This place has some incredible food! Their lunch buffet is awesome. And I'm not a fan of buffets. They have all your basics in small quantities, so the turnover is often and food is fresh. You may have to wait for something to be refilled, but it's a small price to pay for fresh food. The dinner menu is extensive, offering your typical meats and vegetarian options. They let you pick your spicy level from 1-10. I find it to be inconsistent though. For example, I worked my way up from a 4 to an 8. When I say 4, 5, 6, or 7, the owner just says medium, and it comes out the same every time. I wanted more spice, however, the time I ordered it at an 8, it was too hot for me. I've had to downgrade to a 7, and I'm back to wanting more spicy. The Naan is awesome! So why the start deduction? Their atmosphere is almost unbearable. They have a big TV on one side that is always way too loud. It usually has news, movies, or musicals from India on, which offers a nice culture addition, but it's just way to loud! This place stays busy, but I've noticed most their business is takeout. Now I know why! It's better at lunch, as there are more people there, but dinner is sparse as far as dine-in patrons go. Go for the lunch buffet to try lots of stuff, or order takeout for dinner.

Came here for lunch with some friends and at that time its a buffet. Its probably the best Indian food in ~Norman. They have a decent selection with just 1-2 small aisles, but its good enough for me! They cook it well, and they would bring out fresh food to replace the food. However, its a bit pricey for the amount of selection and for being a lunch buffet(at about a bit over $10), but like I said, if you want good Indian food that's close to campus, its probably worth it. However, if you don't mind a little bit fo a commute (15 minutes by the highway?), I think Himalayas in Moore is better.

I ate here last week and being Indian I can say the food was not 'taste of India' . It tastes old and reheated. The sweets were disgusting. Since it's a buffet I can't comment on the service but there was only the owner filling water glasses and no one else seems to be around. I wouldn't recommend this place - no authentic and not fresh.

I'd like to try a place that serves Indian food as plated entrees instead of this buffet bologna. That doesn't exist does it? Aw well. Buffet it is. Sadly, I have no portion control whatsoever. *sigh The man zone and his friend are fans of Taste of India. Since we no longer live in the area, I haven't had the chance to try this place out till I made the trip to Nompton a few weekends ago. I was told to prepare for the awesome naan bread spread with a little buttery goodness. Hm. Verdict? Pretty good. The dining area and food selection is not as big as Himalaya's. The buffet consisted of 2 vegetarian options (eggplant and lentils) and 3 chicken dishes (the standard butter chicken, tandoori, curry and tikka masala). I can't really remember the rest because they weren't for me. I was pretty happy with the chicken variety and I think the curry was the spiciest one. Surprisingly, I enjoyed that dish the best! As for the naan, I felt it was standard issue. The boo insisted that when they're not busy, each table gets their own basket of fresh bread. For a Sunday, they were busy and so we were stuck with the buffet bread. If I'm in the area, I think I'd try this place again. They do have a special menu that you can order off of, but the majority opt for the buffet. It was $10/pp for lunch.

My boyfriend and I went here recently for the first time and I loved it! I liked it so much that I wanted to go again a few days later, so we did. This time I noticed a few things. I ordered chicken curry and my boyfriend got something with lamb in it. He let me try his and I took a bite out of it and set it down. Later when I started eating my food. I took a bite out of my chicken and I noticed that it had the exact same color and texture that my boyfriend's "lamb" did. I wondered if they use the same meat for all the meals and say it's different. Then, my boyfriend came across something that made me sick. What I believe was part of a heart or something was in his meat. All the tubes and canals that are in the heart were sticking out of this piece of meat. I don't think that's supposed to be in there, I may be wrong. Probably not going back for a while.

We ordered Boti kabab tandoori. It was generally good. The thing made us disappointed was that after we ordered our food the waiter (he owns the restaurant) asked us whether we want bread. He asked this in a manner that we thought it is free. But he charged us for that bread. He was not polite enough. He told us" come here, come here to pay" !!!. I am also not sure how does he washes the utensils and cleans the restaurant. I will not go to this restaurant again.

Went during lunch time. Pretty decent amount of food and it was pretty good! First time trying and I would come back. Tv was too loud and only one employee present.

Taste of India is my favorite restaurant in Norman. The food is always consistently good and freshly made. The husband and wife who own the restaurant are very nice and accommodating. I have ordered several items on the menu which have all been great, but the lunch buffet is my favorite. The Butter Chicken is the greatest thing you will ever eat. This is by far the best Indian restaurant in the metro!

Taste of India is a little out of the way, definitely off of the main University of Oklahoma student drag. It's part of a shopping center that would otherwise seem pretty ordinary, but this place is great. Start with the samosas. They're smaller than some, but they pack a lot of flavor, with a special peppery garlic touch. Shoot for the plain naan and order some raita to go along with it. (I love it as a naan dipping sauce, especially with all the other table sauces and chutneys.) We tried the Channa Masala and the Malai Kofta, both Indian classics and great staple dishes to rate a joint by. Taste of India succeeds wonderfully at both. The Channa Masala is pretty interestingly spiced - garlic and cardamom and just a little cumin and tomato - with a great blend of chickpeas and chunks of potato. Definitely hearty! The Malai Kofta is a real treat - extremely flavorful and pretty tender; the cheese here has a strong presence. You can count on the rice being fresh and plentiful. A final touch - the rice pudding - has a great presence of raisins and almond slices, which other puddings can be kind of stingy on. The consistency is sort of custard-like, a bit thicker than you would expect from other Indian places, but still light, pure and delicious. The prices are fairly reasonable - the above meal came to about 30 dollars - and the service is friendly and really consistent. Do make it, and do enjoy~!

I just ordered from your menu on "Order Up", 1) to taste your menu 2) to try their delivery I am unhappy to report that I am less than pleased with both. I ordered your samosa appetizer (2) and received exactly 2...? How is one samosa for $3 not completely ridiculous? ...and how many pieces of naan do I receive for the same cost? 2... ?!? And wow how generous to receive 2 balls in the galub jamon! Omg!!! Maybe your location is etched in gold or something. But we will stick with Himalayas thank you. Oh, and the delivery service asked your staff to doublecheck the order... Yet I never received my pakora. Which was my daughter's only request- so much for the "dinner delivery"... I have to get out now anyway to go get her dinner. I won't be recommending your restaurant.

I found the curries didn't have a whole lot of flavor. Some of them were flat out cold at the buffet. My husband went to get the buffet and the lady working there flat out stopped him til I decided what to eat. We had friends come along so we could use a coupon that was $25 for $50 dollars worth of food. Went to pay and we were told we couldn't use it on the buffet. Didn't say that anywhere on the coupon. Were going to get our money back for the coupon, not good enough to go back.

I would usually take the time to drive north to Moore for Indian food, but this place is pretty good and close to home. I've only ever gone for the lunch buffet, but I've always enjoyed the food. I would recommend a buffet to anyone who is just beginning to try Indian food because you can try a variety of items and start to learn what you like. At taste of India, the buffet is small but there is enough variety to get a great plate of food. I love the naan bread and also the sweet dessert balls (I don't know what they are called). Oh, also the fried spinach things. Yum! The atmosphere is really laid back and the service is always good. Very friendly people here. Also, it's just a really convenient location with lots of parking.

After having eaten here over 100 times in a period spanning 2 years, my wife and I eat here no less than once a week and often twice a week, I can honestly say that this is the best food I have ever eaten in my life. Yes, even better than my own grandmother's cooking to answer that old cliché. Every dish I have eaten has been consistently perfect every time and I've received great service on each occasion. The family that runs and owns the resturant is wonderful, caring and more than willing to get to know their customers. Again I can not emphasize enough how much I love this resturant, family, and their food!

Oh my gosh, how is miss Taste Of India. It's been nearly four years since I left OK, but try as I might, I cannot find Indian that can even compare, in any city. Their chana masala-- I don't know what they are putting in it. Must be some kind of voodoo. I crave it sooo bad I almost want to plan a road trip just so I can eat it one more time. But then I'd have to go through OK and I don't know if I'm ready for that. The owners are so nice. Everything we ever ate there was great, which was very often, but it was the chana masala that haunts me!

I just had a lunch buffet there, and I didn't try their take out or order to cook food. The food was OK, but the choices was very limited for the buffet. It is a rip off. For the price, I would expect at least for some lamb stew.

The best Indian food in Norman, possibly the entire Oklahoma City area. Great selection of vegetarian options and the best chai I've ever had. The lunch buffet always has four vegetarian and four meat offerings, plus naan, papadum, soup, salad, and at least two deserts. Harmesh and his wife Sonia are really friendly and welcoming. Wait service, however, isn't their strongest point. My only complaints are that the quality of the mulligatawny soup varies a lot and the décor leaves something to be desired. Minor quibbles, though. Overall, this is a great place for authentic-style Indian food. P.S. The moderate price range is for dinner. The lunch buffet can be had for under $10.

The food is quite good. They don't compromise flavor or water down their dishes, so their food is intensely delicious. Maybe just a bit more expensive than I would have liked, but the quality of the food makes up for it. Not much atmosphere-wise for the price.

Here's a run down of the local Indian restaurants.... Taste of India: 4/5 stars Authentic food with good quality ingredients. Haven't tried the lunch buffet yet, but individual dinner items are delicious. Nice owner who throws in free dessert sometimes, but so-so decor and service. My top choice because they win hands down when it comes to taste. Misal: 3/5 stars Americanized food, but still pretty good quality. Upscale decor with a nice bar area. Good choice for taking someone out for work or as a date or to introduce a newbie to Indian food. Spice and Rice: 3/5 stars The first time I ate here, I got the veggie platter and was not impressed with the mixed vegetables or the lentils. The second time, I had the paneer tikka masala which was very good although the rice that came with it was a little dry. They do make a fantastic cup of authentic Indian chai however! For the price, the food isn't bad, but it drives me nuts that everything comes in disposable cups and plates even if you order to eat there. The "store" portion sells various dried lentils, spices, flour, and other cooking ingredients. Nothing fancy, but good for picking up some staples. The parking lot is only open to the public after 5pm. Himalayas: 2/5 stars Low quality food, in my opinion. Mostly used frozen vegetables so things have a mushy quality. Tandoori chicken was mostly bone and little meat. Weird thing was that even though there were flyers up for the Hindu temple, there was beef being served on the buffet. Definitely the most bang for your buck as things go though since there's a buffet for dinner also.

We got a gift card for lunch here and we were NOT disappointed. We came around lunchtime and we have either done the buffet or the menu. We chose two dishes off the menu. They looked small, but they are EXTREMELY filling. The Naan is delicious and the Mango Lassi is the perfect thing to offset spicy favors. I definitely recommend. Keep in mind that they're not open all day. They have specific lunch and dinner hours.

The experience I had here during lunch was extraordinary. The lady who greeted us asked if we'd been before and we responded that we hadn't, so she showed us the buffet. I asked what was vegan and there were only two options. I asked for the menu and got the veggie Thali. Less than 10 minutes later, she came out with a platter that had rice, chana masala, vegetable samosa, two other items that weren't on the menu, and tandoori roti. It was a meal made especially for me and she told me later during the meal that the two items that weren't on the menu were items they prepared in the back for the owners to eat. It was like they shared their dinner with me. I felt treated as a guest in the home of a friend and would highly recommend this place for lunch at least. I plan to go back here every time I want Indian food.

The best thing about this restaurant is that they sometimes serves even when they are closed. So you can try. The food is delicious and they have a lot of option to choose from. The ambience is ok but the service is good and fast. I will like to go to this place again.

Best Indian food in Oklahoma! I've never been unsatisfied here!! You def. get your money's worth of high quality Indian food here! Don't forget to try the Mango Lassi! Greattt treat especially with this heat! Love this place!

I've eaten at Taste of India twice within the past week, and many times years ago. The food is decent, and perhaps the best in Norman. It is rather expensive though, and there tends to be pressure to order more food than necessary. The service is kind of odd as well, with the server having people pass down plates to each other instead of going around and replacing their previous plates. Since there was almost nobody else in the restaurant both times we ate there, I would hope for slightly more service and some complementary things would have been nice on our second trip at least. I suggest not ordering the dinner for two. It comes with a lot more food than necessary for two people, and the dessert option is pretty bad compared to the thali combination. It also apparently doesn't come with chai tea, although that's not apparent from the menu since it is right next to the thali combo. Their chai is pretty good though, since many places make it too sweet.

I love it. The owners has always been very welcoming & nice. Service may not be speedy but I tend to be more focused on enjoying my dining experience, not watching the clock. Food is very good. Have never been disappointed and tend to order everything. I like the deco just the way it is. It works. The atmosphere seems authentic, like the comforts of being in somebody's home. They are not trying to be ultramodern or the Cheesecake Factory of Indian food. Which is good.

Now, I have never eaten here just gotten take away. I am allergic to fenugreek so I have to be really careful about what I eat at Indian places. I've stuck to the chicken tandoor dishes to be safe and they have been pretty decent. I would rather have saag or masala but it's too risky and that's my predicament, I guess. The lamb samosas are really tasty! We've had the lamb kebabs also, a little dry but the seasoning was spot on. He owner is nice and always throws some kind of candy or desert in for free with our to go order.

This was our first experience with Indian food in Oklahoma and were very pleasantly surprised. It's located in strip mall and not the nicest to look at but the tastes and textures were excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. Would recommend for anyone wanting good Indian food in Norman.

Taste of India is a favorite of mine. I have never had a bad experience and the gentlemen is always very polite and sometimes will comp repeate customers with a free Chi Tea! The samosas, they are fantastic and can be a meal all in themselves. Pricing and atmosphere are just right.

What?! How can this place have no reviews when it's the best Indian food in Norman, if not one of the best Indian places I've ever eaten at (including places in London!) Their lunch buffet is the BEST, and their dinner options are great too. But back to the lunch buffet... It's the best value and always is filled with delicious options. Their tandoori chicken, dal and everything else I've ever eaten on the buffet is wonderful. The naan bread is great too, and the rice pudding to finish the meal is always creamy & delicious. And since it's all you can eat, I always go with an empty stomach and generally don't have to eat the rest of the day. I love it! Like I said, it's also great for dinner, but expect to pay a bit more than lunch. It's totally worth it!

Although the food was tasty, the owner padded our bill by almost $25. It was explained as 'other charges' and we didn't argue because we had guests with us. We'll never eat here again because of this. A $30 bill ended up costing almost $50.

The food was plentiful, fresh and delicious. I am taking enough home for 1-2 meals, so the portions are off the charts. The restaurant is in an old building, however every single thing was perfectly cleaned and impeccably organized. The family who run the restaurant are adorable! Very delicious

Tried this place because of the reviews. I ordered chicken tikka to go. Got home, chicken was super artificially red colored (which a lot of places do), but when I tried it, literally no tikka flavor. If I closed my eyes and ate it, I would think I'm eating chicken just cooked with out salt/pepper/seasoning of any kind. It was just red. I guess I was just super excited because it looked good. Maybe I just got unlucky. Will update review if I crave Indian food again since this is the closest to my place. :(

I was very pleased with the food and service. The people who own and operate this place are very kind and helpful with choosing what to order for those who maybe are not so familiar with Indian food (my bf). The $11 tip they took for me using a $25 Gift Certificate (min purchase of $45) I was not so pleased with. Because of that alone I had to knock off one star. I would have gladly given them a nice tip, but to make that mandatory when the coupon stated to tip them based on total price, not the discounted price was a bit confusing. Aside from that I honest will say this place is really very good. I love Indian food and this place has some great food and portions are huge. We did their assorted appetizer, my bf had the tandoori mixed grill and a mango lassi, I had the lamb biryani and novratana korma and some nan (my bf had the garlic and I had the pishawari). I was not in the mood for the only dessert that they had that day (there was only one other party in the entire place and one other sat down half way through our meal, so it was not packed at all, I was wondering why only one choice) which was the gulab, so I passed but he enjoyed it. The total was nearly $70 (before the coupon or tip) which was extremely expensive but if you want authentic Indian in Norman, this is the place to go. Next time I dine here I will have to forgo any coupons and tip accordingly.
