We live close and other than the bar had never dined there. We were definitely disappointed and will likely not be going back. Although the food was pretty good, not great, the service was suspect. The calamari appetizer was small and the server said they shorted us, so they were going to give us another portion. That didn't happen. The beer I got was not the one I ordered and when I pointed it out the confusion went all the way to the owner who seemed indifferent. As I pointed out there are plenty of other choices in Ashland.

Freshest and best halibut steak I've ever had in my life! You won't forget this place! This place is number one for seafood in Ashland on my books.

Great service!! Super friendly and had the unpretentious vibe that makes a local spot special! You can tell that the team is seasoned and cares about customer satisfaction.

I heard a lot of good things about this place so we decided to try it out for ourselves. You can tell how it was from the stars given maybe I expected more than My fiancee because she liked her steak, me on the other hand not so much I ordered the Australian lobster and upgraded my steak to a filet 63 dollars for a rubbery bland lobster and a very undercooked steak. Now I know most like rare to medium rare but i like mine well. Instantly I seen liquid coming from the steak and ask for it to be cooked a bit more the look I got when I asked will forever be etched into my brain like i was an idiot for not liking undercooked meats. The calamari tempura was excellent along with the bread and salad the house made dressing was out of this world. All in all I felt it wasn't worth the 130 dollars we spent that nite. After tip and drinks

OMG we found the crown jewel of Ashland in this old school amazing spot right in the center of Ashland. What fun to go back in time and see the Ashland of the past. Great food and the service was warm and welcoming. A must do while visiting and if you live hear I hope you are helping keep this spot REAL.

Omars is a staple of Ashland. Their fish dinners are fresh and amazing. Old school restaurant with old school charm.

3--stars says "A-OK" That's just about right. I mean, it's a steakhouse. That old fashioned kind of steak house where the standard meal is a steak of some kind (or chicken fried steak, steak sandwich, or some similarly universal breast of chicken or filet of fish) served with a soup or salad and some high-starch side like baked potato, rice, or mashed potatos. First, the good: air conditioning; real butter with the fresh warm bread; good rocks marguarita. Three stars. The average: Husband got the steak sandwich and practically had to wrestle the gristle to the ground. He ended up eating about half the hunk of meat on the plate, and left the rest behind. I got a chicken fried steak just because I figured it would be hard to get really wrong -- and it was as average as that. Lots of breading. Not quite enough gravy. We both got a baked potato -- and they were small, over cooked, and otherwise average. My small salad was covered in radish slices, and served with their 2 house dressings -- the blue cheese that seemed to be all thick sour cream and not much blue cheese or any other flavor, and a garlic-y italian. Husband's corn chowder was fine. We got there about 5:30ish, to have dinner before heading to the Shakespeare Festival -- and got to share the dining room with a parade of diners there for some kind of early-bird special. Since the waitress didn't mention this special -- I have no idea if it's a good deal or not -- our dinner was about double what it should have cost if the prices were set by value. We won't be back. I'm guessing this is the kind of place that survives on habit and memory. But there are way too many great places to eat to pick average as a first choice.

Odd little place like a throwback to the 50's but the food was good, prices reasonable and service excellent. It seems to be a community favority with the wait staff knowing many of the customers by name. The family style salad was fresh and tasty. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and the prices were more than reasonable.

The mustard salmon was the best preparation I have had in a very, very long time. Omar's has moved up from reliable, almost-period-piece roadhouse to being a destination for fine food. The period-piece leatherette booths, traditional salad bowls are still there. But, the food quality has improved. Even the fried zucchini fingers are fresher and more tender. And, the main courses, especially the salmon special I had, have gone up a couple notches... and I was very happy before. We have had uniformly fine service at Omar's, so I am puzzled by some of the comments on the service. I don't know what to say. The waitresses we had both times this year were friendly, relaxed, efficient,... kind of perfect!

Better restaurants come and go, but Omar's is the only place where I had such a bad experience so long ago, yet it's still there. For about 5 years we stopped at Omar's on our annual visit to Ashland to have steaks. Always good, until the 5th year when the steaks were nauseatingly oversalted. Even this would have not been a deal-killer, except that the waiter and manager both stoutly insisted it was not so, though all three of us eating them found that it was. That kind of unsatisfactory service isn't forgivable.

Gayle and I returned to Omar's last Friday evening for Supper and before the 8 PM showing of "King Lear" at OSF. In fact, it was the only time we used the car between our arrival in Ashland on Monday and our bittersweet departure on Saturday morning. We both wanted to eat in the main dining room and fully experience the red "pleather" seating and the comfort of an unpretentious local joynt. There's a lot we like about Omar's, even though the service from initial greeting, through table service, and continuing to the check was slower than slow. I'm not sure why as the place was busy, but not packed. The final service "straw" was waiting so long that I had to walk up front to pay the bill. Even then, it took awhile to get someones attention. Omar's staff was certainly friendly enough, but our experience definitely turned the notion of a casual and lingering fine dining experience on its head. The food itself was excellent. I had the Jamaican Jerked Chicken which was really tasty on that bed of angel hair pasta and with the right amount of kick (and quantity). Gayle similarly enjoyed her savory Fisherman's Stew. Both dinners included Omar's Ceramic Salad tray, which was good, although the hype (Frank Philipps and all) exceeded the experience. Also served was a warm and yummy basket of soft bread. Gayle and I also enjoyed the fact that our fellow diners were local and not really a Theater crowd. I like neighbourhod "Midwest" that way. However, in one instance, there there was perhaps too much "local" as one adjacent table conversation was loud and personal enough, that we might as well been invited to their home to continue the conversation. One young guy (who was also quite full of himself) appeared to be juggling 2 girl friends, while one woman completed a full search of her fiance's cell phone during his trip to the facilities. This kept both of us engaged and highly amused, while helping us forget about our service issues. The bottom line is that in this case, the food and local colour partially trumped the poor service. At the same time, we both agreed that there was no need to return to Omar's anytime soon.

I so completely wanted to love this, unfortunately it was the worst waste of $91+tip ever. The prime rib tasted of nothing but rosemary and was terribly tough. The mixed vegetables were atrocious, (basically a fajita mix), full of green peppers and onions with a total of 3 small pieces of zucchini and one miniscule piece of squash. The shrimp is not tempura as listed, it is a thick truck stop coating of breading. Who is voting this best steak and seafood in Ashland for the last 20 years? :(

We called ahead (I'm not sure if they take reservations) and fourteen of us (major foodies in our party, too) descended on Omar's for dinner. We were seated promptly and wow, but the food was good! Appetizers were appetizing -- calamari was tender; zucchini fingers cooked perfectly, clams tasty! My husband had the Pork Porterhouse --absolutely delicious! and cooked to perfection. I had the red snapper -- not Provencal, but prepared with a delightful zesty sauce (not over-sauced, either). Around the table we had lobster, toad in the hole, Portabello mushrooms and I forget what else, We loved the salad presentation and the dressings. And it's a good thing we made room for dessert. Our waitress was phenomenal..... and I mean, really that good. So good, in fact, that we did something we've never done in a restaurant before. We applauded her. Really. And she deserved it. I know where I'm going for dinner next time I'm in Ashland!

Omar's is the place to go when you are in Ashland. It's one of the oldest continuously operating places in town. I'm a big fan of their turkey burgers but I tried their chicken tacos on my last visit and they were dam nnear perfect. The steaks are always good and the salads are super fresh. You can also get one of their Coup Denmark ice creme sundaes for dessert if you still aren't full. The regular staff I've encountered are very jovial and prompt. I feel at home here and would take out-of-town friends to Omar's in a heartbeat.

Omar's is an institution for Ashland. I have eaten dinner, attended SOU late night bar bites, and enjoyed their $5 burger. It is an interesting mix of college crowd and dinner crowd. A solid bet if you want a cheap beer, food to fill you up, and no frills.

A visit to Ashland without a meal at Omar's would be unthinkable. Their steaks are always good, and it seems that the presentation is a bit trendier than it used to be. But the place and the menu retain their period charm, the wine list is interesting, and the staff is always friendly. Heck, maybe it deserves five stars -- and I hope it never changes.

I first went to Omar's on a visit to Ashland. I ordered a beer and decided to try the Tuscan Seafood Stew... Simply amazing! I came back and had to eat there again. Waitstaff is friendly and welcoming. Food is delicious and the beer is always frosty. I have been telling everyone to go to Omar's. I will definitely return.

55 day Dry aged New York steak was amazing. Flavor and tenderness was a delight to my palate. The sides were also delicious. The smoky risotto was a surprise and competed with the Steak for flavor. As always was great. The pinot noir recommended by the server was wonderful and accented the steak beautifully.

My boyfriend and I came upon this place on our trip to LA, from Portland. After having a difficult time finding a hotel in Ashland, THIS restaurant was the saving grace! EXCELLENT FOOD! WONDERFUL SERVICE! And the atmosphere was old school and quirky! If I were to make any suggestion at all, it would be to put white table cloths on the tables. If they don't want the high laundry bill, put down butcher paper, cut to fit. Works every time! Stephanie was our server, and she was awesome! Even recommended a great place for breakfast, which we went to the next morning. I had the petite sirloin, and garlic mashed potatoes. YUMMMMM! Do yourself a favor, if you're in Ashland, or even within 50 miles of it, check this place out! You won't be disappointed!

I come here a lot and I absolutely love their turkey burgers. Their turkey burgers have been amazing every time and I crave them often. Other than that, I love the bar side of the restaurant for a small hang out spot to have a few drinks.

There are a lot of things to know about Omar's. It's ooooold. It looks old, it feels old, and that's why it's charming. The red vinyl booths and vertical signage make you feel like you've stepped right into the 70's, the decor is a throwback to the days that it was legal to smoke in bars. Some of the staff has been there since before I was born- living, breathing testaments to the longevity and nostalgia of this Ashland staple. The restaurant serves a variety of fresh seafood and choice cut steaks, as well as a couple chicken dishes, and even escargot for the adventurous (you'd be surprised how palatable snail is once marinated in garlic and butter). The wine list is fresher than the decor by far, with new specials always arriving. The servers have character and knowledge and they boast a very long list of best servers and bartenders as voted in the sneak preview every year.. Pai Kim anyone? The bar, at first glance, is a total dive, but a closer look reveals great bar fare, cheap drinks, and the most welcoming group of locals and travelers to be found in our fair town. You are nearly certain to run into someone you know, or make a few new friends if you don't. The staff and friends can often be found gathered around the bar post shift (which indicates to me that they like their jobs and are treated well) chatting up the locals and the traveling crowd. I like to think of Omar's is an off the beaten path hidden gem- a true treasure of warmth and comfort food outside of the hustle and bustle of tourist heavy downtown. If you really want to go where the locals go, then this is where you want to be.

We held our wedding rehearsal dinner here and had a great time. Omar's is a classic roadside steakhouse - dim lighting, deep booths and dark leathers - with some good food. Our server was very helpful and fun and gave excellent drink-pairing suggestions for our meal. This place is pricey and I doubt we'll return for regular meals but for special occasions, Omar's will be on our list!

Waited 20 minutes for a reservation we made over a month ago. Hostess wasn't cordial. Great waitress, terribly slow service from both the bar and the kitchen. Intolerable wait for our entrees which were served one at a time, several minutes apart. Some were cold. Steaks were tough with inordinate gristle. Some not cooked as requested. Baked potato was half done at best. This may have been a fabulous place in times past but it's a bummer now. Go elsewhere!

Had dinner there twice recently. I tried to change what I ordered the second time, but the prime rib the first time was too good to good to decline. Melted in the mouth! The garlic potatoes are awesome too. A bit pricey, but worth it. Thanks Lori. s

FOOD POISONING ALERT! Overpriced for what you get. Los Angeles prices for diner quality food. Service was great but the food made me sick and I was throwing up all night long. Our entire group was very disappointed and to top it all off there was a curly hair in one of our salads. I ordered the halibut. The filet was tiny and overcooked, probably to hide the fact it had gone bad.

I have been to Omar's three times, but will not be going back. First visit was for dinner. It was nothing spectacular, but it was decent steak and potato. Our server was forgetful and scattered, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy. We were seated near the entry to the kitchen and near the entry to the bar tucked in a corner. The interior of the restaurant is old and needs a good updating. The salad platter is nice and the salad items were fresh. The wine list is good. They have a bar menu with options like burgers and sandwhiches, and lower prices, but you have to ask for it. My next visit was at lunch time. My friend ordered a burger and fries. The burger was NOT cooked. We had to send it back. The server was "too hot" to come out in the sun (we sat on the patio) so he stood over near the building in the shade to take our order, etc. He also never came back to check on us so we had to take the uncooked burger back into the restaurant. The final time I visited Omar's was with my husband. It was a nice evening so we sat outside. It was late, and not busy. The food was horrible. The service was horrible. My husband ordered the "house specialty" of Jerk chicken. This was basically baked chicken with no seasoning. Not jerk style chicken at all. The pasta on the side of the plate tasted like pasta-roni from a box. The waitress ignored us when she came out and left his empty beer glass on the table never asking if he would like another. I ordered salad and a fisherman's stew. The waitstaff never brought my dressing and never came back to make sure everything was ok. The fisherman's stew was so disgusting (with GREEN OLIVES????) that I literally could not eat it. Lest you think this is common, I am not a picky eater and have never not eaten a dinner at a restaurant because it was so gross I simply couldn't eat it. This was a first for me. It was horrible. Three strikes and you're out Omar's. We won't be going back.

History can't repeat itself or maybe we can never replicate memories. I remember this as the best place around campus. It was the and may still be I suppose. We had an unplanned night in Ashland. I remembered this place from the late 60s. Our hotel desk clerk told us it is the best. It was interesting but also disappointing. My steak was good. My wife had the Tuscan seafood fettucini and was disappointed. My vegetables and potato were not warm. The salad had tired greens, decent dressing and interesting additions to an endless salad. My vodka martini was good. The Lodi Zinfandel was good. Service was adequate. We were asked to wait though tables available then one waitress asked why we we were waiting so we were shoehorned in to a small table but then someone who else came over and moved tables apart a few inches. Interesting experience 45 years later. I am glad to have tried it again but...

Day two of my nostalgia tour through Ashland I discovered that my beloved Geppetto's had closed. So onto our other 1970s college hangout, Omar's. I celebrated my 21st birthday here (and ordered the same drink as I did all the nights before. Shhh. Don't tell.) Except for the prices, the restaurant hasn't changed one bit. Unfortunately, I have. What used to seem special now just seems sort of sad and lazy. My server was impatient. My cocktail was undrinkable. My steak, ordered medium, was still mooing. The wheat bread, which I used to love, just tasted like thick-sliced sandwich bread. I didn't mind the retro decor -- Omar's has never been trendy. But it's not cheap, either. And the quality of the food and the service didn't justify the cost. So farewell, Omar's. I might come back in five years, but I'll stay in the bar ... and celebrate my 60th birthday.

I've been to Omar's twice now for lunch and dinner and I absolutely love the food. I initially came here with a friend of mine from school to try the burgers since I have heard so many people rave about them and how inexpensive they are. Unfortunately we didn't realize that they didn't serve burgers for dinner and ended up buying a meal that was way out of a college students price range ($15+). I ordered the jerked chicken, loved it. Love the salad, love the bread, could potentially eat the butter plain but didn't. My friends and I went again, this time before 2 PM and had burgers which were amazing...so good! What is great is that if you are an SOU student you get a 10% discount :) sweet deal Why four stars? Too pricey of a dinner for me...at least for now until I get an epic job and the waiter for lunch seemed very sarcastic and rushed, almost to the point of being rude but hey, whatever floats his boat

Mediocre meal! This was the worst meal we have had in Ashland. Several minutes after I ordered a glass of wine I was told there was none left and my husband had to remind them of his drink order. After a fairly long wait, we received our salad. The entrees did not arrive for a good half hour. My sole was overcooked, the couscous was cold as was the steamed spinach. I requested warm vegetables and couscous. They returned with the sole overcooked and tasteless. My husband had the shrimp which was also overcooked and tasteless. We will not be back! Our waitress was lovely and apologetic.

I went to this place all the time when I lived a block up the hill by SOU. I haven't been back in a while, but it's still one of the better bars in town. Wednesday nights are awesome and have free appetizers in the bar. That's always fun. They aren't the cheapest place in town to get a drink after work or something, but they're conveniently located if you live on that side of town and don't want to drive all the way downtown and attempt to find adequate parking... and it's not a total dive like say, Ipub, so youll dodge some of the bros and crazy crowds. Comfortable place, nice booths, good TV's. Bartenders are on it. The restaurant is where it loses it's stars. Waaaay too expensive and not large enough portions. I ended up spending 40 bucks here a few years ago taking my girlfriend (at the time) out on a date of sorts. That, even for ashland, is far too much, especially when it's not like we ordered the lobster or something. We ordered pasta and veggie dishes... not some crazy iron chef shit... and we were still hungry after. Yeah, the food was good, It was made very well and everything and high five for that... but the portions were just too small - and I'm NEVER one to complain about that - far more often to complain about something being too big..

We finally ate there after driving past it forever. A few months ago we went into the bar and immediately walked out. It was tacky and too small. But last night we decided to have Christmas Eve dinner there and were pleasantly surprised. In spite of the hideous decor, over-bright lighting, no windows or ambience, we had cocktails and ordered grilled quail for an appetizer. It came with a tiny fried quail egg, and truffle oil laced greens. It was delicious. I had the duck confit, which was tender and delicious, with fingerling potatoes and my date had steelhead stuffed with king crab legs, also delicious. We couldn't eat dessert we were so full. The weird part was the salad which came in a strange bowl surrounded with tomatoes, garbanzos, croutons and other items. It was a self serve salad. But overall, we were happily surprised.

Omar's is one of the best places to eat in Ashland. Their steaks and seafood are always cooked to perfection. Their deconstructed salad is fun and tasty. Their booze selection is full of quality options. And the ambience is great... almost like a vintage smoking lounge, not that anyone would dare light up now. A cigar and a scotch would be perfect after dinner at Omar's. I really wish they took reservations. Dang it, Omar's... sometimes we don't want to drive across town to find out there's a huge wait! Otherwise, this place is worth a splurge.

Very unpretentious. The restaurant was closing when got in and we're very graceful. The bar was open but did not wanted to be in the bar area as it was crowded with a bunch of college kids. Our server, Stephanie, was great. She gave us good recommendations and we never felt rushed. I had the petit filet mignon with the garlic mash potatoes and vegetables and my husband had the calamari. Both dishes were excellent. We will be back.

Gosh, I'm such a geezer, I can remember when a fiver would getcha a giant pitcher of draft, and enough for a very decent tip besides. Omar's is still a great value, especially compared to the fancier, rich-folks pubs in down-town Ashland. Of course, Omar's is an institution that far predates even my presence there in Southern Oregon. It has been firmly roosted on the scene, out in front of much of the on-campus student housing since 1946. Omar's is not officially a part of what is now called SOU, but certainly has enjoyed a robust partnership w/faculty, staff, and students all along the way. Omar's is known for its steaks and seafood. I have long enjoyed the mix seafood platters, especially the fish fry Fridays of yesteryear. I certainly couldn't afford the Mahi and tuna or Marlin steaks, but loved their steamed clams and mussels. Check out their on-line menu, they have a truly impressive, expansive selection. You might very quickly forget this is a modest little shack of a place... the ambiance is indeed casual and relaxed, just don't forget their menu is a long ways past the typical pub grub........ Thanks for all the great memories, Omar's! It's impossible to imagine Ashland, and SOU, without you!

Dearest Omar's, Thank you VERY MUCH for finding and holding the wallet! Although, it was a pain to drive back from California to get it, we couldn't help but think how happy we were you found it. To our suprise the cash wasn't taken out of it; again your honesty is very much appreciated. If you happen to be into old school dining, well this is the place for you. Nothing sparkly, shiny or new here. The menu consists of steak, seafood, pasta and nightly specials. I'm one of those boring people that orders a baked potato and salad, but my husband always gets the steak sandwich. You can't beat the price and the cut of meat used...he said it tastes like a filet mignon. Oh, not a bad happy hour either.

Hadn't eaten there in a long time,so thought we might try it out.the rude service we received mixed with the obnoxious bar noise from the open door from bar to dinning room, created an atmosphere that was definitely not welcoming or worth the price. Will not be going back.

Renee and I love Omar's. They've done a terrific job of updating the menu and selection while keeping the old-school vibe of the place. An unusual combination of steakhouse and watering hole that works perfectly on both counts. Hats off to Omar's. A great Ashland institution kept alive and kicking. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Amazing! We started with the local salmon, brussel sprouts with bacon, and pesto mashed potatoes, with shrimp chowder and fresh bread and butter. It was all great and served promptly but not rushed. On Mondays you can bring in your own bottle of wine with no corking fee, which we took advantage of. The chocolate stout cake is AMAZING!!! I am super spoiled because I make all my own gourmet desserts, and am often dissapointed with restaurant desserts... Not so here! Every part of the cake is really good. Super moist, amazing ganache, and super chocolately. Be sure to save room for it!

Seems like a nice little place and very friendly atmosphere and patrons. I just had lunch in the bar area and the menu stated that the entire restaurant was BYOB with no corkage which is a huge plus. In terms of my lunch though, the cajun turkey burger certainly doesn't make me want to come back for dinner - way overcooked, flavorless, and even the accompanying fries were overcooked and yet not very hot. If I'm in town again I might check it out and bring some good wine but based on my lunch experience I'm not entirely sure...

I went to Omar's because it used to a favorite when i lived in ashland and i was looking forward to a top notch dinner with friends. I remember how this place used to have THE BEST steaks and how it was obvious that they took pride in their food. It appears that things have changed. I was looking to spoil myself and my friends. I ordered the steak and lobster and upgraded to a New York cut of steak. I don't know how to properly articulate how disappointed i was in my meal. i've never seen such a small NY cut of meat and it seemed obvious to me that the beef itself was of a low quality. This plate cost me $55 and i pretty much just hacked it down. One of my friends was so upset about his dinner being cold that he demanded to see a manger and insisted that they refire his meal and comp it. He also insisted to the managment that he had been going to Omar's for twelve years and has never had such poor service. Personally, I thought the service was fine and that my friend was being an ass, but I suppose he's entitled to his opinion as well. It felt like a waste of $250. I hope they can pull it back together because I want it to be a special place to me once again.

DIVE with all caps! The food was good, but the exterior cinder block was outdone in kitch-tacky by the interior dark panelling and red Naugahyde upholstery! The tables are so close together that if you don't know the folks at the next table, you will by e time your meal is done! We were the youngest people in the place... And we are in,our 50s! This place definately qualifies for "Wrinkle Room" status! The ambiance nonexistent, I mean, notwithstanding, the salad was great, the steak was small, but perfectly prepared, and the service was amazing! I prefer to eat in more attractive spaces, so we will not return, but if you are looking for great food at reasonable prices, in the tackiest of settings, Omar's fits the bill!

I ate dinner at "Omar's Fresh Seafood and Steaks" in Ashland, Oregon on 8/10/2012. It was my first time there. I tried the seafood at "Omar's" and it was very good. The fish I had was called escolar which I had never heard of. It was very good --- but I did not know that it is a contoversial fish to eat when I had it.

Stopped here on our road trip - not much more expensive than a fast food restaurant (5/6$ burgers) with nice decorations and friendly service. It has the nice feel of how service used to be in the 'good ol days'. Friendly waiter who was courteous to the women, called the men 'sir' and was very prompt and intuitive about our needs. The decorations are interesting old photos of the area and restaurant. Wood paneling with red Naugahyde chairs. Simple, manly and kinda kitschy. They also had an outdoor patio, which we were too hot to sit at - inside was very brisk with the air, I actually went and got a long sleeve shirt. Our family can be hard to please with one vegetarian, one who only eats poultry and two carnivores - but we all found a wide selection of options are were really pleased with the meals. The veggies on all the meals were fresh and quality. The mashed potatoes and french fries were homemade, and the main courses were awesome! Overall the meal wasn't too expensive, about $10 per person which included burgers, appetizer and drink for everyone. Things seem to be made with a lot of butter though, so if you're health concious I am not sure what you would find. We didn't go into the bar, so I can't speak to that.

Good food, great bar. Staff is all friendly and the atmosphere is always welcoming. Ribeye was to die for that i had last year!

Took Dad SOC class of 50 here! Great photos of old Ashland. Food was great, salad totally fun do-it yourself, and great service. Total old school joint with the chops to keep ahead of trendy!

We ate here on the recommendation of a client and it was actually pretty good. The decor is vintage by the fact that it has been there forever but was well designed in the 50's/60's or whenever it was built. Deep red vinyl banquettes and wood panelling. I had the fish & chips and it was delicious.

ROAD TRIP. 6 hungry ex-farm boys raided this place in May. What a great crowd and staff. No reservation and they went out of their way like family to get chairs and table together. Food was well cooked at least 3 stars. Staff 5 stars.

I love the red Naugahyde decor, and the food was really, really good. Go early for the earlybird special. If you have a chance to get tortilla soup, please do not miss it. It's like a chili flavored tomato soup. Yummy. The restaurant is not cheap, but there is a wide variety. Service was awesome, the waitress helped us out and brought me a spoonful of sour cream for my soup just because she thought it was a good idea

The place is spotless. The service was attentive yet not annoying. Now the best part. The Fish and Chips were the best I've ever had. They came with these incredible sauteed vegetables. The menu is amazing. The hardest part is deciding what to have! We will be back for sure!

Looks like a tiny dive on the side of the road, but this place is a gem once you're inside. I went with five other family members. It was a Friday night, and we expected a long wait. They had a table for us in about five minutes. I love the decor - it feels like sitting in an old movie. Service was a bit slow. I think someone had gone on break right as we sat down, and to be fair we were being indecisive. We never went without drink refills, and our waitress was friendly and pretty understanding as we (slowly) made up our minds. The food was delicious, and everyone in my family said they enjoyed their dinner. We'll be back!

I don't know how this place receives "Best Steaks In Ashland" GROOSSS!!! The steaks were all grissle and fat. It couldn't cut through it with a steak knife. And when we complained it was like "Ohwell". I defintely don't recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Omar's provides consistently great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. I don't get to Omar's very often - maybe twice a year - but whenever I do I consider it a treat. Order steak or seafood - that's what the place is known for.

Omar's is an old school restaurant and I love that. I ate here w/ the group I first came to Ashland w/ in 1975. I don't remember much about the food, but I do remember getting a dreadful whiskey sour. In those days it seemed like no one in Southern Oregon could make a decent whiskey sour. Times have changed. Although I didn't have a whiskey sour, my dirty martini tonight was good and I got 3 extra olives. Over the years we have been to Omar's many times, either just Nina and me or w/ Alan and Larry and w/ local friends. They serve steaks and fish and pasta. Entrees come w/ a generous salad in a specially designed bowl made by a local potter. We shared a prawn cocktail but it wasn't as transcendent as Nina remembered from the past, when it was served in a silver plated bowl on ice w/ huge prawns and cocktail sauce. These prawns were smaller, they were served in a glass over a chopped onion-like salsa w/ slices of lemon and carrots on the side. The salsa was tasty, but the cocktail wasn't what she remembered and expected. As an entree Nina ordered a combination of small sirloin steak and fried oysters. There was a choice of baked potato, garlic mashed potato or rice pilaf. She chose the latter. I ordered a New York Strip steak and had the baked potato. Both steaks were perfectly cooked, tender and delicious. She was pleased w/ the oysters too. The restaurant was full. We had a short wait for a table. The other patrons were a combination of locals and passers-though. We chatted w/ a couple who had lived in the Bay Area for decades and had relocated to Portland. We had started chatting w/ them while waiting and then they were seated at the adjacent table, so the conversation continued after dinner. It was a pleasant evening and we will return.

4th visit over 6 years of traveling through Oregon. Why do we visit Omar's for dinner. Great and predictable food. A wonderful fresh family salad with thick and home made blue cheese and roma tomatoes, garbanzo beans, hi cams and croutons on the side. OMG and that was just the beginning. O's Mac n cheese for a warm up. Butterfly pasta with a crisp and crunchy layer. Whew...worried that we over ordered. Could have licked that plate! Wife had a pan seared snapper with big head-on shrimp over shrimp polenta and fresh vegetables including unions, squash, carrots, and more. I had a combo of pan fried and excellently seasoned oysters , a rib- eye steak of immense proportions. Finished with a blackened surface and a olive vinaigrette BBQ sauce on the side. Fresh veggies and a garlic mashed foundation. I could not finish the steak. Cooked to perfection, just way too much.. There is no reason not to have Omar's in your GPS if traveling through or near Ashland, Or. We will be back!

The kind of place you go to because it has been there forever. The food is pretty good, although I found some of them to be very bland. Service during my most recent visit left me non-plussed. Serving sizes - you get what you pay for in qauntity.

My favorite bar in Ashland! The restaurant side has VERY good food and when I was living on campus I'd have them serve me at the bar, from time to time (love that). The small bar might qualify as a dive but really it's perfect. Good people, great drinks . . . it's our after-work spot Friday nights.

New York Strip and Flatiron Steaks are both very good. Nothing like a basic continental-steakhouse that cooks meat correctly.

Paprika beef was good, noodles seemed almost freshly made but the beef seemed a little overcooked. The scraps of beef seemed to be taken from other items and used in this special. The chicken vegetable soup was awesome though, hit the spot on a chilled day. Bar had a great set up with the exception of the video gambling machines in the back, good service for a dive, just what I needed from a long trip; a bartender that knew what they were doing and selling but not into small talk.

5 Stars Deserved Tonight - I've been going here since I was barely walking. This was "the" birthday spot (sirloin open face sandwich with salad tray) year after year after year. It's a roadhouse meets retro diner meets classic Americana steakhouse. It's indulgent without being pretentious: A perfectly cooked (medium rare) 7oz top sirloin $15.95 (looked closer to 10 oz - I shared with the other people in my party and was still stuffed), pilaf, a really good cabbage and squash saute and oh, the salad - what memories. They even have beer by the glass/pint/pitcher. $3.75 for a 10 oz. glass of Lagunitas - if they have it on tap, it's a winner in my book. The brussel sprouts on another plate were AWESOME! We couldn't figure out how they cooked them; they were flash fried, no batter. Don't eat fried food but these, oh, I'll eat these fried brussel sprouts anytime. The fried oysters/scampi shrimp were savory, as well as the awesome crab stuffed sole. The salad (oh roadhouse salad, no fou-fou stuff) no longer comes in a wood lazy-susan but the ceramic pottery is lovely even if it's smaller than in the past (or maybe I can just see over the table now and everything looks smaller). Red leather interior, some of the same waitresses (all friendly), 3 people with drinks out the door for $65 w/18% tip. For locals, check out the poster in the bathroom lobby! Go '99 Grizzlies - ah, sweet memories. Some may think it's simple or basic, nothing "special"... I was terrified of going tonight for fear of destroying sweet memories with a horrible experience. I was greatly and thankfully surprised that nothing has changed , everything was delicious, and I look forward to many dinners when I visit in the future.

For the prices and for the title "Fresh Seafood & Steaks" you would think this place wouldn't be so dive-y, but it is. The wait staff were very awkward. I think they want to be upscale, but when you've got the kind of atmosphere that would be next to a bowling alley, it ain't gonna happen. The food was definitely mediocre at best. I wouldn't recommend going here unless you're into dive-y, overpriced restaurants.

I rolled into town around 10:30 at night, hailing from the southern exit (11 off of I-5 North). The 7-11 looked to be a reasonable place to wait for the rest of the caravan so I stopped. Feeling malnourished, I went inside to see what was still open. The mildly overbearing and self-important woman behind the counter gave me a long look. "Well," she said. "If you don't want to eat at 7-11, we've got McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell. Scratch that. It's after ten. We've got uh... McDonald's.. and some sit down places that are probably pretty expensive." Uhhuh. The other half of the caravan calls and asks where the 7-11 is (they were approaching Ashland from the north). I mention it's right by a giant neon sign proclaiming Omars (it's plural and not possessive as someone would later point out). After a brief back and forth, we decide to plop our asses down at Omars fine bar. But, wait, I need to finish this cigarette. Oh. Snap. You can smoke inside in Oregon, or you can be overwhelmed by secondhand smoke. Mistake #1. Mistake #2 was ordering the coffee. This swill barely passed as bear piss. It was terrible. Possible mistake number three was ordering a giant cajun burger. So how do you get three mistakes and four stars? The coffee. Without prompting the waitress type forced some fresh brewed coffee upon us. Damn. It's better than Denny's coffee. The fries. They come with ranch by default (that's like three stars on its own). The burger. It was cajun. Blackened. Beefy. Score. The company. The proto-punk-goth-esque types neee malcontents sitting next to us. Food is more enjoyable when you have some gothed out kid mumbling about how he really doesn't look like "that guy from Queen" and how G.G. Allin had this awesome song about killing the kids to save food. The waitress. Yep. A motley crew of strung out looking out of towners wanders through and we still got appropriate amounts and type of attention. There was fresh coffee to be had, and proclamations of the best Ramones song ever. The beer. They've got Lagunitas (IPA) on tap! Score. It's like I've never left Marin. Okay, I'm not a huge fan of IPAs, but, it's a start. Now, if only the diner down the street from my home in the city served alcohol and was this bad ass. Oh well.

Amazing food. The fresh seafood mixed with fresh garden herbs. The chef is ingenious and creative with his dishes. Excellent wine menu that features the local favorite of Roxy Ann Claret. Very quaint old style atmosphere. Red leather chairs coupled with dim lighting makes the atmosphere very romantic, This is a must visit when in Ashland.

Had lunch there today. Grilled snapper special. Clam chowder was good. The fish was excellent. The mashed potatoes were stone cold! Also served with some type of cabbage stir fry. Fair but extremely salty. Would not go out of my way to eat there again. Sure there are better choices.

8 times out of ten you will walk out due to the SMALLEST amount of seating this so called campus bar has to offer. They also claim to be a fine dinning restaurant with old seating/decor? There are 12 items on the Omar's special menu so I'm not sure how they can be special? Most of those so called specials are on the normally greasy plastic menu everyday anyways. Nobody has been to a fine dinning restaurant and been handed plastic menu's, it doesn't happen. The bartender did not even know the NBA schedule... The website looks as if they paid $100 for some young kid to write typos with weird unappealing color fonts that do not match. Prices are no where close to the average college students budget. Bathroom has rust stains and missing tiles. Place looks as if the owner gave up or the business is sinking. But it seems the owner does not take criticism doesn't understand the value of yelp. It's free help!

I've been to Omar's several times since moving to Ashland and the most recent time I went was absolutely unacceptable. I love the atmosphere and the food at Omar's but the service was terrible. The host who seated us was rude and barely made eye contact and the server we had was almost hostile, slamming our plates down. I felt that because I didn't order expensive items off the menu I was treated as a second class citizen. I will not be going back!

Omar's was established in 1942 and is sort of an Ashland tradition, the entrance lobby has menus spanning the restaurants history all over the walls, a ribeye steak would have cost you $2.00 back in the 50's and the omnipresent 'Toad in the Hole' is still available today if you ask for it. It feels like a family run place but has changed hands over the years. We turn right in to the bar for a drink while we wait for our table, the staff here are super friendly and warm. A good selection of beers are available on tap (I ordered a Steelhead local brew, very tasty) and you can play video games in the games room in the back if wish to save the universe from aliens before dinner. Bar food is available, burgers and steaks along with the usual fare, I believe you can order from the main menu as well if you wish. Our table is ready so we walk back across the lobby in to the main dining room and are seated at our table. Big shiny over stuffed red chairs and dark tables make for an odd but comfortable decor, sort of diner flavored but then again not. It takes me awhile to work out another odd thing, there are no windows anywhere, giving the place a strange old town Vegas vibe. The menu is quite extensive and most of us settle for the Halibut crusted with parmesan cheese and veg, Bert orders a steak. I notice on the menu that two days a week they do not charge corkage if you bring your own wine, they will give you glasses and pour it for you as well! That's cool. The food is delicious although I personally don't love my veggies (I hate cabbage), it's much more than you would expect from a traditional diner while keeping it pretty casual. All in all a very pleasant place for a family meal, yes it's old, yes it's funky, but that is all part of the experience, much more expensive than a 'real' diner but worth it.

On my recent trip to Ashland we stopped in for dinner. While I ordered steak and it turned out ok, another member of our group ordered some seafood and it was HORRIBLE. Our appetizer came during our meal and was burnt beyond all hopes of eating it. I don't think that I will be returning to this place ever again. The only positive thing I have to say is the drinks that we ordered were very good!

We eat dinner here whenever we visit Ashland (a couple of time a year for the last 15 years). This is a 50's roadhose diner with quality beef and seafood. Threre's no pretension, the staff is friendly, the food has always been cooked properly and what we expected. The wine list leaves something to be desired, but the bar serves up great drinks and the beer is always cold. Come early if you don't want to wait (no reservations that I'm aware of) or settle down in the bar for a few drinks. .

This is just a good old-fashioned steak restaurant. Every time I go there and sit in the red vinyl chairs I am surprised that my feet can touch the floor. It's exciting, like I'm six years old and going out to dinner at a really classy place. We've been going here for years. The food is OK, but it's just tradition. Plus when I think of going somewhere else, I just can't give up the salad tray. Any trip to Ashland would not be complete without a steak and potatoes dinner at Omar's.

I ate dinner here tonight. Had the mac and cheese ala carte and the baked potato. Both were very good, especially the mac and cheese which was a huge serving. I shared a salad and bread with the group I was with and that was very fresh and tasty. Efficient service and polite and nice servers. Would definitely return.

When you see the neon you think dive, especially at night. That may well be, considering the place is divided into a restaurant and a lounge. I never actually entered the lounge, but considering how packed that side of the parking lot was, both when I passed by at night and when I returned for lunch, it's a popular watering hole. If its décor matches the restaurant--heavy over-stuffed red leather chairs and banquettes--then it's probably fertile ground for many a good short story, or perhaps a novel. Retro trappings aside, the place was pretty fantastic. I had really wonderful clam chowder and amazing fish & chips. The fish was snapper that had been lightly battered and fried to perfection. It was delicate, moist and absolutely delicious. The chips were steak cut potatoes that were deep fried and sprinkled with freshly grated Parmesan. I only ate two, but they were quite delicious. If I based my rating on food alone, it would be a five. Taking service and the decor into account, I have to amp it down a bit.

Omars may be old and tired. It has been through many owners and doesn't appear to have changed a lick in the last 50 years... and that's part of the charm. The food is great. The atmosphere is just dumpy enough that anyone (including our children) would feel comfortable there, but it is definitely clean and well-run. Yes, they have their off nights, like all humans do, but again, that's part of the charm. For some reason, Omars has become our family's special occasion restaurant. They serve good wine and have a nice selection of entrees that our whole family can find appetizing.

Four of us have been going to Ashland for years, and I'm the only one who has wanted to go to Omar's. This year the others finally agreed, and wouldn't you know, I didn't like it and they want to go next year. It's a dump, and the food is just average. Our waitress had been there 20 years, let's you know it and also all her problems. No thank you.

Delicious food. I want more of it. Our waitress was excellent with my tough order (gluten free, lactose free), but did forget my wife's appetizer. Friendly. Great with the kids. I'd go here once a week if only I lived nearby.

I rarely give this high a rating, but Omar's impressed me beyond my expectations. Not only was the food absolutely amazing (I had the Portabella Napoleon and highly recommend it), but the service was incomparable.

This place is known for its steaks and lots of fresh seafood speacials. We both had the pecan crusted Alaskan halibut special served with lemon caper butter and garlic whipped potatoes, and everything was tasty. Entrees come with the Omar's traditional salad tray - they bring a bowl of fresh lettuce to your table along with a tray of add ins and dressing (tip: mix their blue cheese with the house vinagerette, very yummy). The homemade multi-grain bread is worth risking filling up before your entree comes. It's Oregon, so the wine list only includes a few :"good" chardonnays and cabernets. I skipped the wine and had the local microbrew amber ale, not bad but not great. I opted for the homemade apple pie but I kind of wish I had gone for the signature hot fudge sundae - Willamette Valley vanilla ice cream and Dutch chocolate sauce. They don't take reservations, so either get there early or be prepared to chill in the lounge with a drink. Oh yeah, they have Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap. No joke!

  • Tomomi G.

It's an old fashioned restaurant. (no wonder... they've been in business since 1946) They have a wide variety of dishes to choose from. I like the salad they serve with each entree. It's a build-your-own-salad, but you it's not a buffet style. They provide you everything at your table, and it's quite filing. I believe it's Monday and/or Tuesday that you can bring your own bottle of wine. Since there're several good wineries around Ashland, it's a great way to enjoy the wine you just purchased.
