Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Went for dinner yesterday. If you want good ambiance, forget this place. The rug really needs a change. The food was ok. I had the chicken florentine which was too tangy for me with the lemon sauce. My husband did like his huge sirloin steak. All entrees are served with bread (it was ok), salad (soaked with vinegar) , ravioli (which was just a lump of dough) and spaghetti (which was so horrible).

We walked into a 1971 time capsule complete with failing popcorn ceiling, live pets in the lobby and a Brady Bunch fireplace. I'm ok with a dated ambience, but when they haven't dusted since the 70's, that interrupts my appetite. I believe they kept the lights low so it wouldn't be too apparent. Let's get to the menu. High prices at first glance, however we were excited to hear we could order half orders of the entries because the other local Italian restaurants don't allow this. We ordered fried chicken and chicken Parmesan, and the kids had fettuccini and spaghetti (half-orders). As an appetizer, the served up a heaping pile of bland spaghetti, oily salad, dough-y ravioli and nasty meatballs. Funny thing - they said our appetizer portion spaghetti would also serve as the kids spaghetti meal. Our daughter wasn't too happy about getting a mangled pile of spaghetti after we sectioned out our portions. It went from disappointment to comical. We went to pay and were told they added a $4 penalty each for half orders. $60 for lunch. A very odd, bad lunch. We said goodbye to the live pets, stray cats outside, and laughed all the way to the car.

I was told by a client, I need to do Italian while in McAlester, OK and was recommended to this location. I was craving just like a Meatball sandwich but was ready to do pasta if it wasn't on the menu. I walk in for one, and was seated. This is a family style restaurant...no single portions unless you order of the kids menu!!! Also if your craving wine, like I was, nope beer, wine coolers and regular beverages. I ordered the kid's spaghetti and OMFG flavorless!!! Garlic bread, rubbery and flavorless. This place has a AAA approved sign, however I'm guessing AAA hasn't reviewed them in twenty to thirty years based on the decor. Oh yah...HOT!!! The temperature inside. I'm not for putting employees out of work but this place needs to be closed down.

Absolutely horrible. I used to think that it was hard to mess up italian food. This place figured out how. Salad was made of iceberg lettuce swimming in vinegar. Judging by the sogginess it's been swimming for a while. The ravioli resembled boulders of dough. And the meatball was more like clay ball. Although I only finished 1/3 of my dinner, I instantly felt 50 pounds heavier. The ambiance is that of a dungeon. The musky, moldy smell combined with outdated furniture and no lights makes an awful impression. Price of this experience was $16.00. They should pay people to eat there.

WORST food I've every had. The only good part of the meal was the cheese and banana pepper plate. Oh and the Iced Tea was good. This is such generic food. I am almost 100% positive I've had better Lean Cuisine's or Stouffers meals than what I got here. For the quality of food you should get paid to eat here instead of paying money.

If you are from out of town and just passing through McAlester and you hit here during lunch, I would suggest just keep on going. The service is good, but they are very proud of their pricing. Anytime you open up the menu (for lunch) and there are items on there for over $80.00, there is something wrong. For two, you wouldn't be able to get out of there for under $50.00 (at lunch)! As I said, for a nice sit-down dinner, it looks to have great potential, but for a quick (inexpensive) stop for lunch at a local establishment, just keep on going because this isn't it.

I actually like Gia Como's, and the owners might be Italian decent, but the food is from the Chicken Fried Steak region of Italy. The food is as Italian as the Muenster Cheese & Ande's Mints they serve, and much better than Chef Boyardee's version. The food is good for McAlester, just not Italian. Italians do not serve Iceberg lettuce drenched in white vinegar & vegetable oil. Italian restaurants have things like prociutto di parma, parmigiano reggino, olives, mortadella, rosetto, pesto, fresh things like fish, mozzarella, basil, oregano, lemons on some dishes, fresh fruit, different kinds of peppers, tomatoes, produce that is in season, and BREAD (not the funny cake stuff from Walmart heated up that Gia Como's serves). Italian cuisine is so wide and varied, but Gia Como's has missed every region possible; except the lesser known "Fritta Pollo Regione". They do have great fried chicken at Gia Como's; really, the food is tasty, just not Italian, and really expensive for what you're getting, where your getting it, and how it is being served. Imagine an Italian restaurant without wine, without anything fresh, without anything remotely from Italy, and you have Gia Como's, Pete's, and the Isle of Capri. The topper is the "lamb fries", I've never heard of any Italian eating sheep testicles, let alone breaded & fried (what part of Italy is that from.... the same chicken fried steak region?). Wash some fried sheep's balls down with your bottomless Dr. Pepper, and finish it off with some Wisconsin made Alsatian cheese and you have the best Oklahoma Italian cuisine (at least that's what you're told this is). Ask for a Cappuccino or Espresso when you visit...it will stump them for hours. Ask for lemon cello, for a gelato, for a bottle of mineral water...they have no idea what you are talking about, but you are sure to get something in Styrofoam to take home.
