So, many people have been rumoring Hakatamon has closed down, lamenting loss of local authentic Japanese restaurant. One day I found new address on a white slip of paper at the register of Uwajimaya. That was my ticket to it's new location in cedar hills crossing.... Literally walking distance from where I live! The entrance way was magnificent with wooden board and it's name, wall has chalkboard texture and toned down gray time with clean rustic feel. Yet the pink/yellow light and leather seating made it classy. Table was separated enough to provide private dining and music was jazz, at right decibel so we could talk easily. Waitress was friendly and brought all of food practically at a same time, and no one was left out waiting. My friend had sizzling hot Yakisoba in which noodle was al dente, veggies were still firm and fresh. Soba looked good and tempura had perfect combination of crumbly outer exterior and moist shroom and vegetable, pretty sure it was not pre frozen. The veggie ramen, my main dish, was source of disappointment though. I've explored three cities SF (best) Seattle (decent), and PDX (poor). Noodle was soggy and clumped together, and flavor was dull. Topping was cut little too big too. I can tell stock was good quality, probably still had animal bone as base, but none of ingredients or miso was used to help makeup the loss of meat topping. I don't like eating meat late at night (takes long to digest) so I chose this option, especially since veggie option is quite rare. Next time for lunch I will get chasu and try again. To end it all, we ordered tempura green tea ice cream. This was pinnacle of deep fried ice cream. It was intricately decorated with strings of caramel sauce, petals of tempura containing partially melting ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipping cream. It had so many flavors and texture it was a grand finale. Hot tea was refilled many times and customer service was great. I am full and already looking forward to coming back again soon - just a casual walk from home :)

Good Sushi is hard to find in the area. This place has very good food. -1 star for the slow service, they need to hire more help!
(4)Jamie S.
Here for a respite from errands and appointments, I ordered the lunch tempura bento which resolved my Japanese food craving at least for this week. The tempura was light, crisp and rivaled what I might find at local joints back home. It came with a nicely dressed spinach salad and some pretty decent agedashi tofu. I just wish my grandma hadn't spoiled us on Tamaki Gold rice. Highly recommended; I will be back with friends.

So glad Hakatmon is back! My kids like my curry, but they LOVE the curry at Hakatamon. We finally have a place to go that we can all agree on. I will miss not being able to load up on Asian groceries while I'm there, but it isn't too far away to make the special trip.

Great Japanese food, excellent service, we've follow Hakatamon since Toshi ( the owner) opened his first Beaverton location back in 2003, my family and I are happy they are still in the area
(5)Feuy S.
Everything was okay. The hakata ramen's broth was nice and meaty, but a bit salty for my taste. And they use the really thin noodles, and I prefer the thicker noodles. As far as their yakitori goes, they have a large selection of meat/veggies on a stick, compared to other places in the area. I like how they have items like chicken cartilage, chicken tail and pork intestines. But boy, they are making a killing with this. The meat skewers are over $3 and you get 3 pieces. For the veggie skewers, its $2, but you only get 3 pieces of mushroom or 3 pieces of green bell pepper. Nothing really blew my mind. For future needs, I'll stick to Yuzu.

An admirable return to the west side. Most of the serving staff also returned. Favorites like yaki-udon, ramen and sushi of course are there and good and improved from the time they faded. Only time will tell if they keep it up but so far so good.
(4)Dayana J.
I'm obsessed with their Hakata Ramen...broth is beyond flavorful, noodles just cooked right...oh I'm in a happy place :)
(5)Maggie K.
All tame favorite Japanese restaurant!! Almost everything here is amazing, there is no better out there. After this place closed down for a period my entire family was so bummed but after discovering their relocation near cedar hills we couldn't be more excited. Their udon, ramen, grilled fish, tempura and sushi are all excellent and I have yet to find another Japanese restaurant that can beat them.
(4)Anna B.
We returned to this place because of the quality of food and helpful service. Everything we ordered was delicious - ramen, sushi rolls, and yakitori. Will definitely go back again.
(4)Nick B.
Very authentic but also accommodating to my family's "American tastes". The staff was friendly and patient. The place is clean and ...oh yea, the food tastes great! A jewel of Beaverton.
(5)Johnson M.
The food was amazing! Small place that gets very busy so go early. Also the location is not great, easy to miss.
(5)J K.
Glad we went back. My daughter wanted their shrimp rice ball, so we tried some new dishes. My Lunch Bento's Mackerel was delicious and the Egg Udon broth had lovely depth. Looking forward to returning.
(4)Mel G.
Oh dear. I could cry a small tear at how good the sashimi was here. sniff sniff. Awesome staff and in a great, diverse part of town. Highly recommend!
(5)Ashley T.
My dad and I come here once in a while to get their hakata ramen. They hands down have the best, most authentic ramen in the Portland area! Way better then other more well known Japanese restaurants. If you have never had authentic Japanese ramen, or if you just miss it, just come here and you will not leave disappointed.

This place is really solid sushi. I mean, the only reason It's not 5 stars is that I have just one or two better places in Portland, but for the burbs, this is the best I've found. Definitely not the cheapest sushi around, and in fact is across the street from a super cheap sushi place. But when I'm going to eat some raw fish, I want it done right and I want it fresh. This delivers. The salmon was very fresh and the dragon roll was amazing. I do love me some creative rolls. I got a to-go order and it was efficient and done right. The only thing is that the salmon belly was not as good as I've had other places. Maybe it was just a bad cut. But otherwise, solid food. I'm definitely making this my to-go local sushi place. Also, it looks all creepy and weird from the outside, but the inside is very nice and done well. Kind of a hidden gem.

I am so grateful they have been a consistent and reliable restaurant. Always great service and all the food and sushi is delicious! Our server, Yazu, was exceptional. He was very friendly and accommodating. There were 6 people and he gave each of us individual checks. He was always checking if we needed more water as well as making sure our food was good.
(4)May N.
Everything we got here was very very good. My ramen was super fatty and I'm not sure if it's suppose to be that way but I couldn't finish it, still good though! Karaage, chicken katsu curry, and beef rice bowl with egg was super yummy too. The curry was my favorite, not your average curry from a box. The dirty snd rice bowl came with a salad and miso soup. I really liked the dressing on the salad it was really tangy and gingery. The waiter was very helpful and friendly and was a lot of help when we had questions. I would come back again and try other ramen dishes!
(5)Skyy P.
Beautifully done. Great service, fresh fish and washabi.. I am glad they are back here.
(5)Amber F.
They have a vegetable ramen but it's not vegetarian. I came here to try the ramen, but wasn't surprised it wasn't vegan, especially after seeing the vegan section (with three options, two of which are tempura). My husband got it anyway and said it was a-okay. So I wasn't too sad to miss out on it. I ended up with the tempura and it was tasty. Typical tempura, nothing special.
(3)Anne H.
A group of friends and I decided to try Hakatamon when our first restaurant of choice was too busy to seat us. The staff was extraordinarily nice and accommodated our group very nicely (we had a vegan with us and someone who could not have fish). I really enjoyed my food. I had teriyaki chicken and a spicy salmon roll. If you've been dissatisfied with many other sushi restaurants in the area (like I have) you might like this place. I think their sushi is much fresher than I've had around the beaverton/hillsboro area.
(5)Peter C.
Juxtaposing menu intro - real Japanese ramen to be found with Chinese style wheat noodles? Different, yes, but not sure if they pair like chopsticks. Signature Hakata Ramen - pudgy porky broth with ca-shu, red ginger peel. The temperate unhotness of the fatty soup lessened the cold rain weather reward. Nevertheless the bouillon was not salty and sumūzu.
(3)Chris O.
They have very good tonkotsu ramen here and since it's new you can usually get a table in good time if not right away. I'm sure the rest of the food is good as well as they appear to be very authentic from the atmosphere (clean, and well,...Japanese style) to the serving style (the ramen was proper!). They even have some Korean stuff too which keeps my wife happy :)
(4)In B.
you know its authentic japanese when you see the restaurant is filled with actual japanese folks. :P we heard some great things about this place. apparently they were originally located inside Uwajimaya but closed down. their new space isnt modern but feels clean and cozy. honestly, their service wasnt the greatest but the food was all pretty tasty. it just felt a little disorganized.. price feels a bit higher compared to others.. they have a wide range of selections on their yakitori list. we decided to try the sampler plate and it was all very tasty. their ramen had pretty good flavors and their katsu curry wasnt too shabby either. i would love to come back and try some of their other dishes.
(4)Safiah P.
Went on a lunch date with my husband. It seemed very fishy on the outside but went in and was listening to reggae music. Good vibes, background music was super relaxing so it was a chill place. The food was great. The ppl were very friendly and nice. Will definitely go here again.
(5)Shawn E.
Loving their special pork ramen. This is the real deal. They made half the California rolls without avocado for me. Delicious food. I'll return for sure. Friends don't let friends go to Sushiland!
(5)Dean S.
Found this place on accident, and glad I did!!! Ordered a bunch of Nigiri, all fresh and for the first time in a long time I noticed there was more fish to rice ratio, we also did the 5 scewer yakitori sampler (pork belly, chicken thigh, beef tongue, meatball) which was all awesome!! Wife did the ramen noodle soup which was great with rich deep flavors, my son did the Cali roll which had more filling than rice as well which was pleasant. Most sushi places ive experienced stack up on the rice and give less filling or fish assuming as a filler....not these guys, you get more filling in your rolls and bigger cuts of fresh fish on the Nigiri. Great food, Great service, definitely recommend!!
(5)Lisa T.
Came around 530, pretty empty but soon after, it was almost full.We got the chicken katsu and the char su ramen. chicken katsu came with a small bowl of salad and miso soup. the chicken kastu was pretty good but i wish it came with more chicken! it was def not enough. The ramen was decent, they asked if we wanted it firm or not. and we said not firm, which was interesting cause ive never had anyone asked that. when i took a bite i wonder what the "firm" would be like since the "not firm" tasted pretty firm to me. The ramen bowl itself was big, but it was only filled half way. wasnt completely full after the ramen. But overall it was a good experience.
(4)Katherine C.
I've had nothing but pleasant experiences dining at Hakatamon. Not only is the cuisine here authentic, but they provide generous portions and great service. A must try is the Katsu Curry (I prefer the chicken), the dish is full of flavor and the reason I keep on returning.
(5)Patrick S.
Hands down, the #1 reason to come here is for the agedashi tofu. Get two orders if you're a party of 4, since I guarantee you will wish you had more than the 4 good size pieces that comes in each single order. The beef tougue and gizzard yakitori is not be missed here. The fried octopus was amazing, but definitely ask for some spicy mayo, since it doesn't come with any dipping sauce. However, it is still great without any sauce! The ramen was average to fair, which was kind of a let down since they say they're a ramen place. Not that it was bad, but I think the ramen at yuzu is better. Also, kukai is coming to Beaverton soon (tried them in Bellevue) and they're definitely our favorite ramen go to place. We'll be back, but mostly for the apps and yakitori-they're all reasonably priced, so getting a big variety of them all won't break the bank!
(4)Kelie M.
My husband and I stopped here for lunch over the weekend. The STT roll was perfect--literally perfect and delicious. I had the seafood yakisoba, which was excellent. And my husband had ramen, which he said was "good but not great." Service was quick, polite and helpful.
(5)Jennifer C.
Great service, personalities and food. can customize the ramen and they have a solid yakitori list. The chicken tenders were particularly good.
(5)Allan K.
Authentic!!!!!!! The ramen broth and noodles were delicious and perfectly cooked, served with a side of fresh garlic, made the broth even tastier and creamy. I topped my meal off with a side of KimChi! The waitress was attentive and asked about the consistency of the preparation of my noodles....simply yummy! She also recommended the Yakitori for dinner, I guess I Wil be back soon to try something new!
(5)Alex S.
Since I have moved to Portland I have been disappointed by hideous low quality pseudo Japanese eateries with equally appalling low information yelp reviewers who don't know any better. I think I have finally found a place that can do Ramen right. Hakata ramen actually has good, authentic tonkotsu umami. They even properly asked how I wanted the noodles done and came out appropriately firm as katamen. On top of that, the price was a reasonable $8.50 instead of some ass clown places charging $12 for a bowl of Ramen. We also tried their beef curry, which was gigantic, and although it wasn't something we were blown away by, was decent and authentic. I was a little worried as their menu is quite large, which is not something you'd typically see in a Ramen joint, but I am happy to report that this place has legitimate Hakata Ramen. I will definitely by back.

This is the same Hakatamon that used to be next to Uwajimaya. New location, but same great food and friendly service. I'm so glad they reopened. We have brought Japanese exchange students to eat at Hakatamon and they were impressed with how close it is to the food they get back home. My favorite dishes: ramen, udon, Saba, butterfish, all of the tempura, Hokke, and any salad that comes with Hakatamon dressing.

My wife and I have been to Hakatamon 4 or 5 times. This place has grown on us and is becoming a weekend standby. Pros: I cannot say that it's amazing on any point, but they do serve some decent yakitori that passes muster, and they make a fair effort at almost everything they serve. There are a few things that are maybe mediocre, but I think this is because they have so many items on the menu. The big menu provides for a nice mix of Japanese though, so I won't complain. It's nice to have some izakaya type items on the menu to choose from as well. They have yaki-onigiri which I love, but I wish they would add some different filling options. They also have some decent ramen. It's also relatively cheap. The service has always been really friendly prompt, even when they are busy. I think the staff is starting to remember us now. The owner is also friendly and jumped into a little small talk with my wife knowing she was Japanese too. Cons: It looks like they got their furniture out of some cheap taqueria that went out of business in some abandoned strip mall. The handicap labels on half of the tables make me wonder where the furniture really came from. The fact that Hakataman is actually in decrepit strip mall completes the picture. No big deal, it seems like the business is doing well, so maybe he'll invest in some new tables and chairs at some point. It's the food that matters. It's also been getting pretty busy lately so you might need to wait to get a table. We never have, but we've been sitting there eating while people start to show up and begin queuing. As I mentioned before, there's nothing that is "amazing" on the menu. It's all just good enough to remind you that the the Japanese fare in Portland could be better with a little more effort. My wish is that this owner tried just a little bit harder and it would be even better if he opened up a "real" yakitori place in a nice venue. Portland needs a good yakitori place and so far, this is the only place that serves a hint of what a yakitori specialist would serve. I'm sure he could pull it off. This place initially didn't impress us, but over time we've really come to appreciate what this place has to offer. There's good Japanese food here, at a reasonable price and the service is good too. This is enough to put it on the list of best Japanese places in the Portland area.

So we were up in the Cedar Hills area--an area we don't know at all--and decided to trust Yelp on this one. Oh, were we sooooooo happy we did! Wow! What an amazing find! We got there around 5:45 on a Saturday, just before the rush--but when the rush hit, the staff handled it with skill and grace. Our server, Kazu, was a delight. What a wonderful guy! So outgoing and friendly--my whole family fell in love with his awesome sense of humor and kind smile. His menu suggestions were fantastic, and the pork belly ramen I had...oh, I just wanted to hug him for the recommendation, and then go take a nap--I was so comfort-food comfy and deliriously happy. My kids devoured the chicken, and for as much food as we had, it was VERY reasonable. Kazu treated us like family--we will absolutely come back!!!!
(5)M S.
Delicious! Try the calamari tempura, very succulent and the spicy lobster roll is my favorite. Always fresh! Outstanding
(5)Marcie G.
Some of the best sushi and service I've had in Portland. Everything we had was absolutely amazing and daily priced too. Definitely don't skimp on portion sizes or quality. We'll definitely be back!
(5)Trevor L.
Even though this company moved its location from the Uwajiama location, it is still one of the best Japanese restaurants in Beaverton, Oregon. I deeply love their food, customer service and my dad has a close relationship with the owner at the restaurant. One of the waiters was a classmate in my Art history class at PCC when I was a student there. It is in the same location where one Chinese restaurant was, but that Chinese restaurant was only open for a certain period of time. However, Hakatamon is the best hands down.
(5)Chard M.
Some of the best customer service I've had. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious. One of those meals that puts a smile on your face.
(5)Bernard g.
Great fresh sushi and excellent soups. So happy we found this place after a long flight. Really hit the spot.
(5)Julia B.
Delicious, fresh sushi, tempura and rice balls! Can't wait to come back to try more of their yummy sounding menu items. Fun and festive, gracious waitress--we'll be back for sure!
(4)Jesica F.
Went there 2 weeks ago and got a bowl of ramen. I got the pork broth with some veggies. The bowl is too big, at least for me, and I couldn't finish it. 2 ppl can probably eat it together. The noodle is too big for me, I'm not a fan but the soup taste good.
(2)Meghs C.
Great food, great music! All around greatness!! I felt like I was back home in Hawaii (:
(5)Sashimi L.
So happy Hakatamon has reopened! The new place has a much nicer ambiance, complete with a "mon" in back. Usually I get sashimi or sushi because it's always wonderful but I heard such good things about the ramen I finally gave it a try. The noodles were good but the pork broth was out of this world! Rich & savory, really tasty! I don't get to Portland often but this will be a regular stop.
(5)Bob G.
This is a fairly small place tucked into the corner of a tiny strip right behind Standard Appliance. The quality of the food is excellent, and very traditional. I would give it 5 stars for the food alone, but the place is also fairly expensive ($$$) so it gets 4 stars. Highly recommended.
(4)sheral c.
I am always a little nervous about getting sushi from a place I have never been. However, let me tell you, the spicy Lobster roll was out of this world. We ordered a couple other different kinds of sushi as well and were not disappointed. The miso was good and so was the spinach salad and dressing. I will definitely go there again. Sheral - Hillsboro, Oregon
(5)Erik M.
Great sushi and hot food dishes as well. The Tuna Belly was some of the best I've ever had. The atmosphere was great too. I will come back.
(5)Alan M.
Yeah! Yelp finally got around to updating their website. Great food, wonderful service, and nice decor. What more can you ask for. . .
(5)Danny K.
This place has pretty authentic good tasting Japanese food. Good variety of stuff I had the Hakata Ramen with Gyoza combo. The Ramen is very close to the Shinsengumi Hakata Ramen I love in LA.! The Ramen portion is a bit small but just order extra noodle!!
(5)Serena Q.
My boyfriend and I were looking for a good ramen place for dinner and we ended up at this place since the first place we looked up (Yuzu) was packed. We were certainly not disappointed. The noodles were nice and firm and the broth tasted good as well. I highly recommend this place!
(4)Jane K.
Me and my friend ordered a rainbow roll and two ramen. The roll was really good but the ramen broth was too salty and the noodle was mediocre. We couldnt finish the ramen cuz it became more salty as we ate more
(3)Johnny B.
Japanese food... Very good. Quality is consistent. Prices are average not spendy. Cool atmosphere friendly service. Popular always. Parking is tight at this location.
(5)Megan G.
The only reason for giving this place 4 stars would have to be because of the poor customer service while ordering take out. Everything else was wonderful. The sushi was great. We had California rolls, miso soup, and dragon rolls. Everything was great. I wish that they would've given me packets of soy sauce but other than that it was great. :)
(4)Justin M.
5 skewer late was terribly salty, like they marinated everything in soy sauce and then after it was plated finishing salt was sprinkled on top. Even after rubbing it off it was still salty and gross. The dragon roll's shrimp tasted very fishy and the sauce they put on the top was a salty teriyaki and not a sweet fish sauce. I got sick from the meal and ended up throwing up right after. Not recommended!
