One star, and here's why: We got 2 separate rooms down the hall from each other. When our friends opened their room you could tell the room next door had been smoking weed. Okay, fine. We decided to just walk across the street to Sonic and let the room air out a bit, but when we got back the smell was still really strong. My friends decided to call the front desk, and the hotel staff presented them with a can of room spray and told them to shove a towel under the door that they shared with the room next door. Now, I get it. People smoke weed. Let's ignore the agreement that you sign saying there is a $250 fine for smoking in your room. (The staff didn't even try to intervene with the guests in the next room.) But I just don't think the first solution should be "Here, you deal with this." My friends then requested a new room, which they got, but geeze.

Well, what better to do on a cold snowy Saturday than to go to a water park! We bought a groupon yesterday and had no problem booking our room and wristbands for today. We checked in, and were given our room key and wrist bands. We headed up to the room, and I was apprehensive due to reading others reviews. Well, thanks yelpers, you nailed this one on the head. How do I say this? Well, the room was/is disgusting. The kind of place where you don't want to take your shoes off, and you certainly don't want to crawl into bed, for fear of what already has.. The bathroom,as soon as you shut the door you are presented with a pile of pubic hair that obviously hasn't been cleaned up for months, maybe years. It's apparent that the house cleaning staff isn't required to clean where they don't look. Needless so say, you may not want to stay overnight here. Now, the water park. It is simple, and for my kids, fine. It has some fun slides which they loved, and a lazy river. The hot tub fits about 30 people, and on average there are 30 people in it. Kinda creeps me out, hoping lots of chlorine was used. I know, I sound like a clean freak snob, but I guess I expect when you pay for a service, you shouldn't have to worry about catching something. Two stars for the fun my boys had, they spent hours sliding. I guess that is worth something! Would I come back? Probably not. There are much nicer water parks

Pass this place over, rude patrons, not a place for kids, couples making out and more in the hot tub. Wcome back! 90% of the patons are morbidly obese stuffing their faces with food in the pool area, disgusting!!!

Pretty terrible place to stay! Our room is right at this center party area by the arcade, it's so loud! It is 11:30 pm right now and all we have the tv up loud because all we can hear is children screaming and someone dribbling a basketball. Apparently quite time is midnight, although I am not sure how they are going to enforce it. Not a fan of this place at all, Kalahari and great wolf lodge are much much better.

This place was so bad I wish I could give it less than three stars. They gave us a ticket when we went in for trip adviser so I was eager to leave a review and left one halfway into my stay. I wish I could go back and edit it to make it worse. The only good things: - Most staff was friendly except front desk employees - Breakfast was good and warm - Water park slides were fun - Rooms were clean when we arrived The bad (Short Version): - No healthy breakfast options - Decor was tacky and dated - Only got housekeeping once in 6 days/5 night and we had to call twice for it - Shower didn't drain properly, no repair after multiple complaints - Stains everywhere - One outlet over was cracked and loose, we were afraid to use it - Moldy ceiling - Broken outside light - VERY rude lifeguard - No temperature control on A/C - My car was broken into in the parking lot - Frayed carpet - Hard Beds - Thin Walls So here is the long story: I noticed the first night (wednesday) that the shower didn't drain when I showered which left me in dirty water halfway up my knees by the time I finished. I called the front desk on the phone and they said they'd send maintenance. They didn't arrive. The second day we asked for more towels and sheets, but otherwise sent housekeeping away. Friday we didn't get housekeeping again. That night my mom locked her keys in her car on accident. She asked the front desk if there was anything they could do to help. They said they didn't offer that service. The security guard (a very nice elderly man) offered the name of a company that could do it, but didn't know the number. My mom asked for a phone book and they said, "No, there's one in your room." So they wanted her to go all the way back to the room for a phone book that was right next to them. Saturday at 7pm we had no housekeeping STILL. So we called again at 9 and they finally showed up. They were also very kind and brought lots of extra coffee and shampoo for us. We told them about the shower and they called down on the walky talky for maintenance. They were told another room needed housekeeping. They said they were still working and when they finished they called down again and got no response. Sunday I went to the waterpark and rode a few slides. I decided to go through the lazy river. In there a lifeguard grabbed my tube and flipped me over. I said, "Really, dude? NOT OKAY!" And then he told me, "Aw, you were supposed to go under." and proceeded to splash me. Very rude. I went out of there fuming mad and complained about it, the housekeeping, AND the drain still not being fixed to the front desk. They said they'd take care of it all. I went to leave and found my car had been broken into. There was dirt all over my seats and someone had stolen my cd's and a few dollars in change. Not the hotel's fault, but still something to be aware of. My mother went back to the room and found someone had put a do not disturb sign on the door, but it wasn't any of us since none of us had been in the room since breakfast that morning. So again we got no housekeeping. Monday morning was checkout and we got no housekeeping in the time that we were there before checkout and the shower drain still hadn't been fixed. When I complained again at checkout they asked me what I wanted them to do about it. I asked if I was entitled to any sort of compensation because at $168 a night, I really expected better. They offered me 25% off my bill which was better than nothing. I wouldn't stay here again if someone paid me to.

Unless you are DeSpeRATeLy trying to entertain children, stay somewhere else. The room decor is nice, but this place lacks the amenities of basic hotels. The room service was closed by 9pm on a Saturday night. You cannot even use the hot tub or pool without a waterpark pass. The fitness center is sadder than neglected home workout machines in a middle-class subdivision basement. The "breakfast" was sugar-smack-loop-flakes, sodas, eggs, and potatoes. NO FRUIT or yogurt. And they ran out of juice. One last thing, my room's ice bucket didn't have a lid.

Decent place to take the kids but if you get a room in the "twilight zone" section of the hotel your kinda screwed. Both tv remotes did not work and the front desk could or would not help with that. Food is OK here. If I had to guess this place will be closed in a year. We won't be back.

We got a Groupon for a night with the kiddos. Here's the deal: The good: the kids like it. The water park is clean and there are plenty of lifeguards. There's a few slides, lazy river and play area for kids. Not huge or a whole lot but its kid friendly. The rooms are decent and the kids bunk beds are cool in their own separate area. The food at the grille is good. The bad: the staff is rude beyond belief. At breakfast one of the staff almost burned a girl with a tray of sausage and yelled at her to move. The public restrooms are disgusting. The entire place needs scrubbed. The carpet in the halls have obviously not been cleaned or vacuumed in months. The stairs are worse. Wear your shoes everywhere. Neither one of the TVs in our room worked, despite calls to the front no one ever came to fix them. We had to plug and unplug them for on and off and channels were unable to be changed as well as volume. The fridge in our room didn't work either. Breakfast was standard but they ran out of everything from forks to coffee and getting these items seemed a feat in itself (see rude staff comment). Overall, I'm glad we only spent one night. I think Groupon is the only thing keeping this place in business. They need serious overhaul. If they are here in 2 years I would be surprised. I would never ever pay full price. Cleanliness: 1 Customer Service: 1

Okay..... When we first arrived at 10am we went up to the desk to get our room, the "gentleman" up there was a rude and prissy little pr*ck, acted like he was better than Jesus himself. He told us our room isn't ready, when we asked politely when it was going to be he responded in a snappy manner "ROOMS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE READY UNTIL 4:00, we said okay thank you and he turned his head like a little schoolboy. Okay whatever moving on.... The waterpark was fun and most of the staff was very helpful, the food was good and the location is perfect, a little over packed on Saturday but it's like that everywhere. The front desk needs more than just 2 people working at it if there are 40 people in line, just saying, I honestly felt bad for the people working up there they were taking all the heat, WITH NO MANAGER IN SITE! THEY HAD THE JANITOR WALKING AROUND APOLOGIZING TO ALL IF US FOR THE LONG LINE, the janitor BTW needs a raise because this guy is a remarkable human being, but seriously WHERE IS THE MANAGEMENT?! Hiding behind a fake palm tree somewhere? Still overall a nice environment with a fun waterpark.

They have an arcade and the token machine was broken. So I went to the front desk and was told they were out of quarters and go to the gas station to get quarters. By the management, who was very rude. The room was tiny and we had a window to this massive space where nothing was going on. So going to bed was like going to bed during the day . Not to mention they have no dinner options. Unless you want bad ballpark food. Spend a few bucks and go up the road you will be glad you did.

If I could leave no stars I would. This place was dirty. The water park was tiny and they had no clean towels. The breakfast buffet was a joke. I will not be back.

This atrocity of a "resort" doesn't deserve even one star. The place is a total rip off. When we got there, the staff at the counter was incredibly rude and unwelcoming, and we were told that two of the main attractions would be closed until further notice. Way to charge an individual the full rate when the two slides that appeared to be exciting were out of order. The remainder of the water park catered to younger kids, aside from the lazy river, which wasn't anything to write home about either. Not to mention that the rooms were filthy and there was mold cultivating throughout various areas of the hotel. You'd assume that the owners/staff would actually care about visible mold in their "resort". It's obvious that they don't, and obvious that this place needs some serious improvements. Seeing that our experience was affected by a good portion of the attractions being closed, I called the resort and received compensation from their staff. Never again. Avoid this place at all costs. Paying the extra $100 or so for a room at Kalahari or Great Wolf Lodge is worth it.

Great hotel. Stayed here comped for a night since I am a blogger who was visiting a nearby attraction. Pros: FANTASTIC waterpark! My friends and I spent about 2 hours there. The slides are great as is the lazy river, hot tub, and the pool where you can play basketball. Breakfast - lots of hot options which surprised me, I thought it would mostly be a continental breakfast (though they do have cereal and bagels too if that's more of your preference). Room keys - instead of standard keys you have a carnival-type wristband, which gets you into the waterpark and also into your room (you swipe it near the key reader). Very interesting/novel idea, but kind of annoying to wear at night and in the shower - it doesn't come off until you cut it off, pretty much. WiFi - free! And apparently Sandusky doesn't have a lot of Verizon towers, I found, so this was useful. The only con I experienced was that the water pressure was not great - not a lot of water coming out of the shower spigot. This hotel is also a 10 minute drive to Cedar Point, which is definitely a pro :).

I booked my room with a Groupon at $110 a night. I would have never payed full price for this place. We knew going in that it was a smaller water park. I also knew that it was an existing hotel that they added the water park on. The staff was friendly but they were understaffed so this caused delays. The room was good except for the stains on the carpet & the carpet by the doors was frayed, but this is an older hotel with a newer water park. Now to the actually water park. I don't know what chlorine they use but it stuck with you. I had a sore throat they whole time we were there, my throat would completely dry up within 10 minutes of being in there, & every kid in there was coughing. That last one might not be from the chlorine but I doubt every kid had a cough before visiting. The lifeguards looked like "the bigger water parks rejects" as my husband put it. They were splashing kids & adults on the lazy river, they were not correcting kids who were horse playing in the water, they were downing energy drinks like it was cool & really were not paying attention at all. I watched one lifeguard walk around with his head down the whole time, doing air drums & worrying about if his tat on his arm was showing. All the railings had rust on them, I was afraid I would have to get a tetanus shot if I used them. You could see dirt in the puddles on the floor. The hot tub was full of kids playing around. The water in all the pools was cold. All in all I guess you get what you pay for.

If you are looking for quality hotels that are over 2 stars they are HARD to find in Sandusky - this hotel is basic and does not have much going for it. Much of the hotel is a former outdoor Holiday Inn remodeled to be indoor, lets just say the remodel was not done very nicely. Signage for the hotel is extremely poor, and frontage roads and parking are poorly labeled. Interior signage in the hotel is typically printer paper taped up with scotch tape. If you are used to staying in a Super 8 this hotel will meet your standards.

Dirty. Rude patrons. People saving 10 chairs when nobody is with them in sight. Hogging rafts that are needed to go down slides. Pushing in front of you in lazy river. Way overcrowded. Used pad was on the step to go up the watersides both days we were there, nobody moved it or cleaned. I would not go back here. Yes it is cheaper than comparable waterpark/ hotels but you get what you paid for. And to the fat man that asked me to move because you were saving 10 chairs and then never even sat down I hope you enjoyed yourself.

I booked my room through Hotwire and got a great deal. The room I booked is normally $108/night and my deal was $70/night. I was in room 2116, a Queen Lilly room with 2 queen beds and on initial glance it was pretty standard. Unfortunately the room smelled TERRIBLE. They had obviously done some kind of deep cleaning and used too much commercial deodorizer which may have done more harm than good. The hotel itself has a main building, and a 2nd building that was added on in the back. Room 2116 is in that back building and the wifi was apparently out in that building. I called the front desk and the apologized, said they would try resetting it, and to call back if it didn't work. I called back after 10 minutes and it still wasn't working so they immediately offered to move me to a different room. I was pleasantly surprised by their quick offer to move me, and I was *NOT* expecting the upgrade I got!!! My new room was in the main building and it was an amazing suite!! It had a livingroom, 2 bedrooms, and 2 full bathrooms. Everything was clean, no unpleasant smells. The linens were very clean and there were lots of nice pillows. It was great! I just wish the water park wasn't so overpriced. If it was a more reasonable price I would have enjoyed an afternoon there during my visit. They are currently charging $39.99 for adults, which is the same price that Kalahari charges but Maui Sands water park is less than 1/2 the size.

If you are looking for a hotel that has stained carpet, the rooms are never cleaned properly, and the food is horrible, then this is the place for you. In a 4 night stay, they only attempted to clean our room once, and even that was subpar (left us new towels, but didn't restock toilet paper or Kleenex, and actually REMOVED all of the soap from the room.). Breakfast consisted of standing in line for 30 minutes to get a plate of cold eggs & soggy pancakes, to go with a glass of warm orange juice. The food was so bad we opted to quit eating there and get McDonald's for breakfast after the first meal at the hotel. To top it off, the staff is rude if you dare to question anything.

Maui Sands resort is an awesome place for kids and family! It has a huge indoor water park...where water temperature is controlled. Hotel guests can make use of this water park whenever they want and as long as they want. This resort also provide several hot water jacuzzis; one of them is available on roof top. We relaxed in roof top jacuzzi under the shadow of stars. Hotel staff was very friendly, specially they have several life guards to make sure kids of all age can participate in water activities and be safe. I would love to visit this resort during winters, because you will not find water sports at any other place when it is snowing outside, except Maui Sands.

We got a Groupon deal for Maui Sands and decided to try it out with our two year old. We got our room, a little dated but some things were updated, it was clean but we had no view. not a big deal. The water park was a lot of fun, with a decent bar for the parents to grab an adult beverage or three. Needless to say, it was a fun couple of days and the price was right. The food is what you'd expect from a water park.

This is our second year going here on a Groupon. Last year it included lunch and breakfast, this year we got none of those perks but knew our young kids (5yrs and 3yrs) enjoyed it, so we decided to come again. We got there Saturday at 11am with another family and when I went to check in my receptionist said our room was not ready, but 3 minutes later our friends checked in finding out both our rooms were ready???? So we were able to check in with our rooms across from each other, but disappointed to find out we could have had adjoining rooms as their room had a door in between, and we had requested being next to them a month a go when we booked. Parking was horrific as they have had a lot if snow and only plowed 1/4 of the parking lot across the street. It was very quiet in the waterpark until 3pm which was very nice! Only other big negative was an employee plunging a toilet next to us, that had been clogged the last two times we used the bathroom, and water over flowing all over the floor while we were in the stall! After attending two years in a row, we know what to expect and our kiddos do have fun!

We got our package through Groupon - $115 for a room for 6 and 6 waterpark passes, pizza dinner. Figured it had to be pretty bad to not be worth it for the Redhead and her buddies to have a weekend away in the winter. For a $100, we did ok. Room was about a 3 out of 5. The "Kid's Suite" was basically a closet with 4 built in bunks and a TV. The beds are small - one of our teens could barely fit. No door on kids room, so if you have to go to the bathroom or get in the mini fridge, you'll wake them. We found dirty linens and trash at our door when we got into our room, and after no one had picked up by 5, we tossed into the hallway. Wi fi sucked. No way around it. The lobby is poorly designed -- first, the checkin desk is about 5 feet from the double doors that open and close. Some genius decided to create a huge built in seating area as well, so the lobby area is congested to the point of claustrophobia. The only onsite food is a "quick service" snack bar with food reminiscent of a AA ballpark. Dogs, so-so pizza, nachos. TINY seating area... most people took the food into the park, which added to the congestion (more on that later.) There was a free breakfast, but given that the "dining area' seats 50 at best, the battle to get near the line, much less near the food, made it not worth the effort. Found a great local place (more on that in another post.) The water park is a 2 out of 5 at best. Water is not warm - probably because there are 3 external doors that open into the waterpark area. Walking around the park is an exercise in dodging cold breezes. The tube slides are pretty good, but the lines are long and tubes are hard to come by. I did not ride the body slides but the Red Head and her buddies gave them a 3. Hot tub? No. Kiddy pool full of moms with babies in diapers and kids playing grab *ss. In addition, water was warm, but no where near hot tub temps. And the congestion? HOLY CRAP. You could not walk in the place. I understand selling day passes to keep the lights on when there are not a lot of guests, but the hotel was full of grouponers (we had to reserve the room by December 31!) and they had still packed the place with daypass guests too. No capacity planning at all. Hubs, who is the least snobby person in the world, even noted the high percentage of "riff raff." The tattoo to tooth ratio was not positive. In all, for $100, not bad. Full price? NEVER. I'd head to Great Wolf or Kalahari if I want to spend real money.

I did not stay at this hotel. We did the day in the waterpark through a Groupon offer. So this review is for the water park only. All the staff were very friendly and there were plenty of lifeguards throughout the water park. The place was very clean and there is plenty of seating areas throughout. The changing areas are small and few, as it get busy, but adequate. They have a good selection of rides and things to do. I paid $49 for the groupon for 4 people to get into the water park and i had to pay tax at the front desk of about $5.00. Locker rental was $10 which is non refundable and that part i think is a bit of a rip off as the lockers are small. I am a fan of the water park at the price I paid, wouldn't pay the full price. However the one major draw back was the food. The snack counter was small and we only ordered a pretzel and fries with cheese dipping sauce. The prices were as expected in an amusement park but the quality was very poor. The "cheese dipping sauce" was disgusting and tasted like throw up. I would recommend if you are going here for the day, to expect to be disappointed by the food, or to venture out to one of the area restaurants for a mid day break and then go back to Maui Sands.

I have nothing but good things to say about this water park. This is our second year coming to this hotel. I admit when I first walked in last year I was disappointed at the size of this water park. It's very small compared to the other ones nearby. And after I checked in and saw how amazing the rooms were and how incredible the staff was the size no longer mattered. I have stayed at the bigger resorts and was treated horribly! Maui Sands makes each of their guest feel so special and like part of their family. The life guards play and interact with the children ,which makes it more fun for them. The longer I was there I realized that being smaller made it more of a home like feel and I didn't have to worry about my son getting lost in the crowds. They serve a very nice free buffet breakfast every morning. All staff is sweet and seems happy to be there instead of dreading another day at work. If you stay here I highly recommend getting a suite . The room is awesome and so fun for the kids! 2 sets of bunk beds an separate TV's and sleeping area for adults & children. The whole park is so clean and kept updated. And the value is the best. I don't think anyone around could beat their value for what you get!

What made my family's trip bad could easiliy be fixed. Freezing cold air streaming into the lobby. No way to regulate the air temp in the hotel room. The staff didn't know simple answers. Not enough tubes to ride. Not enough fresh towels, and they were like the size of wash cloths. As a 6' 1" man it was almost useless - not to mention sand paper is softer. Cold air coming in from outside made walking around the pools uncomfortable. The entrances weren't cleared of snow and ice as if a high schooler just didn't care enough to do a proper job with a shovel and salt. The wifi was awful. I could go on and on but it's enough. My wife and her cousin did a Groupon but it's not worth it. All the little details that make for such a great experience are lacking. Not going back.

Was not the best stay I've had. The room next to us invoked the police. Water park to spread apart. No ready access to the rides. Breakfast was ok. The steps in the water park are very rough on your feet. Rooms are ok. The toilet lid was cracked on the back. Curtains are the darkest at night. You could see through.

The park was freezing. The rides weren't enjoyable because you were shivering too hard. The hot tip was lukewarm and cold water kept getting g pumped in. The temperature in the park made it miserable to stand in line for rides. Not worth even the discounted rate. I will spend more for Kalahari.

We just got back from Maui Sands last night so I do know up to date information from there. First things first - I don't know what the problem was with all the other reviewers, the "resort" was ultimately clean, not well decorated, and the check in line was very long with a rude older lady and another female running the front desk by themselves. It's obvious the "resort" is missed managed but that being said there was some perks. The slides were incredible, I'm 25 and they were actually scary! You have to carry your own tube up so that's a bit of a pain. It's going to be exciting to see what they build in the remaining portion of the Holi dome section - heard its going to be a wave pool and surf simulator. Overall our room was nice, clean, the bunk beds were rough for the teenagers but they can sleep on anything. The king bedroom had doors on it - if you've been to the Sandusky area you know the rooms even though they claim to be separated they don't have a door between the kids and adults bedrooms. Parking was a little rough but ended up parking right outside our room which was super close to the watermark entrance, ice machine, and car it was the perfect spot. The room was 4114 so if you're there see if you can get a room around that area. It was a really good time and I personally think way better than Castaway Bay.

Not all water parks are equal. Water park decent. No towels in room to start. Had to request toilet paper. Carpet frayed between tile and carpet transition. Bunks for kids nice, fits four with their own tv in a separate room from adults. I would come here again just doesn't compare to the other indoor waterparks in this area of Sandusky.

I purchased a Groupon to come here for the day with my children. What a disappointment!!! The waterpark is run down and there is not much to do. When we arrived, we found out that two of the major attractions (lazy river and lily pads) were closed due to a lack of lifeguard staff. The hotel manager was rude when I went to complain and basically told me "Too bad for you, you should have called this morning to check the status." Cudos to the lifeguard supervisor who was very polite and rearranged some of the lifeguard staff so that my girls could use the lily pads. Will not return to this establishment, Groupon or not! Spend a few extra $$ to go to a REAL waterpark!!!

So I got what I paid for;((( Got the deal off of Groupon. We took our 3yr daughter and she couldn't last more than 2 hours in the pool because the water was sooooo cold. Its February and its ohio people!!! The water needs to be in the high 80's. The room was gross and the bathroom was disgusting. My husband even said something about it, which we all know men don't notice anything like that. We got to the hotel around 3 and it took 25 min to check in. Got to the room and it was in the 60's. Yep, needless to say I wasn't thrilled to put on my suit. We will not be returning.

Groupon was $184 for 2 days 1 night stay, dinner and waterpark for 6 (there were only 4 of us so they would only give food voucher for 4. Check in at 4pm, took about an hour as everyone had same check in time. Room was actually decent ( waterpark was dirty, rusty everything, slides had black scum and furr in all stair corners) but was a lonnnggg walk from lobby/ waterpark and no elevators. Staff friendly. Dinner is pool snack bar and take your food back to waitressless diningroom. Bar was adjacent to dining room and had two drunk guys yelling Fuck this/ that in front of all the kids. I had to yell at these white trash to watch their language in front of our kids. (This is a childrens waterpark) Waterpark 75/25 black/ white trash. Got up for breakfast at 7am in order to get early start at waterpark. Bland home fries, biscuits and gravy (thickened water) litttle pancakes, tang. So, checkin first day was 4pm and was in line until 5pm- 2 hrs of tubing before dinner. Second day day check out was 11 am so we woke at 7am to get tubing in before check out. Waterpark openened at 11 am!!!!!!!!!!! Check out at 11!!!!!!! What do we do for 4 hours now? Checked out at 8, went somewhere else and came back for an hour before lockeroom shower prior to 2 hr drive home. $184 groupon and got maybe 3 hrs swimming in the ghetto ass pool.

Coming from New York City, we got to this place and check in took about 40 minutes. When they finally gave us our room, it was a Full size bed and four bunk beds, for FOUR GROWN ASS ADULTS. I clearly had gotten a double queen size room and they still managed to mess this up. Walked around the hotel looking for my room for another 20 minutes because they couldn't even give me proper instruction on how to find my room. I walked the Halls feeling like I was walking an abandoned mental institution. While I was on the search for my room, all I was seeing was food scrapes all over the hallways, very muggy, and dimmed lighting, giving me a very uneasy feeling. We arrived to the room where we see a second door inside the room across from the entrance with a broken off handle, with a sign reading "not an exit", very scary. Dusty furniture, no toothpaste provided, and broken down ice machine in our area. To top off the stay, what seemed to be maintenance, bursted into our room at 8am while we were still asleep, claiming there was a busted pipe and the room beneath us was having water leaking into their room! I've never experienced such a stay like this and I sure as hell will never be returning to this horrific location ever again! HORRIFIED.

Came here for the day with a groupon. If I hadn't gotten a discount to come here I would have given 1 star. Luckily I was not one of the people filling the lobby waiting to check in. The place is ok but what is really annoying is there are two tube water slides and the lazy river. Unfortunately you have to use the same tubes for both. Well none of the lifeguards at the water slides make people give up their tubes do other scan ride. People get tubes and hang on to them for the entire time they want to use them. And when I say entire time I mean their whole day. People keep them at their tables when not using them. Leaving everyone else unable to use the tube slides or the lazy river. It's just all around very poor organization within Maui sands.

We stayed here so we could spend the day at Castaway Bay without dropping $300 for a night. My fingers were crossed that it was as good as the internet said. We were pleasantly surprised!! Hotel is VERY clean and nice! Linens looked great. I wasn't scared to touch them. Pillows were GREAT! Continental breakfast was good, coffee wasn't that great, but that happens. Cannot WAIT for the water park to open! That is the only reason this place didn't get 5 stars. We will be back!!!

We just staying at Maui Sands, and even though the waterparks wasn't up and running they are well on their way to a great destination. The room was awesome, bedding, linens, and super clean. Already planning another visit, as the price now is great, we could sleep 6 for the same price as the motel 6 we moved from. 8 minutes from Ceder Point, 4 minutes from Kalahari, 24 hour diner called Diane's just up 250 / Milan road a few minutes.

I stayed here for 2 night weekend trip with my wife are I had a very good experience. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and the staff was very nice and had great service. They also have free breakfast which was pretty good. I was there mainly to visit Cedar point park and it turned out great because this place is located close to all the major attractions in the area. I would surely recommend this place if you are visiting this area

We came here at the Groupon rate. We had 3 moms and 4 kids. We won't be back....EVER. The water was freezing the air temp was nippy . There was also so much chorine steam it was blinding. At one point I saw lifeguards put ice in there eyes and they weren't even in the pool. The fire alarm went off 2 times for 30 min each after we wrapped all the kids in towels while in their swimsuits to run outside due to the fire we asked the front desk receptionist STEPH if there was a fire and rudely responded with "NO I keep telling everyone that!" Sorry we were annoying you STEPH we had small children to save. The curtains in the room are faux so the light from the parking lot shone on the master bed all night long. It honestly looked like noon at 5am when the first child went to the bathroom and looked outside and announced to the rest of the family it was time to get up because it was daylight. There is no bellhop or any place to hold your luggage while waiting PAST check-in time. The food was all fried and apparently the fridge was on the fritz because all the drinks we frozen in their own bottles and instead of pulling them out of the fridge to defrost they just keep shoving more in. The only positive thing I can say is that the lifeguards, a night shift manager who was an older African American man and our bar tender Rick were very nice. I hope one day they can find a job were they will all be appreciated more.

The new building is nice and the customer service is great. An employee gave me a lower rate than normal by mistake. When half of my party arrived we found out our reservation was cancelled. The manager gave us a room, however the air conditioner leaked all over the floor and the carpet was musty. They gave us a new room in the new building. We also were compensated a dinner for six. Just keep your paperwork and be stearn.

This was our first time going to this waterpark and from what I read on their website theirs is the second's largest waterpark in Sandusky ? Anyways, we have been to Great Wolfe, Castaway Bay and Kalahari before and after today I still think Kalahari has the best waterpark. Regarding Maui Sands my first impression upon approaching the building is that it looked abandoned. There is not enough signage directing you to the entrance nor right by the entrance. The lobby was very small and unassuming, sort of like walking into the lobby of a Super 8. The girl at the front desk was very courteous. We bought the passes for the waterpark and as soon as we entered we where all like- this is it??! The park was very small and not crowded at all. Needless to say we didn't stay long at all, maybe hour and a half to two hours, before my kids told me they were bored and wanted to go. The price of admission for this waterpark is definitely too high (39.00 per person) for what they have to offer. I would not recommend it and will definetely not be going back. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the staff was very courteous.

Okay, we just returned from a weekend at Cedar Point. We stayed at Hotel Breakers Sunday night, and at Maui Sands on Monday. This hotel is KILLER. The beds are probably the most comfortable things I have ever slept on, absolutely amazing. Like others have said, the keycard entrances is a great feature, and it is super cute with the Tiki feel (it is not obnoxiously decorated though). The WiFi is apparently too far of a reach for my room, 2114, as it was never available. No biggy all in all, if it was a big deal I would have asked to move. Great hotel, and I will most likely stay here in the future.

Purchased a Groupon for the Ohana Suite. The room was very nice, clean, even the kids area was nice. Check in is strictly after 3, we had to wait till 4 but were able to use the pool until the room was ready. The water park area was nice, bigger than Fort Rapids we went to last year. Great slides, lines move fairly quickly. The kiddie play area is great with three mini slides for little ones. The bar is a waste. Ordered two drinks and not even a tiny buzz, lol. I'd bring your own. Also bring bottled water, it's over $2 in the snack shack. There is also a Walmart right across the street. Plenty of life guards were on duty and towels were plentiful. They dump them into a giant bin near the baby pool. The breakfast buffet was good, $9 over 12 and $4.50 under 12. Which isn't bad, they have an omelet station, bacon, sausage, cold juice, coffee, etc. We went to Applebee's across the road for dinner. Wifi is iffy, but my 4G worked fine. It's also nonsmoking. There are several exits tho you can use near the park area. Over all we had a great time and would come back again. I could tell the staff and hotel owners are really trying to get this place back together and it shows. In my opinion it's better than Fort Rapids in Columbus for the price range.

We stayed at the resort thru a Groupon deal. The place had awful customer service. We did not get our room cleaned and they waited by our door on check out day at 10:50am. They did not give us any extra time checking out. Management is terrible at maintaining the facility. All the ice machines were broken except for 1 machine downstairs. The carpet seems moldy and dirty. We went with our two boys, 3 and 2 years old. We also had other nieces and nephews that went with us as well. The kids had a great time playing in the pool. Life guard on duty wasn't nice to us either. They kept yelling at my 3 year old for jumping in the pool. In the end, you get what you paid for. Don't expect a nice resort. Kids will have a good time running around.

Believe the reviews. This place is a dump! It's dirty, very worn, the staff is rude, and the clientele that thinks this place is ok have very low standards! Check in took 45 minutes. Got a crummy room with bunk beds, comforters were filthy and the beds weren't completely made. Carpet torn, things dusty, holes in furniture and tv stand, I itched the entire time. Freaked out if we had bedbugs! Arcade games were broken. Water park had no lockers available, and no towels available. Pool was over chlorinated. Moldy smell everywhere. The hotel was very noisy and kids and drunks ran freely through the hallways late at night. Finally got to bed around midnight, to be wakened by the fire alarm going off around 1:30 am! Another guest saw 2 teenagers pull the alarm and run away laughing! The hotel blamed it on a helium balloon in front of the fire sensor, but I heard those teenage jerks running through the hall too! The staff did not know how to shut the alarm off. A guest had to help unarm the noise once the fd was called. Guests were told to evacuate, but not all rooms were reached. The fire alarm went off again around 2:30am. I couldn't go back to sleep. I complained about the horrible stay and was offered a late check out. I said I need to get out of here immediately! The manager Stephanie said she would call me back and I never got a call. Don't waste your money on this dirty cess pool!

Used a Groupon. Once inside found out the four main slides where closed as the metal railings where rusted and unsafe, per the state. Adult hot tub closed, looked in bad shape. Staff was cleaning black mold off the sidewalks with a strong cleaner that was just washing into the pool. Pizza was good, ordering took 30 minutes, only 1 other person in line. Then fire alarm went off and staff was clueless about what to do. Just screamed at people in a unsafe rude way. I would skip and go to a real waterpark. Hopefully they fix this dump up.

This is just a place to sleep and leave. The building is clearly an older building. Its dark and musty, appliances were missing buttons, etc. The coffee pot for example was sticky and definitely not clean. Time for a remodel! The laundry detergent on the towels and blankets also made us all itch! Bad experience. The rooms are definitely overpriced and not worth what is being charged even with a groupon.

Got a deal from Groupon for this one before I even got a chance to read the reviews.Mistake.the one star is for the friendly & attentive life guards.thats it. Tip to everyone who's also getting their deals to Maui Sands from Groupon. If you get HURT here & was given an unsafe room for your family & kids , they are NOT going to apologize for your accident nor take responsibility for it .Not even going to ask how was your night or if your daughter cried herself to sleep ( yes she did!).A piece of METAL from the bed frame in our Queen Lily room was dangerously sticking out & scraped my leg & gave my dtr a small skin tear& bruise.Called maintenance & said the bed wasn't fit right & yes UNSAFE! All we can do is transfer ...transfer at 11o'clock and wake up all 3 tired kids?! Why not make sure the room is safe for occupancy before letting children in???? We could've ended up in an emergency room in the middle of Ohio & front desk will just flatly say "call Groupon" !

My stay here was good, so I'm not sure if they just learned from the previous reviews or they were having a good few days. But nothing quite negative to say on my end. Our room was clean and the bathroom was very spacious. Towels were clean along with the sheets. Can't complain there! The staff was super friendly when we needed anything- there was no attitude given. The layout of the hotel is a little confusing. It reminded me of going through a maze of some sort. Why the 4 stars? It's hard to find the entrance to this place! We almost went into the freeway ramp trying to get to the entrance. So beware future guests! Also, no wifi! Who doesn't have wifi these days at the hotel? That's needs to be fixed because going to McDonald's to use my phone was a nuisance. Other then that, good stay on my end!

We stayed because it was a holiday weekend and everywhere else was booked. It would not be a bad place if things worked. Half the water attractions were down. Half the arcade games were not working. About halfway through the day the computers went down so you couldn't order food. The coffee pot in the room didn't work. The best part was when people started complaining about all the non functioning portions of the "resort" the police showed up. Ghetto great wolf is the best descriptor.

If you like having the erie feeling of an abandoned insane asylum, this is your place, very scary. The water park is the only reason they got 2 stars from me. I hate to say it but the rooms suck, and a lot of them have a view to unpainted cinder block walls. If they would drop a million bucks on this place it could be a contender for castaway bay. But for whatever reason it has been dropped by a few investors according to a couple of employees (if that truly holds any water I have no idea), but it does make sense. Breakfast used to be included and was best on the block, now they charge! I don't think this could be truly called a resort like kalahari etc.

Gave it a star, because our 5 and 7 year old enjoyed the water area. Everything after that didn't go so well. Remotes needed batteries, had a paperclip to ensure curtains closed somewhat as huge windows face hallway, took our used towels but didn't leave new clean ones, front desk told me water park opened at 10 (didn't open till 11), there were no clean pool towels when we 1st arrived, and staff didn't have very good customer seevice. Place has potential, appears to need a remodel and new owners.

The hotel itself is old. Torn carpeting. They have 4 tube rides 2 were closed the first day of our stay. The lazy river was closed for 24 hrs., with no immediate plans to reopen. When these are the only attractions you have to offer I suggest you get better mechanics. Also we had no rooms service. After waiting and complaining all day for towels and for our room to be made it was done at 7pm. But after all this the worst part of this stay was the hotel mgr. who didn't even have the decency to acknowledge the situation just kept passing the buck to other people. Not if this was the last hotel would I ever stay or recommend this thotel. If my hands had 10 thumbs instead of 2. They would all be pointing down. Take my advice it's true you get what you pay for. Btw. Kalahari is worth every penny.

We bought a groupon for this place which included a standard room, waterpark passes for the whole family (4 of us) for both the check-in and check-out days, and breakfast in the morning for the whole family. The groupon was only $109 plus taxes, which resulted in $125 for the night, including everything listed above. With this in mind, I believe we had a very good deal and it was more than worth it. With that said first, I will give a few details about our stay, which include some positives and negatives. When we arrived around 4pm on a Friday, there were not very many people around, which was nice (especially when we went into the waterpark). While we waited to check into our room, the maintenance man introduced himself to us, welcomed us, and told us if there is anything we need to let him know. He was very friendly and a good first impression of the place. The staff behind the counter were friendly as well. I requested a room as close as possible to the waterpark (I found out that they are all pretty reasonably close) and I was accommodated by the staff, which I appreciated. When we arrived in our room, we were slightly disappointed. With the friendly staff and our view of the waterpark on the way in, we had a 5-star impression. However, the condition of our room knocked it down a peg. The carpet was a bit dirty, the furniture was dusty: the room was definitely not given the daily care that I would expect at a hotel room. I could've complained and asked fora different room, but I knew I would run the risk of getting the same thing in the next room, and we were happy with our location. Plus, we were eager to get to the waterpark. So we let the condition of our room go. I realize that not everyone would've let this go though. Mainly, it was just the floor and underneath the furniture and bathroom cabinets, you could tell it hadn't been detail-cleaned in a while. The good news is once we arrived in the waterpark, I could tell where this hotel puts all of the money and effort and maintenance. The waterpark was GREAT! Multiple slides for the adults, multiple kiddie pools and play areas, a giant hot tub, and a lazy river with a current. The water was at a pretty good temperature and as I mentioned earlier, it wasn't very busy on a Friday evening and night, so we were able to do it all as much as we wanted to. Saturday was a little busier, but not bad enough to warrant long lines. Another benefit was the full breakfast we were given in the morning that came with our groupon. We had all-you-can-eat eggs, pancakes, meat, fruit, cereal, juice, coffee, and more. The food was just okay, but we enjoyed the options. Our 3 year-old and 16 month-old had an absolute blast playing in the kiddie areas and on the lazy river in the tubes. My wife and I took turns going down all of the water slides multiple times as there was no waiting. We really enjoyed the waterpark experience and this is the reason we would go back. Again, I think we had a very good deal for what we paid for. I would recommend this place if you can handle the condition of the rooms.

Maui Sands is ok. Just ok. We come here every Black Friday. It beats shopping. Let's start with the bad.1) it's a little on the shabby side, as seen in some of the pics posted by others. The carpets are stained and ripped in some places. There is a need for more and better maintenance and housekeeping. 2) the breakfast buffet is extremely chaotic. There is no flow to how the lines should form and seating is a bit of a problem. Also plates and silverware were not being restocked fast enough. Now what I think is good. 1) this place is smaller than the other water parks and sometimes I just don't to deal with the crowds. 2) the rides they have suit my son very well. There is not an over abundance of toddler stuff. Tube slides, body slides, lazy river, small basketball pool, and a hot tub as well as the water playground. 3) there are mezzanines on either side to sit at. These mezzanines give you a full view of the entire waterpark. Sitting up there you have to be trying to lose your kid, if you can't see them. 4) the price. I'm kind of tired of people comparing this place to Kalahari. The price alone should tell you it's not Kalahari. I feel that comparison is like comparing Burger King to a burger at The B Spot. Yes technically the same thing, but their worlds apart. 5) the staff... Every time we come here the staff is extremely helpful and extremely friendly. Even in the chaos of the breakfast buffet the staff was running trying to keep up. When I asked one of the workers to bring out some silverware he apologized and immediately ran to bring some out. I can see they were running a little ragged yet they never took it out on the customers. So in the end I guess I'm saying that I will be returning. What it comes to a place like Maui Sands you have to keep your expectations realistic. You can't expect to buy caviar when you have enough money for just a hotdog. For the money I feel this place is definitely worth it

1 star I had a hard enough time doing that.this place is jank and absolutely nothing to do. Staff are absolutely rude at Water slides were down were told they would be and running that day. No restaurant a little place to get food but no restaurant. Tried to overlook and go in the waterpark but there was nothing it was pitiful water slides should have been FIXED !!!!! By now. Rooms dirty try looking out at a cinder block what a view . Go outside feels like your staying on a highway very loud. Not to mention the day of my arrival the fire alarm was pulled WOW what a inconvience come to find out it was pulled on other side of the building did not even here it !!! What if there was a real fire someone pulled the fire alarm!!!! Lady at the front desk absolutely rude !!!! Food sucked went to the Chinese buffet across the street better food then this place. If you are looking to go to a waterpark go to kalahari or great wolf lodge at least you know your getting awesome treatment and worth the money I will never show my face back in this place and no wonder $129 package all these people care about is there money this place needs much IMPROVEMENT and needs a inspection by the health inspector I honestly can't understand how this place stays open !!! And for all the health conscious people out there there's mold in parking lot 5 so beware if your room is in that area !!!!!

I'm always on the lookout for fun, inexpensive activities to do with my 6 year old. When I saw the Groupon for Maui Sands, I thought it sounded right up our alley. Here's the breakdown: The good: the waterpark was very clean. Lots of lifeguards. Everyone was pretty friendly. The food included with the deal was plentiful (pizza, pasta, dessert and drinks). They also had a complimentary hot breakfast - much better than I had anticipated. The price was good, due to the Groupon we got. The bad: the place is in desperate need of a makeover. I suspect we got a room in an older part of the hotel (no elevator access). We were realllllly far from the front desk. Once we learned the lay of the hotel, it wasn't that big of a deal, but still frustrating to lug our suitcases up the stairs. Our room was very dated. The carpet was stained. Our room had one queen sized bed, and two bunk beds (there were three adults and three kids; I slept in a bunk bed). The bunk beds in the kids room were tiny - smaller than a twin bed. I think if we hadn't been to Great Wolf Lodge before, we would have liked this place much better. As we were leaving, my friend said "they're not going to be around much longer." - I have to agree.

It's late here at Maui and I figured I may as well write a review while I'm awake. The Maui Sand "Resort" is called so because it is a place people would have to Resort to of they couldn't for any other reason go to Kalahari or Great Wolf. This ace is pretty awful. If you enjoy a tiny waterpark that and a cheap hotel (quality wise) then your opinion may differ but it is not busy here and I was able to enjoy convenience of smaller crowds then most reviews but this play is still pretty crappy. I didn't even have to pay for anything and I still would rather stick my head in a cold washing machine filled with bleach at home since that is what the place is like. You're lucky if you got a room with WiFi at all and they are small and very cheaply made. I would call this a poor man's Kalahari but that wouldn't be fair to even compare it to that place. Go somewhere else.... Seriously

We just got back from this hotel/waterpark. I took 2 10 year old boys, my 4 year old, and me. We had a GREAT time! This is an older property so if you are a clean/neat freak then you might want to go elsewhere. Yes it needs a good vacuuming and there is chipping paint here and there and the "banquet room" looks like something out of the 1950's but clearly Maui Sands has put their money into the waterpark and rooms. We stayed 3 days and 2 nights and did the waterpark all 3 days. My 4 year old was entertained the entire time between the kids play area, riding the lazy river with me and playing in the pool/whirlpool area in a complimentary life jacket. It is difficult to get an innertube and a couple times we waiting 10-20 minutes just so we could do the lazy river. The 10 year olds were entertained the entire time with the slides, pool, hot tub, and lazy river. There are not a lot of lockers so I chose to leave my phone and other valuables up in our room since our beachbag and towels just sat out either on a chair or in a corner somewhere. The lifeguards were attentive and did a good job of keeping order. I did not witness any lifeguard going on a power trip like I read in some other reviews. They were all pretty young but I saw nothing that alarmed me any day. Waterpark I would give 4 stars by itself! We loved it! Our room was very clean and very updated. It had a small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and ice bucket. There was no extra toilet paper and when I called down to the desk for more, less than 5 minutes later the front desk lady was at our door apologizing profusely. Every staff member I met was extremely friendly and I never witnessed any rudeness from anyone here. All the housekeeping people were again very young but very friendly and helpful especially when we did not know how to get to the waterpark from our room. I would give the room 5 stars by itself! Very clean, comfy, and all amenities I expected. The only improvement I would suggest here is we had no "book" of local restaurants or attractions and we wanted to order pizza one night and changed our minds because we had no direction other than phone apps which I don't always trust. Our room was in a section called Cabana Village (we had the two double bed room) and it was a little bit of a walk to the waterpark. The floors were a little dirty and carpets are older but it is clear this used to be a VERY large conference hotel as there is a HUMONGOUS "banquet room" you walk through that has a lot of tables and seating and even a stage (blocked off now). This room is also where the Arcade is and the 10 years olds had a good time playing in there for about 30-40 minutes even with no money. My 4 year old blew off some energy just running around in the banquet room area so if you kids that just need somewhere to run and play, this is a great area for it. I also did meet the infamous "Doc" on our last day and he is as friendly and helpful as all the reviews said. He is a great man with a great love for people and truly loves his job and wants your stay to be great if he can do anything to help you. Couple things that could use improvement: There is NO WIFI. I tried in our room, the waterpark, the "restaurant" (see next comment), the front desk, and never even found the signal at all. I had a grant application that needed to be emailed by 5pm on our first day and I had to go to Starbucks to email it. Also, it says there is a restaurant however, it is more like a restaurant with snack bar food, an open bar and no wait staff. You could sit in the restaurant area but still had to go to the snack bar to order your food then wait for it. The snack bar had things like hot dogs, pizzas, fries, pretzels, ice cream, drinks. It was all pretty expensive and was mediocre. The staff working the snack bar is again very young but they were friendly. Good news is there is an Applebees right in the parking lot and a Walmart across the street along with many other restaurants in the nearby area. We got some food from Walmart and then walked to Applebees another night. We also walked to the gas station for milk and cookies. :-) Overall, like others have said, you get what you pay for. I bought 2 nights with a Groupon with waterpark passes for 4 included and I was VERY satisfied for what I paid. If you are a neat freak, this is not the place for you. But if you don't have a fortune to spend and you just want to let your kids have some fun, this a great place to go!!! We had a great time and everyone was very friendly and helpful! And we were there over Spring Break when it was very busy!

This place doesn't even deserve one star. We got a "deal" for this place on Groupon and even with the discount I still feel like we were ripped off. For a place that claims it's a resort, we were left highly disappointed. Here are some reasons why: 1 - Arriving at Maui Sands should have been our first warning sign. The outside of the building is less than desirable. It looks like a motel with a big awning at the entrance. 2 - The lobby and decor throughout Maui Sands gave off the "cheap" vibe. Decor looked poorly made. I felt let down before we were even in our room! 3 - Walking to our room was ... interesting. Again, cheap decorations. And then hallway dumped us out into this HUGE open room that was being renovated. We looked around the room and noticed that all around the edge of this huge ballroom were doors to guest rooms! Weird design. Our room was one of these guest rooms. Our evening was HORRIBLE. There were teenagers and tweens roaming the area up until midnight. We kept hearing doors slam shut and kids laughing/talking real loud just outside our door. Kids were even playing football and kickball until after 10pm. Our 3 children (ages 5, 7, and 9) had a real hard time falling asleep and it put a real damper on our trip. Finally after midnight things got quiet. (We called twice to complain and nothing was done) 4 - Our room was another area of disappointment. We had a Cabana room with a "bunk room." Well it more was like someone just threw up some walls and made a large closet, then put 2 narrow sets of wobbly bunk beds in them. No door. And the flat sheets on the bunks were just folded in half and placed on top of the bed ... not tucked in. Just laid out. ** The workmanship of some of the work in the room was shoddy - there was a gap between the door and wall and we could see out into the big great room outside our room! The outlet at the bathroom sink pulled OUT OF THE WALL when my husband tried to unplug something. There was no toilet paper holder in the bathroom. The light fixture at the vanity still had the tag on it from when it was purchased! ** The decor in the room was cheap and the furniture had lots of scuffs and wear marks on it. Furniture was not dusted properly. The walls were paper thin. One neighbor had a baby that cried a few times in the night. There were stains on the carpet. Fingerprints were on the TV and there was even trash still on the floor in the room. 5 - The waterpark was even more disappointing. The photos and description on the Maui Sands website talk it up like it's pretty awesome. What we experienced was COLD water ... our kids had blue lips after about 30 minutes of playing in the pools and slides. We had to keep getting in the hot tub to warm up. Another serious concern of mine was how much rust I noticed on stairs, rails and other structures in the waterpark. I felt like we should have gotten Tetanus shots. There was chipping paint on floors, and some places were really slippery because pooled water was growing algae! The Maui Sands website advice guests to bring their own towels because there weren't enough provided on site ... what?! Resorts are supposed to make sure they have enough of those things for their guests. 6 - I don't know what they use in their water but my bathing suit was ruined after our stay. It's faded, almost like it was bleached, in spot. It is ruined. And my son's skin has been all irritated ever since we stayed there. 7 - When I complained to the gal at the desk she said there was nothing she could do. Really? This place felt like the Super 8 of Water Park Resorts. Don't waste your money here, folks. It appears this place isn't set on changing (see reviews from 2 years ago). I am surprised this place is still in business.
