We entertained a large group here so there was a chance to sample several of the entree's. The vote from the 8 folks that had dinner: Shrimp Cocktail, which was billed as Prawns (which are supposed to be very large), was tasty but the shrimp were not Prawns. Good eating but not as advertised on the shrimp. Some had a bone in rib eye and some had NY Strip and some had Filet. All reported good tasting steaks. The bone in Rib Eye was a little small for the $41 price. By small I think we mean thin. The same applied to the NY. The seasoning and preparation was excellent. The ambiance was great and the drinks were just fine. Our waiter picked a great Cabernet for us at a moderate price ($79). We would come back again and it impressed our customers.

Bar menu was decent. My burger was not bad at all...pretty fresh. I liked the service we had a large party and they had a few servers. I enjoyed the wine...Dante ! Delicious and patio seating ( I'm from Cali so I liked that the most). Everything else I tasted was not amazing...but nice lowkey place for a date(overpriced). It would be better with live jazz.

Wow, this place was pretty amazing for being in small town Ohio! My little brother goes to Wooster and since my family and I was in town visiting, we decided to treat him to a nice steak instead of the usual college fare. We got a few of the appetizers which were all delicious. My personal fave were the crab-cakes! My Dad and brothers all got steak which they thoroughly enjoyed and I got fish. All of it was perfectly cooked, hot when they brought it out and we were all members of the clean plate club when dinner was over. If you are in Wooster and want a nice dinner definitely hit up City Square Steakhouse, but make sure to make a reservation!

This is by far the best place to eat in Wooster! It is located in the downtown area of this quaint college town, and the main restaurant and bar is in a delightful restored building, with an "outdoor" seating area at the side (actually it is a covered patio area with radiant heaters and roll-up doors that open depending on the outside temp). We chose to eat in that area, as it was fairly warm outside and one can choose from either the bar or restaurant menu. The wine list is well done and prices are very reasonable. We ended up ordering the Chianti Classico....very good! For dinner, we both chose the bar menu and I had a burger with mushrooms and cheese (nice and juicy) with very tasty, and very thin fries. My freind had the crab cake sandwich and loved it, pronouncing it not too loaded with "fillers" and having a nice balance of crabmeat .The optional side salad was delicious and a very reasonable portion size. Being a Saturday night, it was crowded, but service was very good and everything arrived on time and there was no "rush" to finish our meal. There are some nice antique and gift shops in the surrounding area, and a good deli/butcher shop across the street that sells wine and beer "to go" .

The general manager was beyond rude to our party. After giving our writing our comment card about how unpleased we were with his greeting, he came back to our table time and time again in the most hostile demeanor. You don't come back to a diner's table 4 times and harass them!

I'm frequently in Wooster on business and City Square has become my go to dinner place. Steaks are consistently excellent. I've both hosted clients there and had dinner at the bar by myself and the service has been very good under both circumstances. Beautifully restored old building. Nice selection of local micro-brews (love the JAFB stuff), as well as a nicely stocked whiskey shelf. Decent value for the quality of the experience, although it's certainly at the upper end of what I would expect spend on dinner in a mid-western small town.

My favorite restaurant in Wooster. Everyone on staff is friendly and attentive, the food is delicious (especially the gourmet cheese fries) and they mix the best drinks in town. If you haven't yet, then go there now.

Same stuff as last time. The service is awful. Bad attitudes. We had to ask for new silverware and steak knives. This is a mediocre steakhouse if there ever was one.

Probably the nicest and classiest restaurant you'll find in Wooster. The steak is truly phenomenal, this place knows meat. Their other main dishes of chicken, fish, and pasta are also cooked to perfection. Also, I would highly recommend their french onion soup - its mouth-watering!

Good food but the staff seemed generally unhappy to be working there so the net experience was average. Definitely has the best outdoor seating in Wooster though. Try the Truffle Fries, They're great.

First of all we all know their food is delicious. But let me say the 5 stars all go to our waitress. I went to City Square with my parents and grandparents after a very long day. My grandma isn't in the greatest health and requires patience when we go out to eat, and my grandpa, love him, but he can be a waitress's worst nightmare. He is sassy and very picky. Our waitress was PHENOMENAL. Not only was she patient and attentive to my grandma, making sure to bend down and talk slowly so she could hear and giving her time to respond, but really going above and beyond to make her happy and comfortable. She also was happy to joke and throw a little sass back and my grandpa, which is needed and much appreciated. He was laughing and loving the dining experience (which, is an EXTREMELY difficult thing to accomplish, there are plenty of restaurants in town he refuses to go to simply because of one bad server). On top of all of that our drinks were always full, our plates were cleared in a timely manner. Even if the food had been awful, I would be back simply because the wait staff was so great at their jobs. But... the food was also delicious. If you are there on a night they have seafood bisque I would suggest you order it! I got a cup of the bisque and a burger, I kind of wish I had just gotten a bowl of the soup, it was that good. Their burgers are also amazing, and cooked perfectly. I am always happy to go somewhere where I order a medium rare burger and I actually get a medium rare burger!

My husband and I met some friends (regulars) here for dinner on a Saturday night. We read the Yelp reviews on the way to the restaurant. I noticed that many reviewers dubbed it as "the best food in Wooster". This is more than that! This restaurant holds its own against restaurants in Cleveland! Although we ate at the bar we received the Grand Tour of the entire restaurant (including the patio) from a member of the staff. If you are a fan of old historic buildings, good brews, frou-frou drinks, eclectic wines, and/or creative dishes - this place has something for you! One of the most surprising things about this restaurant is the mixture of patrons mingling with one another - from families to business associates to the artsy-fartsy, this seemed like the place to be. Not only that; the demographic was far-reaching - we live in Cuyahoga Falls and there were other diners there from Akron and Canton. This restaurant is not "right off the expressway" so some patrons had a haul to come here. I had a lovely red wine blend to start and my husband had a bumble-brew beer on draught that he LOVED. I also had an INCREDIBLE Tempranillo that they had on special. Our appetizers included Crab Stuffed Mushrooms and broiled sweet scallops... so good! I ordered the ribeye and my hubby ordered walley - all were done to perfection! For dessert, the barmaid suggested a champagne cocktail mixed with St. Germaine and a lemon twist, which I greedily inhaled (my husband was driving). What an amazing evening! Expect to make lots of new friends if you eat here!

Been here a few times and truly enjoy their burgers. Haven't tried anything else on their menu yet, but it's been difficult not to get the burger. My favorites are the Mushroom Swiss burger as well as the Blue burger. This is by far the best restaurant in Wooster.

My sister and I planned a party with CSS for our mom's birthday/retirement and everything was so great - the food, the beer and wine selection, the space we were able to reserve and most importantly, the staff. We planned the party long distance and Scott was extremely responsive and helpful to our many, many demands to ensure the event was executed smoothy. Everything ended up being great and I recommend CSS not only for a dinner date but also for a party. Our 65 guests are still raving about how great everything was.
I like steak but I'm not willing to pay the price of a cow to eat one. After checking the prices on the menu I will eating my anniversary dinner somewhere else.

It was our first time to try this steak house last night and all I can say is excellent! I love the restaurant itself, very modern and upscale, the food was great- we ordered crab cakes with small salad, crispy pork belly on cheesy grits with slaw and seafood bisque. It all tasted great, they were small portions though so you should consider sampling more appetizers if you are a big group. For our main course, my husband and I ordered rack of lamb with sweet potato and beet Demi-glaze and pan-seared mahi-mahi with avocado salsa. We were really impressed with the food's quality, the seasoning is spot on and cooked perfectly! They have great and well-trained staff and they are very knowledgeable about what they serve. I highly recommend this place, it's a little bit pricey but it's worth it.

My wife and I trekked from Mount Vernon to City Square to celebrate our anniversary. Wow! I had the Filet Oscar and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had! I ordered it medium rare and holy smokes... it cut like butter and tasted unbelievable. Both of us were so impressed we brought our family back a few months later to celebrate my mom's birthday. The atmosphere, location and service was excellent and they have a decent wine selection. For a "small town" steakhouse, I will put this restaurant up against any of the big name places in Columbus. Wooster, you are spoiled! Enjoy!

A local friend brought me here and given the location, I wasn't expecting much despite the high prices for BFE, Ohio. City Square Steakhouse would never survive in a coastal urban location. The calamari was rubbery and the sauce tasted like marinara sauce. The field greens salad was trying to recreate your typical salad in trendy coastal restaurants, but failed and the dressing made the salad bitter. I sampled their mashed potatoes off friends' plates, and it was loaded with too much salt and not enough flavor. I tried a friend's fish (some sort of white fish, I forget what it was) and the texture was okay, but it tasted like a stick of salted butter. The steak was above average but it wasn't anything mind-blowing. TL;DR everything was super salty and the food doesn't compare to the urbane restaurants it's trying to emulate.

One of the best restaurants in Wooster. If you're feeling spendy, they have wonderful steaks and cocktails. If you just want a casual night out with friends or your S.O, the bar menu has amazing reasonably-priced burgers (which have always been cooked perfectly) and drinks. They have live jazz on Wednesdays, a great outdoor patio open during the summer and consistent excellent service from the wait staff.

Gorgeous atmosphere, sat in the heated patio which highlights a long tree branch decorated & lighted. The food was very good, small portions and expensive.

Finally a place that knows how to cook a steak! I recommend their top sirloin. Make reservations if you can, they get busy. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Check on their drag beer rotation! Thumbs up!

Steaks are amazing! Unfortunately it took no less than 3 tries for them to cook them right. Mine was NY strip medium rare. My girlfriend's was sirloin med-well. Instead I received a well done strip and she got a perfectly cooked medium rare sirloin. We let them know about the mix up and they quickly tried to fix this. But even though these were definitely different steaks they did the same thing again!!!! At that point we had to be somewhere so we just said screw it and ate them anyways. The sirloin cooked med-rare with garlic shallot butter sauce was in the top 3 steaks I've ever had. It wasn't what I ordered but it was amazing. The NY strip was good but not great. Very thin steak. And a little gristle on the outsides. The manager was pretty upset this happened and we got our meal free along with free desert so all and all not bad! It was great food and service but something was wrong with communication in the kitchen. I've also had the burgers and they were top notch. I normally don't care for shoe string fries but I really liked these.

Excellent scallop appetizer and very good steaks. Enjoyed everything except the rushed service. Salads showed up while we were still eating our appetizer, got in a tug of war with the busser for my plate, and then they brought the entree while we were still eating salad! When I'm paying up to $45 per plate, I expect to be given the opportunity to savor my meal.

Friends had recommended City Square and since we're always in the mood for a good steak - why not. Our server was courteous and very conscience about our presence. The calamari appetizer was average, nothing spectacular. The salads were fresh and crisp with the house dressing - very good. And then when our steaks were delivered as ordered, we could not be happier. They were delicious. Good ambiance and friendly staff. Worth a return visit. If in doubt, make a reservation.

We tried again. Our last few experiences at City Square have been less than stellar. Sadly, trying again was just another disappointment. It will be quite a long time before we go to this establishment again. Allow me to note just a few of the things that happened tonight. Our first server was very nice, but was given a task elsewhere, so someone else took our order. We decided to postpone drinks until after our first course. We ordered. When our first course arrived (delivered by yet a third person), the sauce on one of our plates was not correct. When we told the kitchen runner that the wrong sauce was on the dish, she was less than pleased and looked dubiously at us, but said she would take it back to the kitchen. The "new" plate arrived with the correct sauce mixed in with the spilled first sauce making the food unappealing. Then, right there by our table, the kitchen runner who delivered the plate argued about the mistake with the person who had taken our order. Embarrassing. The salad was uninspired. It seemed to come right out of a bag and the tomatoes were awful and tasteless. There is so much wonderful local produce available right now, but it is obvious the chef does not take advantage of it, although, many of the other downtown restaurants do. When our main course arrived, it was not cooked as we had ordered. Again it was not delivered by our original server or even by the server who took our order, but by the argumentative kitchen runner who had delivered our first course. She left quickly and never returned. We attempted to eat the meal, but portions of it were so poorly cooked that they were inedible. Finally, our original server (who we had not seen since our arrival) returned to check on us. We explained the food was not cooked to our order (we had made sure to make our order clear to the person who took it). He was very nice and wanted to take it back to fix it - it was too late for that. He did, however, have the bill partially adjusted. By the way, no one ever came back to take our drink order and we had to ask for bread (or we never would have gotten it) which delivered by yet another disgruntled kitchen runner who slammed it down on the table with a curt, "Here's your bread". We simply finished what we could eat of the meal, got our bill, and left. I doubt that we will return to City Square any time soon, and I cannot in good faith recommend it to anyone. Presently, the establishment has many problems that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, the few responsible servers are at the mercy of a negligent kitchen, rude kitchen runners, and confusing task assignments. I recommend looking for another venue for your dinner. I know I will.
We been there numerous times and it has always been great. The Seafood Bisque is to die for. My favorite is the Peppered Strip Steak. Service is also a 5. Dinner on Saturday night, a full restaurant and we out in an hour.

My family has eaten at the City Square Steakhouse twice, and so now I can give an overall view of the restaurant. The surroundings and seating are comfortable, and given the traffic in and out has a manageable noise level. This is a rarity it seems in this day and age with rehabbed brick interiors giving rise to really noisy environs. The beer selections, particularly the drafts, are good to excellent, and the wine menu is satisfactory. Alas, for all the charm of this restaurant and downtown Wooster, we must judge the restaurant by its strength, which is the steak menu. We think the quality of the steak, regardless of cut, is good but not outstanding. The steak is of good quality but falls short on marbling and overall succulence. Given the entree pricing is comparable to many other high-end steakhouses--if you want outstanding steak in NE Ohio, go to the Hyde Park Grill establishments, Johnny's, or some similar venue. Don't get me wrong, I like this steakhouse, it just falls short on the quality end for the prices being charged. If you want the best restaurant in Wooster, it's still the Market Street Bistro (right across the street).

Great place nice setting friendly staff. Steaks were just right. Filet was super. Shrimp pasta great. Price was very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Don't get to Wooster often but when I do I will look to come again.

The best dining experience I have had in Wooster. I had the ribeye with red skin potatoes and a great side salad. They had beer on tap from the local JAFB Wooster Brewery, which is always excellent. Really nice atmosphere, location, and service. Absolutely recommended!

Took my dad and grandparents out for dinner here while I was up for a visit. Service was good other than them forgetting my appetizer, which wasn't a big deal since the rest of the food was excellent. The whole group was very happy with their steaks and baked potatoes. Will recommend this place to my friends in the area.

City Square Steakhouse lives up to it's reputation for a decent cut of meat, and a nice place to eat on a date night. My carnivore husband savored his plate of twin center cut filets bite by bite, as did I with my summer steak salad. My favorite part of the meal was the seafood bisque I started with that was accompanied by a spot-on pineapple mojito. The big chunks of citrus and mint complimented the soup well. It was a lovely evening that we shared outside on their patio. Sadly, the bread tasted boring compared to the bistro across the street, the butter was watery (odd!), and the service was inconsistent. Still, we were pleased overall and will gladly return.

One of the only places to eat good food in wooster. Good steaks and meat but slightly overpriced for the area. Definitely one of the classiest place downtown and a great place to take a date. Had the pork loin steak once and it was cooked perfectly. So far nothing else in Wooster has topped it yet.

Had a great time at this chic restaurant after staying at the equally chic St. Paul Hotel down the block. We had dinner in the dining room and had asked for a table with a bit of privacy since it was a special occasion. I am glad we asked for that, as they really do pack the tables together. Gives the restaurant a vibrant vibe though. Our table was also nice as it was right next to the fireplace. My husband (who earned huge points for this!) had called ahead to have flowers at the table. Bad news is the flowers weren't on the table when we walked in the door. Good news is that I had to visit the restroom so my husband was able to scramble to get the flowers on the table before I sat down. Service was wonderful, food was great. Had a drink afterwards at the bar up front. Nice cozy feel to the bar. I'd definitely dine there for more of a casual experience. Definitely recommend this one.

Four of us in from out of town stopped here for dinner. Even though we did not have reservations, the staff was great about accomodating us and seating us quickly, despite it being very crowded. The bar was really beautiful, and the bartender made a good Manhattan. Once seated, we got very prompt service. Those of us who ordered the onion soup really enjoyed it; excellent broth and soft, creamy cheese on top. One of our group got the ceasar salad as an entree and loved it. Entrees were mixed. The tilpia special was excellent. The peppered strip steak was perfectly cooked at medium rare and very flavorful, but the pepper tended to overpower the great taste of the meat. The ribeye was pedestrian at best, cooked medium rare but rather flavorless. The garlic mashed potatoes were a hit. The wine list was quite nice (loved the temperanillo by the glass). A very nice evening in Wooster.

While I'm not quite ready to bill myself as a connoisseur of steak, I've had more than my fair share while traveling. Without hesitation, I have to say the best steak I ever had was at this very restaurant. They form the hub of an incredible selection of eating establishments in downtown Wooster, OH

The City Square is my ultimate neighborhood bar destination. I think people are fooled into thinking it's only upscale, but thanks to its split personality of high-end dining room and bar area, it can take on whichever identity you choose. I tend to stick to the bar area, as the bar menu is delicious and very affordable, with great happy hour prices on drinks. It's also very cozy with friendly service. As cheesy as it sounds, it really does feel like the place where everybody knows your name. The fine dining side is also fantastic. The booths are intimate, and you can carry on a conversation without feeling as though the entire restaurant is listening. I've never had a bad meal here! The only thing I might say that is slightly negative is that the menu hasn't changed much in the 2 years I've lived here. Certainly, there are daily specials to keep things interesting, but it would be nice to see some fresher options on a regular basis. Love this place!

Mom's in town and doesn't want to eat take-out pizza, yet you don't want her to completely break the bank on dinner so she'll continue to finance your hipster liberal arts education? This is a nice place for that. The prices seem reasonable for the quality of food served. It's a great mix of Wooster sensibility and high-class food. Case in point: my father and I walked in, on a week night, in jeans without a reservation. No problem, we sat down, received impeccable service, and left sated with leftovers. It's a great sit-down place if you feel like bein' a little fancy. It's great for Events To Impress Big Names. Surprisingly, and not many restaurants do this well outside of large cities, it's a great happy hour location. I have met several dates here for a drink and a bite in the bar area, and the place is (comfortably) full of Wooster's see-and-be-seen (read: college professors and like-minded types). The bartender's pretty good, too. It's a no-lose scenario.

Probably the best in town. Finally my mussels were delicious and our salad and main dishes were very good. Expensive, but worth it They have an outside patio and music on certain days. Service was slow, but I'm starting to think that this must be a Wooster thing because everywhere I go the service is S LO W. so take your time and enjoy the company.

Great atmosphere except for the clashing blue paint on the opposite of bar wall. Wine was stale, but was give another glass from a fresh bottle promptly. Too bad they don't use local organic cattle in the true farm to table spirit. Lovely patio makes for comfortable seasonal dining and drinking in downtown Wooster in an area often avoided before developers injected some serious style into a once lackluster area.

Very good restaraunt experience. Classic, yet locally eclectic decor and atmosphere. Good service. The standout was its steaks. Nice cuts of meat, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Solid side dishes and dessert. Though a higher price point, I felt the value was solid. I would put City Square up against the 'big boys' of steakhouses any day (Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Hyde Park, etc). Highly recommend!

I wanted to be impressed, I truly did. We planned ahead to eat at the bar and had reviewed the menu before arriving at the restaurant. The atmosphere is beautiful, very upscale, modern, much nicer than you would expect from a small town place. The bar was great, fast, didn't skimp on the liquor and friendly but once our appetizer arrived it's like we were in the twilight zone, we waited over 30 minutes for our burgers and they were dry, unappetizing and basically not at all what we expected based on the reviews. Maybe the main dining room is better but if you are just looking for drinks and burgers, it's overpriced at City Square.

One of my favorite restaurants in Wooster! We dine in the dining room for birthdays, anniversaries and any other "special" occasions we can think of. My favorite meal is the twin center cut filets with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. The also have amazing desserts like bananas foster, cheesecake and seasonal pies- I think I had blackberry last fall...it was to die for! Meals here can be somewhat expensive. We also enjoy dining on their outdoor patio or at their bar- their bar menu is reasonably priced- my favorite is the California burger- it has guac on it.... If you go during happy hour be sure to try their parmesan truffle oil french fries.... they are sooooo tasty!

There is no better steak house within 30 miles of Wooster. People are friendly, bartender is great, manager is very knowledgeable, Natlie Portman works there on her days off and they have a duck for a mascot.

Wow! Since City Steak House opened a few months ago I have been there regularly. GREAT food, very nice atmosphere, and a cool bar with wonderful decor. This place is definitely a find for Wooster. First the decor is very cool. Lots of reproduction photos of old Wooster and the downtown. A great bar area greets you are the door and the tables are covered in white table cloths. The food was really very good. I had the City Square Sirloin Steak, a 10oz Top Sirloin Steak Served with Mushrooms, Onions & Roasted Garlic Butter. I got it with a side of the onion rings which were great as well. The steak was cook to perfection and just how I ordered it. We were too stuffed for dessert so unfortunately, we passed on it. This would be considered a great steakhouse even in a big city. I certainly hope that it is able to make it in Wooster, although with the big city prices I doubt it will be able to stay around too long in this town.

Had dinner last night. Got a lousy table against a door and asked a question about the wines and was told "I don't know but could get the manager" which never happened. Food was good but a bit on tithe high side with price. This was probably our eighth out so time here. Good and will come back, just won't hurry back.

Great date night! Bar service was fantastic - fiancé loves the old fashioned. Wine list is good. Food is impeccable. Ask for Ari as your server. He was so friendly, accommodating and on top of our needs. Loved the atmosphere. Relaxing, friendly but a casual feel!

(5)Lisa Marie C.
Gorgeous atmosphere, sat in the heated patio which highlights a long tree branch decorated & lighted. The food was very good, small portions and expensive.
(3)Scott B.
Finally a place that knows how to cook a steak! I recommend their top sirloin. Make reservations if you can, they get busy. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Check on their drag beer rotation! Thumbs up!
(4)Jeremy S.

My fiancé and I recently moved to Wooster and this became out all time favorite place to go after just two visits. We tend to stick to the bar menu - very quaint seating with absolutely awesome burgers with unique toppings. The French onion soup is a must-try!!
(5)Don W.

(3)Bryan K.
Great place nice setting friendly staff. Steaks were just right. Filet was super. Shrimp pasta great. Price was very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Don't get to Wooster often but when I do I will look to come again.
(4)Kevin F.
The best dining experience I have had in Wooster. I had the ribeye with red skin potatoes and a great side salad. They had beer on tap from the local JAFB Wooster Brewery, which is always excellent. Really nice atmosphere, location, and service. Absolutely recommended!
(5)Phillip W.
Took my dad and grandparents out for dinner here while I was up for a visit. Service was good other than them forgetting my appetizer, which wasn't a big deal since the rest of the food was excellent. The whole group was very happy with their steaks and baked potatoes. Will recommend this place to my friends in the area.
(4)Amy H.

Ribeye with garlic butter. Delicious

(5)Anthony K.
Big city steakhouse flair in a small town setting. Beautiful bar, excellent steaks and salmon. Cornerstone in the revitalization of downtown Wooster.
(4)Elizabeth M.
The owner sold the Bistro and is focusing on his burger joint (The Rail) in Akron (good choice!)
(5)Shayra A.
(4)Timothy P.
(4)Jay S.
(4)Tina G.
(2)Andrea M.
(5)Alan R.
There is no better steak house within 30 miles of Wooster. People are friendly, bartender is great, manager is very knowledgeable, Natlie Portman works there on her days off and they have a duck for a mascot.
(5)K S.
Wow! Since City Steak House opened a few months ago I have been there regularly. GREAT food, very nice atmosphere, and a cool bar with wonderful decor. The wait staff is new and getting the hang of it. Do not fail to try the seafood bisque or the french fries with truffle oil and parmesan cheese.....the absolute yummiest.
(5)Robert T.
(4)Suzanne P.
Service at the bar seemed slow at first but improved. Salad and bread were great. Decent wine selection. A diamond in the rough.
(4)Dustin S.
Had dinner last night. Got a lousy table against a door and asked a question about the wines and was told "I don't know but could get the manager" which never happened. Food was good but a bit on tithe high side with price. This was probably our eighth out so time here. Good and will come back, just won't hurry back.
