Workers is home. Friendly customers. Friendly bartenders. Best breakfast in town.Served all day. Awesome Bloody Mary's, no Foo foo. The Bloody Mary you would make at home. If your coming from Portland or Seattle to the beach. Stop by the Workers!

I simply fell in love with Mary Todd's. We walked into this cash only tavern looking for breakfast and a stiff morning cocktail. We met Bobbi who was working the bar, and what a sweetheart she is! I see Mary Todd's as a little local treasure. The bar is wood with whimsical carvings from various travelers and locals alike. The have a very large outdoor area with a BBQ, tables and a fire pit. It is just my kind of tavern. We needed meat. The woman working the kitchen was a delight, and she is no stranger to grilling a steak. The Ribeye breakfast steak we ordered was cooked perfectly. It had a deep salty crust on it with a blood red, melt-in-your-mouth texture. I salivate thinking of it. A knife was not needed. If only I could find a place in my home town that could do that to a piece of meat. Locally farmed meat to boot. It had a sweet grassy flavor. The hash browns and eggs that came with the steak were pushed to the side. We should have ordered the steak with a side of another steak. I fully intend to stop at Mary Todd's every time I am in Astoria. I will most likely compare every steak I eat from now on with that work of art the cook made for us.

I really wanted to like this place and maybe I still do. To be honest, if it wasn't for Yelp there is no way in hell I would have stopped here to eat. Calling it a dive bar is being kind to the interior but then again that's part of its charm. We ate here on the 4th of July. Service was slower than a slug on a hot salted sidewalk but she was friendly enough and it was a holiday after all so I don't hold it against her. I'm not sure if you can eat outside (I doubt you'd get any kind of service out there) but it appears they have a pretty cool seating area out back. Anyway, the gf had a hamburger which looked pretty damn good. I had the prime rib which was also good. I wouldn't say it was a great value but it was flavorful and cooked to order. Frankly, I'd give this place higher rating except both of us came down with a mild case of food poisoning (mine was more mild than the gf). I must be in a fantastic fucking mood because I'm still willing to give this place another shot but after a night spent vomiting I doubt I can convince the gf to give it another whirl. If I eat here again and don't die I'd give this place at least 3 stars.

Walked in and liked the local small bar vibe. Smaller menu, but big food. Trust me! Burgers and beef are awesome. The owner came over to our table and spoke with us, very friendly. Cheap beers. Good stop for some hungry and thirsty with affordable prices
(5)Kevin S.
Looks like a bikers bar. You definitely get your money worth. Very good food. I didn't drink.
(4)Pages T.
Prime rib dinner, huge, juicy, seasoned just right and comes with potato, salad, veggies, and garlic toast. Husband was in heaven during this dinner. Staff was busy but attentive. Locals can get rowdy but hey it's the local bar. Happy with our visit.

I never understood someone having a business and not keeping it up. Feels to me they are just taking my money and running out the door with it. A little paint, some new tables and chairs and perhaps a clean mop on the floor would help. This place without a doubt is a dive that is supported by the locals. The food is good and the coffee is almost brown and warm. Sad for a place that is next door to a coffee roaster. Beer garden I hear is nice. Will I be back? That's an interesting question.
(4)John F.
Service is hilarious and the food rich. Can't beat the local banter and dice throwing. Best "Dive" in Astoria. Great crowd. Beware the Yucca!!
(5)Christina M.
Great place! Our bartender was the absolute sweetest lady ever. She stayed open till midnight, and smiled and chatted with us the entire time. Cold beer, great Bloody Mary!
(5)Raven S.
This place is great. Beer snobs beware: there are like two beers on tap, a hefe and bud light. Uhhhh, I'll take the hefe ;) The server with the blonde asymmetric haircut is a GEM who made a lemonade out of lemons and simple syrup for my boyfriend when she could have just said no, we don't have lemonade. (It was damn good as well!!) The Buschman burger is YUMMY and The Workers Burger which my boyfriend had was towering full of egg and ham, daaang. The fries make your fingers look microscopic! Big strips of addictive potato, oooooo! This place is not fancy at all, but it really delivered.
(4)Elwood P. D.
This bar gets my highest compliment....this is the kind if bar you want to be able to walk home from.
(5)R L.
Beware....this place is scrappy scrappy scrappy ! Even my son said it was the biggest dive bar he has ever visited...and that is saying something. However...they don't claim to be anything but a scrappy dive bar. The atmosphere is rough, limited beer selection, don't bother with the wine. The food did feel home made and was quite good for what it was. All in all...go if you know what to expect!
(3)Dana H.
One of my favorite dive bars in Astoria. No pretensions or expectations. They pour strong, keep prices reasonable and have great food. The fire place out back is what really makes it a special place. The crowd is fun to watch and easy to strike up conversation with. Great place for a fun night. But seriously though, beware the drinks. They will catch up to you quickly.
(4)Jason P.
Breakfast was great. The drinks were great. This is the kind of place you come to for a relaxed atmosphere, good food, and strong drinks.
(5)Meredith F.
I have been to...a LOT of bars. This is my favorite bar in Oregon, hands down. Every time I'm in town there's always a really fun experience or encounter to be had within this storied old room. Most importantly, the staff is incredibly friendly (hats off to our bartender/cook/server last visit who not only juggled all his jobs but gave us a free album of our choice on the jukebox and only teased us a little when my friend insisted on Grand Funk Railroad). On my first visit, my now-husband and I spent about two hours chatting with Ms. Todd herself. Memorable! People are all about the prime rib on the weekends; it's tasty but way too much for a moderate-eater like me; I dig the patty melt. Drinks are very strong; be forewarned. This is a must-visit if you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty.
(5)Avalon T.
Orgasmic burgers! Messy, full of flavor! Best bar burger I have ever had. The onion rings are fucking amazing. If I lived up here, I'd be a regular. Best meal I've had on my honeymoon adventure. Seriously this place is amazing. The atmosphere takes me home. :)
(5)Ron N.
This Bar is Old Astoria Style! You wanna let your hair down this is it! Very local crowd but you will fit right in in about an hour.I'm local and can tell you its some of the best food in Astoria by far! Try the weekend Prime Rib Special and come hungry!
(5)Kelsie V.
crusty old bar and I mean that in a good way---- their food looked really good. Although, I did see the cook drench the salads in dressing. ha. i stopped in after a random stop to Astoria. Bartender was polite and friendly, regular customers were nice to talk with. their decor was hit and miss. on the one hand they had some cool relics and mural type art, but then you'd see an empty wall ahead of you. Glanced out to a cute back patio area. Mary Todd herself was present.
(3)Dave B.
Great rib eye. Must be a good place if there's a bra hanging fron the ceiling fan! Cash only.
(5)Will D.
This place is great! Stopped by last night to enjoy a drink and a smoke. There is a firepit and chairs out back and it feels like home. Mary (the owner) was out there roasting hot dogs for her granddaughter and chatting with patrons. Everyone here seems to know everyone else so it's very local. Don't let that scare you away! Everyone is super friendly! Don't expect to get your ass kissed here as that's not how this place works. Don't be shy, go to the bar and ask for menus and drinks! The pours are generous and the food is fantastic! This is a meat and potatoes place so prepare to get stuffed! Came back tonight for dinner and meat bingo. Yes, meat bingo. LOL! Prizes are hotdogs, bacon, etc. There is also a raffle tonight for shrimp, canned fish, and a fresh caught salmon! Super fun and we'll be back!

I am completely floored that this place has any good reviews. We recently went to this bar on a Friday night and were 2 of about 9 people, the others being questionably 21 year olds and mid-50s. A very strange and decidedly unfriendly atmosphere. The sole bartender was disinterested in us all night until the cash came out to pay the tab, he sprinted over like an Olympian. Speaking of cash, when asked if the take credit cards, I didn't get a 'polite' no, but rather a grunt and pointing to the ATM. I can't believe this place serves food. It looks absolutely filthy. I enjoy a good dive bar, but this was awful. In Astoria you can do much better than here for both service and quality of beverage. My only thought is that there must have been a recent ownership change or serious turnover of staff because I simply cannot believe these positive reviews from what I experienced.

Oh my... We took a jaunt up the coast and what a beautiful city Astoria is! So much history, a lot of fun stuff to do! Ended up in a hotel across the street and hit Mary Todd's across the street! Great friendly service, and the best burger I have ever eaten! Fresh local beef, if you like bacon, fresh thick.. local and delicious.. great veggies and homemade potato salad n fries so delicious! Big burger , starts of at 9 oz.. I think it stayed at 9 oz! Hats off chef! Love this place! Local fun if you like a beer n drink that's here as well! Great people, hit the back and check out the bridge !
(5)David C.
Went back there for my second visit and the food was even better than the first time I went last September. I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries and it was one of my favorite burgers EVER!. Delicious & HUGE. All fresh with a great side of homemade fries. This place is really only for locals and bring CASH! There is NOTHING fancy about this place. No microbrews, nothing organic, just simple delicious huge portions of food with a couple of beers on tap or bottle and some delicious strong drinks. If Terri is cooking, the she will rock your taste buds and make you laugh. This is a Adult only place and well worth going in and sharing the experience with true locals. I love this place!
(5)Madeline C.
A really divey bar you should frequent with friends for hard drinking. Cute bartenders, good food, and a high tech juke box is all I really need tho, so... Edit: Okay so WOW, I finally had the prime rib on their special prime rib night and it was literally the biggest and best cut of meat I have ever gotten while eating out. You'll think the $20 is a little pricey but then they bring you this huge slab of delicious perfectly cooked meat and it all becomes worth it!
(4)Leonard C.
Awesome dive bar with great food. Glad I found it on yelp. In the hood...stop in...you won't be disappointed. Old jukebox. ..great burgers.
(4)Damon L.
This is a bar for real people. Leave your pretensions at the door... Or better yet back at home. Strong pours and a menu that doesn't fuck around. You get what you pay for here.
(3)Carrie P.
I'm a local, and Mary Todd's is one of those places that I've always talked about going to, but never been. Last night after 2 beers at another brew pub, we decided to head here for dinner. I am so glad we did! I had a yucca to drink, and a french dip with fries for dinner. Food and drink were both wonderful. Can't wait to go back for breakfast sometime. One extra star for the juke box.
(5)Bullwinkle J.
If I lived in Astoria I would become an alcoholic and this is where I would live. This dive bar gets everything right.
(5)Fiona P.
Looking for a dive bar with pretty good food, and drinks that will leave you toasty? Then Mary Todd's is your spot. I recommend going when Andy is working, as his drinks tend to kick ass, and I've only had the prime rib when he was working... It was damn good! Will you find a couple obnoxious locals or fishermen looking to howl at the moon a little? Yeah, but it's not bad, and once you tell one or two to shove off then they're all cool. I love grabbing drinks and cheaper eats here with friends because it's one of the only bars with group seating and quiet enough to actually talk to each other. Give it a try!
(4)Sherri B.
Excellent French Dip and homemade fries. Friendly staff. It was a good experience. We were traveling through and wanted to try the local flavor

Was just there for my birthday. Andy is an amazing lad who makes and serves a mean drink, as well as a Prime Rib Feast fit for a king. Mary's still is hands down the best prime rib dinner deal in the area. 20 bucks for a huge portion, flavoured well, with sides. I still couldn't finish it, and I can put away food when hungry. Chicken Fried Steak looked really damn good too. Nice menu selection with decent prices. Not foofy, but not of sub-par quality either. Great crowd for the most part (creeper, drunk fishermen will need to be put in check now and then...but no biggie). Nice mix of working folks, retired folks, folks of all ages, sad folks, and a few sexy folks. Great tunes on the jukebox as well. This is a nice local's neighbourhood pub. No frills, no BS.....just a decent place to spend a few bucks, have some good food, meet some nice people, dance, and get jarred on your birthday. Damn, each year gets a wee bit harder. I swear Andy adds more booze to my drinks each year to make me hungover the following day. I still love him though... we'd make ugly children together, and I'd be a gazillion pounds from all of the prime rib, as well as an alcoholic, hence why we must exist apart..... sigh.... At least I have my lovely lass to keep me warm on these cold coastal nights... Remember Boys & Girls -- CASH ONLY (ATM is on site)

Oh, hey guys. Do you like Bingo? What's that? Yes, it is your favorite game in the whole wide world?? ME TOO. A friend and I staying in Astoria for the night stumbled into Mary Todd's on a Sunday evening. We walked in right in the middle of a Bingo game, and everyone turned to stare. My friend and I looked at each other, feeling like intruders "Do we leave?" we asked each other with our eyes. A second later, everyone shouted to come on in, and they cleared 2 spots for us at the bar. The people were so friendly and so fun and the drinks were... well, they were drinks, and the Bingo was sooooo much fun I want to play allthetimeforever and we didn't eat (not a whole lotta vegan options here) but I just love this place so so much. The people were great, the vibe was great, everything was great. I will come back here every time I'm back in Astoria. Hopefully next time will be on a Sunday so I can play at Bingo again. First card's free, additional cards are .25 each. Doesn't get any better than that.

This place is great. Really good drinks and just as good food. The fries and burgers are really amazing. The bar tenders are very friendly and Mary is fun to talk with when she's there. We only make it about 3 times a year but we have a great time every time. Just make sure you have a DD and bring Cash.
(5)HK J.
I LOVE this place! My first time to Astoria took me and an adventurous friend to Mary Todd's. I reluctantly ordered a Bbq pork sandwich because I never find one half as good as what I grew up on- but lo and behold, she served me an exact replica of it! ^_^ Wonderful hospitality and ambiance - rough around the edges but down right polite. I make sure I go there every time I'm in Astoria.
(5)Sara M.
My mother in law took us here for their local drink- "Yucca" ....she lives in town and joked around about how she was going to take us to a REAL classy bar. LOL! Definitely a dive & local bar. The bartender was really nice! So, I watched her make this drink. I swear it was 99% vodka. A bit of simple syrup and a bunch of lemon juice. It goes in a mason jar w/a lid and you shake it until it's extremely cold and frosty. So, I was drinking said drink and not getting drunk at all. I was actually upset because I wasn't even buzzed. I got up and almost fell over. I was suddenly extremely drunk, lol. Apparently the food is good...cheap prime rib (18 dollars for a huge plate) and it was just an all around cool place. Oldest bar in Astoria, apparently? I'll go there again.
(4)S E.
Woo Hoo. What a trip. We just went for cocktails, which were expertly made and very reasonably priced. Go there for the people. Lots of fun things going on. Be sure and peek in the windows of the adjacent businesses.
(4)jason b.
Had a great chicken fried steak and would love to give 4 stars but they ONLY accept cash and no microbrews on tap; water-beers only. Really guys? I thought they outlawed that in the state of Oregon about a decade ago. I'll probably still return because they were so friendly.
(3)Brett N.
This is NOT a wine bar. This is NOT a brew pub. This is NOT a fancy restaurant. This is NOT a trendy cafe serving organic tofu and sprout shakes. The bottles of wine behind the bar have probably been open for a year, and taste like it. Your have your choice of tap beers. Bud and Bud Light. I'm pretty sure that's what is in all the bottles as well. The locals are LOCAL, and they know you aren't. So don't try to own the place or attempt to tell them how to make it better. You'll probably end up getting your butt kicked. The name actually says what it is. It's a worker's bar and grill. What you will get: Cheap drinks, a friendly bartender and ONE HELL OF A CUT OF PRIME RIB. That's all there is to the place, unless you want to read the bar graffiti. Nothing else to say!
(5)ChiKurt S.
Reminds me of a submarine Dive! Dive! awesome place for a beer.

Opened in 1924, Mary Todd's Workers Bar & Grill is recognized as one of the top ten fisherman-friendly bars in the United States. It's located in the small, historic, and pleasantly funky western part of Astoria known as Uniontown. I'm sure the building holds tons of history, none of which I was able to find in my reference book or online. They serve darn good breakfasts (all day) which I'd recommend the huge Chicken Fried Steak served with hash browns, three eggs the way you want them and four slices of toast for around $11. So if you need a good hangover cure I'd suggest the breakfast and a good strong, cheap, bloody Mary which you can dress up with all the fixings right at the bar. What you might really enjoy if you dig Dive Bars is that Mary Todd's night crowd is a little old and new school. My cohorts and I wandered in one Saturday night to a crowd of women dancing on a dining table, the music playing loud, a bunch of people around the bar, all well lit by the orange haze of dimly lit lights. The drinks are strong and inexpensive. Gin and Tonic? Three bucks. Beers? Less than that. They also have a nice back deck "under the bridge" that doubles as the smoking lounge. One person mentioned: "The funny thing about this place is it's like a vortex of fun. You never know who you are going to run into there, there is a great mix of locals and some visitors too, they have great tunes, prime rib as big as your head for CHEAP and it's just plain fun. " The people were friendly, especially Mary Todd, who you can find on either side of the bar or on the tables dancing with locals and tourists alike. Definitely somewhere I plan on returning to on my journeys.

Well Yelp let me down. I was in Naselle with my boyfriend for his Bday and we went here for a meal. Heard the bloddy mary's were good...They were yucky and small! The omelet was okish. His burger was okish. The place tho was disturbingly dirty. im not sure i should have eaten food from it...but i was living dangerously that week. The bar was funny tho, ppl pay $100 and then carve the weirdest and often misspelled stuff in it :) I'd skip it.
(2)Peggy M.
Yummy! Why is it that divey bars have the best food? And I do mean divey! I had a Patty Melt that was scrumdillyisious, with a huge helping oh homemade fries, and my hubby had a huge cheeseburger that he could barely smash down enough to take a bite, also with a plateful of fries.
(4)Matt M.
We wandered into Mary Todd's on a lark. It was Sunday night and the place was packed. Little did we know we'd found the weekly bingo game with host Simon. $0.25 a card we we're in for $2. We sucked down a Drop Top while we played a round of blackout and studied the menu, landing on a burger. Freshly made (i.e not pre-packaged from Sysco) with grilled onions & mushrooms and Swiss cheese served on a hoggie roll and a side of fresh cut french fries. Gotta say, it hit the spot. We were the only non-locals in the bar, but felt welcomed and chatted with some of the regulars. We'll be back the next time we're in town. Cash only!
(4)Mike A.
Like traveling but tired of being a "tourist"? If you don't mind cheap beer and a slightly seedy atmosphere then shed your inhibitions and step into Mary Todd's. Mary herself is a real character as are her patrons and she knows how to cook. The prime rib dinner is as good as any your likely to get on the Oregon coast and certainly better than the surroundings would suggest. I'm aware that Astoria currently has several more "upscale" restaurants and am unimpressed.I live in Portland, I can get generic "upscale" food every six blocks or so. Mary's iceberg lettuce salad is better than most in that the lettuce is freshly torn and crisp, the garnishes are fresh and she puts pickled pepperoncini on it. The prime rib is remarkably tender and moist. It is also obscenely large. In short, the food here all displays the grace of love. Do yourself a favor and split it with your significant other. I ignored my own wife's suggestion that we share an entree, and have yet to live it down. Why doesn't it get five stars? Because five stars is for places that make their own salad dressing.
(4)Jill B.
Mary Todd's was great fun! It was exactly as expected by the reviews...a workers bar...a dive...and friendly friendly friendly! We went on Sunday hoping for Bingo and we were not disappointed! It is meat bingo so the bingo master auctioned off our win for cash. Great evening and highly recommended for any who are tired of the typical tourist fare.
(4)Mr.Chow S.
MARY TODD'S IS NOT A TOURIST BAR. If you are a tourist and do not have thick skin keep moving. Go downtown. There are plenty of pleasant establishments there. If you are fascinated by culture's that are not of your own you may enjoy this place. Or if you like train wrecks. Or if you like booze. But not if you like beer. There are 2 draft beer choices: Crap and Crap Light. There are plenty of tables and no table service. When you go to the bar to order you will be passed over for locals who walked in after you and locals who need refills. You may also have to wait while the bartender tells a friend why her, uh, partner is back in County Jail. This is a test. If you can tolerate the initial neglect you are on your way to being accepted and even embraced. This does not mean you have to be pushed around. If you don't like the way you are being treated don't tip. No one else does. Don't whine about the beer selection, or the cash only policy, or the rants that are loud enough to be heard in Ilwaco. If you feel like staying for a second drink you are not a total snob. Patrons are loud, drunk, half witted, and un-inhibited. You will hear everything everyone has to say about everything in the entire fucking bar. You may realize that you are welcome to contribute to the conversation. So it is very social and that is good and unique. The food is actually really good. They have a big kitchen and take pride in serving quality comfort food. Special pricing for tourist: Tourist pay more for drinks than locals. 2 TVs that sit so passively you may not even notice them showing NASCAR qualifying even during football season. Some decent micro brews available in bottles.
(2)Rez B.
Classic dive bar and they make no excuses for it. Stiff drinks abound, nothing with more than three ingredients, so leave your foo-foo drink orders at the curb. You'll definitely run into some interesting characters, local and tourist alike. Oh, and beware the Yucca. Ice, crap load of Vodka, and some lime mix into a drinking jar. Wrap in a moist towel, shake 'till your arm practically falls off or towel is stuck to jar and feels ice cold and frothy - drink. Prepare for outrageous hangover, which begs your return the next morning for a Bloody Mary before leaving town.
(5)Todd C.
Marry Times is definately a locals bar. did that sound bad? i didn't mean it that way at all. it's were the locals go to hang out on friday night. had a great burger there and the staff is friendly... we will go back and try their prime rib. i hear it's fantastic.
