I MISS TANDOOR. So much!!! I haven't been able to find Indian food this good since I left Sylvania for Chicagoland. Tandoor, you spoiled me for all other Indian food and I am dreaming about getting back to Toledo to eat your delicious spicy,. tangy, wonderful delicacies until my gut nears bursting - yes, I am salivating as I am writing this review. It has been six years since I have passed through your doors, I am hoping to be taking my place in one of your comfy booths within the next two weeks, please be just as good now as you were then!!! :)

Positives: The mango lassi is delicious. I'd say the breads are also consistently good. Negatives: Everything else seems to be hit or miss of late. Generally not bad, but not great either. The service varies quite a bit as well. That has always been the case, but was more forgivable when the food was better. Conclusion: I used to love this place, but it seems to have fallen off while we were away. I hope it comes back as it was one of the first places I took my wife to when we started dating, so it has a high nostalgia value for me. Hopefully I'll be able to provide a better update soon.

Real good quality of food. A little pricey, but worth it. Great atmosphere. Good service. I'll be a regular..

The restaurant is dirty, the staff is indifferent and the food is mediocre. I would consider take out if desperate but I worry about the condition of the kitchen. I felt a little ill after my meal. We have been here two years ago when it was pretty good. Not sure what is going on.

I love Tandoor. I go to Tandoor frequently for the lunch buffet and it can be fantastic. Many times when I go the lunch buffet has good variety, including a couple of vegetarian entrees, a chicken/lamb entree, and the tandoori chicken (which I am actually not a fan of). When their lunch buffet has a good variety, it is truly one of my favorite meals, but some days their lunch buffet will be filled with a bunch of boring entrees (potato based, lentil based, and so on). So during the good days it is FANTASTIC, and during the boring days it is just okay. For dinner, it is always good. Decent sized entrees and decent prices. If you want to try out a bunch of random Indian food, go to their lunch buffet and see what you like before going for dinner.

The food here is good, decently priced and comes in a good quantity. However, the service is a little slow and the staff always appear to be in a bad mood

Really good Indian. When I lived in Toledo, sometimes my parents would visit for the day and I would hope they arrived in time for us to have lunch buffet at Tandoor. Been there in the evening for dinner a few times and it's equally delicious. Worth every penny. Will definitely be back!

Stopped in for the first time today. Had the lunch buffet. It was good. Not amazing, but good. My favorites were the naan, tandoori chicken, chicken chili, and the two puddings they had for dessert. I will definitely be back to try their regular menu, and will probably be back for the buffet again as well.

Recently, I met some friends for dinner and wasn't as blown away as previous times. The portions for dinner were sparing and what used to be a huge portion of biryani with shrimp was just enough to fill me for the moment. My friend asked for her spice level to be mild with just a touch of heat. It was hotter than mine and I ordered mine hot.

Waited 10 min to be seated on a non busy afternoon. Waited 30 more minutes before getting my order taken and noticed a few customers repeatedly asking for their appetizers to clueless waiters. I ordered what I always order, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, and Lamb Sheek. Garlic Naan was delicious but the Chicken Tikka and Lamb were bland.com . I'm used to Indian Cuisine dancing on my tongue in terms of flavor and spice and this place did not have it. I'm 100% sure my Masala sauce was poured out of a can, disgusting. The lamb was dry and I had to have a few bites to decipher whether it was minced with ground beef because it didn't have any flavor at all. I had wait on my waiter several times for refills. Other waiters had to refill it for me because my actual waiter never came back after bringing out my food even though I didn't complain and I still tipped him. Definitely not going back here. I didn't even take my leftovers. Complete waste of $35.

Most everything is very good at Tandoor. Try the shrimp or paneer pakora for an appetizer. Make sure to eat them with the homemade tamarind and coriander chutneys for an pleasurable palate experience. Some scrumptious and flavorful dishes include: Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Biryani and Keema Motter. Many of the sides are fantastic as well. The restaurant gets a 4 out of 5 due to two strikes on them. # 1- The tandoori chicken is bland and dry, even though it has a beautiful deep reddish-pink color when served. # 2- The house salad is served with Italian dressing. Yes, I am not joking, Italian dressing! I immediately sent it away from my table and proceeded to question the waitress as to why this happened. She actually ended up being the owner's daughter and claimed that the American diners prefered the salad that way. How un-authentic! I asked her how it "should" be served, and she brought me out a salad lightly dressed in lemon juice and spices. Much better indeed. If I wanted a basic salad with junk Sysco Italian dressing, then I should have stopped in next door at Steak & Shake! With all that aside, stop in to Tandoor for a great meal. The luncheon buffet is also an excellent deal too.

This family owned restaurant is great. I have dinner here usually once a month. The service is great as is the food. I think the portion sizes are generous and the family has really updated the place recently. This place is packed on Friday and Saturday night. Definitely worth 5 stars!

  • Amina K.

Horrible at its finest! Lunch buffet was old, dry, and bland. Silverware was crusted and filthy. The owner/manager never smiles, pretty rude. Went on a weekend and waited 20 minutes for water. Yup. I could've gone outside and gotten rainwater in my cup. I asked 5 times for a drink. Nothing. Ordered my food to go and everything tastes the same. Bland. Soggy. Boring. Gross. Dry. Service is terrible and we were waiting for over 20 minutes just for someone to take our order. Really? Can I get a free piece of bread for waiting that long? Oh, wait...no. Still waiting on water. Never going there again. Take 2.5 more miles and go to Star of India. That's real food and real service.

I tried their lunch buffet for the first time, and I was very underwhelmed. The food did not appear to be fresh and was very lacking in taste and traditional indian spices, and quite frankly was simply bland. The potato pakora served in the buffet definitely did not taste fresh. There was a very limited selection of dishes and only one meat dish, which was some tandoori chicken. Although I had a favorable experience with their sit down dinner menu in the past, I was very disappointed with their lunch buffet and did not feel it was worth the price.

  • Blane T.

As this establishment was indeed my first experience with Indian cuisine I will say that due to the delicious outcome of my meal I will be sure to revisit again and again to try new dishes they have to offer. Lastly, the lunch buffet is ridiculously good!

Great Food & service is always great. Love the food. We go to this place almost on a weekly basis. Great rice pudding!

  • Shubham S.

I have been to this place for both la carte and buffet. I thought their buffet was quite curtailed in options as it had only 2-3 dishes for vegetarians. Generally in any indian restaurant, they have 4-5 dishes for vegetarians. There were no proper sweet dish item on the menu. When I visited there place at night, I ordered kadhai paneer. I was not satisfied with the quality of the food and found it to be waste of money. I have had better experiences in several other restaurant. I would go here only if I do not have any other option.

  • Vanessa H.

My fiance and I loved this place when I lived in Toledo for college. We miss this place so much. They had the BEST MULLIGATAWNY SOUP I have ever had! Their lunch buffet's on the weekend and dinner's were so good.

  • Douglas W.

We've stopped in a couple times on our way through OH. It's just off 80 and is easy. The buffet has a good selection but the food is pretty uninspired. It's a good option for lunch if you're traveling and don't want to eat junk but it's not any better than that. The place is in drastic need of updating. I rarely comment on the condition of places I eat but this place is dirty and makes me uncomfortable. There's a lot of potential here and I am rooting for them but wish they would put a bit more energy into the place top to bottom.

This was my first time getting Indian food in Toledo and I was not disappointed. I got the lamb vindaloo and garlic naan, and my meal came with rice. I also got the hottest spiciness available. It was delicious. It was a decent amount of food, probably two meals for most people (only one for me...I was hungry!) the spice level wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be, and I can imagine that for many people it wouldn't be spicy enough. However I can't wait to go back, I really loved this place and anyone who likes Indian food so check it out!

  • Jane C.

Fabulous Chicken Tikka Masala! Such depth of flavor. Also Aloo Gobi was best I've ever had! Great flavor and spice. Very enjoyable.

  • Blane T.

My one and only true Indian cuisine experience. They have a lunch buffet from 11am - 2:30pm that will rock one's socks, but if the buffet is empty be prepared to fight people for the naan that is served..it is worth fighting for. Just be cautious of regulars that seem to think they run the joint and are entitled to first dibs, and piss and moan when the buffet is lacking what they want at that specific moment.

    (4)
  • Robert H.

I got the Tandoor Chicken it was absolutely delicious! It was great food for a good price, the atmosphere was nice and the service was excellent. make sure to get a side of naan with your meal

    (5)
  • Allison K.

I ordered a glass of malbec, and the vegetarian platter with an order of naan. My favorite parts of the platter was this yogurty sauce, and then the chana masala of course. The daal and whatever the fourth item was were tasty too. A little more than 1 person could finish but I think I made a pretty good dent! The medium spicy level was not too much at all, might even need to crank it up a notch next time! The dining room stayed busy throughout our meal, so we def aren't the only ones who know this place is tasty!

  • Athreya R.

If you want Indian cuisine, im sorry but Toledo is not the place to go to...Take the hour trip north to Michigan and get yourself some descent Indian food. Tandoor is pinnacle of Americanized Indian food...under seasoned, meat was WAAY too dry and the naan was a piece of charcoal. The only reason im giving this a 2 was because our waitress was pretty nice. The manager however is awful and rude.

    (2)
  • Razoun R.

Went there for the buffet lunch. Did not enjoy it. Most of the naan bread was burnt. Chicken was dry and not so flavorful, was not a good experience overall. Service was great. Price was $8.50 a person. Wouldn't go there again.

One of my all time favorite haunts. No one makes coconut soup the way they do. Beautiful, cozy, friendly and delicious.

Excellent masala, that's all you need to know

  • S s.

I have to be honest in saying, I love this place. I go for dinner and carry out quite often. The food, especially breads and masala dishes are really fresh and delicious. I am adventurous, and went for the HOT classification... watch out! In general the food is really tasty, not too oily or heavy like some other places I have been. They have a very good variety and I hear there is a buffet daily. On a pay scale I would say the average dish runs around $14, but the portion sizes are at the very least for two, if not more. I think this place has a great atmosphere and really great food that is worth the price. I had a fish thali once, and I wasn't so jazzed about that but everything else has been awesome. The service is excellent and it's good for a large crowd or a night out with a few friends. I highly recommend checking it out! Great spot!

  • Ruth S.

Totally awesome!!!!! They make excellent chicken tiki masala, prices are reasonable, service is not bad, and its the place to be for dinner! Every time I like to try something different, and I've never been disappointed...so far I've had the baingan bharta, vindaloo, and lamb curry...all excellent! It's a very nice and cozy restaurant with great food!

  • Maria D.

So, my favorite Indian restaurant thus far is still probably Masala, but I'll say why... This place really is great. It's nicely decorated, and their mango lassies are fantastic! The reason I am not such a big fan of this place yet is due to my poor ordering skills. I hadn't read the menu closely enough, or didn't know what it meant, but my dish was not what I expected, so it was just meh. I am still very excited to go back and try it again, since my fiance liked it even better than Masala. So, we'll probably take turns going to each place. ;-)

I always take my 3- and 4-year-old kids with me to the Tandoor lunch buffet ($8.50), which I prefer over Masala's and the Jewel's lunch buffet. Although typical American kids would balk at the selection, my kids have grown up with the Tandoor buffet, and they love it. The buffet always has salad, fruit, rice, naan, a dal, tandoori chicken, spice tea, and both rice and mango pudding, and it usually has a variety of other interesting dishes. My kids and I are always excited to see Me-kay, the owner, who's always there.

"Eek, me thinks not (yelp 1star review quote)." This review is in terms of the lunch buffet. It's pretty average price for an Indian Food buffet ($8.50). The service was definitely subpar. I don't think the guy said a word to us the whole time we were there; he just pointed and grunted. Star of India doesn't have a buffet but they have great service and they treat their customers well. Food there is also good relative to this buffet food. The food wasn't very good and the selection was pretty limited. The only items with meat were tandoor chicken (meh) and chili chicken (too salty). There wasn't even any curry. The paneer tasted bland and kidney beans were whatever as well. The cantaloupe tasted pretty good as did the rice pudding, but that is not the reason I came for lunch. I would not come here again for the buffet because overall I was disappointed. I didn't even leave stuffed as I usually leave other buffets!

  • David K.

Not that exciting. I love a good spicy vindaloo. This one bordered on vinegary, with tomato. Samosas werent too bad, may have been premade and frozen, Service was perfunctory.

  • Matthew K.

This is hands down my favorite Northern Indian/Pakistani restaurant in the midwest that I have been to. Wonderful breads, delicious curries, and great tandoori specialties that never disappoint.

    (5)
  • Brian R.

Access is not very good to get to this place but the food is very good. The curry and marsala was great. I think the tandoor chicken was meh. Would come back again.

  • Tom X.

Lunch special! last i checked it was around $7 for all you can eat. - the food does change but usually revolves around the same few dishes but they're quite good especially for the price -just be prepared to SMELL like indian food for the rest of the day if you come here for lunch but other than that, great value for lunch.

    (3)
  • Gulzeb N.

I went here for the lunch buffet. The atmosphere was good, the staff attentive, and price low. As for the food, it was generally good. I liked the entrees, and I especially liked the chaat, the kheer and the gaajar ka halwa. The bad points were that the tandoori chicken and the pakoras were too dry. I would have given 4 stars, except my sister found a hair in her food and stopped eating, which put a downer on everything.

    (3)
  • Dayle F.

Have eaten at Tandoor twice. Think what I enjoyed most was their appetizers and sauces. Curry is good. The Dal is yummy. Great naan. Definitely will go again. Oh, waiter was kinda stiff and unsmiling. Acted annoyed that we moved our plates. Didn't talk to us at all. Felt like an intrusion on his orderly table setting. But can't fault the food!

    (4)
  • Chirayu C.

I can tell you what the lunch buffet menu was yesterday. what it is today. what it ll be tomorrow. Frikkin' same! one word: recycle

    (2)
  • Beth D.

Great tandoori chicken and dal. The dishes are modestly spicy, but nothing overwhelming. The kitchen will spice it up for you if you ask. The naan is some of the best we've had. It's small inside, but pleasantly decorated. Overall it has a nice atmosphere and we've found the waitstaff to be very attentive and helpful.

    (4)
  • Derreck S.

I am definitely a fan of the Channa Masala and Naan. It's all love.

    (4)
  • Ronna H.

Oh yeah, probably my favorite restaurant! I've been told this is the best Indian food outside of India and I believe it! Everything is excellent. The lunch buffet is different each day, but always great and at about $8 it's an amazing value. The owners are great and very nice. They are closed Mondays, but check it out any other day.

Was just in the Toledo area with my girlfriend and wanted to find something good to eat that we could not eat at home. We decided to see if there were any Indian spots and to our surprise there were a few listed on yelp. We decided to give this spot a try since it was close to us. Wow!, this was a great great choice! Everything tasted perfect...at least to us. It is a small spot but nice for dinner. Everything was just great...except no one noticed that the darn cd they were playing kept playing the same song over and over and over...lol. Awesome Indian food at this place.

    Not impressed by the flavor.

I love Tandoor India. Whenever I am craving Indian (once a week) this is where I go. The vindaloo is absolutely amazing. The naan is so delicious. I usually order and pick up but whenever I have eaten in the restaurant, the service is pretty good. The waiters are quick to refill water but a little slow for everything else.

    (4)
  • sarah c.

WOOHOO! As Good as it gets! Yes thats right. Indian food has never had it so good. Literally have dreams about their buffet... always a family reunion meeting place for us... so much better than the other Indian restaurants in Toledo. Better than the few I've tried in New York too. Serious delicious. The lunch buffet is almost always the best thing ever.

    (5)
  • Jen S.

Recently moved back to Toledo (sad) -- still delicious!

  • Leigh K.

My friend had been to Tandoor before and it did fine in a pinch on the way to DC for a craft fair. It was cozy, clean, and the water was refilled regularly. The buffet was just alright, but that's because I am spoiled by all my favorite buffet places on Devon in Chicago. I would definitely not mind stopping back here again though. Maybe next time I'd order off the menu though.

  • Sandra B.

This place has really good chicken korma - I really enjoy it. The only things I have had from this place is the chicken korma, vegetable samosa, garlic naan and mango lassi - All were very good. It is pretty true to spice. I haven't ordered much else, but if you are in Toledo and really want Indian, this place will quench your craving. I really do like this place, but I wouldn't go so for as to say that this is the best Indian that I have ever had. For Toledo, I don't think it gets any better. I usually get takeout, but have dined in a couple of times. The atmosphere is ok - a little dark inside though. Take note to the fact that it is closed on Mondays.

  • Anita K.

I consider myself an Indian food connoisseur and this place is AMAZING! I spent some time living in London where there are Indian joints on every corner but who knew I would find the best Indian food in North America in Toledo, OH?!? Get Chicken Korma and Garlic Naan. Great, great, great.

    (5)
  • Rachel M.

I like this place because I really like Indian food, and its one of the few places in NW Ohio that serve decent Indian food. That said . . . as with most places that offer a buffet, you get a much better experience ordering from the menu, and sure it will cost a little more, but the food is far better. I particularly enjoy the ginger lamb kababs, they are very moist and full of flavor. I vaguely recall trying a korma or bryani and found that quite tasty. I agree with the other reviewers about the buffet, a little limited, and a bit of a let down, but not bad for the price.

  • Laura P.

It was a Sunday afternoon and we were driving through Ohio. All the other places on our GPS were not answering their phones so we somehow ended up at Tandoor. The dining room was small but half full, so we figured that it couldn't be that hit-or-miss. The lunch buffet comes with spice tea, roti (no samosas! boooooo!), 5-6 entrees, dessert (rice pudding, "mango pudding", orange slices). The tandoori chicken were all drumsticks (boooo!). The owner was kinda surly, but for $6.95, whatever. I rather put my money there than the Bob Evans next door.

    (3)
  • Bryce S.

Conveniently located off I-80 / I-90, this is a good restaurant for taking a buffet lunch break. Chicken tandoori was the only meat available, and it was almost all dark meat. There were about 4 additional hot items from spinach to tasty kidney beans, to okra. Dessert was in the form of mango pudding with fruit chunks that one would've thought was mango, but ended up being cantaloupe (?!). Still, for $7 it's a good deal.
