Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Stopped for an early dinner to avoid traffic while passing thru on our home to GA. They make their own pasta. Sounded great. Tasted not so great. Hubby had the spaghetti and sausage. Noodles were super thick and the sauce was a can of tomatoes w some seasoning. I had manicotti. It came out as one huge wrapped noodle. The noodle was way too think and the filling way too thin. Same sauce as my husbands. Save ur money on this place and skip it.

I have been to Flip's several times. Depending on what you order, the food is good to adequate. Their Italian Nachos are delicious. The antipasto plate is varied and good. They have a fantastic patio for enjoying with your friends. All of that being said, I could only give them two stars due to the horrible service our group received at my last visit. The service has always been slow. The last time, the waitress wouldn't acknowledge our table, didn't serve us all three courses that were supposed to come with our orders. She spilled water on us, and then just threw a folded tablecloth on the table and didn't actually spread it over the table. I understand everyone has a bad night. However; when the manager came by the table after flagging her down to refill our waters, she admitted to being the manager when we asked then she ran off. I noticed that a dozen of their reviews have been deemed "not recommended", and this one will probably be as well. I just wanted to give an honest assessment. Bottom line-- Adequate Italian, Bad Service

Food is a negative 1 star and service is great thus the 2 stars. Got a salad and it was like a child put it together with no thought on chopping size or flavors. The pizza, omg. worst worst worst pizza i have ever had. Its worse than the worst frozen pizza. i would eat a Tony's over this. Its $15 for a cracker pizza. not only that, it is smothered with cheap cheese and water logged olives. It was also COLD! So the massive amount of plastic cheese was just a huge chunk of grossness. It was heinous. Just awful. AWFUL!!!!! AHH it was AWFUL!!!!!! My god. The only redeeming quality about this place is the cute little building and good service. Do not eat here. DO NOT! just drink. I didn't order pasta here because years ago i went and it was the WORST pasta I had ever had. Even Olive Garden beat them on that, and i hate Olive Garden. So, nothing has changed. I would say get a cheese plate, but last time I saw a cheese plate (quite a few years ago) it was cubed, probably straight from a party tray from Sam's. I'll make a suggestion for them. Redo the menu. Have a smaller menu and focus on making them awesome. You don't need 10 salads and 15 appetizers or 10 shitty pizzas.

In a city that does not have very good Italian options, Flip's does well. They do well because of their great location and service. Flip's is good place to go for reasons other than their food. I rate their food a 2, but their service, outdoor patio and late night options are rated a 4. I do not care for their food very much and most of the dishes I have had have been very bland and nothing special. I am a big fan of their marinara sauce though. When I dine here I pour their marinara on whatever I order and it makes everything better. I have dined at flips at least 10 times and I have not really enjoyed their food any of the times I have been there. I do always have a great time on their outdoor patio and the fact that they serve food until 1AM is a huge plus especially in Oklahoma City where late night dining is almost non-existant. They also have $.99 mimosas for brunch, which is another good reason to come here and put up with average food. TIP: Their food tastes better the closer it gets to 1AM. If you are going to Flip's to find great food then you will be disappointed. If you are going to Flip's to have drinks with your friends (preferably on the patio) and you happen to eat there without high expectations you will not be disappointed. Just make sure you have a few drinks first and then order food.

Yep.. still hits the spot! I've been to Italy and I can honestly say this food is comparable in so many ways. Italian Nachos, you can't go wrong! Marinara is the best, I have NEVER had anything better. Try the chicken lasagna with the marinara.. sooo GOOD! Oh and the selection of wine and beer is incredible!

Haven't been here in years but would have given it 4 stars 10 years ago. Present day Flip's is horrible. I don't know if they have new owners or just that the owner's haven't eaten their own food lately but it needs help. Met clients for dinner and I was embarrassed. We all had a different dish and they were all horrible. Soggy Caesar salad. Horrible things they called Italian nachos. Lasagna (chicken) bland bland bland. Our clients had spaghetti they didn't hardly taste. Been to Italy. This isn't even close. My worst meal there was 100 times better.

This place was the best! They had great service and we sat at a small table by the front window so we had a great view! We got calamari which wasn't the best I have ever had but it was still good. The calamari was served with their Diablo sauce so it was a spicy marinara and great! Then I got the tortellini and it was the absolute best tortellini I have EVER had. It came in a Marsala cream sauce. It was sweet but savory and fantastic and just awesome! My boyfriend got the Beef Tenderloin Free Form Lasagna which comes in a white sauce and it was fabulous as well. The meat was tender and the mushrooms were great! We also had peanutbutter pie for dessert that came with ice cream and was great! I had Crabbie's Ginger Beer and a glass of Argentina Cabernet and both were very very good. I wish I could have a million of those Ginger beers. So good! All in all this was one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to! Louder atmosphere but great for a date night.

Flip's is a long-time OKC institution. For my family, it's always been a place to meet up with all my cousins and the first place we always go when my brother comes home for a visit. It has some things I love, and some things I don't love. I love Flip's for the following reasons, in no particular order: Outdoor patio on summer nights, pasta chips, Peroni, cheese plate, bruschetta, specials that come with a soup and salad course, the book of wines they sell by the bottle, the constantly changing art, the full bar and bartenders who know what they're doing, the red and white checkered table cloths, the pizza, the chicken lasagna, and all the memories I've made here over the years with friends and family and boyfriends and business partners. I do not love Flips when it gets really loud. Usually, when it does get that loud, it has to do with the fact that a big group of people are all talking over each other, competing for attention and the last few decibels to be had. The other night, there was a table full of women arguing which season of the Bachelor was the best, which apparently is a really heated topic. But, you don't come to Flip's for the peace and quiet. In case you're wondering, after much ado, Season 2 seemed to be the victor. I couldn't help but overhear. :)

Great wine selection at a good price. Always good service and a nice place to have a drink outside. They have tiki torches to stop up the Mosquitos. Looking for a good drink spot? Head here.

I've noticed some mixed reviews of Flips and I think it's important to note right up front that for me, Flips is 4 stars when I order the Chicken Parmesan. I'm going to put it out there that Flips can be hit or miss. For example, I recently went to Flips and deviated from my usual, ordering the bruschetta salad. It was edible, but not something I would choose to try again. I am a creature of habit and I am also a little superstitious, so when I break from usual habits I'm not surprised when I'm punished with disappointment for having done so. That is to say, I am taking full responsibility here for foregoing my standard plate and ordering the bruschetta salad over the Chicken Parm. You just can't eff with Flips Chicken Parmesan. That buttery linguine pairs so well with the crunchy, chewy, slightly tangy breaded and cheesy chicken. Do yourself a favor and order it already...but stay away from the bruschetta salad. You've been warned.

After four years in Italy, I found the food excellent and the staff very knowledgable on menu items and preparation. The Fruits of the Sea had a very light, savory sauce with fresh seafood. Will plan several more trips since I spotted quite a few entries I need to try.

The reviews seem to be either people loving Flip's or hating it. The other night my Husband and I discovered that we fell into the 'Loved It' group. We were looking for an Italian restaurant that we'd not visited before and I suggested Flip's, having driven past it virtually everyday for years. I am so glad that I made the suggestion, we had a fantastic meal. We started out with the Pesto Cream Gnocchi appetizer. It was absolutely delicious. The dumplings were cooked absolutely perfectly and were not tough at all, and they contrasted really well with the heavier cream sauce that they were topped with. Although the appetizer was delicious, we thought, after the fact that we shouldn't have ordered it because our entrees came with so much food. I ordered the Mediterranean Pasta and my Husband ordered the Cheese Tortellini. Both of our meals came first with soup and salad that were served family style. They were both very good, but we ate sparingly because we'd already had the appetizer and still had our entrees. My Mediterranean Pasta was absolutely delicious. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were not overdone or tough in the slightest. The vegetables accompanying it were also delicious and complemented each other well. Despite how delicious mine was, my Husband's Cheese Tortellini is what really stole the show. I would never order something that heavy myself, but to nibble on his it was perfect. It had the most amazing flavor. It was very rich, but absolutely incredible. We had no room for dessert after that meal, so we got our check. I had a glass of wine, he had two beers, we had our entrees and our appetizers and the bill was about half of what we were expecting it to be. We found the pricing very fair, particularly considering the excellent quality of the food. My only major complaint had to do with our table. We were seated at a two top right by the restroom. I hate sitting by the restroom; for some reason it grosses me out. In addition, we had people walking past us all night or hovering around our table in line for the restroom because they're only single stalls. Also, the doors are swinging doors so anytime someone goes in or out it makes a loud bang. It got a little distracting. The other slight complaint we had was that our service was slow. We always had food in front of us, but we waited forever for the check or drink refills. It's because she was extremely busy; I could see her the whole time. To me, it seemed like a failure on the part of the management to help compensate when the servers were bogged down. It was very evident that all of the servers were busy and I think they could have used more staff or more involved managers to help out. The quality of the meal deserves five stars, but I have to go with four because of the inattentive management and bogged down staff.

Two words: Scotty, tortellini. Scotty is a bartender , wait.. An awesome bartender! And tortellini is.. Well awesome inside a noodle!

Thank god I shotgunned a Horny Toad beforehand or I wouldn't have been able to stomach this food. It was so bad. I had a salad which was just a handful of romaine lettuce. My pesto gnocchi entree tasted like something Chef Boyardee would have canned. It was mixed in with bunches of pesto-sogged romaine (why?). It was so terrible it made me yearn for the authentic and artisanal cuisine of Olive Garden. Maybe I should just be sticking with meat, barbeque, and burgers when I come back home.

Very good I enjoyed the wine food and service was great would visit again when in OKC
(4)Adam B.
I have always enjoyed the atmosphere at Flip's and most often the food is fine too. I think they suffer a bit from trying to offer too many dishes but what they get right they do well. Italian nachos, grill cheese, and are pretty much always above par. I like this place more now that oil is cheap because it has lightened the crowd of 20 somethings that "want to fit in." If I had to recommend one restaurant to someone in OKC this likely wouldn't be the place but if someone wants to go, I'll likely not dissuade them either. It's Flip's, we live in OKC, we get it, and we love the place. Simple as that. I will applaud the patio, bar staff, and overall ambiance of the joint. And, I'm sure to return. Ciao!
(3)Chris D.
Classic OKC place, classic Prejudiced because I used to work here...but that was in the 80's and who's still here? That's right..Flip's Recently moved back and glad one of my favorite places on Earth is still going strong Food is exactly what you order drinks/beer/wine list are all excellent varied and wide ranging EXCEPT ..could you please dedicate some space somewhere for Foster's in the oil can again? hehe great ambiance, interesting people, great art...... salads...mmmmm pasta chips..oh, yes ,please marinara sauce..which is actually harder than people think..excellent pizzas..yumm specials..always changing, always interesting love it here..
(5)Chuck L.
Always enjoy having the smoking Italian Mac and cheese. I'm pretty certain the pasta is made in house and all the sauces taste great!

Just in town to visit and found Flips for late dinner. Friendly service, neighborhood feel, good food. We'll be back!
(4)Joey L.
I have only been to Flip's once and that was ages ago--and that was a Friday or Saturday night and shit was jumping off. When I went last--things were a bit more subdued. It was a quiet late afternoon lunch-dinner thing and it was pretty delicious. I got the Muffaletta and the green olive salad and mayo that comes on it, is so fucking good. Nice portions and so on. The place is lovely and you probably know that. Its weird how much this area has grown up in the past ten years. Thanks Aubrey for that! And thanks for the earthquakes--you take the bad you take the Whole Foods, right? Or it could be the other way around. I don't know if Flips lease issues were a resultant of the growth of the area or what--but I am glad they are still around.

The waitress that served us didn't smile once and only provided the bare minimum of service. The food is excellent but the staff need an additude adjustment

The best way to describe Flip's is that it's the type of place that is hip but not trendy. You won't find swarms of young 20-somethings rushing to check in or share their bathroom selfies. Instead, you'll find a bar and restaurant that has a sort of casual coolness that others wish they could emulate. When you walk into Flip's, it has a good feel. The food is a bit on the expensive side, and I haven't eaten most of it because I have the same go-to that everyone has at Flip's: the Italian nachos. Flip's Italian nachos are a giant mound of pasta chips (yes, fried pieces of pasta) covered with cheese, tomatoes, and pepperocinis, served up with a side of marinara. Easily splitable, at only $12, these are the best deal on the menu. The other thing I like about Flip's is that their beers are moderately priced for such a place.

When my husband and I were engaged six years ago, we used to come here all the time! And, when we recently found ourselves back in OKC, we thought we'd go back and revisit this old favorite haunt (despite some mixed reviews on Yelp). Sadly, however, this restaurant wasn't as good as we remembered! I ordered one of the more expensive items on the menu - the seafood risotto - for $21.50. The risotto had a heavy alcohol/wine flavor and it was not cooked all the way through. :( I sent it back and the waitress was a little huffy after that... My husband ordered the chicken parmesan for $17.50 - and it wasn't good either. It was greasy and lacked flavor. Our Calamari appetizer was chewy and not "hot" when it came out...like it had been sitting for a while and slightly over cooked. The other major problem with the restaurant was that there was a loud woman named Jessica at the bar - who apparently worked for the restaurant for 5 years, who was crying and loud and then sassing at a couple of men sitting behind us (at a table near the window). She was clearly drunk and wanted everyone to hear her and pay attention...well, we certainly did, but I was surprised the staff did't ask her to leave. She was just obnoxious and ruined the romantic atmosphere. Bottom line - super pricy, poorly executed food combined with a slightly surly staff, and an obnoxious patron spells disaster for a restaurant we used to love. Flip's, please go back to your roots! Somewhere you've taken a wrong turn, and I'd hate to see it cause your demise.

Absolute worst service ever! My girlfriends and I went to Flip's for a birthday dinner and while the food was amazing, service was definitely lacking. The waitress never talked to us, could not be bothered to refill water glasses, even when asked to, spilled water on us, without apologizing, and did not order our food correctly. To top it off, the manager could not be bothered to come speak to us when we asked to talk to one. We called Deep Fork from Flip's and they gave us a private table for cocktails and dessert. Their waitress was personable and on top of everything. I gave her the tip I would have otherwise given the waitress at Flips.

As you can tell from the reviews, you either love it, or you hate it. Flip's is definitely not the best restaurant you'll ever go to, but it's not the worst. Flip's is purgatory, culinary purgatory. So, rather than try to convince you one way or the other, it's probably best to describe typical scenarios at Flip's and let you make your own decision as to what side of the love/hate battle you will join. You might enjoy Flip's if: You will inevitably be dining with someone that you find rather uninteresting and would love to drown out the monotony of their intellectually uninspiring conversation with the jumbled noise of random strangers' conversations. Conversely, you might NOT enjoy Flip's if: You've had a long week and you would love nothing more than to have a quiet, intimate meal with your significant other. (But then again, if this is your scenario, maybe you should just stay in for dinner tonight, just sayin'). You might enjoy Flip's if: As a child, you lost the majority of the taste buds in your mouth when you accepted your friends' dare to attempt to breathe fire (unsuccessfully, sorry bout that) rendering you unable to effectively determine whether what you are eating is a perfectly seasoned medium-rare rack of lamb, or a Frisbee. Conversely, you might NOT enjoy Flip's if: You are wanting a perfectly executed, five-star, gourmet meal that you just can't find anywhere else. You might enjoy Flip's if: Your favorite part about amusement parks or sporting events is waiting in line. Conversely, you might NOT enjoy Flip's if: You had an older sibling who decided to lock you in a small closet at a young age, and then forgot about letting you out (until an older age) and as a result you have a severe case of claustrophobia. You might enjoy Flip's if: The first thought that comes to mind when you think of authentic Italian is anything from the Chef Boyardee line of products. Conversely, you might NOT enjoy Flip's if: You are Italian. You might enjoy Flip's if: You have a strong aversion to bargain shopping and insist on paying full-price, if not more, at all times. Conversely, you might NOT enjoy Flip's if: You refuse to eat anywhere that does not offer a "value menu". So as you can see, Flip's is rather dependent on the situation. Some people will tend to love it, others will tend to hate it, depending on the situation (and your childhood experiences) of course. This is not a five-star restaurant by any means, nor does it pretend to be. It is a loud, casual atmosphere with decent food that is slightly overpriced, yet offers a place to unwind with a drink or two at the end of the day. Simply put, just don't approach Flip's with unrealistic expectations. Overall Grade: B
(3)Amnon F.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY, This is the worst "Italian" food you will ever have. I travel often, eat out most of the time, this is the worst ever. The Frutti De- Mare was tasteless. No spice, no sauce, just cook and server in water. You can Google it ad find great recopies, or at least get an idea how it should look like, and try to add clams, not so much cheap fish. The Calamari appetizer seems to be cheap cheap stuff, I would not be surprised if it was purchased in bulk from some local place. We exchange dishes within the group, everything tasted the same - tasteless. the service was good, and that was about it. Drive down the street to the wine bar, pay a little more and enjoy your dinner, or hop over the mall on the other side and get a good Pizza at upper crust,
(1)Craig W.
Absolutely a western avenue institution. Always a great time. Food is good for the most part. Chicken Lasagna, gnocchi, Italian nachos, and the pizza are all good, but that's not why most people come here. It's the vibe. I think they close 1 or 2 days a year and are open 11am until 2am every other day of the year.

Last night was my first time eating at Flips. I had actually heard a few good reviews from friends, and even from my partner who attended this dinner with me who has lived in OKC all his life. After this experience, my partner was embarrassed that he recommended this restaurant to me. The hostess was nice and seated us right away, and the atmosphere was cozy. My partner ordered the seafood pasta (Frutti de Mare) and I ordered a simple Chicken Parmesan. On the menu it says that these entrées are served as three course meals with soup and garden salad. Upon ordering, my partner and I both asked to sub the garden salad for a caesar and the waitress said sure (we just assumed we'd get a surcharge for the substitution.) The salad was good and served promptly. But after our salad we were given our entrées, so we politely asked the server who brought us our food (wasn't our waitress) where our soup was that was supposed to come with the meal. No big deal, people forget, it wasn't a problem. She went to tell our waitress, and when our waitress came with the soup, she shoved a metal bowl (like you would find in the kitchen) on our table, with one empty bowl (for two of us?), and walked away. I was completely offended. It turns out that when you substitute the house salad for a caesar, you no longer get the soup, but this was only explained to us after the soup was shoved on our table and we had to call our waitress over again to ask what was going on. Both the waitress's attitude and the presentation of the soup were unacceptable. The entrées were disappointing. Although the chicken on my Chicken Parmesan was good, the linguini served under it was dry and hard. My partner's Frutti de Mare was terrible- the seafood in it was adequate, but the "sauce" was like water. It was like eating seafood on a bed of plain noodles. We don't plan on eating here again. I hope that management can train waitstaff to be more communicative with customers, especially when a substitution changes the meal. A simple explanation when the meal was ordered could have prevented the whole ordeal.

Flips is a casual, cozy, can get loud but not always kind of place. I like the feel of a "neighborhood" place. Flips has that. The bar has a nice selection of beer and wine. The barkeeps know their stuff! There is a nice variety of dishes/apps to choose from. The calamari is always good. The salads are too. I like to dress my own and while the standard is to have it tossed for you, "on the side" is an option. I like how they serve you your soup individually at the table. Nice touch! The pasta works as do the meatballs. I've never been disappointed. The staff is always attentive and very nice. You can usually count on Flips!
(4)Tom C.
We dropped in after shopping at Whole Foods tonight. We went in hungry and we came out happy. The place is very cute. The service is excellent. The menu and food were excellent. This will be our go-to Italian place. The Italian Mac and cheese was a winner.

Yep... I'm a fan. Once the clock strikes 10pm in OKC, it becomes somewhat difficult to source a restaurant with a still-open kitchen. Luckily for all of you late-night imbibers and eaters, there's Flip's! I've been to Flip's on two separate occasions now, and the affable staff has always welcomed us with open arms, whether we're looking for a little nook at the bar or a sprawling section for 10+. While the menu is filled with your choice of Italian favorites (think bruschetta, pastas and pizza), it's the wine and craft beer menu that won me over. Seriously, I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of sipping on a Chimay or Duvel for $6.75. $6.75, let me repeat that... UNREAL. The outdoor patio is just about as lovely as it gets in the summer months. If you enjoy ending your night with casual good times in a comfy, easy setting, you've found your 'just one more' bar!
(4)Lyndi Z.
I have been coming to Flip's for as long as I can remember, and many of our family stories start or end at this OKC staple. We all know that their bar, entrees and desserts are worth a trip, but I didn't know about their brunch until recently. They offer the standard lunch menu, but also have a one-page brunch special menu. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict and I had the quiche so we could each eat half (one of the many reasons why we're friends). When we ordered, the waitress let us know that because we got entrees, we could each order up to 4 mimosas for only .99 each. What more could you ask for on a Sunday Funday? The food was great, I am glad I got to try both options along with the breakfast potatoes. We had another friend join us halfway through, and then decided to move to the patio to enjoy our drinks. Some places roll their eyes at the extra work that entails (really though, is it that much?) but our waitress was happy to oblige and took great care of us after the move. When she brought our checks, I had to do a double take: brunch, 4 mimosas and tip for right at $20. Flip's for the brunch win!
(4)Dustin R.
Bring your wallet! Holy crap was this pricey. It was also SO loud. I had to yell at my date...I should have yelled at her for suggesting this place. They said their pizza was thin crust and they aren't kidding. It was like pizza nachos. Tasty but not very big or filling. Total cost for a personal nacho..er pizza, manicotti with soup and salad and glass of wine and water. $50
(3)Carly N.
I was really glad to have found this place late one night when every other restaurant was closed. It was a beautiful night so my friend and I sat on the patio. I loved their patio. Usually, service isn't as great when I sit outside since the waiters tend to forget they have customers out there but our waitress at Flip's was amazing. I was driving so I couldn't get anything off the alcohol menu. I noticed prices were fairly reasonable for the wine. I ordered the Italian sausage sandwich. Can't say I was satisfied with it. The sausage was chewy and hard to break apart. The pasta chips were incredibly hard. I'm definitely willing to come back another night to give their other entrees and wine list a try.
(3)Sabrina G.
Nice restaurant. Good place to eat with a group. Seems a bit loud among the tables so not great date night type atmosphere. Great service, not a long wait and has a large bar selection and it's the typical Italian selection plus some delicious Mediterranean dishes.
(4)Kyle D.
Flips was amazing! You have to get the Italian Nachos! They are GREAT! And then my my wife and I split the Chicken Lasagna and we had them do half marinara and half Alfredo on top! It was good! But you can totally eat the nachos as a meal between two people...they were huge! We will definitely be back!
