Last week the hubby and I ventured into El Guapo south side. We've been to the downtown location man times and, while we love the roof deck, we figured we would give south Tulsa a try. I'm glad we did. The ambiance is really inviting - a grand, very well done bar area, large comfy booths, lots of space and a great sunroom area. The food even seemed a little better than downtown. We tried the nachos, veggie fajitas and the tostadas. They were all good and the nachos were definitely the stand out dish. I'm a big fan of the south Tulsa El Guapo and plan to make this my go to Mexican whenever I'm down here.

I was a little nervous when I heard that El Guapo's, a fine downtown Tulsa establishment, was coming to south Tulsa. 81st and Harvard isn't Blue Dome so I worried that the new restaurant couldn't compare to the original. Well, it's pretty good. They've built a patio (albeit on the ground floor unlike downtown) and there's a large bar area. The south version isn't as charming as the original, but it's a much needed restaurant and bar in this part of town. I rarely eat there, but the food is always excellent. I typically go with fajitas or enchiladas when I do. My typical fare at this location is chips and queso and frozen margaritas because I'm usually here hanging out with friends or family. It's usually busy but not slammed in the evenings so you can comfortably occupy a table for a few hours if you just want to enjoy the drinks. I highly recommend the frozen margaritas and there are several great flavors to choose from. I usually prefer strawberry, but there is also mango, raspberry, and a few others. My only complaint is that the margaritas are so good that you'll want to keep drinking them (which necessitates more water) and sometimes the water service can be a little slow. That being said, it's always appropriate to tip nicely if you're going to occupy a table and only get drinks! This is a great restaurant and pretty much the only cool place in its neighborhood.

This was my second experience at this location and it was much better than the first. So rather than leave a poor review, I decided to give the establishment another chance and I glad that I did. On my first visit to this location I ordered guacamole as an appetizer but ended up sending it back due to it having so much lime juice that it overwhelmed the avocado and everything else in the dish. For an entrée I chose the cheese enchiladas with a side of refried beans and Spanish rice. The enchiladas were a disappointment in that something was missing and it resulted in them being bland. The refried beans also failed to impress because they tasted as if tell they were poured from a can. This time, however, was much better. I had the Tacos Al Carbon and they were fantastic. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My only complaint was my glass sat empty for so long that I drank the water of two other members of my dining party, thus the reason for a rating of three stars.

El Guapos south was good. It has been a while since I have been to el guapos and had a wet burrito but I was happy to see that they opened one on the south side. Every time my husband and I tried to visit the one downtown it was always packed. We both had wet burritos. My husband had ground beef and I had carne Asada. It was good. We both had dessert but we probably won't order any dessert next time. He had the brownie sundae and the ice cream seemed lower quality and the brownie bits in it were crunchy. All in all the food was good and we will go back but not as frequently because we really like el tequila much better but this was a nice change.

I had lunch here today. I have been to the downtown location many times which I love. We had good service but the food wasn't as good as it usually is. It could be what I ordered or maybe that it's a new location. It was not a bad experience, just not what I am used to at El Guapo's.

Second time here, just as good of salsa and the dollar taco Tuesday is great. How many places can you get full on 8 dollars. That included a beer. Will be back.

The atmosphere here is great! It's a fun, modern take on the traditional cantina. The chips, salsa and queso are 4 stars, but my one complaint is that all the chicken dishes that have shredded chicken use the dark meat mixed in with the white meat. It's just a preference, but I dislike dark meat, so these dishes are unappealing to me.

Although I am super excited about El Guapo venturing out South, they need some work to compete with their older brother Downtown. I realize they are just getting started, but when we walked in, it seemed very disorganized. The decor was great, but it felt like there were too many employees not doing anything. The five greeters were all on their phones, while I was trying to get our name on the list to be seated. We tend to sit at the bar, which would have been pretty quick, but we choose to sit at a table since we had four people, for an hour wait. I did enjoy the text alert when your table was ready, but I could see how this may be an issue for the older crowd. Luckily, they have the best margaritas, which we enjoyed while we waited. The waiting area is a little cramped and could use more chairs. Once seated, our awkward waiter finally tended to our table after about 10 minutes. When taking our orders, he warned my boyfirend's mom about the mole sauce...."HAVE YOU EVER HAD IT??"...." I HAVE TO WARN PEOPLE, BECAUSE IT CAN BE GROSS!" Never in my life, has a waiter been so adamant about a dish. She proceeded to order and our food came rather quick. However, in the time waiting for the food, we were brought two other table's food and almost ate it! Again, they seem a little unprepared. Our food was average. My favorite part are the chips and salsa....and of course the margaritas! At the end of the meal, our wonderful waiter, asked us at least three times if we wanted dessert, with every time a "no thank you". Just very awkward. We made a joke out of the night and laughed the whole time. We had a great dinner, but it was somewhat strange. I prefer the downtown spot. Maybe give El Guapo South a couple months to get their feet wet before you visit.

El Guapo is one of my two favorite Mexican restaurants in Tulsa. Please don't expect an accurate run down of "traditional" vs. "Tex-Mex" vs. whatever - I just like what I like. El Guapo's is just good food plus the fun of random references to The Three Amigos. Ridiculously thorough tequila menu too. Service can be slow. Great place to eat and/or drink.

Came here on a Monday night with a few friends and this place was eerily dead (which could be a good or bad thing)?? Our waiter was attentive and kept the salsa and chips coming. I got the wet burrito with carne asada. It was good, but slightly too salty for my taste. The new location's decor is really cute. The parking lot is slightly scary at night, though. They don't have any lights, so it's pitch black...

Five stars for their tequila selection, three stars for the food. Four stars for the nice environment and friendly employees. Our server was way too aggressive for my taste. Pushing beverages even when I said I was fine. From an owner's perspective he was probably spot on, but from mine he was over selling and I found him annoying. The tequila selection needs a note. There is a page on the main menu showing some flights and some decent tequilas. There is another document or another page, i forget, that shows some great tequilas. Some of them were expensive, but cheaper than I have seen them at other places. I had a chili relleno and taco combination. Admittedly, I had eaten too much cheese and salsa by the time i ordered food and I wasn't that hungry. My friend had the snapper and he thought it was great. I will get the snapper the next time. This place is close to my house so I will be returning. I will try to pay more attention to the food component the next time.

From the minute we stepped into the restaurant and had attitude from the hostess for no other reason I could think of other than someone peed in her cheerios that morning I knew we were in for the long haul of a mediocre dining experience. Got seated way back in the corner in some really cheap and uncomfortable seats. Asked to move and got more attitude from same hostess. It was weird. Server was friendly, but not very knowledgeable about the menu. Had a difficult time answering any questions and I could see the disdain in her eyes that said, "why the hell are you asking me all these questions!" Maybe it was my perception, but it was weird and uncomfortable. The food? Well, nothing to write home about. Very bland and boring for Mexican food. I was disappointed about this place. Pretty bad.

Pros: grilled fish tacos Cons: servic! We discussed it with our waitress and management and were mollified by comps. We'll definitely be back. That's all I'm going to say on the matter.

Dependable service and good food. We like both locations but south is becoming our favorite.

This is a great place that has moved south! They have some of the best queso! I love their chicken quesadilla and their "wet burrito"! The service staff is super sweet and informational! The interior of the restaurant is so unique and festive! Make sure to ask your server about the faces in the wall!

Our first try at El Guapo's. It wasn't all it was supposed to be. The salsa tasted "institutionalized" , the chips were served cold. The entrees were average at best. We had enchiladas, wet burritos, tortilla soup( which was good) and crispy Pacific Ocean fish tacos, these tacos had a unusually strong oder, they were mushy, upon biting into them. Although the jalapeño cole slaw that was in the tacos was good. They should offer this as a side dish, instead of the horrible refried beans. The same over-powering spice used in the salsa was also prevalent in the beans. There are decidedly better Mexican places in the Tulsa area. The service was excellent, the decor was great.

The decor of the new location is very cool, and the service was great. Super quick, very helpful and friendly. However, the food was not so great. My husband's fish tacos were chewy. I got the steak taquitos (never tried them before) and they were not good. Send them back for some chicken tacos, which were good. We probably won't be back at the south location for a while.

I love el guapo's and all their chain restaurants. their food is incredible and environment is always exciting. we tried out the new south location it is so sleek on the inside. my service on the other hand was sadly the worst I've ever experienced. my queso got taken away before i was done, my normally outstanding flautas were not so deliciously filled with wonderfully seasoned steak, the spicy tacos recommended could not be eaten due to our beverages setting empty until we gave up and were ready for the check. next time we will drive downtown. the restaurant was slow and two hours from closing all employees were all huddled by the register chatting. disappointed with our first guapo south experience. #youoweme$3ofcheese

Been to EG's south 2x. Had fajitas first time, don't remember what I had second visit other than it wasn't good. Fajitas were of the cheap grocery store variety. Service is ok. I do like the bar. May stop in for a bev from time to time, but not to eat. I really wanted to like el guapo's, as it is just minutes from my house but unfortunately I can't recommend.

Service was very "meh" but they're in a new location so they deserve time to get the kinks worked out. Food was decent but their house margarita is the bomb. Wow.

Great food and drinks. Service is excellent. The nachos with smoked chicken are great.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
