We frequent McAlester often...and normally try and make this one of the places to eat..either they had an off day or they have changed up things and not for the better. The steak was thin...over cooked and a lot of grisel. My husband had the catfish..he said it didn't taste like it normally does was ok but not as good as it normally is, sweet potato usually comes with brown sugar but I had to ask for it...not a big deal but just noted. The service for the most part was good, plenty of tea refills. The deal is when you spend this much on a meal you expect consistency and you should be able to expect good. I think I will stick with Chili's from now on....:(

Completely loved our experience. The food was enjoyable and the interior was fun. The service was very helpful and accommodating. We started with the peel and eat shrimp. Good. I ordered the blackend catfish crawfish etouffe. It was very flavorful, with low-medium spiciness. There is another name for it. My cousin had the blackened chicken which was very moist and tender. Other orders included the fried catfish and the other ettouffe. Everyone was very satisfied with their entree. I was a little concerned by my other meal choices when there was an abundance of fried food on the table but we dug in. The hush puppies, okra, and corn fritters were all very tasty. I tried a few of each. I am a hush puppy fan, but I really think that they work better together. We bagged up a lot of leftovers and talked about returning. Visiting Windmill Catfish Cove was a great experience. I look forward to returning.

Okay, I had a five star experience but was let down by the ribs. I like the atmosphere, service and prices. The truly only real fantastic reason to enter this business is the catfish, fries and hush puppies. Okra, and fritters are worth while too.... There plenty of other options I haven't tried...I would come back tomorrow if I wasn't traveling through, lord willing I'll be back in the future.

Well not a lot of choices seemed to be busy so I like catfish well see the place was clean very very very casual or possibly fine dinning for this area ha ha . I stared with a biscuit and honey and some vinegary cole slaw both were good the flavor we're good nice warm biscuit with honey yum. The entrees arrived and my catfish looked good first bite.... It was good! Nice crispy cornmeal crust and tender moist inside. Jim had the fried chicken tenders they had a nice crunch too a different batter then the catfish no cornmeal They were good. The hush puppies were some of the best I've ever had and the corn fritters were decent. For desert I opted for the Lipitor since everything we just ate was fried ;) probably the best place to eat in the area so give it a try!

Good catfish, and all the sides that come with it. They have steaks also but I always get the fish. Plus all the old stuff they have displayed is nice to look at

Came here because of great Yelp reviews...well deserved! Okra tastes like it was just picked from the garden this morning and catfish fresh from the pond! Traveling through McAlester today for the first time...what a "find". So good we'll probably stop here for lunch again tomorrow on my way back through McAlester! One good thing to remember: they are only open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. When asked what they do on the other days, the waitress said, "We go fishin'"...honest!

Stopped here on my way to DFW from northeast OK. I was craving catfish and looked this place up. It's not exactly easy to find because my GPS said it was located at the new burger place on the northbound side of the highway. Regardless, I found it and was very well taken care of by the wait staff, even on off hours (2PM), and the catfish came out hot and NOT greasy! Best I've had in a while. I will definitely be back.

This is one of my favorite places to eat at in McAlester. The frog legs and the gumbo is the best I've ever had.

We loved everything we ordered. First, they bring out biscuits (butter is on the table, honey came with the warm biscuits). They were amazing. I don't know how much butter they must use to bake them, and it's probably best that way. I think they might have been the best biscuits I've ever had. We got a half order of onion rings ($2.99), and it was huge. The onion rings were tasty. My husband and I split a 3-piece catfish dinner (comes with 2 sides for $11.99). The fried catfish is definitely the best fried catfish I've had. The dinner came with hush puppies and corn fritters -- both yummy. We ordered french fries and beans for our sides, both good. My kid got chicken (a breast cut in half and fried) with french fries. She thought it was OK, but I thought it was great. Unfortunately, she compares everything to Arby's, which she somehow thinks is awesome. To top it off, I got cobbler + ice cream, and it was also very good. Wait service was so great we made sure to leave a big tip to thank her. The decor is kitschy. We'd definitely stop here if headed through town again.

We were traveling through McAlester looking for a place to break for dinner. We happened to see the red neon catfish on the building... Windmill Cove. Great stop! Cute place with downhome hospitality. The butter biscuits were excellent! Fried catfish, hushpuppies, okra, chicken fried steak, onion rings were all wonderful and all served steaming hot. The baked catfish and crawfish étouffée were tasty, and the menu offered a variety of seafood dishes.. Even frog legs!! Fresh brewed tea!! Service was quick and efficient. We will surely visit again. NOTE: Only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Would love to try them but they use peanut oil and my son has peanut allergy...

I've been here w/ my family on two occasions- the first time was for the all-you-can-eat catfish dinner last year. The meal came with hush puppies, corn fritters and a side. I also ordered a salad to start. The salad was a basic iceberg lettuce salad w/ tomatoes, onion and some cheddar cheese. Their ranch dressing was homemade and really good. I totally enjoyed it and wish more places would make a salad just like that. The fish was extremely hot and fresh and DELISH! I loved it- I also got fries with it and they were really crunchy and the perfect accompaniment along with the hush puppies and corn fritters. We left extremely full and totally impressed. When we went again this year, they no longer offered the all-you-can-eat option so I ordered a 2-piece catfish dinner w/ the same sides. The fish was just as delicious as I remembered! We also started w/ a half-order of onion rings. It was a huge amount of rings! We weren't able to finish them all and there were 4 of us. The breading was really light and flaky- I highly recommend them!
