Syrup seems to be Norman's hot new venue for brunch. So naturally, I tried it out. As other yelpers have pointed out, it is quite busy, and expect a long wait time on sunday mornings. I will have to pleasantly disagree with some of my friend's reviews, I think their food is pretty good, and I really enjoy their coffee. Their pumpkin pancakes with marshmallows & walnuts are pretty damn tasty, but you can't eat them by yourself. I enjoy their fritata, as it comes with toast and fruit, but if memory serves it always tastes a little bland. I love the crazy eclectic mix of furniture and the feel it gives. Frankly, because of all the crowds, the place isn't the best for brunch, but its a good brunch spot, and I'm glad we have it!

I came here when they had a groupon available. My friend and I each ordered a different item so we could try a little bit of everything. I ordered the french toast which was delicious! It was coated with cornflakes, which makes the french toast crunchy rather than soggy. It was served with a side of fruit and warm maple syrup. My friend ordered the frittata which wasn't too bad. The table we sat at was slightly uncomfortable, but other than that, I would definitely come back if I'm wanting breakfast!

After my first experience was not so hot, I decided to give Syrup another chance this morning. The wait time was 40 minutes for two people- something I recall being similar to the last time I ate here. After finally being seated, I tried the Nompton with poached eggs and sausage- I also substituted a waffle for my pancakes. Let me start out by saying that this breakfast cost $10, much more than a similar breakfast would cost anywhere else. My poached eggs were undercooked and had a faint taste of vinegar. My waffle was not crispy, it was more like a pancake in a waffle shape; but the potatoes were great (my favorite part from last visit also). Overall I feel this place is over-rated, over-priced, and definitely NOT worth the wait! I could find a similar (and cheaper) breakfast just about anywhere. The service is phenomenal, and the atmosphere is very charming- but I will not be returning.

I'm giving this place 5 stars for several reasons first of which is because of the wonderful tasting coffee. Second reason was the absolutely great service. Really, the wait staff was great. If your wanting breakfast but don't want to leave feeling heavy this is the place for you. Portions are not large but very tasty. I travel a lot and order the same thing every time. Biscuits n Gravy. Homemade Biscuit and the gravy Wow. Give it a try and yes it did remind me of Portlandia. Lol
(5)Michael W.
The sweet and bare bones atmosphere is refreshing. It has a bare industrial rustic feel to it with highlights of class. I feel like the owners have a Pinterest account and they are not afraid to use it. The food is simple and good. The coffee is the same, no imagination, but none needed. I just want coffee and that's what they have. The fresh flowers in each table are a nice touch. Less is more with this place. Mason jars to drink water out of makes me want moonshine, and somehow I feel like they would be cool with that. I have eaten here a handful of times and every time it has been a very decent meal. Today I had biscuits and gravy and a half stack of plain Jane pancakes. The gravy is exceptional and not your typical diner slop that you get almost everywhere. The pancakes are pancakes not much to mess up or sing about. If you want breakfast with a slightly hipster feel to it you've found your place Ace.

Syrup is a great breakfast joint in Norman. Waited for a decent amount of time to get a table on Sunday morning, which is expected anywhere. Their bacon is ridiculously good and you have to get a coffee. The hollandaise from the eggs Benedict is a little plain, but their build your own pancakes/waffles really hit the spot!
(4)Bart B.
I go to a restaurant at 3 times before I post a review. This place is great with a good menu. All the different food I ordered was fantastic. Best coffee in town.
(5)Lisa N.
Avoid Sundays! If you go on a Sunday you have to wait a long time for a table. You just have to sit on the street curb or in your car or just stand outside until your table is ready. The prices are high and you don't get much food. The food is good but nothing special.
(2)Kayla H.
I love this cute little place! They have wonderful breakfast food and coffee! Some times if you do not get there early (9:00) then you may have to wait 30 minutes but well worth the 30 minute wait. They are open for lunch but I have never been during lunch...
(4)Gabe Q.
Great atmosphere. In a college town, so the "hipster" name makes sense. I got the Morning Glory and my wife got the Biscuits and Gravy. Tasted great, but portion was a little small. Coffee was a little burnt. Makes sense though, since they close at 2 and we got there right before they closed. 4 stars.

My wife and I have wanted to try this place for awhile, but every time we've shown up the line is out the door. That bodes well for any restaurant. Today we were pleasantly surprised to find that the wait was only five minutes for Sunday brunch! We ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes and biscuits & gravy to share. The pancakes were pretty good, and had a fun cinnamon roll taste. The biscuits and gravy had great flavor, but the gravy was lukewarm at best when it was delivered to the table. The French press we ordered was great. Service was a little on the slow side. Overall, I don't really understand the hype. The pancakes were unique, but not so amazing as to warrant continual returns. I've heard great things about the frittatas and eggs benedict, so maybe those are better options. Other reviewers rave about the coffee, but if that's all you're looking for, I personally think Grey Owl is a much better option. We'll probably give it another shot to be sure, but for now Syrup is not on our list of must-return restaurants.
(3)Elizabeth N.
After reading a couple of the reviews, I was anticipating a less than ideal experience. However, we had a wonderful time from beginning to end! We went for Sunday breakfast - arrived around 8:15 and didn't have to wait for a table. Once we finished around 9, the restaurant was nearly full. I had the best seat in the house and was able to see all the food coming out of the kitchen. Everything looked great and I got a few ideas of what to order next time. At our table we had cinnamon sugar pancakes, side of bacon and fruit parfait. Everything was delicious! The presentation of the fruit parfait was adorable as well. Will definitely return!
(5)Karuna N.
Jonny was my server and was so helpful! I ordered the morning glory and it was delicious! I wish I lived in OKC so I could go back!

Syrup has been open for sometime and this is my second time trying to visit. The first time, I double checked their Facebook page and it said they closed at 3. We walked in at 1:45 and was turned away because they were closed. They then changed the closing time to 2 after having brought it up to them. Either way, 1:45 is not 2. This time, actually getting to eat. We were greeted at the door and had it open for us by a very friendly and smiley person. We did not have to wait long for a table but it was very busy since it was a Sunday. Our server, however, was not as friendly and barely said two words to us. We were given styrofoam cups because they were out of their cute mason jars (a very cool idea, might I add. Unfortunately we could not participate.) I ordered a mediocre glass of $3 orange juice that was less than cold but still tasted fine. My date ordered chocolate milk and it was delicious. For brunch, I ordered the Eggs Benedict which was decent, but soggy and a small portion for it's $11, which is more by comparison to almost all other restaurants. (I'd like to think of myself as an Eggs Benny connoisseur). My date, however, got the French toast, something I would never order. It was actually very good, not AS crunchy, but great flavor and seemed very filling. Overall, the decor looks a lot like a muddled Pinterest board with a lot of great ideas but a little lacking in cohesion. The yellow booths are super comfy and cool and I noticed the drawers under the wooden booths - really cool idea. It seems like this place has a lot of potential and a great concept, but could use some reworking. Might I add, it was probably the most expensive brunch we've had including times where alcoholic drinks were involved (which can run up a tab for sure.) I don't see myself coming back for brunch specifically but it's good to know there's a place that has Eggs Benny during the week and not just Sundays.
(2)Stacy B.
Oh, my, best breakfast I've had in a looong time! Not an overwhelming menu, but great choices whether you want sweet or savory. Husband and I got the Nomton: eggs, fried potatoes, bacon or sausage, 2 pancakes. Potatoes were the best I've had. Son got the cinnamon roll pancakes, which were 4 pancakes covered in cinnamon roll icing. Served with syrup, but you won't need it. Super sweet but he said they were amazing. Friend got biscuits and gravy and they looked delicious. Gets crowded so go early, before 9. Funky, cool atmosphere. Very friendly staff.
(5)Rachel F.
Syrup is excellent! I was so happy to find that they offered gluten free options, which are hard to come by in the breakfast industry! I have been here a few times and have always left happy and full. The staff is friendly, the coffees and teas are excellent, and the atmosphere is hip but also welcoming.
(5)Blake M.
Average food. Long wait times. Would have rather spent my money at the Diner.
(2)Mike R.
I love Syrup! My family lives in Oklahoma and we go to church in Norman when I am home and we always go to Syrup afterwards for lunch! I typically get the eggs Benedict, but my parents got the blueberry pancakes and baked potato soup and both were excellent. Be sure to ask for the maple syrup if you get pancakes!! You won't regret it. This place is super unique and tasty, with something for everyone.
(5)John S.
Interesting place, like Starbucks with actual food. I heard they had a Belgium waffle-maker FROM BELGIUM so I had to try the waffles. I ordered the morning glory. It came out with bacon, eggs, and cheese TOPPING THE WAFFLE. This would be all well and good but the plate itself was barely big enough to hold the waffle, so some of my food ended up on the table. Synopsis: The waffle was very good. Coffee was good. Decor was good. The chairs were very uncomfortable. Wait staff was personable, but took a while to get our check. A few style over substance choices keeps this place from a 4 star rating.
(3)John G.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Service was spectacular and the good was even better! Short wait to be seated as well as a short wait or our food! Coffee is sublime, I had the morning glory and it blew my mind. I recommend getting the extra waffle, they serve it between the two waffles like a sandwhich! If in the Norman area stop in for some delicious breakfast/brunch
(5)Grace B.
Wonderful place for breakfast! All of my family was pleased! Loved the Greek yogurt parfait. Had great service! Also got the frittata which was good! My sister got the sweet potato pancakes which are amazing, but I couldn't get them as my main meal! Overall a great experience!
(5)Lisa P.
I loved this spot. It is located in downtown Norman. The decor is very cheery with yellow booths and bright crystal chandeliers. I had the breakfast sliders with sausage and they were great. They also serve Stumptown cold brew coffee which made my day. You could also buy ground Stumptown coffee to take home.
(5)Robert M.
"Sryup" surprised me. The taste of what was served was great, I ordered the Normpton with sweet potato cakes. What was good about the plate, the cakes with marshmallow cream and pecans was very tasty. The soft pecan wood smoked bacon very good. The eggs were fried correctly. The problems with the plate were not of much significance, 1 sausage patty way over cooked on one side, potatoes and meat greasy. All in all the food was very good. Lets talk gravy. There are two basic things that will tell you if the kitchen cares about their breakfast offerings. The one that seems easiest is the hardest, can the egg be prepared correctly. But the breakfast gravy is were you can tell if kitchens put the care in what they are doing. "Sryup " is making, what tastes like, made to order skillet gravy. The bulk coffee I had was well just plain. Service was pretty good. A single uniform for servers would help customers figure who worked there. Prices are on the up side, about what you would expect at I HOP. Decor and ambiance, this place was filled with twenty somethings and if the bench seats and there were tablecloths it would seem very up scale.
(3)Matt Q.
Easily one of the must eat places in Norman. The cinnamon roll pancakes are great but unless you're an up and coming diabetic you should pair it with someone ordering something more neutral. Blueberry pancakes are always safe. As with brunch places, expect a line as the day goes on.
(5)Connie M.
Wow just like most yelpers on here I was super excited to try this place. Well boo-hoo. It was not good. Pricey and the service was awful I mean awful. In my teens and most of 20's I worked in the service industry so I am really laid back when it comes to service. I had to actually get up and ask 5 people that were standing at the front looking right at us and clearly we hadn't been waited on b/c we didn't have drinks!!! The waiter was very cocky and rude. If my son hadn't have been there we would have left. As for the food I got the eggs benedict. Son had the cornflake French toast and finance had the morning glory. AS a family of foodies none of us were impressed. Won't be back
(1)Lara C.
I was extremely excited about trying this place out. I met up with one of favorite people and Norman to grab some late breakfast. I also told him to plan on waiting a while. So our wait was close to 45 minutes. The inside of the restaurant is very kitsch and adorable. I ordered the French Toast, coated in Corn flakes. The idea is very intriguing but in this case the execution was not stellar. I thought it was tough and dry. My date ordered the waffle with eggs bacon and cheese on it. He was very pleased. Over all it's a very fun restaurant. I will definitely be back to try it again.
(3)Maris B.
Hot dizzamn! If a place features eggs benedict, consider me there. I checked this place out early Sunday morning; the place was less than half-full, quiet, and lovely. I got a giant table to myself so I could sprawl out with my macchiato & kindle, and the staff were perfect - not too attentive, but sure to check on me periodically. The eggs benedict were pretty great (could've gone without the bacon, honestly (blasphemy!!?)), and I can easily see myself returning. Perfect place for a leisurely weekend morning.
(4)David K.
I want to be able to say a few nice things to balance everything out and support local. but heres the thing... when your a restaurant, all that matters to me is the food....period. Service and atmosphere come second and thats what the two stars are for. Every single time i try to give this local spot another chance it is extremely disappointing. Just plain bad breakfast food. Sorry guys, I've given you 5 or 6 tries and EVERY SINGLE TIME the food was cold, old/stale and overcooked. My business partners frittata was so salty she couldn't eat it this last time and she digs the salt. Would have to see a revamped f&b program before i will come back.
(2)Patricia W.
Cute restaurant, but very unimpressed with the food. They ran out of what I originally ordered so I ordered something new right away and I only got my food after the whole table had finished eating. And it was cold. It was also my suggestion to go to this restaurant! I really wanted to like this place. Bummer. I wish the food matched the cute aesthetics!
(2)Michelle L.
There are so many great aspects about this restaurant, where to begin? Take this review from someone who's eaten at this restaurant at least a dozen times. First, they ship their coffee in from a specialty roaster in Oregon. I like coffee but I would not consider myself a connoisseur. My husband on the other hand knows his coffee and loves Stumptown. But I definitely like the coffee being only an average coffee drinker. Second, I really enjoy the staff. Having to cart multiple children in to the restaurant couldn't be easier with friendly servers who always hold the door for me and rush out biscuits to appease my sometimes unhappy children. Max, Cameron and Hannah have been our servers when I've gone. Third, they offer really unique dishes. My favorite is their crunchy french toast. Sounds weird but I've never had it anywhere. My husband orders the Morning Glory and if you are a breakfast fan, that's probably what you want to try. If you're headed there for lunch their Spinach salad is my absolute favorite. Finally, I would say the atmosphere is super conducive to whatever you're headed there for. I've met both family and friends for meals and had meetings here, you can't go wrong. Some friends also hosted my baby shower in this location and it was so fun to visit with friends and get a private taste of their food.
(5)Katherine B.
Their pancakes are seriously simple and delicious, and the cold brewed coffee is amazeballs. I wasn't here to eat really, so I haven't tried anything else on their menu. The staff was happy and excited to help.

I'm sure I'm not alone in instantly dropping the last 3/4 of "Syrup: A breakfast boutique's" name. I don't know if they are like "A Tribe Called Quest" or what, but I, for one, have completely internalized their name as just Syrup. Besides, everything in here screams "boutique", from the small menu, to the minimalist yet polished decor, to the attentive waitstaff. The atmosphere is nice, on one hand I like decor- it isn't an eyesore. A large section of wall covered in what looks like reclaimed wood highlights otherwise sterile eggshell colored walls with simple chandeliers. With the exception of a few benches, the dining room furniture is hodge-podge, but comfortable. On the other hand the entire space is open and crowded with free standing tables- the lack of anything cushy to absorb sound waves give Syrup all the ambience of an institutional cafeteria. The food is better, obviously. I had a frittata. They were able to serve it without the meat, which, by the way, is probably the closest thing they have to a meatless meal, if you're vegetarian looking for something other than carbs and sugar. No complaints, it was done quite well. I also got a single pancake with strawberries to round out my meal and share with my GF and it was also delicious. We got a pair of coffees, two entrees, and a pancake, somehow my wallet is $30 lighter now. Oh well, I shouldn't be surprised...it says "Boutique" right on the sign. Syrup has a certain intangible that makes it different than all the other destinations on Main St.- it makes no attempt to connect with the "old downtown Main" ethos. It's not a mom n' pop looking store, It wasn't designed to look like it's been there for 35 years, there's no theta burger or dishes named after football coaches, there's no signs from classic norman institutions on the walls, and they unapologetically sell higher quality food.
(4)Josh B.
Despite other reviews, my group found this place, although expensive, quite good. I got the biscuits and gravy and they got the French Toast. Mine was incredible and theirs looked good. Will go back. They are a busy place, though.
(4)Elisabeth Z.
I love seeing new restaurants spring up in and around my beloved Norman. This place was adorable and the food was great! The staff was friendly and ready with a menu recommendation. I tried the Sweet Potato pancakes and their iced tea and I recommend you do as well. This is a great little spot, so big parties will probably have a bit of a wait. Absolutly recommend giving this place your business.
(4)Jenny T.
Wow what a find. Prolly the best breakfast I've had! Their frenchtoast is really good as is the biscuits and gravy. Real fresh coffee with drinks from mason jars gives a real down home feel. Be prepared to wait on game weekends.
(5)David A.
Long wait for a table and even longer wait for our food, there seemed to be a lot of confusion between the kitchen and Waite staff, the pancakes were very good as we'll as the coffee but my bacon was burnt and my wife's frittata was mostly potatoe, overall it was a disappointment,
(2)Mark W.
I generally wait until I've been to a place more than once, especially a new one as sometimes it takes a while to work out the kinks. First visit, ordered Eggs Benedict (eggs , as in more than one) we also ordered the waffle with eggs, sausage and cheese on top. Each order of "eggs" Benedict came was 1 egg? The waffle while ordered with sausage came with bacon. Both were cold and were obviously not served quickly as it took about 30 minutes to get the food. 2nd visit, more of the same, waffle was cold, bacon was burned beyond recognition. 3rd try, they almost got it right, almost. 4th try, same. I give up. As for the statement that all profits go to charity, that's nice, but why try to use that to gain customer loyalty when just good food will do that on its own. You don't need to toot your own horn when it comes to charitable giving, unless you are trying to impress someone.
(3)D K.
Good food decent price. Nice atmosphere. I will come back
(4)Marc B.
I had a watery frittata. The flavors were fine, but it was much more watery than it should have been. The vibe in Syrup is very hipster. I found the vibe to be enjoyable, but I don't think it can carry the food.
(2)Lorenzo S.
Great simple breakfast. This place has a short menu which I interpret to mean they focus on quality. My daughter and I ordered the Eggs Benedict it was very good. We also ordered the Crunchy French Toast and it is was very good, although a bit dry as noted in other posts. Service was excellent. The restaurant is relatively small with around twelve tables, seating was comfortable. and the Décor was great. The wait staff really does a good job of welcoming us and we were seated right away. Coffee and drinks were served quickly and food only took about 10 minutes at most. Since this place looks like a trendy stop, I imagine it will fill up quickly but worth the wait.
(5)Spika P.
Lovely decor, French press Stumptown coffee , yummy pancakes with pecans. Ordered the Morning Glory and couldn't eat more than half and I'm now prepping for a heart attack, not a wise decision but what can I say? food looked better on the menu than on the table. Worth a visit if you are around.
(3)Jeffrey A.
You're not supposed to find this type of place in Norman... but thankfully, now, you do. Had the good pleasure of eating at syrup with an OU professor, and from both an academic and culinary perspective, we were very impressed. High quality food, friendly service.
(5)Le B.
The Eggs Benedict is served with avocado and bacon. Perfection. The waffles in any variation are yum. But the true star is the coffee. The house blend is fantastic.
(5)Blayke H.
If you love breakfast, but your normal fare is not expensive enough for your taste, lacks pretension, hipsters, hung over frat boys named Brock, mediocrity in portion, diversity, and innovation - then come to Syrup! There you can find rude counter staff in addition to all the above. The only saving grace is that the waitstaff were lovely. Do yourself a favor - if you don't hate life and aren't a pretentious hipster spoiled d-bag with no real opinion of your own, then go 1 block east to The Diner and spend half the money for more and better food.
(1)Lauren A.
Syrup is a great breakfast place and I am so thankful they opened in Norman, OK. It has everything from the best pancakes to amazing coffee. Everyone who works there is friendly and I have never had a bad experience! The wait times on the weekends tend to be pretty long, so I usually go during the week when I can get right in. Also, I normally go for breakfast, but the turkey sandwich was a perfect lunch option. Try the Eggs Benedict; they are so good! I love Syrup!
(5)Becky C.
Nothing to write home about just yet. The restaurant is pretty. As a former employee of this Forward Foods location, I was blown away by how different it looks inside. Upscale, almost cabin-y, with a "Pinterest" (or so I've heard) vibe that's hard to find in this part of Norman. A for the coffee. The Stumptown cold brew is top notch AND comes in brilliant little packaging. B- for the service. They're finding their bearings, and that's fine, but there isn't anything on that menu that should take as long to come out as our food did. C for the food. If it's an $8 waffle with some stuff on top of it, I'd like a little more thought behind the presentation. It looked like a $5 waffle with stuff on top of it, if that. With a little more time, I think Syrup will work its way up in the ratings. For now, it's a perfectly fine breakfast spot with a strangely long wait and excellent coffee. I'll wait a bit, but I'll be back to see how things progress.
(2)Nina B.
Syrup, I really want to like you. I will give you another try...This place opened up last week and I heard some pretty good things. We arrived on a Sunday around 10:50 am and the place was full and had an hour wait. We figured we'd just try the food this time, so we ordered to-go. We were informed that they were out of to-go containers but that they could wrap it in aluminum foil. We were desperately hungry, so we agreed to our food in aluminum foil. I asked if we had brought our own tupper-ware, if that would have been okay, and they said yes. The service seemed a little frantic, my guess is since they are still getting used to running the restaurant. So we waited for our food, over 20 minutes, until they realized they forgot to submit our order. We were promptly reimbursed and the food came out in about 5 minutes. I had the morning glory (egg, cheese, and bacon on a waffle) and my husband had the french toast. The french toast was just okay. The bacon was fantastic. The waffle was heavy and dry which contradicts my friend's previous statements of their awesome waffles. I don't know if they are working on their consistency, or if we just got the okay batch. However, since we were sitting there, we watched several happy customers leave. The coffee is delightful. It has its ups and downs, so I'm hoping to up my rating from 3 stars.
(3)Molly O.
I don't understand this place. The whole "Missionary African Waffle" thing is pretty racist and Stumptown isn't speciality coffee, it's just coffee from Oregon. Go to Juan Del Fuego, at least they aren't TRYING to be pretentious and FAILING at it.
(2)Lee S.
Perfect place for a tasty Belgian waffle for me and my spouse had the waffle with eggs, shredded cheese and sausage. Filling without feeling overstuffed and service was prompt with the coffee refills. We've been here a couple times and other than seating being a bit tight when it's busy, I have no complaints.
(4)Kenny K.
Norman is a little far-afield for a typical breakfast outing for us, but we made a special trip after having heard so many good things about Syrup (full-disclosure - my niece works there). Even though the star employee was vacationing that day, we had a great visit... wonderful food (I had the Morning Glory), lots of good, hot coffee, and plenty of fun people-watching in a very pleasing environment.
(5)Sarah F.
This place is amazing. Worth the wait on the weekends... the food is simple, delicious, and the pecan-smoked bacon is heavenly. Fantastic atmosphere, attentive staff, and genuinely great food. Coming here makes me happy. Can't ask for a better start to your morning!
(5)Hallie O.
I thought this place was good! I think they are still working out some of the kinks.. Which is to be expected with any new place. It's definitely something fun and different in Norman.
(4)Jonathan F.
this is the new breakfast place in downtown norman that has taken over the old forward foods location next to guestroom records. the location and look is perfect for the area and exactly the type of business that i would like to see downtown. as far as the service goes i wasnt overly impressed, but didnt think it was bad either. it had the feel of a new place that is working out some kinks which is to be expected and totally fine with me. the staff was nice and courteous, but the service was slow and it felt like it was taking them a little extra time to get food out and turn tables over. the food looks incredible and tastes good too. i had the morning glory with sausage. basically imagine a big waffle as your plate topped with egg and sausage and syrup on the side. had a side of bacon which was great. as far as breakfasts go its a good option, but i prefer more of the greasy spoon variety. worth checking out and developing your own opinion.
(3)Southern M.
Tried it for the first time today and it was pretty good. The staff was friendly and helpful but the building was so noisy that I left with a headache. I had the sweet potato pancakes and they were pretty good. My husband had the Morning Glory and I liked it better. The decor is nice but the chairs are so uncomfortable to sit in. There was room for improvement but overall it was an enjoyable experience
(3)Julia B.
You know when you really want to like something, yet you keep getting disappointed? This has been my relationship with Syrup. The people are so nice, their message/mission is encouraging, but there is always 'something.' Whether my (almost $5) latte be lukewarm, we're constantly asking for things (not enough utensils on table, no pepper), etc. Today I went back for another try with my whole family. The food was great, but again... disappointed. We just felt bad because we were constantly having to ask for things (no half and half served with coffee, nor even asked), the bananas on my pancake were way overripe/mushy, and my sister was served her food late and after we had almost eaten half of ours. Again, I love this place and the food is usually very good. But I wish I wasn't so disappointed! Hoping this review helps in some way. They haven't lost my business yet.
(4)Hunter R.
They think they are cute. They are trying to be like a eatery from the northwest. A boutique style. It always has huge lines outside on the weekends. But being someone who has lived in the PACnorthwest; you have failed Syrup. Miserably. Your meals are no more than a frozen overpriced microwaveable meal that one buys at the grocery to heat and eat in a rush on the way out the door or lonely in front of the TV. Your portions are small. Too small. No grown man will feel full off of your plates. And I can, and do, make better breakfast meals at home. You want good food, go to PDX. Go to Scrambled. Your taste buds and your stomach will thank me later. Pass on the syrup this time.
(2)Ashley S.
The long weekend for July 4th was my opportunity to venture a little further out than I normally do for food. I've been hearing great things about a little place in Norman called Syrup. It's a breakfast spot that has a menu that packs a lot of punch. I glanced at it online briefly but I never like to look too long. I prefer to go and find something. So when I first saw the menu it seemed rather simple which is always fine with me. I'm always up for an adventure but I'm truly a simple person at heart. When arrived there was a wait (it was expected), so we walked around Main Street in Norman and they have some really nice food and retail locations that I'm planning on visiting in the near future. Once our table was ready we booked it back and got comfortable in or seats. The staff is extremely friendly with lots of smiles and hellos to go around. After going over the menu we ordered the same breakfast option but Willow added a twist to his meal. The Nompton was the winner of the day. Mine was pretty simple; Plain Jane Pancakes, Sausage, Scrambled Eggs and Breakfast Potatoes. Willow, on the other hand, went all out! His Nompton consisted of Sweet Potato Pancakes with Strawberries, Pecans and Marshmallows, Over-Easy Eggs, Sausage and Breakfast Potatoes. I think we were both mind blown by both of our plates. Even though I ordered plain pancakes the sweet cream in them gave them such a wonderful flavor. I feel like if I would have added anything to them I would have missed out on the simple goodness of them. I was afraid Willow's food would be too sweet for him (not a sweets fan), but he ate his pancakes in a matter of minutes. His sweet potato pancakes were not as sweet but with the extras they were perfect. He didn't even need his syrup! Even with all the extras our bill our bill was $21.00 and that included the tip! Needless to say, we will be heading back to Syrup very soon to check the rest of the menu.

If you've never had sweet potato pancakes in your life....you HAVE to have them. It's the most perfect, delicious, sweet-tooth craving thing ever. Seriously. If you want a hearty breakfast, such as the Nompton, (my favorite--their potatoes are amazing.) you can upgrade your pancakes to sweet potato pancakes. Their menu doesn't say that, but the waitress didn't act like it was a big deal, so hey! EAT ALL THE SWEET POTATO PANCAKES.

During the last major storm in Norman, we were without power for almost 24 hours so my mom and I decided to go out for breakfast. We wanted to try something new, so we decided on syrup. We came on a Thursday morning at about 11 am, and it was super busy. They told us the wait would be 20 - 25 minutes and they put us on an electronic waitlist. We got to see how far we were on the list using their site and were sent a text when our table was ready, which we thought was really cool. Every business should start doing that! The ambiance of this place is very hip, from the bright yellow tufted booths, to the fresh flowers placed on every table. I got fresh orange juice and the eggs benedict with a side of pancakes and my mom got the stuffed frittata with a side of potatoes and endless drip. My mom said her coffee was of great quality and her frittata came out piping hot. The eggs benedict was good, but it was completely cold so that's why I knocked off a star. I probably would have enjoyed it more had it come out hot like my mom's. Their pancakes are pretty good. They're more cakey than fluffy and they taste strongly of vanilla.

I love syrup. the restaurant and the condiment. this is such a good place for downtown Norman. the place is exceptionally good. good in so many ways: the food. let's talk about the morning glory. WOW. that's a breakfast for ya. eggs, bacon or sausage and cheese piled nice and high on sweet and soft waffles. YES PLEASE. the service. super friendly people. a sign in the restaurant reads: "bless the people, bless the city". they are intentional and genuine. this shows. the interior. so cute and fun. this place gets packed and loud, so that's a little disheartening when you can't hear your friend sitting next to you, but it's worth it. lots of college kids because, well, you're in a college town. the wait. the restaurant stays packed Saturdays. I came around 11am and waited about 30 minutes for a table for 4. however, the awesome part about it is that you can give the host your cell phone number and they will text you when your table is ready, meaning you're free to peruse the shops along Main as you wait. what a deal.

I had avoided this place for awhile because i am kind of a stuck up ass about hip places that have one name and then a period after that one name. You're seem to be asking for trouble when that is happening. BUT. it was really good. of course there was a line. it was saturday morning. i make fun of people who talk about brunch all the time because no one really gives a shit about brunch--but as a white person striving to be middle class i like to eat brunch when i can. but they take your name and they send you a text. so we went over to guestroom and listened to some kurt vile and waited. got the text. it's a small space. it didn't seem like one when it was forward foods but it does now. regardless. the coffee was tremendous. it's stumptown. you know what that means people who write this long of a review on yelp. the food was great. good eggs. even a good waffle and i don't like waffles. i got the sausage because i am finding bacon to be a tad on the gauche side these days--good ass sausage too. all in all a good trip--my old lady got the biscuits and gravy and she dug em and that means a lot. she likes biscuits and gravy. i don't get to norman much anymore but if i am there for brunch time i'd go there before Blu. and i learned a lesson--don't be a judgy asshole, Joey. sometimes places with one name and then a period can deliver good food. and good coffee. and a good environment. not a fan of the name though. still.

Went here a few times. I enjoy the coffee. The food is hit or miss, depending on what you order. The service is also spotty. The quality in both seems to have steadily declined with each passing visit. Like most "hip" places in Norman, the people and surroundings seem to be trying too hard, like they really want to be urban, but it's Norman, so yeah nah, not gonna happen.

Food is good, not great. Service is... Ok. Servers are frequently forgetful if you ask for things after having ordered or received your meal. Espresso machine has been down for about a month, and they frequently run out of their lavender latte syrup. If you're planning to visit for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday, come very early or somewhat late to avoid the rush. All in all, it's a nice place to sit around and have a nicely presented breakfast you can make easily at home. It's a staple of Main Street though, and the general Norman restaurant scene. Despite these complaints, it's worth a visit.

I'm very open to new experiences and new tastes. This place gave me none of those. When entering the front door you expect new and unique ways to excite your taste buds. This place failed on all fronts. The time it took to get the food was far too long for the quality of food received. My meal consisted of bacon that was far beyond over cooked. Eggs that were not cooked to order and cold. Potatoes that I make at home by mixing Lipton onion soup mix and olive oil and baked to hell and back. The only saving grace was the pancakes. They were very good. Now I know it sounds like I just had a ton of food and I should be full right? Wrong! The amount of money I paid for what I got was pathetic. I will never recommend this place to anyone as I am in the tourism industry for Oklahoma. I major disappointment for a place with so much potential.

This place is really good, but it leaves me wanting more... more meat and more food. But it's nice to find a breakfast place that finds flavor in things other than grease. Atmosphere: 5 stars This is a trendy little breakfast place that's not a greasy spoon. It's decorated with a modern feel, and has a very open dining area. It's concrete floor, and metal furniture makes the restaurant rather loud, but it's small enough that it's not too overwhelming. Menu: 3 stars I don't like a lot of carbs and sugar for breakfast (causes blood sugar issues for me), so I have a hard time finding something here that I like. It's a limited menu, and they focus on what they are good at. Waffles are their thing (and quite good), but they also have pancakes (sweet potato and buttermilk), sweet and savory add-ons to customize them, a small selection of lunch type items like salads and sandwiches, and quality coffee. They also have some scones, gluten-free pancakes, fruit and yogurt. Food: 5 stars Their waffles are stellar! The syrup is real syrup... not sugar water or something that comes from a plastic bottle molded like a woman. But most things are heavy on the sugar and carbs. I got the Morning Glory (Waffle topped with eggs, bacon or sausage, and cheddar - $8) the first time I went so I could get more protein. I didn't really care for the meat and eggs on waffles, but it was the only way to get meat. I did appreciate they used Tillamock cheddar and not plastic-type cheese. The components alone were great! The 2nd time I went I had the Stuffed Frittata (omelet with bacon, cheddar, onions, peppers and potatoes - $8). This dish made more sense to me and tasted a lot better together, but was so tiny. My husband is a coffee snob and really enjoyed their Stumptown coffee. I can't remember if he did french press or American style. But they offer coffee several different ways. Overall the food is made with high quality ingredients and attention to detail. The flavors are wonderful. The portions are pretty small. I did leave hungry both times I went, especially when I got the frittata. Price: 3 stars A tad on the pricy side considering the portions and ingredients that are used to make the dishes. The coffee seemed expensive to me too, but I can't remember what the prices are like at something equivalent like Elemental. $6 for french press seems high though. For a $10-13 breakfast ($8 dish, plus tax, tip, and maybe a drink), I expect to leave satisfied and not wanting a 2nd plate. Overall: 4 stars This is definitely a place you go for a light brunch, and not a place for a big brunch to hold you over until dinner. And if you are diabetic or sensitive to blood sugar problems, you will likely need to plan ahead. It's doable, but you might be jealous of the person sitting next to you with a plate of waffles loaded up with delicious syrup! But the food itself is delicious and of high quality!

I ordered the Egg's Benedict. Honestly, the only good part was the bacon and avocado. The "poached" egg was cooked all the way through which it's not supposed to be! It was literally like eating just a boiled egg. The hollandaise sauce was so bitter and tart for some reason. It also had a slice of tomato which they could've done without. The vibe here is cute, but that's about all there is to this place! Maybe other items are better.

Not even a week new to the area... my daughter and I decided to try out this "hip" cafe in downtown Norman. We were told wait would be 15-20 mins.. which it was. We waited outside and we're texted when table was ready. This gave us a chance to check out the menu. Service and food were very good and endless drip refills!! I definitely will be back. Thank you Syrup staff.

Coffee: Stumptown.. Yeah, bit o'Portlandia! My latte was very good. Cozy little place. Go- and go early- when you want pancakes, duh. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived at 8:30am; it was full, with guests waiting for tables, by 9:30am despite streets blocked off for the Norman Music Festival. Syrup's pancakes hit the spot for us. My son's "Plain Jane" was a 5 stack, which he paired with a thick caramel sauce and devoured in record time. The waiter kindly made me aware that half stacks are available, for those who want a lighter breakfast. I found the sweet potato pancakes light and moist, though I skipped the marshmallow fluff and opted for maple syrup instead. The bacon was flavorful and great for hangovers- just enough bacony deliciousness- neither too crispy nor too soft. Bonus: gluten-free menu available with plenty of pancake options. Should you desire maple syrup, ask for it. I didn't have an extra charge on my receipt, but I did see a special note for the kitchen that I had requested maple syrup. While this was a bit of a surprise considering the restaurant's name, it makes sense that Syrup wants to keep costs low and reserve liquid gold for those who want it badly enough to ask for it. Our waiter was courteous and accommodating. We had a couple of special requests, a bunch of questions, and returned our poached eggs. Throughout it all, he kept his cool, efficient demeanor. Softer footed chairs- so they don't screech when moved- would improve the acoustics, as would sound dampening curtains or rugs. Otherwise, the space is quite pleasant. We'll make the drive again, when we want pancakes and I'd rather not cook them myself. Neat treat.

I can't complain about the food! I went for the first time a week ago with my friend and boyfriend. Everything was presented so nicely! I got an americano and cinnamon roll pancakes. My boyfriend got french toast with a cereal crust and strawberries. Everything tasted amazing! It's a bit pricey for breakfast food, though, and the menu isn't very extensive.
(4)Raquel H.
Food was really delicious. The got 4 stars because the coffee was too bitter for my taste and the service was - not slow - just not efficient or inviting. Plus the acoustics of the restaurant are pretty horrible. Good food, everything else is blah.
(4)Maggie D.
I am in love with the food and ambiance, but the wait is quite a while. The last time I went it was close to closing time, the food was cold and I felt rushed out.
(4)Christopher F.
Limited menu and overpriced. The decor is kitschy and fun, and you will probably have to wait in line populated by college girls and tourists, but they need to step up their game if they are going to charge $11 for egg benedict. And I say egg benedict because it is one egg. For 11 bones. Okay, so then it better be a damned good egg benedict, right? Wrong. Way overcooked egg, not the runny, silken poached marvel you expect. You do get a lot of food with the biscuit and gravy, and it's pretty tasty. The french toast is pretty tasty too, but again, not worth what you pay for it. Service is generally ok and friendly, but do not expect a high end breakfast joint even though they charge for it. It's rather ho-hum and not worth the wait.

Although there was a little bit of a wait, the food was amazing and so was the service. Definitely would come back!

Wonderful crew, food delightful, and what a nice venue! The Barista was very talented, and my Mocha was sooo good!

As a regular customer and as someone who has litterally tried every item on the menu, I have to say this place is an excellent place to have a fresh and great tasting breakfast or lunch. My favorite item on the menu would have to be their "morning glory". Big waffle with scrambled eggs and sausage. Next favorite is their grill cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Great for a cold day. It warms you up nice. This place is great in many ways. Very chill place with great staffing and waiters. Food is always fresh and hot. Great place. Solid 5 stars

With each visit to Syrup, I become less thrilled with the restaurant. Several items on the menu seem overpriced, such as $4 for two small pancakes served with cold syrup. On my second to last visit, I ordered the Morning Glory. Upon receiving my meal, the waffle and eggs were cold and I had to send it back. My second plate was warmer, but still not as hot as it should have been. The staff did make it right by not charging me for my meal. I gave the restaurant another chance and decided to try the Nompton on my last visit (Syrup's take on a classic "Oklahoma breakfast"). The bacon, although it had a delicious flavor, was limp with one piece being inedible. My eggs also suffered from being undercooked. The potatoes had a good flavor, but the texture was mushy and not what I expected from roasted potatoes. The pancakes were definitely the highlight of the meal, although I would have preferred warmed syrup. My favorite dish at Syrup is the Home Sweet Homa (sweet potato pancakes topped with marshmallow cream and pecans) and I will continue to come back from time to time to get my fix even considering my recent disappointing visits. The service is as good as can be expected with such a busy and popular breakfast spot. The interior is well-decorated and there is a decent waiting area considering the small size of the restaurant.

Cute spot in Norman for breakfast! I was SO happy to see that they serve Stumptown. In town from LA visiting grandparents and was really needin some good coffee--- and then found my absolute favorite roaster!! I live down the street from the Stumptown in LA so this really fed my withdrawals. I got the frittata which was pretty yummy but came out barely warm. My toast was cold. A bummer because I think if it had all been really fresh it would have been amazing. My grandparents got waffles and pancakes and it all looked really delicious. Theirs was hot I think so mine probably sat while theirs was being cooked. Service was really friendly but pretty slow. Seemed like a few people in the restaurant were always looking around for the waiter. Cute interior, although my perfectionist self was having a hard time not getting up and straightening many of their crooked frames hanging up. hahha I'll probably be back next time I'm in town for some of that yummy Stumptown.

Syrup was a solid breakfast, and with some little tweaks, it could really be something. I ate at Syrup on a Tuesday around 10 am. There were about 5 tables seated. I sat down and had to wait some time, maybe 5 minutes, before I was approached. Once I was approached, however, drinks and food came quickly. I went with the morning glory: a waffle topped with scrambled eggs, cheddar, and your choice of breakfast meat (I went with sausage). I also got some skillet potatoes on the side ($2.50). The serving size is spot on, not so much that you're in a food coma, but you will certainly be full. I though the morning glory was a great value at $8.00. The waffle was a little dense and could have been crispier on the outside. That's a hallmark of a good waffle for me. It had good flavor though, not just typical bisquik waffle batter. The eggs, cheese, and sausage on top were plentiful. The eggs were fluffy, but the sausage was cold in spots. I don't know for sure of course, but it seems like they have crumbled sausage already cooked and just put it on top of the waffle. So, the jolt of cold was annoying when I ate. But, overall, when syrup is poured on top, this is a solid dish. If all of the components were hot and the waffle a little crispier, you'd have a fantastic breakfast. The potatoes had good flavor, very good in fact. But, like the waffle needing to be crispier, these potatoes needed to be cooked more. Some were perfect, tender and fluffy, but I got quite a few that still had that raw potato crunch. If all of the potatoes were evenly (and completely) cooked, these would be fantastic. Syrup is a comfy joint with quite a few tables. Once someone came by, service was great for the rest of the meal. I'll definitely return, hopefully I can get a meal that is prepared correctly and is hot, because I think it would be a very good breakfast.

Easily worth the drive from OKC. Anne the Wife and drove with the kiddo down to Norman for a family weekend breakfast. We'd read that the service was lacking, but we had a great server who was very quick. The smaller portion sizes wouldn't have me recommending to split an order like we normally would, but I'm glad we got to try a couple different menu items. We're looking forward to our next stop at Syrup.

Food was not necessarily any better or worse than the local breakfast joints. I give syrup a slight bump in comparison to Waffle House/iHop etc. The portion for the price is fairly low. I also order an iced mocha coffee on the way out and it was worse then any other I have had. Drenched in mocha syrup! Yuck! The taste was closer to that of a Hersey's bottle chocolate milk. The inside is much nicer than most breakfast joints so that's a plus.

The first time I went here, it was a bust, but they were new. I finally made it back and was redeemed. The eggs benedict were really good with an excellent hollandaise sauce. The prices seem a little high for what you get, but it's a good change from a greasy spoon breakfast. They stay busy, so plan ahead if you are short on time. I do love the wait feature where they text you when it's your turn to be seated--yay for technology. It makes it easier to wander around some of the downtown Norman shops.

I have tried pretty much everything on their menu and not one thing was bad. I love their breakfast options. The home sweet homa is awesome. Tasty fluff. The plain jane is the best with any added toppings your pretty little heart desires. If you're real hungry have it all with pancakes, sausage (I prefer it over the bacon), and eggs with some potatoes on the side. Their version of hash browns are pretty tasty. Not traditional but very tasty. If you like coffee then seriously give the house blend. It's really good. My bf liked the hot chocolate but I personally haven't tried it. We did have to send it back once to actually get it hotter cause it was more warm chocolate but he was happy as a clam once he had "hot" chocolate. Now here is the real update - the lunch!!! Omg their lunch items are so good. The melt with a bowl of soup is delicious. I wasn't too into the red pepper bisque but it was tasty. I personally loved the loaded potato soup. It's thick and savory and you have to try it with a sandwich. I don't truly recommend only having the half sandwich and cup of soup because the cups are small and it's so tasty you will want more. So just splurge and get a full sandwich and a bowl of soup, you won't regret it. All in all this is absolutely my favorite local spot for breakfast in Norman. I highly suggest that you go try out both the breakfast and lunch!

Syrup, syrup, syrup. Here's why I'm giving the place a 3/3: The place is cute. It screams 'take me on a first date here!' and would be an impressive brunch choice for all you with a partner you're trying to wow. The decor, the tables, the food ensemble feels like it comes straight out of Pinterest. I'll say this: the Glory WAS a good deal, BUT it is possible to purchase a waffle maker and make similar dishes at home for a fraction of the price. If you're not looking to cook, I'd say this is definitely a cute place to go. Sunday brunch wait lines are pretty long, per usual. I'm interested in giving this place another chance!
(3)Ashley W.
The Home-Sweet-Homa sweet potato pancakes never fail me. This place is ALWAYS buzzing regardless of the day or time; but it is definitely worth the wait. They offer Stumptown coffee that is straight from Portland and roasted the perfect way. On top of their amazing food and coffee, they also offer gluten-free options for all the GF sensitive/celiac people out there. It's tasty too; not like the cardboard pancakes you may get at other "pancake" places. The only thing I would change about this place is the noise level (it gets LOUD) and the space of the waiting area. The staff is seriously the nicest in town and they will definitely make sure you leave with a happy stomach!
(4)Rikki B.
Great coffee.. Food was decent. I had the Frittata which I thought would be awesome but it was mostly potatoes and tasted like a potato casserole. My boyfriend had the eggs Benedict. It was decent as well. Nothing special. The coffee is the best thing about this place. The Diner a few buildings down has better breakfast options. Pick up coffee to go from syrup and eat at The Diner..
