Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This place made me want to run for the border. I have never had such bland food in my life. We were out at the Cherokee Heritage Center and left right around lunch time. Since Tahlequah was nearby, we decided to find something to eat there. We saw the sign for Chilango's and gave it a try. What a mistake. The manager was very nice. He seated us right away and took our drink order. We looked over the menu and placed our orders. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I had a burrito and taco (both beef) with a chile relleno. The beef was the most tasteless, grey mass I have ever encountered. I can understand not making the food hot and putting hot sauce on the tables (which they did) but not adding any spice at all? Really? The chile relleno was okay. Everything had to be doused in hot sauce, including the salsa that came with the chips. I don't think anything in this restaurant could be called authentic. When we were ready to leave, we were told we had to pay at the window. It took forever. One person was working the register and she seemed to be struggling with the customers. She didn't appear to understand English as well as she should, especially since every person in line was speaking it. I would never go back here. It just wasn't worthy of a second chance.

I have eaten at every Mexican restaurant in the Tahlequah area and this is the best by a wide margin. I judge a Mexican restaurant first by their enchiladas then by rellenos then tamales. I start with cheese enchiladas because they are simple and surprisingly hard to get right these are very good especially with there Verde sauce, it's not spicy but very bright and fresh tasting.. lovely. And then the Rellenos, they are the second best I have ever had in a restaurant another simple dish that is almost always done poorly. Then the top shelf margaritas oh my the well margarita here is too sweet but the top shelf with a little orange juice is so worth the extra cost .. great restaurant. :)

I went last Wednesday for lunch. Got there around noon and the place was busy. We were greeted and seated right away. Service was excellent. To start off the chips and salsa are pretty good. I ordered the lunch portion steak fajitas. The fajitas came out on a regular dinner plate. The food was warm at best. The meat was tough and hard to eat. Rice and beans were okay. A little disappointed as I used to like this place.

The worst mexican food in town. If I want a salt lick, I would lick a salt shaker. I would not feed my dogs their food. It is that bad folks. I end up with food poisoning after that for at least 48 hours. Beware, and stay away.

I absolutely love this restaurant. It is possibly my favorite place ever. In the five years I have eaten here I have never been disappointed. Great food, great prices, super fast service, stout margaritas, and a wonderful, fun staff. It's my favorite place to gather with friends and family and I often take out-of-town company here. My favorite thing to order is Carnitas. Sooo good. Seriously the best I've had anywhere. Their chips and salsa are great and fresh. And there is a waiter named Louise who is fantastic! So, as you can tell, this place is pretty fantastic and really popular with Tahlequians.

Not a bad place to eat in Tahlequah. The food is semi authentic; I would compare it to El Charro's. The service has always been good and the food comes out quick. The chips and salsa are above average. The vegetarian combo is good and my friend always gets the nachos and is never dissapointed.
