Bbq combo was good. The brisket is served chopped and the pork was large chunks. Very good flavor! The onions rings where as i expect but the fries where soggy. Will be back again!

We were driving through Ohio on our way from Chicago to Blacksburg and got off the interstate. West Alexandria was a small town on U.S. 35 with a handful of quaint buildings, which gave us some hope for feeding a hungry baby in the evening at a non-chain restaurant. Buckeye Jake's fit the bill. The interior of the building (formerly a large 19th c. residence) was beautifully restored and set a very pleasant setting for the meal. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive and not put off by our baby, which can sometimes be the case (silverware on the floor and various spills). The food was decent family fare -- I had a chicken salad with a side of fries, my wife had a house salad, and our 17 month-old son had mac and cheese. There wasn't much exceptional about the food (no special local sourcing, organic ingredients, or chefly jiu-jitsu), with the exception of the fries, which were cut in-house -- no starch-coated fast food fries. However, we were looking for a pretty good, convenient meal in a place with some character, and Buckeye Jake's delivered at a very reasonable price. Before leaving, we bought one of the photographs by a local artist that was displayed on the walls of the restaurant. We were quite happy with Buckeye Jake's and would recommend it to any traveler.

Restaurant is excellent. Have been many times and always enjoy myself. The brisket is great, as are the fried pickles and corned beef Reuben.

Came to Buckeye Jakes to help support a friend with cancer. They are donating a part of the days totals to her & her family. Upon arrival we were seated right away on the patio. They have a great patio, plenty of seating, and lots of shade. Our waitress was nice but we could tell overloaded with tables inside and out. It took a good 15 minutes for her to come get our drink order. Even after we ordered our food it took 45 minutes to get it. We ordered an appetizer of fried pickles (that were ok) thy we didn't receive till the end of our meal. Probably like most people I prefer to have my appetizers and salads before my entree comes out. My kids were defiantly restless by the time our food arrived. I ordered a western burger and sweet potato fries. The burger didn't have much flavor and a soggy bottom bun. It was edible, just not exactly what I was looking for. The sweet potato fries were grey and I could of just had those. My sister, who was with me, ordered a pulled pork sand which, which she enjoyed, though she did need a bit more BBQ sauce for it. Overall the staff was friendly, the food was mediocre, and we were able to support a good cause. I probably will come back, at a less busy time, and try something different.

I've been to Buckeye Jake's quite a few times now as it's just about the only place to eat in West Alex. The food is pretty good. I really like the fish sandwich and the chop steak dinner. The burgers are just okay. Their mac n cheese and mashed potatoes are excellent. The fries are good too. Prices aren't too bad and they do have some cheaper lunch specials. I love that this place is in an old house. It's really quiet inside though so everything you say echoes. I've never seen it particularly crowded - we've never had to wait for a table. The service is good even if one or two of the waitresses aren't very friendly. They just added a big outdoor patio area with lots of tables so I'm looking forward to going in warmer months and sitting outside.
