Wonderful little place with great biscuits, menu, portions and service. It was a Sunday and we were driving out of Oklahoma City early in the morning. Probably about 40 miles east we just pulled into Checotah to check it out and maybe find a breakfast place. No signage on the interstate, so who knew. Very small rural agriculture town that probably has not changed much since the early 1900s you pass the interstate gas station array and then you roll into a quiet, cute, clean town. Sunday morning most all the businesses and eating places were closed and our hearts quickened when we saw a bunch of pick-up trucks parked in front of the Kountry Kookin restaurant. Standing out clearly as strangers we entered the one open room populated with old guys in overalls who were sitting where they sit every morning for their coffee and conversation. From our window seat we could overlook the town and take in the locals. Immaculately clean and as cute as their name inside. Menu had the regular breakfast offerings and lunch sandwiches and salads. Prices very reasonable. Our waitress was a polite and helpful as can be. I don't normally like southern biscuits as they are mostly over cooked, hard crusted and rather dry and flavorless to eat. I acquiesced to the waitress' suggestion and ordered one with my omelet and have been raving about that biscuit ever since and am doing so now. It was hot, flaky and soft, giving off the most yummy smell of freshness that you can imagine. I could not believe my luck as now I had finally found the biscuit that southerners so lovingly moon over when talking about "mama's meals." And now I got it. Hard to find, but this is the place to have that experience. And with their homemade jams.. I don't much remember that omelet that I ordered. What a great experience. And among the corny signs was one large one that read: "Please refrain from profanity." Yes, we were good in that way and I did not exclaim anything other than a moan of ecstasy when I tasted that biscuit even though I wanted to shout our how XXXXing good it was. If in the area, drop by. A real piece of Americana in the wasteland of plastic, disposable wrappers and monotonous fast food.

Really great place. Family owned. Great food. Large menu and excellent specials. Cash only. A must go in Checotah. I'm big on their chief salads or catfish! Anything there is wonderful and the owner is a doll. Great family restaurant.
