Finally the Majadara (rice and lentils) was served with carmelized onions. Oh yum. We should have just stopped right there. The Kefta lamb kebab plate was perfectly spiced and tender. The generous portion was served on top of basmati rice with a good serving of Tabboule, Hummas and pitta bread. Mazza Bistro serves a small selection of local draft beers which was a nice surprise and perfect compliment for our food. They also serve teas and desserts but that will have to wait for our next visit to the area. If you are looking for homemade Middle Eastern cuisine in a comfortable family restaurant, this is a place to try. You'll love the made-fresh-everyday delights and appreciate the family!

  • Dave R.

Great food, good portions. The Mazza Plate had a selection of wonderful dishes. The Kefta Kabob was good and one Chicken Kabob fed two picky children. Friendly server and the owner came out to have his picture taken with us. We're travelers who have sampled Middle Eastern cuisine from many places and the food was among the best. Really four and a half stars reluctantly knocked down to four due to the small space and limited menu.

Food was ok. There are better restaurants in Bend in this genre. And they seemed a little spendy for the fast food feel.

  • Wynn H.

Finally a great Mediterranean restaurant in Bend! The hummus was great, the chicken shish kabobs were good, the chicken schwarma was fantastic. The falafel was fresh and moist and very yummy. The baba ghanouj was amazing. Meals served with pita bread. My husband had the baklava which he said was one of the best he's ever had. Only wish they would serve naan with the meals instead of pita, but other than that it was amazing. Will be back.

Love this place! Have had the beef and chicken shawerma wraps, their hummus and pita and the dolma - loved it all! This is the best middle eastern restaurant in Bend. Last time I was in they had me try a few of their other dishes - great people, delicious food - highly recommend!

"The falafel is excellent. Flavors of sauces are dialed. Wish they offered Harissa sauce , but other than that I'm happy with what I got. Definitely coming back to try the rest of this menu."

    (5)
  • Patrick F.

The Falafel is like no other in Bend because of the soaking process involving the fresh Chickpea, and blend of family spices. NOBODY has that unique blend in Bend. The flavor it like no other and has a flavor profile that is truly the best Falafel in Bend!

  • Kristy K.

Very hopeful, but ultimately very disappointed. We ordered the shaved lamb wrap and a platter with hummus, banaganouj, stuffed grape leaves, falafel, a portion of lentils and rice, tabbouleh, and pita. The two stars are for the falafel. They were very tasty. The stuffed grape leaves were, we believe, store-bought. The pita that comes with the hummus platter at Strictly Organic was nicer than what we received with our platter. The lamb shawarma was not at all tender (very dry--I've made better at home) and I actually had to spit a piece out that was all chewy fat that obviously hadn't been rendered out of the meat. Without some major adjustments, I don't see this place surviving as a local favorite.

    (2)
  • Jennifer L.

I'm a sucker for a schwarma, so I was happy! It seems pricey, but they serve everything in big portions, so it's basically two meals! Definitely go in and try it out. Great location too!

After reading about the Mazza Bistro in the Oregon Legal Journal, my wife and i decided to give it a try. We were both very satisfied with our choices. My wife had the Mazza plate and I had the Falafel wrap and Hummus appetizer. Everything tasted extremely fresh. Both of our portions were more than we could eat. I will enjoying the other half of my wrap another night. We have eaten at the two other middle eastern restaurants in Bend several times and would give the Mazza Bistro an addition star over the other two because of the meals being fresher and tastier. The service was excellent and the owners and staff avery friendly. My wife said there are several more things on the menu she wants to try, so we will be back.

  • Hollis L.

I had the seasonal chicken soup today and I have to say that this is the best soup I have ever eaten in a restaurant in my entire life. Cooked to perfection, large portion for a low cost and absolutely delicious! My friend had the lentil mixed with the chicken and it also looked just as good. With fall upon us, soup is a wonderful choice for lunch and this one is worth every penny and more! The service is great, the people friendly and accommodating! I can not have caffeine so they made me tea with fresh mint leaves in hot water! Wonderful! Go, get a bowl of soup and then come back later for the Lamb! HL
