Ate here once before a Thunder game and have made it my official pregame place to eat. Great and speedy service on gamenights. The fajitas are stellar and the half moon is enough to feed two. I also recommend trying the ice cream nachos. One of my favorite things is that they serve queso for free unlike most Mexican restaurants. Give it a try!

I wasn't too sure about this little Mexican cafe from the outside. Once I was inside, I knew this was a good find. The ambiance was great and the food was good. We went in for lunch. They start you would with chip, salsa, and hot cheese dip. The lunch combinations are reasonable and have plenty of food. We will be going back.

The salsa is great, the service is friendly and efficient, and the entrees are tasty and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the fish tacos. Being a bit more veg*n friendly would get them the fifth star.

I have been coming here for 13 years and it is STILL my favorite place for fajitas in OKC..or anywhere in Oklahoma for that matter. Service is good, beer is served in a frosty mug and the food doesn't get any better. My only complaint would be to bring back the old mexican potatoes. The new ones just dont do justice...oh Cindy...bring back the old potatoes. I LOVE LA LUNA!!

La Luna will seriously make you wanna slap your mama. It's one of the better Mexican places in OKC. They used to have these great potato's sadly they changed the recipe and now they aren't so great, but the food is still good. Highlights being the salsa and chips and they have some good lunch specials, try the moonlight burrito for a nice lunch. I actually like the one downtown the best, but they also have a location in Norman on campus corner. Good stuff.

Really great fresh tasting grub here. Went here after a business meeting during lunch. To start the chips, salsa, and queso were great. The chips were thick and not stale, the queso was melty and not thin as water, and the salsa (which was my fav) tasted like it had just been made fresh from the garden, and there wasn't that annoying burn you get from alot of other salsa's, honestly it tasted more like pico but diced more finely. for my entree i had my standby a chimichanga with shredded beef, and my gf had the fried tacos, which is something we hadn't seen since Pesado's closed. the meat was tender, and tasted great, the rice with the platter was great as well, it seemed more like fried rice than your typical mexican fare. Also the place was well layed out and airy, something we werent expecting when we walked in until we made our way down the hall way to the main dining area. Over all I would go back here many many times and it will be my mexican digs when I'm on the north side of town.

Came to La Luna this evening after the realization that Diego's on 23rd was closed for renovations. I had been to the La Luna in Norman a long time ago but never this one and I had a great dinner! Their queso is average but I loved their fresh chunky salsa. The two mixed together turned into quite the concoction! For dinner, I ordered the "moonlite portion" of green chile enchiladas with Mexican potatoes and their vegetarian steamed beans. The moonlite portion consisted of one enchilada instead of (I'm assuming) two and it was STILL too much food! But everything was delicious and the service was incredibly friendly and attentive. This is definitely one of my new favorite places for Mexican food and I will definitely be back!

If I could give this place a zero star I would our food was cold the nachos are just tortillas chips with shredded cheese melted on they couldn't even get the drinks right and I'm pretty sure that the Jews in nazi Germany received more respect and service than we did. In other words you can go to this place if you like to get ripped off.

I've always liked La Luna. I think they have some of the best flour tortillas in town. I went for lunch today, and ordered the lunch beef fajitas with a side of sour cream. They were fantastic! The beef was tender and flavorful, and the peppers and onions were carmelized perfectly. Also, the portion was HUGE. I definitely had to get a togo box. Our server was quick, especially for a full dining room during the lunch rush. Our water glasses werw never empty, and she was quick with everything we needed. I wish I had asked her name so I could compliment her in this review. Anyway, I've never been disappointed with a meal at La Luna.

I had a great dinner here because I had great company, but aside from that I was very turned off. Service was not to par by any means: Strike 1: I asked the waitress about all the non-chicken dishes that were popular, however, she continued to name chicken dishes. Strike 2: Then I asked if there was someone who worked here that I could discuss the non-chicken dishes with, so she brought over her manager. I told him I didn't want chicken and asked him what he preferred between the carne and pork dish (realizing that they may not be comparable, but if he had to choose one -- which will it be?) He said that he prefers the chicken dish. Strike 3: Then I asked if the pork was like carnitas style and he said, "Carnitas, I don't know what that means, but the chicken is good." You are claiming to cook and sell Mexican food and then you fail to know what Carnitas is -- Turn Off! So anyways, I ordered their popular chicken dish which I wasn't in the mood for. The food wasn't Mexican -- False Advertising!!

I drive past this place all the time, so the day finally came that I was asked for a lunch suggestion and remember to try it. I was not disappointed. The salsa was wonderfully fresh, and the chips and tortillas came out hot and tasty. I would submit that a table of three adult men probably merit more than two flour and two corn torillas in a warmer, but I also understand trying to eliminate waste. I had the Pork Chile Verde, and it popped with just enough heat. I went with the borracho(sp?) beans rather than refried, and was rewarded with abundant flavor without the heaviness of refried beans. As a side note, the borracho beans are vegetarian-safe. All in all, La Luna is definitely my new downtown Mexican pick.

Relaxed atmosphere, tasty food, polite & efficient service makes La Luna the perfect pre-Thunder game dining choice.

This is one of the best Mexican food restaurants in OKC. I had the enchiladas with spinach. It was really tasty and perfectly seasoned. For once I was not dying of salt-catatonia! The sides were excellent as well. Simple sauteed potatoes and peppers and yummy beans. I ate the whole plate! Many of their menu options include a lighter portion for those who don't eat for a family of four. I highly recommend this place!

Good place to eat! Parking is sometimes a pain when roads are blocked and there are events happening downtown.

The food is pretty decent. It seems my wife and I both agree that their chicken is pretty much the greatest thing ever. I'm talking 5-star mouth watering drool-fest quality yum-factor. Sadly their chips are a bit thicker than I like, and were slightly over-cooked. Edible, and not bad, but not as good most other chips and queso serving places. Also sadly, while IBC rootbeer is good, it's depressing that the ONLY root beer they carry comes in bottle form. Sad because for the same (I assume, since there is no listed price on the menu) price ($2) you get a single bottle of root beer instead of a bottomless cup of all the sugar-water you want. While it does list this (bottle only) on the menu, we hadn't actually read the menu yet, having only just been seated. My wife asked "do you have root beer?" The server said "yes." Both being ex-waiters, its' common courtesy to mention that you're getting a single bottle, not a bottomless soda. Common courtesy considering 99% of the restaurants I've eaten at provides endless soda/tea. Anyway, the queso was good. I wasn't a fan of the salsa, but I'm not a big salsa guy. My wife and daughter liked it well enough. The tortilla's were soft and amazing. The tomatoes tasted ripe, the lettuce was crisp, the sour cream unspoiled, and my wife seemed to enjoy both her and my guacamole. She had the chicken quesadila, I had the chicken taquito's. I found my taquitos to be similarly overcooked like the chips, but still very tasty. I sampled my wife's quesadilla's and nearly bit her hand off it in an attempt to get another bite. Our server was not great. Perhaps busy? I don't know. Didn't seem overly busy, but we did overhear some complicated "allergies and vegetarian" orders being made by the table next to us, so maybe that explains it. Anyway, our server failed to mention the root beer would be a single bottle and done, wasn't very engaging with our ordering/questions, didn't bring my wife a water with her root beer, failed to bring a water for my wife when she asked for one until after we had finished off all of my water, and left my CC in the ticket-tray so long that another server came over and collected it to take our payment for us. Food was satisfying, but whoever was running the fryers needs to start pulling food a little faster as to not overcook things. I also hope you have a better experience with your server if you go. I do recommend it. Especially if you want some yummy chicken.

The food was horrible and not sure what it was it had a hint of spoiled taste to me and the ingredients must not be quality. because the set up was even sub par....cheap cheese. will not be goimg back and wished I would have complained and not wasted 25.00 for nothing. Training a new waitress that was clearly not ready to solo also

This place is a small hole in the wall that at first I didn't expect to be really good based on the reviews I read, but this is my new favorite tex mex place in OKC now! Service was very helpful and attentive and the street tacos were all that I hoped for. Will recommend to anyone who likes Mexican food!

well to start off, the salsa is watery and tastes like nothing more than tomatoes with some jalapeño juice, unless you feel like buying the "top shelf salsa" whatever the that means. Your waiters vanish for prolonged periods of time. The tamales are the worst tamales I've ever had anywhere in my life, EVER. IMHO My dinning partner had their Ocean Tacos and were very much less than impressed. They were highly seasoned in an attempt to mask second rate ingredients. Prices are high for the quality and on a good note, nice enclosed patio. And friendly if not well informed staff.

The only thing that kept me from walking out of this place was the happy hour. The price of the food does not reflect the environment or the food quality.

Its just okay. Its not 5 star Mexican cuisine and its not Taco Bell either. I would go again, but its not a place I would seek out unless I happened to be in the neighborhood. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare, so unless you have to eat downtown, there are other more convenient options just a short drive.

Am I dreaming or did someone really give this place 5 stars? Can someone please wake everyone else up and let them know that this place is terrible? I cannot tell you the number of times that I have had conversations with (regular) people who suggested La Luna. Wow! I feel like I might be on one of those episodes of the twilight zone where everyone else sees a different world, and I end up going nuts. Just the other day, I'm having a conversation with a colleague about restaurants and they suggested this place. I was like, "I have never had a good meal there", and they were going "Really?" Um, Yeah! I'm not crazy, this place is terrible. And, I do not know how many times that I've been asked to join large business parties for lunch at La Luna. I've eaten here many many times over the years. Here are some things I hated: Chips & Salsa - average at best Queso - not touching it Enchilada Dinner - both chicken, the chicken was "definitely" out of a can with some added spices, beans just OK, and rice (who cares). Only $10.75 for this terrible meal + plus drink price. Fajitas - overcooked meat with no seasoning, over onions and peppers, and old terrible guacamole, with beans and rice. Only $16.95 for this terrible meal + plus drink price. Tacos - these were just OK, I normally do not order Tacos anywhere, but I already knew that the other food is terrible. I've looked around at many other peoples plate while I'm eating here, are you kidding me? Anyone who likes this place is either not big on Mexican food or maybe had a few beers. Someone pinch me, because this place blows!

Service was poor and slow. Ran out of drinks, chips and salsa on our table. Several customers walked out, including us, due to one of the worst restaurant service. Think twice before dining here

Holla! I mean hola. So good. I love this little place, always have. The only thing I can tell is different about their lunch specials is they are cheaper. I can't tell that the portions are actually smaller. Their chips and queso are some of my favorite in town, love the Mexican potatoes, and the pollo verde is outstanding. This is such a fun place to go before a Thunder game, and I love the atmosphere down here lately. The tortillas are made from butter and happiness, and the quesadillas are outstanding. I also really love to go and split fajitas, mostly because that means I can eat more chips, queso and tortillas. Parking is plentiful for this part of town in the adjacent lot.

I was there in a large group and the place was hopping busy at 1PM on a weekday. We were served quite fas just the same. I did not like the large trough of salsa they dipped from just sitting in a corner uncovered. I suspected there was a hair in mine but it might have actually just been a thread from a pepper. The food was was better that Poblano Grill but not much. I always order chili rellenos the on my first visit to a mexican restaurant. They were probably about a 6.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. They were not as seasoned as I would have liked but it I have had worse. I suspect it would be more enjoyable in the evening. If I were in the area again I would go to Abuelo's instead.

Great service. Good food and drinks. The only disappointment was the time limit I had on my parking spot because they were selling them for a Thunder game.

Well if this is The Best Messican place in OKC, then I just had my first and last Messican meal here. Even my 11 year old didn't like it and he'll eat just about anything. The "Hot Cheese", nee queso, was an odd color of artificial yellow, it had a green hint to it. Also as it cooled it never solidified, it was the same runny/watery consistency as it was hot or cold. Yickes! My son had a bean and cheese burrito. The tortilla was a light green, maybe the lights were funky??? Parents will recognize the "beans" as being similar to runny baby "Stuff." Bland too. I had the beef enchiladas, wow, Taco Bell has more flavor. I wasn't expecting a hot spicy taste, but some flavor. Man these are bland. Same runny beans in the side. Old El Paso enchilada sauce has more character. But wait, I'm not done yet. I had a margarita. It was served in a clear plastic to-go cup and the drink was,well...clear, like the cup. Hummm....Rose's, anyone, anyone, Bueller? The pico de gallo was okay, but there were not any jalapenos in it. Sorry OKC, this ain't it. Next time, 1492.

I am a big fan of this place. Food is really good. i personally love the fajitas! Staff is usually very friendly. The only negative to this place is sometimes it is a little warm in the building. They have great margaritas...

You know what? This is one of those places where I always leave asking myself, "why don't I eat here more often?" The chips are fantastic, the queso is the perfect bit of spicy, and they're always so nice. We always eat dinner here before basketball games or events at whatever the large stadium is named right now. This time, we had dinner before the Batman Arena Tour. Which, on a side note, was pretty dang cool. I'm a beef fajita guy. Sure the full order is a bit pricy, but it'll fill two people easily. The onions are caramelized perfectly and the beef has a bit of a sweet taste to them, almost a teriyaki taste. I'm not sure of the marinade, but I'd drink the stuff if they gave me a bottle. Order you a draft Mexican beer with the works. You know, lime and salt ALL OVER a HUGE glass, so good. I think a big beer like that makes the food taste better, or at least has me enjoying the food more. :)

La Luna is another one of those throwback Norman-era college restaurants. We used to visit their campus corner location regularly, albeit for swirls and other adult beverages - not necessarily the food. Alas, the Norman location is no more, but I think it's still safe to approach the downtown OKC location in much the same way. I tend to be fairly picky about my Mexican food, and as such - OKC has gotten quite a reputation for having just mediocre Mexican food to offer (with a few exceptions - head to SW 29th if you want some real-deal authentic Mexican). La Luna is not one of those exceptions, I've never been overly impressed by the flavors of the food, but I still enjoy myself every time we're there. The atmosphere is fun, the location is great, the drinks are cold, and the food is alright too - I just don't foresee it winning any James Beard awards and/or Michelin stars anytime in the near future. But, the service is great, the food comes out extremely fast, the chips and salsa are bottomless - so as I said, there's plenty to like about this local family owned restaurant. If you're looking for a decent Mexican restaurant, especially for a quick and cheap lunch special, I'd certainly recommend La Luna over any of the other Mexican choices in the downtown / Bricktown area, but then again, that's not really saying much. Overall Grade: B-

  • Richard C.

I don't understand why it's crowded, except it serves the downtown crowd for Mexican food without other options. The service is very sub-par. Overworked staff- no refill on drinks, chips, salsa, and it took quite a while for food to come out, especially given its the lunch hour. Not sure why it's closing in April, because business seems really good. The chips/salsa and queso are pretty good, but so are many other Mexican food places. The fish tacos lacked flavor, as did the rice. For the price, not worth it. Won't be back.

La Luna is one of those places I've seen and passed by tons of times, but for some reason I always thought it was closed down. Well I was definitely wrong and had I looked on Yelp, I would've known better! La Luna is actually a very large restaurant with three dining areas and for lunch on a week day, it was very busy. The atmosphere is a very traditional Mexican theme with lots to look at on the walls. I was with a large group of ladies from work and they were very accommodating for us. We were seated almost immediately despite how full the restaurant was. Our server was awesome! She regularly checked in on us and made sure we were well taken care of. I ordered the spinach enchilada lunch special and was happy with it. I opted for the borracho beans as opposed to the refried beans and they were very good. I also enjoyed the rice. I liked the dish, but will likely order something else next time I dine here. That being said, I would certainly return and would recommend La Luna as a great Mexican restaurant in the area. Also, I was really glad to see that their queso is complimentary which is becoming very uncommon.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
