Diabetics must resist their temptations when dining at Applebee's. Most of the items on Applebee's menu is either stuffed with sodium or sugar. You must be extra careful and pick low-sugar and low-sodium diet at Applebee's if you are diabetic.
Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for Diabetics:
If you are starting your meal with appetizers then make sure you skip the Classic Buffalo sauce, Honey BBQ sauce, and sweet Asian Chile sauce on your wings order. It is highly recommended to skip the appetizers if you are dining alone and instead build your appetizer keeping nutrition in check. Among the steaks, you must stay away from the Applebee's Riblets platter as well as Bourbon Street Steak at all costs. Shrimp 'N Parmesan Sirloin is also not recommended. Skip the sandwiches, wraps, and tacos as well. Desserts may be tempting but it is recommended to avoid them at Applebee's for their high sugar content. All the beverages except Iced Teas must be avoided as well to control your sugar intake.
Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.
Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure
Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.
Food Suggestions for High Blood Pressure at Applebee's
Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.
Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol
If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. So, skip those items at Applebee's.
Food Suggestions to Maintain Cholesterol Level at Applebee's
Not sure why the reviews for this place are so low but I had a great time here. Great service, delicious food, a bit pricey but aside that I loved my visit. I tried their sampler, which was great (huge portions) and the salmon (very good fish but veggies were average), my boyfriend had the ribs and fries with slaw, he really enjoyed them and was full with half a rack to take home. Price with tip was around $50 which surely wasn't cheap for lunch/early dinner, but I did really like my experience.

I'm literally at applebees right now and we are the only people here. We ordered the lunch specials. So my wife said no tomatoes and cucumbers, apparently still got cucumbers. I had a chicken tortilla soup with mine and it had cucumbers in mine. I asked the lady if they came with cucumbers, she said yes. I had this soup the other day I'm pretty sure chicken tortilla does not have cucumbers in them. She was lazy and didn't want to fix anything.

Soooo, I don't think there is an issue with this Applebee's location specifically. We have always had great service in Norman. I think there is just a problem with the whole Applebee's menu. The food is seriously just a little better than a microwave dinner. The menu is way too large.. With too many pages. I just wish they would simply it with some core specialty items. Applebee's has nothing that set is apart from all the other chain restaurants. Examples: Red Robin: burgers, Olive Garden: pasta, Chilies: chicken strips and fajitas . Not to mention all the great non-chain places to eat. Good luck Applebee's in this very competitive restaurant business.

Horrible service. It took them at least 3 min to come over and set us in an empty restaurant. Then we sat at our table for at least 7-10 min with no waiter coming over. There were at least 6 employees talking around the bar area, and there couldn't have been more than 5 tables with people at them. The same thing happened to us about 5 years ago, but we thought that we'd give it another try. We will never make that mistake again.

Service has never been good here and we have only gone maybe a handful of times. Not only is the food really bad it is way over priced. Will not be going back.

I echo the sentiment from another reviewer by saying that I'm not sure why the reviews of this place are so low. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food was consistent in what I've had at most Applebee's over the years, which is not over-the-top Gordon Ramsey style entrees yet not bland either. The portion size for my chicken freshcado entree was sufficient and filling. This entree was on the 2-for-$20 menu, which I felt was a good bargain. The price for two entrees and one beverage (I ordered coffee) came to $27 with the tip, which was very reasonable. A pretty good place to stop in if you are passing through town or want a break from shopping at Sooner Mall.

Just like the other guy, when we saw every other place full and this place empty on a friday night, I said "never mind lets go somewhere else", but we opened and door and regretted it the entire time. there were 5 table of people and the bartender was so lazy she didn't want to seat us. While waiting on our food there was an awkward waiter that was doing bar tricks at another table. I think he was trying to be entertaining but it was very awkward. The sampler was cold when we got it, so much so the mozzarella sticks wouldnt even stretch. I asked for mac and cheese with my ribs and my boyfriend asked for mushrooms and shrimp on his steak. I got always save boxed mac and cheese and he got onions instead of mushrooms, which he was charged for. i sent my side back and instead of offering to replace it since my meal came with 2 sides i got a "well we didn't charge you the extra $.99 uncharge.food was bland. After all the horribleness the bill was $60...Im just thankful i didn't get food poisoning, but because this place reminded me exactly of the moving Waiting (look it up) I won't go back ever.

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the service was nice. As for the food, flavorless. Completely overpriced. I would have preferred going to hollies or Texas Roadhouse for the price I paid and could have ate mcdonalds and been more satisfied on taste. ( I don't eat mcdonalds. I hate it) Definitely won't be going back..

We were traveling through and stopped in for a late lunch (Friday around 1:00 PM). We were seated promptly, but then had to wait at least five minutes for someone to come by and take our order despite the fact that they didn't appear to be particularly busy. Our server was friendly enough, but not enough to overcome the waits and having to, on more than one occasion, hunt down a server to get silverware or plates. Once we finally got our check and I gave my credit card, the waiter returned with just a single copy of the receipt, the guest copy, not the merchant copy which includes the space for a signature. Oh, and he didn't even bring a pen with it. I should also mention that the restaurant was generally dirty looking with many areas of the floor in obvious need of sweeping up. Overall, a very disappointing experience, far below what I've been accustomed to at other Applebee's locations.

Destinee (yes, not destiny... but with two 'e's) was by far... the worst. server. ever. I know we sat down with three children. But there was nobody else in your area... and for us to have to ask for menus. And then for you to talk to to another waiter while taking our order... Oh wait, the wait for us to actually make that order. The wait in general. For everything. Destinee. You need a lesson on waiting tables. I almost went to the back and grabbed the flipping food myself. P.S. I didn't just yelp this - I did take the customer survey. You think I won some money too?

Gone way south over the last few years. Applebee's used to be my go to restaurant in Norman, but starting about 4 years ago, it began to go downhill fast. I used to just LOVE their chicken fried steak with garlicified red mashed potatoes. I'd swear it was the best chicken fried steak around. Those days are long gone. Likes: Once upon a time they had great food, and there are still remnants of this in places. Dislikes: It almost seems like they are trying to cut costs by using inferior quality ingredients these days. The atmosphere has also depleted - nobody is ever there anymore, and the interior is beginning to need upgrades to stay competitive. Service has also gone down, and the quality of servers had decreased while wait times have increased. They are often understaffed despite rarely being busy. They also carry some of the worst, lowest quality salads at some of the highest prices amongst similar restaurants. In a nutshell, Applebee's has fallen from grace. It was once a 4 star chain, but its service and food quality have both dropped significantly while prices have risen.

Polite, easy to order and good food. Everything I ordered was gluten free & the waitress Kaitlyn or Caitlyn took my order by phone. She was knowledgeable about gluten free and happy to offer suggestions. Order was ready quickly after we arrived & the ambiance was comfortable, relaxed and friendly. Thanks guys :-)

When I told the hostess we would be needing a table for 8, she acted like it would be a huge inconvenience for her. So I waited a few minutes for her to start to set it up, then I turned around and left. The place wasn't that busy, and they had plenty of tables available.

I went for a quick bite to eat before I had to pick up my dogs. I sat down and waited for about 5 minutes, no one came to see if I wanted to order anything or give me a menu. I looked around and saw a couple workers puting the utensils and napkins together for future customers. I was going to try to get their attention until I saw one of them licking his fingers and then handling the utensils and napkins. I am not exactly sure what he was touching but I can tell you I will NEVER go there again and I will be sure to tell EVERYONE I know not to go there either. DISGUSTING!!!

About Applebee's
Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.
