Campus Corner Mexican food institution. I've been coming to Pepe's for many years and the quality has remained consistent throughout this period. Pepe's has fresh salsa, pico, guac, and a nice salsa bar with some good offerings. Keep in mind you don't get the traditional "set up" you do at a lot of Tex Mex places in Oklahoma: queso, salsa, chips, relish, tortillas. But, I think this is probably a good thing. At Pepe's, the food is of greater quality, and since they are a business, giving that stuff away wouldn't be very wise. I typically get a burrito, either chicken or pork. The burritos are LARGE, and they are crammed full of rice, beans, and your choice of meat. Topped with sour cream, ranchero sauce, and some cheese, they are filling. The pork is flavorful and gets a little crispy from the grill. I think it loses some of its juiciness, but the flavor is fantastic. The chicken, on the other hand, is juicy, and the chunks are good size in your burrito. The burrito comes with some pico and a few chips, so you still get a side item. They are around $8, depending on your fillings, and like I said, if you leave hungry I'd be surprised. One must order is the fried jalapenos on the side. I think an order is $1.25, but I may be off on that. Either way, they are fantastic. They get a nice char on them and retain the heat that makes jalapenos great. They've got a solid and comfortable bar with the offerings you would expect from a Mexican joint. It gets crowded at lunch time, but Pepe's gets your food out quickly and employees are always around asking if you need anything. So, don't be turned off if you see a line, you'll get through it in plenty of time to get back to work. If the weather is nice, check out the patio out back. The world could use more places like Pepe's....

I enjoy Pepe Delgados. Unlike most mexican food restaurants in Oklahoma, you're not going to get a "set-up" of chips, queso, and salsa, but instead you're going to get a more authentic mexican food experience. (This is not to say that I don't love Tex-Mex too.) Being a year-round Normanite, the summer is the best time for me to go to Pepe's because I can find parking pretty easy. I usually order the chicken taco salad, which is an "off-menu" item, and a side of fried jalapeños. The friend jalapeños are where it's at! Delicious. I also love the variety of salsas they have. There's a nice covered outdoor patio in the back or you can sit inside. It's a pretty chilled out restaurant that serves delicious food and has stood the test of time on campus corner. I will definitely be back and I recommend this place to anyone.

We eat here at least once a week. When we return from a trip we generally have to eat at Pepes with 24 hours of returning. It is honestly my favorite food in the entire universe. I have never had a bad meal here. Best. Ever.

Fast friendly and good food. Didn't come to you cold and you don't leave hungry. Parking is a bitch though and if you don't get there early enough you'll be walking a distance to eat great Mexican food. Also, the Margaritas are a little strong....

Best Mexican food in town. I go here so often they know us and have watched our kid grow up here. My only problem is that they are not open late! Of course if I ate during normal hours this wouldn't be a issue. They have really good guacamole. Good quality meats with solid flavor. They have really good Mexican rice; I know that sounds odd but it is rather difficult to find good rice! The staff is great. The owner is a wonderful guy and you always see him working in there helping out with his employees which is always a good sign. We particularly enjoy the back patio with the fountain. The kid loves to dance to the music out there. It's very family friendly and a local hot spot. Very, very busy during meal times. And is one of the rare places on campus corner that actually has its own designated parking lot which is really rather nice because parking can be a pain.

Gah. Yum. It was my first time here so it was a little overwhelming because I couldn't decide what to eat, there are so many delicious options! Note: you order at the counter, all the way in the back. They have menus to the side so you can grab one and stand aside so you don't hold up the line. Napkins, silverware and Togo boxes are all out for the taking. There's a salsa bar next to the drink cooler. Everyone was very friendly! The food was fantastic. Super fresh, not super heavy. I love the use of cilantro and onions in pretty much everything. No chimichangas here! You'll find nachos and quesadillas but true enchiladas in corn tortillas and meat dishes with yummy sauce. I had the #19, Rajitas in Chipotle sauce. So so so good. So smoky and spicy. The black beans and rice are great. I'm glad I only ate half so I can eat the rest for dinner. The one thing that would set Pepe's over the top is homemade tortillas!! That was a bit of a bummer.

We went to Pepe Delgato's on a friends recommendation and man oh man did his friend status go waaaay up. It was simply the best Mexican food I've ever had. The Chorizo Nachos and Fried Jalepenos were amazing. Also had a quesadilla that was perfect. Nothing was bad!!

Fresh ingredients and perfectly made. Real Mexican food and not Texmex. I've never been let down. The Wednesday special is puerco verde which is amazing.

My all time favorite restaurant been going here weekly for the last twenty years. Authentic mexican food, not your texmex clones.

I had lunch there one day with a small group. Our orders were delivered to our table and then removed and given to another table after we'd already touched them. We had ordered the same thing as a couple next to us. Felt awful that they ended up having food that had already been placed in front of us and honestly, I can hardly believe that it happened. The entire meal was underwhelming. Maybe I should have ordered something different. I just don't understand why people rave about this place. Service was such an issue on my visit I don't know that I'll be back.

Came to Norman on family business. It was great to get away. First, it amazes me how similar this area (what's it called?) looks to Aggieville in Manhattan. Keeping it looking good Big 12 bros! Moving on. This place was amazing. Everything was so fresh. I got the tamales, beans and rice. Had an appetizer of nachos and a fresh squeezed margarita. If you visit this place often, you'll already know my problem. But this was a huge mistake. Look people, the portion sizes are HUGE. Between my meal, my dining guest's and the appetizer I could have fed the entire Gaylord Family stadium! But the food, A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. You could tell everything was made fresh in the kitchen. No Sysco truck crap here. SOMEHOW I managed to finish my meal and most of the appetizer in a gargantuan feat of eating. I almost had to roll out of this place. Pro tip, split a meal unless you want to look like the girl from Willy Wonka.

Everything was fresh and good. The quesadilla was huge! I got the Mexican tacos..they were delicious!

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the entire USA. Fresh, flavorful, non-cheesy and delicious, I recommend it for young and old alike.

Average food, average flavors, yes I know it's not tex-mex. The staff seem strangely disconnected and act deflated. My guess would be cause the owner manager is short, abrupt, and non caring. Wife and I with son in law and daughter have ate here 5 times for Sunday Brunch and all have tried different dishes being unable to find one that is more than mediocre. I encourage anyone to try the place though and get their own opinion. Good luck Pepe, we will give you another chance in a few months.

I sought out Pepe Delgado's last time I was in Norman entirely because of their nomination on FiveThirtyEight's burrito bracket ( fivethirtyeight.com/feat… ). Though they did not advance out of the group stage, I was intrigued enough to give'er a shot. It's a standard college town main drag restaurant, with prominent space given to the bar and booths taking up the rest of the space. We received orientation from a friendly cashier, and we wound up with a burrito and some nachos. The nachos actually were better than the burrito, and very good. I suspect that's because it's the toppings and sauce that really make Pepe Delgado's yummy, as the acidic neon green sauce provided an extremely tart flavor spike to my burrito. Everything it touched became flavorful and tasty. Unfortunately, with a burrito of this size, the sauce only made it to about a third of the dish, and the meat, rice and beans inside were relatively lackluster without it. Not bad, just pedestrian fare. The nachos, however, were very well seasoned, and those seasonings combined with the sauce and fixins meant I was robbing my wife's plate as much as eating from my own. So this is a very nice spot in Norman, especially in the summer when school is not in session. A fun atmosphere, friendly staff, and competent food with a few bright spots, visually and otherwise, means I'll be happy to return any time someone's hankering for a burrito.

When I was younger, my mom used to go out to eat here with her work friends and bring me the leftovers. I'd devour them even if they were cold. As I got older and started going out more, I'd come eat at Pepe's on campus corner with my friends. No leftovers from me, though. The food here is cheap and delicious.

This was the First but definitely not the last time dining, best Mexican restaurant we've tried in Norman. And it's Not a chain!

Summer is here! Which also means I can eat at Pepe Delgados in my lunch hour again. During the school year it's really to popular for my to brave the crowds. It's totally good, fish tacos, burritos and a variety of tasty salsas make this one my favorite lunch spots during the "off season."

This place was amazing! One of those whole in the wall restaurants that deliver a 5 star meal. From the first bite I could tell they use fresh ingredients. Don't expect this to be a Tex-Mex place though. It doesn't have your typical enchiladas type dinners. It is more true to the southwestern and true Mexican style food. It's a "go to the counter to order and seat yourself" environment you'd expect from a more fast food type restaurant, but the quality of the food is well worth the hassle of waiting in line. I would strongly recommend this place to any of my friends!

    (5)
  • Mark H.

Sat at the bar. Jeff was the bar and makes an awesome margarita! chips and salsa are phenomenal. Jeff suggested some grilled jalapeños as a side and they are the bomb! This is where I'm going to eat from now on whenever I'm near Norman!

This is absolutely the best Mexican place in town. I've lived in Norman 10 years and have tried all of the local places, which are great if you want Tex-mex. BUT if you are looking for authentic Mexican food head to Pepe's and you will not be disappointed. The specials change daily and always a treat. My favorite dish is #19 Rajitas-beef. The super nachos are always a hit as well! You HAVE to start off with the salsa sampler and chips and don't forget about the fried jalapeños. Yum!!!!

    (5)
  • April C.

The super nachos were simply awesome! The food was fresh and portions were MASSIVE. I also ordered grilled jalapeños which I highly recommend ordering with anything because they were that good. I liked the casual atmosphere. All in all a great place to eat!

My co-workers are obsessed with Pepe's, but I'm like ehhhh..It's fine. On not so busy days, it's much more enjoyable. The menu is huge as well as the portions. Food arrives quickly and correctly (no one ever gets the wrong thing!). The tortilla soup has been a big hit lately, so try that out! You get free tortilla chips and four kinds of salsa to try out, but no free queso. Fun fact: Bob Stoops loves this place too --- he actually came in while I was there last week! Don't tell Bob I told ya.

  • Steve B.

We had the #16 (burrito loco) #17 (enchiladas verdes). Service was very fast and polite and the food was even better. I will suggest this to everyone. Very good and huge portions. My son ordered the super nachos and barely got through half. That is a big plate of chips!

Went here for the first time last night and I cannot believe I lived in Norman for 5 years and never knew the deliciousness of Pepe's!! My boyfriend had the fish tacos and they were flavorful and came with tasty tomatillo salsa. I had the steak fajitas, which are done a bit differently but nothing short of amazing: marinated strips of steak in sautéed onions and smothered in melted cheese. The black beans and rice were really good too, I cleaned my plate! The two of us ate and had a soft drink for only $25! Great date night, we will be back! A Norman staple. If you're there at lunch grab one of the specials and you can't go wrong. Most of the dishes could use a little more kick in the spice department, but overall a good and fresh stop.

I've been eating at Pepe's for years...always happy with the Vegetarian menu. The ingredients are fresh and the flavors are good. I'm a particular fan of the vegetarian nachos or the vegetarian plate. I don't care for their meat; most people I go with also get the vegetarian entrees because they're THAT GOOD. If in Norman, OK, try it!

Starting 1/4/2015 Pepe serves Sunday brunch and juice bar. As always, food is freshly prepared, great tasting and of high quality. Service is excellent and personable. Highly recommended.

We moved to Norman about the same time Pepe's opened their doors. My husband is of Mexican heritage and knows the cuisine, and Pepe's is always fresh, good and authentic Mexican ....NOT Tex-Mex! The sauces are made from fresh ingredients and from recipes The owner has developed over a long time and from his home area of Mexico. We have never had a bad meal there and the atmosphere is always friendly and service is good. If you want a real taste of Mexico, this is the best!!

  • Rachel S.

Pepe's is a great place to get fresh Mexican food. Unlike most "tex-mex" style places in Oklahoma, Pepe's doesn't give you a "set-up", but the salsa trio and guacamole are both great to start a meal. My favorite entrees are the fish tacos and black beans, but the nachos, quesadillas and tamales are also delicious. The fish tacos come with a mango slaw topping that is one of my favorite things to eat in Norman. The space is small, but the back patio is nice when the weather is good.

Best Mexican food in the metro by far. Counter service. Good bar. Nice patio in the back. Norman staple on OU's campus corner. I recommend the tamales on Fridays and the burrito loco any other day.

Pepe, I am so sorry that I wrote a bad review those many moons ago. How could I have known I was dissing the best authentic south of the border dining experience in all of Norman? Pepe Delgados is inexpensive, and I say that's a damn shame, as their food is some of the best (and huge portions) in Norman. I swear, you could order just the black bean dip and have that as a meal, which I have done a few times as a poor college student. Their food is excellent, I don't know how many ways to say it but it's freaking amazing. The back bean I mentioned? Fresh onions, quest fresco and the creamiest beans combine to make a tantalizing savory experience on a salty warm chip. Their fish tacos are amazing. Amazing, you guys. Amazing. They come with this incredible mango slaw and the portions are so big it's almost two meals! Their salsa is great, especially the salsa verde, it has a nice tangy spice. If you want great Mexican food, go to Pepes. Plus, they have cold horchata for those hot days, and it's nice and refreshing.

Oh Pepe's - How do I love you? Let me count the ways: 1. You consistently provide the best Mexican eats in town. 2. Even though you've raised your prices over the years, you're still ridiculously inexpensive. 3. You've been there for me for almost 2 decades. If you're a vegetarian, go to the counter and order "The Thing-Vegetarian". It's not on the menu, and it's SUPER good! It's a burrito stuffed with fried potatoes, beans, and rice and topped with a sour cream and guacamole sauce. It's also plated with a small side salad and fried onions, which is the perfect addition to a forkful of the burrito stuffing. I can't comment on any of the other vegetarian options (there are SEVERAL), b/c I always get this. The meat-loving hubby usually gets the pork tacos with the (AWESOME) spicy coleslaw. He is not a "coleslaw man", but he (and I quote) states it is "quite dandy". He reports the tacos as TASTY, and would be his recommendation for a first-timer. We always order a side of chips and salsa - They have the BEST chips!! Real, homemade delicious chips. Try them. A note on the portion sizes - The "Thing" is the largest dish they make. Or at least that's what the person working the counter once told me as she rang up my order, or as she put it: "Wow. I would have never guessed YOU'D order that. You do know that's like, our biggest plate, right?". Me: "I like to eat a lot." The other plates (I.e. pork tacos) are more reasonable in size, though still large. The "new" location has a full bar - Haven't had any of their drinks, but every time we go, there's always folks just sitting at the bar kicking back some libations. Highly recommend Pepe's, though get ready to become addicted.

Best Mexican food in Norman! My favorite dish is the super nachos with pork. The nachos are loaded with fresh ingredients and it is not covered in chili or that yellow fake queso stuff. These nachos almost seem to be like a salad so I like to think that they are healthy. The owner Emilo is very friendly and always stops by to say hello. Good food and service everytime.

I've been here for lunch at work maybe 6-8 times over the past 4 years or so. If you like Americanized Mexican food then this place may be decent. Otherwise, the fajitas are edible if you ignore the refried beans that take up a third of your plate and remove the excessive cheese. Fajitas are much better at On the Border. They make it hard to customize your order. For instance, the tacos are okay, but you can't order individual tacos. Instead you have to get an additional plate so for me I either get too little or too much. The outdoor seating is okay.

When you move to Oklahoma you become a connoisseur of Mexican food. Most of the time you find yourself with Tex-Mex, which I have my favorites around town, but if you want a delicious, authentic Mexican meal, Pepe's is as good as it gets in Norman or even OKC. So Tex-Mexers beware: this place has Tex Mex with an 'x' through it on the front door. They have your cheeses and (minimal) grease, but so much flavor that I suggest you put your mountains of colby jack aside for one meal and give them a fair shot. Specials are always a good way to go (I discovered their revolutionary mole through the daily specials) but a good stand-by are the pork Super Nachos with a side of guacamole and their fried jalapenos. Trust me. All of that needs to happen simultaneously. Don't argue. Sitting inside is always comfortable, but if you have a chance to sit on their back patio in the spring, please do. Maybe it was just the alignment of planets the times I have sat back there, but I felt like I was on vacation. At least not just on my hour lunch break... During lunch hours, parking at a meter can be difficult (25 cents = 1 hour, which is the max the meter will allow, so you will have to mind it if you are making an afternoon of it - they do ticket!), but there is a lot on the corner of Asp & White (N of Boyd) that you can park in and various other little lots around Campus Corner. If you can't park right away, never fear, people are coming and going a lot, just build that into your lunch hour. Walking & biking, of course, have no issues - there are bike racks all around Campus Corner! The family is great, the food is great, prices are affordable & you are in a great location on Campus Corner. Bottom line: Pepe's is GREAT. Must-eat for anyone visiting or living in the OKC/Norman area.

Good food! Emilio really knows what people likes and he delivers it. They've been on Campus Corner for longer than pretty much any other restaurant and its for a reason. Their specials are really good and definitely worth trying. The only thing I would avoid is getting the chile relleno late in the day. It's just not very good after lunch rush. Most Thursdays they sell out of it early so that's not a real risk.

My favorite restaurant in Norman. I enjoy starting out with the chips and salsa with a side of guac. Four different salsa choices ranging from a mild but flavorful verde to a spicy picante. My go to order for lunch and dinner is the rajitas picante, beef, flour tortillas. Just terrific. My wife loves the enchiladas verde, which is also a great choice. Very friendly, genuine staff - you can tell everyone enjoys working there. Also has a great patio for when the weather is nice. My wife and I are frequent customers and it feels like home to us because of the great food and great people.

  • Jen R.

It's the best Mexican food in Norman. The fish tacos are my absolute favorite, and it's a regular menu item now so they can be had any day of the week. The Mahi Mahi is always perfect, and the mango slaw with a splash of citrus (lime or lemon) makes these tacos just perfect. In the realm of weekly specials, the Chile Relleno is what makes Thursdays worth getting up for, and the tamales on Friday are great as well. Fresh ingredients, excellent salsas, and the best specials. Sigh. It's truly wonderful.

Each time I've eaten there (3 times now) I've thought, "Yeah, that was ok, but there's just something missing...". The food's always been good without being exceptional. I have to think I'm missing out because I've always gotten the food to-go; maybe the restaurant stocks a sublime hot sauce that's the key missing ingredient.

Unique Mexican spot on Campus Corner, everything tastes extremely fresh and healthy. Served quickly and cheaply. Lots of interesting and unique menu choices you won't see in other more traditional greasy Tex-Mex. Try "The Thing", it isn't on the menu, but is a Burrito Loco with potatoes and avocado sauce on top. Pretty easily my favorite restaurant in the world.

yummy food. Had chicken fajitas - ask to sub black beans instead. Sit at the bar and you will be served and not have to stand in line at the counter service. The people here are soooo friendly.

Delicious mexican food--so fresh, not oily, with great beans and lemony guac. The tomatillo sauce is excellent, and the tamales are delicious. The staff is friendly, and I always run into friends. Still, I miss the old location. The new one doesn't have quite the through-put, so sometimes I'm stranded looking for a seat. Still, something always clears up. I recommend the veggie tacos, the veggie plate, and the burrritos! But everything is good.

What most Mexican restaurants in Oklahoma do to queso is downright criminal. Almost across the board, the queso looks and tastes like Elmer's glue. It's a good thing that they don't bother with it at Pepe's. I've been a loyal customer for 20 years, ever since they started out across the alleyway from Suger's. The food is very authentic Mexican, not Tex-mex covered in cheese, sour cream, and guac. Which is great because I can get mediocre Tex-Mex anywhere. Everything is fresh and the daily specials never disappoint, especially on Fridays when they make home-made tamales. The Burrito Loco is a favorite, but I could just as easily munch on some carne asada tacos with nothing but onions, lime and cilantro. I like the fact that it is in the old Liberty D's spot and as much as I miss Liberty D's, they didn't change much. They did add a beautiful back patio with a cool water feature and lots of shade. The bar is well-socked, well-maintained, and well-used. The owner is always going back and forth from the kitchen to the dining area. I suspect to check on the patrons,as much as the score of the soccer game. He is wonderfully inviting and tolerates my middle-of-the-road Spanish with a smile.

My friend and I stopped in Norman to grab a quick lunch and I am so glad we chose Pepe Delgados. There was such a variety of dishes to chose from I had trouble settling on just one. I am a big fan of fish tacos and upon ordering the cashier told me that their fish tacos are prepared fresh upon ordering! I was extremely impressed by the service of the people there and the food was absolutely delicious and stayed under my road trip budget.

I've only been here once and I tried the burrito. It was pretty good, not super fantastic, but good. The chips were very good the salsa was just ok. I'd definitely go back and try all the different things on the menu.

First time to eat here and my wife and I were amazed. The food is outstanding, and the atmosphere is cool, as long as there's not a drunk, loud-mouthed idiot watching a football game, making sure that everyone within a 3-block radius can hear their (her) absurd analysis. Great chicken enchiladas!

Absolutely love this place, my favorite Mexican place in OKC metro area, we live in Edmond and make the 45 min drive frequently we love it so much. The service here is exceptional and they have a wide array of choices from your more authentic dishes to Tex-Mex for those who will only eat that kind of "Mexican".

  • Jamie M.

Pepe Delgados is the nastiest Mexican food I've ever eaten. I took one bite of the nachos and it tasted like someone puked in my mouth. The texture of their food is that of pig slop. The meat is tough, chewy, and bland. The sour cream "sauce" is gross. Why do they water it down? The salsa has zero heat to it. What's the point? The cheese is what I assume to be shredded mozzarella that's been melted into a dry, chewy "skin" onto the chips. I was so disgusted that I decided to try to eat some of my husband's rice and beans instead. You can't screw up rice and beans, right? Wrong! The rice is flavorless and dry. The beans tasted like they came straight from a can. The worst part is that their food isn't cheap. We completely wasted $20 on the nastiest Mexican food I've ever encountered. I couldn't even choke down their food just to be a good sport.

Best place ever. Our family grew up together with Pepe's. This place feels part of our own home.

Do yourself a favor and eat here. This place is amazing, and as others have noted, a Norman institution that actually lives up to that title each and every time we've eaten here. In fact, it's the standard bearer by which we (husband and my folks) judge all mexican food. Get the thing (off the menu). It's a loaded burrito with fried potatoes, grilled onions and red chili, green chili and sour cream sauces on the top. My favorite memory of college was riding my bike to go and eat an entire "thing" burrito before class. Now I try every new menu item and my favorites are arroz con pollo (chicken and rice) and mole. Everything is delicious, homemade, and flavorful. So in summary, eat at Pepe's. If it ever closes, I would start a fundraising drive to help Emilio run a new restaurant. In fact, he should be training his replacements so that when I am old, and he is very old, we will still have Pepe's.

Really good, healthy Mexican food. You'll see a wide range of people here, especially university students and professors with their families. Although they have much more space since expanding a few years ago, tables can still be hard to find at the height of the lunch or dinner hour. My wife swears by their chili rejenos (sp?), and their vegetarian options are excellent overall. If you like potatoes in your veggie burrito, be sure to ask for the "Veggie Thing"--a special item that's not listed on their main menu.

While the service style and atmosphere are a little odd, the food really is delicious and fresh. I always go for the super nachos with chicken. First of all, it's enormous. The guacamole is actually more like an avocado tomatillo sauce, and it's a highlight of the dish. The chicken is really tender and juicy.

there are a ton of mexican food places in oklahoma... no seriously. look up and check. its crazy how much oklahomans love their mexican food. so anytime you have a place with a loyal and devoted following like pepe delgados you know its gonna be good. it stands out from the rest because its not loaded down with cheese and grease on every plate. they use fresh ingredients, and make some of the best salsas in town. emilio, the owner, is one of the friendliest guys on campus and takes great care of his customers. on any sooner gameday, or okc thunder gameday you'll find friendly and familiar faces at the bar always ready to welcome another. has been an institution for years and never dissapoints. i almost always go with the quesadillas, but the nachos are another favorite. great place to take your vegetarian friends too!

When you're new to Norman and make your first cool friends, this is where they take you to eat. From there, you have a decision to make. You can order casually, consume your food like a reasonable human being, and move on with your life. What you'll probably end up doing is T. rex-ing your quesadilla and making a fool of yourself trying to inhale as much of your giant plate in the shortest amount of time possible, just to make sure nobody else gets their filthy mitts on it. It's not that everything here is the most excellent thing in the world, because...well...it isn't. Not always. The rice is bland, the dessert offerings are meh. But when it's good, omigah, it is SO. GOOD. Keep your eyeballs on the specials board, where rarer items like chile rellenos and slow-roasted pork show up. If you see a special and think, 'That seems like it's probably pretty go--" JUST GET IT. You will not be sorry, taste-wise. The portions here are large. My go-to (vegetarian nachos, spicy, sub black beans for pinto beans) is plenty for two adults, especially if you add a generous side of their fresh guacamole. Especially especially if those adults order fresh mango margaritas from the bar. Don't come in expecting to load up on free chips and salsa (but DO buy the chips and salsa, because the spicy salsa is awesome) and pasteurized-processed-queso-food-product. The food here is fresh (and tastes as such), filling and priced very well, and the service and bar staff are consistently great. Love. I love it. I want to go to there.

Best Mexican in Norman! It's one of our first stops when we are in town! The ingredients are fresh and flavorful. Food is not greasy and service is quick! Don't even bother going anyplace else for burritos!

Delicious! Always fresh! Less fat-laden than most "tex-mex." Go during 'student-free' times for a less crowded environment. A long time favorite in the Norman area.

Some really good food mixed in with some standard Mexican fare. The loco burrito is really loco--great flavour matched with really great pork. I've had a couple of so-so dishes, but those that are on are fantastically spot-on. Can get a bit crowded at lunch, and the grill closes earlier than desired for a place on Campus Corner (not great for a late-night bite), but ultimately a really good Mexican option in a town full of them.

I lived in Oklahoma for years, and really was introduced to Mexican food there. I assumed that Tex-Mex was "Mexican". After moving out to California and trying authentic Mexican food, I realized the focus on freshness and simple quality ingredients is much more important than "loadin' up on queso and cheese." Emilio, at Pepe's, demonstrates this beautifully in all of his items. The specials change, but the attention to fresh, flavorful tastes never do. My personal favorite is the loaded nachos (ironically). I've never quite had nachos like them -- because as a whole, nachos are seen as greasy, with a side of grease on top. At Pepe Delgado's-- it's a totally different experience. It's fresh fried tortilla chips with a dusting of chilli powder and salt, with fresh beans, cheese, and loaded with lettuce, tangy guacamole, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and a grilled meat of your choice. Served with salsa on the side, I tend to soak the entire dish with my sauce, and allow all the flavors to melt together before diving in. It's a gastronomical nirvana, every time. I've searched far and wide for nachos that rival these, and haven't-- the only other "nachos" I've seen (even at authentic Mexican joints here in LA) are deep fried chips with sticky oil and even stickier yellow Cheez-it drizzled on top. Boy I miss those nachos.

Best Mexican food in Norman. All fresh and authentic, great recipes and flavors. Friendly servers and a great bar. Love this place!

I thought the food was good, however they do not give you chips n salsa which in Oklahoma seems to be a must. They have a different spin on Mexican food than what most might be used to, but it is delicious!

I really enjoyed everything about this place... Awesome bartender, excellent food, and a pretty amazing Mexican beer selection...This everything one could hope for in a Mexican restaurant in the dusty mid-West.

I'd move back to Norman just to be closer to Pepe's. We were trying to figure out why it is so good today - the only thing we could come up with is it's fresh. It tastes fresh and so good. Even the refried beans are good. He uses a lot of cilantro and sauces. Everything is seasoned really well. Burrito Loco is the most popular but check out the other treasures...as mentioned in other reviews the specials are always delicious and different. Everybody knows the good mexican food in okc is on the south side...way south. As a bonus, the dude who owns this place still remembers me from when I was in college...10 years ago. This might be my favorite restaurant in all of oklahoma.

I've been eating at pepe delgado's for 12 years. The consistency level is remarkable. The food is always made fresh daily. The service is moderate. (but tipping not required, so no biggie) I recommend the enchiladas, the burrito loco, or the super nachos. Just a forewarning: this is not a 'tex-mex' restaurant. there is no queso here.

It's very, very good, but not quite the best out there. I've had Pepes maybe half a dozen times, and It's always packed, which has both positives and negatives. I'd say though that overall it's quite good, and I understand those who rate it 5 stars. To me though, there are enough minor negatives to drop it a slot. Likes: Like the other reviews said, it's a little bit more authentic than typical Tex Mex, and they serve black beans and stuff like that instead of pure Tex Mex. If you like the spicy stuff, this place is right up your alley. It's also well priced and full of fresh flavor and value. It's also situated right on Campus Corner, which makes it a great hangout in the college scene. Dislikes: As previously mentioned, the place is always packed - this often causes the service to get behind. Wait time is significant on weekends and during special events. The place is better than most restaurants, but I'd still rank Mamaveca at the top for service and flavor. To be honest, though I know everybody raves about it, and I have always had good experiences there, I have never been overwhelmed with the flavor of any one particular item, and for this reason (as well as the slow service) it's just not top notch for me. Pepe's is very good, but it lands just shy of greatness. You'll always have a good time there, but expect a wait, and don't expect top notch, 5 star flavor.

I'm still a fan, especially since Pepe Delgados has a lot of vegetarian entrees to suit those of us who don't eat meat anymore. My dad took my husband & me here today for lunch, and between the three of us we had a veggie burrito (my dad's) and the veggie tacos (my husband & me). The entrees definitely aren't low fat (have cheese & sour cream) but I'm sure they'd make them lower fat if you asked (or vegan). Of course this made them delicious as well, though. The hot salsa isn't TOO hot, but it definitely does tingle the tongue. The mild is exactly what it's called. I'll be back here on my next visit! Their new location is nice, too. Maybe not quite as big as their old location, but it's different inside (up & down stairs now). It's just down the street, so never fear!

Don't mess around - if you're in Norman and in the mood for Mexican food, go here. Warning: there is no wait staff. You order at the counter when walk in and they bring you the food. There is a patio out back. There is a soda fountain where you can get free refills. There is a bar area with pretty good draft beer (Dos Equis Amber, Sierra Nevada, etc), and you can eat there if you want service. There are tvs at the bar to catch some sports. During lunch this place gets busy; I recommend having one person claim/stake out a table while the other person orders for both of you. They have a pretty large vegetarian menu.

This place is the best authentc mexican food in the metro area. It isn't tex-mex so don't expect crappy queso and nasty refried beans. Everything is cooked in house and delicious. We always get the pork burrito loco with a side of homemade black beans. The chips and salsa aren't complimentary but the charge for them is minimal and they come with hot or mild salsas all made in house. We always get the hot. The specials are always great and fridays are homemade tamales. We've been coming here for years and its always really good!!

This is the best Mexican on Campus Corner for sure. For what you get, the prices are very good, and the atmosphere is really great. This is one of my "go to" places for lunch since campus corner is so close to my part of campus.

Pepe Delgados is a campus corner institution. It's been around for at least fifteen years and you can't beat it for consistently good food in ample quantities at reasonable prices. My grandparents and I ate here for lunch recently and had enormous amounts of food for a (pre-tip) total of $16.75- you can't beat that with a stick. I stay with the veggie burrito and am always content- fresh ingredients, a tasty verde sauce on the side, and enough food for two meals. Absolutely delicious and no animal fat either. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, this isn't Mexican food drenched in Velveeta! Staff is always friendly and helpful. At lunch the place is usually packed but the line moves quickly and seating generally opens up without too much of a wait. Parking on campus is sometimes a hassle but the food here is so good that it's worth any inconvenience.

Pepe's serves some of the best Mexican food in Oklahoma. Their chips are fresh and have seasoned salt on them that compliment any of their fresh salsas nicely. I typicaly order chicken burritos which come with fresh avocado sauce, onions, and cilantro. My husband tends to order the enchiladas which come with rice and beans. Anything on the menu is great. Check the board for daily specials!

Pepe's is so close to work, and I love the food. It's fresh, and I enjoy trying out new things from time to time.

Emilio is fantastic. He has the tex-mex stuff, but also a range of daily specials that are true Mexican food. Fish Tacos (Saturdays and Mondays), Pork in Green Sauce (Wednesdays), Chicken & Rice (Thursdays), and Tamales (Fridays) are the best dishes available in Norman

I miss Pepe Delgados so much. The food is excellent. As a vegetarian, you gotta have the veggie burrito or nachos with black beans. It is almost the case that I'll find an excuse to fly to Norman just to eat at Pepe Delgados. If one could marry a restaurant, I would've done it 10 yrs ago and have had 5 kids by now.

I've been going to Pepe's ever since they opened and the food is still incredible. I haven't lived in OK for the last 7 years, but I return to Pepe's every time I'm home. The food remains excellent quality and completely consistent. Delicious, fresh and YUM! My favorites: Camarones a la Diablo, Red Snapper Veracruz, Cheese Enchiladas, Veggie Tomales, Veggie Burrito Loco. Now, I'm getting hungry.

This is, by far, the best Mexican food around. This is not "Tex-Mex". There are plenty of places to get that. If you want fresh, bursting-with-flavor Mexican, eat at Pepe's. Emilio has 3 specials each day and if you want authentic flavors, I'd suggest picking from the specials. The menu items are great also, but he uses many of the menu items to compromise for American tastes. Full bar service...you can have that Negro with lunch!

The best Mexican food that I have ever eaten. When I lived in Norman, I was a regular at Pepe's. I recommend everything on the menu. Super Nachos are the best.

I used to eat here about twice a week in college. Pretty much everything I've had here is awesome. The food here is different from other OK mexican restaurants, but in a good way. It has a fresher feel and there isn't chili con carne on anything. While probably not totally authentic, the food is far closer to "real" mexican food than tex-mex (which I also love). The burrito loco is a great choice, as are the loco nachos. They also have great enchiladas, tacos etc. The best choices are the daily specials which include chicken mole, tamales and chile rellenos. The specials are usually your best bet. I love this place.

Great authentic Mexican food... and everything there tastes fresh. Highly recommended for anyone who lives in or is visiting Norman and needs a great place to eat. The Plato Mexicano, Burrito Loco and the Pollo Rostido are my favorite selections, but I've never tried anything at Pepe's I didn't like.

Consistently good food and service make this one of the best restaurants in Norman. Whether you order something as basic as the veggie nachos or one of their daily specials, you can expect the food and service to be superlative.

Good place to eat lunch. The seasoning of the beef meat doesn't hit me with a lot of flavor so I have to add some of their green salsa to my tacos. Decent place for Norman but very average compared to other Mexican restaurants I have eaten such as Mi Cocina.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
