We've been here twice since moving to Bend, and I'm impressed! We took the kids here one evening, and everyone enjoyed their meals (spaghetti and pizza for kids, salad and pasta for parents). Service was super friendly. They also have a great lunch menu (not sure if weekends are included). Soup/salad/sandwich combos, pasta dishes for around $10pp. We'll be back.

When you're too tired to cook and you want some tasty options with outside pickup - this is it! Service is always spot on and very friendly. Lots of food options but keep in mind it is a chain restaurant - with that said, we've never had a bad meal.

Thoroughly impressed, they know how to make an amazing chicken parm. The sampler drinks were amazing as well; they give very generous portions. The food also came out VERY quickly. Absolutely loved this place.

We received a couple of free birthday entrees and dollars off coupons from Johnny Carino's in the last month, which led us back in to give it another try. We were pleasantly surprised. We're new fans of Bend's Johnny Carino's for what it is; a comfortable and well managed chain Italian restaurant location serving pretty darned good food . We're getting down off our high horse as it relates to chains and going back in here again. Here's why: MENU & PRICES: New menu offers more interesting choices at very reasonable, I'd even say low, prices. At lunch time there are "power lunch" options of about ten items all priced at about $8 that also include soup or salad. FOOD QUALITY: The place smells good, like Italian cooking, when you walk in and what we've had , in particular at lunch yesterday, delivers on the promise of the aromas. We chose two things. One, a vegetarian spinach stuffed mushroom appetizer ($10) off the regular menu and it was plenty generous to share or use as a main course. Six big mushrooms perfectly cooked to tender but not overdone served with a light tomato cream sauce and fresh ch oped tomatoes on top. The other a Spaghetti Carbonara ($13) off the daily specials menu. So many restaurants, in particular chain restaurants, make this bacon and egg pasta with a white sauce instead of using eggs as it should be made. It is also tough and go in kitchens that do use egg as to getting the eggs fully cooked when tossed with the hot pasta. So it was a true test of the kitchen for my husband to order this. They passed the test as this was as a very good dish. And it could easily have been shared to serve two. Three other big thumbs up for this kitchen. 1) The food was served hot by a runner from the kitchen - dressed in cook whites - when the server was tied up with other guests, 2) the runner came prepared with fresh Parmesan and a cheese grater to offer same, and 3) the food was appropriately seasoned, that is not the least over salted which seems the bane of chain cooking elsewhere. SERVICE: Now as before, friendly customer care from the moment you walk in the door. And our server at lunch, Cari, was friendly and efficient. Plus she knew the menu and could make recommendations and answer questions. AMBIANCE: Someone's idea of Tuscan Italian decor, much more tastefully done than other nearby Italian chain. Everything is sparking clean. The sound system is turned comfortably low enough to be able to talk over it. But if I could wave a wand, I'd have the change the 70's, 80's 90's popular rock music mix to something either Italian or more "Starbuck's like". Let's face it...some of these old rock standards weren't even very good in their day (Diana Ross' "Upside Down" anyone?) THIS N THAT: 1) CONVENIENT CURBSIDE TAKE OUT: Call ahead to place an order and you don't even have to get out of your car to pick it up. They have parking stalls for those orders which allow you to push button and have the food delivered to your car. With Bend winters what they are for snow and cold, that sounds like something we'll try this year. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in lot and level in to restaurant and throughout. 3) WEDNESDAY HALF PRICE BOTTLE NIGHT: On Wednesdays all wine by the bottle is offered at half price. As is true with most chain restaurants, the wine menu here isn't a deep one and the options lean to plebeian, but it works for what it is and has a couple very drinkable wines.

We used to live in Bend and frequented this restaurant. We did limit our choices each time and had 3 staples we always ordered. One was the bowtie chicken, dynamite sticks, and the italian nachos. These are all great items and taste awesome. The only thing is that the price is a bit on the high side. Otherwise the setting and staff are always great.

We went in knowing this is a chain and we were pretty impressed! We don't have one in Eugene and I must say I would much rather have one over Olive Garden! The happy hour prices are impressive and we really could have eaten off of what we ordered off of that menu but we had not been here before so we wanted to try a variety of things. The bacon mac with jalepinos, smoked chicken and jalepino ravioli, and the combo skilletini. We had left overs because there was obviously a bunch of food which was made to perfection. I would come back again if we are in the area. Now I know what I like and what the portions are like.

We came here for our anniversary. One of the reasons we chose Carino's is the gluten free menu. My wife has celiac and it is so hard to find a restaurant with a decent gluten free menu. Our server Jordan was excellent. The was our first time here and it won't be our last. Thank you!

My family and I went here last night for dinner. You guys never fail to impress. So happy with our meals and our waitress Melody. Always attentive and smiling. We will definitely be back! A must try! Especially over Olive Garden! Oh yeah and very affordable! :)

This is probably the best chain restaurant in the Italian sector i've come across. Happy hour begins at 2pm till close. Derrick at the bar - my spot of choice.- is an exceptional host. I love the Italian wedge and chicken tumble, both great deals, and Bombay Martini was 5 bucks and well-made. My go to spot for prices , quality and service.

There are few things that I am absolutely sure of. The sun comes up in the morning and sets in the evening. I will die someday and until then have to pay taxes until that day comes. Now I am sure of one other thing, the pizza my wife and I had last night at Johnny Carino's in Bend was the WORST pizza I have ever tasted anywhere, anytime. It was basically cheese on very bad pizza dough, served Luke warm and tasteless. I have never been to a Johnny Carino's before and did not know what to expect. They got my initial order wrong (no apologies) so we sat there eating a cheese pizza waiting for the one they got wrong (did I mention no apologies?) and at that point should have asked for the check and left. Instead they delivered our other pizza which unbelievably was worse than the first. I left feeling only one thing, I want my money back.

Great place. Great food. Been there twice during our four days stay in Bend during the holiday season. Good for kids. A lot of parking. One negative thing though - the second day our waiter was very pushy (i hate when i'm with kids and waiter lists all possible soft drinks - this is a marketing technique but it's uncalled for).

I did not like this place at all. I ate here for my birthday. The Food Was not anything like they were before. I am never going in there ever again! !! Do not eat here!! Olive Garden so much better!!!!

After a week of brew pubs it was time to get something different. We yelped and found Carino's and found oddly enough it was in a strip mall plaza and dimmly lit and half empty...uh oh. Luckily the food was good the service was friendly and it was a welcome change from a week of burgers and ribs.

I LOVE this place! I moved to Portland a year ago and have yet to find a replacement for this Italian restaurant. I either go to a place that's just too heavy or just doesn't quite live up to my Carinos-esque expectations. I wish they had a location up here, but sadly they don't. Staff has always been nice towards us. Only a handful of times out of the hundreds of visits we've had, has the experience been below standard. Bread is amazing. Spicy chicken Risotto soup is amazing. Spicy Romano Chicken is amazing. I love this place. They also have an Italian chocolate cake that is delicious as well, although there have been a handful of times where it wasn't "prepared" correctly and didn't come out as good. If done properly though, it is divine. This place is one of the reasons I want to move back to Central Oregon!

We slid in here just before closing (8:30pm) tonight after getting lost downtown while looking for another restaurant. We had passed by here on our way from the Holiday Inn Express and my wife said our door pass key gave us a 10% discount so we went back. I had the shrimp scampi and my wife had a half panini and salad. Both were good and we left full and happy. We got a hot loaf of bread to start with an olive oil, pepper and crispy garlic chips that were also quite good. Like a previous reviewer, I also wasn't sure they were open because of the lack of cars. There were only two customers in the lounge. A few more came in while we were there.

No way this place got 4 stars! Sure the service is good, sure the environment is nice, but the food is what makes a restaurant.. a restaurant! And the food is not that good. Stuffed Mushrooms appetizer- They had it in the oven a bit too long, because boy, it was dry. Calamari- The worst calamari I've ever had. Did they really make the calamari with mozzarella cheese and served it with marinara sauce? This isn't mozzarella sticks with squid in it. Well, that's what it tasted like. They should've renamed it to Squid Mozzarella Sticks. Some spicy chicken alfredo pasta thing (it was so bad I don't even remember the name of it)- Why is the word 'spicy' in the name? It's not spicy at all. Pasta sauce was bland, and well, who wants a bland pasta? I'm pretty sure alfredo sauce from Fred Meyer tastes better than this pasta, and you can get it for like $2.80, instead of $17. Seriously, there are better Italian restaurants in Bend. Try the ones that are not a chain restaurant. Yes, that means, no Olive Garden, too.

Never heard of this place so I figured I'd try it out... And although the Atmosphere and Service was Great... That's about as good as it gets. I'm not going to say that the food here was horrible, because I ended up cleaning my plate. It just wasn't anything special. Just because a dish is edible doesn't mean that its good by any means. I got the Chicken Alfredo and honestly I even prefer Olive Garden's over this version. But their desserts were really good.. More specifically the Turtle Cheesecake... Delicious...If you're one of the few people that actually have one of these restaurants in your area then I wouldn't tell you to avoid coming here... I'd just say keep expectations low.. And then you might actually be surprised. There are no locations near me so its safe to say that I will not be returning here to dine in... But if there was one... Now would I?? Therein lies the ultimate question....

I've been to Johnny Carino's several times and there food is good enough to come back to.My wife had the Angel Hair Pasta with artichokes, olives, tomatoes and cheese(optional).I had the Lasagna witch was good but if I didn't eat a half a loaf of bread it would not had been enough to eat.Value wise Johnny Carion's is a little high($$) for the amount of food they give you.

Chain Italian not my first choice, but it was close to the hotel and a good compromise for veg and carnivore couple. I ordered a spinach-stuffed mushroom appetizer as a main course. Wow! Fresh, delicious and plentiful, but it would have been a great topping on toast or pasta if you wanted more. This vegetarian gets tired of "pasta primavera"--usually any noodle with any old vegetable. Nice to get something different!

Many think the Carino's in bend is an Italian "chain restaurant," but my friends and I say no way...locally owned and managed by truly nice people, the service and atmosphere here is friendly, warm & non-pretentious. Think brick, brick oven, and rustic Italian; plus it's dark enough we girls always look good....They have a large selection of signature dishes; we had one of their favorites - the chicken/shrimp pasta in a tasty/justright spicy sauce. We started with their house caesar (perfect) and a Pomtini; a not overly sweet fruit martini. The chocolate cake dessert was amazing & luscious - two pieces of rich, dense cake oozing with frosting and drowning in vanilla ice cream. Need we say more but Mangiano!!!!! A great meal at a great price. #corvsmb

Over all was pleased with my experience at Johnny Corino's in Bend, Or. Wasn't at all busy so we were seated immediately . (And this was on a Saturday night around 7:30) Was introduced to our server who was very nice and sounded genuine and knowledgable but did have to check on something we had a question about. And I gave a challenge respectfully knowing the service I've/ we've been given. So I was thrilled when he said that he'd be up for the challenge ! So with that said, I hope he takes this and receive this to better his ability to be the best consistent & patient server he can be. So when our salads came he gave us the others salads? Which was easily fixable . He did keep our cups full. Our bread full without being asked. And everything came in a timely matter. The food here was of good quality and fair portion. All though prices seemed a little steep so this environment is on the higher end of restaurant . My disappointment came toward the end of our evening with a mix of "should I stay or should I go" because my conversation with friend was relaxed and we had nowhere to go. I guess they decided to close restaurant early last night early because they didn't have any other guest almost an hour early!! They actually turned there lights up as our way of being told they wanted us to leave. That was a little disappointing but also to say I could understand . We where the only ones there at that time. But still if you say your open from ?? & close at ?? Then you need to remain open if you have paying customers . Bottom line.

Dined here more frequently before Olive Garden opened and were never huge fans of this place. I never really minded but for some reason the family just never took to this place. They are creatures of habit that like to settle on one dish, make it their favorite and then drool in anticipation of dining there again. This never happened at Johnny Carinos. Whereas I like to try new dishes, without the family singing out in unison "Oh boy, Johnny Carinos!!!" It got to the point we never came here. Thanks to another reviewer (and Yelp friend whom I trust) Johnny Carinos returned as a blip on the radar. Kids are gone now, so I had only my wife to convince about going back here and...ta dah...our friends wanted to give it a try too. Still not sure my wife is sold on Johnny's but she'll take one for the team if we decide to come back. I thought it was good. Great, friendly service. Love the fresh bread and the olive oil & garlic dipping sauce. Entree was filling and tasty. It's been a couple weeks, but I'm pretty sure it was the chicken parmigiana with spaghetti. Lots of sauce. I like sauce! I definitely like the decor and atmosphere at Johnny's over Olive Garden. Just feels less corporate. I think my wife and "The Gang" will still opt for Olive Garden as their first choice but Johnny's is a close second and still on the list for us when the question arises, "Where shall we eat tonight?"

Stopped in for Lunch while driving thru Bend. Waited to be greeted and seated(3min). Was seated and nobody came to take order and ask for drink order.(5 min ) maybe 6 to 8 customers in the store. Got up and went to ToGos they were very busy, but did a wonderful job. The manager at Carinos at least acknowledged us leaving by saying sorry! Sorry for what not caring about customers and your business!

(From last year) We arrived to our Holiday Inn room in Bend, Oregon, later in the evening - maybe around 9 pm - and went looking for a good place to eat that was nearby. We passed by the standard Olive Garden and then noticed an Italian restaurant that we had never seen or heard of. Hailing from Las Vegas, we were not sure it was open as many cities are not 24/7. With only a car or two outside, we entered tentatively, it was warm, clean. The greeting was warm and quick. The male waiter/bartender was very helpful and sincere, offering full menu descriptions. The manager came by as well and offered the special-special of the day, that being the 'special of the day meatloaf' which was excellent. I complimented her on her knowledge of the menu special to which she responded she was the cook as she had released him earlier. Little did we know that between the 2 employees filling 4 positions - because it was near closing time - that we would have such a great dinner. In fact, the portion size was double because we knew all the employees that night. When the bill came around, it was discounted and we had leftovers! The food was very good, the service was excellent, and it was a wonderful experience that we should have posted earlier. We recommend it.

Too bad I'm only visiting Bend, Oregon. This was by far one of the best restaurants I've been to. Food was excellent-from the bread with an awesome dipping sauce with roasted garlic, to the entrees. We had the grilled bowtie festival with asiago sauce and a sizzling skillet of spaghetti with shrimp. The service, from the manager to the hostess to the food runner to our waitress Amber, was the ABSOLUTE BEST SERVICE I have ever experienced in my entire life!!! Everyone was extra friendly, going beyond just your average service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone!!! I mean who offers the best french bread ever WITH the roasted garlic and the oil separate to take home!!! Awesome, simply awesome!!

After reading the other reviews, I'm guessing they got a new chef because the food was AMAZING! PROS: We arrived on a Sunday at 5:30pm and were seated right away. They even gave my son an Etch-A-Sketch to keep him busy which is way better than the crayons and paper he usually gets at places. Our waitress was wonderful. She was on top of getting our refills and was extremely knowledgable about the menu. I'm a vegetarian and an very picky eater but she was a rockstar and totally patient with me. I had the angel hair pasta with artichokes and my husband had the New York Steak. My 4 year old had the pepperoni pizza which looked and smelled so good I even wanted some. At the end, the waitress helped us decide on a dessert which is no easy task because I have so many food requirements when it comes to ingredients. And of course it was the most amazing 800 calorie cheesecake I've ever had. CONS: My husband said the New York steak was a 3.5/5 stars. It was also rather small. In fact, I thought my meal was small for the price. It was the perfect size and I ate all of it, just seemed a little bit expensive for the portion. Also, not a lot of options for vegetarians. Even the soups were made with animal stock. So, other than that, awesome service, delicious food. We'll be back for sure!!

Came in solo at 9pm on a monday after a long drive from Sacramento. Took a seat at the bar and was greeted by Marco, who was extremely friendly and professional (gave me a beer sample when I was about to switch from the excellent IPA I just had. He saved me from the horror of a bad beer!). I ordered pasta with artichoke hearts, when I added mushrooms and declined the chicken soup Marco ascertained that I'm vegetarian and recommended the minestrone soup with a soy base (good call) Food came out fast and tasted good. Marco takes great care of his customers and should be commended. The only complaint I have is the limited menu options for us vegans and vegetarians, but overall, it was a great way to wind up a long day and get introduced to Bend :-)

Wonderful wait staff, they are always so friendly! The food is good for a chain restaurant. I have enjoyed everything I've ever tried from their menu. Favorites are spicy romano chicken and the pecan crusted chicken salad.

Goin' with the A-OK. We had good food there tonight with a busy waitress that was confident to say, "sure we'll do that" when we asked for something that wasn't on the menu. Reason to go back - good value with the Family Platters. We take two teenage boys, get a platter and 4 salads and bring enough pasta home for at least 1 other person. All of that for not much more than Carl's Jr or the like. Value would garner 4 stars for that deal. Over taxed wait staff were too busy, but we were pleased overall.

This is our favorite stop for a good family meal whenever we are in Bend. The menu has a nice variety and my kids love the bread and dipping oil. There are few restaurants where I can take all three kids, hubby with a very sensitive diet and leave with everyone satisfied. Carino's does it for us! I heard that one is now opening in Albany. Since my sister just moved there, I guess we'll have a second place to enjoy our favorite chain Italian restaurant.

Good selection of house favorites. Good bread. It is nice to be able to find these easily in various places. Great service.

Mediocre--and that is generous. Undercooked pasta overwhelmed with sauce and cheese. Will not be back. If you like paying too much for food that tastes like it came out of the frozen food aisle, have at it. Olive Garden is a better choice for faux Italian.

The food is just ok. Not even A-Ok. I would never go out of my way to eat here. Even Olive Garden is better, which isn't saying a whole lot. Macaroni Grill is better. And those are chair restaurants!! We will definately not be back.

Granted, there really isn't much choice for Italian food in Bend but this place doesn't cut it. My lasagna was cold in the middle. Yuck! Service was just ok, typical of a chain. Atmosphere is also typical of a chain. Overall our experience was completely unremarkable. Except for the food which was remarkable bad.

Came in the other night for "Mom's Night Out". Service was superb ... very friendly & helpful. Food (seafood fettuccini w/ alfredo sauce) was great & my drink (apple pear martini) was delicious!! I took off one star because salad was extra $. Will definitely be back.

Disappointing... We had asked for a full size pizza for my wife and I and they gave us a kids pizza. The server only charged us for the kids pizza but needless to say we left hungry and the server didn't offer to fix the problem he just told us he would only charge us for the smaller one... ugggggg!!!! The food wasn't great. The pizza we did have tasted like something we would get at an amusement park... overall not impressed...should have gone to Olive Garden which was just up the road. I've had better Italian food from a microwave pizza... the best part of the meal was the bread... and that's it.... yeah...probably wouldn't be back...The only reason it's getting 2 stars is because the atmosphere was nice...

Nothing I had hear ever blew me away. The best part of the entire meal is always the bread at the beginning. Save your money or go to a local place where you can actually enjoy your food.

So, hubby and I are visiting the in-laws. Mother-in-law offers to watch our 2 year old so we can go out. I think we were out the door in less than 10 seconds! At the time, I was 6 months pregnant and craving some Italian food. We'd seen this restaurant when we were driving in to town and had never heard of it before, so we thought we would give it a try. The restaurant was very clean and we were nicely greeted by the hostess. We were seated quickly (it was pretty quiet in there at the time, it was well after the lunch rush and well before the dinner crowd). Our waitress was extremely friendly and asked us if we'd ever been in their restaurant before. We said no, and she immediately told us all the details of how they make their pizza's, the best appitizers, and offered recomendations on meals if we wanted. She brought our drinks quickly and bread for the table. The bread was very good, and the olive oil dip was mixed pefectly! We ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer..which was yummy (I think I use the word yummy in every good review). Anyway, for my meal, I ordered the spicy shrimp and chicken. I was extremely happy with my choice! The meal was actually spicy!! Hubby ordered a pizza, which one escapes me, but he was happy with it. My hubby rates a wait staffs service by how well they keep his diet coke refills coming. This waitress got an A++++! It looks like they are opening one of these restaurants near our home soon, we will definately give it a try! This is a chain restaurant the ambiance is a bit more intimate than say Macaroni grill or Olive Garden. I would prefer this chain over the previous two mentioned

I do not like to go out for Italian food. It always bothers me how much they charge, when it is so cheap to make at home (I love to cook). No, I am not a tight wad, it just seems ridiculous to me. I also don't like to eat at chain restaurants. I would rather support local businesses. Given this, one would think Johnny's would be off my radar, but no chance. I like everything about this place, except the location (right on the highway, in front of what used to be a mall). The atmosphere is great, and every server I have had has been nothing less than wonderful. Expect a lot of Italian music, and someone very chipper, but not too overbearing. The bread and olive oil dipping sauce is a great start, but don't get carried away, because the portions are pretty sizable. I have not had the pizza or panini sandwiches, but the lasagna, Italian nachos, veal parmesan, and jalapeno roasted tilapia fillet are all incredible. When the Italian bug bites me, you can find me at Johnny Carino's.

I decided to try Carino's for the first time tonight and ordered some take-out. The staff I talked to on the phone were curteous. Carino's also has "curbside" pickup - after you call in an order, you can park in one of their special curbside parking spaces and push a button, and a waiter/waitress will bring your food out to you and let you pay there as well, so you don't have to go inside. I think the food is a little pricey, but they give you a lot. I had enough for leftovers. Besides the main course, they give you a salad and a mini loaf of bread. The food is very tasty. Overall I would recommend this restaurant. I'll go back, and I look forward to dining inside.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
