The sushi was prepared great and the tempura chicken was amazing. My only complaint is the environment.. There was a child running around yelling and sitting at a booth watching a tablet and the workers were speaking in a foreign language loudly between each other which was distracting to enjoying my food. The restaurant was very clean, however it was very warm inside that day. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for a good place to go enjoy some great sushi, but the environment could be improved and it would make this place 5 stars.

Surprisingly great Asian food for a small Oklahoma town. I was just driving through on a business trip and thought is give it a shot. The lunch Bento box was a great deal! Check it out if you are in the area and want some quality food. Not a great "date night" atmosphere if you are looking for that. I wasn't at the time, so it was perfect.

For a Japanese place amongst many southern fast food chains, this does alright. Came here expecting mediocrity and was pleasantly surprised (This is Duncan after all). You get roughly 12 per order depending on the roll. I got the Breezy Roll and loved it. Beware of the Heart Attack 911. They don't core the jalapeño. Still tasty though. I can also recommend the Gulfport roll and my husband loved the Spice Girl.

Good take out as far as Duncan is concerned. The Chinese food is shockingly good for a Japanese restaurant. I mean, they're all Oriental cuisine, right? Embrace it. Sometimes with sushi you just need to close your eyes and not think about where the sausage is made, but Kyoto's sushi is decent! Just don't think about how far away you are from an ocean and it goes down fine. Kyoto loses points because I can't recommend dining in. The ambiance is near identical to the creepy diners down 81. Take out.

When I caught a glimpse of the Kyoto Japanese Restaurant while driving in Duncan, I thought I saw a mirage. Sushi? In Duncan, OK? Excited at the prospect of not having to drive an hour to Oklahoma City just to eat sushi, I immediately went there to give it a try. And to my immediate surprise and delight, it turned out to be really good! And very cheap...for sushi, anyway. They have some good lunch specials, that come with 2-3 rolls, soup, and salad. The rolls were really tasty, and the side orders were good, too. I also sampled their Sushi Deluxe, which is a nigiri sushi plate. Considering the fact that I was in Stephens County and not the Ginza district of Tokyo, I was very pleased with the sushi portions. They also have curry and a number of cooked dishes on the menu for those of you out there who are still sushi-phobic (c'mon, my fellow Oklahomans -- live a little!). I was kind of disappointed that they don't have Japanese curry or even tamago (simple egg nigiri), but you know what, beggars can't be choosers. In the culinary wasteland of Stephens County/Grady County, there are no Japanese restaurants, so I'll take what I can get. Of course, compared to Japanese restaurants in a major city, it would not rank as high, so please keep that in mind. Still, I like it! I've eaten Kyoto's food several times, and I have to say the restaurant is a nice change of pace from the plethora of greasy fast food joints and all-you-can-eat buffets that populate the area. I highly recommend Kyoto for those of you who love Japanese food or are eager to try it for the first time.

Duncan, Oklahoma has sushi?!!! Yes and this place is legit and very good! I visit the Duncan, Marlowe, and Rush Springs area every year to visit my boyfriend's family and this past summer was the first time we stumbled upon this place. Kyoto is located on Highway 81 in the same shopping mall as Hastings and Johnny's. They have a great deal on lunch specials and they have bubble tea! All of the sushi rolls are delicious and their meals come with soup and salad. For anyone who wants a change from the usual Sonic, Golden Corral, and Chinese Buffet, this is the place to go. Seriously, who needs Sushi Neko in Oklahoma City when you got this place just down the road?

Good Sushi in Duncan can happen! I had the caterpillar role and it was awesome! I love sushi and was very impressed with how yummy it was here. Waitresses were pushy with ordering but overall I was happy with food and prices are very reasonable.

Don't be fooled by this restaurant's humble appearance and surroundings. We were in town recently for a local horse show and chose it based on the reviews here. My family likes checking out great, locally owned places when we travel. Wow - we had the edamame, gyoza and 6-8 different rolls of a great variety and loved them all!! Easily rivals the quality at Sushi Neko in Oklahoma City. Extremely nice staff, so-so service. Great find. We will be back.

Just moved to Duncan little over a week ago. Passed by here and decided to check it out after hearing a few good reviews around town and from coworkers. I'm glad I did I found the prices and food very reasonable and quite tasty. You diffidently will get plenty of good food here for your buck. Staff is very friendly. Nice little gem here :)

I wasn't quite as over-the-top about Kyoto as others who graded it 5-stars. It WAS a decent choice given what we found available in Duncan, but compared with good sushi, this was just alright. We went for dinner one evening. Presentation was very nice, and the fish was fine, but the nori wrapping the rolls seemed a bit tougher than I've had and the rolls in general seemed dry, a bit bland. Can't quite put my finger on what it was, maybe it was the rice? Didn't try any tempura, sashimi - still lots on the menu I can't comment on. Miso soup was decent. The edamame wasn't done with sesame oil as I've had elsewhere. What I did like is that the edamame had the softer outside that you can actually slid off between your teeth (if you want to.) Some edamame have such a tough outer covering it doesn't come off. The atmosphere was low-lighting, but not romantic. There were a couple of TV's on tuned to different stations and there were no frills. I'm glad others found this to be a great place to eat.

Best place in Duncan! Only place for sushi. Only your staples really. They do have some specialty rolls too but they are all pretty much fried and or covered in tons of extras and sauces and crap to cater to local tastes I'm assuming. Salmon, snapper, tuna they have. Squid scallops yes. Mackerel no, which was a bummer. Really I'm just thrilled I can at least get some sushi here. I tried three different specialties rolls and I wasn't impressed with either. Tried the green dragon, the bomb bombs, and one other whose name eludes me at present but neither left a lasting impression on me. I'd like to see more fresh rolls like ones rolled with cucumber besides crab sticks (those were the only two they had). Place is cheap considering most sushi places I frequent. Still. Besides HEI this was the best place in Duncan.

Love this place. My husband always order the shaggy roll and I get the pink lady roll. The fodd is great especially considering it's in Duncan Oklahoma which is kind of a good food desert. Crab Rangoon is great and so are their egg rolls. I haven't gotten any ring I didn't like. Oh and the green tea ice cream is amazing!

In a city that adds soy sauce and salt to menu items before ever taking a bite and rejects self-serve yogurt places for not being all-you-can-eat venues, an otherwise modest restaurant like Kyoto becomes a bold, ambitious addition to Duncan's cultural landscape. Less a Japanese restaurant and more a Chinese restaurant with an extensive line of sushi rolls, Kyoto does way more right than a small town, Asian mix-and-match place has any business doing. My partner and I split the veggie tempura, which comes with a bowl of fried rice, and three rolls. Those four dishes + 2 sodas only came out to about $34 -- a steal in the sushi world. The Clearview roll, shrimp tempura, crawfish, and cream cheese roll deep fried and covered in a spicy mayo sauce was my favorite, but everything tasted pretty good. Suspiciously good for the region, honestly. As others have said, the restaurant's interior leaves much to be desired, but it's not so sketchy that eating in is out of the question. It looks more or less like a fast-food restaurant, and so if ambience is less important than simply getting a good meal, then the decor shouldn't be too much of an issue. The only real caveat I have about Kyoto is that sushi veterans looking for nigiri will find little to nothing for them. The sushi menu almost exclusively consists of makizushi, save for a $19.99 chirashi bowl, and while it's an appropriate menu for the majority of Duncan diners, sushi purists will likely be disapppointed. However, as an attempt to bring good sushi to a town lacking in culturally diverse options, Kyoto is a food oasis.

This place went down hill for me. The rice in the rolls were very soggie..The service annoyed me, the waitress was on her cellphone the entire time. I had to grab the other waiter to ask for drinks and to go boxes. I don't make many complaints but just drove me crazy that you don't check up on your tables. One couple left because they waited 15 minutes and no service. Honestly was only 3 tables filled. I think Duncan NEEDS variety in restaurants, I hope they turn things back the other way.
