I like this place. I usually forget about it as an option, so I have only eaten here maybe 5 or 6 times. I liked the food I was served each time. I was surprised by the jungle theme and found it to be a good change of pace from the same old same old. However, the theme turns my wife from liking this place. She claims she doesn't like the food, but I know it is a mental thing about seeing fake bugs and other jungle things as part of the atmosphere. This is a great homemade breakfast place to eat. The owners are good Christian people and always friendly. I recommend you give this place a try next time you want some good breakfast grub.

I was really hungry for breakfast and didn't want to drive across town to my usual place due to lack of time. HUGE MISTAKE. I ordered a omlet with mushrooms, onion and tomatoes. I asked that waitress if it came with cheese. She said yes. I asked her if she could add some ham and she said no problem. 45 minutes later, I got my plate. The omlet looked like a crepe, I saw a few pieces of ham (1/4 inch squares), no cheese. I asked for some picante sauce and was told that it would be a additional charge on my ticket. Needless to say, the next time I go for breakfast, it will be my usual place whether I'm pressed for time or not.

Ok, I was very un happy, from food to service I would have been better saving my $20 and eating at home. The over stuffed 3 egg Mexican omelet looked more like a crape with a little ham and a couple pieces of tomato in it. The pancake tasted like bisquick mix. I paid 99c for coffee and got one refill in 35 min wait for food. At one point I asked if It was a re fill your own cup place. We ordered a 3 bacon and 2 eggs, got 1 piece of bacon and eggs were barley done. No lemons, biscuits, or gravy at 8am?

I thought I would check this place out since it's on my regular Rte 66 bike route. I really wasn't expecting a jungle/tiki bar theme in an Oklahoma roadside diner but there it is. Don't want to waste much time here - food was standard, but the server treated me like I had broke wind in church. Guess she doesn't want "that kind" of people (bikers) in her place. Since the food was meh and the attitude sucked I will be happy to oblige.

There's a distinct small-town feel to Mae's; it's so very charming, so very friendly, so very... Yukon, Oklahoma. It makes for a unique experience. However, it may be an off-putting experience for some who would see Mae's and it's small-town sensibilities as everything that MSNBC tells you is wrong with America. We're talking socially conservative, religious right people who really like the second amendment. Just don't come in here judging is what I'm trying to say. Mae (along with all of the other friendly employees) will walk around and chat with the patrons. Sweet lady. Most of the patrons are senior citizens. In fact, I was easily the youngest person present. A sign on the door sums it up as follows (some minor variation may be present due to my poor memory): 1. Sit wherever you like. 2. Order whatever you want. 3. Eat what's put in front of you. Prices seem to be standard for a diner (not much to compare it to in Oklahoma). I got the Tiger Burger, which was just your typical diner burger that tasted good (~$5.00). The serving of fries was somewhat small (for me), and they were also just... fries. Honestly, the food doesn't stand out, but I don't mean to suggest that the food is bad. It's just not particularly pushing the "home cooked" envelope. My lunch-mate got the SoTD, which was grilled tilapia, mashed potatoes and gravy, toast, and green beans (with bacon in it; doesn't get more Southern than that). He seemed to enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed my burger but again, neither of us sat there going "OMG, that home-cooked meal punched me in the tastebuds." For future reference, tastebud punching = amazing. This was more like your tastebuds were kind of being poked awake. Or something. Oh, and their ice is like Sonic ice. I'll definitely be back to try breakfast. Apparently that's quite enjoyable.
