Its a buffet. I see a lot of reviews saying that the quality of food is below average. Again I will say, its a buffet. It is the best buffet in Beaverton and you will definitely find something you like. The food stays somewhat fresh because of how busy it usually is and there are a lot of options. I actually have gotten the to go a few times. That is how good I think some of it is.

It is Great here! Love this place! We came over twice during the time we stayed in Portland and both were very good ... The food are very fresh and tasty. We all love the steamed fish and clam, Korean BBQ... The waitress from Shanghai is very nice and friendly. The waiter from ShanDong is very hardworking!

My second trip here and have to say it was worse this time. The server lost a customers credit card, she was looking around for this the whole time we were eating. We were almost done eating by the time we got our drinks. I had to actually get up three times for someone to get our drinks!! How ridiculous!! They give you this look like you're crazy but they don't give a shit! The crawfish were bad and tasted horrible. I think they were old because the meat was grey colored. We were there at 7pm so it wasn't a weird time. Evening buffet is $15 per person. If anybody has a favorite buffet recommendation let me know!!

Decided to try this out tonight. Smelled a little fishy walking in the door. It all worked out. There is a tremendous amount of seafood in the steam tables, and it's turning over FAST. It was quality buffet. Lots of options and friendly helpful staff. I'll definitely be back.

I visited the Buffet Palace on March 18th, 2014 it was just before 8pm. We had visited once before a few years ago. I think our first trip may have been closer to the busy dinner hour. My memory was that the food was decent, and there was quite a selection of seafoods and asian foods that I enjoyed sampling and they tasted pretty good. This recent trip really soured my impression. Many of the foods and both the hot and sour soup and the egg flower soup were stale or old tasting. The sashimi that was displayed was really warmed to room temperature, the texture was off and the taste was very bland. I didn't think it was still good to eat. The sushi rolls that I tried were ok, but the nigiri sushi that I tried was very stale tasting. There were some Chinese style pot stickers out, they were really offensive to me, they were filled with a greasy, grisly sausage -like stuffing much too oily and heavy and not good. They did have some Korean style beef spare ribs out. I tried one or two on my first trip around they were not bad. I made a second trip to the buffet line and got one more of the Korean spare ribs, it was totally cold and the oils or fats on the meat were congealing in a translucent glob on the bottom of the meat, not very appetizing. I commented to the cashier at the counter that our foods were very disappointing he said we should have told him while we were still here, they would have done something to make sure we had fresh food. I thought that was the idea behind running a restaurant in the first place, you need to monitor the foods and ensure the quality is maintained, not let the foods get stale so that customers will be turned off to your restaurant. We will not go back here again.

Saw the dinner price and never bothered to try, I know I would be disappointed with the quality for the price they charge. For lunch, it's a solid deal for a lot of decent selections. Saw a good traffic for the times I have been there for weekday lunch, that's usually somewhat of an assurance that food is fresh, cuz u know, things can get ugly fast when the food isn't. Oh and not to mention the Chinese food choices taste semi-authentic, which is all I ask for from a buffet.

  • Ami N.

I took my sister to have lunch. She's from LA and being the hard critic, she liked it. It was lunch so the price seemed right. Today, I returned with my son. He said he wouldn't come back as the price was a lot more and tasted like a below average sushi establishment. Hit the place before 3:30p.m; otherwise you pay dinner prices.... "OUCH!"

I am not usually a fan of buffets only because the food is often stale/old tasting. This was not the case here. I loved the huge variety of foods and desserts. It was busy during the Saturday evening hour I was there so the food turned over quickly. I enjoyed the variety of shrimp and crab as well as the sushi selection. There is definitely something for everyone at this buffet.

One thing my mom and boyfriend have in common (aside from me) is pigging out at a buffet. It's a pretty sweet thing to have in common, to be honest. My mom wanted to bring my family and boyfriend here to indulge. They offer a large array of Chinese food with some American food (fries is all I can remember for some reason), a small sushi bar (California rolls, unagi, octopus, tuna, and salmon nigiri), and lots of seafood (mackerel, crab legs, crawfish, mussels, and salmon). We went on a Friday night and it was $17.99 a head, not including drinks. And unlike Hometown Buffet, for example, you pay after eating instead of before. I mostly had my eyes on the sushi, and it was mediocre at best. Same with all the seafood I had. The crawfish were itty bitty and you had to eat like six of them in order to really taste anything. It's definitely worth a try and you'll for sure stuff yourselves full with a larger than normal sized buffet.

Excellent food choices. Lots of flavors to choose from. General Tso's chicken was amazing. Would give it a 5 of the sushi was a bit better.

This place is by far the worst customer I've ever experienced in a long time. The server and manager were not only extremely rude, but the food was also terrible. Save your money and go somewhere you won't regret!

Great food! Nice, hard working employees. Came here for a visit in Oregon. Not too expensive, especially for all the food that they serve. Although, some of their food is a bit salty. They have a great selection of desserts, including a soft serve ice cream!

We've been to this place a few times this month during the lunch period, has been great! Staff are really friendly and attentive, more importantly the food is of a good quality. I usually expect buffet food to be mediocre at best, but the food at this place is lovely.

  • Joan N.

Good option of food. Front desk employees ( probably owners) extremely rude. I get it they don't speak much English so they don't say much, sure whatever... They are extremely unfriendly I should of just thrown their food away and left! I hate Asian services! ( well most) -I am Asian so I am not racist-

Reading some of the other reviews I get the impression people have high expectations when they decide to eat at a Chinese buffet. I don't make a habit of eating at buffet restaurants, but I have been to enough to know this one isn't bad (there is a terrible one in Los Alamos). The food isn't brilliant, but it isn't bad. There was a reasonable variety of dishes and the sushi was fine (for a buffet). Everything appears to be fresh, to the Pint where it was almost too hot to eat. Service was prompt and pleasant; typical of any buffet style eating establishment. If I am in town and have the need to pig out I will come here again.

Seems like people expecting too much from a $13 buffet from other reviews. I could see if i was paying $50+ then thier comments make sense. Other wise perfect for $13 Water glass was never empty - table wasn't filled dirty plates - service was good The selection is good - Crab legs are on and off - make sure to go when its busy, but that is the same as any buffet - there is tons of shrimp - variety is excellent. Remeber folks under $20 buffet dont go in expecting gourmet foods. We visit 2x a month or so

Went here for a family birthday. They had a great selection of food although the sushi left something to be desired I wasn't exactly expecting much. The hot food selection was great and the salad bar had everything I could want. Will go again!

I use to love coming to this place. However, we were in today for the senior lunch. As soon as we walked in we were whisked away to a table. I said " 2 for SENIOR LUNCH", but it appeared I was being ignored. In mid lunch the server flopped down our check way too early ...then rushed away. Humm...Red flag. When we looked at the bill we were being charged for a regular lunch which was about $6 more. When I finally flagged down the server to let her know the error she quickly responded "you need to tell us when you come in". No apology. She then left and came back about 5 minutes later and said the boss wanted our ID! I couldn't help but chuckle...we're both over 70! After we proved our age....still NO APOLOGY! We noticed the food has gone downhill as well. Guess we won't be back here again.

This buffet was great. Had a wonderful selection of food and an even better sushi station! Well worth the price. Their weakest point is dessert but by the time you're done eating, you don't need much anyways :)

I love buffets like this. A good assortment of food, hot and fresh, and most importantly everything was very clean. It's very unusual not to see buffet tables a complete mess, but on my visit even though it was busy everything was being constantly wiped down and cleaned up. Also I have always, always, always found that service at these places are not good. It's hard to get your drink refilled or your plates taken away because they really want you to lose your appetite. Not here. My water was being refilled every few minutes, and whenever I went to get a new plate of food my dirty one was already gone when I got back. Every time. In fact when I got some crab legs and I got back to my table there were crab leg crackers already there. Are they psychic? As usually I won't pretend the food at a buffet is ever better than the food you will find at a traditional restaurant, but it was all very decent, and most was above average even for a buffet. I will definitely come back the next time I feel like eating way too much.

All you can eat sushi! and I can eat a lot. The grill is good too. I dont like most of the warmed food, but I dont have to eat them, and a few are really good. I kept eating fried tilapia last time I went it was very good.

NOPE. NEVER. AGAIN. I had been here in previous years, and it wasn't that bad. Fast forward to a year and a half later or so and it's really gone down hill. Let me explain. 1. They have signs posted around the restaurant that detail how children need to be with an adult at all times. Odd...a bit. Now last night when I walk in the hostess herself had 2 children running about and playing with their toys in the middle of the walk way. One nearly ran me over as she was trying to seat me. Nice. 2. Service overall is fine. Attentive. 3. Food quality. It's gone horribly down hill. Everything from the Crab Rangoons to the seafood selection and even the fruit/salad bar. They typically have crab legs....but they were out...and they did not replenish. Actually, much of the food was not being replenished in a timely fashion. About the time I was going to leave is when they started putting out more food....of course. The Clams...gritty and tasteless. Couldn't eat them. Stuffed crab....even though it's placed in a crab shell they use the fake crab...REALLY!? Tasted awful. Grilled Calimari...they overcooked the crap out of it and couldn't eat. Green beans...can't really screw those up. Anything fried seemed stale and chewey. Hot & Sour soup was not hot nor sour. Tasteless. Gyoza was alright. Nothing special. General Tso's was SO-SO Chicken and Brocolli...again nothing special. I did my best to try a variety of items. Like I said before, this place used to be alright. But all in all I left feeling sick and disappointed. Not to mention after paying $14.49 for this hot mess they call a buffet. They either need to ramp up the quality or take down the price. I will not be returning.

This is a good buffet place with primarily Chinese, as well as a few Korean items and sushi rolls plus a good selection of dessert items including Western-style ones and fruit. There are several kinds of soup, mostly Chinese plus miso soup. Among the dessert offerings I liked the deep fried mini sesame balls which had a very good sweet black bean paste middle. The fried sweet plantains were good, too. The fried eggplant with fried tofu was decent but with a little sweetness that it doesn't need. I liked the stir fry with small whole squid and another stir fry with shrimp and other seafood. This is a place you can go often because it has a very big variety of dishes to try.

Well, I feel pretty bad when I saw some bad reviews about this place. Why dont you guys think about the good things to give them more stars? I have been here so many time and I am a picky customer. Nobody wants to pay more but everybody wants expensive foods, what the point? The food was good. It's tasty for Asians. The services are pretty bad here because they speak english barely. :(

Remember this is a BUFFET, so you shouldn't compare to regular sit-down restaurant. But still, if you can't find something you like here, you must be a little nuts. Everything is always fresh and there's a lot to choose from. The buffet area is alway clean which is nice. The only complaint is the table workers always have trouble remembering your drink choice, and they honestly always appear exhausted but try to put on a smile anyways.

This is a buffet, want diversity and options, you gotta come to Buffet Palace. I love it as much as my parents. We come very often, it's irresistible :P just thinking about it makes my mouth water and I just went a few hours ago! Anyways definitely a good place to eat. It's always veryy pricy but if you like the food it's worth it. Eat all that you can and enjoy the food :)

Hours stated they closed at 11pm. Showed up at 9:50 and they had most items cleared from the buffet, and closed the sushi bar. They told us we could order food from them if we didn't see it on the buffet, but that left us feeling like we were imposing since staff were obviously trying to get out early. There were even cleaning and doing closing duties next to us while we ate. We asked for a partial discount at the register since we felt there was no way we had gotten our $40 worth ($20 per person), but the manager argued with us and refused. She told us sometimes they close early, and will turn people away. I wish she had done that to us. I can't comment on the food quality because I know they didn't serve us anything near what might be considered their best.

Without a doubt, the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at in the Portland metro area. My husband and I decided to go here on a Friday evening for some cheap Chinese fare favorites. The outside is well-manicured, clean, and classy looking. Our hopes were high and we were hungry. Looks can be deceiving! We strolled through those doors and the smell of fish was overwhelming. And even though we thought that $16.99 was a little spendy for Chinese buffet entry, we decided to risk it. With large plate in tow we headed to the buffet. The food was a variety of Asian and American cuisine that looked pretty average, edible. We grabbed some safe-looking food and headed back to the table. Being a southern man, my husband was excited to try the crawfish. However when he broke them open, the meat was grey and rotten. The fried food was stale, chewy, and cold and the honey shrimp was unbelievably sweet and tasted old. I found that the only gem of that first 'go-round' was the sautéed mushrooms that had flavor but were stone cold. We scrapped our plates and headed towards the Mongolian grill station, thinking it was going to be our only hope at fresh food. To start, the grill attendant was extremely rude! We picked through what little meat and veggie selection they had and noticed they were out of noodles. We asked if they had any noodles left and the young man glared and slammed his utensil down, grabbed a handful of noodles from a neighboring fridge and threw them into the serving tray. I couldn't believe it! We scooted away almost apologetically, feeling unwelcome and embarrassed. The grilled noodle dish ended up being tasty, but the awful customer service left a sour taste in our mouths. We ended with icecream. We had three choices: vanilla, chocolate, or vanilla and chocolate. The only topping was an old can of Hershey syrup with a make-shift pump in it. Reaching for the spoons we spotted a used dirty band-aid on one and opted for a fork instead. Even though our waitress was attentive and kind throughout our meal she ignored our frowns and obvious contempt. We begrudgingly paid our $40.00 bill and hurried away. Finally on our way out, my husband needed to use the bathroom but the men's restroom and hallways leading into the restrooms were completely flooded! This entire experience was awful. There are so many Chinese dining options in Beaverton, I couldn't imagine finding a reason to ever come back here. I felt cheated out of my money. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to a living soul.

Having only been to this place only on the weekends, and having given the place several chances now, I'm willing to commit to the record: the weekend price, any time of day/eve of $16.95 is not a terribly good price point value. Buffet Palace does get points for variety; they offer menu items not commonly found elsewhere (froglegs, tuna and white filet sushi w/o the rice). The primary problem here is one of quality: anything under $20 (heck, anything under $50, probably!) and you know quality is going to take a hit, it's just a question of how bad, and what you're willing to tolerate and able to stomach--yes, litch-erally. There are readily evident weaknesses in Buffet Palace's offerings -- In theory, their trays devoted to steamed squid, sans any breading, is the stuff of legency; in reality, in try after try after try, the texture of their squid is decidedly 'off', which can only be attributed to age and quality. I noticed similar issues with much of the rest of the seafood sampled, including the mackeral, which is too bad, the seasoning they use for the mackeral is pretty dang tasty! I don't expect that this review changes anything, but I for one would be willing to pay more, for a higher overall quality of seafood. They are within striking distance! This place is obviously very well liked as is, as evidenced by the swollen throngs that are frequently seen here, including a high percentage of Asian diners. It was a Chinese Man, visiting the states, who in fact first recommended the place to me as one of his top two eateries in town. The general, broad appeal of Buffet Palace is well evident, but for now dwells in the never-never land of "could be better, should be better, why are they settling for not being any better?"

Bad food experience. Yes rude lady in front to greet you. Came in At 3:30 and want to charge for dinner. $15. Ok then. Bake salmon was terrible. Coconut shrimp seemed came from frozen. Hard even with mounds of coco sauce. All the fried food was so freeking greasy I could oil my car engine with it. Out of the selection I found maybe one thing I could eat without gagging. The sushi. The place seems dirty and grimy. Reminds me of treasure island buffet that closed several months ago. When I got home my stomach was upset I, ......... Well you get the picture. Never again!

Food quality is very low. Could not find anything worth eating here. The food wouldn't even be worth the money if they were charging $10. I would rather eat Panda Express and I hate Panda Express.

    (1)
  • Seungsoo L.

Found lots of hair in food. They didn't even say one word "sorry" and just threw them away and that was it. Terrible customer service. Just get Panda Express or something

Food selection limited. Food quality was below average. The sushi selection was better than most buffets but the entree were not brilliant.

  • Amy L.

I've tried this place twice. I say that this is your typical Chinese buffet they do have a great variety here but most food are catered to the panda express style food with a few authentic options. Food overall is subpar nothing stuck out as amazing. Most were overcooked, dry or the sauce is pretty much the same brown sauce covering another dish of veggies or meat. Love the egg tarts and the frog's legs sets it apart from other buffets. Otherwise you're better off dining at a Chinese restaurant. Area inside is dated not especially clean. More of like a worn look.

It's crowded (especially on a weekend night), cheap, and good. What more can you ask for in an AYCE? Sushi bar, Mongolian BBQ, soup, dim sum (though not a lot) Not the biggest choice selection, but what they do have is consistent and good. the seafood selection on the weekend is the primary draw. Crab legs go fast, you have to be watchful and zoom up to seize the moment (and your plateful.) The stuffed mushrooms are surprisingly good, a lot of cheese inside. Friendly people, and clean enough overall, even accounting for the usual running kids. Always refreshed selection. The dessert isn't the best, it's the usual stale fruit and pudding, but by the time you've gorged on 4 pates of shellfish, Korean BBQ, sushi, crab, and a lot of other dishes, you really don't feel the need to have much else.

  • Kristi P.

I had pretty low expectations going in from all the bad reviews and, well, the Chinese buffet factor. I was pleasantly surprised! I went on a Saturday night. There's a great variety including crab legs, steamed clams, crawfish, fried frog legs, seaweed salad, kim chi, build your own noodles, salad bar, soup, dim sum, etc. There was also sashimi displayed on a cold pack and a poke-like dish with Mae Ploy and a nice variety of sushi including BBQ eel, my favorite. The Asian fried chicken was moist, and the egg custard was yummy. I thought everything was appropriately seasoned except for the fried rice, which was bland. The food seemed fresh, but this may vary between peak hours. What do you expect from a buffet though? To finish it all off, the soft serve icecream was creamy--not icy. Everything was not perfect, but with the vast variety, you can find plenty of favorites to fill up on. None of the fried food I tried was noticeably greasy. The service was good--they immediately took our drink order and were prompt to remove our old plates and refill drinks. I waited a day to post this just to make sure--I'm happy to report I feel great! Not even a tummy grumble. :)

What do you want to eat? They have it. Sushi? Check! General Tso's Chicken? Check! Pizza?Check! Meatloaf? Check! Their strawberry cake pieces all have strawberries drawn on them to help you identify them. They have salad and fruit, but why bother with all of this other sugar and fat laden carb encrusted goodness. All for one low low price, it is hard to beat for just filling your gullet in one stop.

  • Lacey P.

Good for Chinese food, but lacks "Amercian" and questionable sushi and seafood. Buffets are known for not keeping food hot or cold, so sushi and sashimi at a buffet joint? I think not. American selection were cheese pizza, chicken wings and French fries. Desserts, go for the soft serve ice cream by the grill(No toppings to go with the ice cream) sure beats the cake bits-that taste funny somehow and the two giant trays of jello squares. They have fruit including bananas drenched in strawberry syrup-At least I think it's strawberry. Salad bar is small, but I wouldn't think patrons are thinking healthy, low calorie when they come here. Beer's cheap! $2.25 for a bottle of bud or $3 for "premium" beer. Waitress wasn't friendly, but a lot of people don't tip buffet waiter's, so I don't think she really cares what you think of her, she knows your going to stiff her.

This is my goto Chinese Buffet in Beaverton. They have a great variety of fresh dishes. I'm not a big sea food guy, but when I go with others who are, they're always pleased with all of the choices.

I kind of liked this place until my husband pointed out the worker cleaning up a spill on the floor with a cloth, and then cleaning up around the food with the same cloth. Ugh. Why does OCD boy always point this stuff out to me...?? At least it's clean? I don't know. I did like the string beans and the ribs and Princess liked the egg flower soup and the steamed rice, the inari sushi, and the crispy wonton thingy's. My mom ate fresh fruit and salad... it was a passable place to go for a buffet lunch, although we aren't serious buffet people. The servers aren't terribly interested in you, and the attitude is very much reminiscent of restaurants I used to go to in Chinatown when I was a kid. Hi, eat, pay, and leave. Which has it's place in society, I think, don't you?

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
