Service: Awful. Food: One hit, one meh. I am always biased by the service, and I think we got the one bad waiter they have. When we said we were interested in a bottle of wine, before we ordered, or indicated what wine we like, he spent three minutes ranting about a bottle of wine we were completely uninterested in. He left the menus on the table the entire meal (it was a four person table for two of us). And when we had finished our dinner, we sat in front of empty plates for 15 minutes (no exaggeration, we were watching the clock trying to leave) while he talked with another pair of customers. My food was amazing- perfect pinot noir reduction over flawlessly grilled halibut. My husband had the sweet potato fries (nothing special) and the brown sugar salmon, which was great, though not as transcendental as mine.

Terrible service. we went into this place on our way from merrytime for a quick drink. piano music was nice. the Bartender was absent. the place was pretty vacant except for about 3 tables. we stopped at bar and waited, waited, waited. when the bartender finally showed he wasn't happy. maybe we weren't his caliber of people. if you want a place for a drink this isnt the place, it's not quick, not fun, and pretty spendy. We didn't try the food so i have no comment there.

Went for lunch last Thursday. Nice space, nice-looking menu. Waitress/hostess was very helpful with my allergy concerns. I ordered the Petrale with braised greens and sweet potato fries. Everything was good but the fish, which was tasteless and fishy. Wish I had taken some of the lemon from my iced tea so I could flavor it up a bit. BF ordered the crabcakes, which he liked, but in retrospect, he says it was runny... Cut to Thursday night, which he spent by the bathroom with explosive diarrhea and food poisoning. Order the crab cakes if you must, just make sure they are cooked all the way through!

Restaurant was very nice, food was good. Service was very mixed. our waiter disappeared frequently while adjacent tables had repeated visits from their servers. Our bread arrived after the appetizer, the check didn't appear for 15 mins after the dishes were cleared, he didn't return for nearly 20 mins to pick up the credit card, returning 10 mins later without the customer copy. Service spoiled what would have otherwise been a good experience.

I've always wanted to visit Astoria, ever since watching "The Goonies" that is...and Clemente's rocked my world. I was shocked, actually. I ordered a salad, which I cannot for the life of me remember the name, but it has goat cheese in it. It was so simple yet so full filling. It was stunning. For my main course, I ordered a crab ravioli which was absolutely delicious. If ever I am back in town, Clemente's is a MUST.

My family and I were recently in Astoria. The reviews for Clemente's were either raves (4 stars) or pans (1 star). I hope that this review is balanced enough to help you make a decision. First of all, I gave the restaurant 3 stars...but it really deserves 3.5 stars. I must also say that I would definitely eat here again. We ordered appetizers (the local oysters were amazing), entrees, wine and desserts. All of the food was a solid, "very good" and a few of the dishes were exceptionally good. I would suggest that you order the Cioppino. I personally had the fresh, local albacore tuna. The tuna was served with a simple, but delicious soy glaze. Everything on the plate was fresh and perfectly prepared. Not everything was perfect. My husband's entrée, which was "hot and cold" (a hot snapper served over cold gazpacho) was a disappointment. A traditional gazpacho does not include cumin. If the chef wants to muck around with a traditional recipe, say so. The cumin overwhelmed the rest of the dish (and I like cumin). In addition, the caramel glaze on one of the desserts was burnt. There's no excuse for that. The weirdest part of the evening concerned the wine cellar. We were forced to order 3 different bottles of wine, because every time our waiter went to the cellar he discovered that they were out of stock! Clemente's graciously allowed us to order a really nice bottle of Pinot for the lower price of our first choice. However, they should make sure that the published wine list reflects the actual contents of the cellar. Some great food, some middle of the road food and some glitches in service add up to a three.

We waited 10 minutes after being seated for a waiter. There was one other couple in the dining room. We could hear the banter about drinking from the kitchen, I wanted to leave, but hey this is a local family business to support. We finally ordered wine pinot gris and crab cakes, crab cakes came.. No wine. More banter from the kitchen... Hello we are waiting!! After my husband ate his crabcake the waiter came and said no wine. When the waiter finally realized we ordered white not red he came with a previously opened bottle of wine. Opened wine from three days ago.. For a discount even, seriously. We waited another 10 for a bottle of wine as we heard a recycling story from the kitchen. Ok next attempt is to order dinner. It was 6:15 and we were informed the chef didn't know what he was serving for the prix fixe. Humm, when will he decide...next week? We ordered maple glazed salmon- it had a good flavor but was mushy. The check came faster than the food and the offer to get change came faster. Where is customer service? The chef should know how to cook salmon, service stinks; customer service training is a must....customers pay the bills people. Unless you think your commercial fishing family will help when your customers disappear to patronize much friendlier establishments across the street. As a local, We eat out frequently and I will NEVER return. I will save it for the tourist crowd to patronize... And even they don't deserve the treatment.

We had the most lovely lunch. Glorious Fresh unadulterated Dungeness crab Louis on a bed of lettuce with enticing little accents all around. clean, fresh, Ciopino redolent of fresh tomatoes and the catch of the day. Topped it off with the seasonal dessert recommended by our gentille waitress, Holly, who said sme of our food came from her garden - a tower of basil accented short-bread with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Proseco, strong coffee - who could ask for more?

We got into Clemente's as a second choice since our first choice was booked. The place was sort of busy (7:00pm) but not packed. There appeared to be two full-time servers and the hostess who also acted as a server. She was our server and while professional was inexperienced and seemed somewhat overwhelmed. One of the first things she told us was that due to a mad rush at lunch there were no more fresh oysters or crab cakes as appetizer options. That didn't leave a lot that we were interested in. The food here is all local and sustainable which is great. I guess when they run out, there's no going to the market for supplies. After much contemplation my husband ordered the price fix option getting an excellent Caesar salad, blackened seared Ahi tuna and fries with (as it turned out) a delicious Marionberry sorbet for dessert. The entrée came with sweet potato fries but we asked for regular fries instead. When his entrée arrived there was only a skimpy portion of very rare, thinly sliced tuna and nothing else on the plate. Our server apologized that they were bringing the regular fries out momentarily. When they finally arrived they were the best part of the meal. Guess the chef didn't read the order closely or our server mis-communicated, whatever, it was sort of disappointing. My husband likes grilled tuna but is not a fan of raw tuna. This tuna was so raw it wasn't even warmed through and it really lacked seasoning. Seems like our server should also have asked how he wanted the tuna served temp-wise as do many restaurants who serve this dish or explained exactly how the fish was prepared. Medium rare would have been much better in this case. I ordered the "surf and turf" option that turned out to be a small steak that was cooked as I ordered but instead of the salmon I was told I would get I got about a 1/3 cup of cracked Dungeness crab. There was no explanation for that and I wondered where the crab came from since there were no crab cakes to be found... Half my place was adorned with very nicely steamed veggies but no seasoning or sauce. Just au natrual. Pretty boring considering the price on these two choices. I ordered the house special Manhattan and it wasn't very good, sort of watered down. Too much ice in the shaker... Overall we felt Clemente's was over-rated but maybe we caught them on a bad night. We had breakfast the next morning at the Bridge View Bistro near the Cannery Pier Hotel. It was fabulous and next time I will make dinner reservations before we arrive at the hotel to ensure we can eat there.

I wish yelp had 1/2 stars and I would give this one 2 1/2, but alas, it just doesn't warrant 3. I wouldn't stop here again and I wouldn't recommend it to friends passing through, but in the end my Chiopino was tasty and my friend's halibut was nice. Our waitress Nicole was fantastic! The food was fine, the prices were high and the space is a bit tired.

Solid 4 stars. Service was pretty slow. The waiter was running around the restaurant to multiple clients. We had the ravioli with crab and fried cod. Both were excellent. Good menu with plenty to pick from. Fair value for the price.

great food. poor service. the place was SLOW and it took forever for someone to come and take our order. Then we waited and waited. Watched other people around us who were seated after us eat their entire meals and then leave. I was just about to make a scene and our food arrived. The seafood was amazing. I almost forgot about the bad service. almost.

We went to visit our friends who moved to Astoria recently, and they could not wait to take us to their favorite new restaurant -- Clemente's. They insisted this would be some of the best casual fine dining we have ever tasted, served in a coastal urban Northwest atmosphere. They were right. The grilled salmon was fresh, moist and delicious --served with these crispy, soft sweet potato fries. The fries were accompanied by this amazing dipping sauce - we asked for more. In fact, they could have asked us if we wanted more fries for our dipping sauce. The decor was simple yet innovative...since it was Friday, we were able to enjoy a live piano bar in the background, enhancing the night. They have a full bar and reasonable priced well though out wine list. Next time, I am trying one of their famous martinis served in a huge, iced stainless steel martini glass! The prices were amazingly affordable for such a true fresh, Northwest coastal dining experience.

While visiting this seashore town in search of lunch ... the family started craving chowder (could it be the many many ads in around the town ... ? nah). So when we spotted Clemente's as we came into Astoria headed towards Seaside ... the menu and atmosphere looked promising. On the menu - fresh crab, clam chowder and a house special salmon corn chowder. I had the crab louis salad (delicious), family had clam chowder and a caeser salad (also delicious) and hubby ordered the salmon corn chowder daily special (not so delicious). Stick to what you know ... it's good ... perhaps taste the daily special before serving it ... THAT is how you get five stars.

Not your average coastal seafood restaurant. Sophisticated menu featuring fresh, local ingredients with an emphasis on seafood. The fried sushi roll was out of this world adding a crispy twist on this Asian dish. Great people watching from the streetside windows.

Awesome food. Seasonal, with different menus for the different seasons. An eclectic design, but the food was tasty and fresh. The oysters came in a huge metal boat/dish filled with ice. Sandwich was tasty and incorporate different items (blackberries aioli!) but they all just worked. Wonderful Nori fries. Definitely a place to go back to the next time we're in Astoria.

We are from Portland and LOVE food of all kinds. We have been to Clementes to celebrate our engagement, on our honeymoon, and yesterday for our anniversary. I am shocked by the negative reviews. Some of the wonderfully things we have tried: Caesar salad, fish and chips, cioppino and the halibut. the service was good and we waited a normal amount of time for each course. You never feel rushed with your courses but I find that a good thing. If you want fine dining in Astoria this is a great place to go.

Great food, and service. Had the salmon sandwich w blackberry mayo. Outstanding. My husband had the fish and chips. He was very satisfied. My meal came w a salad that had this amazing vinaigrette. Wish they bottled and sold it. Make sure you order a side of the Nori French fries. Wowza! You won't be disappointed. We'll definitely be returning on our next trip to Astoria.

Best fish and chips I've had in years. And it comes w/ salmon, flounder which is great, never had it, cod, halibut. I had the flounder once then the halibut both were phenomenal. The rest of the food is ok, but fish and chips...gets my top vote!

Outfriggin'standing!!! You all know how critical my dad can be about a place? Well, he declared this place to have the best fish & chips around. Big words for a man who thought he made the best. I have to agree. It looks fancy and pricey, but it's very easy on the pocket books, and just delicious. You might think you're sitting in a made over office building, but you'll get over it when the food arrives.

While on our honeymoon in Astoria this past July, we wanted to go out to a somewhat-fancy dinner. Both of us being vegetarians, we weighed our options at the nicer restaurants around town before choosing Clemente's. The service was fantastic. The cocktail I asked about wasn't in our server's repertoire, but he made an effort to make it anyway and it was delicious if not authentic. My husband had a Vortex IPA, brewed down the street at Fort George. We shared the deep-fried artichoke appetizer, which was incredible. My husband had the tempeh burger, and I had a vegetarianized version of the ravioli, with cream sauce that normally came on another entree. The tempeh burger was good, but the fries were outstanding. My meal, on the other hand, could be classified under my own personal "best dinner ever" category. The pasta was tri-colored, the filling was rich, and it came with a generous serving of the most flavorful squash I've had in my life. Our one regret: the portions were so big we had no room for dessert! We'll be back, hopefully before our first anniversary!

This restaurant was really talked up in our guide book and on yelp, so we decided to try it. While I liked the decor, I didn't like it so much for a restaurant. The space is very large and open, and it's true that there's a lot of space between tables, but it feels like you're in a hangar, not someplace cozy or intimate. The food was okay, but not at all impressive. My fiance's dish was accompanied by some cooked vegetables and quinoa. Both were fine, but neither had any sauce or flavorings or anything. I can stick quinoa and water in my rice cooker and get the same dish. It was the sort of food a barely adept home cook could easily whip up for a weeknight dinner. That being said, the prices were low for the style of restaurant, so that was a plus. We wouldn't go back, however.

I first discovered Clemente's in their old location on Marine Drive. It was a very small restaurant but inviting and their chowder and fish and chips were heavenly! Light delicate batter on fresh fish served in a cone shaped basket lined with paper. There were a number of choices of fresh fish, sole, halibut, salmon. Last time I was in Astoria a few weeks ago, Clemente's was closed down moving to their new location on Commercial Drive. They took over the bronze statue gallery and opened in a much larger space. My son and I made reservations and went down there last Friday night. The restaurant was very busy...there were a couple of large parties. We were promptly seated but service was slow. We both agreed the food was absolutely worth the wait. We started by splitting a Caprese salad that was artfully stacked and used pesto instead of basil. My son had the sole fish and chips. I had the pan fried oysters and sweet potato fries. Both were perfection. The waiter knew service was on the slow side and comp'ed us a dessert. Triffle of berries. We'll be back!

This restaurant is truly a gem. After driving by on several occaisions we decided to stop and try it out for lunch. So glad we did. On the first visit we stuck to the basics, chowder along with fish and chips. The homemade tartar is fabulous. Perfect batter on the fish and chowder was exactly the way I like. The second visit was not a disappointment. It was our anniversary so we had appetizers, wine, salad, dinner and desert. We started with the crab cakes which was all crab with just the perfect amount of seasoning/filler. A must is the house salad with the maple vinaigrette. The Ravioli Tricolori is not only very tastey, but also a beautiful presentation. The Bolognese was not disapointing either. We now stop any time we are in Astoria. We were so pleased that we had Clemente's cater our daughters wedding reception. Everyone raved about the food. Gordon and Lisa worked very hard to make this day special and they went above and beyond. I encourage you to give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Under seasoned food, overdone salmon, overdone poke, only one waiter. Clearly the chef didn't taste the food before serving. Does anyone know if there's a new chef here?

    (3)
  • Holly H.

Simply the best food we had on our coastal vacation. Elegant interior, fabulous wait staff, and chef Gordon creates the best entrees and everything else in Oregon. The oysters were fresh, fresh. All seafood incredibly fresh. The standards here are higher than anyplace in Astoria for freshness. The standard is high here for excellent service, also. It is a hip, cutting edge cuisine that is delicious.

I wish I would have yelped this place rather than just walking in because it looked nice. The fact that it was abandoned on a day when Astoria was busy should have been a clue. It took a long, long time for anyone to acknowledge we were standing at the hostess stand. My date ordered what was supposed to be their best glass of red and it was horrible. It had clearly turned. The server told us "we have been having wine problems" and swapped it out with something a bit better. The halibut fish and chips were rubbery and the fries likely came from a bag. The cesar was pretty lousy. It had a weird, sweet dressing. It is too bad that whoever runs this place has given up on serving good food, as the location and ambiance are pretty good.

My recent experience at Clemente's inspired me to create a Yelp account. It was that good. I was in town from Portland for the FisherPoets gathering and we settled into the restaurant for a light dinner. My girlfriend ordered their fried artichokes ... something I never thought could be good, but it was one of the most inspiring culinary surprises I've had in some time. I ordered their garden salad and poke. The salad was fresh and delicious with high-quality ingredients and had perfectly paired add-ons like artisan cheese, nuts and other accoutrements. The poke was the star of the weekend for me. It was extraordinarily fresh sushi-grade fish with perfectly balanced ingredients and they gave me what would have been the equivalent of a $35 serving at a comparable Portland restaurant. For transparency purposes, I know the owners, but also for transparency purposes they had no idea I was in the restaurant, I didn't know the waitstaff, and received zero special treatment.

Tonight was our first time in, and our first meal in Astoria. We walked by Clemente's on our way to a different restaurant the hotel had recommended to us. Fortunately for us, we paused to read Clemente's posted menu and decided to go inside. Our lucky day!! We are in our 60's and are not amateur diners. We live in Seattle and have enjoyed many of the fine restaurants there. We have traveled the world and know what good food tastes like. In our opinion, it tastes like the food at Clemente's. My wife had the ravioli tricolori, a cheese ravioli with Dungeness crab accompaniment. I had the chef's whimsy, which wound up being a seafood medley and pasta dish that was very delicious. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and charming (way to go "George"!!!). Gordon, the owner, came out before we ordered to answer all our questions about the menu and how the entrees were prepared. Bottom line: this is one of the best restaurants we have eaten in our recent travels. We would definitely come back to Clemente's the next time we are in, or even near Astoria. Top notch menu, service and food. Go to Clemente's if you have the chance.

My wife were there on a Tuesday night at 8:30 in the summer and it was kinda slow. I didn't understand that because the food was good and so were the prices. Love the fact that there's no sales tax here! Anyway, after the tasty salad that we shared, the main dish took a while to come out but when it did, it was tasty. I had the Ciopino (average size, no shrimp or crab) and my wife had the halibut which was a nice sized portion. The bread was very good too and I kept eating a ton of it while waiting for the main dish. I'd recommend this place.

I thought this restaurant was wonderful. I ordered the Chef's special, which was a salad of mixed greens, fresh mozarella, and heirloom tomatoes; chicken parmesian with marinara; and chocolate ice cream, and my boyfriend ordered the seafood cioppino. Everything tasted terrific, and I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in Astoria.

Worst experience in Astoria thus far...Clemente's go screw yourself. Horrible food, worst service and a tragic hashing from the chef. Go. To. Hell . (lived here about 4 months, and boyfriend about 1 year, originally from Long Beach) Honestly, we are nearly LOCALS and their food is Straight from COSTCO...as least their pastas. The service was so ridiculous...waiting for 45 minutes for our food (AFTER our appetizers) . I have worked in multiple serving positions...I ALWAYS give the server the benefit of the doubt, however we got NO apologizes for the wait and multiple tables got served before us. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. As a local or a tourist DO NOT go here. Rather, Baked Alaska, Bridge Water Bistro, or Fort George. After we MENTIONED our food was a little late the Chef comes out of his station and berates us, saying 'not that i can't make pasta but that you don't have a reservation, we always serve our reservations first' Last time I check reservation was for TABLE! Bottom line, RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY. Maybe it is where we sat, but in general this is not a local spot (costco), shitty service (you will wait longer than you think), and Chef IS NOT A NICE PERSON!!!!

We are frequently in Astoria while down at the beach and always looking for a new place to try out. After driving past Clemente's multiple times this visit, we decided to stop in for lunch on Saturday. The restaurant is housed in a large space w/ a bar at one end. The floors are tiled 1/2 sheets of plywood arranged in a diamond pattern w/ the grain alternating. It is an old floor, but very fitting for the charming old building. The tables are generously spaced so that you can have a nice intimate evening without sharing your evening w/ diners seated 12 inches to your right. Local art adorns the walls and is for sale. I wonder if this is a remnant of the space's former life as a gallery. The seasonal menu is full of enticing items. As you'd expect, the fresh local seafood is prominently featured. We were pretty hungry and everything sounded delicious so we ordered way too much food for just 2 people. Clam Chowder - very nice. Crisp potatoes, tender clams and light cream base Cioppino - heavenly broth w/ tomatoes and a panoply of fresh seafood Melon & Prosciutto Salad - lightly dressed greens topped w/ Parmesan served w/ prosciutto wrapped Tuscan melon. Delicious and worthy of the trip all by itself. Wild Salmon Sandwich - fresh local salmon, greens on a baguette w/ a blackberry mayo. The mayo sounds a little weird, but it is made w/ a light touch and complements the fish nicely. Burger - rare, served w/ homemade ketchup and fries. Simple. Good. Although I did scrape off the grilled squash. Zucchini on a burger, no thanks. After so much good food we had to try dessert but had little room left. Sorbet sounded light and refreshing Blackberry sorbet & Lemon sorbet - Delightfully fruity and not too sweet. A perfect ending to a fine meal. All in all, a delicious meal. We had a pretty late lunch (1:30ish) or we might have come back for dinner that evening. The only criticism I have is the service and timing of the food. We waited 15-20 minutes after ordering before our soups arrived. Given that the soups simply need to be dished up (and we were ravenously hungry) this seemed like an interminable wait. While still eating our cups of soup, the salad and then the main entrees all showed up in the next 10 minutes. This meant our main entrees were getting cold while we worked our way through the soup and salad. Uncertain if this was mix up was due to poor timing of the orders or because they were getting close to closing time. Either way, if was a minor flub in an otherwise wonderful afternoon. Thanks Clemente's for a great lunch. We'll be back very soon.

If you want a mediocre, overpriced meal in a pretentious pseudo-industrial setting; this is your place! Talk about a disappointing meal. This was our first trip to Astoria and while the reviews on Yelp were a bit of a mixed bag, we decided to give it a shot and the lady from the hotel we were staying at really sold it. After walking in and taking a look at the menu, it looked promising. I mean - they had a Chef's choice option on the menu. That says to me either the chef is a cocky bastard or he does some stuff. It turned out to be the first one. I decided that it was worth a shot and went for the Chefs Choice. Its was a 3 course meal with (1) an olive tapenade with bruschetta (2) Rockfish with sauteed seasonal vegetables and (2) ice cream with a warm strawberry topping. Course 1: Seriously... olive tapenade? if you are trying to show off, I guess one way is to start by underwhelming someone at first. Very salty. Just crushed olives. No character. Course 2: DISGUSTING. Two lightly breaded fish filets with some shredded and sauteed veggies. The best part of this was the vegetables. They stacked the filets so the bottom one was all soggy as the breading had become steamed by the top filet and turned into a flour paste. There was no seasoning on the filet themselves (flour doesn't count). What appeared to be some sort of pan sauce in the dish to help flavor the fish turned out to be oil - and not flavorful oil. I think it was vegetable oil - too light and bland to be olive oil. Why would you just dump a quarter cup of vegetable oil on top of a dish and call it good? I couldn't finish it. I tried, I really tried, but it was just disgusting. Course 3: Really unimaginative. It was vanilla ice cream with strawberries. That chef has no imagination. The only redeeming part of the meal was the duck that my fiance had. It seemed to be properly cooked and tasty, but it seems to me that if the chef has the balls to get people to shell out like $50 for a "Chefs Choice" only on the description that its a creation of fresh, seasonal, and local foods it damn well better be more impressive than something that is on the regular menu. I can't imagine what the people giving this place such high ratings are experiencing there. Really not worth it. There seem to be a handful of other really nice restaurants in town - just not this pretentious, over-billed, overpriced joint.

I went here with my husband for my birthday and was very impressed. The service was stellar (she practically ran to get our check) and the food was awesome. I got the 'chefs whimsy' because that is where the food should shine. The chef came by to have a chat with us and make sure everything was yum (which is was). I can count on one hand how many times a chef as come by my table to see how the food was. We will go again for sure next time we are in town! A++

Stopped for lunch while driving through Astoria and will make a point of coming again. Had fresh fabulous raw oysters with a delicate champagne minionette. The crab Salad was another huge hit. Generous serving of sweet, fresh, Dungeness crab, tomatoes that taste as they should, and dressing served on the side so you can choose how much you want. Perfection on a plate. Then there was dessert. A carmel apple trifle with a home made carmel sauce I could happily eat by the spoonful . Exquisite. A true gem. I now have planned our return journey so we can come back!

My wife and I just spent our two year anniversary at the gearhart sand trap by mcmennamins. Looking through their "coast restaurant" guide, we came upon Clemente's. As my wife and I are both Portland food goers (not snobs, but really enjoy great food), Clemente's appeared, by picture and menu, to be the place to celebrate our union with elegance and top notch food. We were correct. After a twenty minute drive and arriving ten minutes later than our reservation (we called of course), we walked into a room that was very Portland in that it mixed elegance with that exposed air duct/industrial feel we have been exposed to. Our server sat us in a cubby with pillows and killer artwork. The meal followed. I ordered a bittburger na beer (0.0% alcohol which is great) and my wife had a glass of the cooper pinot gris (lower acidity which my wife loves) First course was the oysters. Amazingly plump and fresh with an stellar minionette (sp? ) always a favorite of ours. I will also add they were shucked perfectly. Second was the crab and shrimp cocktail. Healthy portion of both fish served over one of the best cocktail sauces I've had because the horseradish level was finally where I liked it, high! Third course is where the greatness began. Having eaten a Caesar salad at every place I have ever eaten that offered one (including the original in Tijuana) I must say this was the most creative spin I've ever had. I tend to be more of an anchoade (like an anchovy paste style) type dressing boy as I love strong flavors. This Caesar was the opposite. Delicate and flavorful with a touch of sweetness that I couldn't place. I begged for the recipe and was informed the secret I was tasting was rice wine vinegar (idea now stolen). I know it may sound silly, but an amazing dressing or sauce is what makes me (son of a chef) tick. Course break and the wife changed to a montepulciano for the entrees. As we eat and work at John Gorham's restaurants and bars, my wife and I share everything. While the offerings all looked great, the duck and cioppino stood out. First the duck. Cooked to perfection with a local berry sauce and quinoa (would have loved to see this chef's rendition of polenta), this dish was great. Even the quinoa was great and I don't typically order it. Second was the cioppino. Loaded with fish, seasoned well and served with a broth that was so rich and delicious I would have paid what we paid for a bowl of it. In summary, great everything. As far as price, amazing value. Local and sustainable is obviously going to increase price sometimes, but the value is worth it. The chef/owner did not gouge because he was using local product, but rather he created an amazing value. This dinner was inly $105 with wine, coffee and a couple of na beers. My only knocks would be the lighting was a bit bright (probably to see the amazing artwork throughout) and that when the music is low, you can hear the passion of the kitchen throughout the restaurant (inside joke). Will most definitely be returning when we go to astoria or surrounding areas again. PS. Would have tried all of the desserts if we had not made previous arrangements.

A group of us went to Clemente's last night, despite some of their negative reviews. We wanted to some casual fine dining that wasn't super-over-the-top expensive. And after looking at their menu and a few other restaurants' menus online, we decided on Clemente's. The group of 5 of us ordered different items off the menu, so we could all share and try each others. It was a general consensus that we liked EVERYTHING we tried. Some noteworthy items that I personally enjoyed: *Clams with white wine, onion, and garlic *Cioppino *Chef's choice (entree was salmon with blackberry sauce, some kind of mash, and chanterel mushrooms) *Ravioli with crab For wine, I chose the Montinore 2010 Borealis, which turned out to be the house white wine of choice. I thought it was really reasonably priced since it retails for $16. Great wine to pair with most of the food we had. I would highly recommend Clemente's for a great dinner in Astoria. The service is a bit slow (which is understandable (since this is a one-chef restaurnat), but we didn't care - we were on vacation and taking it easy and enjoying our dinner conversation.

The server was polite and knowledgeable despite giving us the wrong menus at first. She made a great cocktail, but she really pushed the 'Chef's Whim.' I wanted a heavy fish dish, but she talked me into it saying there was a lot of fish in the pasta. The 'whim' included a salad which was 3 leaves on romaine covered in ceasar dressing with some cheese and a few olives and croutons -- pretty but annoying to eat. The pasta arrived, and I was really disappointed. There was a prawn, two prawn sized pieces of salmon, and a prawn sized piece of albacore. It tasted fine, but I had hoped for more value, especially since we are next to the ocean. I was told dessert would be vanilla ice cream and berries, it was actually lemon sorbet, which I don't like, so that was a let down at well. Based on the other establishments we visited in Astoria, I would say you should expect a lot more for $25. My date ordered the Land and Sea. He was served a filet mingon sized steak that was delicious and 2-3 tablespoons of crab meat. Again, the food was good, but for over $30 I would definitely say this wasn't a great value. Also, the white wine we order was room temperature, dropped in a marble cooler that didn't effectively cool the wine. Ordered the poke appetizer, it was tasty.

Waited for over 15 minutes before a waiter even filled our water glasses and asked if we would like a drink. Never did get our crab cake appetizer. Kitchen staff couldn't get it together. Waited 1 hour for a mediocre dinner. This was Saturday night and the restaurant was less than 1/3 full, lots of empty tables. Would not recommend. Do not waste time or money. Brew pub down the street had better service, better food and were MUCH busier.

The food here is made from QUALITY ingredients. Its so hard to find that anywhere. I was so happy with the dinner I had one night I came back for lunch the next day. I did not have issues with the service. Both meals were better, from a quality standpoint, than anyplace I've eaten at in Seattle, with exception of La Boucherie on Vashon. The menu states they use local often organic ingredients and cook in transfat and cholesterol free fat; if that means anything to you and you rank food quality over service then eat here.

Someone call Chef Ramsey, cuz this is a Kitchen Nightmare. My girl and I, Walk in and the hostess/server asks us if we have a reservation. We say know as we are looking around the spot, it is about 1/3 full on a Saturday night at 7pm. So we decide to sit in the lounge. We Order our food and my girl specifically tells the server we want the Halibut entree plan and dry. Meaning just cooked with no sauce. I order the chefs choice which comes with 4 courses; app, salad, entree and dessert. After we order and 15min goes by I start to notice there is only 2 servers for the whole place with no true hostess or floor manager. Everyone gets bread but us. 30 minutes go by and we finally ask the server were my app is, He then mumbles something and brings the app out with the bread that every other table has had long before us. Food is good. Then another 30min goes by and we have to ask again where our entrees are? Finally get them and the halibut was covered in sauce and a glaze on top of fish. We were in a hurry so my girl scraped off the top and took out of the sauce and began to eat it. I got my entree which was suppose to be pork medallions and the were actually pork chops. The food was good, the service and experience was complete shit! I then asked our server what the deal was with why he didnt listen to a word we said when ordering, he argued with us a lil, I asked why there is no manager, he said "its us 2 servers and the chef. The chef does everything." He then said he would comp the halibut. Prices are also good, coming from Seattle were use to paying top dollar for everything. Get desert which was good then the bill it was like 30$. Tip the server 10$ and bounce. But what really chapped my hide is after leaving this schmuck a tip I realized the next day I NEVER GOT MY SALAD. He completely forgot to bring it out!!! Beautiful space, great tasting food, even when it isn't as described or what you actually order but SHIT service and completely run poorly by Chef "I have a huuuuuuuge ego" Clemente. It's no the staffs fault cuz they were runnin around the whole time with their heads cut off trying to service the whole spot on a Saturday night during prime time. This is the CHEF/Owners fault for thinkin he can do everything !!!!! Ciao bella!!!!

Disappointing lunch here today. Ordered the crab roll with yam fries. Crab roll was shockingly skimpy on crab meat. Mostly chopped celery and lettuce on a small square bun. Sandwich was seriously overpriced and the service was in attentive. Feedback will be sent to Fodors who recommended the place.

My wife and I have gone to Clemente's for the past few years to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant has been very quiet on these fall weekends. The art and decor is nice and it's a warm, inviting space. They have live music sometimes. The food is excellent. The fish and chips is amazing. We've tried the gluten free options and were happy to get meals crafted to taste. The kitchen and wait staffs are fantastic. Fantastic food in a fantastic town.

We spent our anniversary in Astoria last week and based on the strong recommendation from the folks at our hotel we decided on Clemente's for dinner. We wanted someplace nice with good food and quiet and this place ticked all the boxes pretty well. The setting is nice if a little industrial, old building in downtown Astoria, very high ceilings so it can be a little chilly. The layout is nice with tables set far enough apart to give you a sense of privacy with no other tables conversation intruding on yours. We were seated promptly and given a nice corner booth with extra pillows, kind of a funky spot. The wife and I each ordered a cocktail which our waiter fixed himself and brought quickly to our table, they were both good with a full measure in them. A good start. We had been piecing on our travels so no appetizers or salads so I can't speak to them. I ordered the Salmon with bacon and maple syrup which I enjoyed quite a bit, my only complaint would be that if you are going to serve bacon it should be cooked crisp and this was not even close to being fully cooked. I just pushed it off to the side and enjoyed the Salmon and sweet potato fries. The flavor was good and the fries were tasty and crispy. My wife went for the Filet with veggies and cooked greens, she ordered it medium but it came more like medium well to well but she said she loved the flavor and texture of the steak so much it didn't matter but good chefs should be able to cook a filet to medium. The veggies and cooked greens were very good though. None of the desserts sounded all that exciting so we didn't try any of them. Our waiter had checked back several times and delivered the check promptly and then took our payment quickly which may have had something to do with the fact that they were closing in a few minutes. My overall impression is that we will probably eat here again, the food was good, not perfect , but good and the prices and service were fine. The look and feel of the place is ok, though they should do something to give it some warmth.

This should really be a 4.5. My husband and I were visiting the Oregon Coast for 1 day and read about Clemente's in Fodors. It received a Red Star - which signifies a really great restaurant. I agree completely with Fodors - we loved our experience! Arrived for lunch about 1pm and were seated immediately. There were about 5 other parties in the restaurant as well. The space is open air and spacious with a jewel-toned appearance. I believe only one server was working and she was very attentive and friendly. Service was quick. The menu is absolutely amazing. My husband said..."now this is my kind of place". Very large for a lunch menu, the selections run very heavy with local, fresh seafood. There is a small section for "land" selections. Some of the seafood choices are very unique. Throughout the menu there are notes about the restaurant's efforts to be environmentally safe. Also, vegetarians and gluten-free folks will find options here. My husband ordered the Petrale (think Sole) Fish and Chips. They were wonderful - the crust was very good and light (not heavy in oil/fat). The waitress really sold me on the Poke Salad so I ordered that. Honestly the salad was one of the best I've had in my life. Seems strange to say that about a salad, but it really was amazing. The sushi grade ahi was plentiful and quite tasty and the dressing sealed the deal. If I am back in the area, I will not hesitate to visit Clemente's again.

While planning our small wedding (40 people) in Cannon Beach, OR I searched several restaurants in the area for catering. After reviewing the menu options at Clemente's I knew this would be our choice. Lisa was so great to work in every aspect. She customized menu and wine list so it suited our budget and likes. The menu selection is not your typical wedding food. It was so hard to narrow down the menu as everything on their menu is delicious! The linens, dishes and wine glasses were included with the price. This was such a huge help as supplies are quite limited on the coast. The day of the wedding Lisa and sister prepared almost EVERYTHING in my parent's tiny beach cabin as she wanted the food to be as fresh as possible. The set-up, presentation and the food was absolutely perfect. I didn't have to worry about any of the details as Lisa had everything under control. Being the bride I may be biased, but it was the best wedding meal I have ever had. Actually it was one of the best meals I have ever had period! Everyone raved about the food and couldn't say enough about Lisa and her sister. I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect than the service and food provided by Clemente's. Lisa really put her heart and soul into our day which meant so much to us.

stopped in here for dinner with my husband. i liked their focus on local, fresh foods. my husband got fish and chips - their homemade tartar sauce and ketchup were GREAT and also served in huge oyster shells. nice touch. i got the hijiki (seaweed) and lotus root salad - it was huge! and delicious, with a seaweed salad-style marinade like you'd get at a sushi place. i also had some of the french -style oysters with my husband but i didn't really like them as much as i would have liked regular oysters on the half shell with mignionette, probably. too much butter, and i think i would have preferred the slices of baguette to be toasted for more texture but they weren't. not really the restaurant's fault though - I had never had 'French style' oyster before so I didn't know what to expect. The local oysters are HUUUUUUGE though, which I wasn't aware of. I would have enjoyed it more with smaller oysters but that's not what they've got here! I had a great cocktail to start with - french something, which was delicious and refreshing. also had some local manilla clams which were cooked in a tasty broth. the bread served before our meal was anwarm and delicious baguette slightly crunch on the outside and some olive oil and vinegar. the olive oil was bitter and delicious. Only downside was that it was pretty pricey to go with appetizers + drinks + dinner + dessert - came out to about $100 for 2 people, which seems to be a bit much for this ara. i was thinking about the chef's menu which includes the house salad, an entree, and dessert but it was $25 which seems like a good value now, even though i didn't think it sounded like that much food for the price. i would try that next time, though. there was live piano music (this was a friday night) and generally a relaxed vibe. i was surprised there weren't more people around but summer isn't really in full swing yet so i guess astoria isn't really hopping yet this summer. i would definitely come back here. service was attentive and friendly.

The Crab Louie Salad = fresh, local, Amazing, Salmon sandwich = absolutely a must, my friend took his first bite and didn't come up for air; he devoured the dish and said "that was the best sandwich I've ever had" with the garlic fries are a MUST! Despite the fact that they were busy, the food came right away and it was delicious. Don't be a pansy, if there's a line STAY its worth the wait!

Doing a little chowder taste testing today and this was by far the worst we've had. Floury, too thick, absolutely no flavor and it looked broken. Where's the clams?? Never again.

We ordered a mess of Willapa oysters shooters. If I could possibly pick on anything, it would be that we had to pry the little buggers out of the shell to properly slurp these jewels. It came with their light vinaigrette, drawn butter and cocktail sauce. We had our server bring horseradish, which we preferred. I felt that really anything to add to these was unnecessary, though. We also had the local manila clams done up white wine, onion, and garlic. This came with a cheese & garlic bread that was not as inspired. The wonderful sourdough bread that came as a starter was fantastic and it was the better of the two for sopping up that wonderful broth. Do both, they are both spectacular. We had this and the local brew. Very filling for two and a lightish dinner that left us most satisfied. Go! Beach food can be crap; this most certainly was not. A pity that this is so hard to find such places inland.

Homemade cockktail sauce is disgusting...tastes like strawberries, tomato and vinegar...they DO NOT have regular ketchup. We were told they don't like to serve ketchup because all of the preservatives yet they serve deep fried fish and chips. Service was really slow even when there weren't that many customers. Lunch menu only has about 6 or 7 items on it and it's reasonably priced. However be prepared for slow service and bring your own ketchup.

Ok...we ended up elsewhere to eat but felt compelled to report we tried to eat here but they turned us away with empty tables all around. Food in front of other people looked good but it was not within our grasp. They started telling people like us to come back in 30 minutes. As we walked out we heard them tell the peeps behind us to come back in an hour. What? Only thing we could think of the kitchen was overwhelmed.

We experienced terrible customer service here on a fairly slow afternoon. The employees did not great us, or any other customers promptly at the door, leading to a lot of seating confusion. The servers were very unprofessional and didn't seem like they wanted our business at all. They made really uncomfortable small talk and blatantly showed their dissatisfaction for serving us. We ordered fried oysters as an appetizer which were really fresh and perfectly cooked. The rest of the food was bland and generic. The clam chowder was as thick as mashed potatoes with very few clams. I had the salmon sandwich. The salmon was super greasy and soggy, the dill sauce did not taste of fresh dill at all, some of my lettuce was brown and soggy. It was greasy and slimy, and gross, but I paid $12 for it, so I ate it. The whole thing was obviously served on a Franz sesame seed bun, which screams Sysco food service, not local and fresh. The atmosphere, menu, and prices were really deceptive. If you're going to present yourself as a local, fresh, chic business back it up with great customer service and quality food. There are way better restaurants in Astoria, go to them instead.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a quick visit to Astoria. The service was great, very friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was beautiful with great views! The menu selection was varied enough without being overly broad. I ordered a cup of the tomato and cheese soup and the Caprese sandwich, and my husband ordered the fish and chips. Everything was delicious, and the portions were plentiful. I really appreciated that everything was made from scratch...great attention to detail! Would definitely recommend!

Came in went it was emptying out and 17 minutes before they decided who was coming to take our order. The food was bland like at a retirement homes food and fish and chips soggy, no actual clam bites in the clam chowder. It was bland broth not bad but no flavor. Flavor came from the oyster crackers packet we dumped in the chowder. Beautiful place but food had no flavor. When we got a server she was nice and attentive.

Seems like the reviews are hit and miss, but we had solid service, were greeted warmly the minute we walked in, and the pomegranate martini I had was seriously one of the best cocktails I've ever had. My friend loved her Cuban Sandwich, and my crab cakes were okay. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst, either. I would go back for the martini again, for SURE.

We just tried their new location. DON'T BOTHER! It was only half full but we waited for a while for service. Order and got the soup but not the fish and chips we orded. It took a half hour for soup. Tried to get the waitress' attention and after another 10 minutes she finally came over and admitted she never wrote it down. Couple next to us said they got the cod but it was awful and we were better off. Ended up having to pay at the bar because she wouldn't come back so we could pay for the little food we got. You have lots of good choices here. Don't waste your time and money.

Every time I come in here for a glass of wine I know I will be met with a smile and a handshake from John the bar tender. A glass of wine to settle the mind after a long day accompanied by the greatest pokey salad! I almost hate to tell people about this place. It might get crowded!!!

My wife and I came to Clementes to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are not food connoisseurs, but we like to think we know a good meal when we have one. Our main entree, salmon, was amazing. We are from the northwest and have eaten our fair share of salmon. We were so impressed with the entree that we had to have dessert, too. The marionberry cobbler was the best I have ever had. Ambience is nice, the service top notch.

Staff not very attentive, food ok for price. I would have rather had Burgerville fish and chips. Long story short, they kept asking for our patience cause it was so "busy" but we walked in well ahead of the slight crowd. Dining room had maybe 6 of the 16 or so tables full....and that was after we arrived. It took 1/2 hour to get our pathetic bread plate appetizer. I don't get plain bread with no butter provided either....weird. Not going back, I am sure there are many other options that we will fare better at.

Went for lunch Wed, 8/20/14 because other Yelpers raved about the fish & chips, of which there are at least five varieties. I tried the cod which was, in fact, very good and came with a generous portion of fries. But I can't give this place more than three stars because of other factors beyond the food. To start with, this is a nice, well-established corner restaurant with white-tablecloth seating but has a tile or linoleum floor that looks like it hasn't ever been waxed. Bear with me, I'm just getting started. My usual experience with fish and chips is that it comes with, usually, a side of coleslaw. I noticed that the menu said nothing about coleslaw and so I asked my server if I could order a side of same. He said they "don't carry" coleslaw. My only actual choice of a side was a house salad. I declined. The food came fairly quickly. My server asked if I needed anything else and I asked for more tea and some malt vinegar which, at first, he seemed to not be familiar with. Once he got the idea, he went to get tea and vinegar while I attempted to shake some salt on my fries, only to discover that the tiny salt shaker (and there was no pepper shaker) was empty. I looked around at other tables and saw that some tables had salt and pepper shakers, some had one or the other, and some had none at all. They were all non-descript, few matching in any way. As if they had been picked up at random from Goodwill. My server came back and I told him, shaker empty, and he got one from another table. The fish and chips were excellent, nice portions of fish and a huge pile of fries. But on the side I was provided with two very small containers, one with a very tasty tarter sauce, and the other with their home-made ketchup. Which was good, but the amount provided could not have been much more than a tablespoon full. The containers the tartar sauce and ketchup were in were the smallest containers I have ever seen in a seafood restaurant. The amount of ketchup was not sufficent for even half the fries. The tartar sauce was barely enough for the fish, if uses sparingly. Curiously enough, these two items are referred to on the menu as "sides." This could have been rectified if my server had ever come back to the table to see how I was doing or even, perhaps, glanced my way, but no such luck. I didn't warrant his attention until I was done with my lunch and he arrived with the check. In short, this is a nice restaurant with very good food. But someone is not paying attention to details. Scuffed floors, a hodgepodge of items on the tables and not enough of them to go around (did I mention there appeared to be only one container of sugar packets that went around from one table to the next?) a lack of viable sides on the menu to go with fish and chips, and a wait staff that may need more training. Considering how many other restaurants there are in Astoria offering fish and chips, one of my favorite lunches, the next time I'm in town, I will definitely be trying another place.

Wanted to like this place, but the waitress forgot about us. Got our drinks and then she didn't approach the table again for thirty minutes. When the food got here we liked the place again. Goes to show you how important service is. 3 stars would have been 4 or 5 tars were it not for our waitress.

This was a recomendation from our hotel - Cannery Pier - we ignored Yelp (never again) It was empty - Friday night after Thanksgiving - I mean empty not another dining soul, not one. I am afraid this resturant needs to die so that the perfectly nice people who work there can get on with their lives. Nothing was better than poor and some of it was shocking - oysters were sort of room temperature and shells full of meltwater from yesterday's ice. My crab was just lazy, overcooked and dumped on the plate with no attempt to make nice. The Mrs's Sashimi was so so but she left most of it as she did her overcooked salmon But the real winner of the skidmark food awards was my clam and linguine - undercooked clumps of pasta in brown brakish pondwater with some slices - really slices of chili and a load of tough boggies in shells. And all the time the uneaten food was taken away with an is 'everything alright?' well I mean patently not - we werent replete eccentrics who just wanted to pass the evening in a brightly lit empty blight of a place. But we just didnt have the heart to complain - clearly the kitchen has absolutely no pride in what it sends out and I couldnt really bare to fight over the only bill that got paid that night If I could give a place zero I would - come friendly bombs and drop on Clemente's

I wanted to share a letter I recently sent to the restaurant: My girlfriend & I visited your restaurant on Friday, 6/27, and I want you to know how much I appreciated the experience. We were dropped off by the Cannery driver near 9, and nearly all of the servers had been released for the evening. The chef, however, allowed us to seat at the lounge and took care of us. We had the best albacore poke I've ever had, followed by the Chef's Whim, which was wonderful. We were the only people in the restaurant at the time. Despite a weekend filed with lighthouses, the beautiful Oregon coast, and many potential opportunities, conversation and atmosphere brought me to propose to my girlfriend in your restaurant. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the space, the food, the chef's pleasant & personable nature, and the opportunity. I won't regret spending a once-in-a-lifetime event in your restaurant. Thank you!!!

Halibut: Excellent. Filet Mignon: Excellent. Crab Cakes: Excellent- little if any fillers. Food was delicious and portions exceeded our expectations. The quality of the meat and fish, even down to the green beans, was high end. We were told this was the best seafood place in town and it didn't disappoint. Prices are really fair for the quality and quantity of the plates. I'm from Portland and am basing that last statement by comparing it to my local dining experiences. I do not understand the negative reviews on here and I felt compelled, as we left the restaurant, to write my experience. We even had drinks beforehand at a bar down the street and were told Good Luck when we left for our dinner. I wasn't impressed by that comment and will not go back to THAT other bar. If you're looking for a busy, quick meal with a large menu, go somewhere else. But if you'd like a meticulously prepared meal with fresh local ingredients and prepared with thought, this is your place. The menu is focused on what's available so it isn't huge (not a prob for me). It was a Wednesday night and they had one server for about 5 tables. She did a fine job and we never waited on her to come by our table. As we left, Gordon, the owner/chef, came out to thank us. The space is industrial and open, which is very popular and in right now. There was pressure riding on this dinner event as it was my 40th birthday, and we all agreed we were in culinary heaven. I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews and we will be back!

We eat at Clementes more often than we go to any other restaurant and we drive from Portland to get there! From Cocktail List to Kids Menu we have never been disappointed. In fact, the food is so amazing and expertly prepared that we are regulars at a place 100 miles from our house. The John's Salmon on the kid's menu is our toddler's favorite order and she requests Clemente's on random Portland weeknights. The seafood on the adult menu is always fresh and the flavors are perfectly combined (delicate fish not overpowered). The servers are unconditionally friendly and have welcomed our little one since she was an infant. Having had the opportunity to visit the restaurant as hip childless people and now as parents, i can definitively say this is a perfect place for either kind of foodie. We have tried both lunch and dinner and love both meals. We are going through withdrawals waiting for Clemente's to reopen in their new space. Do not miss this spot. It's worth a trip from Portland!

My husband and I drove from LA to Victoria stopping at innumerable restaurants along the way. Clemente's was our absolute favorite. The sweet potato, oyster appetizer contained the best fried oysters I have ever tasted. Both the salmon and mackerel entree were fresh, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and served in a delicious sauce. We highly recommend this restaurant, and wish it was closer so we could go again...tonight!

Our hotel recommended this place so we thought we'd give it a try. The martini bar closes at 1045 sharp. How do I know? Because at 1050 with the place active, front door open, and the open sign on, we walk in to grab an after dinner drink when the bartender shouts over to us that they closed 5 minutes ago. Really? He then actively ignores me when I try to ask what their hours are so maybe we could return tomorrow. Instead, he flags down some friends who are passing by on the sidewalk outside and has no problem conversing with them through the storefront glass, all the while ignoring my questions when I'm 3 feet away. WTF? Oh well, Astoria has several spots to spend our money besides Clemente's. **UPDATE** After complaining on their Facebook page one of the owners went to great efforts to get to the bottom of our problem and was most gracious in trying to make things right. She offered us free drinks on our next visit and welcomed us to meet them personally. Rarely does a restaurant owner go through this much trouble for a single customer. I am impressed! The single star rating gets bumped up to 2 because of this effort. Once I get back to Astoria and try them again I'll update this review and hopefully we can get them 5 stars.

Excellent food, the cioppino is wonderful, the best since San Francisco. The wine list is extensive, the surrounding are classy. They are noted for their fresh fish served in both modern and old school methods.

Me and the wife decided to try this place. The place was empty but very clean. I had the salmon and chips and the wife had cod and chips. The breading was light and the salmon was delicious. I would have to say it was the best salmon and chips I've ever had. Didn't use the dipping sauces because it would ruin the flavor. I would definitely try this place again. According to the wife, the cod and chips was very satisfying. The service was kinda slow but that wouldn't stop me from coming back.

My girlfriend and I came here during a random trip to Astoria. Her birthday had just happened and I had done it wrong. Wrong gifts, no cake, no fancy date. I was looking for a place in Astoria where we could get good seafood (we were on the COAST!) and fish and chips in a bar was not an option. There were many options but Clementes seemed to be the best choice. We were not disappointed. The food was great. I had the tri colored ravioli with fresh dungeness crab and my lovely date had the halibut on a bed of kale and mashed yams. The halibut was a bit overcooked, but 95% of the time it is regardless of where you go. All the seafood was fresh and the wait staff were very knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was a bit odd due to the fact that the restaurant borders the lounge/bar and the entire space feels very open, not intimate. And the random paintings and furniture make it feel more like a coffee house than a fine dining restaurant. The section of the restaurant opposite would probably be better seating if you want a quieter night of dining. Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience and I would definitely go back there before some of the other restaurants in Astoria. The menu and food were great and the service was fantastic. I think it is probably one of the best dining options in Astoria, especially if you want to eat without paying the premium for the view.

Homeless man was seated next to us and he heckled us for 20 mins before I asked to be reseated. Establishment acted as if it was ok for us to be heckled. To quote the owner, "I would hate for someone to be hungry." To which I agree except I am paying to eat here ($60 for lunch)...if u want to serve homeless people, that's fine, but I am not paying that much when I get harassed, I am no longer eating here...if u want to cater to homeless people who can't pay and not us who can, then I will go elsewhere because I want to enjoy the lunch I get charged $60 for and not be hassled. Food is good...which is why I have gown back until now....if u want to charge me less, I will put up with homeless guy next to me...until then, there r other places in town.

DO NOT have them cater your wedding. They do not return phone calls, emails or messages. My mother in law, fiance and I all repeatedly tried to get in contact with them and if they weren't around when you called they almost never returned the call. The thing that takes the cake was when we told them we were coming to Astoria on a Monday and wanted to meet. I told one of the owner that I was having a difficult time getting a hold of them and again never received a phone call back. When we went the next week THEY WERE CLOSED. The owner not only continued to ignore the issue of communication but didn't bother to tell me that the restaurant would be closed! Locals when asked about Clemente's told us every time "They are not good at getting back to people"

Clemente's has poor food quality and service. It was the worst meal that I have experienced here.

We had the same experience as "James A." - as a matter of fact we were with them when he had his bad experience. None of us have returned to Clemente's since our Clemente's dining nightmare last year. We continue to tell our story to others; there are several great restaurants in Astoria and I'll never go back to Clemente's after the way we were treated, and when we talk to other Astorians about our experience, we often hear similar stories. The chef/owner definitely needs anger management classes. Slow service + psycho chef/owner = never eating there again.

When a beautiful restaurant like this is always empty that kinda speaks for itself. Received a gift certificate for this place and the food was not at all worth the prices on the menu. It wasnt bad but for those prices i expect gourmet food. Take your money and head to Bridgewater Bistro youll get way better quality for the same amount of money.
