I am a Mexican food snob, and this place didn't disappoint. I found it thanks to Yelp while roaming around the Reading area and I'm so glad I stopped in! It was a Saturday and the place was dead, but the staff really made it clear that they were happy to have me there and make my dining experience positive. The restaurant is small (maybe 8 tables) but very clean, modern looking and adorable. I ordered the marinated pork soft taco platter along with some guacamole and wow! So tasty. The only thing I'd do differently is not get lettuce on the tacos, but that's just me. The rice was meh, but usually it is - however the refried beans were stellar! I'm no expert, but I'd say its very likely the refried beans are made on site and not from a can. They don't make their salsa very spicy, but my server was only to happy to bring me out a little of their tomatillo and habanero hot sauces to try - those will crank up the heat no problem! I'll definitely make sure to pop by the next time I am in Reading.

Working in Evendale, we don't have a lot of options for non fast food in the nearby vicinity. One of my coworkers started 'Margarita Mondays' and I discovered this wonderful Mexican restaurant in the heart of the bridal district. Don't be afraid of the sketchy outside, this place is the real deal. The pork and chicken are excellent. You know it's homemade when they inform you the pork hasn't been made that day. Sad, but it's ok to try something new sometimes. I haven't been to dinner, but bringing your own tequila for margaritas sounds like a great idea to me!

Because we can all agree that "hidden gem" is an overused term on Yelp and in discussing restaurants in general, let's call Margarita's a "concealed semiprecious stone." Margarita's is ensconced in the Reading Bridal District, which is not exactly where you'd expect to find quality "ethnic" food. I heard about it a couple of years back, but based on its location, I assumed that it was another location of the local Margaritas restaurant chain, which sure isn't (or wasn't) very good. But this Margarita's couldn't be more different from those Margaritas (and note the apostrophe): It's a tiny, homey, and colorful restaurant with only a half-dozen or so tables, featuring super-fresh and mostly authentic Mexican specialties. (That means, to the consternation of at least one recent reviewer, you won't find stuff like queso dip here. Although they do have a taco salad.) I like their authentic tacos (called taquitos here, i.e., with cilantro and onion), and the huaraches and tortas are great as well. Given the fresh and scratch-made food, the prices might seem slightly high for the portion sizes (the big tortas are an exception!), given the extreme casualness of Margarita's. But the food's good enough to justify them. The family that runs Margarita's is friendly and helpful, and food has come out fast when we've been there.

I WANT TACOS!!! apparently this place is moving, so said the guy opening the florist shop now in this location. I still want tacos.

Summary: Margarita's has food that tastes fresh, well made, and layered with flavors. While the portion size feels less filling than a typical Mexican restaurant for the money and the foods err-ing on the side of light seasoning, I would still recommend Margarita's to get a fresh taste on the typical selection of Mexican foods. Margaritas is a small restaurant in Reading. The place is very clean, and looks very well kept. There are five tables in the whole store, so not necessarily the best spot for big crowds. There is patio seating, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out where. The menu is written up on two big boards which was a bit of an eye chart and quite frankly, the descriptions weren't all that helpful because of the familiar array of ingredients in an Mexican restaurant. The friendly staff recommended the wet burrito, so I obliged and got it with the red sauce and asada. Like many other restaurants, chips and salsa come with the meal. They serve a thick chip here which I found distinctly unique. The salsa was on the bland side but the seeds in it reveals that it should have had a bit of heat to it. If you enjoy the salsa a lot, you can add $1 for more for your meal, though I wasn't wowed enough to want to take that option. The plating at this restaurant is nice considering the $8 price point for a meal. you get rice in a little mound and with the red sauce, it reminded me like a water color palette. The refried beans had a unique taste. I think the cheese that is included has a stronger taste that I was expecting from refried beans. I also suspect these beans were made fresh on site, as after sitting a little, it became slightly watery, a sign of being kitchen made. The burrito was not very big, but I think it was adequate for lunch. The asada was slided into little strips, which I found to make it feel more like ground meat than asada. The red sauce had a rich color and hinted at a bold paprika flavoring, but really, was again, very light. You can ask the staff for hot sauce, which they have a selection of 3, but I think the base dish could've used more seasoning. Despite all my qualms, I still think this place is a nice take on Mexican food. It surprisingly makes it feel less about being stuffed with quantity, but rather more about the subtle techniques gone into putting the dish together. I can see myself coming back to get a refresher on Mexican food, but unfortunately, the flavor needs a bit of work for it to challenge the restaurant on Red Banks Rd for best Mexican in my book.

It's a bunch of hipsters who like burritos. The food is ok, but I came here hoping for queso dip and chips. It's all I wanted since I'm pressed for time. I only have 20 minutes for lunch, and I'm not terribly hungry. The girl at the register is a dear, but it's easy to throw her off her game if you ask for anything beyond her realm of understanding. Who knows, maybe she's just new. I asked if I could have a side of queso dip. They don't have any and that's ok. But the girl's confusion...She couldn't understand that nachos and queso dip are 2 separate things. While they are essentially the exact same thing, yes, I wasn't scouting for a stack of nachos. It's also a matter of price. The regular nachos are $5.50. Queso dip is usually around $2, and I get free chips and salsa. So it's the exact same thing served in different styles, yet one is more expensive than the other. What can I say, I'm trying to stay on a budget! We all do this! Anyway I felt like a pain in the ass, so I went ahead with the nachos. About 10 minutes later, a guy brings chips and salsa to me. Now I'm annoyed. I talked to him about my transaction, and sure enough he was happy to refund my meal for a simple bowl of cheese. Meanwhile the girl at the register is dumbfounded that this is all I want. Staff is kind. Atmosphere is basic but clean. Clientele look hip and upper crust. Cheese is a basic nacho dip. Chips are good. That's about it lol

Oh my this place was amazing. Best Mexican in Cincinnati, by far. I had the mole and verde enchilada lunch special $8.75. The sauces were wonderful. Best mole I've had. Ever. It's a tiny place. They do serve chips and salsa. I thought the chips we a bit thick and too crunchy. I like the thin ones, but the salsa was good. Here's the crazy part. I never complain about portion size, but I left hungry... The price- 8.75 (not cheap for lunch) I should be stuffed. And bc the food was so good was wishing I was. So if you're a big hungry dude, don't order the tiny enchiladas. Hoping they fix that! Otherwise, I would give 5 stars.

The food was fast, affordable and very reasonably priced. Tortillas are homemade, the mole was some of the best I've had & the service is very friendly. Highly recommended!

When my friend, Larry, who is one of the best cooks I know and has an encyclopedic knowledge of food (growing it, cooking it, and eating it) told us about this place, I knew we had to try it. We've been there twice now and it's filling a void left when Dinastia Latina closed up a couple years ago. Margaritas is a true hole in the wall, nestled among the bridal shops in Reading. It's very unassuming from the casual counter-style service to the laid back owner's personality. Their menu selection is surprisingly extensive for such a small operation. They have everything from authentic tacos to tortas and even chilaquiles which is an item I don't see around these parts very often. The chorizo torta I had last night was excellent (and enormous). It was prepared exactly the way the good ones are, with refried beans on one side of the bun, mayo on the other, dressed with fresh minced onion, lots of cilantro, and avocado. Larry really likes their enchiladas and chile rellenos and my husband and I have both had an assortment of tacos which are very good and authentic. We have yet to take advantage of their namesake, homemade margarita mixes made with fresh lime juice or strawberries. But the owner insisted that next time we come, we must bring our tequila and they will take care of the rest. They also told us about the new outdoor patio they will be opening at the end of April -- just in time for Cinco de Mayo.

I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants in a number of states, including California and New Mexico, but I have to say that Margarita's Mexican Food is the best. They make all of their own food from scratch, including the Mole sauce and on Fridays and Saturdays, they make their own Mexican fruit drinks. There isn't any alcohol, but with Jarritos as a staple, who really needs it? There is a small patio in the back that is well shaded with umbrellas and honeysuckle vines. Wonderful spot to relax and have a fantastic meal. I have a new favorite restaurant in the Cincinnati area.

This is the best Mexican food you can get around Cincinnati. The Tortas (Mexican Sandwiches) are great, and they have fresh Tamales on Friday and Saturday. They make their own Horchata and Aqua Fresca (Watermelon, Tamarind, Strawberry, Lime, Cantaloupe), they are amazing. This place is really affordable and everything on the menu is made to order and fresh. If you want real Mexican food, you need to come here.

Margarita's is quality authentic mexican! Like others have said, the place is small with only three or four tables, but the food is fantastic, the place is very clean, and the service is great. Their tortas(mexican sandwich) are great and something you don't see at other restaurants. When we asked for hot sauce it was exactly what I like, house made and very hot. We did BYOB but next time I will bring Tequila as they advertise making scratch margarita's with your liquor.

This is a small place that some may have to travel a bit for but it is worth the trip. The food is amazing and the service is excellent too. They also have breakfast, get the chilaquiles!

As usual, I was craving Mexican food, and my husband found this place on his phone. We drove down a cute little 'Main street' area and parked in a lot around the corner. The interior is small and simple. It was Friday night, and I was ready for some margaritas...how can you go wrong with a place called Margarita's Mexican Food, am I right? Well, how about if it's bring your OWN tequila? Yeah, bummer. We didn't know about this little caveat in advance, so no margaritas at Margarita's. :-P The menu is posted on two big boards on the wall. I wish there was a more detailed menu so we could have looked over everything more carefully. There were lots of menu items I wasn't sure of, but I didn't want to ask a ton of questions. There are only 5 tables inside for dining, and for some reason, an employee was literally crawling around on the floor and scrubbing them one at a time. I would think there was a better time to do that then when you have a handful of customers who are trying to sit down and eat. OK, so despite that initial disappointment, I would have to agree that the food here is remarkable. There were complimentary chips and salsa, and the chips were thick and hearty. The salsa was very fresh-tasting, but a little too spicy for me, so I didn't eat too much of it. I tried the Chilaquiles..I had no idea what this dish actually was, but I just confirmed there was no meat in it and embraced trying something new. The husband had Green Enchiladas, and he even commented that they have the "good" Mexican cheese that he always complains that most Mexican places lack. The food just tastes really fresh and seems to be good quality. Everything had a bit of spice to it, but overall we enjoyed our meals. While I personally prefer to go to a Mexican place that offers more convenient margaritas, I would definitely consider returning here for some fresh and good quality food!

Just tried this place for the first time tonight. I carried out the chicken enchiladas and three of the taquitos (one grilled chicken, one carnitas, and one asada). The taquitos were my favorite-- the carnitas was incredibly flavorful with garlic and other spices, and the chicken and asada were delicious too! I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. The owner came out to talk to me when I picked up my order and was very pleasant and friendly, thanking me for coming in, and welcoming me as a first time customer. The food was all very fresh and flavorful. I would've never guessed this place was so good from its outward appearance... just a tiny little place on Benson with a couple tables... but it is DEFINITELY worth a try! The prices were reasonable and I'm looking forward to trying something new the next time!

I love Margaritas! The food is great but the prices are fair. They have lots of meats but I usually get pastor. The taco salad is yummy and the tortas are tasty too! The staff is friendly and they will soon have a patio out back. They make margaritas from scratch but you have to bring your own tequila. Their lunch specials include a drink which is nice and they have a large selection of Mexican bottled drinks as well as homemade drinks. The dining area is cozy but I would not recommend bringing large groups. This is authentic Mexican so don't ask for "taco meat" or you will look dumb. BYOB

There are not a lot of restaurants in or near the Reading Bridal District, and I had always avoided this place for some reason until recently. Two of my friends stopped into the unassuming store front recently for dinner, and ended up being genuinely surprised. Good food (and an expansive menu) at a reasonable price, excellent service, and a patio out back (you would have no idea it was there unless they told you... so I'm telling you). The owner seems to really enjoy running this business, and he came out to the patio a couple of times to check on us. We got to talking to him and he informed us that they always have margarita mix available (made in-house, not from a bottle), and that you can BYOT (bring your own tequila) to mix into their margarita mix. He then proceeded to go inside and bring us out samples of the margarita mix in little cups, salt and all! It was very nice of him, and the mix was delicious. I will definitely stop back in to Margarita's the next time I'm in the Reading area.

Taquitos al pastor were perfect! salsas and sauces are fresh and delicious (we tried four different ones :)) Large selection of non-alco beverages including jarritos, fanta, squirt, mex-pep and mex-coke in addition to usual american faves. Clean, small and cozy dining room. Service was exceptional!! Be back super soon

This place was ok and I'd try it again, but I'm thinking the rating is over inflated. My entree was very good, but the guacamole was the runny dip type and had no chunk or flavor to it. For my entree I had soft corn tortillas willed with steak, chorizo, and ham. The beans were very bland and the rice was decent.

This is our Favorite Mexican place right now. Consistently delicious. Very authentic. The salsa is addicting. I do wish there was a hand held menu. Lots of items to choose from. Walking back and forth to view the 2 menus, I forget what I saw on the other one! Definite win, you won't be disappointed but the quality and taste of the food. This brother & sister team rocks it!

Serving up some of the best tasting margaritas in town (so be sure to byob). Food fresh and authentic and very delicious. Among many very repeatable Mexican restaurants in Cincinnati, Margaritas food is a great surprise. The counter style service is low frills so don't expect too much in ambiance but the patio makes for nice outdoor place for some casual fare. Had some nice conversations with Roberto. Pleasant experience and makes you feel it's worth supporting an independent local spot.

This is one of my favorite places for handmade food and personal service. Everything is made to order, and sometimes there are bonus specials. Ambiance is no frills and good music. We started with Mexican nachos and of course the fresh fried chips and salsa that's so good you wish it were agua fresca. We got enchiladas festival- one of each, four total. It's beautiful and perfect when you can't decide which one to get. Next was the sope, a handmade masa (I think) tortilla, served open filled with meat, lettuce, cheese, sour cream. Next was my chile relleno, poblano stuffed with queso blanco and fried beautifully. Perfect. Add a homemade margarita pitcher made with booze we brought, and we have another meal and experience to remember.

Margaritas! Mexican! Nice service, great chips and salsa! I had the mole enchilada which was pretty good, if you like mole. I usually prefer mine a little sweeter but still was good. Nice ambience for a lunch or early dinner with a friend. I'd eat here again.

This is the best place in Cincinnati for Mexican food period. Was just there last night for dinner. What I found that had been recently added was Tamales (and they are not on the menu yet and are available only on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays.) One can tell that these were made on site like all of their dishes and are available in pork and chicken We brought along our own Tequila and had some incredible Margaritas. Looking forward to our next trip with some friends where we can try out the patio they just completed around back

Great Yelp Reference. My son and I tried this spot today. I had the asada, al pastor, and machacha tacos And loved the flavor of all three. My non adventurous eater had the chicken quesadillas and pronounced the best ever. Counter service was friendly and efficient.

I was looking for a new Mexican place to try out with my friends. We wanted something new and different and most importantly authentic. Margaritas did not disappoint. I ordered the enchilada Fiesta with half steak half chicken and a side of rice and it was incredible. To start out our meal we got chips and salsa and it was literally the best I'd ever had you could taste the cilantro and the freshness with a little bit of a kick at the end. And the enchiladas. Yummy. I got four different sauces and they were all delicious my favorite was the salsas verde, the rice was delicious and for dessert we got strawberries and sweet cream it was so good I almost felt guilty for eating it. The atmosphere of this place is incredible. We opted to sit on the patio which is a beautiful little paradise hidden from the world. The owner was very kind. Stopping multiple times to talk with us and make sure we were doing okay. The prices are reasonable the food is incredible and the atmosphere is to die for. We will absolutely be going back. And bringing more friends.

My wife and I were craving an authentic Mexican restaurant in cinci and we were so glad to stumble upon this place... To say the food was delicious would be an under statement. On top of that the staff was extremely kind. If you find yourself in the Cincinnati area you must visit this hidden gem.

After all the amazing reviews about this place I was excited to try it. I got a mole burrito and the wife got nachos. The nachos were pretty bland. They use velvetta/stadium nacho cheese which is a huge turn off for me. The mole burrito was giant (makes a chipotle burrito seem small) and it was the highlight of the meal. It wasn't great, but not bad an worth the price. The best part about the place was the service. Extremely top notch and very helpful with the menu. That said the food just didn't live up to the hype for me.

I love this place! My husband and I get take-out every few weeks from here. Every time the food and the service are fantastic. The food: We've had several different tacos, taquitos, burritos, enchiladas, mole dishes and more and everything is SO delicious! The cheese enchiladas with their green sauce is especially good. My husband loves the wet burritos with their red sauce. Don't miss their homemade hot sauces. The habanero one is so good I always ask for extra so I can enjoy it for a few more days at home. The service: Although you can dine in (there are four small tables), this is really a take-out place. Whether we call ahead or stop in and place an order, we have always had quick, friendly service. The one time we dined in was the same. The guy behind the counter is the server, bus boy, and occasional kitchen help. But because this place is so small, he can't help but be attentive and helpful when ever you need something. They really aim to please. *FYI: being your own beer... And weekends bring your own tequila! They make three of their own homemade margarita mixes.

Came in for lunch on a weekday. Margarita's is a small restaurant that has street parking. The parking is free has long as it less than an hour. Although we went during prime lunch time, we had no problem finding a spot. With the size of the place, it seemed like the did mostly carryout orders, but they did have some seating available. We ordered up front and then sat down at a table. They brought out chips and salsa for us. The chips tasted somewhat like they were from a store, but I don't want to assume. The salsa was also only alright. I got the cuban torta. It had ham, chorizo, and pork loin. The ham and chorizo didn't really do much for me, but the pork loin...Wow. I don't know what they did but it was one of the best pieces of pork I've had. I plan on coming back just to have the pork loin again. Margarita's has a lot of options for your mexican food wants. The lunch specials were around $7, so not too bad for a lunch option. Give it a try.

This is a clean, nice looking tiny restaurant and carry out. My SO and I had a late lunch there Saturday. It was instantly obvious we were in for a treat, the chips were thick and corn chip tasting, the salsa thin and spicy. Fajitas and taco salad tasted like they came out of a talented mama's kitchen, the tamale was unusual for me, a falling apart casing made of something other than masa. It was still good and arrived tightly bundled in corn husks, tied with a knotted strand. The owner is friendly, the cook is fantastic and we'll be eating here again.

Our favorite place in Cincinnati for authentic tacos (love the pastor, and they're generous with the cilantro) and a fantastic mole enchilada (why is a good mole so hard to find?). Big portions, friendly service, GREAT prices. BYOB. You have to try their house-made aguas frescas too: possibly my favorite thing on the menu. Tried the torta (we got the Cuban style) today for the first time; really tasty, and so big that we split one and still have enough left over for dinner. Service is always with a smile thanks to Roberto; we look forward to seeing him every time. We feel really lucky to have this place nearby!

While the owner was very friendly and the food cheap; I was not a big fan of their taco meat quality.( YIKES!) I may go back once i've exhausted all other options to see if it gets better over time, but I will not be rushing back anytime soon! : / whomp whomp..

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
