Our usual Friday foursome decided to try Twelve Oaks Restaurant tonight. None of us had ever been. We had heard mixed reviews. Starting with the appetizer... Stuffed mushrooms. Plain button mushrooms with a soggy bread-based filling and topped with a bland, imitation parmesan cheese. They had a pretty good flavor, but for the price, they were nothing special. Next, the salads... Large, sloppily cut, wet romaine lettuce with the blue cheese dressing poured over the top. With a slightly sweet, off-putting flavor and hardly any blue cheese in the dressing. It was clearly a commercial off-brand available in gallons from their food service truck. The caesar dressing was very creamy, also with an unusual sweetness, drenching the same romaine lettuce. Commercial-grade, shredded parmesan cheese and boxed croutons for garnish. Finally, the steaks and lobster... Although we ordered steamed lobster tails, the curled edges were almost crunchy due to overcooking under direct heat. My guess is they sat under the warming element of the service window for far too long. Only the middle was succulent and tender. The old-school paprika covering the top of each piece of lobster was almost expected from this type of establishment, which caters to the non-foodie, older crowd. When we saw the bill, our jaws dropped at the "market" price for these two small, 7oz, poorly executed crustaceans. The nightly special was a 22oz Prime, Dry-Aged, Bone-in Ribeye. Having had many of these steaks at many steakhouses within 500 miles of OKC, I was eager to order theirs as it is my absolute favorite cut of beef. I prefer my steaks medium-rare. Having cooked professionally for several years, I can easily tell the properly cooked temperature of a steak with the press of a finger. My finger was telling me medium immediately upon examination. This was confirmed after cutting into the eye with the dull-bladed steak knife. Then I double checked the steak knife. It wasn't as dull as I thought. The cut of meat, priced at over $60, was just not cutting easily. I took the first two bites and was met with a texture more similar to top sirloin rather than "Prime" "Dry-aged" ribeye. So I cut into the bone-side of the eye. Same thing. Cut into the other side toward the fat cap. Same texture and toughness. Not only was the steak tough, but the kind of toughness that leaves your jaw tired after the forth or fifth mouthful. Chewing and chewing. No dry-aged flavor to speak of whatsoever. The quality of the beef tasted no better than any chain supermarket offering. Dry-aged beef is easily identifiable in flavor, yet this steak had none of it. Not to mention the sirloin-like grain and consistency. This was absolutely not a prime, dry-aged steak, or I got the worst piece of the steer. I could only suffer through about 8 bites before having to stop due to jaw muscle fatigue. Additionally, all steaks are served with a mixture of Worcestershire and steak sauce covering the bottom of the plate. There is no way to escape every bite of beef being covered with this cheaply made "house" sauce. If you serve good beef, you shouldn't need a highly-flavored, overpowering sauce pooled under each cut of meat. When the server came to remove my plate, she looked puzzled at the amount of steak left on the surface. I leaned over and quietly let her know, out of courtesy, that the steak was very tough and barely edible. She told me she would alert the manager. Sure enough, the manager came over within a couple of minutes with an insincere apology. She offered a free dessert to compensate for my poor experience. Then she began to say that the "chef" had tasted the steak from my plate and could find nothing wrong with it. After letting her know that I didn't appreciate being called a liar, she then proceeded to call me a b**** and offered a small discount off the price of my meal. My other dinner guests were shocked at her lack of honesty and professionalism. When we looked at the bill, the price dropped from $61 to $50. Still highly overpriced even if I had eaten the entire steak. Needless to say, we will never be returning to Twelve Oaks. A tip to all you food service folks out there... If a customer complains, don't argue or make excuses or call them names. Simply apologize and offer a gesture of good will (comp) based on the customer's perception of the issue. Leave your feelings out of it. The customer's perception is their reality regardless of how you feel.

This Victorian home, moved from Guthrie to it's current location on a country road in Edmond, is a hidden gem. My husband had known about Twelve Oaks for awhile but we happened across and article recently and decided it was time to try it out. It's off the beaten path, so it's not like you drive by and take a mental not to try it sometime. My father in law joined us and we headed out to see what Twelve Oaks is all about. It was a cold, bleary evening, the wind was gusting and the rain was falling...but the house was so warm and welcoming and we were seated immediately. As my father in law said...it was relaxing and comfortable. The wine list is pretty decent and we ordered a bottle of Merlot. Hubby and I had the fillet and shrimp special...the steaks were fantastic! The shrimp was so so compared to the steak. Dad has the salmon and said it was quite good. The loaded baked potato casserole was great! Service is impeccable. No empty water glasses, dishes are removed as you finish and anything you need is there in seconds of asking for it. There was also a piano player that added to the ambiance. We arrived at 6 PM and by the time we left at 7:30ish the place was packed! This is a great place for a private dinner party and they even have a private dining room for two...great for a romantic dinner for two or to propose! HINT HINT GUYS! As I sat there the decor and comfort reminded me of a restaurant back East that used to serve forma tea during the Christmas season...I hope Twelve Oaks will consider starting such a tradition here. Worth the money and definitely a great location!

It is sad for me to say my last two visits were marred only by the mediocre food. I love this place---the old house and country setting. Wait staff is wonderful. Unfortunately, it seems the quality of food has dropped considerably from what it once was (like 15-20 years ago). I wish it wasn't so, but no one in our party of 10 could express complete satisfaction with their entrees from our visit yesterday. The cocktails and desserts were good! Salads were adequate but the Caesar salad was non-interesting. The fish was dry, the pork and chicken were declared tough and the lamb chops were rated on the fatty side. The long-grain side of rice had merit. The lone satisfied diner among us had a ribeye steak. Either kitchen prep or initial food quality needs to step up. Again, can't fault the service; it was excellent and the food was delivered quickly. Prices are reasonable

We have been to many upscale steak restaurants, but we always come back to Twelve Oaks. It is our favorite. Love the quiet and lovely atmosphere. We have been eating there for at least 15 years. We have never had a bad experience. Food is excellent. Service impeccable. Appetizers and dessert are priced separately but salad and choice of side is priced with the entrée. Excellent value. Never disappointed. Just a tip. Reservations are recommended. Ask to be served by Christy.

Best steakhouse in central Oklahoma -- hands down. Romantic charm and reasonable prices in the middle of a handsome rural acreage. (But just minutes east of downtown Edmond!) Go. Trust me. This place totally rocks.

Beautiful location, Victorian style house NE of Edmond. Friendly and professional staff and I couldn't have been happier with my meal. I had the 8oz filet with shrimp, potato casserole, house salad. The steak was great, med rare like I asked and as tender as any steak I've had. The shrimp were large and sweet, nicely cooked and not tough at all. The cup of casserole a nice change up from the baked potato I thought of ordering. I was with a party of 5 and everyone else was happy with their meals also. The table sampled several of their desserts and both were very good although honestly everyone was full. We had a server and another waitress at our table during the meal and no drink glass was ever empty or need unanswered. Now I'm comfortable in local burger places as well as 5 star restaurants and I would compare Twelve Oaks with Morton's Steakhouse in San Francisco for quality of food and service. It's a special place for special times and you should try it.

Ok, so I had heard some pretty good things about this place, and given that it's only a half mile away from my house, I figured it was about time to try it out. The setting is really great. It's an older farmhouse on top of a hill, and they have done some christmas style light stringing to make it stick out. There's a gazebo out front, and adequate parking. The staff was all very friendly, and greeted us at the door with our reservation waiting. Our table was ready right away, and we were seated. The menu had a full regimen of steaks, pork chops, some salmon, crab, and lobster with some pasta dishes. The appetizer menu was pretty small and contained stuffed mushrooms, crab legs, cocktail shrimp, escargot, and a couple of other items. We ordered a sampler appetizer. The stuffed mushrooms I would have given a 9 out of 10. They were pretty good. The cocktail shrimp were also good. The crab legs were so-so. They had either been frozen or overcooked. They weren't tender. The meat was kind of rubbery and dryish but didn't taste bad aside from the texture problem. The Caesar salad I would have given about a 5 out of 10. The salad seemed fresh enough, but the dressing was bland and it was not memorable. I did ask and discovered that despite charging ~$40 for their steaks, they are choice, not prime beef. I found it very disappointing that a fancy restaurant charging prime prices was serving lower quality meat. So I did what I always do when surprised in that fashion. I ordered the ribeye, because it is the juiciest most tender cut. I ordered it medium, and it came out cooked properly. There didn't appear to have been much done in terms of preparation on the steak. It was pretty plain. The steak was a good sized piece, but not overly thick, probably 3/4 in. The flavor of the beef was ok. There was a lot of fat in my particular piece, and gristle, and it wasn't exceptionally tender for a choice steak, but all in all it was about a 6 out of 10. I ate 2/3 of it, and wasn't motivated by exceptional taste to finish it or take the rest home. My wife ordered the "surf and turf". It looked good when it came out. The choice filet my wife requested at medium came out rare (shiny raw in most of the center). It was about an inch and a half thick. I didn't try it, but my wife said it needed something in terms of flavor. She ate most of the lobster, and I tried that. I have to say, it was the worst lobster I've ever had. The taste was bad, the texture was rubbery, and it was really expensive ($78 for her plate). The baked potato casserole was also fairly bland and required some salting to help it out. So the worst part was that despite the quality of the food being middle of the road, the prices were very premium. We drank water and had no dessert, split the appetizer and got out of there at $160 after tip. I don't mind paying that kind of money for a meal, but when I do, I have certain expectations of the food, and they were far from being met for the price. The service was great, I loved the setting, everyone was prompt and friendly, but the food, which is the most important part was pretty sub par. If you go, I would recommend not ordering any of the crab/lobster. Stick to something indigenous to Oklahoma, and go for the atmosphere, not for the food. If you want really good steak, look elsewhere. I think they really need to hire someone with culinary expertise to help them out, and shift gears a bit. Maybe they could cook pies and pastries and sell them during the day and go with more of a farmhouse theme, rather than the dim lit swanky restaurant with bowties feel they have going on.

My favorite place, with wife or girlfriend.... Haven't had a bad meal yet and staff seems to sense when it's a special evening and goes out of the way to keep, or make. it so. Thanks

Ambience was romantic, old fashioned, and sweet. We went here on Mother's Day and it was wonderful. I ordered the lamb chops and they were tender and delicious. Although it's expensive, it's a great romantic restaurant to take your loved ones. We were seated right in front of the piano and singer. Absolutely beautiful voice! I would highly recommend this restaurant! It's also situated in a rural area far away from anything else. You take a long stretch of road to get there. Old charm written all over.

This beautiful facility has a great setting and is fantastically restored. The old house is regal and the grounds are nicely landscaped and well maintained. We joined some friends for dinner. We were seated promptly (make reservations). The service was prompt and impeccable yet relaxed. There was constantly a bus boy at the table refilling drinks and removing plates. We had ribeye, filet, KC strip, and shrimp scampi along with all the sides of salad, veggies, and potatoes. One of our party ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer and it was very tasty. Overall the dinner was quite nice, steaks were good, sides were good, they have delicious bleu cheese dressing. We also had good house wine by the glass. The dessert tray was varied and my Brandy ice was mighty fine. We didn't have any glitches with the dinner other than my steak was a little overcooked, but it was still juicy and acceptable. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

Tucked away in the Edmond countryside is this little jewel. The obvious beauty of its surroundings is only matched by the authentic and hospital ambiance once inside. I greatly appreciated the prompt nature of the staff and never once had an empty water glass. The tomato basil soup was exceptional and the main course of steak and vegetables were amazing. Dessert was a wonderful light apple walnut cake with ice cream followed up with a kind "can we get you anything else?". My dining experience was top notch. I can't wait to come back for seconds.
