Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. I don't know. Maybe my standards are too high, but the food we had here just wasn't that great. People seem to love this place and I know it's been here forever, so my husband and I decided to give it a try for lunch on a Friday. The servers were friendly and the place seemed clean, just maybe a little old and rundown (that 60+ year old linoleum floor has certainly seen some better days). I ordered the Mexican plate (which comes with a trip to the salad bar?) and my husband ordered the taco plate. We also each ordered an iced tea and my husband decided to add the salad bar to his meal. Drinks were brought out quickly, along with chips and salsa. The chips were hot and obviously freshly cooked, which was a nice touch, but they were dripping with oil. The chips were translucent, they were so oily. It was really off-putting. The salsa was like no other salsa I have ever tasted, but I don't mean that as a compliment. It was weirdly sweet, very tomato-y with no heat or spice whatsoever. I tried putting a little salt in it to tone down the sweetness, but it didn't help. It was almost more like a marinara sauce than a salsa. Our server brought us a couple of small plates and we headed over to the salad bar. It's small, which is fine, but it didn't have a lot of actual salad vegetables on it. There was a big bowl of shredded iceberg lettuce, artfully ringed with little grape tomatoes and dried-out baby carrots, a tub of whole (?) green onions, some canned beet slices, and... that's it for the vegetables. Do people in Oklahoma not eat salads and/or know that there are more kinds of lettuce than iceberg? There were also tubs of shredded cheese, cottage cheese, macaroni salad, hard boiled eggs, a weird creamy salad with peas, some sad looking pineapple tidbits, and something that looked like diced ham but tasted like diced hot dogs. The grape tomatoes were the best part of the salad bar. We were still eating our salads when our food arrived. The restaurant was pretty full, so it was nice that the kitchen could keep up and get food out quickly. That having been said, I was not impressed with the food, at all. I guess I should explain that I am not a big fan of Tex-Mex. I've spent a lot of time living in the West and I've come to expect my Mexican food to be more flavorful and spicy. This food was not what I would consider Mexican food, it wasn't even really Tex-Mex food. It was more like what your Midwestern grandma, who had never eaten Mexican food but who read about it once in a magazine at the dentist's office, would bring to a church potluck. Everything was hot and fresh out of the oven (and slightly too browned on top), but so very bland, to the point of being flavorless. The prevailing flavor of the taco was the taco shell. The meat had no flavor at all, and it was dripping with grease. The tamale just tasted like cornbread. I'm not sure if it had any meat in it, because I couldn't taste it and I couldn't even tell by the texture. The cheese enchilada was filled with Velveeta. I know people here love their queso, but I didn't expect a cheese enchilada filled with Velveeta. It was weird and gross. The beans tasted exactly like canned ranch beans (the kind with the black label you can get at any grocery store) and the rice contained a lot of tomato paste and was mushy. The rice and beans were the best part of my meal. My husband said the same thing about his taco plate. Overall, meh. Again, the servers were friendly and the price we paid seemed reasonable for the quantity of food we got. It just wasn't good food. Maybe we'll go back another time and try the pizza.

If you are in the mood for grease, this is where it's at. They do have some decent pizza but for the most part everything on the mexican menu doesn't do much for me. I've eaten here probably 10 times over the past 15 years or more. It's worth checking out for yourself, but I tend to shy way unless with a group that just have to have "Benny's". They definitely have their own fan-base.

This is one of the better places to eat in Altus. My co-worker has been going here every Friday for the last 18 years so I decided to give it a try, and I've been going frequently ever since. They have old fashioned pizza cracker crust, which reminds me of this pizza joint we used to go to back home. They have great enchiladas, chips and salsa, and a fresh salad bar. The service is prompt and the food comes out fast. My only complaint would be that they are a little overpriced, but they are part of the Altus 100 so that's to be expected.

I would like to emphasize the fact that I am not a meat-eater making it hard for me to go to a country town and find something that I could eat so keep in mind that this review is strictly based on Cheese Enchiladas with Cheese on top. First, I should have gotten their pizza. Their pizza, I have heard, is great. I wish to go back some time and get pizza. But since I got Cheese Enchiladas, lets talk about that. My cheese enchiladas were very crispy because, instead of putting queso (which I think this place doesn't have) it had shredded cheese on it! I wouldn't call it bad but I am not used to getting shredded cheese on my enchiladas. The rice though, I would get! It was good rice. Their salsa was also some what good. It tasted a little like Bar-B-Cue-ish but not bad. I would go here but to only get their Pizza.

My coworkers and I tried this place for lunch and were not impressed. We walked in the door and seated ourselves. The place wasn't at all busy. After sitting there for almost 10 minutes being ignored, my coworker went to the counter and requested menus. We finaly ordered and the food came pretty quickly. I'm not a picky eater but the taco plate I has was awful. The pizza my coworker ordered was undercooked and tasted like raw dough. After eating as much as we could stomach of it, we waited on the check which never came. Again we had to go to the counter and request the check. By the time we left, the place was pretty packed which left us bewildered how a place with such lousy food and next to no customer service draws such a crowd. It's Altus I guess.

Benny's is a unique restaurant. You have to put the Altus perspective in play when you go in here...it is old, kind of dirty, and they serve pizza and mexican??? (weird combo). But as strange as it sounds, this place always has customers so they know how to satisfy the local client base. When I take my son to lunch we normally go to Benny's for their enchilada special with half beans, half rice. My son likes them and I would say their enchilada's are a mix between Taco Mayo and Pick-up Taco...you decide if that is good or bad. My son's favorite part about lunch is the cheese sauce he orders for his chips. It is cheese sauce like you get at a stadium for nachos...that smooth, creamy, unhealthly, out of the can yumminess that kids love. As for the rest of the menu, I have tried their pizza and it is unique and not too bad. Give this place a try for lunch one day if you can't really decide where you want to go, you may be a fan or you may be disgusted...just remember you have to look at it from the Altus perspective.
