Excellent lunch and margaritas! Came here on a warm spring day and sat out on the patio. The service was spot on. We quickly were seated and brought tortilla chips and different salsas. They also brought some sort of broth soup which was pretty good. I had the chicken enchiladas with a white sauce on top, very tasty. My mom had chicken quesadillas and said they were awesome. The coconut margarita was one of the best margaritas I've ever had. It had chunks of real coconut on the bottom. We left full and happy.

Ok, this is place is great. They have an open kitchen. So, you can see how clean it is, and how they prepare your food. They have Papusas, if you don't know about these, it's an absolute must! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Truly impressed with this place!

Not too shabby. Nice decor. Friendly wait staff. Food was excellent. My wife is from Central America and was happy to have something here in town that was kind of close to what she grew up with food-wise. Will return again.

Maybe it was my high expectation for this place but oh well... Here it is from a frequent traveler with a well developed palate, I can summarize this place as: 1.- Very bad customer service, 2.- Food is not bad but not more than OK. I personally will not go back, there are far better places around the area.

I don't know why it took me so long to try this wonderful place when it is so close to me. Recently finishing a big make over, this place now looks absolutely wonderful, and it is a lot bigger on the inside than I expected. They even have a full bar, which was a great surprise. The servers here were very attentive and a pleasure to interact with. The menu has a broad selection, with plenty to choose from, especially for picky eaters like myself. I expected a typical Mexican food quality and was blown away. The prices lead me to believe my food would be sub-par, but the dishes that came out were delectable. This will definitely become a date night staple for my wife and I.

Pupusas!!! Don't order anything else. Seriously we've tried other items on the menu like flautas, enchiladas Guatemalan pollo ... Pupusas are what you travel to this spot for! Staff is plentiful and friendly. They do take reservations and they have beer and beverage specials even on weekends. Bean dip is bomb. Perfect location in Plaza to shop and bar hop before and after!!

File this one under places to go over and over. My friends and I wanted to try somewhere new, and we basically covered our eyes and put our finger on a map to find this place. (The map may or may not have been of the Paseo, but..) The server was phenomenal.. I can't remember his name. Jerry maybe? He kept us entertained, drinks full, and was just genuinely awesome all night. The patio is great and a skip away from ice cream at Roxy's, but honestly I had their cheesecake and maybe just do that instead? That cheesecake was bomb.

When I eat whole fish. I feel closer to JESUS. So this is what the 5000 hungry souls he feed in present times would look like. The whole fried Fish is very good. Chiltepe's latin cuisine is located at 1800 n.w.16th n plaza in the plaza district. The bar is open until 2am. The queso has been cold im my second visit. but when you request a second bowl its hot. I don't understand why that is. The staff are friendly and helpful with great suggestions.

We went to this restaurant on a Night on the Plaza night. Very impressed with this restaurant. First of all we were drawn in the incredibly good band playing outdoors on their patio. That's when I really first noticed that the place was much larger than I had first noticed on precious jaunts to the Plaza. Upon entering Chilitepes we were greeted by two young hostesses. They were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We were seated in a booth where I had the chance to look around. There are several super large TV's. One of which had a soccer match on. I think they take their soccer seriously in here. Overall the restaurant is very nice inside and very busy. There were people at all the tables and booths not to mention the patio where live music was occurring. The Margarita was excellent. The food is what hooked me. I ordered some Chalupas and they were so spot on. The outer tortilla had the perfect amount of crunch and the meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. If the Chalupas were any indication of the rest of their menu then you just can't go wrong. I highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back and try some other menu items.

I dined here when they first opened and am basing my review souly on the food just to be fair. It was good. Queso - not orange or yellow. Kind of creamy looking. I needed more of that stuff in my life. Always turn down queso, but this was an exception. Chips- good. Crispy, lightly salted. I actually enjoyed the batch that was slightly undercooked. Felt like they tasted better, but that's just me. My Pollo de Crema? Also good. The beans were my fav part of the dish. Everything else was pretty standard though I wasn't wild about the sauce. Chicken was tender. Pupusas- really really good. My husband ordered them and the icing on the cake. They stuffed it well enough so that you got a good portion of meat with each bite. Plantains- also good and cooked well. No complaints :) Tortillas were corn so I was disappointed. I'm a flour tortilla girl... Though they were home made. Average pricing with a good variety of dishes. I'm not really sure if I would go back if I was back in town, but worth a try just once!

Great service, great patio. Inside is family style and simple, but nice and clean. I suggest trying the Guatemalan specialties like the pupusas. They are good and something you can't get at too many places in OKC. Also, come here for lunch. There are great specials in the $6-$8 range, which is a great deal.

Unfortunately, I'm really not a fan of this place. I would give them 2.5 stars... Chips and salsas- while I enjoyed the flavors, sauces are notably thin. Everything just slides off your chips. I would rather they offered one salsa and did it well, you know? Food quality is where I get the most heartburn. We had the carne asada and bistec. Meat quality was too low for the price. Rice and beans cost pennies... no reason why your meat quality should be that poor when prices are the same as other folks pulling it off better.

Considering we adopted our boy from Guatemala, we are always up for trying something from WAY south of the border. As for the food... We have enjoyed the Rellenitos as an appetizer. These dumplings made of mashed plantains and stuffed with blacks beans made our mouths happy. On recommendation of the staff, we tried the Papusas and Pepian del pollo. The Pepian lacked a stand-out flavor for me, but the Papusas were meat and cheese-stuffed tortilla goodness. Definitely the winner in the dinner plate face off. As a dessert, we tried the Plantains del Crema. Now... We love our plantains, but the sugar and sour cream mixture dipping sauce was a bit weird. Maybe we are too gringo for our own good. In the end, we've been here a few times now, and a few items have stood out, but nothing keeps calling us back like some of the other Guatemalan places in the city.

For those of us who live for Guatemalan breakfast foods, the opening of @ChiltepesOKC means we could eat Guatemalan for every meal if we desired! I desperately needed to be able to eat Guatemalan for dinner! I've been so excited to try it, and was surprised and happy to stumble down to Live on the Plaza on Friday and find it open a day ahead of the previously published date. So happy they were open and busy on a Plaza Friday. So busy, in fact, that our hostess decided to also be our server. She did a wonderful, enthusiastic job though I'm sure it was her first time waiting tables. Chips and queso, along with a black bean sauce were served, and were delicious, and so were the margaritas. However, based on their size, I'm not sure they're going to be able to keep them at $7-$9 each as the glasses were pretty small and mostly ice. I ordered the bistec, which was very good and came with black beans and rice in a nice presentation, along with beautiful, fluffy Guatemalan tortillas. The tortillas were so good, and thick and filling, this meal could easily have been split between two people, which would save us money to spend on margaritas! I can't wait to come back here and try more wonderful food and drinks. Congratulations to the owners and staff - this is a wonderfully diverse and fun addition to the delightful district!

No complaints here. We came here for lunch. I think this is my first time having Guatemalan food, but I wasn't disappointed. The food was yummy. The setup was nice, they brought out 2 kinds of salsa, some black beans, chicken soup (I had to ask what it was since this was the first time I've ever been served this as a setup), and some kind of cream sauce with chips. They also brought us homemade tortillas upon request. These aren't your typical tortillas, they are smaller and thicker and have a cornmeal taste to them, but they are good. I had the Pollo En Crema which was divine. The chicken was falling-off-the-bone moist. I'm not a fan of the Russian salad that was served with it, but I have an aversion to mayonnaise. I also have a selection of specialty drinks, including Horchata and some others I can't remember the name of. They brought us samples upon request so we could try them before ordering. I have had Horchata before but not the other drinks so it was nice they let us sample them. The decor was modern and nice but comfortable. Our waiter was super friendly and knowledgable about the menu and willing to answer any questions.

I first went to Chiltepes when it was in the back of a convenience store and you had to speak a little Spanish to order. I loved it then and I am going to be honest I was nervous it would lose some of its charm with the remodel. I was definitely wrong! The food was absolutely delicious and the wait staff was delightful. I had the carne asada and it was good but I wish I would have ordered the pork chops. My friend ordered them and he was nice enough to share and it was amazing! Eric had the Guatemalan hot dog... And I know what you are thinking... But it was delicious! We went during plaza fest and it was very busy so the food was a little slow, but the waiter kept bringing us more salsa and recommending drinks so we didn't mind. He even brought out complimentary fried plantains because of our wait. I will definitely be back and I will be ordering those pork chops.

I was very impressed with Chiltepes! We went on a Sunday evening around 5 o'clock and there was actually a decent amount of people in there, so it's good to see they are doing well. I had a cucumberita and the pupusas, which are homemade tortillas stuffed with pork, beans or cheese, or a mixture (what I got). They were served with coleslaw and a sort of salsa/hot sauce on the side. My boyfriend had the bistec, which looked to be sliced steak in a tomato sauce/marinade that came with rice and black beans. Everything was so good. I'd had pupusas at a friend's baby shower a while back, and the ones at Chiltepes seemed authentic and had more filling than the ones I'd had before, which was a plus in my book. I'm usually not a big coleslaw fan, but the pupusas were perfect paired with the slaw and salsa, and I even added some avocado, which cooled down the spicy factor a little bit. I am from Oklahoma so I do love my Tex-Mex, but I also love some good, authentic fare, and it can be rare in this area. I will most definitely be back to Chiltepes and would recommend it to anyone!

I came here on their grand opening night. It was a bit chaotic but that was to be expected. Our waitress was nice and all the employees looked professional in their matching shirts and pants. I got to try several dishes and thought they were hit or miss. *The ceviche is really good. *The tamales are not bad either. I should warn you that they are spicy because there is a chili in the middle. I wish the chicken tamales didn't have bones. It was a chore picking/spitting out the bones and fat. *Platanos Con Crema is a miss for me. It is tasteless and the sauce that comes on the side did not help much. *chips and salsa are great. You get free queso plus two hot sauces. The red one is spicy but the green one is even worse so watch out! It goes without saying that because of their plaza district location, parking is a pain. The rest of the menu looked great so I plan to come back.

The tamarindo was so watered down and had no taste of sweet and sour tamarind. The fried talapia was bad. The fish had some smell of grass. No sauce to eat with. The only thing was Ok is the black bean sauce to eat with the chips. Tasteless salsa! Nice patio. Great addition for the plaza. Once should be enough to try out! The worst meal i've eaten for a long time

Matt and I have been to Chiltepes several times since it opened last year. We get consistently great service and consistently amazing food. The food is priced very fairly. My favorite entree is their fried fish (mojarra frita) this is the only restaurant outside of Asian restaurants in California where I have seen a fish served whole with the head. They have authentic Guatemalan food and for the crazy people who don't like Guatemalan food they also offer Mexican specialties. Their chips and cheese dip are to die for and are complementary before your meal. The patio is lots of fun on Plaza Fridays. Be sure to try their drink specialty- a mojito made with Guatemalan rum. Amazing. We also love their margaritas. This is a fun place to take our friends to to introduce them to a different side of the Plaza.

I was visiting OKC and my cousin took me here for dinner on their grand opening night. It was a mistake coming here that night. It was chaotic. Failed! The wait was horrific. It took forever to have a table available for four people. Service: our waitress was either forgetful or she had to bus too many tables where she didn't remember what table asked for what and we had to flagged her down a couple of times to remind her. Can we have some water, please??? Oh and tortillas too, please..... Parking: OMG. We had to park really far and walked to this place because there were no parking spaces available. Food: I've experienced better. The first thing that was brought out were chips and dips (queso plus two hot salsas). The red one is spicy but the green one is even worse so you've been warned! I ordered ceviche and seriously there were probably 4 shrimps chopped up drowning in the V8 juice along with cilantro, onions and cucumbers. I believe I paid $12 for that dish. REALLY? Other dishes ordered by three other people were just not worth the wait. This place would be at the bottom of my list when I do return to OKC to visit. I've experienced better service and food elsewhere.

The husband and I stopped into Chiltepes for lunch on Friday afternoon. The remodel they did on this place is really nice and a nice addition to the Plaza District. The meal started with chips, salsa, cheese sauce and a black bean purée. The black bean purée was a nice addition - it seemed like what that canned Fritos bean dip wishes it was. I ordered the Pollo Rostisado, which the menu said was a Guatemalan style fried chicken. It seemed like normal Southern fried chicken to me but it was well cooked and tasty. My husband got the Pepian de Pollo which was similar to a mole and really tasty. Both came with rice and beans, and this weeeeird "Russian" salad which seemed to be made of boiled potatoes, green beans, carrots and some kind of melon in this really strange white sauce. It's the only food I've ever eaten that really tasted like absolutely nothing. But the portions were nice sized so even with skipping the salad it was still plenty of food. They also served our meal with these delish house-made tortillas. They seemed like a cross between a corn and flour tortilla and they were hearty and super yum dipped in the black bean purée. Overall it's a nice atmosphere with solid food and good service. I'd go back to support a local business and would like to try something more traditional on my next visit.

5 stars by far. Great atmosphere! The patio is excellent. Service is superior. The best part , the food is wonderful! It's the full package! Love it

Chiltepes never popped for me. I remember people mentioning it here and there." That little Guatemalan place on the corner there". I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked through the door. Or my nose. The restaurant is beautiful and features a large wooden bar. The smells coming from the exposed kitchen would make anyone's mouth water. Its no surprise, because the food being prepared is all amaze. And for another matter... The wait staff and bartenders are all really great. It's always wonderful service with a smile. I hope this place remains a success so it will be available to everyone for a long time to come.

Had a wonderful relaxing Sunday lunch. Chips, salsa, black bean sauce and cup of chicken broth began our meal. All wonderful, would recommend adding the Picamas green sauce (on table). Great variety of dishes available. I had Pepian de Pollo, a chicken dish, that was fabulous!!! Chicken was so tender, I used a fork to cut, black beans and rice were delicious and Russian salad was divine. Homemade tortillas were perfect. We watched them being made. Music was enjoyed. Not too loud and great tunes. Cost of meal was appropriate and service was top notch! I highly recommend this restaurant!! We have visited all Guatemalan restaurant in OKC and this is one of our two favorites. Enjoy your visit!!

Unfortunately recent visits don't inspire me to keep eating here. Gigantic tv was showing an infomercial for prostrate problems, front door was propped open and it's Winter (we are with our coats on) service is slow, (I thought I'd never get the check) and food isn't that great anymore. There used to be shrimp in the ceviche..,

I was completely impressed with the whole experience. My friend and I stopped in on a Tuesday night for drinks and dinner. We ordered a cucumber bowl shot, which was advertised on a chalk board and sounded interesting, a diamond margarita and a house margarita. All were fantastic, particularly the cucumber bowl, which was exactly what it was-a hollowed out cucumber for the glass. It was filled with a chili liqueur, and it was delicious. For dinner I had the pepian de pollo, a chicken with a spiced sauce served with black beans, rice and a vegetable salad. It was flavorful and just very tasty. After filling up on the black bean dip, queso and chips before the meal, though, I had to take over half of it to go. My friend had the pacaya. He thoroughly enjoyed it, and the bite I took was good. Our server Dillon was also very helpful and informative in regard to our numerous questions and recommendation requests. He was great and everything he suggested was spot on.

What a fantastic meal we had tonight!! Guatemalan food prepared fresh and delicious! I had the Pollo Guisado! Spanish chicken stew in tomato sauce, and potatoes with a side of black beans, rice, avocado, fresh veggies, and handmade tortillas!! My husband had the Pupusas! Handmade tortillas filled with pork cheese and rice! We split the most delicious tamale!! Great music! Service was outstanding! You HAVE to give this one a try!!

Chiltepes is pretty yummy. The decor is modern, but not so much that I think they're trying too hard. It's got a lot of personal flare. Our service was excellent for lunch. Lots of hispanics eating here, so that's always a good sign. I ordered the pupusas, and they were yummy. $10 for 3 of them. You totally can share it. 3 is more than enough or one person. I'm definitely going to come again. Probably at night for drinks. Yes.

Yum, when for lunch, great food and nice people. Different food for OKC

  • Alisa F.

Brutal. They're wrapping silverware at the bar, the service is sub par, and the chips and dips are just OK. Not someplace I would come to on a regular basis. Oh, and the music guy doesn't speak Spanish.

This place is great! I've been hearing good things about it since it's opening and decided to check it out on a friday evening. The staff is really friendly and efficient and the food is really good! My boyfriend and I ordered chips & queso as the appetizer and it came with a pretty small saucer of queso, I couldn't really justify the $4 price tag, but it did come with a little cup of what seemed like pureed black beans- so not bad, but not amazing. The margarita that I got was FANTASTIC! It was called the Zapaña margarita I think; but it came with a shot on the side of Guatemalan rum to mix in. We ordered the carne asada dish & it came with black beans and seasoned rice. I liked the simplicity of the dish and it was very satisfying. If I'm ever in the mood for some latin food for a decent price- I'll definitely visit this place again.

    (5)
  • Matthew H.

Take the bones out of the chicken dishes. Flavor is very good but I'm a fat guy that's into wolfing down some Latin chow after my taste buds get the first bite. I almost died. What if I would have choked and knocked over my margaritas. Would you give me the Heimlich and another round of Rita's. I don't know how to say I'm chocking in Spanish. Bean slime that comes with chips and salsa is awkward. Fix the queso to be less chunky and uncheesy. Great spot to be in. Patio is perfect.

  • Seb M.

Friendly service and decent atmosphere.. but there isn't much to their food and drinks. I had a chamoi Margarita which was good, but my gf had a house Margarita that was average and had a bizarre flavor profile. Sour cream enchiladas for both of us which were again average, barely warm and stuffed w cheap chicken, not much flavor at all. Highlight of the meal was the beans and rice which is kind of sad. Stick to the Guatemalan food and you might be ok..

I've been here only three times now but each time has been an absolute delight. Our waiters were both bilingual, perhaps 'tri' but who can be certain, the food was delicious and prepared accordingly and the patio is top notch. We brought our dog and she gave her paw of approval. Only once was our order incorrect but it resulted in free margaritas which was a welcomed surprise. I always leave full, happy, slightly drunk and with a box of leftover goodness in hand. I recommend the burrito, fajitas and the first margarita on the drink menu.... Can't remember the name but it has a z in it for sure. Don't take my word for it! Get over there and try it for yourself!!!

Always enjoy trying different locales and had heard a lot about this place. Went on Friday night, had the place to ourselves. Lots of staff, but most standing around looking bored. Ordered our drinks and then waited for the server to return to take our order. Had to go to hostess stand to tell them we were ready to order. Food arrived, was edible, but far below expectations. Hate that for this is an up and coming area and popular with visitors. I'll be back in a few months to see if things have improved

Took my girls, daughter and grandaughter here for lunch. It was a delightful treat. The service was fast and efficient, they had the chips and 4 or 5 bowls of dips?/salsas? on the table soon as we got seated. They were thin and not very spicy, but had pleasant subtle flavors. However, when our main dishes came out , with them arrived some bowls of delicious chunky salsas.Robin and I had Papusas, hers pork, and mine cheese. Heather had Tamales, rice and beans. It was all delicious as is, but were really enhanced when splashed with those thin salsas. This place is going to be a winner...OOPS parking can be a problem..

Old chips thAt have been reheated over and over. The smell of a cardboard box. They had nice service though. Friendly waiter. Dinner was..I prob won't come back. I like how they have a full bar. We were all over the menu and it averaged out from ok to neh. Sorry guys.

I had heard this place was good, but was completely disappointed. We sat down and they immediately brought us cold queso.. the waiter acted surprised when we asked for hot queso. it took him 15 minutes or so to finally bring hot queso. Food was simply inedible. Ordered a vegetarian dish. It had pickled beets on it and they tasted like they came from a can. The other dish we ordered was cold. Service was slow. This place is not good.

Took my daughter for a birthday dinner and the family seemed to like it. I had the corn tamale with chicken and it just had a small strip of chicken with a bone in it and I also ordered the plantanes and they where not sweet enough.

  • Kelli M.

I wanted to love this place so much. Complementary set-up was great (both sauces fantastic, black bean sauce yummy, cheese sauce pretty good, chips good.) There were two major problems: language barrier with server, and time. The soft-spoken waitress advised what the sides where. When she said "papas" something I was thinking typical Mexican mashed potatoes or sliced potatoes. What I missed and would not have understood was the fritos part which means french fries. I ordered chicken quesadillas with beans and papas for both of my kids, enchiladas with beans and papas for me. We got quesadillas and french fries for my kids, enchiladas and rice and french fries for me. When I asked she got someone to interpret, who was put out that I didn't speak Spanish. Forget the part that the beans were forgotten all together. The attitude wasn't nice at all. I was made to feel foolish. This was topped by waiting 35 minutes for our food with the place about 1/2 full. During this time we ran out of everything more than once. The food was really pretty darn good - the things we thought we ordered, that is. I realize language is often an issue in authentic restaurants (which we frequent), but this was more than difficult. It will be a while before (if) we come back.

  • Kelly S.

Food was horrible here! Manager likes to make you feel stupid. They even brought out the wrong dish to me. Then laughed it off when it was brought up. They have bones in the tamales. Which if we knew that we would have never order it. I would not recommend this restaurant.

    (1)
  • Jamie G.

The place is nice and clean. The service was excellent. They served us some kind of chicken broth as well as bean soup and hot sauce all complimentary. The soups were a bit watery but I think that's how they are supposed to be We had the whole fried fish and this was well done. The food overall was tasty and best of all fresh. I loved the homemade tortillas. I will be going back.

Amazing food! Amazing service! Great part of town! Hidden gem of OKC!! You gotta try a cucumber shot!! It's the craziest little concoction!!

  • Dee B.

Happy stop. They were having issues with the AC and the pupusa maker went home early, the only two things bad I can report. Service was a bit spastic because of the issues at hand but they were doing their best. I had the Etofado and it was tasty. A good beef stew sort of dish. Loved the patio pets but I'm kind of crazy like that. BUT THEY DONT TAKE AMEX??!!

  • Adam C.

This place has food that's not nearly as "heavy" as Mexican cuisine, which I really liked. I had the vegetarian enchiladas which were great! I'd never had beets before in a dish like this and I loves it. The Guatemalan culture is everywhere and the real deal, and our waiter, Angel, was extremely friendly. Big thumbs up for Chiltepes.

  • Nancy R.

Keep in mind this is not a Mexican restaurant it's Guatemalan. I was served chips, salsa, black bean dip and queso. Also a complementary cup of chicken broth soup. I ordered the potato chicken tamales, instead of masa they used mashed potato with chicken and jalapeno pepper wrapped in banana leaf, it was delicious. I ordered Pepian de Pollo, which was a chicken leg and thigh in a tasty brown sauce with black beans, rice and what they called a Russian salad, overall excellent food it's fun, different and if you're adventurous I suggest you go try this restaurant.

  • Tara D.

Food was delicious! Cucumber Rita was amazing. Loved it! We sat on the patio and it was enjoyable. The service was okay, things were slow and we had to ask for drinks twice. Overall, I would recommend this place.

  • Jacob A.

Finally made it here. Atmosphere is nice; there's a huge, nice patio and indoors everything is brand new. The drinks: had a cucumberita, it was great. House Margarita was solid as well. Service: very attentive and kind. Our waiter checked on us a lot. Food: wonderful. If you're used to salty chain restaurants, go to Ted's or something. Guatemalan food isn't and shouldn't be over salted. The salsa was fantastic, pretty spicy (they could be better at refilling). We shared the chile rellano and loved it. Will come back!!
