Staff is very friendly. The whole place is laid back. The food is fresh and hearty. Everything about this place is excellent. What a pub should be.

We go here a few times a year and really enjoy it. The food is usually VERY good, sometimes not, but where else can you get mushy peas?
(4)Karen S.
What a wonderful find! We just happened upon this wonderful English Pub. Very authentic with good food. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Ben B.
I love the White Lion. It is One of Tulsa's best kept secret. Great pub food and wonderful atmosphere.
(5)Victoria L.
I'm giving it 4 stars strictly because of the beer selection and atmosphere and not the food. White lion is tucked off the road and easy to miss. The entrance is a bit confusing and charming for the first timer. The tables are small and cozy you may even be seated next to the pho fireplace or in a private dining room. Old decor that make you want to smoke a pipe and drink whiskey on the rocks. The food is bad I mean really bad so just stick to the great beers!
(4)Danielle R.
This is the closest you can get to English food without going to a place like New York to get American-made pub grub. Every time I'm here, I get something new, and it takes me back to my 2.5 weeks in the UK. The Cornish Pasties, the Yorkshire, the chips, all great. Must be eaten with a UK brew on tap OR a hot toddie (which they make extraordinarily well here). If you're especially lucky, you'll meet the owner, who's a really sweet lady from Liverpool. The decor is warm and welcoming, and looks like a true English pub should. I hope this place never goes out of business.

Oh, how I miss the White Lion! It almost makes me want to move back to Oklahoma...almost. First thing one notices is the amazing ambiance. It is in a little Tudor style house. The small tables are in the various small rooms. The lighting is very low...I am a sucker for dimly lit restaurants. Second, the beer selection. I can't even find a John Courage in Texas, but they have it there. Finally, the food. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I loved the food. The various meat pies were sooooo tasty. They did have grease, but yummy grease. I have never found another spinach dip appetizer that I loved so much. To be honest, it sorts of looks like baby food, but it tastes great. To me, the portions are not small...they are just the right size for one meal, not two or three.
(5)Allison T.
Hands down, the best restaurant in town. Everything on the menu is tasty and there is an excellent assortment of beers and whiskies. I highly recommend the sausage rolls and the beef Wellington, if it is on the board.

I went to White Lion with two of my friends without knowing anything about the restaurant other than it is an English pub. White Lion is literally the owner's, Mrs. Betsy, house. Mrs. Betsy and her husband live upstairs above the restaurant. The restaurant was very small with four rooms with about 4-5 tables per room. We were lucky to get a table because the place was packed. The whole place was decorated with English pub decor. My two friends and I got three different appetizers and three different main courses. For the appetizers we got the baked brie and apple with crackers, crab dip with crackers, and Aunty Marg's famous sausage rolls. All three items were good, but the brie and apple with crackers was by far the best appetizer out of the three. The brie was just really creamy, and the coolness and crisp of the apple just made the whole appetizer a hit for me. The sausage rolls were good and they had a really flaky crust. The crab dip was cool not hot, and it had a little bit of a zing to it, which I liked. I personally thought that the brie was the best thing I had all night. For the main courses we got the fish and chips, the cornwell special, and the taste of the midlands. The fish and chips were delicious . The fish, which I recommend with the malt vinegar, didn't have a fishy taste, and the batter they used was great. The cornwell special was ok, but it was something I had never had before. The midlands though won the prize for the best main course. The combination of mashed potatoes, cheese, minced beef and carrot was spot on. Differently had all the bold flavors this guy needed. It also reminded me of shepherds pie without the crust. All the items were delicious, and I enjoyed my meal with a guinness. Also the staff was awesome, and even gave us a little bit of information about the place. P.S. I got the feeling from a few staffers that you don't want to piss off Mrs. Betsy. She was really nice to use, but also seemed like she could be a hard ass.

Really nice place. Almost past it while driving there though, so be on the look out.
(5)Lindsey I.
This place is awesome. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. There's a ton of history in the place too. Try the baked brie and make sure you have dessert too!
(5)Russ K.
Love this place! Great brews; great brie; great atmosphere!
(5)David W.
It gets no better than this place. Great place to go with a few friends and relax. Mum is the best and she makes the best Beef Wellington and Devonshire. I always look for the specials on the chalk board. They don't disappoint.
(5)Nick B.
White Lion is probably one of my favorite places in Tulsa. It is an English pub that has a great atmosphere for a relaxed night out. their baked brie is a must every time I go. It is quieter and smaller than most pubs I've been to. I am really impressed with the staff and the environment they have made there. I do have a couple friends that have been there and said they did not like it, but they didn't eat and are also people that usually go to loud bars with music. This is chill place to grab a drink and talk or have a meal. I was going to give it a 4 but did not know where it could improve .
(5)Clifford T.
This is my local. I've eaten hear many, many times with family and friends. It is hands down the best pub in Tulsa. Proper food: chips (thick & fresh), pies (fresh & homemade), bangers & mash, mushrooms (and Heinz beans) on toast, cheeses, and pints. Lovely, warm staff. Betty's got a great thing going and her cooking is good enough for me to overlook all the scouse banners & kits. Up the Chelsea!

I spent a summer in London on a working holiday, and I have to say this place is just about as authentic as you'd ever see state-side! The gentleman who owns the place was our server, and nice as can be. We were there for an early-ish dinner on a Wednesday and the place was about empty so we had almost his full attention. He was very personable and told some great stories. Ordered a round of beers while we looked through the menu. Just about anything you could ask for as far as British food: fish & chips (obviously), a couple types of pasties/meat pies, etc etc. I had the Cornwall, which was a pasty with beef, onions, carrots and gravy, served with peas and chips (of the "fries" variety). PERFECT! Paired it with a Fuller's ESB and I was back in the UK! At the end of our meal, the owner came by and offered a piece of chocolate cake on the house. This was the most gorgeous, moist and fudgey (without being heavy) cake I've had in a long time. Served warm and covered with fudge and whipped cream, it was a great end to the meal. 100% will go back next time I'm in Tulsa!
(5)Sabrina A.
I picked the White Lion randomly through yelp for a dinner out with friends and it was amazing! The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is traditional and delicious. What really made the evening though was Peter and the rest of the staff. Charismatic, friendly and generous, I haven't had that good of a time dining out in a long time. Looking forward to my next visit.
(5)Brian G.
Love this place! The food is outstanding and authentic! Wonderful Beef Wellington and one of the very few places you can find it! Also the staff are outstanding, friendly, accommodating and they know their stuff! I've been several times and hope to go several more!
(5)Valerie Y.
A cardboard cut out of the Queen greets you at the door. What more could you want? Interesting decor, a fun staff, and authentic English food are what make this place a Tulsa treat. I had crab cakes and veggies that were so tasty! My husband had cottage pie that looked divine. Of course we then had to try dessert- chocolate mousse pie was delightful. It was rather warm in the restarant and we were seated right in the entry way, which was distracting, but other than that this place is top notch!
(4)Allan C.
Amazing, amazing place . I'm originally from Newmarket, England military brat. Being states side I miss authentic English food and this place is legit down to the size of the place lmao. Celebrated my dad's 64th birthday today with an authentic British dinner. And of course the staff was amazing and made us feel at home. Can't wait to come back and meet the owner.

So far, this is my favorite restaurant in Tulsa. I found this place on Yelp because I was hankering fish and chips. Who knew Yelp had a category for that? Anyway, the place wasn't too far and the reviews were all good, so I went. First, the people are wonderful. Peter met me at the door and showed me to my seat and then Kelly took my order. Betty (the owner) was there too, and she's absolutely charming. I think they said the bartender's name was Bruce but I wasn't quite sure. I was having iced tea so I didn't get to interact with him at all. The room is cozy and well-appointed (meaning they have a lot of junk all over the place). It gives you something to look at. The menu is small but everything looked good. I only had one goal, however, so I stuck to my plan. The fish and chips comes with something called mushy peas. Whatever. How bad could they be? I ordered an iced tea and waited. The wait was not long and I tried the mushy peas. First, I should clarify that I do have a bit of a sweet tooth. Mushy peas are unique. They are peas that are allowed to dry out on the vine and then are harvested. They soak overnight before being cooked and they come out like green mush. But they have a sweetness to them that makes them really delicious. I could have eaten a plate of nothing but these peas and been just as happy. The fish was delicious; flaky, golden and crunchy. They have the malt vinegar on the table for the die-hards but for those of us who can't get away from being American, they also serve tartar sauce. Kelly made sure I had enough of that (bless her heart). After dinner I had a little tour of the restaurant and found that there are several rooms, all small and equally charming. The Winston Churchill room is where I'd like to be next time. I loved the way it was set up but all the rooms are adorable. Like I said, this is my new favorite restaurant in Tulsa so if you go, look for me. It won't be long before I go back again.
(5)Ron B.
Run by Peter and his aunt the White Lion seems totally out of place in sprawling Tulsa, and that makes it all the more special. Very cozy and inviting and all things British. No microbrews, no cheeseburgers; only traditional pub fare. The owners are super friendly and enjoy a conversation when it's a bit more quiet at the end if the night.

As a Liverpool England boy, transplanted to this wonderful country I was taken to the White Lion Public House not really expecting much. Boy was I wrong. I can tell you this was as authentic as an English Pub should be. Even the outside had a tree growing through the roof. Betty the charming owner, welcomes you personally in her inimitable English style. Have the Fuller ESB brown split beer, which is a mix pint of an Amber and Brown ale. Delicious. The food is tasty traditional pub style and cooked beautifully. The cozy rooms and interesting artifacts, are genuine. Trust me. Betty and her family live above the pub, again very traditional English Pub. You feel as though Betty has welcomed you into her home. If you think you're a football fan, and I mean the real football, be prepared as Betty is a rabid Liverpool FC supporter, and during our meal I got into some trash taking with an Arsenal fan. It's was fun and teasing so Betty cued up our famous You'll Never Walk Alone song which we all sang, much to his disdain. This is more than a pint of beer and steak and kidney pie. It's an experience I highly recommend. Could not fault it, but I am a Liverpool boy after all. YNWA Betty.

Great English pub food and atmosphere! Great for a low key date or to take the family. Everything is delicious and has a home made taste.
(4)Rick B.
Very good service and food. Enjoyed going. It was our first time. Gave my Wife a taste of what she got at home. She loved her Bangers And Mash. Recommend you try them out.
(4)Desiree L.
There are not enough stars on here to say have wonderful Peter and Betty and the rest of the staff of family are at the White Lion I love this place. The people the food and OMG!!! THE PIE!!! After you have had a piece of any of The many pies Betty makes any other pie will never ever even come close!!! Will go back every week. I'm thankful they aren't open for lunch because pie would be all I would eat all the time.
(5)James R.
Mushy peas!!!! Went here with a buddy of mine who hails from southern England because I wanted the 411 on whether or not this place had an authentic English feel or not. He was pretty happy with the place, his Guiness was very smooth and the pint of brown bitters we had was very good. He also was quite happy with the food and condiments provided especially the HP sauce. My problem with English food is that to me it is quite bland. I got a pasty and while it was cooked correctly it was bland. The service was great, and the beer was excellent. My buddy said the decor reminded him of some small town pubs in northen England
(4)Geary J.
A great place to have dinner, my wife has been to the UK and says this place is a treat. The food is wonderful as is the service. Go, try it out, you'll enjoy it!

The White Lion is my favorite restaurant in Tulsa! If you want to spend a quiet night in a Quaint English Village, or a corner pub off Piccadilly Circus and don't want to leave Tulsa, join Betty and Peter at "The White Lion." Save the air miles and try the same cuisine you will find in England, Wales, and with an Irish twist. Ok, I traveled the British Isles, and I am always pleased to see Betty and her kitchen! The Brie is better than anyone's in the states, and holds up to the U.K. quite well. Same for the sausage. The pie has authentic crust, meat ground, mash potatoes and Perfectly covered with cheese. No rush here, rather a loving culinary art. The desserts are masterfully created in house and if you don't want English thick cream, tell them! They are all delicious and try something different every time! Betty saved me years ago when my mother was in St. Francis for an extended time. I would get some meals to go and her 87 day stay went by a lot faster! Sadly she never was able to walk in to meet Betty, but she was certainly fond of "White Lion" days! Our nurse continued takeout throughout her life. These are the type of people who run this fabulous place! Friendly, happy to see you and thrilled to prepare a meal they are proud to serve and know you enjoy! The White Lion is a hidden institution known to special people who appreciate the love of good food and drink and the fellowship of others of like mind! May it live forever!!!!

This place will make you feel like you are in England! The food is outstanding, they have great beer and they have so many awesome 'things' to look at!! You can spend all day checking out their collection. Service was personal and exceptionally friendly. If you haven't been here, do it! The fish and chips are excellent and yes, they have Cohlman's mustard-yum!
(5)Shelby W.
Words cannot do this place justice. I met Kelly, my waitress at the door. I was the first one in as they opened. I met peter behind the bar and I couldn't be happier with him! I had no idea what any of the food was and he came over to my table and explained it all. I told him I trusted him and I wanted him to give me what he would want if he could only eat here once. He asked if I liked wine, I certainly prefer beer. He served an appetizer of sausage rolls which are extremely tasty, especially with Colman's mustard. He brought a bitter brown beer which was perfect. Minimal bitter taste and minimal nutty aftertaste. It's so amazing for my taste. He brought an entree of cottage pie or the midland. I was intimidated by it.. Layers of meat, potatoes, gravy and cheese. Peter recommended adding HP sauce on top. I listened to the man. It was delicious! Served with peas and chips. I couldn't be happier with my first dining experience in Tulsa. The atmosphere is so warm and cozy. I felt like I was in my great grandparents house, promised with good food. The beer was just an added bonus!
(5)Zachary W.
They've got all the British classics for dinner and all are priced around the $9.00 range. The food is descent but not necessarily spectacular. The highlight of this place is its charm. When I've gone it reminds me of sitting in my grandfather's living room or of visiting someone's home. The rooms are small, dark and cozy. No loud music you need to talk over. Friendly service. Perfect place to grab an after work or late night snack and to otherwise sit, drink and chat.
(4)Matthew R.
Had the sausages, Cornwall and Lemon Meringue pie. Great food and very relaxing atmosphere!
(4)Michael B.
Fantastic food and the atmosphere/decor is very cozy. It's a great place to go for a special evening. It is pricey but well worth it.
(5)Taylor A.
Very friendly people for a guy out of state. Food was absolutely fantastic. Recommend the brown bitter mixed beer and the midland. Easily one of my new favorite small places in Tulsa! The owner is very nice and from Liverpool. Their family works most of the positions during the summer when off from college. The owners are great. She walks around in an apron serving and he is a great bartender. They actually live upstairs. It's in an old house so it's a bit cozy, dark and segmented. Their front room is filled with house furniture and called the Churchill room. If you can snag it with friends it's a fantastic place to hang out. Parking is limited behind so you may have to park across the street.
(5)Jerry N.
Awesome place... Friendly staff and GREAT food.... A most go and eat!
(5)R J.
What a cool place! The moment you walk in the door, you realize that you have stumbled onto something special. Seating that is kind of haphazard and totally not cookie cutter. Had Peter as our server. I ordered the fish and chips and my girlfriend ordered the midland. Both good, but bland. She assures me that this is the way this type of food tastes, so I just added some more salt and pepper. My favorite part of the meal was the strawberry/rhubarb pie with cream. Worth it!!
(4)Ken S.
I just LOVE this place. The food is excellent & the ambience is awesome. Betty is quite the hostess. A taste of Manchester right here in Tulsa.
(5)Nick H.
Amazing great atmosphere. True authentic British pub. Staff was great, informative and attentive. Amazing British pub fare with a good draught selection. Fullers on draught will always get my attention. If I'm ever back in town I will be back for sure
(5)N.C. F.
I tried this place out the other night for a super-casual dinner. It was everything I had hoped it would be. Like everyone says, the decor really does make you feel like you've been transported to England. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. The food is real English pub food. Only wish my husband liked this kind of food better because I can't wait to go back!
(5)Chad M.
Amazing service, great food, and an authentic British atmosphere. Everything on the menu is delicious and would definitely recommend the brie for a starter. It is truly a Tulsa gem! The owner is very friendly and makes your satisfaction a top priority.
(5)John S.
Great atmosphere! A true English pub. I felt like I was in the UK, not Tulsa. Cheery and attentive couple served us and gave us some good recommendations. The food was great, and I could definitely see myself going there sometime in the winter when it's cold out to get a nice warm meal! This place is one of the top places in Tulsa that I'd recommend to locals who are looking for a change of scenery.
(5)Brian B.
Excellent place for authentic British food. Everything tastes as if it was homemade. No processed or pre-cooked anything here. Service was very good waitress was very accomodating for our large party. I highly recommend.
(4)Brittany S.
The atmosphere is great - a nice place to relax with friends. I had The Devonshire which was delicious! However, my friend had a chicken sandwhich which she thought was plain. Apparently the place fills up quick in the late afternoon so it's best to make a reservation!
(4)Brett P.
Authentic food from the old empire. Excellent beer selection. Food portions tend to be smaller than standard chains. Baked Brie, Bangers and Mash are just a few of the menu items you'll find. I believe they are closed on Mondays.
(5)Eric W.
Decided to visit this place after seeing it several times on trips to Tulsa. I am glad I did because it is excellent. Had the sausage and Heinz beans with eggs and chips. In other words an English breakfast. Worth coming in and trying very quaint atmosphere.
(5)John C.
I've never been to Britain but.....this place makes me think I have! Fantastic atmosphere and the proprietess was a delight. My wife and I came hungry and we were not disappointed. We both had sausage rolls for appetizers. Phenominal. This place is a treasure in Tulsa Do yourself a favor and go see for yourself!
(4)Tami T.
"mom" was a hoot, very enjoyable conversation with the bartender. Food was yummy! Enjoyed my night.
(5)Charity G.
What makes this place is the people not just the great food. If you are wanting the true English pub feeling this is the place to be. The food is outstanding. If you are fortunate in getting the bread pudding, that can be a meal all by itself. The baked Brie is also very good.
(5)Thom C.
Now we're talking. This is a pub worth visiting. It's in an old house and made to feel VERY British inside. The owner always comes by my table to ask how everything is and makes me feel like I'm right at home. There is a modest beer selection, but the food is unbeatable in Tulsa. If you haven't been yet, you should go and try the Cottage Pie, Devonshire, Bangers and Mash or Fish & Chips...well, pretty much anything on the menu, I'm always pleased.
(5)Jessica J.
I almost hate to write this review because I want to keep it my little secret, but White Lion is what I would consider to be a true Tulsa gem. Tucked discreetly behind other shops just off 71st St facing Quik Trip, you have to know what you are looking for to find this place. The White Lion is as authentic as it gets when I comes to an English pub with a dimly-lit, yet warm and cozy atmosphere. The place is owned and run by an English woman and her family. During our last visit, we were served by Peter, the owner's nephew, who was extremely friendly, funny and helpful with the menu. He told us some great jokes, answered all of our menu questions and corrected our mispronunciations. ;-) I would suggest the baked Brie and sausage rolls, as well as the Shepard's Pie...all pair well with any of the beers on the menu. I highly recommend this place on a cold winter night when all you want is to cozy up next to the warm fire with a foamy ale and some authentic English comfort food. Mum will take good care of you and Peter will ensure that a good time is had by all. :-) **Just an FYI, The White Lion is closed on Mondays.
(5)Kathy W.
Love to eat at the White Lion. It is like stepping into a real British pub. The menu is authentic and delicious. I like the Devonshire pie and the Cornish pie. It is a lovely place for date night or a celebration.
(5)Darren P.
Been going here for several years Betty the owner is probably the nicest owner you will ever meet hands down! The food is superb I am from England so I can tell you the food is really quite good! Betty and her son run the place with help from Peter Betty's brother. Betty and Peter are both from Liverpool so are super nice people. The only gripe I have is the hours they are not open for lunch or on Sunday's or Mondays. I understand that Betty needs the time off, but I feel they are missing out on a ton of potential business. I wish that they could be open more, but the team could step up and run it, but allow Betty the well deserved time off too. The baked Brie is amazing, and all of the pies are super too, the Devonshire is my wife's favourite. Being British I love the steak and kidney pie, and me mums, and bangers and mash too. I recommend a visit to the White lion especially for a date night.
(4)Vivian C.
Be on the look out for White Lion because it's tucked away near 71st and Yale. You won't want to miss out on coming to this English restaurant/pub. I found White Lion through Yelp after I had the sudden urge to get my hands on some beef wellington. I researched places that might serve this dish and found the great reviews. Unfortunately beef wellington is only served as their special, but I did get something that I felt was comparable and equally tasty! We also ordered sausage rolls for our appetizer and it was quite delicious. Overall I really liked White Lion and definitely recommend it!
(4)Gina S.
I love the White Lion, the staff is so friendly. It's such a cool and cozy place.
(4)Keith F.
The White Lion is in a small white house near the intersection of 71st and Yale. As a result it is easy to overlook, but as you step into the place under the Union Jack, it really feels like you are going into a real neighborhood pub in the UK. The decor and atmosphere are cozy and laid back, and the general "authenticity" of the place makes you want to like the place. (I put "authenticity" in quotes because I've never actually *been* to a pub in the UK, so I'm not qualified to say if it is really authentic or not.) With that kind of atmosphere and a wide range of beers you probably haven't heard of, you can't help but enjoy yourself there. The problem I have with the place is the food. Portion sizes are small and the food tends to be quite greasy. "Taste of the Midlands" is a sort of shepherd's pie they do there, and always highly recommended by friends, but the oil from the cheese sits in pools on top of the food when it comes out to you. Other dishes I have tried there (because I do want to like going there) were bland and unremarkable. I don't know what to tell anyone to get, other than the baked brie appetizer which is amazing. Verdict: Go for the atmosphere and the beer with your friends. Have some baked brie if you get the munchies later. Get dinner somewhere else before you go though.
(3)Madeline M.
The White Lion is hands down the best pub in south Tulsa. It reminds me of Christmas somehow, probably because that's when I'm always back in Tulsa. Their English/cozy ambiance with warm fire places is perfect for Tulsa's annual ice storms. Definitely recommended for long chats with old friends over one of the many lovely beers they offer.
