Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Eggplant parm pasta was pretty good. The side Caesar salad was disgusting. It was basically lettuce and a sprinkle of parm on top with lukewarm dressing that tasted like it has expired. If I pay $5 for a side salad I expect better. Definitely overpriced for the quality of food. Edit: the bottom of my Togo box had a hole in it. Now there's sauce everywhere. Awesome...

Went to this place to celebrate my birthday as I have heard good things about it. Food was pretty decent. However the service was a tad in the slow side. The vibe was just kind of weird. Had pasta and meatballs which were decent. The cucumber salad was good. Three stars because I feel that it really is not a place that I would go out of my way to go again.

Went on a Thursday evening. 1st thing we noticed they had a lounge singer. Talented, but way too loud that our family couldn't hold a conversation. Our server was very attentive and good about checking on if we needed anything else and how was the food. As for the food they pizza was excellent. Probably some of the best I have had. Flavor was good and ingredients seemed to be good quality. The calamari was lacking. Very chewy. Part of problem was the the quality of the calamari itself. Was very big which always a little tough. The breading was light and did not appear overcooked. My daughter who just returned from Italy said the prosciutto carbonara was a little lacking. Maybe not too fair using her analysis but if you are comparing why not compare to the standard? The prosciutto was too thick and overcooked. The taste was also lacking. Overall I think we may go back but not very often.

I had high expectations for this restaurant, but I was a little disappointed. I skipped on giving them five stars because it took so long for the staff to seat us when the place was not very busy. I skipped on giving them four star because we had calamari as an appetizer and it was SO overcooked. Besides these two things, it was perfect. This restaurant provides friendly and helpful staff, a casual, comfortable environment, and some delicious food of course. I wouldn't recommend the calamari - see above. I would highly recommend the mimosa if coming in the afternoon. They serve bread with olive oil before your meal. The bread was warm but some of it was pretty chewy and seemed like it was a bit old to be served. I had the chicken al pesto and couldn't have been happier with my dish. My mother and sister shared the spinach artichoke pizza with a white cream sauce. It was so delicious!! My father had his favorite - chicken fettucini, and he was more than satisfied. My little brother had the kids spaghetti with a meatball. It looked so good I had to try it. The sauce was so flavorful and tasty - probably the best I've had. I didn't care for the meatball because the meat was ground so finely I really didn't like the consistency. I would recommend getting the meat sauce instead of the meat ball. None of us had room for dessert, but I've heard good things. I have a feeling I will be trying something new next time i'm craving italian due to the appetizer and untimely service.

I have roots in New York and St. Louis and Tulsa's Italian eateries just haven't been up to really great Italian, until this evening. My son and I decided to have dinner this evening at Russo's near 91st and Yale, not far from home. My son has lived most of his 37 years in NY and Italian food is his fave. We were very impressed with the breadth and scope of the choices available--quite surprising for any restaurant. I had what typically is called 'tutta mare or tutta di mare" in most Italian restaurants. It's my favorite dish and is typically a pasta with a white wine, garlic and butter sauce. But Russo's was a truly amazing light red marinara sauce with a bit of zing and the dish was graced with fresh cooked calamari, shrimp, muscles and baby clams with all shell fish in the shells!! The pasta was cooked to perfection with the right "al dente" consistency. My son had a calzone that was huge and a good portion was brought home for his lunch. The smile on his face told me that we had picked a winner and one to which we will soon return. The salads, Caesar and Greek, were excellent. The pistachio cheesecake flown in from NY was wonderfully creamy and just the right amount of chopped nuts--pistachio, of course. In short, Little Italy just got a whole lot closer to Tulsa. As I told Anthony, one of the owners, and Damian, our waiter, my pasta dish will bring me back again and again, but I saw more than a dozen other entrees that looked promising for future visits. 5 stars and well deserved.

The food & service is outstanding. Tulsa OK NEWEST RESTAURANT. This will be at the top of the list here in Tulsa. It was worth the wait to get a table. From that point it went very well. We will be back & introduce our friends & family to great Italian food!!

Great homestyle Italian! The owner was super friendly and the dessert was to die for! Love love love! Check them out!
(5)Patrick F.
Amazing!! Cucumber dish is a great refresher, service is great, outdoor seating is great, very vibrant interior. You know it's a good place when the bathrooms look awesome. All the food is pretty good but anything that comes out of the fire is to die for... the Canolis are alright and the Tiramisu is really good. Buy a pizza and the cucumbers as a palette cleanser and you'll have a great evening.

Have eaten in the restaurant once and gotten takeout once. On both occasions, the food was consistently great. Really good all-around Italian. I left my credit card on accident when I ate in, and when I went back to get it, they were really thorough about checking my ID and making sure it belonged to me before handing it over. I really appreciated that (although I highly doubt anyone just shows up saying they left their card).

We went on Valentines weekend and even though it was crowded they took very good care of us! The waiter was prompt and helpful, the calamari was tender, and our entres were served quicktly and piping hot. The tortellocci melted in my mouth and the clam entre got better and better as the spaghetti soaked up the wonderful sauce. We will definitely go back, and refer friends!
(5)Mark D.
Good courteous service. If you like a sweet pizza sauce then this is the place for you, but not for me. They are skimpy with the add on's. Because I had one of their pie's the week before I asked for a double order of Italian sausage. I did not see a double order of Italian sausage when the pie arrived. Very clean facility. Alcohol is limited to wine and beer, no mixed drinks

Visiting from Texas I have to say one of the best pizzas ever! Anthony took great care of us and great atmosphere

I went here this past Wednesday and have been meaning to post this since. Im glad I remembered. I had a Mulberry pizza, it was spicy, meaty and delicious. Kinda like my waiter. JK HAHA, but he was great! If you do go, ask for Bryce! He made this 4 star review a 5 star experience! 5/5 would do again.

This restaurant had lots of promise when it first opened. I exclusively ate pizza here. The quality has just gone downhill since then. The "grilled" chicken has absolutely no flavor or color to it. It kind of tastes like they just boiled it. I got a side of marinara sauce and it was so watery I couldn't use it to dip anything. I now have to put a ridiculous amount of salt on my food in order to get any flavor out of it. Very disappointing. I thought they were going to be my mainstay. Another restaurant that'll just fade into the background once South Tulsa gets some better Italian restaurants. Too bad. I also find it interesting that ALL of their 1 & 2 star reviews are "not recommended." Seems fishy.
(2)Laura D.
Really good Italian! Chicken pesto and ziti marinara were awesome! $$$
(5)Ben B.
The pizza is great when you eat there but horrible via take out. We twice had pizzas that were burnt, finding this out after we got home. But, we really enjoyed the outdoor patio.
(3)Christina C.
This is my very first 5 star review and I'm so proud to say I found this place based on the Yelp reviews and most notably the picture of their pesto. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted, seated and offered drinks and apps by a very courteous server. Both managers came by and were genuinely interested in ensuring our needs were met. The calamari, mussels and chicken pesto were all fantastic. The great food combined with the impeccable service make this a five star restaurant that everyone should try.
(5)Kate J.
Just OK. Garlic Knots good. Beet salad good. Pasta not so much. Service OK. Soup was thick as gravy. To be fair, I didn't order their specialy ... pizza. But I'd hoped that this spot would offer other choices that I would find delish. I've been twice. That's enough for me I think.
(3)Ken G.
Great food and service! Took us on at 10 until closing and they smiled the whole time!

A few weekends ago, we ventured out to a place we never go.... South Tulsa. Not that we hate on South Tulsa, it just feels so far away and so removed from the little bubble we've created for ourselves in Downtown/Midtown. It was a big adventure for us and we needed an adventurous place to grab dinner with our family. Russo's seemed like the right spot. The staff was really helpful in getting our large party seated without a reservation. We were also being a bit annoying as most large parties, especially families, can be. My husband ordered water for the table, all without ice because, for the most part, everyone in this group takes their water without ice. Well this one day, when they all received the water without ice, everyone all of a sudden wanted ice. Our poor waitress was so confused. The menu felt similar to a Cheesecake Factory menu - it was a little book with an insane amount of chain restaurant type options. Typically that turns me off but, for our family, it presented a lot of good options to cater to everyone's palettes. The food, similar to the menu, tasted like pretty standard chain restaurant food (think Cheesecake factory or TGI Fridays with an Italian flair). The pizza was pretty good and the crust was wonderfully thin. Russo's provided a pleasant experience during our trip down to South Tulsa and served its purpose as a convenient restaurant for a large group.
(3)Glenn F.
This place is mediocre at best. Ordered take out. Pizza was not hot. Also, clearly toppings just dumped on a prefab pie instead of integrated from scratch. I could go on. Best salad was really less than average too. Don't know if the place across the street is better, but will try it next time. Super disappointed.

This is my third time to eat at Russo's but my first time to enjoy dinner rather than lunch. We have a one year old, so we were trying to find a place we could get into quickly on a Friday night around 6:30 and this fit the bill. They did fill up as we finished eating but it was great to get in and out before the baby started setting off fireworks. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer which was well seasoned but a tad over cooked. The batter was light and crispy and the sauce was nice and a little lemony. My husband and I split a Caprese salad with ripe tomatoes and creamy mozzarella drizzled with a balsamic reduction and a little Olive oil. I had the Cannelloni as my entree, a mixture of chicken, cheese and spinach (I think) stuffed in a pasta tube and covered in tomato sauce and cheese before being baked in the oven. I thought it was great, well seasoned, bubbly and delicious. A table near us was parading a giant piece of chocolate around and so we decided to indulge. The six of us at the table shared a piece of the chocolate cake and the red velvet cake. Holy crap! I am SUPER particular about restaurant cake, normally it is dry and the frosting is greasy but not this cake. Both were divine but I thought the red velvet was a little more interesting than the chocolate because I'm partial to cream cheese frosting. Our server was very attentive, everything came out as we ordered it (even the special request) and the manager stopped by to check in which is always a nice touch. We will be back. Don't go Friday night at 6:30, that is our time!

Being a huge fan of new york style pizza, i was quite excited when i heard about the new Russo's Coal Fired Italian. My husband and I viewed the menu and immediately made the trip. It was packed on a Friday night, but we were happy to wait. This place makes my list of Acceptable Chain Restuarants, Pizza Pizza!, AND Best Tulsa Italian! The menu is surprisingly extensive for a pizza-centric Italian joint. There are a variety of pastas, salads, sandwiches, and appetizers in addition to pizza. I've had the pizza both times I've visited and it's very good, with a great selection of yummy toppings. It's not *Quite* the floppy, foldable pizza you expect from NY style, but the crust is good, the sauce is delicious, and it's all-around good pizza. My husband had pasta with bolognese sauce, which was delicious. I was going to try one of their pastas on our second visit, but I just couldn't pass up the pizza! My weakness as a Yelp reviewer is that I tend to get the Exact. Same. Thing. every single time I go to a restaurant. Why mess with perfection? On the appetizer side, both the garlic knots (it's hard to go wrong with garlic knots) and the Arancini (Sicilian rice balls loaded with Italian herbs, Grana Padano romano cheese and bolognese sauce) are very good. The homemade marinara served with the garlic knots is some of the best I can remember having. I'm anxious to try the coal fired wings. Next time!

As a annual guest to Tulsa, this is now one of the highlights of my trip! Friendly attentive staff. I dream about the grilled wood chicken wings and the kale Caesar salad! All pizzas are tasty. Can't go wrong for a meal here!
(5)Kurt H.
First off---I do not like chain restaurants. Second off----I HATE chain Italian restaurants!! After this meal I will have to re-think this philosophy. The place has been open for three days and served one of the best Italian meals that I have ever had. (Keep in mind I am an east coast guy and I know my Italian!) We were forgotten for a short time after we were seated, but once out server Bob got to us the service was excellent. He was attentive, but not overbearing. We ordered the prosciutto pizza, chicken pesto and veal parm. Every bite was better than the last. The pizza was super flavorful and had that great crust that can only come from a super hot oven. The pesto and veal parm were exactly what you would expect, but perfectly done. The flat bread served before the meal was a little inconsistent, some fresh and some seemed stale, however this little negative was nowhere near enough to keep us from going back. If they keep this up they can be one of the few truly great restaurants in Tulsa.
(5)Jimmy M.
My wife wanted Italian and I selected Russo's. This was the first time there but will not be the last. Food was great, staff was attentive and we'll informed on the menu. I saw several dishes being served to others that I would like to try and the pizzas looked fantastic. Would highly recommend this restaurant. I made points with my wife for taking her there.
(4)Russ F.
Loved the food! Chicken parmesan with big juicy romas in the sauce, may be the best sauce I've had. Wife's fettuccine was equally pleasing. Alfredo sauce was light but very flavorful. Great, seasoned bread with oil, vinegar dipping sauce. Atmosphere and service seems a little impersonal and dry, but had a nice time. It's a newer place, and we will be back.
(4)Mary G.
Have not eaten at the one in Tulsa but have eaten at the one in Houston. If the one in Tulsa is anywhere as good, all the other pizza joints need to watch out!!! The pizza is more than good if that's possible. My husband and I were blown away at the awesome flavors.
(5)Hurst S.
Aside from the consistent wait times...I really enjoyed my meal here. Excellent food, exceptional wine list, very good service for a new restaurant. Again, only real issue for Russo's could be that the facility is a bit too small. Overall, easily the best Italian in Tulsa.
(4)Troy A.
Service was great but food was a bit underwhelming. Had pizza, zucchini appy and Chicken Picatta. 2nd time here. Had pizza and salad at first visit. Have been to Italy and had great Italian in NYC. Not even close.
(3)T A.
Good service, attentive staff and good food. The spinach artichoke dip was wonderful- generous pieces of artichoke, spinach and garlic, and high quality mozzarella. It was served piping hot with yummy flatbread. The oil and bread served before the entree was quite yummy as well. It was a unique, flavorful bread. We enjoyed the spinach, artichoke pizza with the white cream sauce. The Harlem Beet salad was quite good as well- a large salad, generous enough to share. We arrived early- 5:30ish, no wait, in a comfortable atmosphere.

Initial impression is fantastic. Great decor and atmosphere. Not too impressed with the hostess having on kitten tights but not a big deal. I arrived waiting on two friends so I had to wait a little bit. Waiter came right to my table and asked for my drink. I will say now that my waiter was fantastic. Attentive the entire time, brought what we needed when we needed it. If it weren't for him, I would have given a lower star. So my parties only real complaint was the food. My calamari appetizer tasted like breading and fish. Which if you're thinking that's what it is supposed to taste like, you're wrong. There was no seasoning in the breading. I added salt, lemon and parmesan in order to eat it. Marinara was fresh but again lacked seasonings. My friend had the cucumber salad as an appetizer and she gave no complaints. Now for the main course. I had the seafood spaghetti de mare. What was on my plate was the ugly step cousin of the picture. Absolutely not worth $18.95. It was dull looking compare to the vibrance of the picture. Spicy marinara wasn't too hot which is good for me, but others might fight it lackluster. The actual mussels were small and overcooked. Shrimp were large but with the tails attached. There was only one piece of calamari. I asked for a small cup of Alfredo sauce to mix in to my pasta. $2.25 for a cup of cheese sauce. One friend had the pizza. Her complaint was that the dough was soggy but crunchy on the edges. She said it tasted like a bunch of ingredients on some bread. Again an issue with seasoning. My other friend has this marsala dish that she said was delicious. She also just had a baby so her tastebuds probably rejoiced in having a cooked meal. But I can't confirm that lol. The highlight was the complimentary bread. Unfortunately I can't rave on the oil either because of the amount of red peppers in it. Which I'm not schooled on the authenticity of putting red peppers in the oil, but none of the other Italian restaurants I've been to have them in there. All together, I know I won't be back unless someone else is paying. They did have some delicious sounding things on the menu. I don't know if the chef that night was just not on his A game but seasoning was not his strong point.

Pros: this review is a bit late since I ate here June of 2014. I was so excited to see that there was a russo's here since I loved this chain when I lived in Houston back in 2008. Back then, I would get the pepperoni pizza extra crispy. I loved the coal fired taste and the thin crispy crust. That's not what I got here. Private parking. No wait for table. Accepts credit cards. Cons: the pizza I got was thin and so very soggy. The sauce was too acidic and bland. There were only two parties dining on that particular day, but the waitress seemed so tired, put out at having to serve us, and gave the impression of being over worked. Needless to say, we haven't been back since that one time.
(1)Kira P.
One of the best lunch specials around. 1 huge slice of any pizza and a salad for less than $8. I was able to take most of my pizza home. The dipping oil & and bread is one of the best that I've had, which also comes with lunch. I've been here multiple times and the food has always been enjoyable. I love that they have house Sangiovese, hard to find and one of my favorite wines!
(4)Michelle D.
I'm visiting from LA and this was one of the better places to eat. They have a huge selection of pizzas/pastas/others that all sounded pretty good. I ordered the chicken pesto pasta but I honestly thought it was just ok. There were a few pieces of chicken that was just too overcooked.. Almost too tough to eat. The sauce was good and the portions are huge so that's a plus! The bread and olive oil is really really good. I would go back solely because of it lol 3 stars for the food but I'm adding an extra star because our server was nice!
(4)John C.
Let me first start off by saying, I would have given this restaurant five stars had it not taken five minutes to be seated by an employee, when there were multiple just standing around and looking at us. We did get here after the lunch crowd had left, so it was not very crowded. Once we were seated, our server was fantastic, and was on the ball as far as service went. He offered great suggestions, and the food was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the Chicken Parmesan! The prices are not bad at all, especially considering they give you enough food for two full meals. I will definitely be back here with more friends, and will update my review following my next visit.
(4)Lucky M.
Good food, large portions. Decent atmosphere. Outstanding service, all the staff were very attentive and nice. The menu is almost a book, lots of options.
(4)Richard P.
Food isn't too bad but it's the service that costs them stars. I know that they've just opened up and probably need a few more weeks to work out the kinks but that's where they are at this point. The place was packed when we went but people slowly started to trickle out after wait times reached 40-50 minutes.

I previously reviewed this restaurant and gave it ONE star. I noticed that my review had been "removed" from the regular view and had been moved to the bottom of the page and shaded - so as to not be noticed and was under the heading of reviews that are not "recommended" - as are all the other (14 or so) one star reviews of this restaurant. Apparently a computer program algorithm determines which reviews are "recommended", so you never get to see all the really bad ones. So, I will edit my review and give it three stars to see if it stays around. This restaurant should get ONE star or LESS. Here is my story. Ordered take out. Some of the items ordered weren't included. Had to go back to pick them up. Order was still wrong. Some wierd, inedible BLACK "thing" was in the marinara sauce (that was supposed to be bolognese sauce - with arancini!) - still don't know what "it" was - about 2 inches long and really hard and pitch black?? Parts of the Eggplant Parm was overcooked to the point of being crisp/dark brown that I could not bite into it. Ordered pasta dish with peas as main ingredient - not a pea to be found. Procuitto was rancid - the smell was as bad as the taste. Called to complain and warn them about the rancid meat as I did not want anyone to get sick, the manager was more interested in getting me off the phone than in what I had to say. He did not handle this very well - that experience was probably worse than the food itself. Another bad food experience from another bad chain in Tulsa.
(3)Dorie R.
We have been here four or five times and have really enjoyed it each time. The service is good, the food is great, and the ambience is really enjoyable. There are always managers present which keeps things moving at an appropriate pace. We arrived around 5:30pm last night and they were about 1/3 full. There were no open booths but the manager was very accommodating and seated us at the exact table we requested. There was one minor drawback to our dinner last night- we were disappointed to see that they took the fresh mushrooms out of the spinach artichoke dip, but it was still really good. Our server was nice but a little overwhelmed and unpolished. She smiled and made good eye contact and we could tell she likes her job and was trying her best. She made a lot of suggestions and seemed to be really interested in finding out what we like to eat and drink. The biggest thing we kept talking about last night was what a good value the place is (especially compared to some of their close competitors.) We had a bottle of wine and shared a salad and appetizer for less than $50 including tip. We normally order more food than that but we were full. Based on that, alone, we can't wait to go back.
