Great food, great prices, wonderful people...don't miss it. The raspberry BBQ wings and burgers are incredible!

Don't be put off by the location or looks of the place. The food is ridiculously good! I love the hot raspberry BBQ sauce. The wings, burgers, ribs, and even fries are all excellent!

Frickin amazing wings. They're smoked. Ridiculous flavor. Fair-style fries. Mmmm. Good beer selection. You can still smoke inside. I think our bill was less than $30 for 4 people, and we were all stuffed and drunk when we left. Youngstown love.

When I first drove by this place, scouting out the neighborhood for other reasons, I thought that Royal Oak was another corner bar that had long closed. Needless to say, a friend took me here for some of the best ribs and cole slaw that I've had in a good while. It's a total dive establishment - it doesn't look like much on the outside, but it's got a lot of flavor and history on the inside. Royal Oak is the oldest bar in Youngstown - the first to reopen after Prohibition ceased, and it has its old timers that come and go with ease. Just be sure to not mention the word "basketball" during the 24 Hours of Daytonna, and you'll be all right.

Favorite. Hands-down, the best barbecue I've ever had. The ribs are smoky, slightly-charred, juicy, and smothered in sauce. The wings are also, quite easily, the best in Youngstown - I usually ask for mine extra crispy. There's a wide variety of sauces to suit your taste. The garlic rolls, mozz sticks, fries, onion rings and burgers are also top notch. They're amazingly consistent - at least 20-30 trips and I've never been let down. Beer is cheap, cold and refreshing. The service is great, and the atmosphere is perfect for a neighborhood bar and grill in Youngstown. This review is basically pointless since no one in Youngstown uses Yelp, and most of Youngstown's population is already on the same page when it comes to the Oaks.

If you like wings this is the place to go! An added bonus would be the ribs and some other great food comes out of the kitchen! All this, coupled with cheap drinks made right, makes this a regular stop for our crew when we are out on the bikes! Don't let the neighborhood scare you - great place!

A blue collar bar tucked away at the corner of route 422 and Oak st. in y-town. Run by the Kennedy brothers. NowI've been coming to this place for over 6yrs now and I live in Cleveland. It is always for the same exact thing; smoked ribs, yes they actually use cherry wood in their smoker and you can taste the subtle hint of it. The ribs are baby back and there are several sauces to choose from. I always go for the hot raspberry BBQ sauce and always on the side so that I can taste that insanely good smoked goodness through & through. The sauce is an excellent blend of heat with a hint of raspberry. The dinner comes with Excellent crispy fresh cut fries and a little bun that is seasoned with garlic. The bun is hot and fresh and so delicious that I always get 2. It also comes with coleslaw but I am not a big fan of coleslaw so thats why I get 2 rolls instead. Plenty of other good things on the menu and their chicken wings use the same insanely good sauces. One more thing they start cooking the ribs on Tuesday and tend to run out so call if you are coming and ask if the ribs are available. I promise you if you are a fan of smoked foods you will NOT be disappointed!

In 1934, "The Oaks" was established by the DeMain family, whose 6 sons and their family members ran as a busy neighborhood Tavern, frequented at all hours by local steelworkers from the predominantly Irish and Italian East Side. It has been run by the Kennedy brothers since 2000, and recievef a complete interior makeover by the docureality show team of "Bar Rescue", so it reflects the period style of the post prohibition era of the 1930s. No establishment has such a diverse and eclectic patronage, and best ribs in Youngstown with their signature raspberry barbecue sauce, prepared to perfection on Tuesday and Saturday nights. Nobody is a stranger at the Oaks.

I heard about people raving about this place so I just had to go there. I went there and had the barbecue ribs and chicken combo and my wife had onion rings and chicken tenders. The onion rings and chicken tenders were horribly greasy and almost uneatable. My chicken was extremely dry with sauce poured on. The ribs were burnt with a black crust on the outside. The fries that came with the meal were like the greasy Idora Park fries of the past. Not only was the food horrible but the place was filthy. There were oriental looking rugs under the tables which were placed upon a floor that should have been replaced many years ago. I will never, ever return to this place even if the food was free and they paid me to go there. Yuuuuk.

I lived in Youngstown on the East side for the first 30 years of my life. I passed this bar all the time and never went in. Four day ago at the age of 51 I walked in and ordered a Rib snack and 10 wings with Raspberry BBQ sauce. My life is complete I can now die in peace. One of the many hidden treasures in Youngstown.

This place is a diamond in the rough. From the looks of the outside it doesn't look promising. The food however is amazing. Like others have said, the raspberry BBQ is awesome..

went there to get the barbecue, they had none , I ordered the wings. they were undercooked an overpriced. the patrons couldn't communicate with each other without every other word being an obscenity, this place is gross.
