I would have really liked to give Callahans 5 stars, to me it was a 5 star experience without the finer points of actually being 5 stars. Let me start by saying: don't go for the food, go for the people. The highlights of a most wonderful evening I enjoyed at Callahans last weekend included the live entertainment (apparently "restaurant musician" is offensive...oops), amazing service, wonderful warm atmosphere, and the overall spirit held by all. Words do not begin to describe the feeling I had all night... the oldish couples holding hands drinking wine by the fire watching the musician, the musician who gladly took every request and knew pretty much every song from 1956 on and was so extremely talented, old Wally Crum who has been working the bar at Callahans since 1983, the angelic voice of the FOH manager (he rarely sings but if you have the chance to hear him its almost a religious experience), the friendly proprietors of the establishment who enthusiastically gave my boyfriend the kitchen tour so he could see the updates since the fire of 2006 and since his employment there in 1993. Food service stops officially at 9pm but the staff made exceptions almost into the ten o'clock hour graciously. The musician played until almost ten as well to the lingering crowd of maybe 16 people all with drink in hand shouting out requests in a refined classy borderline inebriated fashion. By far THE BEST TIME I have had in a restaurant since I can remember. I hate to have to say something negative about the place. The low point unfortunately was the food. My ravioli was swimming in an overpowering tomatoey pasty marinara sauce, and the Alfredo sauce on my boyfriends chicken fettuccine Alfredo tasted store bought at best. Also, the wine list is RIDICULOUSLY over priced to an extent I found offensive. The bar lacks any high end booze save Petron and McCallen scotch which I was told was decent. Other than that its pretty run of the mill stock. Even with the food as a rather lack luster component, I wouldn't miss this place if I had the opportunity. I specifically have changed my position on accompanying the boyfriend on his skiing trips since I found this place. They do an nice ski/room rate price package which I plan to utilize to get back into the restaurant this winter.

Stayed for a night and dinner on our way through Oregon and was absolutely blown away. The room was amazing, huge hot tub, wood burning fire place, amazing views from the shared balcony, and a bathroom I wish I could take home with me. Not to mention that it was actually two rooms! The dinner was delicious as well. Really fresh and flavorful scallops and trout. My scallops came on some pasta with very nice cream sauce. We didn't sample the wine so I can't speak for that. Dinner was on the big deck outdoors which had cute lighting along the railings and tons of hummingbirds at the feeders--what a treat! Callahan's was a real gem and I hope we'll pass by some time again!

My boyfriend and I went to Callahans on a Monday night for dinner. Decided to stay the night in one of their rooms. Did the $225.00 special. We got what they call the pent house suite on the forth floor. Room was not much bigger than their other rooms but being higher up did give a little better view from there small deck. The rooms are decorated beautiful. The fireplace and Jetted tub is awesome. Was disappointed though with a very dirty stained bed spread and the unvaccumed floor. For a room that goes for $220 a night I think the bed spread should be clean. Had a drink at the bar earlier in the evening. No bartender that evening . Elise was waitress and bartender for the evening. She was great. Friendly, accommodating to our request , and made a great Lemon Drop Martini. We enjoyed the wonderful cheese platter that was plenty to eat for a good price. We left to relax in our room and came back for dinner later. Elise was our waitress again and was attentive and friendly as before. Our salad were nice. My boyfriends scallop dinner was great. The thirty dollar 6 ounce filet was small for the price. Which I normally wouldn't care about but it was the toughest price of meat I've ever had. I must say the chef cooked it perfect the way I asked. To bad I didn't eat much since I couldn't chew it. Ken Hart was playing and singing . Love going to callahans for the music and the fireplace I've been to Callahans many times to dine and stay there. Love the lodge, the staff, and the rooms. I will be back.

Exit 6 off I-5!!! Don't pass it up Callahan's, thank you for the new more affordable room rates! That's great! Also, thank you for having Campari, a real wood burning fireplace and comfy couches in your lounge. You'll see us again during the coming cold snowy season warming what our momma gave us next to your fire.

This review is just for their restaurant. Stopped here on a drive up I-5 and will definitely be returning again! The restaurant is an elegant little space with delicious food, a wood burning fireplace, and on that Saturday night the entertainment (Ken) was charming and played lovely music. I got the veal with spaghetti on the side & my companion got the trout. It was the *perfect* break during our road trip and we're excited to go back again! Gotta knock 'em for one thing, though... when ordering drinks I asked for a Coca Cola and the woman brought me a soda pop. Later on that evening another server came by and asked if I needed a refill on my Pepsi. Awww, let me know which one I'm drinking!

We chose Callahans for the location. It's very close to Mt. Ashland and we had friends who rented a house near by. We got room 27 for 3 nights and room 35 for one night. Room 27 is just off the main dining room and has a pull-out bed so it was great for our 3 year old. Also, he could go out on to the patio or back lawn from our room which was nice. One thing to note about that room is that the wifi doesn't work there. We didn't love the speakers that were just by the patio door that were really loud until about 11pm. The wifi works great in room 35. The restaurant is ok but the dinner menu isn't good if you have any kind of food sensitivities (gluten, nuts, dairy). I had the pork chop the first night and it was so thick that it came totally raw in the center. The staff had very little to say about that which kind of put us off eating dinner there. Also, the waitress told me that they only have one kind of salad dressing when I asked if I could have one without hazelnuts. Who only has one kind of salad dressing? We ate breakfast there all 4 days and found it better than the dinner although limited. They do provide a free washer and drier if you need it and I loved how they catered to the hikers on the PCT. If you want to stay close to Mt. Ashland this is a good choice.

Worst veggie wrap we've ever had. Two of us had the wraps and one of us had the veggie lasagna. The wraps were mostly lettuce and raw red onions! The onions were supposed to be carmelized, the Swiss cheese was missing and there were no roasted red peppers we could detect. The veggie lasagna was a very small portion with acidic tasting marinara but otherwise little flavor. The fries were ok but too cool by the time they came to our table. The waitress was friendly and prompt , but the kitchen took over 40 minutes to get our messed up wraps and tiny lasagna prepared. ( there were only three other tables occupied) We really wanted to like this place since we read in the Sunday MT that they were struggling after the rebuild so we decided to have lunch there Sunday afternoon. If our experience is representative, I'd say they need some help in the kitchen if they want any return restaurant customers. Yes the economy is down, but if you continue to serve food like this, an improving economy won't be of much help to your business. Many better options in downtown Ashland.

What a beautiful, outdoor brunch/lunch experience! The outdoor patio overlooks an amazing wall of evergreens to the left. Hummingbird feeders along the railings attract some beautiful birds. The breakfast crepes were very acceptable. I loved the added fruit cup, too. They have quite a selection of mimosas, and I highly recommend the Very Berry. I gave this a 5-star rating based on the wonderful outdoor ambiance and the food. If just rating the brunch food, I'd probably give it a 4-star. We'll be back!

This is so much more than a B&B. The restaurant serves a great choice for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The patio has views and setting to enhance any meal. Inside, the traditional lodge setting makes for a wonderful meal as well. There is also a full bar for those so inclined. I'd like to see this rated not as a B&B but as a stand alone restaurant as well.

What a beautiful property! :-) The staff is so awesome! We got a wonderful room on the third floor with a fireplace and jacuzzi! :-) Loved the view from our balcony. Enjoyed playing horseshoes and dinner was simply fabulous! :-) Perfect place to stay after hiking Mt. Ashalnd! :-)

Mostly a very good experience. Check in was a little rough with the young woman working the counter. She gave us an unclean basement room. The fix was acceptable. Dinner was lovely on the deck with a very cultured and knowledgable waitress who also bartended almost as good. Truly a sweet person. I love that this is the 1st PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) stopover point in Oregon and has both class and ruggedness in one package.

It's a tradition to come here for breakfast on the way home from an intensive wrestling camp. This year, the staff was very accommodating for our group of wrestlers -- even after we came with a large party on short notice! The log cabin decor was beautiful and the food was delicious. I really enjoyed the vegetarian omelette, and the homemade pastry served at the beginning of the meal was the perfect way to enjoy a cup of locally roasted coffee. Looking forward to visiting again!

Traveling back from Portland to bay area but car broke down so we pulled into this lodge. Friendly owner, great staff including Chrystal and Wally the bartender. Great place that is worth a return.

Been there a few times and the first time wasn't that great. I decided to get a gift certificate for my parents anniversary and payed over the phone because they told me i could. After my parents eat dinner they give them the bill and my father's said my son took care of it over the phone. I wanted to do something special for them and they had to pay out of their pockets? As i call to figure out what is goin on with the bill . They say oh hay i was just getting ready to call u to let you know i will be running your card for $125. So i asked why when it was already paid for by my parents. I had to argue with them over the phone for 15 minutes because she didn't believe me that it was paid for already. Lol and my parents said they would of got the same service if not better at Olive Garden. Smh wont be sending anyone over there again. What a headache.

Do not go here if you want to be treated with respect. We were mistreated because they were unhappy with how a fifth person joined us. We waited over an hour for dinner and then the waitress told us to please speak to the manager. He basically told us they would not serve us dinner and we should leave. By this time we had sat for two hours had no food and they were extemely rude and hostile to us. The fifth person only knew one of us and we had no idea what she did to anger them but they would not reason with us. Stay away from here, we were four 60 year old women and I have never been treated like this.

Completely wonderful in every respect.......the room, the restaurant, the staff, the service, and the FOOD! We ate all our meals there over 3 days. Everything was prepared so very carefully.

I'm a local. I have dined here three times since May, 2012. Prior to that, dined here as a child. My childhood memories are far more pleasing than my recent ones. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre, and the prices are inconsistent with menu items. I can get beef stroganoff for $21 or a filet mignon for $28? That just isn't right. Service is a yo-yo. I think this place is good for the view/location/atmosphere/lodging. The food isn't up to par with the rest of the establishment. The constant live music is also quite irritating after 30 minutes.

Today was the first day they were serving lunch. Last night was their first dinner service since reopening after the place burned down. It looks wonderful, much the same but bright, shiny and more open. It was built according to the plans of a remodel planned before the September 2006 fire. They're still working on the landscaping in back. The deck is ready but the hummingbird feeders aren't yet up. We were w/ our friends Lynn and Gail, sisters who used to own an Ashland B&B and long time friends w/ whom we always have dinner when we're here. We had talked about going out to the Applegate Valley for lunch but decided it would be cooler on the mountain, hence Callahan's. We ordered the Martini Mushrooms appetizer to share and it was wonderful, rich and flavorful w/ gin and vermouth in the sauce. We sopped up the remaining sauce w/ bread, refraining from licking the bowl, just barely. We ordered our lunches and then took a tour of the place, guided by Sean (or Shawn), the genial young general manager. He showed us a suite and a meeting room. The suite had a whirlpool tub in the bedroom and a shower in the bathroom. Everything was attractive and of good quality. There is a balcony w/ two rocking chairs and a small table. The adjacent suite shares the balcony and has its own rocking chairs and table. There will be rooms available for private events, a real boon for people who live in the area. We returned to our lunch. Lynn and Gail shared a Fettuccine Alfredo w/ house cured salmon and a chicken wrap, most of which went home w/ them. Nina and I each ordered a hamburger which came w/ sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, slices of red onion and a whole pickle, which I sliced. All our entrees came w/ a choice of salad or soup plus fries or apple slaw. My hamburger came w/ fries when I had ordered the slaw so they brought me slaw too and I passed the fries around. The hamburger was good, though more medium than rare. The bun was sturdy and of good quality. The salads were good. The slaw and fries were just too much. I think it would be a generous lunch w/ just the hamburger and salad for $10. Our waitress was cute, friendly and helpful, although unpolished. Being the first day it wasn't always easy to find things like mustard and tea spoons and she didn't know the answers to all our questions, but she was great at finding out. Sean came back to check on us after lunch and encouraged us to linger as long as we wanted. We'd already stayed well beyond their closing for lunch. We felt most welcomed. Even though it was their first day and there was no publicity, there were a steady stream of people coming and going and the dining room was far from empty. They don't have chicken livers on the menu, which was the primary thing we always ordered when we stopped here. We lobbied Sean for their return and may just call him to request them on our next trip.

My husband and I heard some nice things about Callahan's so we decided to go there for my birthday dinner. What a mistake that was. The steak was charred on the outside and bloody on the inside. When we brought this to our waitress's attention she responded with, "Is it really that bad, it looks edible to me." We were completed disgusted with the food and the waitress's attitude that we requested to speak with a manager. To our surprise.....well not really.....our waitress was the "Acting Manager" and my response to her was, "Stick to acting because you suck as a waitress," and we walked to the front desk to pay our bill. This was the worst food and service we have ever had at a restaurant in Ashland. Very disappointing.

Snow covered lodge with icicles hanging from roof? check. Fire blazing in lobby and restaurant/bar area? check. Friendly local staff that were super helpful? check. Good, reasonably priced comfort food? check. Cozy rooms with 2 person jacuzzis and many with wood burning fireplaces? check. What a gem of a find, half way between San Francisco and Portland, right at the base of Mt. Ashland, was a great stop on the drive, especially to wait out tackling the snowy mountain pass until morning. Only reason I am not giving this cozy, perfect for what it is, lodge 5 stars? Room 13 which we got was right below the restaurant/bar area ... and you could tell from the noise. Won't stop me from going back, but don't recommend that room.

A little overrated, service was good, the drive up the mountain nice and the view from the dining area was beautiful, "BUT" the food was highly overpriced for what you actually got. The world famous spaghetti could have been made by my six year old niece and the salmon was dry ,someone needs to show them how to make cocktail sauce. If you live next door it would be good but don't drive all the way up the mountain for the sole purpose of eating there.

I would like to say this is an actual review but mostly it is an example of bad service. We planned a visit to this establishment while staying with friends nearby. We are baseball fans and upon hearing that there was a full bar here, we wanted to find a place to watch one of the games of the World Series. We arrived and obviously there was a wedding party present, around whom we carefully navigated, and found the bar. We were not badly dressed and we are mannerly people. We sat down to a clean, beautiful bar with lovely looking chairs and a large TV screen, which was next to a dining area. There was one other person present, and not seated at the bar. Great! We nicely told the bartender that we hoped to watch the baseball game. He told us that there was no way he could turn it on because OSU was playing USC in college football. OK, that was fine, but the football game wasn't going to start until the baseball game was into the middle of the 4th inning. We could have been accomodated for awhile, long enough to enjoy one beverage, but it seemed pretty clear that our business wasn't wanted. We left, and I don't see us coming back.

My Darling Husband surprised me with an overnighter at Callahan's. I was so excited! We have been before and the rooms are beautiful. This time our room overlooked a back parking lot and dumpster. Boo! Our dinner was ok, I had the lamb but it was slightly undercooked. The biggest disappointment was the dessert. Here I just payed over $30 for lamb and I was expecting a decent dessert. So we took it back to our room. Soooo romantic right? No, instead we had chocolate cake and apple pie from Costco. What were you thinking Callahan's? For breakfast everything came with Costco's three berry blend. We just expected some creativity for what we paid.

To start, YES the grounds are beautiful and the patio dining has a great atmosphere (except for the distant noise from Interstate 5). The dining mngr. wandered around, adjusting their FAR TOO limited selection of sun umbrellas, but gave our 5-top round table 1 measly umbrella, yet positioned 2 for the 2-top table right beside us. LOOK AT MY FACE IN MY PROFILE PIC for a photographic testimony of the lack of care among their staff. NEXT: I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy from the breakfast menu (served till 2pm and ordered at 12 noon). They charge $10.95 (+ local food tax) for this abomination. I was given a single biscuit that was roughly 2 inches in diameter and split in half and topped with approximately 2 tbsp. of pale, thin sausage gravy. I was leery of the portion size to start. THIRD: I tried to cut into it. My fork bounced right off. I could NOT cut through the bottom half of the biscuit with both knife and fork. I flagged down our server, who was nice enough (but there were others sulking around with nasty looks on their faces all during our meal). She returned my entree to the kitchen with explicit instructions to just bring me the salmon benedict if there were no biscuits from this century available. FOURTH: She did end up bringing me the Benedict dish, verifying that the kitchen KNEW the biscuits were not edible but had decided to serve them anyway. FIFTH: At the end of this tale, the Hollandaise sauce was broken (I suspect it was an old batch, reheated). And, on top of anything, by the time I received this second (substandard) dish, the other 4 people in my party had already finished their meal. ***NO compensations were offered***, no bill reduction (they charged the extra $2 for the Benedict replacement even though that's not what I wanted), no free desserts (we ordered two). On the dessert note: my mother recognized her chocolate cake as the exact same one sold at Costco for $15, but sold at Callahan's for $8/slice. We will NEVER be returning to Callahan's, after 30 years of family gatherings there; and I will absolutely be letting my friends and family know to steer clear, as well. **UPDATE** - I have since regurgitated the rotten Hollandaise. **UPDATE 2** - After reviewing the bill, not only did they charge for the replacement order of something I didn't want, the entire bill was $19.88 OVER what the menu items and tip would have been (and yes, I included the tax).

Love this place! We had such a wonderful time. Bill and I went for our 2nd Anniversary just a few days ago. The weather was great, our room was so romantic and comfy. I can see why couple want to be married here. The staff was so friendly and everything was very clean and tidy. At dinner Ken, the musician of the evening played two of our wedding songs, what a special moment. He is very talented. I would recommend Callahan's for a weekend, brunch or lunch its only 18 minutes from Ashland. Also they recently added some gluten free options for my Celiac and wheat free friends. Make sure to ask about the gluten free menu.

Thanks for the food poisoning Callahan's! this has been a day from hell. Ate breakfast there this morning before my three hour drive home and I still have yet to make it home in 7 hours because I cant drive more than 15 minutes without stopping to throw up. I have eaten at Callahans many times, but this will be that last.

We took my wonderful mother out to a very lovely and absolutely DELICIOUS Birthday lunch here on Sat, October 25, 2014. We all ordered different things and every single meal was outstanding. We had the French Dip (BEST I have ever had), Monte Cristo sandwich (melted in our mouths), Fish & Chips (fresh fish & bater was outstanding), Turkey Wrap & the children's Chicken Tenders (breaded with panko, oh so good)!!!!!! Our server Sara was so sweet and has a great personality that made us feel very comfortable. They have a beautiful warm fireplace that we sat by and enjoyed. A really neat sunken bar. The deck looked so pretty with beautiful flowers and a gorgeous green lawn below. We will definitely be coming back on a nice sunny day so we can sit outside & enjoy the beauty! Definitely a 5 star Lodge!!!

Not where I'll stay or eat on my next trip to Oregon.... let's see... Where to start? The entry was what one would expect in a mountain lodge -- and the patio was nice with all the hummingbird feeders and the little birds zipping around. And the front desk staff was cordial; Brandon even went out of his way to deliver some lights we could use as we took a short hike nearby. Our room was laid out nicely, but all around the edges of the room was a 1 - 2 inch wide swath where it had clearly not been vacuumed in some time. And there was debris on the floor, too, that they never vacuumed up during our stay. In fact, I never saw a vacuum cleaner on the housekeeping staff's cart. The toilet leaked; when we mentioned it, they tinkered with it but never got it fixed during our stay. We ended up turning the water supply to the toilet off after every flush so as not to waste water. The door to our room was missing a screw on the strike plate; we mentioned that too, and like the leaking toilet, it was not repaired during our stay, When we first arrived, we met the rest of our party out on the patio dining area for dinner. Funny how another table's drinks ended up on our party's bill. And that was only the first of at least 3 errors on our meal tabs. The next morning, my nephew's breakfast omelet had a thumbtack in it! Really! And though the breakfast fruit cup is nice, my over-easy eggs were over RAW. The biscuit? Let's just say it was something of a brick, because it was served cold. And the bill for two of us for breakfast was over $30. Not too reasonable for a total of 4 eggs, 2 biscuits, 2 cups of coffee and a few bits of fruit. We had a family dinner in one of their private dining/event rooms our second night there. The smoked salmon appetizer was really good.... but my filet mignon, which I ordered cooked medium, was charred on the outside and absolutely inedibly raw on the inside. Our server was.... sullen. Service, in fact, was agonizingly slow. And the next morning, while making in-room coffee, I noticed something disconcerting.... the glass coffee cups had fibers in them that looked suspiciously like the bath towels in our room. Exactly like the bath towels, in fact. So I got to work washing cups before we could have coffee. Methinks the service and housekeeping could use some definite improvement. Accuracy of the bill matters, and so does cleanliness. Llittle bits of paper should not be littering the floor of your room when you first walk into it!

Lovely memory of being here. My friends and I took a road trip to Oregon to see a play a couple years ago and after hours and hours in a car we were finally getting hungry but didn't realize that this stretch of highway was completely devoid of any food to be had. Magically this place emerged from the snow before us. We couldn't say no! The french dips. The french dips. Succulent and perfect. Oh man. I was the only one in the group who didn't get one, (though I was permitted a few bites of my boyfriend's), instead opting for the creamy mushroom ravioli which was easily also the best I've ever had.Tender and rich beyond belief. We were woo'd by the food and charmed by the cozy lodge feel. We left for Portland after and for about six years were unable to find the name of this place or any evidence it existed leading us to believe we'd had a crazy shared hallucination. So this re-discovery has brought back many feelings. Thanks Callahan's, for a singular experience.

Returned for a supper after several years. Still a great facility, service much improved, food greatly improved. Filet cooked a true rare & tender, flavorful vegetables, potatoes were prepared to my liking and good wine choices to pair with.

Front desk was very friendly and helpful. The lodge is beautiful and well laid out. Our room was clean and quiet, with a beautiful fireplace and spacious jacuzzi tub. Only drawback is that the wifi connection was VERY slow. It worked okay in the restaurant area, but dropped often in the room. We did enjoy the Easter bruch, which was amazing!

On Saturday night I came in to enjoy what I thought was going to be a lovely dinner with my husband. However our dinner was horridly interrupted by screaming and shouting in the kitchen with foul language from one particularly loud employee. Everyone seemed really friendly but the shouting coming from the kitchen by an employee completely ruined our dinner. I would never come back again. I've heard many bad things about the owners of Callahan's Lodge, however I did not know it was to that extent. I hope that I won't have to overhear another employee cussing and yelling over my dinner ever again. Overheard (close to the kitchen) that someone in the kitchen was physically pushed. Is this how they run their business?

We rolled into Ashland at dark-o-clock, sweet pooch in tow and no reservations. We considered a couple options - a fancy joint, some motel-ish places. But...we were on vacation! We wanted something a little bit more interesting. So we continued. About five minutes later, the snow was coming down and our little city car was definitely not ready for it. And then, all of the sudden, there was Callahan's! Damn, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay on this winter's night. It's a freakin' lodge! Complete with wood beams and pine cone hooks and a little bit of taxidermy. We were in heaven! Within minutes of arriving we were ensconced in front of the fire, drinks in hand, wi-fi fired up, dog curled up at my feet, live guitarist in the background...just soaking up the classic, wonderful, lodge-ness of it all. We stayed in the cheapest room they had - we were one of only two couples there that night - and we were happy as can be. The gorgeous winter wonderland right outside, the bubbly tub inside, a great big king bed - we were thrilled. If I were them, I'd take the whole old-fashioned lodge decor a lot further. The room is a little bit mid-market generic hotel meets woodsman. I liked the woodsy touches a lot more than the generic hotel stuff. The fact that Callahan's is full service really mattered to us - there was no way we were going to go out and find food in that weather. Room service it was. The food was pretty good - but tasted even better because, crap, there it was like magic. So what if they forgot some things? We have legs and scooted up the stairs to snag what we needed. For dinner, we had the eggplant napoleon and the cedar plank salmon. YUM. Good beer and wine too! The caesar salads that came with were not so good, though. Breakfast was eggs benedict and an omelette, with scones and fruit. Decent, nothing special. And the coffee was sort of lukewarm and half spilled. But, get this, the room included $25 towards breakfast. A nice surprise! The only negative: The bed was too soft. Oh well. But overall it was a homerun for us city folk...and so our new tradition is born. We can't wait til next year!

I actually placed a call in to the police department tonight regarding this establishment. My fiancé and I witnessed the owner completely overact to a couple dining there. The owner went so far as to physically touch the man and stand behind his vehicle as the customer was trying to leave with his wife and young baby. We do not know the entire story as we were dining at the bar (and they were just another random table seated nearby) but what we did overhear was a disturbance occurring. The couple was speaking calmly and from what we could gather, simply stating that they were un-satisfied with a dish. The owner was completely over reacting, accusing the man of wanting a 'free meal' and being very aggressive. It was very surprising to witness! I have worked in restaurants, bars, and small businesses since high school and have never seen such a display. The customer stated "don't touch me" and the owner physically did touch him after that statement! The family was wise to decide to leave and the owner actually followed the man, his wife, and small baby outside to their vehicle. Two other employees became involved and honestly they were only adding to the intimidation. My fiancé and I stepped in to support the family. As the wife, still holding their child, took down my number, I could see her hands shaking. She was being very brave and strong encouraging the employees to please allow them to leave as her husband was being verbally and physically threatened by the owner. The owner of Callahan's would not step away from the vehicle and stood behind it as the man was backing up to leave. At this point, I dialed 911. The scenario was unpredictable and luckily the two employees and my fiancé finally encouraged the owner to return to the lodge. The poor couple finally were able to leave; the wife sitting in the back seat still protecting the baby. Wow!! We couldn't believe what we had just witnessed. This establishment should not remain open. I plan to file a severe complaint with the BBB. Side note: We have stayed at Callahan's twice in the last few years and have dined here half a dozen times this year, returning for the adventurous drive, not on the freeway but by way of the lake. It is typically a special occasion to make the drive up and I imagine it was the same for this young family. We could only relate to their spite--our evening tonight had poor service and we were served a cold plate of pasta, that when we returned to the kitchen, was brought back moments later obviously microwaved. As our server was the old bartender (and we were hoping to have a nice evening) we chose not to formally complain. Imagine if that owner had talked to my East Coast Italian fiancé that way!! Callahan's please correct your wrong doings or choose to no longer operate a business that is meant to be served with a customer's experience and trust at heart. Shameful. .

Everything was pretty awful at Callahan's Restaurant. We came for a family birthday party, and the service was abominable. In a nearly empty restaurant, it took more than hour and a half to be served our food. When we asked why it was taking so long, the servers argued with us about the exact length of time rather than provide an answer or apology. The food was okay, but not nearly the quality nor portion sizes you would expect for the prices. Some items were cold and undercooked when we received them. The service was terrible throughout, and in the end, they offered to comp some desserts to make up for the delay. For waiting nearly two hours, they comped only 4 desserts out of 10- and one of those was the birthday girl who was supposed to receive a cake anyway. Don't go out of your way to go here; in fact, just skip it.

We really love this place having been here before. It is an unexpectedly wonderful hotel just off I-5. Just make sure you don't let them stick you in one of the three downstairs rooms because these rooms do not have a fireplace, have a damp smell, and there is significant noise from the restaurant above. When I called to see if they had any rooms they said yes, a corner room with a $25 breakfast credit, and quoted a rate above my price range. I asked if they had any other rooms and rather than answering that question, he asked what is my price range. I told him and he offered me the room for that price. I was very pleasantly surprised and said yes. When I got there the room was the above - described basement room - NOT the room described on the phone - with no breakfast voucher. When I asked about the breakfast voucher the woman behind the desk looked at me like a piece of trash and said there was no voucher due to my discount. It was a bait and switch, pure and simple. The discount ended up being pretty small ($15) rather than the great deal I thought the guy on the phone offered me. Despite the letdown we had a good time.

Soooooooooo cuteeeeeeeee. Definitely old people approved. Very secluded, very good serial killer feel. We survived. Oh, and the food was alright.

After a long absence we returned to Callahan's for lunch. We ordered the special sandwich of the day: BLT in a ciabatta bun with smoked salmon and fries. It was very good with crisp bacon and very thin slices of salmon that blended well. The fries were un-skinned restaurant-made and on the crispy side. One of the group reported her french dip sandwich was average. The service was a bit slow. The ledge setting is gorgeous with the fall colors near their peak and just few patches of the first snowfall the season left under a warm blue sky.

Boy, where to begin? Our family of 10 met here for Callahan's Thanksgiving Dinner (some from Oregon/some from Calif). With a price tag of of $32 per person (not including dessert) you'd think it was going to be pretty darn good. Nope. The portions were very small. The meal didn't even cover the plate. And none of it was warm. We had to beg a passing server for bread and when it arrived, it too was lukewarm at best....the twirl of butter that came with it was literally frozen. Callahan's is a pleasant enough place and we thought we'd be seated near the windows to enjoy the view...my sister specifically asked for window seating when she made the reservation over a week ago. Nope. We were seated in a dark, low-ceilinged banquet room with no windows at all. The server kept making snarky comments under her breath, but they were easily heard. It took almost 90 minutes for the food to arrive...I know it takes a while when a restaurant is busy, but well over an hour?? We all agreed that we won't go there next year.

This review is only for breakfast service in the lodge's restaurant. My wife and I stopped her for breakfast on our trip home from Eugene. Service was fantastic and breakfast on the back deck seemed to make everything taste better. Not the most convenient spot because it's in the middle of nowhere, it's definitely worth the stop.

Stopped in for dinner on our way home. Greeted and sat promptly (next to a nice warm fireplace), friendly and attentive staff. The owner even stopped by our table to check on us. The food was so good it was hard to stop eating even though I was full. Had the Prime Rib Stroganoff and have to say it was the best I have ever had in a restaurant!!! I haven't been here in quite a few years and it was just a good as I remember.

We made it all the way from Orange County to Ashland on our first day of travel. I am so glad that we booked a room at Callahan's for our first night out! The room was huge and absolutely beautiful, with lovely touches like little metal pinecones on their towel racks. The doors opened to an expansive deck overlooking the serene mountains of southern Oregon. Hummingbirds were everywhere and it couldn't have been more idyllic! We enjoyed a delicious dinner and also had breakfast on their beautiful patio the next morning. Everyone was so friendly and made our experience absolutely perfect. I'd give Callahan's six stars if I could!!!

Actually by far the worst dinning experience of my life, as iam the guy in this last review so lests start of this realistic review of the establishment, fist off I love that the female owner talk like she was involved but in actuality was no where around starts off with a bad meal or lack there of. As the owner comes over at my request and starts calling me liar snd an asshole and continues to tell my wife and I she ate most of it before the complaint as a huge pile of fat sits on plate as she tried to dalvage some kind of meal, any how after the insults start and him proceeding to tell me iam only there for a free meal haha not even close as we have eaten there many times and iv stayed ofyen in the past 10 yrs iv lived in the valley so free meal.....hardley I am a local business owner here in ashland and have worked very hard for myself and accept nothing for free. As I stated to this so called gentleman iam only asking for something fair as we came for dinner and my wife was neglected that any how after the indults and scene he created he stated he was calling the sheriff because I was refusing to pay. And the funny part was that my credit card wss in the black bill folder on the table but after enough glasses of wine I guess he "over looked " that but thats none of my business right! So as I mentioned to him as iam not trying to get something for free ill gladly wait for sheriff, he comes back and asks for my info I told him ill happily give it to the officer when he/she arrives, so then I was told to leave not asked but told to get the hell out if I promise to never return, I happily agreed as I was walking out with wife and 8 month old son he started to nudge my shoulder as I told him to not put his hands on me he continued to do it again, 4 times this hsppened as he followed me out to my vehicle blovking me from getting in it and then again nlovking me from leaving and as iam trying to get in again he again puts his hands on me as he yells in my face now how am I supposed to leave as requedted if someone is blocking me and how am I supposed to pay if iam escorted out? And as 2 other staff members tell me iam "out numbered" how am I supposed to feel safe or comfortable and if he was so eorried about me or my size why would any logical adult keep putting his hands on me and fallow me out the door getting in my face seems odd to me! A word of advice as we will be filing complaints with many organizations dont drink on the job and if you say you werent "working" why were you pouring drinks and waiting on customers? learn to conttol you drinking as your issue has now created a huge ordeal over the simple fact is I wanted my wife to have a decent meal not be harrased and insulted inside your own establishment I bet you really impressed a lot of people this night and I will continue to pass the word of such a horrible experience, thnx for reading the teal story

We held our wedding at Callahan's! We decided to get married pretty quickly, and even with the short timeline, it turned out to be a wonderful event. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The food was great, and they could even accommodate vegan diets - they told us they could make anything, so all we had to do was provide a recipe. The rooms were also fantastic, clean and comfortable. I highly recommend Callahan's!

Oh, dear! Callahan's restaurant has changed its chef and menu, and the change isn't good! the prices are way up and the quality down. Entrees are downtown Ashland prices ($28 for a simple steak. $30 for scallops.), and house specials like the antipasto are gone. The live music and location are still a draw. Relaxing to Ken's or John's mellow singing, holding a cocktail, and watching the light fade over the mountain countryside are still very pleasant. However, I was the only person in our group who seemed to have a fine dinner. My contribution to the appetizer sharing was to order the truffle oil french fries. They were crisp, tender on the inside, and lightly touched with the tangy oil. We scraffed them down happily (except for one of the party who decided she didn't like truffle oil -- oh well!). Then I enjoyed the wedge salad and finished with a thin crispy eggplant parmesan that was made with goat cheese, if I remember correctly. It was flavorful, rich, and satisfying. I was very pleased. But, the whining of my dining compatriots was considerable... and justified. First, the waitress confirmed that the wedge salad was a huge portion and could easily be shared. When it came, the size wasn't large, and she butchered the wedge when she spit it so it arrived upside down on one plate. The medium-rare burgers arrived well done. The steak was absolutely flavorless, according to reports. The vegetables accompanying the steak were steamed cauliflower and broccoli, I think. They looked like menu items from a 1970 heart patient's diet, and went uneaten. The scallops were good, but the accompanying pasta was way, way overdone and completely without flavor. My friend tried to tell the waitress about this flaw to be helpful, but we don't think the problem was understood by the staff. We will go back to Callahan's for the music and ambiance. We're just going to be careful about ordering and hope they restore some of the old menu items and quality.

Below is a copy of an email I sent to Callahan's. I waited 19 days before I posted this review on Yelp thinking someone would respond to my email. It must have fallen on deaf ears. We expected an exceptional dinner and walked out with a bad taste in our mouth. We will never go back to eat there again. The prime rib and prawn dinners were over cooked and of poor quality. The service was terrible. We were put in the back of the dining room although tables were available by the front deck window. Chuck B. ================================================= ----- Original Message ----- From: "Express-----@charterdotnet" express-----@charterdotnet To: info@callahanslodgedotcom Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2013 4:48 PM Subject: Recent Restaurant experience Hi, My wife and I had dinner Saturday night 9/21/13 at around 4:30 pm. Our waiter was Curtis. My wife had the prime rib dinner and I had the prawn dinner. My wife ordered and ask for the mash potatoes that the menu said came with the dinner. Curtis said fine and then took my order. I ask for mash potatoes too. So far so good. When our dinners arrived they had red potatoes on the plate. I questioned Curtis about the switch and he said "that's what the Chef said he was serving tonight". We told Curtis that the menu said "mash potatoes" and that was our request. I said "it would have been nice to tell us this before you served our meal,I would have ordered the vegetarian lasagna instead". That was what I was going to order before I heard my wife order mash potatoes with her dinner. When I spend $60.00 on dinner I expect good service. That didn't happen. a WEDDING NIGHT TO REMEMBER not in a good way! I chose Callahan's Lodge for a special night on advice from a friend for after my wedding. I should have turned around and headed for the coast when It took an extra half hour driving around to find the place. I stayed in room 10 on November 24th. when we arrived in the room and checked the honor bar we found two small bottles of water and that's it. After searching the hallways we discovered no vending machine for drinks or snacks. I would have brought snacks and drinks if they hadn't advertised an honor bar. When we checked in we were informed that they were now classified as a "Bed and Breakfast" and that the entire staff would be leaving the property at 9pm and all the exit doors would be locked. we were given a door code and emergency phone number. Callaghan's advertises free Wi-Fi but when we logged in under the password provided it wouldn't let us go online saying" access was limited" for guests and of course that was after 9pm so I had no one to complain to. I made a 6 pm reservation for dinner and found we had the dinning room almost to ourselves. I ordered the fried calamari appetizer and was pleasantly surprised at the freshness and flavor. As an aside the Bar tender apparently decided to sing along with all the songs provided by the Guitarist providing the evenings entertainment. My Bride ordered the baby back ribs and I ordered the rib eye steak these entree's cost in the range of 30 dollars. When the entree's arrived the ribs were burned on one side and not cooked on the other the BBQ sauce consisted of Ketchup . The rib eye was cut thin(not a thirty dollar piece of meat) and over cooked. The entree's came with a seasonal veg which consisted of shredded carrot and zucchini steamed to mush and the rice pilaf was steamed plain white rice sautéed to mush with onion and maybe carrot both were inedible. The entire meal took an hour and a half and cost me 80 dollars with a small tip. The last straw so to speak was at Midnight we awake to silver fish crawling all over us in bed....Yuck! We then got dressed and left back to Medford. The whole terrible experience cost me close to 300 dollars. This was the most awful experience I have ever had and would not recommend the place to anyone!

Excellent inn -- we were there 5 nights to go to the Shakespeare Festival (early summer) -- and the room was very nice and comfortable. It's a little far to get back after a play that ends at 11:30 -- and the only route is up a very tall mountain in the deep dark of night! You have to let yourself into a side door with a combination code -- and the door/lock are not very well lit so you can't see the keypad. My only real complaint was with the restaurant's breakfast menu. I ordered something different each day -- and every time the cook got the order wrong. I ordered a veggie omlette, and it came full of bacon; I ordered the 4-slice french toast breakfast, and it came with just 3 slices; I ordered a ham/cheese omlette-- it came full of onions.... you get the idea. Either the printer's didn't print the real descriptions of the offerings, or the cook didn't bother to read the menu. Either way, it was kind of funny. But a really cozy little lodge -- the seclusion was very nice, and the hummingbirds on the patio were terrific!

I recently had the joy of staying at Callahan's and it was spectacular. Our room came complete with a fireplace, jacuzzi, leather recliners, a giant cushy bed and a beautiful view of Mt. Ashland. It is a heartbeat away from Ashland, but far enough to allow peace and quiet. There was live music down at the bar, which has a fantastic ambiance and an amazing restaurant. The owners are just about the nicest folks you will ever meet and make you feel at home immediately. The level of integrity and thoughtfulness that is put into every detail makes this place a diamond. It is so clean and accommodating that you will forget that you are under someone else's roof, because it truly feels like home. If you are ever in the Ashland area, Callahan's is a must see, even if it's just for dinner. I miss it already.

Do not expect a relaxing stay if you have the misfortune of ending up in room 11 or 12 and the lodge is full. These rooms are directly under the kitchen/server entrance to the kitchen and they start getting ready for service at about 7:30am. The constant beat of feet on the ceiling above you will continue through the day. We could also hear conversations from the kitchen. These rooms also do not have a fireplace, even though they are advertised as such. Since the lodge was full we were unable to get a new room. The person at the front also didn't think it was necessary to offer any discount on the room (free coffee was offered...). He did, however, blame one of his servers for the problem after initially being surprised that we had a problem at all. We found that pretty insulting to us and I'm sure the server (sorry Sara). We went to the restaurant for breakfast on our first day. It took 45 minutes for our food to be served (crepe and biscuits and gravy). The server even stopped coming by our table after the first 20 minutes so I helped myself to the coffee she left in the busing area. I saw an 8 top on the way out after breakfast, which is my only explanation for the delay, but it was pretty disappointing service. I would have expected the server to take care of us or at least let us know what was going on. Everything else about our stay was more or less fine (cleanliness of the rooms, amenities, etc) so I don't feel it necessary to give a 1 star rating.

Right off I-5 and right at the entrance to Mt. Ashland Ski Resort, Callahans provides a excellent dining and lodging experience. We (2 ppl) stayed for one night at the Ski/snowboard discount rate, and got a terrific room (rm. 26) for cheap. We had dinner and breakfast at Callahans, and both were outstanding. For dinner, my girlfriend had duck breast and I had rainbow trout, and both were delicious. For breakfast, my girlfriend had the crepes and I had a custom made omelette, perfect breakfast before snowboarding. Definitely recommend.

Here is a copy of an email sent to the owners of Callhans explaining our experience: Subject: Extremely Disappointed Called for availability and were told there was one room left. We were looking forward to enjoying the suite and some relaxing time away. Drive from a wedding in Medford, checked in and went to our room. We opened the door to find a room that hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests. The front desk clerk offered to change the sheets and towels, but we declined knowing we would be paying $200+ for a dirty room. We had to drive back to Ashland to find a place to stay. We were extremely disappointed as we had been talking about staying at your property for quite a while. We hope action will be taken to ensure this doesn't happen to other guests of Callahan's And the reply: Dear Karin, This should not have happened. We are very sorry. Guests attending a wedding here had reservations for the room on both Friday and Saturday nights. Due to unforseen circumstances, they had to leave, but not until 3 pm, and housekeeping had already departed. Early evening, when I saw the room was vacant, the front desk assured that the room was clean and would be available for another (your) reservation. Thank you very much for taking time to let me know. Please relay your address and allow us to offer you a credit value to return. Circumstances such as these are very rare. We will certainly institute corrective measures. With appreciation for you concern for our future, Donna Bergquist, Owner Callahan's Mountain Lodge 7100 Old Highway 99S Ashland, OR 97520 'Our mission at Callahan's is to provide perfect food and perfect service to every guest, every time. It is each employee's individual dedication to high standards in a respectful, humble and team-oriented environment that allows us to succeed. Our success depends upon the quality of the memories that our guests take with them We appreciated the prompt reply and the offer "Please relay your address and allow us to offer you a credit value to return." When our gift card arrived in the mail, it was for $30. We are certainly not unappreciative of the gesture, but that still leaves us $210 to pay for a room that requires another trip up there.

Our stay at Callahan's Mountain Lodge was amazing. I was not expecting to find such luxury accommodations with such warm and friendly service. The food was outstanding as well. They even met my Gluten Free needs well. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It is worth the trip and a great place to stay if you are on your way to or from California.

We had the opportunity to stay at the lodge last weekend and had a gray time. The rooms were beautifully decorated and clean. The whirlpool tub and fireplace were perfect! We had both dinner and breakfast and both the food and service were fantastic. We only live 40 minutes away but it felt like 4 hours.

We stopped and ate here during a long road trip - with two little children! The food was really good. Yummy house salad pear hazelnut vinaigrette. We also enjoyed the burger, the stuffed chicken with yummy pasta and the fried chicken. What is really nice is that the outdoor seating is so fun. They have beautiful flowers all around and hummingbird feeders so you can watch these birds fly around. A short jaunt down the stairs opens up to a grassy lawn. This is exactly what we needed to let the kiddos stretch their legs. After getting our tummies happily filled and roaming about the pretty grounds, we made it home singing Callahan's praises. Thank you for taking such good care of us!

The three stars are for the restaurant. The lodge itself is fantastic. It retained much of its original rustic charm when it was rebuilt after it burnt to the ground in 2007. But now it is also a totally modern building. I have been to a couple of weddings there and it's a great spot for it. The restaurant has a great view, a fireplace and live music. The food is good but not great. The food is overpriced. For the price of the entrees I expect great to excellent. My scallops were tasty but the pasta and spinach were pretty plain without much flavor. Our appetizer arrived after our entrees. The waitress had forgotten to bring them out. Those things happen, but it defeats the purpose of an appetizer. It would have been nice if they didn't charge us for them. And what's with the dog? Some businesses will have a dog hanging out at them. I get it, a lot of people like dogs. But I think it is very inappropriate to have a dog roaming around a business that sells food. Is that even legal? I don't want a dog coming up to me when I am trying to eat. I may be biased, one time when eating here in the 90's I was actually bitten by one of the restaurants dogs!

What a great little place. I only came here for dinner and did not stay in the Lodge part of this location. It has a great all natural wood dining room with some acustic live music playing at dinnertime. You are greeted by a very shy dog " Blu" sitting next to the fireplace while you enjoy your scenic view of nature right from your table. My coworker enjoyed the moutain trout which came with REAL yukon mashed potatoes and veggies. The portion was big enough she had leftovers. I enjoyed the stuffed portobello cap. It was one large cap sitting on a bed of mushroom rissoto and filled with a zucchini cake. WOW! What flavor and the portion was big enough I had to leave some on the plate. Each entree is served with sour dough bread which had a great flavor to it as well as the salad. The salad included pears, hazelnuts, and a great vinegrette. Next time I'm in the area for work or headed back to Mt. Ashland, this is definately a place I would stop again.

My family has been coming to Callahans since the 1960's. Back in the day we would make the drive over from Klamath Falls just to have dinner, yes it was that good! Sad to say that over the past 6 years it has slowly gone down hill. The food used to be amazing with the "secret garlic butter" always served with fresh home made bread. Now it's store bought dry airy bread with margarine. The meal was not much better. Could be compaired to several chain restaurants just twice the price. Ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca, overcooked pasta, runny sauce that was nothing more than broth and maybe half and half. Mine was not much better. Thought about dessert and then found out that some of the desserts are from COSTCO. By then I was not surprised. To sum it up it is Denny's food at a 5 star gourmet price.

My husband found this gem of a lodge from Yelp reviews and booked it as our overnight stop between SF and the Oregon Coast. After 6 hours in a car w/ two young kids, this place was PERFECT. Friendly staff, roaring fireplaces, solid restaurant and a JACUZZI in the room. We booked rm 27 on the way up and back - we liked it for the kids because its balcony opens right onto the patio/yard. We also liked the live guitar they featured both nights we were there, the bird feeders attracting bright yellow finches and the 1/4 mile "hike" that wraps around the property. It's a place to truly relax!

One of the best places Ive stayed. I drove up from Las Vegas and randomly turned off the highway when I saw the sign. What a delightful surprise! Warm, welcoming, home-like, and relaxing. The front desk staff was impeccable. THe atmosphere was warm. The rooms were large, clean, with a wood burning fireplace already to light, large cozy beds, and a small hottub in the room. Also had a seperate large bathroom with shower, a small table and chairs, and a refrigerator. They gave me a 25$ credit for breakfast that was very tasty and cooked to order. Incidentally I needed to do some laundry and turned out they have a washer dryer that isnt used much except by hikers. The front desk staff can direct you there, it;s in the work shed. I met the owner there the next morning and she was very helpful. Apparently they live on site and help out if needed after hours. My only complaint was that the WiFi was not functional in my room due to location and when I came upstairs it was really slow. But for a satellite hook up, it's pretty decent given where it's located. Frankly the chain hotels could take some serious lessons from this place. Keep up the great work!!!

I have visited callahans many times and have never been dissapointed!! Very romantic and relaxed .They did a great job rebuilding after the fire, looks almost the same. This place has the most class of almost anywhere in the area. The mountain decor is great and so suits the area.the rooms are large and beds are very comfortable.I love the porches and my favorite time of year to come is spring-summer,although we came for thanksgiving dinner which was wonderful,we split our dinner and still had plenty!!! We will probabley go back next year.Beautiful in the snow, but I love the bird feeders and lawn in the spring.Food is good They could improve in this area, but have noticed it is better than before. If you want a weekend to just kick back and relax then this place is great.

We love this place so much we planned our trip so we could spend the night there. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves great meals. We plan to stop again on our next trip.

We wanted to enjoy an afternoon away from the house ... lovely surprises of live music, little girls dancing, amazing Porterhouse steak, terrific New Zealand sauvignon blanc.

Returned for a supper after several years. Still a great facility, service much improved, food greatly improved. Filet cooked a true rare & tender, flavorful vegetables, potatoes were prepared to my liking and good wine choices to pair with.

(Note: This review is for their restaurant only since I did not stay in the lodge rooms.) While they officially open at 8 AM, I arrived early and was seated promptly at 7:50 AM with smiling, fast service. The deck looked like a wonderful place to sit for lunch or dinner. I had the Siskyou Smoked Salmon with Hollandaise Sauce. It was excellent. The breakfast started with fresh fruit and a slice of sugar dusted banana bread. The main breakfast course was a very good quantity, cooked and plated very well. The taste was excellent.

Horrible food. Server was in a bad mood. Asked for mashed potatoes. Said it didn't come with meal even though it said on menu. Never coming back. Rooms are nice, that's the only pleasant thing here.

Please pass this on to Ron Bergquist. Thank you, Chuck B---- 711 Medford Center Suite --- Medford,Oregon 97504

a WEDDING NIGHT TO REMEMBER not in a good way!
