Amazing as always. The BEST Mexican food in town that actually tastes good and isn't bland and disgusting. LOVE this place. Thanks for having the best Mexican food ever abd great service. I've never got bad food or service here.

Something has changed. During the winter and Spring the food here was outstanding for a small Mexican quick food restaurant. The service was also exemplary. But then something happened. Many of the servers were gone and the good food took a turn for the worse. I was disenchanted on the last visit but I thought I'd try again today. Fajita meat so dry it's barely edible. Beans are still outstanding but something's amiss in old Monterey. Too bad, once upon a time I really enjoyed this place. Time to shop for a new regular hangout.

Holy Guacamole this place is bad. It's a chain so I thought, who can mess up an enchilada? They can!!! I got the fajita enchiladas (one steak and one chicken). I am a hearty eater and I can usually choke down anything without much complaining; but I couldn't chew whatever membrane was in my steak (yuck!). The chicken was almost as bad. The tortilla that wrapped this foreign object was dense and tasteless. I have had much better at Taco Bell. In all fairness, I live in San Antonio and the Mexican food doesn't get any better. The meal was $15 with one Corona. The only reason I didn't walk out was the waitress Samantha was a pleasure. I will never go back. Even for Samantha. I hope this helps. I would have taken a picture of the membrane but I didn't want to ruin your appetite.

I thought it was bad when we were seated and couldn't get in the bench because it was broken. Then as soon as we sat down, there was a dead fly on the table (come on people, wipe the tables down before seating people)...the food was not great: Taco Bell would have been better. Our waitress never refilled our drinks the entire time. I ordered a lunch special with a enchilada (okay), taco (bland) and tortilla chip dipped in queso that they called a tostada. Rice was okay, beans okay: nothing memorable. I was definitely surprised at the full parking lot; I guess the locals like this: I certainly didn't..

Went here on the recommendation of hotel staff, and was told this is the best Mexican food in town. If that is the case then this town is horribly deprived. I get the "Tex Mex" idea, but I've never been to another Tex Mex restaurant that gave me cowboy beans and fries with my entree. Steak Al Carbon was horrible. Instead of flank or skirt steak it was a cheap cut sirloin that wouldn't pass Appleby's quality checks. They only got 2 stars because of the prices, which are good, and the staff who were fairly nice folks.

As a local, ive only been here a couple times, and neither of those trips left me excited to return. This most recent trip really takes the cake though. After we were sat, it took 20 mins for the waitress to take our drink order. The place wasnt even half full. 20 mins after that, we asked for our queso for our chips that ended up coming out congealed and cold. We were afraid to say anything for fear of never seeing the queso again. A while later, our food came. My wifes order was completely wrong and mine was stone cold, but, hunger prevailed as did time. Refills were hit and miss. Mostly miss. We told her what drink we had, and it came back the opposite. Overall, the food isnt anything worth wasting your time describing. The only reason the locals eat here (myself included) is because the closest decent mexican place is in Tulsa, and thats more of a day trip. I want to give this place no stars, but am forced to give it one.

Guacamole, grilled tacos, enchiladas... it's the same story at most small Mexican food chains. The dishes all stem from a handful of ingredients and leave me taking two handfuls of antacids. The prices at Monterey's were good ($6.49 for an enchilada plate). The quality is exactly what you'd expect but go ahead and drink the water. It's average like everything else here.

I have never eaten here as I live in another state. But I ordered a gift card for someone's birthday and it was to have been mailed out. Got a purchase confirmation and an order number from Monterey's. Many days later I found out that he had never received it. I wrote to the email address that was included with the purchase confirmation and four days later have still not heard anything from them. At least the charge did not come through on my credit card, so I'm not out any money, but seems like a very sloppy way to do business. From the other reviews of Monterey's, maybe it's reflected in the food. UPDATE: Someone from Monterey's finally got back to me, apologized, and sent me two cards for what I paid for one card. The birthday gift I had in mind is now a month late, but double the value. For that reason, I've improved the rating I gave them. Next time I'm down in that area I'll stop in and give the food a try.

The is the most awful place I have ever been to. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and ended up with sour warmed salsa with chicken bits thrown on top and tortilla chips crumbled atop the chicken. It was so gross.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
