Impressed! Love that they were open on a Sunday evening until 9pm! This place was remodeled last January. Beautiful hardwood floors, nice couches, and a nice grand staircase now. The environment is comfortable with great with sailing and coastal decor. We watched a beautiful sunset from the bar. Truly impressed with this quaint, local bar! My husband's martini (Bombay, light on the vermouth) was perfect!

Not bad, but a little expensive for what you get IMO. The food is ok and the service is friendly. No complaints! Also a great atmosphere, I really like it inside.

We have always enjoyed The Wheelhouse. I love their house dressing and have tried to duplicate it at home with limited success. I'm not a seafood fan so I usually get the fettuccini or spinach pie. My family had gotten seafood though and have enjoyed it. This place isn't fancy and probably isn't the best food in abandon, but it's good and we have consistently had friendly and fast service. We live in Coquille and go a few times a year and will continue to return.

We stopped here after a cruise on Carnival. We walked the pier to watch the sunset, then chose this restaurant as many were closed. What a brilliant discovery this was! Madison, our waitress started us with a glass of wine and some bread and butter. She answered any questions we had about the menu with knowledge of all the restaurant's menu options. I had the spicy shrimp, my husband had scallops. Our entrees came with a side salad that rivals any side salad I've ever had. It wasn't the size, it was the creativity of it. It had baby shrimp, red cabbage, raisins and more, the house dressing was wonderful. My husband had clam chowder that he said was better than he had prior. It wasn't full of potatoes, like many do to cover up the lack of clams. It wasn't full of flour, like others either. Very tasty too! All in all, this meal was better than any meal we had on our Carnival cruise, and we had a lot! We would wholeheartedly recommend The Wheelhouse restaurant, and we hope you get Madison, as a waitress. She gave us excellent service.

An ode to the Wheelhouse Seafood Grill: No no no no no No no oh no no no Nope nope nope nope nope Save your money, not a very good meal. Singularly uninspiring. Except of course, it inspired a haiku. Salmon steak with crab in butter - salmon was very fresh but the thicker part was actually still raw on the inside. Crab in butter, kind of a hot mess. Veg and potatoes were uninspiring. My boyfriend's crabcakes were not very nice. The house salad, kind of gross, with limp little soggy shrimp and an overabundance of dressing. Waitresses were good, though ours was kind of sad and I felt like she needed a hug. She looked completely unsurprised when we asked for the check with our dinners half eaten. She was attentive, kept our water glasses full, and she's the reason there's even a star at all. Would not eat here again.

You know the food is good when there is a line out the door. Our group had a very solid, decent meal here for lunch. Seafood and chips, fish and chips, salads, wine by the glass. Everyone liked their lunch. The view is nice, and the prices were fair. This place is nothing to write home about but if you are looking for a decent meal in downtown Bandon you probably won't be disappointed. The only low point here is the service. We came at the beginning of lunch hour, and understood the wait being a local favorite but the service was painfully slow, and you could see seats available. The wait for beverages and ordering was glacial, and it was hard to understand given that the place didn't seem slammed. Still, I would recommend this restaurant.

I had the rock fish n' chips, and boy was it delicious! I wish I lived closer so I could try more on the menu! Service was great, and the restaurant has great views of the harbor.

Wait staff is very kind, but portions are small. Just go with the fish and chips. Pretty darn-ed good.

We ate lunch at The Wheelhouse--I had the seafood crepes and my husband the halibut and chips. Presentation was good, service was great, and the food was better than expected. I had a brief moment of concern after I placed my order, but the crepes were mild, delicious, eggy in just the right way, with a little bit of jalapeno heat. Also came with a side salad, which was fresh. We also had the fudge pecan pie. My husband was disappointed in this, but I thought it was adequate. We ate late in the afternoon; the dining room was almost empty when we left around four pm.

Awesome service! Above and beyond! The food was excellent, despite the line out the door. The waitress brought bread right away, because I was having a hypoglycemic episode. The entire night she was very helpful and attentive, without being overbearing. They were also very helpful, working around allergies and dietary restrictions.

Do yourself a favor and go to any other restaurant in Bandon. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had. The food is bland and overpriced. The clam chowder tasted like it came from a can, and my crab cake was so heavily breaded it was disgusting. My brother has severe allergies and were explained throughly before ordering. We kindly asked if the pasta was made with egg (which he is highly allergic to) and the waitress replied with, "all pasta has egg," ...completely false. He then gets his meal, to find that the vegetables had been smothered in soy (also highly allergic--made clear before ordering). After returning the meal the waitress made nasty gestures as though we were being difficult. That's absolutely no way to treat any customer, especially one with a life threatening disease. Please visit another restaurant in beautiful Bandon Oregon.

This was not a good dinner by any means. The Wheelhouse was recommended to us, and I was very surprised by the low quality of food, wait staff, and decor. I ordered a crab louis salad and the lettuce looked like it came out of a bag (and tasted that way too). There were several pieces of shell mixed in with the crab. I expect there can be shell, but this was way too much. My husband orderd the crab cakes, and they were raw in the middle and flavorless. Our waitress had to ask another staff member if they made oyster shooters because she didn't know (even though she had been there for many years as she stated) and then the other staff member didn't know. I prices for the food were quite high in response to the quality. I will not be going back and would only recommend to someone who likes gross food.

Our waitress was amazing and sweet. We ordered calamari shrimp cocktail and clam chowder for starters. Chowder was okay. Cocktail was good minus a few shells still attached. Calamari was overcooked and way too crunchy and the interior was chewy. Will never order it again.. My boyfriend got halibut and I ordered the clam linguini. His fish was so bland and flavorless and the side they offered which was red potato.. Was literally one small potato cut in half. Veggies looked like they came out of a bag and were tasteless. My pasta had no flavor or sauce on the noodles themselves and they tasted like they poured garlic chunks on it and that was that. I took a bite of a clam and was almost immediately disgusted by the taste I encountered. It tasted rancid and old. I told the waitress who was concerned and told her to taste one and she obliged and went in the back with a clam. She came back and said I was right it tasted bad. She took it off of our ticket but all in all the food was pretty bad. We will never eat there again or suggest it. Not worth the 15 min wait.

not the best experience. We went to Bandon for some seafood and candy. We tried this place for the seafood. Bad choice. Service was fine, but the food was well, sad. I ordered some scallops with a chili sauce. It tasted like the scallops were frozen. They were not seared well and were drowned in the chili sauce. A pretty terrible dish. My wife got the Halibut and chips, she said it was ok, but the batter was a bit heavy. My brother got the greek burger. He said it did not have any flavor and was just kinda blah. There was only one dish that the diner said was good. that was my son with the Peanut Butter and Jelly. Also they auto-grat if you have six people where most people do it at eight. Avoid this place and eat better seafood somewhere else.

We had the clam chowder and stuffed mushrooms upstairs in the lounge. It was perfectly delicious. This place has stood the test of time. I don't think you can go wrong here.

The seafood is usually cooked just right, pretty consistent. Good wine list friendly service downstairs. Not so friendly upstairs. View upstairs is good. Best fresh oysters around.

We came in with low expectations and left extremely happy. Everything is made fresh and in-house, from the salad dressings to the to-die-for desserts. The fish dishes were fresh, hot and the plates beautifully composed. The service was fast and accurate. We will definitely come back when we are in the area. We're so happy to have a restaurant to look forward to visiting in Bandon!

Really didn't want to go there because of the reviews but at this time of year a lot of restaurants are closed for the season. This is not your culinary type food but very good. My husband had the cioppino and I only had the fresh clam appetizer. Recommend the both. Nice server. Little stuffy air, but that could just be me? (Maybe a ceiling fan?)

    (4)
  • Dena R.

Steep prices do not justify the food quality or flavor, and slow and inconsistent service in spite of being only three units of customers. Would have walked out, but other places were closed. And the rain. Oh, the rain. I forgot my rule about not eating anywhere with the word "lounge" in the title.

My husband and I have eaten here many times. We are both a fan of the house salad ( I don't care if the pineapple is canned. It's good.) The fresh lettuce has sunflower seeds, pineapple, raisins and a tangy salad dressing. We always have a good meal and the service is always good. My favorite is the seafood platter.

Do not go here if you have a large group, or anytime for that matter. The customer service was horrific. We walked in and told her we had a party of 9 and she informed us that she had no spot for us & just walked away. I have never experienced anything like it!

Meh. Had better. plenty of fish markets in the sea in bandon. Try others. - The food: The prawns were juicy and cooked well. Had seasoning on them that enhanced flavor. The fries were good, crisp and not overcooked. The local Rock fish was terrible. It seemed to be cooked correctly, but smelled and tasted of ammonia. I dont know if that was from unfresh fish, or from accidental contamination, but it was inedible. Later had the runs that night, i can guess why. - The atmosphere: The atmosphere is quiet and dark. Good for someone trying to relax or have a nice quiet glass of wine. - The service: The waitresses were helpful and fast, although one is bright and cheery and the other is very quiet and stoic. They both offer good service. My only gripe is they didnt apologize or investigate the fish problem when i told them about it. Seemed not to care and just gave me my bill. So i wont be back here when so many other fish places to try out in Bandon.

Sadly, the Wheelhouse, where we have been coming for 25 years, has gone downhill. The salmon fish and chips, once best on the planet, are now soggy, dull and oversalted. And the butter mints are gone. However, the real experience was the waiter. I ordered one plate to share, but she came with two, a forgivable mistake when there are two diners. However, she insisted that I had ordered both plates and refused to take one back. We asked throughout the meal, and she left it and us alone. Finally, she announced that it could have been a misunderstanding and she would only charge us half and brought a box for the uneaten meal. Meanwhile, we ate fast, paid in cash without waiting for change and moved our car as her belligerence bordered on derangement and we did not want to see her again or have her identify our name or car. This was certainly our most bizarre dinner experience, and we are senior world travelers.

Wow, our last experience was horrible. First it took 20 minutes to get seated with no acknowledgment. (It was Monday and not much else is open or we would have left then.) We were seated and promptly given water. Then our true server came and dropped off 4 more waters. She didn't even notice till I said, ( Well, I guess we will stay hydrated.) We ordered red wine, she brought white. The food was decent, but nothing great. Expecially for the price. Then we got the bill... she charged us each $15 per glass of wine. (The bottle was $30) I told her the discrepancy and she wanted to argue with me. Finally got her to change the bill to $8 a glass, the price on the menu. She then ended up charging me for my friends lunch and my friend my lunch. Oh, we also had 2 little kids with us that were more than happy to sit through all of this turmoil:(

We had been searching for oysters in the half shell for days, all the way up the coast. The menu outside this place listed them. Yay! Once seated, after a rather long wait, we learned that a) draft beer isn't served until 4p.m. b) oysters aren't served at lunch. Words can't express...so we ordered a couple of glasses of wine and steamed clams. Our server returned to tell us that the clams were sold out...so then it was an order of two oyster stews, like a pan-fry. The sauce was amazing, so rich. Yum. The oysters, however, were overcooked to the point of being chalky. If you're old enough to have parents who made you choke down liver and onions? Like that: all texture. Yuk. I slurped up the sauce and veggies in it and looked for the bright side. We had a nice view and we enjoyed each other's company. The rest is oyster stew gravy...

I usually listen to Yelp reviews but the lack of choice in the area made the Wheelhouse seem appealing. Well, it isn't. The interior looks drab, and the place smells not quite pleasantly of food. The dinner got off to a good start with their very tasty clam chowder. Unfortunately the main course was below average for any seafood place I've ever been to. It was like what an amateur cook would produce. A combination of over-salted vegetables and fish covered in plain cream sauce. Not terrible, but definitely not worth the steep price. Look elsewhere.

This review is only based on dessert - we came right before closing, around 8:50, as there were few places open from which to choose. The Russian cream was a nice mix of sweet and sour creams with a sweet raspberry sauce - medium portion size. Also, we got a bread pudding, which was a gooey mess (supposedly with a brandy sauce) and in my opinion not worth the $5 or $6. Service here outshines the eating.

Moved to OR last January. My husband and I both agree that it is the best meal we have had in this state. I had Rockfish Yucatan and my spouse had Dungeness Crab Saute. Both were absolutely stellar. Our server was very nice and made great recommendations. She was knowledgeable about the fish and was very kind. My only suggestion is to tell staff not to stand around and talk to each other around customers. It is all about your guests!

A smoothly run restaurant with nice ocean view. The house salad was good, with a mildly sweet dressing. A modest wine list, so I opted for one of the several microbrews they offer on tap. For a small pitcher and the cioppino, the tab was $34, high for Bandon, but not compared to big city eateries.

Stopped in to the lounge for Monday Night Football. Small bar with a TV but the full restaurant menu. OK beer and wine selection. Cozy warm feeling but limited seating. The food is OK. I have brought visitors here several times. Probably won't anymore. Food is pricey for quality. Chowder is average. The thing that weighted this poor review was the fresh red snapper. Thickly battered is okay if there is something underneath it. Very little fish, and it was not the quality pieces of that fish. Slaw was good, and lots of fries to fill up with. I should have stuck with the salad I used to get with craisins and a terrific dressing. Good luck finding parking summertime.

A small restaurant, centrally located on the waterfront area of downtown Bandon. The menu specializes in seafood and is not very large. The food was okay, nothing special. I ordered the fish and chips and a small salad. The fish was not too greasy, but the batter was a little thick. The fries were thick cut and the cole slaw was mayonaise based and somewhat flavorless. Another member of my party ordered the seafood linguine, he seemed to like it. The last member in my party order a filet of some fish and several oyster shooters. She really liked the oyster shooters. Service was decent, my ice tea was never empty. The total bill with tip came out to be about $50, so a touch pricey for average food. It does have a very nice view of the marina, so on a sunny day it is not a bad place to people watch.

I would actually rate this a 3.5 star. Stopped for lunch with a friend and had the Captains Choice, which consisted of one oyster, one scallop, one shrimp and like two or three small pieces of fish and fries. The batter was good, not too heavy and the fries were a decent FSA/Sysco-type and just a tad overcooked or so it seemed. The chowder was good, not great, but good. It came with two small pieces of bread and butter that tasted GREAT! I like how their water has a slight orange taste and when the server comes back to refill your glass you see sliced oranges and a sliced lime in the pitcher- Really good! Service was good and fast. Price was a little high, but hey, when in Bandon you can expect that a little unless you want a corn dog or something like that. I would not have any problems going back.

Rolled into town late and stopped for a late dinner. We walked in 15 minutes before the kitchen closed and the host/waitress/bartender made us feel very welcome. Had a great meal of fish/chips, prawns, and crab cocktail and were very happy. Good stuff and quite reasonable.

Rebecca and I had dinner here tonight; we enjoyed it very much. We ate in the bar because the dinner room was full and we decided not to wait for a table there. The service was good, but not great; the bar tender was our waiter and pours his wine glasses too full, when a bottle is purchased. The wine list was good and fairly priced. Rebecca had oysters and enjoyed them; i had sauteed crab, which was very good. This restaurant does not try to be fancy. They do have good service and very good food; we got our money's worth and then some. We would go again.

Ambience in a old school well used interior the looks out towards the marina & ocean, a very cozy place to get out of the bad weather.. a little under staffed for one server, but nice and friendly and okay food. We only had a appi and shared the fresh fish which tasted fresh.

This place is great! Stopped in after the restaurant we were seeking was closed on a Sunday night. We've been traveling on the Coast, and were a little skeptical of another seafood restaurant full of fried food, but it was really the best dinner we have had in several days! They even served brown rice and salad that was fresh and crisp! Good kids menu! While the burger my son ordered and devoured was quite a lot bigger than a typical kids' burger, it was delicious and he loved it! Overall, the fish was fresh, the sides were good, the service was good, and we would go back!

We were just passing through town and needed a leg stretch and decided to get some food. The place was recommended in a Moon E - Book I had downloaded on my Kindle. My wife cannot eat Seafood and I love it so we needed a place we could both get what we want. This place is OK. It isn't bad but it isn't special either. I found the crab melt I ordered a bit overpriced at nearly $15 but it was good. My wife had a hamburger which was simular to what we could get at any drive in or sit down family style restaurant. We did feel the service was lacking. My chilled glass (for a beer) was dirty and when I pointed it out, the waitress removed it explaining that the desserts were stored above the glasses. No big deal get me a new glass right? Apparently wrong because she brought the same glass back just with the goober removed. I finished my beer right from the bottle which is how I prefer it anyway. The food arrived promptly but other service items like dropping off the check, running the card etc was very slow and they were not busy. I would eat here again maybe if on a simular trip with an hour to kill for lunch. Otherwise, I would give somewhere else a shot.

This is a solid place for seafood in Bandon. Service is friendly. All dinners come with sourdough bread, choice of house salad (which was really good: greens, pineapple, raisins, spicy honey based dressing) or clam chowder and a choice of potatoes. The crab sautee was really good so was the crab and salmon combo. Good choice of Oregon wines by the glass or bottle as well. A nice place to enjoy local seafood in a relaxed setting overlooking the harbor. Good evening and good food guaranteed.

A seafood grill. GREAT selection of sea food dishes that were cooked to perfection. Average price range $20. Good service, good ambiance, a little noisy. The first place I will go the next time in Bandon. Reservations recommended.

The staff is very friendly and the location is great, right across the street from the harbor. I had cioppino in a white wine garlic sauce rather than traditional tomato sauce. Chef made it special for me because I mentioned that I love cioppino but couldn't eat anything tomato based. It had a ton of super fresh Pacific dungeness crab, oysters, salmon and rockfish as well as sea scallops, cocktail shrimp and a few other delicacies. I was amazed. Usually with that much variety in one dish, you end up with overcooked and rubbery shrimp, scallops, oysters or prawns. Not only was the white wine sauce perfectly balanced and not overpowering but the fish and shellfish were all cooked PERFECTLY. Definitely on my list of places to go next time I'm in the area!

After deciding not to wait in line for standing room only at the fish market in Bandon, we made our way to the Crowsnest for lunch. The service was a bit slow but they were dealing with a large amount of people who were probably also not interested in standing out in the cold. My oyster sandwich was delicious and second only to the po-boy at the Schooner in Netarts. The view was much better than the other restaurants that sit on the water (see the pics).

I had some super delicious crab and my aunt had a nice tender piece of salmon. We made the easy decision of getting a bottle of the always delicious never disappointing Foris (couldn't decide between the Pinot Gris or the Gewurtz, went with the later and it was PERFECT!). It's a deal at $20, but not priced specially here at the Wheelhouse, it's always like that! Our server was a sweet girl with a nice sense of humor. She paced our meal well. The side salads were a fun mix and a good size (most of us didn't like the dressing though, oddly sweet and spicy - and I normally Iove things with that sort of description) and the chowder was SO good! The veggies served on the side were cooked to perfection (al dante), something I rarely say in restaurants, and the seasoning something I'd never do at home, but enjoyed more than I expected. We tried the Russian Creme (or something along those lines) for dessert and it was cheesecake-esque. The raspberry sauce was good. I wouldn't order it again, but it got finished ;) Next time I would try somewhere else, but would go back again, once I made the rounds. Thanks!

The clam chowder was good. My halibut was cooked perfectly, but was absolutely tasteless even though it supposedly had a lemon herb seasoning. My wife's Wheelhouse salad was blah.

The food was ok, definitely not worth the price. She spent $60 on ok chicken and fatty steak.the waitress was friendly when she did come by our table. When we were the only ones in the dining room, the waitress did not check on us because she was too busy talking about her boyfriend and some restraining order. She was sooo loud about it.

Spent one night in Bandon, so only had one meal and this was a good choice. The decor is dated and a little stuffy, but the staff were attentive and pleasant. The meal was above-average. The clam chowder was what you'd expect, but it arrived hot. The stuffed prawn appetizer was a highlight in all of our opinions because of the zesty flavor, however-if you don't like cilantro then avoid it. The salad contained pineapple and crasins, not really my speed but the others enjoyed it and the House dressing was original and delicious. The "Halibut and Prawns Romeo" was seasoned perfectly and the cream sauce was light. I nearly didn't order it because I was afraid it would be too heavy. The best part of the meal was our server Nicole. She was pleasant, prompt and friendly. The beer list was good but wierdest of all: There was a working clock in the dining room! They violated the cardinal rule "Never make it easy for your cranky customers to see how long they've been waiting" Overall, as far as seasonal restaurants in coast tourist towns go (and I lived and worked in Monterey CA), this one is AOK.

Stopped here for lunch on a drive down Hwy 101 last week. There was a brief wait before we could be seated, and it took a little on the long side before we brought water. But the setting was lovely and intimate, and the food quite tasty. My boyfriend's club sandwich was more than he could eat, but his fries were yummy (I snagged a couple). Prices were on the high side for lunch, but you come to expect that when traveling on the Coast.

  • Emily Z.

Stopped for lunch driving along the 101, and it was one of the absolute worst restaurants my friends and I have been to. The service and food were both abysmal. The clam chowder was nothing special, the Wheelhouse salad should have been listed as a side because the plate was tiny with clear lettuce out of a bag and canned pineapples. I called the waitress over to ask about a bigger salad, but she told me "seafood is expensive" and walked away. The fish and chips and fish sandwich were also a remarkably small portions. The waitress didn't ask us if the food was ok till we were done, and at that point didn't seem to care anyway. Stay away. In fact, just pass Bandon all together and try another town unless you're looking for that overpriced half-assed touristy seaside thing.

  • Susan M.

  • Theresa M.

  • Matthijs D.

I wouldn't order it again, but it got finished ;) Next time I would try somewhere else, but would go back again, once I made the rounds. Thanks!

Stopped in here on a recommendation from my father. Should have went to Tony's Crab Shack across the street. Pretty pricey for the small portions and marginal quality food.

We had a very tasty meal. It was the middle of the week in the off season. Service was good. I would go back.

The clam chowder was good. My halibut was cooked perfectly, but was absolutely tasteless even though it supposedly had a lemon herb seasoning. My wife's Wheelhouse salad was blah.

Lots of good food for the price. The view of the harbor is very nice as well. I found the seating layout boring and the resturant quite small.

Awesome service! Above and beyond! The food was excellent, despite the line out the door. The waitress brought bread right away, because I was having a hypoglycemic episode. The entire night she was very helpful and attentive, without being overbearing. They were also very helpful, working around allergies and dietary restrictions.

Shi**y service! I give one star for it being by the sea, and another because the waiters were pretty. Don't recommend, walk to the crab shack, much better!

Not bad, but a little expensive for what you get IMO. The food is ok and the service is friendly. No complaints! Also a great atmosphere, I really like it inside.

My husband's martini (Bombay, light on the vermouth) was perfect!

not the best experience.

Stopped in to the lounge for Monday Night Football. Small bar with a TV but the full restaurant menu. OK beer and wine selection. Cozy warm feeling but limited seating. The food is OK. The seafood linguine was pretty good. The salad was good. The calamari can be passed on. The chowder is pretty good. The view....Great!

Ambience in a old school well used interior the looks out towards the marina & ocean, a very cozy place to get out of the bad weather.. a little under staffed for one server, but nice and friendly and okay food. We only had a appi and shared the fresh fish which tasted fresh.

  • Andrew E.

  • Bill D.

Lots of good food for the price. The view of the harbor is very nice as well. I found the seating layout boring and the resturant quite small.
