Mi Cocina is a refreshing alternative to the Tulsa norm of Mexican food. The location is ideal. Parking is not the best on busy weekends but there is free valet parking. The ambience is upscale but yet casual trendy. The noise level is loud when every table is full. It almost seems as if things echo. Just bad acoustics. The chips are homemade I believe, and if not they definitely fooled me. The salsa is good and the white queso is awesome. Has a small kick but really tasty. I always judge a Mexican restaurant by whether they can make the basics, salsa and queso! Well, they nailed it. There are two different rices available, Spanish or cilantro. You can't go wrong with either, although my personal favorite is the cilantro. The portion size is large so you would be totally fine sharing a plate. I've been twice and plan to return for sure.

The first thing that comes to mind about this place is "Eh..." The place itself isn't bad. But as far as food is concerned, not impressed. The chips tasted stale, and the salsa to go along was forgetable. Ordered the Chicken Fajitas, and they were just dry. I've had better microwavable fajitas. Upon opening the silverware, the fork had a dried up piece of what looked like a refried bean. They quickly gave me another set of silverware upon request, but that kind of stuff says a lot about the place. Also, went on a Friday night and it was extremely noisy. Beware if what you're looking for is a quiet dinner.

The food is was below average and our waiter was below average. I was surprised to get an immediate seating at 7:30 on a Saturday night. It was a special occasion and we had our waiter forgot our "special" occasion desert. I have been here several times before and felt like the food was average, this time it was left on my plate. My food was soggy and all tasted the same. I will say the atmosphere is really impressive. Hope they can pull there act together before they lose more customers.

I loved the atmosphere in the place seems like a really nice place to hang out with friends. We were seated an told someone would be with us but I our waitress (I think) finally came about 10 minutes later. The service needs improvements. I have 3 little girls with me and by the way who were very hungry and took 10 minutes for a drink. I was ready to order but I had to flag our waitress down again after another 10 minutes. Really guys! Place seems nice but it's not that busy!!! The food was delicious by far one of my favorites Mexican restaurants. I would come here again if I lived in the area.

Mi Cocina, is the best tex-mex food around. It's an import from Dallas from a long-time family restaurant. Mi Cocina gets it right and I'm glad to see it in Oklahoma. Get guacamole. Get a margarita (or 3). Get food and enjoy the atmosphere. The best drinks are the Mambo Taxi and Mambo Limousine. The Taxis is a frozen margarita with a sangria swirl. The Limousine is the same but with some Chambord added. You'll love it at the first sip. If not, the third one will be delicious and you'll love everybody around you. They pack a punch. I also recommend the guacamole. It's the best appetizer and it's a huge serving. You won't get a tiny little ice cream scoop of guac. I can honestly say there is only one thing on the menu that I don't care for. The rest is amazing. I typically get a combo plate. That's the Deluxe 57 if I"m feeling bold. The nachos are great and I've had my fair share of tortilla soup. One of my favorite dishes is the brisket tacos or even brisket quesadilla. I don't think the quesadilla is on the menu, but they'll usually do it. Really, you can't go wrong with anything. You will love Mi Cocina. It's a fun place to go with great food. What's not to love?

The food was better than most Mexican food restaurants in Ttown. I have been enjoy their great dishes from way back in the early 90's at there BigD locations. The food just didn't seem as fresh as all my past experiences. The server more than made up for the sight decline in freshness of the food. However I was not please with the actions of the young lady that seated us. We requested a different table than she took us to. Her change In facial expression and tone of voice was not expectable to me or my guest.

Well after seeing comments about Mi Cocina from my girlfriend while traveling in other cities, I decided to try them out. She insisted that I try the "Ernie's Chicken" with the sour cream sauce and it didn't disappoint. When the plate comes out with Mexican rice and a mixture of pico and guacamole, it doesn't look like it would be enough. However after you take those chips from the basket and scoop up the sour cream sauce with a pico blend in it, you become quite filled. The service was attentive and polite, and the only thing I found surprising was that they don't offer sopopillas for dessert:...that was a first for me...

Unfortunately I had an awful experience at Mi Cocina last night. Our waiter, Roman, was awful. He was disrespectful, harsh and seemed like we were inconveniencing him with every request. He continued this poor attitude through our entire 2 hour meal. First it took about 12 minutes to get chips, salsa, guac and cheese dip. One it arrived it was amazing but it took a long time. Then my table ordered some extra bacon wrapped shrimp and they never came. We asked Roman for some chips because both our bowls were out and he told us that wasn't his job. Then, my sunset fajitas didn't have tortillas until about 10 after they arrived at the table. And finally, I ordered another drink when our food arrived and it didn't come until after the bill was paid. This isn't my typical experience at Mi Cocina, but it was such an awful experience that I felt compelled to review. I hope this waiter changes his attitude. I still gave two stars because the food is great and the drinks are amazing. I like this place and will continue to eat here, but not if I continually get service that was this poor.

Memorial Day and a lot of places were closed on Cherry Street. Glad to see Mi Cochina was open. Everyone was super friendly from the moment we entered, based on previous visits I would say they have had some training. Great chips, more grainy than some, with a very good spicy salsa. Our waiter stepped up in helping my wife with her beer and lunch selection. She likes a lighter beer and his recommendation was perfect. Being a vegetarian can also make menu selection difficult, he went to the kitchen and had them make up an egg dish she loved. I also thought the sunrise sauce on my beef enchiladas was a great choice, also a recommendation...overall a great Memorial Day lunch...

Went in at 3:00 p.m to try and avoid the noise, not a great idea. I think my lunch fajita was left over from lunch, it was white, limp and cold, the potato that came with it was soggy and cold. The green onions on top were soggy and wet. The second time she asked how it was, I said not good. The server insisted on either re doing the dish or bringing me something else. I said it was okay, I eat my cooking all the time!. I ended up getting enchiladas, I figured they can stand sitting in the pan much better than fajitas. The enchiladas were food, the tortillas tasted hand made. The server was very nice and apologetic. I know now that they don't do a big business middle of the day, middle of the week. On the other hand, she said they have brunch Saturday and Sunday, we should give them another try this weekend. They open at 10:00 a.m on the weekend, pancakes, etc!

I'm from out of town. I was looking for a cool, local place with some good food. I found what I was looking for, here. You enter and meet beautiful, upscale decor. The service is super friendly. The restaurant is clean and well cared for. Most importantly, you can tell that they take pride in their food. From the salsa to start the meal, to the entrees with creative sauces and subtle flavors, it's absolutely delicious. And even better, the lunch specials are really affordable. So happy that we found this place! Thanks for a great lunch!

I went to tis retaurant on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. It was beautiful outside so we sat on the patio along with a few other peple. The waiter was very nice, but at the same time seemed to be out of it and took quite a while to even ge tus refills on drinks. I ordered the salad and soup as well as appetizers ro share with the people I was with. The food was very good but seemed to be over priced for what i was getting. $7 for guacamole that was made with maybe 2 avacados is ridiculous to me. I would go back again if I had to but am not sure if it is something I would suggest to everyone. On top of eating there and paying with my credit card I was charged an extra $10 on top of my bill when i left them a tip in cash. I called the restuarant about my issue and they kind of put it off until the restaurant manager came in. The manager told me that I would be getting refunded for the amount and took care of it. I was pleased, but it has been over a week since I have called and I am still waiting to be refunded for the over charge.

I say it all the time service has to be good in order for me to give a restaurant a good rating . We really have rarely been into a restaurant where they don't have a full bottle option shown on the menu. I have to wait to see if they have full bottle service, the waitress said they sold a few bottles and she would check. Of course the one we wanted they're out of so I told her to give us two glasses instead. She came back 5 minutes later to say they only had enough for one glass. ? I said ok, give it to my wife and she walked off. Then came back later and asked me if I wanted something to drink? Yes, I did. We then ordered, soft tacos for our girls, got crispy, my wife ordered spinach enchiladas got chicken? If it wasn't for the Christmas Carolers from the neighboring church they let in to sing to us, she would have gotten completely stiffed. Waitress seemed aloof and unaware. No whiskey or bourbon menu either. Food was ok, its Mi Cocina, so the chain does ok for new style Mex, TexMex. Won't be back.

Some of the best Tex Mex in Tulsa. White queso, sauces, etc. homemade. Generous portions, great value, light and fresh. Brisket taco to die for!

We visited for a Sunday lunch. The place has a nice atmosphere that is classy but not overly fancy. We had good service and a very short wait time. Our table had a variety of tacos and chimis. Everything was tasty and large servings. They used lots of fresh veggies. My taco was on corn tortillas - they were a little greasy and next time I will try a flour tortilla. The salsa was pretty spicy and heavy with garlic but tasty and made a great addition to the rice and beans. We had a good meal and a good experience. I would eat here again.

Mi Cocina is a great addition to Cherry Street in my opinion. fun atmosphere - I've come here on multiple girls nights and gotten great service and good drinks + food. don't come here for tex mex. it's more of an upscale Mexican taste, I would say. instead, get their brisket tacos, mambo taxi drink, and queso. delectable. they have a nice patio overlooking 15th street.. you can never go wrong with a patio. and I've heard their brunch is pretty good but I have yet to try it. basically what I'm saying is.. you should try it.

Our family of 4 had a great meal of tacos and enchiladas. My pico de gallo beef enchiladas with spicy Sunset sauce did not disappoint. Hubs got chile con carne beef enchiladas. Queso blanco started the meal. Also the food came out really fast on a busy Sat night.

  • Zena B.

Mi Cocina is a nice Cherry street stop for good TexMex in a really fun environment. First, the service is always really friendly and prompt. They tend to strike the perfect balance of coming by often enough so you never have to wait to place an order but not too often to cause you to feel rushed. Next, the food is pretty good - it's not necessarily crave worthy Tex Mex but it's satisfying and hits the spot. The drinks are great - everything I've ordered has been strong, fresh and not overly sweet. Finally, the ambiance is really fun and lively. It's a great venue to enjoy a margarita and guac on their patio.

A very reluctant two star review. As observed by other guests, the place is very nice but the food was disappointing. We ordered their fajita combo with high expectations. Other authentic Mexican restaurants serve fajitas either on a sizzling hot skillet or actually bring them perched above a sterno pot holder au flambe. Mi Cocina serves them on an aluminum platter which subtly resembles cookware, but the veggies look more as if the food was really cooked in a microwave oven. Fajita onions IMO should be either white or red onions cut in a wedge shape and braised to an artistic scorch, keeping that bouncy fresh appearance. Mi Cocina's onions were yellow brown and sauteed into a swamp bed. I wouldn't even write about them typically as a fajita platter should also have sweet peppers, etc., but these lifeless onions composed practically half of the entire portion of a meal which should really be a showcase entree'. Dinner was served with four of the smallest flour tortillas we have ever seen. They dwarfed the capacity of the nifty tortilla case they came in, and they weren't even toasted. Both the steak and chicken reminded me of meat tenders, like you'd find at a wholesale market freezer section. The meat wasn't even cut properly into fajita strips. No marinade. No poetry. No sizzle... Just "Blah". And... it all looked like, the bottom of a bird cage!!!! Atmosphere, architecture and wait staff (American Gladiators) were very upscale. Techno/Trance music plays at high volume and the people who enjoy it most, seem to be there more for posing or talking than genuine dining. Waay better food at Outback or Tally's.

I've dined here twice and the food and service has been great both times. I'm a sucker for a good steak quesadilla and Mi Cocina has one of the best I've ever had. The atmosphere, location, food, and service are great. You won't be disappointed.

Just discovered that Mi Co does brunch!!!!!!! Best brunch tacos and drinks I have ever had. Messina and Jill were a delight and revived my phone from the despair of a dead battery before I headed to Tulsa Tough. I'll be back ladies. See us next weekend

A nice trendy upscale restaurant to visit. The inside is very clean and classy with a quiet, open and airy feel to it. The salsa was pretty hot for being the standard chips and salsa offering but i thought it had great flavor. The food really hits the spot if you are craving something with cheese sauce, or a green chili verde sauce. Try the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Guacamole is also very good! Try the limousine if you want a good tequila drink. Service is excellent with a very professional wait staff! I used to eat at the Mi Cocina on the Plaza in Kansas City a lot before they closed several years ago. I thought that locations food was a little better, but our lunch was very satisfying and I will return again.

Our favorite Mexican in Tulsa! Two words: Mambo taxi. Famous enough to be on Conan, but three is the limit. We really enjoy the queso blanco with brisket (you read that right, brisket IN THE QUESO.) as an appetizer, and the sunset chicken fajitas, good for two people with some leftovers as an entree. The atmosphere is great! Good for date night or with a big group. All of the waitstaff is amiable and adds to the fantastic dining experience. Also, has a decent sized television behind the bar if you're interested in watching a game.

First time having brunch at MiCo and I have to say it was great. The food came out quick and tasted great. The service was top notch and the manager went the extra mile to help charge a dead phone. Bravo, MiCo, you're the best!

Love Mi Cocina, and have since we lived in KC! Great drinks, wonderful service(LOVE File, the bartendender), & really good fajitas! We will continue to be patrons of one of our favorite Mexican hot spots!

Was here today with friends for lunch. I've been here quite a few times, it is always really good. The chips and salsa were great to start out with. I had my usual, the lunch special #4-cheese enchilada, beef taco, rice and beans. It was very flavorful. Our waiter, Brian, was attentive and friendly. It was our friend's birthday so he brought out complimentary flan with spoons for all. This is also really a great place for dinner, love the atmosphere and the drinks are really good too.

Tonight I had the Ernie's chicken. It is my favorite- grilled chicken with a sour cream sauce, guacamole, and pico. I get veggies as a side and they are grilled as well. The waitress was nice and helpful. Brisket tacos are also a hit.

During a Friday night dinner, I couldn't tell if there was a club behind me with people dancing or not. This place has some serious energy! Service is outstanding. We were greeted and seated pleasantly and met our outstanding waitress. She took care of us with plenty of chips and salsa refills! We ordered a cup of queso for the two of us which was more than enough. The queso has a little bit of a spicy kick to it and is thick - pretty delectable! The chips were served warm and fresh. I went with something on the chef's special menu: grilled chicken w/ sautéed spinach and some kind of orange glaze on top. It was seasoned perfectly and talk about massive portion sizes! I had lunch off of my left-overs for a couple days! Hoppin' scene both inside and on their lovely patio! Definitely a date-worthy spot to get dressed up for.

BRUNCH--they now serve brunch on the weekend- 9am on Saturday (but no drinks until 10) and 10 on Sunday, The best migas with chorizo I have had. Also a wonderful quesadilla with roast beef....will return and often. Dinner-- This is quality food but not true Tex Mex nor is it authentic Mexican. It is very good high quality food served in a nice setting..... Stay with the specials and favorites such as Tacos Mi Tierra with serranos and onions, Tacos Habana which is chicken in Adobo, Crispy Chicken Enchiladas Verde for a change, Tacos De Camaron and for a treat the rib eye fajitas.... Finish it with a Perfect Margarita handmade with Patron.

The atmosphere is pleasant. The salsa is very peppery. You can order it hotter or mild. We got guacamole and pollo con mole. Both were good, but the moles a bit sweet.

The food was pretty good, decent location, good lighting, and some good service. make sure to check out all the hot sauces. There are a handful, 7 to be honest, and there are some better than others... One thing to be sure to order, is their GUACAMOLE.... Best I have had, hands down, in a LONG time....... 4 stars, as it takes alot to really impress me..

Excellent atmosphere. The food and drinks aren't cheap, but they are most definitely worth the premium. I highly recommend their queso; make sure to ask for brisket to be put in it. Also, their brisket quesadillas are exquisite.

  • Daisi B.

I loved this restaurant in Dallas and I love it here on Cherry Street! The fajitas are my favorite by far. And their guacamole is definitely worth ordering. The white queso is also a quality purchase. I'm not a coke drinker, but I've heard they're pretty pricey ($2 for a can), so steer clear if you want to spend your money on other things. The service was a bit off the first couple weeks in business, but I'd say they're on track now. Definitley give it a try!

  • Debby B.

Loved the atmosphere overall. We sat where we could see the bar/NFL game so that was a plus but a cold draft was over my neck the entire dinner The fajitas (both chicken and steak) were excellent quality meat. The skillets did not come out sizzling and found the onions underneath to be very crunchy, don't think the food was actually cooked on the skillet or was it hot enough to serve. The tortillas were laughable. The salsa and guacamole were both tasty. Service was ~meh~.

This is a great restaurant! Service has always been fantastic and the food is even better. Order the fajitas and a mambo taxi and you won't regret it. This is a perfect place to go with a group of friends and its also a very romantic place for a date. If you like tex-mex but want to go somewhere classier, go to Mi Cocina!

Loved Mi Cocina in Dallas and glad we have one on Cherry Street. Try the Brisket De Tacos. They're awesome. My wife loves the Crispy Chicken Enchilada Verde. The food is fresh and flavorful. The restaurant is noisy and don't expect to be in and out in 30 minutes or you'll be disappointed. If you don't mind the noise, the food is worth the wait.

I tried this place last week for the first time. The food is excellent, but the service is very slow. We started with the chips and guacamole which was very good. For entrees I had the Tacos Mi Tierra, which were fantastic. They are very spicy due to the serrano peppers, so if you are sensitive to spicy food ask for them to reduce the amount of peppers. I happen to love spicy food, so they were a very nice surprise. Overall, we were all very happy with our food, and despite the slow service, I would not hesitate to come back here! With better service, this would definitely get a 5 star rating.

  • Amanda K.

Suprised so many of you rated this place as high as you did. First off, the decor is pretty awesome, nice seating arrangements and very classy looking. The chips are nice and thick, almost taste like fritos but very good utensil for shoveling salsa into your mouth. The service was pretty spot on. After that, there really isnt anything special about this place. the salsa was BOOOOORRRRINNNG!!! I am sorry, but I do not trust a mexican restaurant that cannot get salsa right. This was like mashed tomatoes with some salt in it. very bland. the food was also extremly boring and bland. I had the beef taco and the chicken burrito. Really, nothing fancy at all. Just some chicken wrapped up in a tortilla and some beef thrown into a taco shell (no real seasoning on the meats that I could tell) I hardly touched my rice and beans-which obviously with this body i am a carb loving fool, so that is saything something. The only other cool thing is they do have a variety of salsa to go with your meal (the waitress informed me that nearly everyone orders the cheese sauce-thinking to myself why would they do that with like 7 housemade salsas? and tehn I ordered the Molcajete sauce, which is supposed to be HOT. well, i was rubbing it in my eyes just because I could. Not hot) Meh.

The food a is fresh and tasty! It is not like most Tulsa Tex-Mex places which is why I like it. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The drinks are strong and refreshing. I recommend trying the shrimp brochette! It is bacon wrapped shrimp and served with cilantro rice. Pair it with a delimma for the perfect pair!

  • Western D.

The food is okay. I had the brisket tacos which were so salty I couldn't finish them. The guacamole is delicious, the margarita was good. I enjoy the Mi Cocina in Dallas, the one here in Tulsa is mediocre. Tulsa has many better tasting Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants that are considerably cheaper. The decor and service is better than the food.

  • Elvis R.

Love everything here. My service when they first opened was a little shaky but now it is rock solid. I love the brisket tacos. Delicious stuff. Lots of different salsas. Guacamole on everything. I have gone with big groups before and noticed no slow down in getting our food. Everyone also loves it. I have never taken anyone who has no loved their experience and wanted to go right back. White queso much better than the yellow queso.

My wife and I just moved to the area from Dallas and was glad to find this place since it is all over the DFW area. We ordered what we usually have, beef tacos, however when it came out it tasted old and nothing like the flavor in Dallas. Service was not that great either. Craving this place again and being far from Dallas, I did decide to give it another try. I did not order the beef taco but I did get something else. Overall, it was better than the first time but still not as good as what I had in Dallas. For an expensive mexican place I expect a little more. I think we will stick to just going the DFW locations.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
