Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I can't believe some of the reviews state this is a good place to eat. Yuck..... I ordered chili rellanos.... they were a disgusting joke. The peppers had no real cheese inside but some kind of nasty runny cheese like sauce. Tasted gross. The beans were orange and tasted like they were from a can. The rice tasted like it came from a box. And it was'nt just the food that was bad....our waiter was pretty bad too. Alva seriously needs some new restaurants.

I usually get the cheesesteak burrito which is quite good. The white queso is very good but is a little pricy. The prices are fairly reasonable. Not everything is great tasting so it can be hit or miss. I for instance, as well as many of my friends and family, do not like their red sauce at all. They've updated the menu making it much easier to read now that most of the ads are gone.

Rather bland for Mexican food, but it wasn't terrible and the prices are decent. I didn't see anything dirty like the previous commenter said.

Had the Beef Nachos on the appetizer menu. Basic chips, beef and cheese. Salsa needs some work but overall I was pleased. The place was clean and busy.

This restaurant is as good as can be expected in a bump in the road town as is Alva America. The Carnitas are the best item that I have had. Not to say the rest of the menu is bad, it's just uninspired. I plan to return because it's one of the better restaurants in this town.

I always see a packed parking lot when I drive by so I thought it would be a good place to try. Boy, was I wrong! GROSS beef quesadilla. I can't be sure it was even beef. If zero stars was an option, that's what I would give them.

STAY AWAY FROM HERE.....unless you like a dirty place with hair in your food... A coworker and I decided to swing by here on a Saturday night to get some grub, it ended up being one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. It wasn't super busy, about half the tables full, but we had to wait about 10 minutes just for them to find a clean table for us. When we finally have a hostess lead us to a table, she wipes a shrimp tail from the seat and just has it sit there. Looking around under the table later, I also notice a set of silverware....Doesn't anyone clean between customers? When we finally order, we find out that, even though mixed drinks are on the menu, you can't order them. I guess they don't have the liquor license or something. Why they are still on the menu then is a very good question. Eventually the food comes, my coworker notices a large curly hair right off the bat. Luckily it was on a side dish, so he just leaves it alone and goes for the main course. Well, until halfway through, he finds another one. Upon that discovery, we both decide to stop eating the food, which didn't bother me much since my burritos were some of the worst I've ever had, just tasteless. Reminded me of the burritos you can buy in the freezer section of a grocery store. All in all, I was very glad to walk out of that place and that I didn't get sick from being there.

Great little Mexican joint! Try the Molcajete El Maya. It's great. We have been here several times, and the experience is always awesome.

I thought that the food was quite good. I have been here on 2 occasions while traveling to alva for work. The chips and salsa is addictive. The food seemed very fresh on both occasions. I got the chicken salad which was very good and the fried tacos things..i forget the name. The meat was seasoned really well and i was upset i couldn't finish my food. The only criticism I have is that one time our waiter wasn't the best and she forgot things and gave me a little sass. For inexpensive Mexican food I think this is a great spot to go.

Had a late lunch here on a driving trip. The food was fine, nothing special, but tasty. There was an issue with the pricing - i.e. lunch vs. dinner - we were told lunch prices were still valid, but "lunchtime" passed as we ate, and we were given a dinner price bill - quite a few dollars more. Got into a mini-argument, but a different server came over, gave us a "coupon discount" which set the price back a little bit below the lunch price. So, the issue was fixed, but there shouldn't have been an issue, given we asked and were told the prices for lunch would apply.

Meh. Margarita mix nothing special, a bit over sweet. On the rocks, wasn't even cold. Food, including salsa, meh. Waiter had to be reminded of everything, maybe he was new. Probably suits Oklahoma palate.

Got the lunch special, relatively bland. Taco was fine, but lacked fresh veggies. Chili rellano was soggy. Not even that cheap, plus they tried to charge us $3 extra for chips and salsa. Skip it, unless you're starving.

I am giving this place a four. First off the food is great. I was a little skeptical because we were in the middle of nowhere. I got the lunch combo 4, it included a chorizo burrito with beans and rice. There is a white cream sauce they put on top of the burrito that is delicious. Over the food was better than expected and tasted very authentic. My friend had the horchata and he said that was terrible. The meal comes with free chips and salsa. The reason why I gave this place a four because I asked the waiter if we were still on the lunch menu because it didn't state it. He said yes and it was 3pm when we got there. Anyways when I got the check it wasn't that price so the lady explained lunch was over at 2pm. How the menu is set up was deceiving and so she gave me 10% off which was about 80 cents. The lady even said the menu was deceiving. I suggested they make the menu clearer since I'm a business student. I would definitely come back here but was not impressed with the menu layout.

I'm giving this place a four based on the food and experience. When you are in the middle of no where (aka Alva Oklahoma) you can't expect too much of a selection when it comes to dining out. This place was surprisingly delicious. It was the middle of the day on a Monday so we were seated eight away, however; locals say it's hard to find parking on a Saturday night. Chips and salsa are complementary but not very good. The salsa was very bland and the chips came out of a bag. My friend ordered a horchata and said it was pretty awful. I ordered the Jam packed burrito and was surprised it came with French fries. The food came out fast! My burrito was huge and very yummy. The white, cheese sauce drizzled on top was very good as well. The fries were tasty as well even though I was still wigged out by them coming with the burrito. When we payed the bill up front my friend who had asked our waiter if the lunch special was still going on was charged the dinner price. That was a little annoying that our waiter didn't know when lunch was over. All in all, if you find yourself in Alava and you're craving Mexican food (and French fries!) stop by this place...unless it's a Saturday night.
