I don't think I can hear about this place without laughing, but that's just for personal reasons. Cute little breakfast cafe with great coffee (huge plus) and a huge selection of breakfast foods. A little overwhelming personally, as I'm not really a morning person, and asking me to make more than 2 decisions before 9am is a huge mistake. but I went with an old standard, a regular breakfast platter, and I remember enjoying it just fine. They were pretty busy on a Sunday morning, but we didn't have to wait long at all, which is commendable. They have counter service, which some people are confused by (I have no idea why, but then again I've worked in restaurants for close to ten years), but everyone was very cheery for so early in the morning.

This is a very cute little cafe with a cozy and friendly atmosphere. The staff is extremely helpful and gracious, and everything we ordered was very good. (The Belgian waffle was not much above average, but was still entirely consumed.) The seasonal fresh fruit was very good, and the bacon was a must-have. Maybe split a pancake meal if you're not too hungry though - the portions are pretty big. Overall, definitely a place to check out.

Had the lemon cake and the chicken strip meal. The chicken was tender and well seasoned the gravy was wonderful and the fries were crunchy and soft. The cake was most and tangy just like lemon cake should be.

Come hungry for good food! Had never tried this gem before. The counter staff were super friendly and so were the servers. But the star is the food. We ordered (massive) pancakes, a Belgian waffle, oatmeal with fresh blueberries and pecans (.75 extra each) and a side of scrambled eggs and bacon. For drinks we had orange juice and coffee. The coffee and juice were great. The bacon tasted like applewood smoked and was cooked to perfect crispness. I'm a bit of an oatmeal connoisseur and the texture of mine was perfect. I had them add blueberries and pecans and the blueberries were sweet and fresh! Everything else was very good. We will come here again!

Its definitley a good Cafe. Pretty tasty lunches. Everytime I have been I have gotten the Bacon Burger. Very juicy burger on good bread. Their pastries look awesome. I like the lemonade too.

Very good! Omelets are nice and big and they let you make your own without the nickel-and-diming you for extra ingredients beyond 3 that other restaurants do. Big chunks of ham, sauteed peppers/onions in my Denver/Western omelet, wife had a bacon/cheese omelet and it had nicely done chunks of bacon. Hash browns were a bit overdone/dry, though. Biscuits are old-fashioned and good, and wife said the white toast was good and toasted just right (it's surprising how little some places toast their bread, it's just basically warm). Coffee is from Java Dave's and is good, of course. Cinnamon roll was huge and pretty good - quite cinnamon-y, German chocolate cake was good, but wife reports not enough frosting. Nice neighborhood diner-type place.

This lovely little place is just around the corner from me, so I visit with some regularity. My kiddos love going here for breakfast, and I love popping in for lunch. We often get pancakes, eggs and ham, and we're able to laugh and talk, enjoy the morning as it's neither rushed nor terribly busy. They have a great coffee selection and the owner is as sweet as can be. This is a wonderful family spot, but I've also been known to come by solo, sip my cup of joe and relax. I love this cafe.

Love this place!!! Their desserts are the best! Sometimes if you don't time it just right at lunch time there is nowhere to sit but from a business perspective I guess that's not a bad thing.

I'm awarding merits on this place being conveniently located and locally owned and operated. I'm cutting some slack because they've opened a shop downtown and may be spread a little thin at the moment. I'm also thinking maybe I caught it at an off time, maybe I was getting the last dregs of the fixins, late on a Friday. Maybe I should try again for breakfast. After a little shopping at Green Bambino, I came by to check grab a quick bite to eat. I've cut way back on the carbs, so a sandwich is a treat and I get pretty pumped about warm, soft bread surrounding juicy slices of fresh meat. Well, that just wasn't in the cards for me, at least not at 3P on a Friday. The wheat bread was a mini loaf, maybe a sub, but whatever it was, it was so dry I could hardly eat it. I pulled off the top half, but that made it awkward to eat. But pulling off the bread hat also exposed the ham to my eyes, and thus to my childhood memories of lunchmeat. It looked like a fat baby had literally peeled back the bright yellow plastic on a Oscar Meyer clamshell, and pulled out a slab of processed ham layers. The ham had no discernable flavor except for a bit of a sodium brine. Why not serve thinly sliced folds of Boar's Head ham? Black Forrest? Honey cured? Nope. Just plain old rounded corners, the pork equivalent of a stack of Chili's coasters. Blurg. I probably won't be back for breakfast, but I couldn't bring myself to take it all the way down to a two, when I probably should have asked for my money back. But I'm feeling hospitable.

My first time to visit Shartel Cafe, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant as well as friendly staff. I ordered the chicken caesar salad, it arrived in a timely manner (important for lunch) and it tasted great. But, and there is a but, the size of the salad was a bit on the small side (think pre-dinner salad) for a stand alone entree offered salad. I'll go back and try something else.

We came here for breakfast while in OKC. The french toast was so good and we loved the atmosphere. Everyone was incredibly friendly, taking to our baby and always smiling. There were numerous regulars in there as well and you could tell they like to build a relationship with their customers. We will definitely come back again next time we are in OKC.

Decent food in an odd atmosphere. The first thing to note is that it's order-at-the-counter, which I didn't expect (but which I can live with). That's not immediately obvious, so we almost seated ourselves before realizing what was up. The area where you order is all the way at the back, so you have to walk through the entire seating area to reach it. They offer a variety of pastries and diner style breakfasts. Oddly, on New Year's Day, they had about eleven people working. The staff outnumbered the customers. And not one of them appeared to be older than nineteen. It left me with the impression that this was some sort of school project run by the high school next door. The decor is what you might find in your aunt's house, if your aunt didn't have much taste, but wanted to make things "nice." Lots of posters of coffee and knick-knacks, the kind of decor you might find for sale at Wal-Mart or Ross. My biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs were fine. I imagine the gravy comes out of a jar, as it tastes exactly the same as the gravy I've had at many other cheap diners. The biscuits were very good. The coffee was straight up awful, which is funny because they bill themselves as "Neighborhood Eatery-Bakery-Coffee-Catering." No amount of doctoring with flavorings or sweeteners would save this coffee. To compare, the coffee at any 7-Eleven or Love's Country Store would be better than this. I threw it away and went somewhere else after breakfast. One of the girls working the counter did provide some laughs, as she didn't manage to pronounce a single customer's name right in the time we were there. When the food is ready, she and two or three other people swarm out from behind the counter, carrying the food in their hands (apparently , they don't own or use a tray, hence the need for four people to carry eight dishes), and this girl calls out the name until one of the tables holds up their hands. I got the feeling that the staff made her call out the names because they thought it was funny to hear how she mangled them, but perhaps she's the only person bold enough to actually call out a name--many of the staff seemed particularly young and timid. I have a name that is hard for some people to pronounce (she called me something like "Anne-guh-ness"), but she managed to fumble some easy ones, too. What was even funnier is that she actually got into an argument with one customer about the way her name was pronounced. Which is, of course, an argument you will always lose. Would I go back? Not if anything else was open.

The coffee here is great!!! However, do not expect to find a very "hearty" breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was really bland. The hashbrowns were burned on top, not cooked on the bottom. I would come back for coffee and associated snacks.

Good food! A cute little café with a very kind staff. Their breakfast and lunch is equally great, I'd say. I love the chicken focaccia sandwich, and they always have fresh baked sweets. (GREAT coffee, too)

This was my first time at this restaurant. Excellent! The staff alone was so friendly and helpful! They have a couple of options on ice tea flavors. There was quite the selection of fresh desserts too! I want to go back for breakfast!

Waited 20 minutes for a walk in to go order. Paid at 1:25. Restaurant wasn't even 1/4 full as it was way past lunch hour. Received food at 1:45, after inquiring twice. Nobody even apologized or tried to explain it. Central OKC has a lot of lunch competition... But I think the fact that the neighborhood people have supported this restaurant so well is lost on the workers there with no people skills. The teenagers who don't care will drive away your customers. And I have no idea what happened between my order and the several cooks in back to make me wait that long.

Shartel Cafe is no longer a "healthy" place to eat but good "down home" cooking loaded with fat and carbs. But you can find the same thing, but better, at Jimmy's Egg or Classen Grill. The coffee was very good and so was the wait staff. I had to send the eggs back as they were undercooked and when they were returned they were overlooked. The cook acted very unhappy when I sent them back. I just don't like the whites to look like clear jelly. I also didn't like the C&W music playing loudly while I was eating breakfast. For the right person who enjoys Wonder bread and Jimmy Dean sausage, you've found a terrific place!

Went out on a limb in trying this place and it was a mistake. Wasn't very clean, service wasn't great, and the food was nothing that I couldn't have made for myself at home. Because they said it would take 30 minutes for our food to be ready we got a mixed berry muffin. I was starving but it had such a weird taste that I couldn't eat it. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with the eggs over medium - they came hard fried. The cheese on it was that cheap American cheese that you buy from the super market in the plastic wrap.
