El Cabrito is a great lunch option if you want something a little less barbecued or fried and you happen to find yourself in Vinita, Oklahoma. You might be underwhelmed by the exterior and interior decor, but the minimum 10 waiters who are waiting to assist you will make sure you get what you need well within the confines of your lunch hour (or really, even a lunch half-hour). The chips and salsa are delish, fresh, and plentiful. I think my crew and I go through a minimum of three baskets each visit, not to mention the fact that they give us each our own salsa dishes. It's the little things. I've only been disappointed by one meal there and it's probably because I didn't order well. The fajitas are my favorite so far. The beans and rice are done well. All that for $5? Seriously, folks, there's no reason not to stop by.

Food was very quick and good but it was just missing something. I'd still come back to try something else but didn't hit the 4 star for me. FYI if you get the large guacamole, be prepared, it is more than enough for 4 people but was missing that lime taste I was hoping for. Chips were the good non stale style and the salsa was my favorite type not too hot but just right!

We visit Vinita a few times a year, up from Dallas area. Let me tell you, we WISH they would move El Cabrito to our hometown in Texas. Sounds crazy, but true. We love Mexican food, and eat out a lot. Recommend the poblano relleno, which they make on site. Food served on HOT plates and is always out quickly. Staff is great, prices reasonable. Even the music selection is better than most Mexican places; the Spanish Christmas music this visit was delightful.

What?? A good Mexican place in Vinita, Oklahoma?? Super!! It's a great change from the Sonic next to the hotel! So I get to travel here once and awhile to visit one of the frozen bread dough plants. Seems like a lot of meat and potatoes in this area... Where's the food??? Yes there's miles of diners. But I need more! I need Mexican!! Well, I've had better but considering the location I'm willing to let them have less than fantastic chips. The salsa wasn't as burning hot as I thought it would be which for me was great. I had one of my faves: chili relleno. It was stuffed with beautiful creamy cheese and the breading was light and crispy. It was a little greasy and soggy in places. The service was very nice and the meal was very reasonable. I'd like to go back and try some tacos or fajitas.

Will have to agree with Laine on this one (surprisingly). Love this restaurant as well.(I am a Mexican food fanatic) This is a great place for family dinners with kids. They have all the great dishes that you look for in Mexican food with really nice people and nice atmosphere and options of seclusion.

This is an okay dining experience, if you don't mind the "run of the mill" Mexican food. I usually get the chicken burrito. All in all the food is passable, but you don't really crave it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
