Decent beer. Good service. Ok atmosphere. But on a hot august day, the pilsner and AC are an unbeatable combination! Cash only is kind of odd.

Ah, history. I'm sure the building is 100 years old because all the buildings around the center of Ashland are. But in my memory it was the original Rogue Brewery. We had some good times there back in some earlier era. That seminal Oregon brewery got flooded out of Ashland in the storms of 1996 and now resides in Newport. Now Caldera Brewing, the upstart from the South end of town, has moved in to the space and is set to make their mark on southern Oregon. On the indoor side, a smallish bar, a couch and an electric fireplace make a cozy if somewhat spartan retreat from cooler weather. A stage in the corner promises some live music but not on this particular night. The decks out back (one with smoking and one without) provide about twice as much seating and allow for enjoying Ashland's pleasant evenings. We came not to dine at Caldera, but to drink it. About 10 Caldera beers are offered on the chalkboard, with an equal number of imports and other regional craft beers, as well as stalwarts Rainier and Pabst. I had a Dry Hop Orange, which doesn't actually count oranges as an ingredient but manages a hint of citrus from its potent fresh hop content. My bro in law had an Ashland Amber which was a milder ale. My sister on the other hand was most practical and got a sampler for $6. This allowed her to pick 5 beers, ranging from a powerful Treehugger Imperial Stout to a lively refreshing Ginger Hibuscus beer. Of these her favorite was the IPA. Someday soon they'll be doing dock sales of their canned beers from the new location. Meanwhile, we have to content ourselves with delicious fresh drawn pints served by the creek and serenaded by crickets. There are worse fates one could imagine.

They are awesome friendly!! I wish I had more time to stay and drink some beers!! Food was great too. I was traveling with a friend that needed wheel chair accessibility so we were wandering around trying to find a place for quick bite. We could not get into another little place, but they were more than happy to get us in. Fun place with fun peeps!!

Nice variety of really good brews. For a fun treat, order the 6 mini glass sampler for 6 dollars. Gets you a nice variety. You can pick your own, or have them select for you. Three in our party ordered them, and they gave us each different ones so we could all try many brews. Yes, they have that many. Appetizers and food fare is pretty decent. A reasonable night out in a town of some really good eateries.

I vaguely remember coming here back in the late 1980s, when Rogue Ale was here. I believe they were flooded out during an early 1990s, and after some tenant turnover, the Caldera Tap House now occupies this property. It's right down near the creek and it was running fast when we were here on this fine April day. Gayle took me here for my Birthday. We came here after the OSF production of Measure for Measure and had a nice time hanging out with our beers and a pretty good hummus and dip plate. Caldera also serves a nice selection of pub grub in a comfortable bar atmosphere. My "Birthday Cake" was 2 glasses of the luscious Mogli. This is a chocolate, bourbon, and oak-aged. Imperial Porter. Mogli is inspired by the loss of a beloved pet and is complex, sweet, chocolaty, big, and full of unconditional love. I've never tasted anything like it as it warmed my heart and spun my head around a bit. In other words, a couple of 10 ounces glasses of 8.5% Porter was more than enough to make me happy and enjoy the moment. Hopportunity was indeed knocking!

The thing I love about Caldera is that they make their IPA and pale ale available in cans, which is great for outdoor activities that don't lend themselves to glass (whitewater rafting and music festivals, for instance), and it's available in my local market. This was our first visit to their tap room in Ashland. Cutting to the chase: Lots of good beers. Shitty food. There was live music consisting of a dude on acoustic guitar and another dude slapping a wooden box for percussion, playing classic rock covers. Earlier in the day I was in a coffeehouse in Portland listening to a duo play guitar and mandolin to me and three other people working on their lasptops, and those guys could flat out pick. In short: Portland coffeehouse live music scene, 10; Ashland brewpub live music scene, 0. Plus, there was some super psycho freako crazy-ass flaming-intense Yoko-type in the room. Obviously a girlfriend of one of the band members, she was pacing around the small room, literally doing lap after lap, acting like her eyeballs were about to pop out because we assholes drinking our ales and talking to each other weren't giving her boyfriend the rapt undivided attention he so richly deserved. She was freaking everyone out. We needed Samuel L. Jackson to step forward and tell Ringo to instruct Honey Bunny to get a grip. "Tell that bitch to chill out! Say, 'chill out, bitch!'"

I've waited a long time to make it down to Ashland to see the Caldera Brew Pub. Big fan of their beer. They have an awesome selection on tap and the food and service was great. The outdoor seating is awesome.

This place is not easy to find. Google and beermaping.com both tell you to head to the brewery location, not the brew pub. Its downtown! The atmosphere is relaxed with a mix between locals and tourists. They had about 12 beers of their own on tap and probably 5 guest beers. We ordered two samplers and still didn't get to try them all. My favorites by far was their seasonal Couldron a double IPA. Burning into liquid memory for the rest of the trip. I also enjoyed their Hopportunity Knocks, Hibiscus Ginger Beer, and Mogli Oak Aged Imperial Porter. Caldera has quality beer and they aren't afraid to experiment with it. They were the first in Oregon to brew and can their own beer. Thanks for the variety!

The beer is GREAT! They are certainly holding up to the expectations as far as the history of the establishment is concerned. The food is a little on the "to be desired" side, but that's mostly along the lines of selection vs. taste. You will not be disappointed, good beer, great local flavor, excellent music!

The husband and I love beer. We are beer geeks, not snobby pretentious beer geeks, but we joy in the new, the different, amazing hops and want to share our finds beer geeks. That said we love Caldera IPA. There is nothing like handing someone a can at a BBQ in Portland and watch their nonplussed reaction. They are expecting swill, but Caldera IPA is sublime. That said we knew on our Ashland trip we wanted to hit up the Caldera Tap House. Friday night for dinner the outdoor decks were packed and so service was a bit slow, but we were philosophical because this is obviously a pretty popular place on a warm evening. I ordered the $6 five beer sampler. This is a screaming deal. Most breweries stick their most available beers into a sampler and only include one seasonal. Not Caldera, I was able to pick all 5 beers, and so had a line-up of 5 beers I had never even dreamed existed. The Ginger Beer (beer brewed with ginger, alcoholic not ginger ale) was great, an amazing summer beer. Light with a little bite. The other beers were equally intriguing and fun, some we loved and some a taster was enough (mostly the smoker porter, it was good but really smoky). The burgers were fantastic, they had obviously been grilled on a barbeque and had that summer taste. Mine had blue cheese worked into the meat and it was flavorful and juicy. The only down point came at the end, and is the reason they only get 4 stars. After finishing our beer we couldn't find anyone to give our money to. I have never had to work so hard to pay a restaurant. It seems our waitress had been appropriated as the bartender, she was so busy she didn't even remember me when I finally went into the bar to pay. Hopefully they get a bit more organized before the Shakespeare Festival truly kicks off and they are even more busy.

I like the atmosphere at Caldera, it's one of the least pretentious crowds in a town that can get, well, a little pretentious (am I sounding pretentious?) Wonderful array of local brews made on the other end of town, and they have started to bring in more guest taps from around the region. They also have a delicious salmon burger! One downside: Caldera has a tendency to shut down right when I want to go there. They don't stay open late often and it seems like they shut up early some nights? I could be wrong about this...

1st visit on a fairly busy night. It took 20 minutes before a waitress came around and by then we just wanted a pint as we needed to get to a play in an hour. My wife and I have enjoyed Caldera brews before and were excited to finally get to their tap room. The waitress apologized for the wait as it was her 1st night. No problem. We then asked her about some of the beers and the replies were "the helles is golden and the Belgian is chewy". When I asked her what kind of Belgian it was she became flustered and left to get a beer menu. She knew nothing about any of the beers on tap which is a major strike out for me. A tap room is a direct showcase for your beers Caldera and your staff knows nothing about them. Start training them or fire them. We will give it one more try later and hope for different staff.

This is what you want a brewpub to be (or at least what I want). Clean smelling, not-too-thrilling decor, wide selection of beers, knowledgeable bartender with a personal stake in the place, and real local color. Found this place after an unsatisfying two beers at pretty-but-lifeless Standing Stone. Wished I had come here first. Only had 2 of their beers. Both were good and I'd definitely come back to sample some more. However, I'd mostly come back because it had a nice warm local "we made this and we're proud of it" vibe and that tends to make beer taste good regardless. Didn't try the food.

I had a pitcher of there lager for $10 and I also had a 5 beer sampler for 6 bucks, which was awesome because its very hard to find a beer sampler from what I have found. All the beers were good me and a buddy split the pitcher and sat outside since it was a nice spring week in Ashland Oregon. All and all its a good bar because its nice a quite, good place to hangout with friends.
