Simply put, I love this place. Upon arrival, I too, noticed a smell. However, it reminded me so much of my grandma's house that it stopped me dead in my tracks (but that was a good thing). The waitress was very good, not too overbearing, and gave us plenty of time to look over everything. The hummus appetizer is great, I just ditched the onions on it though - would have rather replaced them with more cucumber. The drinks were also very good, especially the dirty martini. Dinner was the blue cheeseburger, along with the house salad with the cottage cheese dill dressing and steak Diane. Both were good, but the burger was PERFECT and wasn't too stuffed with cheese, and the dressing was good and they didn't give you so much that you drown your salad. The rolls with the salad were slightly doughy, which I prefer and a hint sweet. Dessert consisted of some sort of strawberry lemon shortcake, along with the peppermint ice cream. All in all, my regret is that I didn't come here years earlier, as it is a 2 minute drive from the house. Plus, I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses over a chain. This will be our new regular spot; we love it. Yes, the second youngest table to us was probably age 65 but the place has a friendly, neighborhood vibe. It was also cute to see a couple in their 80s on a date next to us. Great food and atmosphere that was a little over 100 bucks for an appetizer, 2 entrees, 4 drinks, 2 desserts, and a 25% tip. Can't wait to come back; I hope the piano player is back next time.

Ok but I must have eaten at a different place than the others ... First, there is an odor ... Fish? Mold? Second, our meal was pretty poor. The clam chowder was so pasty, that my wife tasted it with a fork. The waitress noticed and offered to reheat if with some milk. My medium rare burger had no trace of pink. On the other hand, the service was good, the drinks well-made, and there was live piano music. The place was crowded at 9 on a Friday night. It had a neighborhood restaurant vibe. Perhaps we just had an off- night for the kitchen?

The Rack Of Lamb was amazing !! My friend got the salmon and said was ok. My wife got the filet said it was perfect. My cousin got the teriyaki chicken said the sauce was the best.. Most of all the staff and owners were very friendly .. 5 star

I've been to this place a decent amount in the past 3 years. Its atmosphere is completely quirky and I love it! The crispy duck special is great (with a great orange sauce), and the teriyaki sauce is TO. DIE. FOR. I get a side of it every time I go if the entree I get doesn't already have it (when you get home fries with onions its the perfect dipping sauce). I have to say Tong is amazing with sauces and dressings. For the side salad I always get the spicy Korean dressing - it really has a kick and a really nice flavor. Drink wise - I've only ever had wine - but they have a nice Malbec! Its a bit hard to find but I say its worth a try, especially on a chilly night!

We'd had such high hopes as we'd read the four reviews which were all that was there when we decided to go here. On walking in, after seeing how small the restaurant is, we noticed a musty odor to the place rather than smelling food. The place is quaint though, cozy. The tables mainly seat four. And all the seating is meant for small framed people. Our appetizer of onion rings were frozen ones, and of a small portion. They are a rip off for the $6.95 they charge. The salads were from a bag with one slice of tomato and one of cucumber added. Not at all what a place like this should be serving. My dinner was the garlic shrimp. There wasn't much sauce, and it didn't have much flavor, the rice clumpy. It wasn't bad, but nothing memorable in any way. Hers was a burger, which was cooked just as ordered, and extremely good. The pickles on it though were wretched, and my wife who loves nearly all kinds of pickles discarded them. The onion was inedible. Way over priced for the food. We won't be going back.

Mac and Tong's draws the 50+ crowd much in the same manner that a flame attracts moths. Something about the cozy retro atmosphere and conservative menu, I tell ya. We were, without a doubt, the youngest customers of the evening. Mac, the owner, was quick to swoop in on our table and to greet us, while our server was quick to fire off the daily specials and provide recommendations of her own. Tong, on the other hand, was concocting deliciousness in the kitchen. I have always been told that the place was especially known for its steaks and the like, so ordering was relatively easy. One look at the portion size of my NY strip entree served with M&T's unique teriyaki sauce is enough to induce hypertension in healthy individuals. My boxing half of the dish home was a good indication that portion sizes are beyond inflated here. Additionally, the cooking was superb enough to warrant a box. I should also add that pre-meal consisted of a warm and hearty bread basket and soup/salad. That being said, I would like to see this place offering more dessert options. Someone must have pressed the snooze button while thinking up of the two choices (not made in house, btw): peppermint ice cream or chocolate mousse cheesecake. In conclusion, a smidge of pizzazz and a dash of flair to the sweets menu is what the restaurant needs.

Very disappointed, our 40 th wedding anniversary and we choice to spend it here, with all the great reviews. My nutty pickerel was burnt and my baked potato was cold. The appetizer hummus was very good. A lot of money 100 dollars and a very disappointing evening. Also the young waitress needs to get a voice couldn't hear her the whole night.

Recently went here for a birthday dinner. Walking in Mac greeted our group with a huge smile and jokes. I knew right then this place was different. The decor in this place brings you back to the 60's, from the couches along the walls to the mirrors on the ceiling. We were seated and the waitress promptly took our drink order, I took one sip and knew we were in the right place. Holy shit were those babies stiff, which is always a good thing in my book. The only weird thing was that it took abnormally long to get menu's, the waitress explained that she was waiting for them, apparently they don't have enough or something. It didn't really bother me though as I was concentrating on my drink and everyone at the table was having a good time. Once we received menus I ordered the Steak Au Poivre. The rest of the group ordered the Steak Diane. I can honestly say that it was one of my top 2 steaks I've ever eaten. The sauce was incredible and the steak was cooked perfect. I raved about it while eating and at one point was accused of having an affair with a steak. It was that good. The only bad spot was that my girlfriends steak was way overcooked. All in all it was a fantastic meal, and the atmosphere was unique to say the least, we will definitely be going back. One more thing: be prepared to be surrounded by white hairs if you go there early, pretty sure the average age 65 when we first showed up, but by the end of the night younger folks had begun to show up.

Great steak. I would rank it above Mancy's believe it or not.

Fabulous food! Great steaks . Excellent seafood - love the crispy pickerel. The owners really get to know the customers and go out of their way to please. We live out of town now and the first place we always go when back in Toledo is here! We were in town from Denver for 6 days, and 2 dinners were at Mac + Tongs. Rack of Lamb, Nutty Pickerel, Rockburger Salad.... can't get enough. Tong is a kitchen magician!

I felt like I was in a laid back part of Las Vegas in the late seventies where rich people would go to get away from the crowds. The inside was really fun with lounge chairs as booths. The menu was similar to an upscale steak house but without all the hype and overly stiff waitstaff. You want a good Seafood and Steak place with quality but not stuffy, get it here. Plus, far from the beaten path by most Toledo standards. The bar looked fun too. Only the drinks are stiff.

I recently stumbled upon this cute little restaurant. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing with dim lighting, live piano playing in the corner and the option to sit on couches for booths. Every dish we ordered was enjoyed and the mac-a-rita's are fantastic. We actually had the pleasure to speak to Tong and were given a few of the secret ingredients. I do recommend a designated driver if you order more than one of these!

Bone-in rib-eye + stir fried cabbage + salad with korean dressing = VERY happy Jordan. Love coming here, they treat me like family!

I went to Mac and tongs very hopeful, and find myself extremely disappointed. The ambiance is less than desirable for a meal that costs over $75.00. Not only was our waitress terrible and rude, but the owner openly reprimanded several members of the waitstaff. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day here, they could really use the makeover.

This place is near my house, but I never stopped in until recently. And I'm so glad I did! While it seems to attract an older crowd, but there's no reason it should appeal to anyone who likes a fine dining experience (though it isn't a "fancy" place). The food is just really, really good. And the service is super-friendly. I will be back soon!

Mac & Tong's Place is one of the best places in the Toledo area to get a high quality, romantic dinner. Hands down. If you go often enough, they will remember your favorite drinks, remember your name, and if you're lucky, they'll sit down with you and talk while you enjoy your meal. But heck, even if you only go a few times you'll love it. The steaks and seafood are all perfectly prepared. My dad LOVES the "nutty pickerel" which is a pan fried fish covered in a beautiful brown coating of nuts. If you like fried fish, you will love this dish. My preference is to let Tong decide what she is going to make for me. I am a huge seafood fan, and all I have to do is say to the waitress "let tong know I want some seafood" and soon out of the kitchen will come some sort of Korean inspired number. Sometimes it will include GIANT shrimp, and sometimes like my last visit it will have scallops. When you let Tong decide what you're going to have for dinner, it will always have a little spice, some sort of luscious sauce and you'll no doubt end up way too full, having to eat every single bite she plates. The servers are pretty old school, and a little goofy. The lighting is dim, and there are mirrors everywhere. The customers are all mostly in their 50's, 60's and older. Sometimes there is live entertainment by way of a piano player. The mixed drinks are poured very stiff. All of this adds up to the perfect combination for a romantic dinner with your loved ones, and your friends. Mac & Tong's is the polar opposite of a chain restaurant experience and every visit will offer you fun new quirky experiences, and fantastic flavors. Pro tip: the hummus is surprisingly good, and we think quite possibly the best in town EVEN WITH all of the amazing middle eastern restaurants Toledo has to offer

This quaint little place tucked in the Ottawa Hills Shopping Center is truly one of Toledo's hidden gems. You may remember "Our Place" from years ago fondly, and if so be happy to know that Mac & Tong have returned with a yummy place to eat. The menu is a mix of great steaks, rack of lamb, fish (nutty pickerel is a popular fave), pastas and burgers. I enjoyed the rockburger salad last night... and our table shared some pretty incredible hummus and wings (not on the menu... just ASK). The dining room is comfy, not very large, and usually filled with an older crowd. There is a curvy bar with a piano. Order a Mac-a-Rita. The cottage cheese dill salad dressing is great.

I really like this place. Very intimate and delicious. Mac and Tong spoke to us at some point in the evening. Great people and food. Tong is a chef work horse who makes some awesome food. Even Dustin, a very big yelper and Mac and Tong fan was there. It was Valentines Day. I was with my girlfriend and we both enjoyed it. Peppercorn Steak was awesome and filled me to satisfaction. Yes,I will be back. Loved the piano music and retro decor. Yes, the drinks are stiff and delicious. I'll be back for yet another memory of sipping a sumptuous Old Fashoined in the earth toned splendor or 1972. Never mind the negative reviews...create your own experience, you too shall eat the evening ecclectic with Mac and Tong.

Quite frankly, I really wish Toledo had some great places that were not chains. Mac and Tong's is NOT that great place. The other reviewers are right - the place stinks - there is a moldy, musty smell that permeates the whole place. I have tried them four times now over the past 12 months and I have made my last visit. Service is incredibly slow - twice of the four times we waited over 20 minutes just to get menus. The food is mediocre and not served with any style at all - all in all, the food is not presented as well as an Applebee's or Max & Erma's. It is clear that there are regulars there who eat there often and I guess that is why the place can stay in business. I will not be back.
